i love them so much words cannot begin to describe it

Juvia isn’t a stalker

This is an old, very frustrating argument for Gruvia fans that shouldn’t even exist anymore. This post also shouldn’t exist because I am refuting something Juvia didn’t actually do, but this is what it’s come down to, sadly. The bottom line is that Juvia can not redeem herself for an issue that Mashima-sensei, the author, doesn’t believe exists (aka the non-existent stalking).

I. The amount of times Juvia watched Gray and why

Juvia did not stalk Gray EVER, but she did hang in the background. He and the guild had been the enemy. If she had walked right up to Gray and his friends, there would have been a backlash. It’s natural that she was afraid because of the damage she helped inflict. Despite this, she formed an affinity to Gray and Fairy Tail which she carefully approached to the best of her ability.

As it also shows in her memories, Juvia had a well-established history of being shunned because of her rain which further led to her tentative approach. Additionally, given the rejection and shunning of the past, Juvia lacked the developmental opportunity to refine social engagement. There was no malicious intent in her actions. She was afraid of being rejected again, so she kept her distance.

And in fact, Juvia and Gajeel’s presence in Fairy Tail DID cause a backlash. Laxus and the Raijinshuu did get angry when they found out two former Phantom Lord members who had attacked the guild were allowed to join.

Yet, both Juvia and Gajeel made up for their former transgressions already against the specific members they had targeted by protecting them. Juvia protected Gray from Simon, and Gajeel protected Levy from Laxus. That was supposed to be their redemption…IT WAS THEIR REDEMPTION. As stated in the first paragraph, in bold this time: Juvia can not redeem herself for an issue that Mashima-sensei, the author, doesn’t believe exists (aka the non-existent stalking).

Ultimately, Juvia did approach Gray when he was by himself to ask what he thought about her joining Fairy Tail.  This was their first direct meeting after they met in Chapter 56. Indirect encounters include chapter 67 where she observed from afar and delivered a bento and chapter 75 where we see her watching Gray and the rest of team Natsu at the resort.

It was at this point that Juvia approached Gray properly when she finally caught him alone, and they went to get drinks together. It’s supported by the manga that Juvia joining Fairy Tail would have caused a backlash, as even Gray was wary of her joining because of the things that they did, but he personally did not mind her joining.  Juvia then spent the rest of the arc openly helping Gray and his friends in the Tower Of Heaven.

At the end of the arc, when Erza asked after Juvia, Gray was the one who knew her name, and where she had gone. Once team Natsu returned to FT, Juvia became a member, and Gray was quite happy about it. After chapter 75 Juvia has never in the manga followed Gray without his knowledge again until chapter 416, where she came to apologize for what happened to Gray’s father.

When Gray seemed dismayed that Juvia had followed him to his parents grave, she immediately apologized

In fact, Juvia has apologized a few times within the series when she thought she upset Gray, including in 413 Days when she apologized for fearing that she ruined Gray’s day of mourning. But, in fact, Gray ended up also apologizing to her, because he thought it was his fault. He profusely apologized to her in chapter 416 as well while sobbing in her arms.

II. Gray’s feelings

If Gray was so uncomfortable and disliked Juvia’s presence, the above scene would not have happened. He appreciates and is grateful for Juvia always being next to him, which by default completely annihilates the claim that he is disgusted by her. This is obvious because we see the change in their relationship throughout the course of the manga, on panel. I repeat, Gray likes the fact that Juvia is always by his side and wants her there.

Furthermore, Juvia’s comedic advances and Gray’s reactions (which have actually become softer/changed) are exaggerated on purpose. Japanese love this type of humor use in their mangas. It’s meant to be lighthearted, not give off an awful message regarding a pairing. As with many shounen, panel space is often limited for character interactions, so “dramatic” presentations are necessary for conveying points. Mashima-sensei has only ever portrayed Juvia’s love as a positive thing for both characters. Her love for Gray has saved not just Gray’s life, but also the lives of others on multiple occasions.

While it’s true Mashima-sensei loves using Juvia for comic relief from time to time, it’s important to not let the jokes outweigh the serious moments. In reality, we are not supposed to put so much stock into comedy. Adding to the fact that Juvia’s fight with Meredy proved her love for Gray to be genuine, there’s another factor some people seem to miss.

In the final chapter of the Tartarus arc, Juvia was about to give up on her love for Gray because she believed she did not have the right to love him anymore. She truly thought it was for his sake, and was prepared to be hated by Gray forever. An obsessive person or crazy stalker would never do this. But Juvia did, expecting this would ruin any chance she had with Gray, and was positive she would be loathed. However she knew confessing what she did was the right thing to do and came clean. Here, Mashima-sensei is showing the difference between an unhealthy obsessed individual and someone who’s love is selfless as they put the other person’s feelings above their own. Above all, Gray didn’t let Juvia give up on him. He embraced her, thanked her, and cried in her arms.

