Important lessons from life drawing

I was thinking about what life drawing can teach me and if I need it and why. Actually those are valid questions to ask. We shouldn’t just do thing because someone says so. We should be able to understand how things we do affects us and how it will be useful for our work. We should know If we can improve and how from the experience. If you want life drawing to help you develop your skills you need to identify your problems firsts. But the usual problems of many artists are the fear of drawing, fear of failing, putting too much pressure on making the perfect picture. In the end artists don’t even start drawing and have problems with coming up with ideas from imagination.I found a perfect solution in life drawing and I want to share why I think so and how it helps me personally.

  1. The most important reason is overcoming the fear of drawing. It helps me with starting and not putting too much thought into drawing. It puts me in the moment and forcing me to stop hesitating. I need to stop being shy about putting lines on paper, especially when the subject are people. It takes me out of my comfort zone that is in front of computer. It’s challenging to go outside and draw in the middle of crowded coffee shop. I will just draw without thinking just to be over with it. The most important would be produce finished piece, not the most perfect image ever. Also I would advice to pick a tool that you can’t erase. Be aware that you can’t undo the lines and be confident about that. My tool of choice are ink and markers.
  2. It will make you work faster. You will need to find shortcuts when you draw because people won’t pose for you 30 mins. Sometimes it will be just 10 sec to get the image so the trick is to see and understand the gesture and then draw it without the model. If you can’t get the result right so quickly you will be forced to look for tricks how to be most efficient with lines. How to use just most essential lines to portray someone or something. You will start noticing what is the most important. I would say this is pretty advanced thing right here. If you will practice that you will be way faster with your drawings and it will help you in your professional career.
  3. It will give you greater understanding of perspective and spatial awareness. I think we all understand that those are basic things in drawing. Putting things right in perspective. identifying horizon line and vanishing points, 2 and 3 point perspective. I would guess it’s one of the hardest things to learn and artists usually try to avoid it. We shouldn’t avoid hard things. How much better the image looks when you add perspective to it.
  4. You will understand objects in space which will help you translate 3D objects to paper. Photo references are already 2D images, your brain doesn’t have to figure out how to translate object into flat piece of paper. You need to do the hard work yourself and figure out how, with just lines, you will get the image that has depth. If you get that then the next step would be that you will be able to look at one object and imagine it from different angles and points of view. If you get that then you will be pretty good at drawing from imagination.

So now when you have all the reasons above what you can do ?  What I would do is I would prepare one sketchbook that I have just for the life drawing sessions and I would put a deadline on it. I would say that I need to fill that sketchbook in 30 days. The challenge here is to try and draw every day to observe how your confidence will change during that time. In the beginning you will struggle of course, but try to overcome the fear. Don’t think too much and push yourself. I promise it will be better and you will gain confidence. You already starting to stimulate your brain into right direction.  Confidence will show in your sketches if you continue to do it for 30 days straight. Line quality will go up. It will help you will all basics. Just think how great it will be to compare first picture to the last one. Perhaps some of you will be in the mood to continue everyday life drawing. I can guarantee that you will end up with better skills than before you started and it will be great remedy for some artist problems.

About Shouto’s mother and her age

I have been thinking that Shouto’s mother looks super-young…

Like, VERY YOUNG. She surely doesn’t look elder then, for instance, Jirou Mika (36, famous musician and a media person = gotta take care of her looks) or Bakugou Mitsuki (38 + glycerine quirk which makes her look much younger than her actual age). Why the hell a woman who gave birth to 4 children over a very short time span, experienced at least 10 years of domestic abuse and then spent another 10 years in a mental institution looks so damn young?

Well, because she MAY BE very damn young.

Let’s calculate?

Shouto is 15. Fuyumi is minimum 23 (graduating from high school at 18, graduating from uni at 23, currently teaching). The other sons may be a bit elder or younger than Fuyumi, let’s give it 24. Let’s add to this the fact that babies aren’t made overnight (well, technically they are, but… stop, I’m talking about pregnancy time here!), so I’d say that Enji and Shouto’s mother are married for 24-25 years, give or take.

Normally you’d be able to get married when you are a proper adult, at the age of 20 — and Enji looked pretty much that age when he came to the conclusion that his power alone won’t suffice to leave All Might behind.

So, if he got married when he was twenty, and now he is 45, my calculations by now seem to be pretty realistic…

Now the things get pretty interesting.

The legal age of marriage in Japan is quite a peculiar thing. Normally you should be 20 to have the right to decide for your own, but men can still get married at the age of 18, and women - at the age of 16 (with the parents’ permission.

Now…

«With his wealth and fame, my father made my mother’s family agree to the marriage».

I’m using the official VIZ translation, just for the sake of accuracy.

So Shouto’s mother could be 16 when she was forced into this marriage. In any case, she wasn’t of the full legal age, as otherwise there wouldn’t be a point of pressing on her family, but rather on her personally. I double-highlight this fact. Triple-highlight it. In the current BnHA society it is perfectly acceptable for a woman to make the first step (such as Bakugou Mitsuki), it is perfectly normal and even quite common for a man to adopt his wife’s surname (such as Jirou Kyoutoku). Women do have many rights and freedoms, they are free to make their own choice and the society will not howl about any sort of sexist nonsenses. It clearly shouldn’t be a problem to marry someone without the parental approval, especially if you are financially capable of supporting your newly-created family without the financial help of the parents. The rules, traditions and moral limitations are pretty washed away.

The only situation in which to have the parents’ permission would be necessary is if your partner is underage. Which, I’m repeating my opinion again, is the case of Shouto’s mother.

Let me just emphasise that I’m not trying here to yell and claim that Enji is a pedophile or something. No, it surely is not the case, and 16yo girl may or may not have the physique of a child. And Enji surely would be looking for a fertile partner, so we are NOT dealing with any of this sort of perversion, so let’s not dwell on it any further. I’m simply pointing out that Shouto’s mother could be literally the youngest of what is legally possible to imagine in this situation.

Considering the fact that Enji needed an heir, I wouldn’t expect there a honeymoon or any chit-chats about «how are we gonna call our firstborn», or «isn’t it a bit too early to think about having children». More like «gonna make one child, and another, and another, just in case the first two end up being a failure». By the age of nineteen she has already given birth to three children. Don’t even get me started on the topic of marital rape.

Three to four years after (let’s say that at this point Shouto’s mother is nineteen to twenty) the eldest child ends up being a failure, manifesting only one quirk, not a combination. A year later the second child follows the same path. A year later… well, yeah, all three are failures. So, there goes another try.

Also, we don’t know if all the attempts were successful, as there surely is some weird thing with the blood types in Todoroki family… anyhow, she gives birth to Shouto at the age of twenty-twenty one, more or less. So when we see her for the first time - she is 25. And ten years later - 35. Which is pretty much the age she looks, considering that «ten years in a mental institution» doesn’t sound like some sort of SPA-resort.

Sorry for the bad quality of the photo. It’s the most recent (in terms of the in-universe chronology) picture of Shouto’s mother, during one of Shouto’s regular visits (from the light novels). She also looks much better than when Shouto came to see her for the first time in ten years, doesn’t she?

So… If there are any thoughts on this topic, I’ll be more than happy to discuss)

anonymous asked:

Hi!! I was wondering if you had any advice for a newbie studyblr / bullet journalist ?

Hello there, lovely anon!! ♥ I actually joined the studyblr community pretty recently (just this month!) so I hope I can answer your question well /// !! Since I’m pretty new, there’s still quite a bit I have yet to learn myself!

➸ advice for a new studyblr

Don’t be afraid to just start.

  • Honestly! There’s no need to feel insecure about your posts, spreads, handwriting, picture quality, stationary - everyone in the studyblr community is so sweet and positive and helpful I begin to feel spoiled. I hope you do to!
  • Don’t feel self conscious about anything. You’re beautiful, wonderful, and perfect just the way you are. There is no better you than you!
  • Stop comparing your posts and blog to other people’s. There’s a lot for you to learn, and it won’t all come immediately. Notes, followers - it takes time.

Reach out to other studyblrs!!

  • Say hi, send asks, make friends! Make comments on other’s posts, send compliments or help where you can. Just being active in the community can help you get attention but also give you a wonderful time. A studyblr is to help you grow, and this is a great way to keep you motivated in doing so.
  • Along the same line, try to find ways to interact with your followers!

Tags, Tags, Tags!

  • A lot of studyblrs will track a tag and will often reblog your content if you tag your original posts with it! You can find out what tag to put by checking out a studyblr’s page (for example, I track #studyfeather). You can make a list for yourself if that helps! (: But try not to be too overwhelming or overuse it. Maybe switch up which tracked tags you use from post to post.
  • Make a tag for you to track! It would make sense that if you’re using tracked tags to make one for yourself to spread the love.
  • Have a tag that is specific to your original content (mine is #featherpost)!!! It will make it nice and easy for those who come across your blog to find what you’re posting about. Having original content helps others have more interest in your blog!
  • A lot of what you are reblogging can serve as a resource for yourself. I like to reblog posts that inspire me, or have spreads I might try, masterposts, etc. If its important for you to find what you’re reblogging for later, make a tag system for yourself. For example, heres @ / studypetals’ tags page or @ / studyquill’s navigation page if you need any ideas. This is a great idea if other people begin using your blog as a resource as well.

Take advantage of all the information you see.

  • There are so many posts that address procrastination, time management, stress, note taking, school - anything at all - that is made available to you. It’s one thing to see the information, but it’s another to make use of it. (And don’t be afraid to share your knowledge either!) You can even make posts about trying out different advice if that helps motivate you to try something out.

Make an introductory post!

