“The idea of acting sounds quite exciting to me. The idea of playing the ultimate rough chavvy - it’s like me being everyone I always wanted to be in Doncaster!”
“I love the shell suit. I mean look, I’m a chav from Donny! I gotta embrace me roots!”
Almost like Larries don’t know or understand anything about Louis or how he sees himself or how he’s actually presented himself for years. Chav can be a loaded word but it depends on use. Used as James Arthur did - calling himself and Louis “just a couple of chavs” - is obviously not meant as an insult, and obviously does refer to an identity that Louis feels strongly about. Louis obviously takes huge pride in his northern, working class background. It’s clear to anyone who actually pays attention that this is how he sees himself, that he does not see it as a bad thing. “Common as muck”? They’re using that as an insult?? And then calling other people classist??
And because they didn’t want to accept who Louis really is, didn’t want to accept that he’d actually be friends with James Arthur because they don’t like his image and what it means for who Louis is (and use the excuse of past homophobic comments that he has since apologized for), Larries said this about the exact identity and the exact word that Louis has now used to describe himself:
WHAT A DISGRACE this team is for what they have done to Louis’ image. Imagine how Louis, his family, his stylist and his friends feel that he’s been called that? This is fucking deliberate. It’s disgusting.
They take Louis’s lower class image as an insult in contrast to Harry’s posh one, they insist it MUST carry an implication of ignorance and homophobia, and they’re calling other people classist. They call Louis’s entire identity a “disgrace” and refuse to accept that everyone else can see him as a northern lad AND a complex, beautiful person.
And once again, they’ve been shown to be deeply, utterly wrong about one of the things they use as an excuse for hatred and harassment - as well as deeply wrong about who Louis is.