Chapter 499 speaks for itself, so I really don’t see the need to touch upon it other than the fact that the Japanese raw text confirms that Gray does see Juvia as more than a friend, aka, a love interest. As if his actions in the chapter and prior to weren’t enough. Double suicide in Japan is one of the most romantic acts of love based on samurai history.

III. The definition of a stalker

  • a person who harasses or persecutes someone with unwanted and obsessive attention.
  • a person who harasses another person, as a former lover, a famous person, etc., in an aggressive, often threatening and illegal manner.

Neither of the above definitions describes Juvia’s character. Juvia would be the last person in the world to harass or threaten Gray in any way. The two times she watched him were harmless and there were justified reasons behind them. Back to the definition; Juvia doesn’t need to do any of these things, because she is Gray’s friend, and at this point, so much more than that. She’s a partner, they go on missions together, socialize together, and have even lived together.

Real cases for stalking often involve the stalker having control over their victim, sometimes employing fear in a desperate attempt to maintain control, which Juvia has NEVER done. Admiring someone from afar is not the same as stalking them, especially when you don’t have the courage to talk to them. That’s why Juvia quickly threw the bento in Gray’s hands without trying to be noticed. She wanted to do nice things for him, but couldn’t do them directly out of nervousness. That’s not what stalkers do. And of course, as stated above, Juvia was about to give up on Gray. Stalkers aren’t willing to give up their ties with the person.

Juvia does not need to “stalk” Gray. She stands proudly by his side with no reluctance from him.

And even more importantly Gray has never expressed any adversity to Juvia’s presence. If anything, he has expressed the opposite. Gray of his own accord hangs around her. And Gray had mentioned once in 338 that he would say no to the things he dislikes from then on. Yet he had never said no before, nor after that statement. In fact, he contradicted his own statement later on by eating the bread Juvia offered him, and holding her hand in comfort during the Tartarus arc.

We also have to keep in mind Gray falls under the tsundere character trope, which means his actions often contradict his words, and as stated above, his adverse reactions are often played off comedically, because he is not being honest about his actual feelings. Juvia’s earnest feelings towards Gray usually cause the cool and collected character to lose his composure. That’s the joke.

IV. Conclusion

Juvia is often labeled a stalker while we look past Gajeel crucifying Levy or Jellal trying to murder Erza. All of these things occurred at the beginning, but have ceased to be current habits. That’s character development. It’s one thing to not like a ship because of the dynamic. But it’s a double standard to hail the development of one ship and ignore another. People simply cannot move passed Juvia’s first impression, and that is sad.

Every pairing has its shtick, such as Natsu touching Lucy inappropriately and breaking into her house, and Levy hitting Gajeel often. Humor is completely subjective, that’s true, however it’s obvious what Mashima-sensei intends to fall under the umbrella of humor, and that absolutely includes Juvia’s antics and Gray’s reactions to them. Saying they aren’t meant to be funny is just being purposely oblivious and contrary. You don’t have to think it’s funny to know it’s meant as a joke. Gruvia gets condemned by the fandom the most when it comes to their particular aspect of humor, and that is unfair.

This is a fictional world, they are fictional characters, and they do not have to meet real life standards. Many of the characters within Fairy Tail have quirks or perform actions that are not acceptable in reality. Fairy Tail itself is a fantasy manga. The world and the characters are exaggerated for the purpose of drama and comedy. This fantasy world is also based on Japanese humor and storytelling conventions, and ignoring this fact can lead to misunderstanding characters.

Juvia has not watched Gray from a distance without his knowledge since before she joined Fairy Tail. That was at least 8-9 years ago in both our timeline and the manga time line (counting the 7 year time skip). No one in the Fairy Tail universe, nor Mashima-sensei, seem to think Juvia’s actions from her introduction need to be addressed or redeemed, because it is a non-issue that only certain parts of the fandom can’t let go of. She will not vocally apologize for a problem that doesn’t exist.

Gray, especially, has gone so far passed his initial relationship and dynamic with Juvia. It’s sad that so many fans are concerned on Gray’s behalf, but never truly take Gray’s actual feelings or words into consideration. He cares for Juvia, he almost definitely loves Juvia romantically, and he is grateful she is by his side. He’s willing to go above and beyond, including sacrificing his life for her (twice) just to ensure her safety. Those are not the feelings of someone who is a victim of stalking.