  • Help others get to know you better by putting together an introductory post! It’s never too late to make one, so don’t worry about making one if your blog has been up for a bit.
  • From what I’ve discovered, introductory posts tend to have the following information (not every one has ALL of this, it’s up to you what you’d like to add): name, age, school year, why you started a studyblr, your classes, some of your favorite studyblrs, other blogs you have (and other sites you’re on), any anything else you’d like to say/add.
  • If you use tracked tags or tag studyblrs you love, it can help get your blog noticed! (:

Post original content!

  • I touched on this earlier, but this is so important. One of the best ways for your studyblr to succeed is posting your own work and sharing it to the community. You never know how many people will love it, be inspired by it, follow you from it, or contact you because of it.
  • Be fairly consistent in posting original content. I try to post at least once a week even though I’m pretty busy. It helps motivate me to keep my bujo and studyblr going! You can try out the 100 days of productivity or some studyblrs put together monthly study challenges you can keep up with. As an example, here’s a May Study Challenge I might try out!
  • In posting original content, make sure you link information you’re referencing to help others that much more!

Queue your posts!!

  • A great way to keep your blog active is to queue your posts. I have my posts queued at 10 each day and try to keep at least 20 posts in my queue at all times, in case a couple of busy days keep me from adding more. Some people unfollow inactive blogs - and this can be a way to prevent it.
  • The only thing I don’t queue are original posts and asks, but it’s up to you if you decide to use the queue system or not!

➸ advice for a new bullet journalist

Real quick!! I would advise taking a look at the bullet journal’s official website to help understand the basics of bullet journaling.

  • It’s designed to be quick and customizable way for you to keep information and tasks organized. A great way to make use of this (that I’ve found) is to make a key for each of your logs. You can see my key here. You can also search tumblr for bujo keys to see what others have come up with. If you do want to make a key, make it so that it works for you!  It can be as simple or detailed as you want, with or without signifiers, etc. If you don’t like this system, that’s just fine!

Discover different journal options and where to find them.

  • There is no set journal to use, however there are popular choices among the studyblr community: Moleskine, Leuchtturm1917, and Muji journals - but it is NOT limited to these. Working with a regular notebook works just fine as well!
  • It’s one thing to find and purchase something online - but I like being able to find what I’m looking for in person. It saves shipping + handling costs, and I get to it immediately. And, sometimes, they can be cheaper too! I found my moleskine journal I’ve been using at Barnes and Noble, and have also seen Leuchtturm1917 journals at my school’s book store. (The temptation is real every time I walk past OTL)

Your bullet journal is for you, so let’s make it that way.

  • A big part of having a studyblr is to help yourself in becoming more productive in learning and improving a lifestyle (or this may just be how I see it). So! There is no set format for you to use a bullet journal. It’s up to you to figure out what works best for you.
  • You can take inspiration from other people’s post to help experiment with different spreads and layouts. (Be sure to credit/tag if you do! Just to be safe.)
  • You can find out different things that you can add to your bujo! Habit trackers, daily/weekly/monthly/yearly spreads, lists of things to keep track of (books to read, tv shows and episodes to watch, shopping/wish lists, bucket list, etc), anything you’re interested in. Depending on your interests and areas you wan’t to use a bujo to help you with, this can vary. If you want, you can test out different ideas to see if you like it or not. It will take time to find what you like, so don’t stress about it in the beginning. You’re just starting, after all!
  • There is always something for you to do, it’s just a matter of finding out what that is. If you need any help of finding something to do, feel free to message me! (As long as you don’t mind me asking a bunch of questions haha.)

Don’t be afraid to use pencil first when making your spreads.

  • Me being me, trusted myself to use pen right off the bat. Boy, do I regret that XD It got to the point where I purchased an erasable pen but I’m finding nothing can beat pencil before pen. But before you erase the pencil - make sure the pen has dried. I can’t stress this enough. I’ve gotten impatient multiple times and go ahead to erase, and instantly wished I hadn’t. You can try to find pens that prevent this from happening, but waiting is the best alternative. Something you can do is make a spread at night, and wait to erase when you wake up in the morning. You can keep your bujo open to the page you worked on for it to dry better.

You don’t need any fancy or expensive stationary.

  • Seeing the pastel highlighters, wide variety of pens and miscellaneous tools it’s easy to think you need to have it all but … you don’t have to have any of it. Especially if you are low on funds, don’t worry about getting anything new. Just work with what you have! I have been using pens I’ve owned for years and have hardly touched to see what I can do with them and am pleasantly surprised! I have a bunch of supplies that I have gotten for school that haven’t been used that I plan on finally putting to use.
  • Your basic school supplies with notebooks, highlighters, pens and pencils, post it notes, can take you as far as you wish!

Having a difficult time coming up with a spread? Here’s some ideas!

  • Try out different hand written fonts. This can include headers/titles and subheaders/subtitles. Try headers, banners, and dividers too! Here’s some different ideas: x | x | x | x
  • Give your spread a theme. Disney, movie, music, history, art, cartoon shows, books - anything at all! This can help with finding art to fill in blank spaces to give your spread some more interest. Here’s a post with a bunch of ideas you could use.
  • Colors! Try out different color combinations! Being an art student, I’m overly conscious of colors. They can help set a mood, evoke certain emotion, some colors work best with others (be smart when using complimentary colors), etc. Here’s a site that covers basic color theory. But … this is me being nerdy. This can take quite a bit of thought - but you honestly don’t have to (: !! It’s best if you stick to one or two colors within a page not to overwhelm what others are seeing, especially if you’re wanting to keep things minimal. If you want me to go deeper into this, and talk more about contrast and whatnot … I can make a separate post as not to clutter this one ♥
  • Make goals for yourself! This can be included in a habit tracker, but doesn’t need to be. They can be as small as going on a 20 minute walk each day during this week, being sure to stay hydrated, doing something with a family member or friend, completing or starting a big project or assignment, etc.
  • Find some quotes and add them! Here’s some quote masterposts I’ve come across: x | x | x | x

When taking pictures, be conscious of lighting.

  • The best kind of lighting is natural lighting. Taking pictures outside (or inside) during the day will help your image quality! I know before I said picture quality doesn’t matter much, but this can be a simple and easy way to help improve your posts.
  • If natural lighting isn’t helping you the way you want, you can take a look at different apps with photo editing capabilities or filters. I have a horrible app finding ability, and just use Photoshop (you can get PS CS2 for free here) or Clip Studio Paint to edit my photos. My favorite tool to use is the tone curve. However you can see this post to look at other options, like apps (it also links to other posts you can look at)!

Have a good time!

  • Honestly, I feel this is what it boils down to. As long as you are enjoying what you’re doing and continue to have a passion for studyblr related content, you’ll succeed. Don’t stress about it and take one post at a time.

I’ll start putting together a post of how I started my studyblr in case that may help as well! Thank you for asking, anon! Hopefully this helps, and that I was able to cover everything! T o T Sorry I kinda went on a bit of a tangent in some areas.

anonymous asked:

It's really helpful that you made a trait tutorial but your theme makes it really hard to read for me. Do you think you'd mind making a copy of it without the read more? So I can reblog it to mine and be able to read it better?

Hello! Yes, yes, I agree my theme makes this post, and every other post for that matter, pretty hard to read. I plan on changing it very soon! If you are having problems seeing the images, I don’t know what to say. Hopefully this will make them show up a bit bigger, but since this isn’t a normal post their is no way for you to enlarge them. Maybe try zooming in and hopefully the image won’t be too blurred out that you can’t see. :(

I hope this was helpful, and if you have any more questions, just ask!!

Trait Tutorial

Make sure you are using the latest mod constructor by @zerbu. You can download that Here.

After downloading

I suggest making a folder to put the downloaded WinRAR ZIP file into. Once you unzip the file, look for the Constructor2 Application.

Making the Trait

Open the application. Enter your creator name and your mod name. When you finish, press “Create Mod”.

On the top bar, click “Create Resource”. Select, “Buff/Trait” and click “!!Create Trait”. Then enter a resource name and press “Create Resource”.

Once the new resource comes up it should look like this. Make sure the “Create Trait” box is checked. Set the “Trait Simdata” to personality (only if you are making a personality trait, but for now I’m sure that is what you want to do). Add a “Trait Name”, “Trait Icon”, and “Trait Description”. Change the “Trait Category” to whatever of the four options you would like, based on what it does (Emotional, Hobbies, Lifestyle, or Social).

Adding Whims

If you would like to have whims that correlate to your trait, follow the steps below.

Staying on the “Trait” tab, navigate to the “Whims” subcategory. Next to “Trait Whims”, click on the magnifying glass. A new box will pop up. On the left there will be categories where you can find pre-existing whims. On the right, you can select as many whims as you would like (and you can always add more). These whims will randomly appear ever once-in-a-while. You can click the “Select” button when you have all the whims you would like. In the “Reason” category type, “(From Trait Name)”.

Adding Special Effects

If you would like to add special effect to your trait, follow the steps below.

Staying on the “Trait” tab, navigate to the “Special” subcategory. You can check any of the four options (Immortal, never aging, etc.) and you can also add an effect that changes the way your sims will talk if they have this trait. There are also four options for this (Normal, alien, reaper, and ghost).

Changing how a sim’s needs will increase or decrease.

If you would like to change how quickly a sim’s need will decays or how quickly they will increase when using your trait, follow the steps below.

Move to the “Buff” tab and navigate to the “Needs” subcategory. The second set of subcategories are below the “Needs” tab. You can select “Need Decay Rates” or “Need Increase Rates”. “Need Decay Rates” will affect how quickly, or slowly, a sim’s needs will decay. “Need Increase Rates” will affect how quickly, or slowly, a sim’s needs will increase. For example, under “Need Decay Rates”, a trait about never being bored could have the “Fun” slider almost at zero, that way their fun would go down much slower than other sims’.

Note: Under the “careers” subacategory, it is very similar to this and the examples below. You can change the increase and decrease rates for each type of career.

