7 for the mini fic thing
Thanks for the ask! I’m so sorry this took a while.
7. “I’ve missed you” kiss
It has been 10 days since she last saw him. 10 whole days. 240 hours. 14,400 minutes. And every single minute felt ridiculously long.
It was rare for them to be spending so much time apart, especially now that Henry’s deployments were far behind them. As Elizabeth stepped into the foyer of the McCord household that night, she wondered how they had survived being apart for months at a go, sometimes even a year. She shuddered at the thought, kicking off her heels and leaving them along the hallway. With a sigh, she found some comfort in knowing that he was returning home in a few hours.
Just a few more hours. It became her mantra for the night.
Despite his absence in their bed, she fell asleep fairly quickly, having thrown herself into work to pass time. But when the door opened and clicked shut downstairs, she immediately woke up, her senses tingling in excitement. She looked at the clock on his night stand. 4:37 am. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes and slipping into a cardigan, she tiptoed down the stairs.
“Henry?” she whispered.
He jumped in surprise before turning around. His face softened into a smile when he realized it was her. “Hey, babe.”
Without another word, she closed the distance between them and pulled him into a hug, inhaling his familiar scent. “I missed you,” she mumbled, her voice muffled by his shirt.
“I missed you too.” He peppered her hair with kisses and ran his hands soothingly along her back. When they pulled apart, he slipped a finger under her chin and tipped her face towards him, her lips parted in anticipation. When their lips met, he felt her body relax against his. Her fingers grasped the hairs at the nape of his neck, pulling him closer. It had been too long. He released a soft moan when her tongue slipped into his mouth, quickly falling into their practiced rhythm.
When they ran out of breath, they broke apart, resting their foreheads against each other’s. Once they regained their breaths, he pecked her lightly. “Shall we go to bed?”
“Yeah,” she nodded. He laughed when her eyes watered as she stifled a yawn. Holding her hand in his, they climbed up the stairs to their bedroom and for the first time in a while, they slept well.
