YELLS. A LOT. Okay, now that I got that out of my system…
It’s only been a month, and I’m actually kind of shocked at how well received this blog has been and how much traction it gained in a short amount of time, considering how old my muse’s series is. the fandom may be barely alive, but the love and appreciation for InuYasha certainly hasn’t died at all, and I’m so happy for that! all of you have made this trip back to 90′s nostalgia so wonderful, and the positive reception of my portrayal is such a relief, considering how popular a character he is. I look forward to continue having this annoying doggo harass the hell out of ya’ll.
I am completely overwhelmed by everyone’s amazing and encouraging responses to my first chapter. It’s hard to explain just how much your comments mean to me! You guys are just the best. I hope you enjoy everything to come!
Special thanks to Corinna, my amazing Mandarin translator!! And always Kaiya and Liz. Love yall. =)
“Do I have to go to school today?” Daisy looked up at Melinda imploringly from behind her bowl of cereal.
“Eat another bite, Daisy, and yes.” Melinda answered, glancing at her daughter from the island where she was assembling a turkey and cheese sandwich for Daisy’s lunchbox. The disappointment on Daisy’s little face made her want to change her mind, but her shift started in an hour. She couldn’t call out now unless there was some kind of emergency.
“But-but I wanna go to work with you.” Daisy sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
Melinda set down the sandwich and immediately went to crouch beside her little girl. She was used to Daisy’s reluctance to part from her. Especially when she was a baby, her separation anxiety had made it difficult for Melinda to go anywhere alone. But this was something different. She usually wasn’t this clingy anymore unless she was sick…or something was upsetting her.
“Daisy, xiǎo huā,” Melinda had given Daisy the Mandarin nickname when she was still just a baby: little flower. Melinda put a hand on her back and switched to Mandarin, as she frequently did at the house with Daisy. “What’s wrong?” She probed.
Hmmm so any chance I could snag the recipe from you?
I don’t have a recipe so I’m gonna wing it:
What you need:
Soup pot (large pot for lots of soup, small pot for…smaller amounts). Stick blender
Carrots (like a kilo or kilo and a half) Onions - you only need one. I use three though. Ginger (fresh is best) - I use about two-three teaspoons, but if you’re just starting out, add one and adjust. Garlic (fresh also good) - I use genuinely about 15 cloves, you do not need this many. Five is a good start, lol. Rosemary (fresh good, dry works) - add at end to taste. Stock cubes - I use vegetarian beef lol, because I was taught how to make this by a vegetarian, you can use whatever you like. I use 2. 1 is enough. A lot of this soup is ‘adding based on what tastes good’ so it’s better to add more at the end than too much at the beginning. You could add liquid stock in place of water. Salt/pepper/etc.
Other root vegetables are pretty tasty in this soup. It’s also good to taste one of the carrots first to make sure it’s a sweet carrot, and not a bitter carrot. Otherwise you’ll get that bitter taste all through the soup.
How to do the thing:
Peel things that need peeling. (Carrots etc.) Roughly chop things that need chopping (Carrots, onions, garlic, ginger).
(Remember you’re using the stick blender to blend everything later, so you don’t need to worry about things being nicely cut or whatever - except for the garlic and ginger).
Fry ginger and garlic in ghee or butter or margarine in soup pot. Until the house smells really good.
Add onions. Cook until soft and a little see-through.
Add all the rest. (Sans rosemary.)
Add enough water that you can see it, but it doesn’t completely cover the vegetables. You can always boil it off if you add too much, or add more if it’s too little.
Bring to boil and then simmer on low heat for a thousand years with some kind of lid on the pot. Seriously like it takes about 1.5-2 hours for me. This is a soup I like to forget about.
When carrots are soft enough that they can be easily smooshed with a fork or wooden spoon, turn off stove and get your stick blender out. Blend that fucker down.
You should end with a smooth, creamy, orange soup that tastes absolutely incredible given the main ingredient is carrots.
Alter flavours as needed, and add your rosemary. (Put back on stove on low heat for this).
Can be served with sour cream except I don’t like sour cream.
Serve with crusty bread if you like that too!
Have thirds and try not to think about how many carrots you’ve just consumed….
It will taste better the day after, as most soups do. :D
• bright orange short tail, glowing orange hair
Those who have glowing hair are very rare and are rumored to be “gifted” with special talents and such. Although for Hinata so far it’s only been his ability to swim super fast and practically light up the whole sea with his smile. Since he’s super bright and orange (and sometimes stupid) his nickname is Goldfish.
• blue, average length tail (glows brighter when he’s excited/happy)
He doesn’t have many friends, when asked the merfolk usually say he just looks kind of boring or in a bad mood all the time. But when Hinata starts forcing a friendship to happen, he realizes that Kags is like some sort of genius when he hunts, never missing when he throws his spear.
• faint silver, very long tail, glowing golden eyes
Glowing eyes are more common than glowing hair (but still very rare), and they allow him to see the world a bit differently (like he’d be able to tell right before someone was about to get sick, so he’s a little more than very perceptive). His tail doesn’t glow that bright anymore though, because he was attacked by sharks when he was six years old.
So Hope and Galen have swords, Daphne has a spear, Aggie has a bow and Leon has a flintlock pistol and a sword; what about Hermione?
Hermione is the literal shield, she’s not as into the offensive kind of magic and skills that do a lot of damage, at least not at first. You’ll see her get into different kinds of shielding. Really, Hermione’s the sane one, she doesn’t have a drop of godly blood and thinks her friends are going to accidentally stab themselves one day (which, of course, they do). She thinks they’re idiots, but is that going to stop her from being the best at wand magic? No, absolutely not.
Its about playing to your strengths and discovering yourself, and Hermione’s always known who she is, and so has Daphne, the only one who’s going through major changes, really, is Hope, and Hope’s interests go all over the place, while the other two tend to stick to what they know.