Changing how a sim’s skills will be effected.

If you would like to change how quickly, or slowly, a sim gains a skill, follow the steps below.

Move to the “Buff” tab and navigate to the “Skills” subcategory. The second set of subcategories are below the “Skills” tab. You can select “Skill Gain” or “Effective Skill”. Under the “Skill Gain” tab you can change how quickly, or slowly, a sim gains a new skill. Under the “Effective Skill” tab you can change the effect of actions related to a skill. For example, increasing the cooking effective skill level will result in better quality food. Under each of these tabs there is a third set of seven subcategories that have every type of skill in the sims 4. Change the slider to effect the “Skill Gain” or “Effective Skill”.

Note: Under the “careers” subacategory, it is very similar to this and the examples above. You can change the increase and decrease rates for each type of career.

Changing how a sim acts by themselves

If you would like to change how a sims acts autonomously, follow the steps below.

Move to the “Buff” tab and navigate to the “Autonomy” subcategory. The second set of subcategories are below the “Autonomy” tab.

Commodities (Pictured above)

This option allows you use autonomy settings from other traits and buffs. For example, if you use the Active trait, sims will autonomously preform actions that an Active sim would normally do, such as doing push-ups or working out. Next to the “Commodities” box click on the magnifying glass. A new box will pop up. On the left there will be three categories for you to choose from (”Traits”, “Emotions”, and “Needs”). On the right you can select the pieces you want your trait to showcase. Once you have done this you can press the “Select” button.

Needs

“You can increase the likelihood a Sim will follow the autonomy of a need using this option. For example, setting the hunger slider to a higher value should cause Sims to autonomously eat more.” - (Mod Constructor 2 By Zerbu)

To change this, you need to move the slider to the preferred amount.

Trait Commodities

“You can increase the likelihood a Sim will preform interactions related to a particular trait here. If the trait’s commodity is not added in “Commodities”, it will only take effect if the Sim ALSO has that trait, or another custom trait that does add it.” - (Mod Constructor 2 By Zerbu)

To change this, you need to move the slider to the preferred amount.

Emotion Commodities

“You can increase the likelihood a Sim will follow the autonomy of an emotion using the option.” - (Mod Constructor 2 By Zerbu)

To change this, you need to move the slider to the preferred amount.

Changing how Sims will increase or decrease relationships

If you would like to change how a sim’s relationship will be increased or how it will decrease, follow the steps below.

Move to the “Buff” tab and navigate to the “Relationships” subcategory. The second set of subcategories are below the “Relationships” tab. You can select “Relationship Increase” or “Relationship Decrease”. “Relationship Increase” effects how good sims are at making relationships (”Friendly”, “Romantic”, or “Mischief”). “Relationship Decrease” effects how quickly a sims will be disliked if the preform mean interactions. This does not change how quickly a sim will loose their relationships naturally. You can move the slider to your preferred amount.

Using the “Loots”, “Broadcasters”, and “Proximity” tabs for making buffs

These tabs allow you to add buffs that make your sims feel a certain way. For example, when using the Goofball trait, your sims can randomly become playful. Check below for a wonderful tutorial by Zerbu.

How to export traits and put them in your game

Once you have finished making your trait and adding all the parts you want, you will need to export your trait. Navigate to the “Export Package” button in the top left corner. Export the trait to your desired location. Then, move it into the sims 4 mods folder. It should the appear in game. You should always test your mods, in case you find any problems.

I shall only tell you that ’till you bade us Adieu, I hardly knew the value you had taught my heart to set upon you. Indeed, my friend, it was not well done. You know the opinion I entertain of mankind, and how much it is my desire to preserve myself free from particular attachments, and to keep my happiness independent on the caprice of others. You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent. But as you have done it and as we are generally indulgent to those we love, I shall not scruple to pardon the fraud you have committed, on condition that for my sake, if not for your own, you will always continue to merit the partiality, which you have so artfully instilled into me.
I have received your two letters one from Philadelphia the other from Chester. I am pleased with your success, so far, and I hope the favourable omens, that precede your application to the Assembly may have as favourable an issue, provided the situation of affairs should require it which I fear will be the case. But both for your country’s sake and for my own I wish the enemy may be gone from Georgia before you arrive and that you may be obliged to return and share the fortunes of your old friends. In respect to the Commission, which you received from Congress, all the world must think your conduct perfectly right. Indeed your ideas upon this occasion seem not to have their wonted accuracy; and you have had scruples, in a great measure, without foundation. By your appointment as Aide De Camp to the Commander in Chief, you had as much the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, as any officer in the line your receiving a commission as Lieutenant Colonel from the date of that appointment, does not in the least injure or interfere with one of them; unless by virtue of it you are introduced into a particular regiment in violation of the right of succession; which is not the case at present neither is it a necessary consequence. As you were going to command a batalion, it was proper you should have a commission; and if this commission had been dated posterior to your appointment as Aide De Camp, I should have considered it as derogatory to your former rank, to mine, and to that of the whole corps. The only thing I see wrong in the affair is this—Congress by their conduct, both on the former and present occasion, appear to have intended to confer a privilege, an honor, a mark of distinction, a something upon you; which they withold from other Gentlemen in the family. This carries with it an air of preference, which, though we can all truly say, we love your character, and admire your military merit, cannot fail to give some of us uneasy sensations. But in this, my Dear J I wish you to understand me well. The blame, if there is any, falls wholly upon Congress. I repeat it, your conduct has been perfectly right and even laudable; you rejected the offer when you ought to have rejected it; and you accepted it when you ought to have accepted it; and let me add with a degree of overscrupulous delicacy. It was necessary to your project; your project was the public good; and I should have done the same. In hesitating, you have refined upon the refinements of generosity.
There is a total stagnation of news here, political and military. Gates has refused the Indian command Sullivan is come to take it. The former has lately given a fresh proof of his impudence, his folly and his rascality ’Tis no great matter; but a peculiarity in the case prevents my saying what.
I anticipate by sympathy the pleasure you must feel from the sweet converse of your dearer self in the inclosed letters. I hope they may be recent. They were brought out of New York by General Thompson delivered to him there by a Mrs. Moore not long from England, soi-disante parente de Madame votre épouse. She speaks of a daughter of yours, well when she left England, perhaps ⟨– – –⟩.
And Now my Dear as we are upon the subject of wife, I empower and command you to get me one in Carolina. Such a wife as I want will, I know, be difficult to be found, but if you succeed, it will be the stronger proof of your zeal and dexterity. Take her description—She must be young, handsome (I lay most stress upon a good shape) sensible (a little learning will do), well bred (but she must have an aversion to the word ton) chaste and tender (I am an enthusiast in my notions of fidelity and fondness) of some good nature, a great deal of generosity (she must neither love money nor scolding, for I dislike equally a termagent and an œconomist). In politics, I am indifferent what side she may be of; I think I have arguments that will easily convert her to mine. As to religion a moderate stock will satisfy me. She must believe in god and hate a saint. But as to fortune, the larger stock of that the better. You know my temper and circumstances and will therefore pay special attention to this article in the treaty. Though I run no risk of going to Purgatory for my avarice; yet as money is an essential ingredient to happiness in this world—as I have not much of my own and as I am very little calculated to get more either by my address or industry; it must needs be, that my wife, if I get one, bring at least a sufficiency to administer to her own extravagancies. You will be pleased to recollect in your negotiations that I have no invincible antipathy to the maidenly beauties & that I am willing to take the trouble of them upon myself.
If you should not readily meet with a lady that you think answers my description you can only advertise in the public papers and doubt less you will hear of many competitors for most of the qualifications required, who will be glad to become candidates for such a prize as I am. To excite their emulation, it will be necessary for you to give an account of the lover—his size, make, quality of mind and body, achievements, expectations, fortune, &c. In drawing my picture, you will no doubt be civil to your friend; mind you do justice to the length of my nose and don’t forget, that I ⟨– – – – –⟩.
After reviewing what I have written, I am ready to ask myself what could have put it into my head to hazard this Jeu de follie. Do I want a wife? No—I have plagues enough without desiring to add to the number that greatest of all; and if I were silly enough to do it, I should take care how I employ a proxy. Did I mean to show my wit? If I did, I am sure I have missed my aim. Did I only intend to frisk? In this I have succeeded, but I have done more. I have gratified my feelings, by lengthening out the only kind of intercourse now in my power with my friend. Adieu
Yours.
A Hamilton

Just curious-- what makes the 2009 Emma adaptation a work of art?

*cracks knuckles* *pulls out color coded binder* I’m so glad you asked.

I’ve seen a lot of Emma adaptations: Clueless, Emma (1996), Aisha, the other BBC series (the one with Kate Beckinsdale and Mark Strong), Emma Approved, and of course, the 2009 BBC Miniseries. The 2009 version is my favorite, it always has been, and it always will be. Most of that comes down to characterization, but it is also about the way it captures Austen’s story magnificently though language, set design, costuming, and music.

16 TIPS FOR USING WATERCOLOR (THE VANESSA WAY!)

The other day @noradove asked me if I had any advice for painting backgrounds or using watercolor in general.  To be honest, I’m still learning how to paint backgrounds, but I decided to compile a little list of things I’ve learned while using watercolor and gouache.  I hope some of these bullet points might be useful to others!

Like all “rules,” take these with a grain of salt.  These tips work for me – what works for you could be completely different! But check beneath the cut for some lessons I’ve learned!

Yuri on Ice interview translation - Pash! 2016/12 (p16-17)

This is an interview with Chacott’s Yuiko Sagiri that was published on Pash! Dec. 2016 issue. Chacott is a brand that mostly makes dance costumes/clothing/accessories, but they happen to create costumes for figure skating as well. She was in charge to come up with the designs for the original costumes appeared in the anime.