SHEITH FIC REC PT.2

Hey, so I’m back with more fics. Honestly I haven’t read that many fics lately, kinda distracted by trying to write my own, here’s to hoping it goes well, right? But the fandom deserves something nice in the light of all the troll fics that were posted. I was wondering if I should update my old rec list? Or should I combine this one and the other one into one massive list? What do you guys think? Anyway, same formula, titles are links and bolded, italics are my commentary. Happy reading!

One-shots (Canon-verse)

“Hey, nice to meet you. Keith, right? I’m Shiro.”

Shiro and Keith’s backstory fic, and wow, I was not expecting how it all happened. 11/10 would read again

grief by Recluse (T) 4.5k

There are five stages.

Obligatory Keith grieving over Shiro fic.

it’s not a star i see (it’s always you) by janie_tangerine (E) 18.5k

in which both Keith and Shiro are stuck with birthdays on dates they don’t like. Meeting each other makes it more than just a bit better.

Birthday fic that combines Keith’s backstory and major Keith feels with Shiro and god just read the fic please, it’s worth it.

Break Out by reinkist (E) 10.8k

An unexpected reaction to the alien plant life forces Keith and Shiro to have to reevaluate what their relationship is, and what it could be.

Sex pollen fic. Warning for dubious consent. Trope-y as it is, I like how it forces them to confront with certain things.

Falling Forward by flyingisland (T) 3.5k

Shiro is a romantic catastrophe, even with an excellent wingman like Pidge.

Pining Shiro is the best.

crash collide into space by ohmygodwhy (T) 2.6k

Shiro’s gone and all he has left of him are a shitty couch and a few pictures on his phone and dog tags that he’s afraid to touch because touching them feels like accepting the fact that Shiro will never touch them again. If he holds them for long enough any traces of Shiro’s touch will be wiped away and replaced, like they were never there to begin with, like Shiro was never there to begin with.

They deserve to be happy together goddamnit.

Would You Rather...

“Thank you so much for doing this for me, Y/N! Rather have some company on my way to work than drive alone.”

She’s settling herself into the passenger’s seat when James beams at her, his expression excited as he helps her with the seatbelt.

“Seatbelt’s a bit tricky here ehh! But anytime, anytime.”

She’s watched tons of these carpool karaoke skits, each with an inspiring artist sitting on the spot she’s so lucky to be in now. She’s been excited about this ever since she got the call, the fact that James had moved his show out to LA making it easier for her to confirm. The both of them went over where the cameras were located before filming started, and when she asked what tracks they’d be karaok-ing to or what questions he’ll be asking, he just would not spill. So that makes her just a tad nervous if she’s being honest.

But she knows, or at least hopes, that any real bad uh-oh’s will be edited out for her sake.

So no, it’s not unexpected at all when the first track that pops up is her latest single, and right off the bat they’re belting out the lyrics and having a grand time.

With breaks for questions between songs, James is sure to ask about the new unreleased album, commenting and complementing her on the sound.

When they come to a red light at the corner of the street and they’re spotted by fans who begin to ask for pictures and autographs, Y/N has to look apologetically at James, giving him a desperate look before softly saying she’ll be quick.

She takes a bit of time to hug and sign whatever items are being shoved at her, taking an occasional picture before she waves James over to join her. And he can’t quiet say no. A lot of celebrities don’t normally do this, they’d rather keep their head low and pace fast, but seeing Y/N’s interactions with her fans has him putting the car in park and joining her for group photos.

Eventually they make their way back into the vehicle and on the road again.

She apologies endlessly about having him stop, but he assures her it’s okay, that they should probably continue with what they were doing since she’s on a tight schedule.

“I think you’re gonna like this next one. Little bird told me you’re a big fan.”

And Y/N’s sure her eyes light up instantly the second Harry’s verse comes up, but she doesn’t care, she’s singing and smiling and James is doing it, too. When the song comes to an end she can’t wipe the smile off her face, and James sure does take a notice to that.

“Great song that was wasn’t it?”

Y/N can only nod in agreement.

“They’re great guys, too. Really are.”

“I bet they are lovely people.”

“You’ve never met them?”

“Oh I wish, but no unfortunately I haven’t.”

“Oh you lot would get on well. You sort of remind me of Harry in how you are with your fans.”

“Really now? I can only hope I’m half as generous. I admire him for that.”

A smirk plays on his lips now, eyes on the road but still taking notice to your words.

“Okay so I heard you absolutely hate answering these.” And James cannot hide the devious smile that’s made its way into his face.

“Oh no! I should have really asked for the itinerary on this interview.”

James can’t help but laugh.