Usually I only post text, without images, and I was wondering what to do with this article, because it’s not as easy to understand without pictures. They have most of them on their blog too, but they’re all in different pages and it would have been a pain to link, therefore in the end I decided to include pictures taken from the magazine. Please understand that the pictures are only for reference and are not meant to be high quality scans (in fact I just took them with my phone and fixed them a little).

Since the post is heavier than usual because of the pictures I tried to use a cut for the first time. Maybe I should do it for long interviews as well…

How to make Irene Adler's beauty look from "A Scandal in Belgravia" - Easy/poor student edition

If it’s something I realised when I started doing cosplay about one year ago, it’s how expensive it can be. As a “poor student”, it can be difficult to find both the time and the money to do the look you want in the quality that you want. Many tutorials today also use many different tools and expensive makeup. Of course the result will most times be better with high quality makeup but I think that you can create quite a good look without professional skills and without super-expensive makeup. Some days ago, I decided to do Irene Adler’s characteristic hairstyle and makeup for the first time and I realised during the process that you can do quite much with quite little resources. So here is my easy and “poor student” friendly tutorial about how to turn yourself into The Woman.

Part (1) - The “Before” picture

So let’s start with the obligatory “before” picture. This is me in all my natural beauty. Or well, not quite. My hair is dyed in a darker colour since 1,5 weeks ago. The colour might be called “Dark Chocolate” but I call it “Sherlock/Evie” dark after the hair colour of my two favourites right now. I should probably add Irene Adler to that description too.

Part (2) - Irene Adler’s characteristic hairstyle

When Sherlock first meets The Woman, she has perfected her beauty look into the smallest detail. That includes her hairstyle which will be the first step in the process of recreating her look.

Step (1) - Tools

What I need to create my Irene Adler-inspired hairstyle is basically a lot of hairpins and a great amount of hairspray. I use a basic spray with strong hold and recommend you to use something like that. It depends on the quality of your hair but my hair is, though not so long, very… VERY thick so I need all the hold I can get.

Step (2) - Hairstyle in the front

Start by parting your hair slightly to the side and grab the front/upper piece of your hair on the short side. Spray! (You can never get too much hairspray).

Form this piece of hair into a slight curl, make a bun out of it and then secure it with hairpins. The loose hair is no problem (it will be included in the French twist later) so don’t try to thug it into the pun or anything. One good advice is to secure the pins with the entry of the pin pointing towards your face. The hold will become stronger and it’s easier to hide the pin in your hair.

Next, take the front/bottom piece of your hair and twist it loosely. Spray and then secure with the pins necessary. Irene has her front/upper piece of hair ending up in a large curl but as I don’t own a curler and that is an exceedingly more difficult move to do by yourself, I do it in this way instead. Of course you can try out that curl yourself!

Irene’s hair is slightly asymmetrical and the other side is not split into the same two parts as the first side. I do a simple version here again and twist the whole side up and end it slightly above my ear. Be careful with twisting it too hard. The aim is to make the hair look more effortless than it really is. Spray again and secure with the pins necessary.

Step (3) - Hairstyle in the back

So, now the front parts are done. It’s now the magic happens when it’s time to secure the back of the hair. I first use plenty of spray in the rest of the hair to make it easy to work with. I then backcomb the hair slightly to give it even better structure. Then take all of the hair from the start of the neck and twist your hair into a French twist. In this particular picture below, I did the twist slightly lower than I would have wanted it to be so keep that in mind. Secure it with all the pins necessary and don’t be afraid to use even more hairspray. If someone else is doing the hairstyle on you, you might need lesser spray but as I do it myself, I need all the help I can get from the spray.

Step (4) - Admire your hairstyle

And voilà! I have now turned my hair into an easy version of Irene Adler’s. When you’re done with the hairstyle, make sure one more time that it’s properly secured with hairpins and spray. Time to move on to the next part!

Part (3) - Irene Adler’s characteristic makeup

One thing that the audience got a good look on in “A Scandal in Belgravia” was Irene’s makeup as she is getting ready for her first meeting with Sherlock (while Sherlock is getting ready for meeting her by provoking John into hitting him to the ground). Without the makeup, it’s not really Irene Adler. The first time I did this look on myself, I realised that my features looked a lot more like hers than I first thought. This makeup is therefore adapted to my face and you might need to use different methods. I use the makeup I have at home and if you have better tools and brands, just use them! This is, as I have said, an easy tutorial for those of you who are “poor geeks” like me. Anyway, let’s take it away!

Step (1) - Tools

I have bought all my makeup in grocery stores. Some of the brands are slightly more expensive but never above 13,00 £. I recommend you to foremost use what you have at home. The only thing I have bought especially for this look is the blue eyeshadow.

Step (2) - Foundation, cover and highlight

Irene has pretty flawless skin so let’s start with a covering foundation. I use my regular one which is liquid and very light with the colour Ivory Rose to cover my whole face. The methods of applying it can differ but I use my fingers. Be sure to apply some more on the upper part of your cheekbones to make them slightly lighter.

Next, I use a bronzing powder to finish the foundation. Apply with a brush and start by the chin. Then apply on your forehead, the sides, under your eyes and the nose. Apply very sparsely on the cheekbones as you want them light for the next step.

Now, Irene has prominent cheekbones and if you don’t have them yourselves, you need to highlight them. I do this in a very simple way, by using the same browsing powder again and with a smaller brush, applies a thicker layer just below my cheekbone. If you are good at highlighting in general, this step won’t be a problem for you. If you are not, like me, just be sure to keep the upper part of the cheekbone light and the bottom part darker. I recommend you to watch a tutorial on highlighting in that case because of my own limited skills.

Step (3) - Eyebrows, eyes and lips

Now we are done with the foundation and it’s time to do the details. First, the brows. I actually just do them the way I always do them and just fill them in. Start a little bit wider and then make them thinner. If you have thicker or thinner eyebrows than me, paint them in the way you see fit. As my eyebrow pen is out, I use a thin eyeshadow brush and fill them with a black eyeshadow. Maybe not the best solution but it works if you have dark hair and nothing else at home. Sometimes, we must use our imagination to save money. Be careful with the black shadow though as it can become very thick looking if you apply too much.

The next step is Irene’s gorgeous eyes. I first use a brown eyeshadow to highlight the eyelid. Take a small brush and apply lightly across the lid. It’s no problem if it’s slightly outside at the end of the eye that points to your ear. Blend with another brush in the way you find fit. This step is just for making the look a little bit more well-rounded.

Now it’s time for the eyeliner. I first apply some black eyeshadow to the bottom of the lid to give it a smoother transition to the mascara later. Apply slightly below the bottom lashes at the corner of your eye too. Be careful though. This black shadow eyeliner shall be just that: a shadow. OBS! In the picture below, I haven’t applied the bottom lashes eyeliner yet.

Now for a characteristic step: the blue eyeliner. I use again an eyeshadow for this step and a thin brush. Paint the lower part of the lid with the eyeshadow until you have a firm, but thin, eyeliner. Apply just slightly to the corner of your eye below the bottom lashes too. This one shall not in any way be as thick as on the eyelids. Just a little splash of colour.

The final step on the eyes is the mascara. I use one with a rubber brush, which I love. If your lashes don’t curl naturally like mine do, use an eyelash bender to achieve that. Next, apply the mascara to your upper lashes and make it cover all the lashes as much as you can. Also apply mascara to the bottom lashes at the corner of the eye but not further in.

The final part of Irene’s makeup is also the truly transforming part of it: her characteristic red lipstick. If you are in a mood, you can try to reshape your lips but I don’t have the tools for that so I just put it on. I’m using the lipstick I had at home which has the colour Cherry Sparkle. Cover your lips with an even layer and of course you can do it way better than I can.

Step (4) - Find the right Irene Adler attitude in the mirror

And with that we’re done with the makeup and now the transformation is almost complete. Time for the final touches!

Part (4) - Irene Adler’s nails and jewelry

Irene has many different accesoaries in her closet, from the Louboutin high heels to the diamond ring on her finger. I have chosen to highlight some of them.

Step (1) - Nails

There are some pieces in The Woman’s beauty look which are more characteristic than others. Important are her red finger nails. I paint mine with a regular red nail polish. These can of course also be done in a much more advanced way. Do it the way you like them! The most important thing is that they are the dark red that we want them to be. I bought my nail polish at the grocery store for about 1,00 £.

Step (2) - Earrings

Other accessories are her earrings and like I said earlier, the ring on her finger. I don’t have such a ring that looks like the one she has but the earrings are easily managed, even on a small budget. I use a pair of stones that I had at home which are something that I bought for about 1,00 £. Take what you like but if you want it in Irene Adler’s style, I recommend no colour but just a regular white/silver stone.

Part (5) - THE FINAL PRODUCT

And by that, we are done and you have your cheap and easy Irene Adler look! As I have said during this whole process, this is my way of doing it and if you have better suggestions yourself on how to mimic Irene’s beauty tricks: use them! It’s just the imagination that sets the limit! Now follows some finished pictures of the look with four different outfits! The pictures and the editing are also perfect for a small budget. I took the pictures myself with my phone and the editing is done with pixlr.com.

Outfit (1) - Sherlock’s coat

So as I don’t own a riding crop but I do own a violin, this is the story: The Woman got a hold of Sherlock’s violin and now… Well, I don’t know where it goes from there.

Outfit (2) - Battle dress

Grey characters are always the most interesting ones, I think.

Outfit (3) - Classy dress

This dress is clearly not looking like the one Irene Adler had but I love it and thought it was in the right style. And the attitude does it!

Outfit (4) - Battersea Power Station outfit

I know Irene had black leather gloves to this outfit but mine was just too thick.

I see lots of weekly/bi-weekly/monthly fic recommendation lists going around, and I think this is absolutely wonderful exposure for writers from their peers and those who may not write, but sure do enjoy reading.

A great thing about the lists I’ve seen is their focus on certain categories of fic - very ideal for readers to sort what they’d like to read; thing is, I haven’t personally seen one that focuses solely on the quality of the writing.

You know - Character dimension. Writing with clever readers in mind. Crazy crisp dialogue. Incredibly tight plotting. Big emotion.

So what’s the scoop on The Nail?

Ashton Fletcher Irwin. Born July 7th, 1994. Hornsby, Australia. 23 years old. 23. Wait, 23!? Oh yeah! No, I didn’t forget. The whole fam remembered I’m sure. Today’s your 23rd birthday. So uh happy womb evicting day! How’s it feel to be an adult? I mean, technically (and legally) you’ve been an adult for the past four-ish years of your life, but let’s be honest, you never acted your age. But! That’s not a bad thing. Who likes serious and stone faced people? I don’t. One of the many things that makes you a great person and a pretty cool dude. And so, thought I’d make a little list of why we think you’re that cool dude 😎 Even the fans who came into the 5SOS fam recently, I’m sure can already feel your love. I know when I first did, around a year ago, I did almost right away. And the part of the 5sosfam that’s been around since the early pink speaker days can probably say they’ve never felt more loved by someone without speaking to them regularly or even never meeting them in person. The point is, no matter when we joined the fam, 2012, 2014, or 2017; or wherever we are, whether it be two blocks down from where you live, or thousands of miles away, we can all feel your love and how you genuinely care for the fans. Thanks for that buddy. And well, we wanna try our hardest to show you our love for you, so we put this together. Love you 💖 Your musical abilities. Jesus Christ, you’re amazing. When watching you perform, either live, or through low quality YouTube videos, the energy in you radiates through wherever you’re playing. Personally, I always listen to the rhythm you have going on in the background of any song because of how gosh darn good it is. Now, you’re known mainly for your drumming, but boy, you can sing (and play guitar and piano and who knows what else you’ve been hiding under your bed). Like, I think we all die a tad bit inside when we hear you sing, whether it be a solo or your vocals. The amount of energy and passion you put into your drums and singing shows how much you enjoy what you do, you don’t just do it ‘cause it’s what people want from you. You do it because you just plain love doing it. You’ve inspired so many people to pick up an instrument and let it take them places. (You’re songwriting is also really damn amazing 😜) We all go through difficult times at some point in our lives. Some almost too often, others once every few months or more, but still difficult enough to almost want to quit. You’ve showed us not to give up, that we’re here for a reason and that we matter. If we feel we aren’t loved, you come in and show us otherwise. Whether it be something you say through a small video or a tweet, or even just your actions. You’re a perfect example of just holding on no matter how hard and how unbearable the emotional or physical pain is, for each and every one of us. You’ve taught us that we can make it through and that it will all get better eventually. And since you’re the one always helping us get through hard times, we want you to know that we’ll always be there for you and we’ll try our hardest to make you get all our love somehow, no matter what. This is is so much shorter than what I wanted it to be, but I procrastinate way too much and couldn’t add as much as I wanted. So, now I’m just gonna make a list of all the other little things we all love about you. I also asked some friends to share some of their favorite pictures of you so… they’re all up there somewhere😁 •Your hair. Ash, your hair is just so curly and looks so soft like wtf. I wouldn’t be surprised if any guy is jealous of the beauty of it 😜Even I’m jealous, and I’m a girl. •Your eyes. Oh my god. The color of them is so bright and just so pretty. They can sometimes seem like a light light brown, other times green and just shbsnsnsk i love them so much. •Your many laughs and giggles. Do I even need to explain why we love your different laughs?? You can literally go from a super high pitched giggle to an evil laugh. Fucking love that about you 😂 •Your sassy side. I was actually surprised when I first saw this side of you. You can burn someone bad, but still do it while being your silly goofy self. (Also, your savage tweets…👌🏽) • Your dimples. I have only one thing to say. Your dimples need names. • Your tattoos. All amazingly beautiful. I honestly sometimes forget you have one in the back of your neck (we don’t get very many shots of your neck 😂) but when I remember, I cry a little. There is so much of you that I haven’t covered here. This list would be extremely long if i tried to list everything. But, the point of this all was just to let you know that we love you tremendously. You’ve changed our lives so much (in the best way) and I can’t begin to say how much I appreciate it. I hope you had an amazing day today surrounded by your loved ones, and that you have many more birthdays to come in your future. Remember that we’re all here for you, and we hope that you always find your way to happiness. Thanks for being a big part of our lives and an even bigger inspiration for many of us. Again, happy birthday, and congrats on another year living on Earth. Can’t wait for your birthday next year 😜 Lots of love, Ana (me) and the 5sosfam ❤️❤️

Sorry to go back to this it just interested me but what's the Dom!Cole thing? Like Lili is a submissive??? They seem pretty even to me?

lol. No need to be sorry. @zumpie is probably better at explaining this than I am but I will do my best (but seriously - if anyone else has something to add - please do!)

Unfortunately, I feel that, due in large part to a poorly written, badly researched, sad excuse for an erotica novel that was published and sub-sequentially turned into films, there has been some misunderstanding what the term Dom means in this context. Also - think of this as a spectrum. There are really hard core people who exist in this lifestyle and then there are people who are in a fully equal relationship and will - on occasion let one partner lead more often than the other. Remember - the power always actually belongs to the Sub - but I digress.

As far as my opinions on Cole (and indeed on Juggie in general - but that likely bleeds from being played by Cole - I doubt it’s in the script) I feel there ought to be a fundamental lesson on what I mean. Like I said, it’s a spectrum.

It’s also important to point out that in a relationship like this - just because someone is more dominating does not mean in ANY WAY that the other person can’t be a strong, self-actualized, independent person (Something that Lili obviously is - she’s badassed and awesome) For example, I don’t think Cole has a ‘room’ in his house where he ties up his girlfriend to have his merry way with her and she’s not wearing a collar and kneeling on the floor when he’s sitting on a chair or anything. (Not to throw personal judgements in there - if they WERE that kind of couple it’s their business and theirs alone.) HOWEVER - to get back to the point in hand, you can be a more dominant person without all those things that you’ve read about or seen in terrible Dakota Johnson movies (and seriously - I allude to that particularly badly written book/film enough but you don’t even want to get me started on my opinions about the inherent abuse and poor grammar and bad research. ICK).

When I say Cole is clearly more Dom - it’s shown in the way he moves his hands (we joke about Sprousehart shoulder touching - but seriously, the boy touches her all the time and has literally no respect for personal space at all) - it’s almost like a reassuring/possession thing. That sounds bad… the possession part - but the MINE that it screams doesn’t have to be predatory or anything - it’s more of a “mine to protect” evolutionary thing. Nevermind that I’m sure Lil could kick someone’s ass if they tried anything she wasn’t happy with. But yeah. It’s not even just a sexual thing - though if anyone is calling anyone Daddy in this relationship it’s Public=Lili!Daddy and Private=Cole!Daddy.

It’s also shown in the expressions on his face (when he sets his chin when he’s about to say something he wants very clearly understood), and little things - like he’s obvious the one who walked Lili around a museum in Mexico or in an abandoned hospital in BC to take pictures. (That’s not to say that he wasn’t absolutely whipped when Lili said she wanted to go to Antelope Valley… and then he made that happen - but the two are not mutually exclusive points).

Another friend described Cole as such: “Dom but whipped as fuck! That’s our little intellectual. ” and I thought it was a freaking apt description.

He’s older (though not by too much) and has had more experience in the world. Wouldn’t YOU take the world traveller when he wants to show you parts of it that he’d know you would enjoy? Why take the rest of your friends when you could be alone together… with his arm at the base of your back? lol. (and that right there is an example of a dommy kind of behaviour that doesn’t include whips and chains. The hand on the base of the back - or on her freaking NECK when he kisses her (even when he’s just filming that - you can’t tell me the script said, “Jughead uses his thumb on her neck as he bites her shoulder” – that was ALL instinct, dude.)

And if we look at how through the course of Riverdale (but Zump actually pointed it out with a clip of 16 year old Cole as Cody too) - the character starts to take on some of those same qualities. The way he leads, corrects, takes charge etc. That may have hit the script for Z&C - but by Riverdale, no way. Regarding Jughead’s behaviour - (and quoting Zump again) “When the’re on Betty’s bed (in the morning, with her mom around, no less), he demands she “c’mere” and Betty immediately leans in to comply—-plus his hand is slipping up her thigh and immense, quiet but not concealed, irritation at Alice’s cockblocking” even though he is a teenager sitting on her daughter’s bed. That look returns in E13 with the knock to the trailer door.

Also - there was the BTS and the deleted scenes shots of Cole draping his legs all over her and her hands resting (very naturally) on his inner thigh. That final Bughead scene at Pop’s where her arms are wrapped around his leg (which is up in the booth) - that’s not accidental and while I believe that one was probably scripted - we know there are lots of mannerisms Jug has that are Cole’s ides (ie. the sitting in the booth like L etc.) “Even as early as episode 7, when Juggie’s sprung from jail, he nods his head for Betty to come over when he’s ready for her” (after talking to his dad) “and she hurries to his side to comfort and attend to him” - or even how she DOESN’T touch him in the hallway in E12 because he’s mad (not at HER so much as the situation - but she knows when to be more submissive… this was likely scripted - but it also speaks to the character). “So not always (because he remains an insecure boy with all sorts of issues), but frequently, someone’s actually been quietly leading things for awhile.” In another ask, we discussed at length how Jughead has control issues - and I believe Cole does too (simply based on the way he was raised and the life he lived) - so making sure everything is right in your world seems pretty important to him. There is a whole camera!duels discourse we could get on as well - but I’m going to leave that aspect for now.