“Okay so would you rather-”

Just by the sound of those words, Y/N knows she gonna wanna fling herself out of the car. And she’s not subtle about the fact that she detests the scenarios the questions bring by the way she bring her hand to her forehead and grunts.

“-would you rather open for Madonna, or run into Harry Styles and make a fool of yourself?”

“I hope Madonna doesn’t hold this against me, and I hope Harry Styles won’t laugh when I fall face first in front of him. I’d rather run into Harry and make a fool of myself.”

“Well that didn’t take long! Why on earth would you pick making a fool of yourself over opening for Madonna??” But James isn’t really surprised much.

“I did answer that too quickly didn’t I? And I dunno, there’s just something about Harry that I think it’d be nice to have a conversation with him, after I apologise for falling down.”

“Wait, you’re the one on the floor and YOU’LL be apologising to HIM??”

“I don’t know!! It’s the polite think to do.”

“You really are something else. But I guess it makes sense you pick Harry. He’s a great guy. Good heart, great looking too don’t you think?”

“He’s handsome, yes!” Y/N starts to gush.

And the way she begins to describe him is like she’s talking about him to her friends. She goes on and on about how nice he must be and how she’s heard nothing but good things. She tells James how she’s looked up to him as a human being since before she got big in the music industry.

“I think he’s just great all around!”

“But you haven’t even met him.” James is sure to dig at this topic, eager to hear what more she has to say about the heartthrob.

“Well I’ve heard loads of stories about how down to earth he is. And I know this sounds crazy, and you probably won’t believe me, but for some reason it’s like I do know him. Or at least like I’ve met him in another life.”

James can’t ignore the glint in her eye as she talked about him, a tone in her voice so sincere he can believe her when she says she feels like she’s met him before. And the way James is looking at her, not in any type of way like he thinks she’s completely bonkers, makes her blush.

“Oh god. James tell me you’ll edit all that out! I will kill you if that airs!”

“Oí, now my life is at stake if I don’t!”

***

When Y/N wakes up to the abnormal ringing from her phone, she doesn’t think much of it. She reaches a hand out and silences the device, not bothering to even glance at the screen. But then the buzzing begins, and she wouldn’t have been bothered if not for the fact that it won’t settle down.

All she really wants to do is sleep. She’s been doing promo non stop for the new album that she’s been looking forward to this day, her schedule clear, the only thing to do for the day is sleep. But seeing as it doesn’t look like she’s gonna get much rest with her phone buzzing like crazy,(and she would turn it off if she hadn’t put an alarm to catch the episode of Carpool Karaoke that she starred in), she reaches over for her phone, the notifications being replaced by the second with new ones.

Her eyes skim her mentions on Twitter, and oh god why!! She just wants to bury herself underneath the blankets and stay there forever. It was one thing to admire Harry Styles, but for the world to know…for Harry to know. She’s never even had a conversation with the guy and now he’s probably gonna think she’s a crazed fan.

She should really call James up and give him an ear full, but it’s out there and no amount of words she yells his way are going to change that. So she turns off her phone instead, now more than ever she needs to take the time to relax and think of how she’s going to avoid ever meeting Harry Styles.

***

Y/N doesn’t much get the chance to go out by herself, whether it be out for a jog or out for a bite, she usually has someone tag along with her. But she’s been feeling the need to have lunch by herself, and enjoy her own company. So when she arrives at the restaurant and sees a swarm of paparazzi across the street, she takes note to maintain her head low and make her way inside as quick as possible, but not once does it cross her mind as to why the irregular amount of photographers. That is until her shoulder clashes with a body too strong to ignore with out looking up to apologise to.

And she opens her mouth, but the words “sorry” don’t seem to come out, they get caught in her throat instead.

“Sorry, M'sorry ‘bout tha’, love.” And he reaches out to touch her shoulder, his hand warm on her skin. But she stays quiet still, a smile on her face.

She offer a smile to say it’s okay, she’s fine, and she’s ready to walk away before Harry calls after her, making her turn around to look at him.

And wow he’s tall. And she’s pictured meeting him a dozen times, but in her mind the situation’s always been hectic, never this casual.

“'Ello.” He gives a small wave, and takes the few steps forward to meet her. He stands hunched in front of her, his arms open at the last few strides, and with out a second thought, he’s engulfing her into a hug, his arms around her waist and his chin set on her shoulder. She can’t do much other than wrap her arms around his neck to welcome his hug. His body is warm on hers, a hug so tight she can’t remember the last time she shared a hug this amazing with anyone.

And Harry knows he’s testing his limits. It’s their first encounter and he’s hugging her like they’ve known each other for ages, but like it might be the only time he ever gets to have his arms around her. So he lingers a bit, smiling into her hair, and he’s glad to feel her relax into him, feel the air leaving her lips on his collarbone as she buries her face into his neck.