What’s funny is - Cole is actually a HUGE goofball. His laugh is loud. His gestures gregarious. He’s very clearly the life of the party and not afraid to laugh at himself and make others laugh (without resorting to infantile tactics like some of the others) But quite clearly, when he walks into a room and he’s always the first one there - he kinda… absorbs the air? Yeah. That’s the best way I can describe it. Sucking all the air out of the room while still making the people in front and all around him feel like they are the most important people to him right this second.

Does that answer ANY of your question, Grayface? I mean - I’m not a Cole expert, but I observe and yeah. I hope this gives you a little clue into what I’m saying when I referr to Dom!Cole anyway.

Hey, i love your blog so much! By the way, once you said that Hidan needs Kakuzu. But why? I hope this is not too stupid question ><

Ah No, it’s not really a stupid question at all.

It all really comes down to Hidan and Kakuzu’s complex relationship.

Although the two constantly feud over the most mundane things, both have a respect for each other.

Kakuzu seems to disrespect Hidan at every turn, calling him a moron and him to shut up consistently.

But when Kakuzu is alone and fighting Team 10 he does admit that Hidan is not one to be underestimated in skill level. Kakuzu might not respect Hidan at an intelligence level. But he does trust him enough to have a basic combat strategy with him.

“Like always” or “The usual”

Apparently their strategy is Kakuzu letting out a barrage of attacks that Hidan doesn’t need to worry about dodging all so he can get his opponent’s blood, if they’re that high of a skill level that they don’t die in the initial blast radius.

While Kakuzu depends on Hidan in combat…

A reason I go to in my comic…

(read right to left And also Read Akachou sure it has shitty art at the start but so did One Punch Man originally. do u not like opm? im just jk ofc but seriously if you like my rants read my comic. I know 69 people read it on average and I have roughly 900 followers soooo.. ‘w’; )

I just make it a point in my comic that Kakuzu’s wind technique is VERY easily dodge-able without Hidan weaving in and out of the gusts. Take Hidan out of the equation and Atsugai is pretty much a tornado. And in the world of Naruto, a Tornado can be easily avoided. Add a pointy immortal psychopath inside the tornado who wins the battle with one hit with his blade, or one cut from flying debris it’s a much harder to avoid.

“..Who can be my partner.” Kakuzu confesses that it’s easier to have Hidan around. Simply because he can not die in any circumstance. Even though Hidan does not align with Kakuzu’s goals, he is immortal. Which allows Kakuzu to go full berzerker without needing to worry about killing his partner. And it’s shown when he does get angry at Hidan, he has the attitude of a man who has watched him die so many times he sees them fighting as unproductive and a waste of time.

In any case. Hidan seems to have a massive respect for Kakuzu. Despite his grievances with being a bounty hunter and disrespecting religious places like temples.

However…. Whenever Hidan is in trouble.. or having difficulty in a given situation… it’s always…

“KAKUZU DO SOMETHING!!!”

(Sorry for the low quality screens. I’m coping screenshots from the original files I downloaded as a teenager in 2009 internet. Someone needs to teach me how to rip DVDs for better quality mp4 files.)

Hidan is the one who relies on Kakuzu’s intelligence to help him through a fight.

While Hidan is pretty smart on his own:

(As I’ve said a million times before he ain’t stupid)

Hidan tends to lean on Kakuzu in high situations of stress. He depends on him a lot, and while he tends to not give off the impression. Hidan is the one who values Teamwork in their dynamic a hell of a lot. When Kakuzu tells him to shut up, in front of other Akatsuki he usually responds with a “Tche” but listens.

Hidan leans and depends on him a lot. As companionship and probably the closest person to a friend he’s had, and judging by his reaction when Shikamaru tells him that the blood on his pike was his partners..

“Sons a bitches” indeed Hidan. (fansubs are so fun. I’m sure he’s saying “son of a bitch” or “why you little-” here. at least from my weeabo understanding of basic japanese phrases sound like…)

His face is pretty much like: “Sure I’m stupid but fucking Kakuzu?! This little bitch ho hurting my man.”

haahah okay I’m paraphrasing. But Hidan really respects Kakuzu and tends to lean on him and follows him around. Even though he claims he has his own religion and goals to follow, he disregards the commandments to follow Akatsuki’s rules, and goes bounty Hunting with Kakuzu even if it’s something he despises.

He is usually his shadow, and while headstrong, I noticed he tends to let Kakuzu take more of a leadership role. Whether out of convince or subconsciously.. Hidan depends on Kakuzu. I think this might be because he sees him as the only person who will outlast the world with him. But Hidan respects him a whole lot and relies on him a lot…

Kakuzu….meanwhile

This is the only mention of Hidan once Kakuzu has been revived as a corpse.

Now keep in mind, I know Kakuzu is a reanimated corpse under control of the Edo Tensei and controlled by Kabuto.

There are certain limitations to what he can and can’t do.

However, Kakuzu expresses ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in reviving Hidan.

He finds it humorous that Hidan was defeating. And Kakuzu expresses knowledge that since Hidan wasn’t reanimated with the other Akatsuki members, that he must still be alive… Probably somewhere… in pain, with his head cut off, in agony, suffering slowly…

AND HE SMILES.

He smiles at this.

Now Kakuzu has worn a mask through most of his first appearances but he never gave off the impression he was a cheerful man.

But with Hidan out of the picture, and not getting in his way:

“DUM DEE DOO I SURE DO LOVE KILLING WITHOUT A HIDAN SIZED TUMOR IN MY BRAIN~ I FEEL LIKE I’M 70 AGAIN~”

Every character in the Edo Tensei arc react to being brought back to life in a massively different way.

Deidara is angry and frustrated.

Sasori feels he became what he always wanted to be.

Nagato and Itachi feel used and abused by a shinobi system that abandoned them.

Kakuzu meanwhile…. just kinda picks back right where he left off. Taking hearts and taking names and actually appears happy, joyful even.

He is able to fight without Hidan yelling at him what to do. The fact that Hidan is away suffering somewhere is enough to give him pleasure.

Even in Edo Tensei form and under Kabuto’s control, the revived characters express goals and opinions. Like Itachi is a  prime example of this. And Itachi is able to gain independence and help Sasuke out for a time and apologize for being a bad brother.

Kakuzu expresses no interest in this meanwhile. There’s no: “Oh I better go save his ass.” Not even that. Kakuzu is overjoyed to not be with Hidan anymore.

In fact when Kakuzu dissolves from the Edo Tensei, he’s actually smiling this time around. I need to watch that moment to get a better grasp on why. But he really feels happier when Hidan isn’t around.

Hidan depends and relies on Kakuzu far more then Kakuzu relies and depends on him and I think that is most evident in the juxtaposition between Hidan’s death, and Kakuzu’s edo-tensei death.

SQW Day 1 - The List [Sharing A(n other) Child]

SQW is back and I am so incredibly excited! Let’s kick it off with my take on Sharing A(n other) Child; of course, the usual disclaimer applies (the show and characters are not mine, sadly). I hope you’ll have as much fun reading this little story as I did writing it.

May you all have a great Swan Queen Week! <3 Stay awesome, Swen friends!

Family night had always been special to the Swan-Mills family: Wednesday nights were their chances to spend some quality time together, without being bothered by work of Henry’s school work or other activities. Planning the family night, however, had slowly become increasingly difficult: each member of the family had their own idea of what constituted good family fun. That’s why, to ensure everyone was pleased, Regina had come up with the idea of posting a list on their fridge where everyone could add their ideas for the upcoming family nights. It had been working so far, and everyone in the family checked daily if someone had come up with an interesting proposal. On that Wednesday morning, however, Regina was left more than surprised and slightly uncomfortable by the latest addition. There was a new entry, underneath “make a photo album with last Christmas’ pictures” in Regina’s neat and careful handwriting and “eat the largest ice cream sundaes we can find” in Emma’s quick scrawl.

“Discuss baby brother or sister”

Henry had apparently scribbled it in a rush, probably before going off to school. Regina knew there must have been a reason why he’d practically run out of the house to hop on the bus this morning. She re-read the sentence a few times, to make sure she hadn’t misunderstood what her son meant, but she eventually had to come to the only reasonable conclusion: Henry wanted a sibling.

“Hey beautiful, what’ve you got there?” Emma exclaimed joyfully as she entered the kitchen, her empty coffee thermos in hand. She reached for the coffee pot, filled her thermos and turned back to Regina, who was still standing there, obviously shocked.

“Is there something wrong?” Emma asked, slightly concerned. She glanced at the paper Regina was holding and smiled upon realizing it was their list for family night. “Did Henry write something? What is it? Something ridiculous I’m sure?”

Regina shrugged, at a loss for words, and handed the paper over to Emma before leaning against the kitchen counter.

“Discuss baby brother or sister?? What on Earth…?” Emma’s voice raised an octave as she read out loud what her son had written. She looked at Regina with wide eyes and a very obvious apprehension. “Where did he get this idea?”

“I don’t know.” Regina shook her head. “He never mentioned it before – wait.” Emma looked up at her expectantly, silently urging her to go on. “He did say something when we were babysitting your brother, the other day. Something about you being lucky to have a brother, even if he probably felt more like a nephew than an actual brother. I didn’t think much about it at the time, but… Do you think it’s been on his mind for long?”

“Probably? You know Henry, he thinks alone for a while and then he throws his conclusions at you and expects you to understand his whole reasoning. He’s so your son.”

“Yes, because you’re always so open about what’s on your mind” Regina replied with a smile, gentle sarcasm dripping from her every word.

Both women smiled at each other. This kind of playful banter was a regular occurrence between them, and they never got tired of it.

“Well, what do you think then?” Emma prompted. “Is it something you even want to discuss?”

“We’ve always discussed everything and anything with Henry, I don’t see why it should change now –”

“I meant do you want to discuss it with me?”

“Oh.” Regina paused for an instant, observing Emma’s face. “Well, we probably should, shouldn’t we?”

“Yeah, probably.” Emma couldn’t help but sound disappointed that Regina had to think about whether she wanted to talk about it.

“Do you have time now? Or should we maybe do it at lunch?” Regina’s voice was now so professional, as if she was merely scheduling an appointment with a slightly unpleasant citizen of Storybrooke.

“Lunch works for me. I’ll come meet you at your office, okay?” Emma’s throat tightened as she said those words. She needed to leave quickly, before she let her emotions get the better of her. “Love you!” She placed a kiss on Regina’s cheek before grabbing back her thermos and exiting the kitchen. Less than a minute later, her Bug had driven halfway up the street, leaving Regina alone with her thoughts.

Lunch time came much quicker than both women would have wanted it. They had both been lost in thoughts all morning, tallying the pros and cons of adding to the family. When Emma knocked on Regina’s office door, she was surprised to find herself anxious. She took a deep breath before stepping in the room and going straight to sit down in Regina’s couch, where Regina joined her a few moments later.

“How was your morning?” Regina asked, trying to keep the conversation casual.

“I’m not sure. I don’t think I was paying much attention, I was thinking about our talk” Emma answered honestly.

“I thought about it too.” Regina’s tone had switched back to mayoral, and Emma couldn’t help but cringe. “Should we share our conclusions on the matter, then?”

“You don’t want a baby, do you?” Emma burst, all plans to remain calm now forgotten.

Regina was startled by the sudden outburst retreated slightly on her side of the couch.

“Why would you say that, Emma? I haven’t said anything yet.”

“You don’t have to actually say anything. You sound… Unhappy with the situation. As if you’re trying to refuse without looking like the bad guy.” Emma looked down at her knees, pouting like a child.

Regina chuckled slightly, almost sadly. “Oh, Emma. I’m sorry you thought I wanted to refuse. I was just surprised about the whole thing, to say the least. I didn’t expect to suddenly have to talk about it.”

Emma looked up at her, green eyes flashing with hope.

“So it’s not a no on the baby?”

“I would never say no without thinking about it first.”

“But…?” Emma could sense the “but” coming.

“I’m not sure.” Regina confessed. “It’s all very tempting, but… You weren’t there when Henry was young.” The words weren’t said in an accusative tone, but they stung nonetheless. “I don’t think I was a very good mother then. I mean, Henry was fed and healthy and I kept a roof over his head and he was materially fine, but… I’m not sure I was very good at loving him.”

Regina’s self-doubt hurt Emma more than any remembrance that she had missed most of Henry’s childhood ever could.

“What do you mean, not very good at loving him? Regina, you’ve always been an incredible mom to Henry. He’s turned out amazing, and you get most, if not all, the credit for that.”

Regina smiled sadly before softly patting Emma’s hand.

“It’s very sweet of you to say that.”

“I mean it, Regina.” Seeing that no amount of complimenting would ever get Regina to see how good of a mother she had been, her Evil Queen breakdown aside, Emma added: “Anyway, I’ll be here this time. And you can’t deny that, together, we make a pretty kickass team moms.”

“Team moms?” Regina chuckled. “I like the sound of that.”

“Yeah, me too.” Emma pulled Regina into a one-armed hug. “So, now that we’ve gotten this out of the way… What do you say about this potential baby?”

“I can’t wait to meet them. I mean, only if you’re 100% on board for this, of course.”

“Are you kidding me? I’ve never been more on board for anything in my whole life!” Emma’s eyes were sparkling, and Regina’s smile was properly radiant. Both women stayed silent a second, reveling in each other’s happiness until Emma broke the silence, sending them into a fit of laughter.

“Man, this baby is going to be the greatest baby ever made! No one stands a chance to team moms.”

When Henry came back from school on that Wednesday afternoon, he was surprised to see a paper taped to the front door of the house. He got slightly nervous when he recognized their list of ideas for family night. One of his mothers had circled his proposal in red, and the other – Emma, he was certain – had put a smiley face next to it. Henry grabbed the paper, with a wide smile on his lips, and he rushed into the house, impatient for family night to begin.

Weird but important fact about video and eyeballs.

I was just reminded of this when I found an old video of my eyeballs shaking all over the place when I got overloaded and stressed.  It wasn’t that I looked at the camera in the video, at least not that I remember from looking it over really fast.  Just that I saw the eyes and, because of being reminded of eyes in general,  remembered something I learned a long time ago about eyes and video cameras.

So when I was a kid I was in a weird ultra-low-budget educational movie about grief.  They told us never to look directly into the camera.  They said that if you looked straight at the lens, then no matter what it really happened, it wold look like you were deliberately staring into the camera, and people would read all kinds of things into that, that aren’t really there to read.  They said even glancing for a second can cause this.

Also, people in general see someone looking at a camera as the same thing as eye contact.  It isn’t the same at all. Some people who avoid eye contact also don’t look into cameras.  But some people do one or the other and not both.  It looks like eye contact in the finished picture or video.  But it’s really just staring at a little (or large, as the case may be) box when someone hits a button and/or points it at you.

I remember watching a documentary sometime in the past 10-15 years.  Many subjects of the documentary were young (not yet adolescent, even, as far as I could tell) children.  Children who had either not been taught about these things, or had been taught and forgot, or just couldn’t help looking at the camera sometimes anyway.  More on that in a second, I need to add a note about being unable to avoid it even when trying:

From my time on the news – it is hard to pretend the camera and camera crew are not there.  I was able to avoid looking sraight ino the camera, but I (and the other people being filmed) found it impossible to pretend we were alone, which is what they were asking us to do.  I think it may be especially hard for autistic (and possibly some other neurodivergent people too) people to pretend something or someone isn’t there.  I don’t know if the children had this problem, or some other reason for looking straight at the camera sometimes.  But I bet it’s hard for kids to pretend entire camera crews out of existence too, especially in a high-stress situation like being filmed.

So anyway – back to these kids.

I saw a lot of people talk knowingly about how this one girl was obviously playing to the camera and not really interested in doing the things she was doing.  They based this on the fact that at one point she opened her eyes and appeared to stare right into the camera just before doing an even more fervent version of what she was doing beforehand.

And – they could be right.  She could’ve been hamming it up for show.

But – they could just as easily be wrong.  She could have glanced at the camera because she heard the camera crew and instinctively turned to look.  And then thrown herself back into what she was doing so that she wouldn’t get caught off-guard that way again.  And even a momentary glance like that could easily look like she was deliberately making note of where the camera was so she could “perform” better for it.  Because a glance can look like an intentional stare, when watching a video.

I don’t think we’ll ever get an answer to that.  But when it comes to judging people based on certain aspects of how they look on camera, I try to be very cautious if it involves anything that depends (for interpretation) on a moment when they looked at the camera.  Because that look gets exaggerated tenfold.  And because even someone deliberately looking at the camera can have zillions of different motives and not all of them are in any way related to puffing up their ego or performing or making sure they’re being watched or anything like that.

And remember that if you’re watching someone who’s in a documentary or on the news, the likelihood that they have any editorial control whatsoever is slim.  Meaning that things can get spliced together in a way that puts someone in a completely inaccurate light, either on purpose or by accident on the part of the editors and those who work with them.

Even stuff that’s basically accurate can look wrong to people who aren’t paying attention to editing as a thing that happens in videos.

Like… during my interview, they showed me typing, but only enough to show I was typing the answers.  They didn’t show me thinking before I was typing, and they didn’t show all of the typing, and some of the video didn’t always match the audio going on in terms of representing what happened in realtime.  All of this makes total sense and is standard.  You can’t show these things in realtime without wasting a lot of time.

So people afterwards somehow thought – even with obvious cuts between different views, etc. – that all of this was in realtime.  So they’d say it was strange that I never needed time to think before typing – no, they just didn’t show me thinking.  Some also questioned that the answers were so long but the time spent typing was so short.  Nobody involved seemed aware that even news interviews are generally edited somewhat, especially when they contain extremely long boring time-consuming typing sequences.

So just beware of this… I don’t know whether to call it an illusion, or what to call it if it’s not an illusion.  But be aware of this… misleading quality of cameras, I guess.  And remember that things are almost always edited and can range from slightly off to completely misleading – both when it’s intended to mislead and when it isn’t.  If your entire judgement of someone’s character is based on them looking at the camera, you might want to hold off on judging them.  Because they could as easily have been doing something totally different than what you imagine.  And if it’s part of a deliberate series of edits, the filmmakers may be attempting to portray someone in a particular light that may not be accurate.

I don’t know what that kid was doing.  But most importantly – I don’t claim to know what was going on in a the mind of a child I don’t even personally know, just because she glanced at the camera for a second.

TL;DR: Looking at a camera looks like staring even when it isn’t.  Be careful of judging people for looking at a camera during a video.  Be careful of looking at a camera during the taping of a video.  Also, editing is a thing and even editing that doesn’t intend to mislead can confuse some people.

anonymous asked:

How do you think Ymir's idea/founding of Freedom in 89 connects or contributes thematically throughout the series and how it may come up in future chapters? Or what Isayama has left to address in these final arcs/chapters. Honestly I'd just love to read your thoughts/writings on the characters, the details you've noticed that are tying it all together and where it may end up. (not concrete predictions, your chapter 90 thoughts highlighted the joy in the spontaneity and odd choices the writing)

This question is my new favorite.

The intensely interesting thing about Ymir is that in her story, it is spelled out as explicitly as you ever could ask for that Paradis is her freedom.

Chronologically, at this point in the story, everyone is running around screaming over their home being destroyed. They’re buckling down and racing further inside the walls as fast as they can, filling their cage to max capacity and throwing people out to die so the rest of them can survive.

Ymir opens her eyes in this place, and she sees freedom. She’s alive, and she has her mind back, and there’s no one nearby who wants her dead. She can do whatever she wants, and it’s the most beautiful thing she’s ever seen.

That’s the vision we’re presented with as Paradis comes to grips with the fact that they’re hated by the entire world. Ymir doesn’t see the walls closing in; she looks up at the sky and finds life.

And she opens that statement with how little individual humans matter. They’re sort of meaningless, right? There’s no real value in any of her flailing, or anyone else’s.

Except when she reaches Paradis, she can choose.

She doesn’t matter. There’s no significance to her struggles.

She still has the power to do whatever the heck she wants.

That’s so cool.

So . . . I need to say some stuff

As anyone who knows me or has held certain kinds of conversations with me could tell you that I am the absolute worst at confrontation. Even if it’s in regards to something more positive. However, as this post is about something rather negative, it will be harder for me to express exactly what I mean without feeling like I’m coming off as an ungrateful or bitchy. However, as this is an apparent concern for many content creators on this site, I don’t think it’s fair to assume I am.

Please allow me to word-vomit an explanation:

Communication aka I’m a Talking Human Being:

Before I started this blog, I had a tendency to send headcanons and AUs to other blogs through anon. In fact, I still do this quite often, and usually to great effect both on the blog-runner’s part and their followers. One day, I got brave enough to submit a soulmate AU drabble set to a Tumblr user who is no longer on this site and a few people asked for more so, after speaking with said Tumblr user, I was encouraged to start Regrettablewritings. Now in my bio, I refer to this place as a “dumping ground” for my pieces. That isn’t just there out of self-deprecation: This was literally just meant to be a place where I put my stuff. All the ideas I had, the headcanons, the one-shots, etc. I never once indicated that this was a place that took requests.

But I should’ve known it’d happen and for that I will take responsibility for not suggesting otherwise. I was never truly set on the idea of doing requests at all because I’ve seen the stuff that people send in by the droves and there was no way I would be able to keep up or provide what was desired and at top quality. However, I feared that completely avoiding or turning down the ones that inevitably came in would result in issues. Blame my paranoia.

I’m still not entirely sure as to what to do with the requests I get. Some, I will admit, I do fulfill. But for the most part, I don’t always feel up to it. Especially considering that I have, by no exaggeration, nearly 20 ideas already stockpiled. Of these pieces, some have been in the works since I started this blog and I’m always trying to figure out which ones to focus on the most so I go, “Hey, I got this, this, and that. Which ones do you wanna see?” And you know what I always get? Nothing. Nobody says what they want from the list. So I sigh, delete the post after having it up for a week, and do whatever I can when the motivation hits me.

Not long after, however, I start getting entirely different requests. Always. I know it’s not intended, but the idea I can’t help but get is that my original content isn’t exactly what anyone is looking for no matter how much work I’m determined to put into it.

I reblog ask memes because maybe if I prove that I’m human behind the screen or showcase that “witty personality” my real life friends keep talking about, maybe it’ll prove that I’m approachable. If I’m lucky one person will message me and I have to stop myself from begging them to please ask more, lest I look desperate.

So then I figured if I reached out to the nearly 400 followers I currently have and tried to connect with them, then maybe there’d be more luck in the realm of communication. But when I tried Sleepover Saturday, only two people “showed up.” And they weren’t even the people who liked the post where I asked if anyone would do it, or the people who told me to go on ahead and do it. So that was the end of that.

For months, I’ve debating bringing up this issue. I didn’t want to look like a snooty bitch, but I also wanted to express how I felt about the situation. I may write to express myself, but I also write and in the way I do to entertain. In real life, I am very cynical and bitter and a bit of a crybaby with a bottled up temper. But the truth of the matter is, I love making people laugh and feel better. The world is already so full of shit; I just want to put a little goodness into somebody else’s day, even if it’s a weirdass fic about everyone’s favorite Cuban lawyer having a past as an adult dancer or whatever. So when it feels like I’m only needed when you want something, and then shelved until then, it doesn’t make me feel good. It makes me feel like the ideas I want to give you aren’t good enough. I know the notes may suggest otherwise, but we’re gonna put a pin in that for a quick second.

The feeling of discouragement often effects my willingness to write. I’ll still do it because, in truth, writing is one of the only things I can do reasonably well. But what’s the point in doing something well if you feel like you’re being taken for granted for it?

I ask you guys for your opinions and feelings on things because I genuinely need to know. I function by playing around with options. Any friend of mine, in real life or online, will tell you that if I’m working on a project (be it painting, fanfiction, or essay), I will throw my ideas out there or ask you for your thoughts on the matter. For fuck’s sake, I’ve heckled @xemopeachx and @ohbelieveyoume about cologne suggestions for one sentence in a piece I’ve been working on! That is how thorough I tend to be about the weirdest shit. But I also do it because I feel you guys deserve that kind of effort. I need a lot of things explained to me in depth to know how they work, so I make it an effort to use that as a means to help others see exactly what I do. I’m already hard to comprehend in real life. Please don’t let me think this effort is for nothing.

Summary: I work hard to give content but never hear anything back in terms of what you would like to see next. But when this happens, it’s like I’m posting from the void and nobody can see it. However, suddenly people are willing to fall into the void if only to make a request. I try to reach out and be more friendly, but even those are disregarded. I don’t know what to do.

Notes: Regarding Likes, Reblogs, and Messaging:

This is something that a lot of content creators talk about. If you’ve seen a post about always reblogging art, chances are you’ve seen a comment saying something like, “Same goes for fanfic writers.” This isn’t riding on coattails or anything, this is some real mess. And, on top of that, there’s an extended difference between art feedback and writing feedback. Because with artists, exposure for them can lead to commissions. Writers? We do this for free. However, this doesn’t make feedback any less deserving.

I’m not trying to complain here, but nobody writes 7-21 pages worth of content to get 100+ notes where only about 12 of them are reblogs. Now I, as well as many others, will give leeway: There is a definite stigma against people who read fanfiction and they may not want it on their blog. I get that. A lot of writers do. But when the reblog to total note ratio is 12/115, 14/192, and 13/207, things get … disheartening.

Because guys? Writing is HARD. I know you may see this statement all the time, but that’s only because it’s true: You have to remember all these words so you don’t sound repetitive, you have to paint a clear enough picture without sound prose-y, you have to somehow translate exactly what the image in your head is and pray you don’t lose people along the way, you have to SOMEHOW get from Point A to Point C when Point B is either exceedingly blurry or even nonexistent. And, perhaps the hardest of all, YOU HAVE TO BE MOTIVATED! It takes so much energy and focus just to write one page, especially if you have a hectic life going on beyond the screen. And guess what? A lot of, if not, all writers do!

For example: For the first two and a half months of running this blog, I wrote on my phone for most of the time because I didn’t have a laptop and the only times I could use the computer lab in my dorm was when others were done with their work. (To gain a better idea of how vexing this can be, please note that A Practice in Happy Memories was written on my phone and that bitch is 6 pages in Word. Try doing that and see how tired of it you get.) And I’m one of the lucky ones: You’ve got people going through some rough stuff in their lives, people raising families while holding down a job, coming on this hell site to write and share their thoughts and ideas. I’m just some 22 year-old black chick with seasonal depression and increasingly crippling social anxiety and an aggressively negative view of the world!

Forgive me for sounding cocky, but I would like to think I deserve better than, like, 8 reblogs on a 60-noted something I literally tapped to life in-between homework and depression naps. Really, though, every writer who’s had to do this deserves better. The amount of talented writers who bust out quality content in spite of broken technology or, you know, having a life outside of the computer yet don’t get treated with utmost appreciation is unreal.

I’m not trying to shame people here, but if you can’t reblog, then reply. Or send a message. Even if it’s on anonymous. Trust me: You message a writer saying you love their crap, you will make their day and they will treasure that thing and look back on it when they feel like crap. For those of you that do reblog, please tag it. It literally only takes a few seconds. As @locke-writes put it in his own post about similar issues, writers really want/need to know what you thought. A like is equivalent to a quick nod and distant pat on the back. A reblog without a tag is a bit better, but still doesn’t get across exactly how you felt, what we did right, etc. A reblog with comments, even in the tags? Makes our fucking day!

Likes? They’re literally just the person who walks by your free sample booth, takes the sample, and doesn’t even acknowledge your existence.

I know I should feel grateful that I have as many notes as I do at all. However, a ridiculous amount tend to come from people who 1) don’t even follow me, and 2) they’re just likes. I have nearly 400 followers already and the same small handful only ever add into the notes. And even fewer actually comment or anything.

This is a common issue for a lot of writers: We just want to be seen as more than just story-making machines. We desire validation for the time and acknowledgement for the effort we put into something we feel we’re skilled at. But a lot of people may feel uncomfortable talking about it in fear of seeming ungrateful or anything but this feeling just drives them closer to wanting to quit writing altogether.

I’m not quitting Tumblr. At least, not anytime soon. But I still need you guys to know this because it’s been boiling up inside me and it’s driving me nuts. Anyway, I’m sorry if I came off as bitchy here as that wasn’t my intention. My intention was to give you a look into some part of the mind that a lot of writers have. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

Summary: Reblogs > Likes. Reblogs with comments and tags ∞ > Likes. And if you can’t reblog, reply or send a message. Your content creator worked to make that piece come to fruition and they deserve to know how they did. O.O I saw the pencil sketch of your dragon OC on the other Blog but how did you line art and color it on Paint?!! with a TRACKPAD? ._. And how did you erase the sketch? I'm sorry I'm a n00b but could you do a tut in your spare time for us people without fancy technology? PS: I bow before your skills TT^TT

  • putting markings on a color while without worrying about getting out of the lines

  • putting down some shading

  • coloring lineart

  • marking behind a drawing

(if you didn’t know about that, i recommend checking it out in step 4)