Y/N is screaming at herself inside her head. Why is she still not saying anything. She really hopes she doesn’t think she’s being rude, it’s just that she’s completely star struck. But he doesn’t seem bothered or phased by it. Instead he takes it upon himself to make conversation as he smiles down at her.

“Watched ye’ with James the other day.”

And she still doesn’t know what to say, only this time the embarrassment escalates with the addition of her cheeks burning, and she can only imagine how flushed she must look.

Harry only smiles at her reaction, proud at himself for that, but he won’t admit to it. The only reason why James had even brought him up during their ride was because Harry had mentioned Y/N once…maybe twice..or more. And yeah he’d never had a proper conversation with her, but that didn’t mean he didn’t want to meet her. He’d heard amazing things about her, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t watch her in interviews often. So yeah, Harry feels accomplished at the fact that he can make her blush.

“M'honoured tha’ ye’ look up t'me. And that you picked me over Madonna.” He chuckles, giving her a half smirk. Is he trying to make her uncomfortable? She smiles anyway, nodding in shame and averting her eyes to the ground.

“I’d probably be too nervous to open for her anyway.”

“Woah, she talks.” This time a laugh.

And if he felt accomplished before, hearing her laugh makes it even better.

“Was g'na have some lunch on my own. Would rather ye’ join me. Up fo’ it?”

“Would love that, yes.”

So he leads her to a table, his palm on her lower back. And like the gentleman he is, he pulls out her chair for her and then sits directly in front of her.

“For what it’s worth, I’d asked James to cut out the bit where I went on about you.”

“Wha’? Oh tha’ hurts.”

“Oh no no, I just didn’t want that to be a thing.”

“S'okay m'just messin’ with ye’.”

“Oh ha-ha make fun of me. But at least give me credit for not falling face first!”

And Harry laughs at that.

And through out lunch he laughs at all her jokes, and she laughs at his. And he realises he quite enjoys her laugh, and her company. It feels so genuine. And he must admit it’s quite hard to make friends now a days, he usually only frequently hangs out with people he already knows. But he finds himself wanting to go out with Y/N more.

So when lunch is over and they’re getting ready to split ways, he offers her his number and promises to pick up whenever she calls.

Things I Have Been Reading ...(Feb)

This really has been a labour of love because I have tried to post it twice only to have my laptop crash and have to start again!!!

As I have been off work for the past few weeks I have had the pleasure of reading a butt load of fic (I believe that is the technical term).  I have also had some AMAZING recommendations sent over to me and please do keep them coming, feel free to tag me or send a link or send it to me by telepathy (although maybe not the last one because my telepathy skills are a little off atm).  It was quite tricky to narrow down this months list but here are some of my favourite things that I have been reading in February 2017.

P.S. If you make your way through all this and still want something to read then check out @lucifersagents who has been writing the most amazing drabbles and I love each and every one of them!

Supernatural:

A huge thank you for all the SPN recs I’ve got this month! I have found some amazing writers who I hadn’t come across before so please keep them coming or there is a good chance this list will just be Gabe filth.

Pull them Harder@wayward-mirage gifts us all with this amazing Gabriel filth.  As a Gabe girl I have to say this fic gave me several ideas which I will probably never actually get round to writing.

Bringing Tidings Of Joy@bkwrm523 has written this fantastic little series and I urge all Gabe girls to pay special attention to part 2 before going having a cold shower.

While You Were Gone @luci-in-trenchcoats has killed me this this fic.  I haven’t got the words to describe how amazingly sweet and adorable this is a fantastic insight into Dean that warmed my heart.

You - @eyes-of-a-disney-princess is a writer who has recently come to my attention and from what I have read so far I expect great things.  This bit of Dean smut is fantastic and please feel free to make your way through her masterlist!

Off Limits –   @dancingalone21  I cannot begin to tell you how much I adore this fic, it is super cute and the relationship between Sam and Dean is brilliant.

Winchesters Don’t Giggle –  @rizlowwritessortof I read this a while back and it made me smile like an idiot.  I do love the softer side of Dean.

Research –  @nichelle-my-belle Here is another writer I have only just found but after making my way through her masterlist is definitely on my favourites list! This Sam smut is amazing and you should go follow her and read all the stuff!

Unexpected@percywinchester27 After reading this I want to have Sams babies. Lovely and fluffy and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Marvel:

So as you can see this list is quite Steve/Bucky heavy so if you come across ANY other marvel fics that you think I should read PLEASE let me know. I love Steve and Buck but I’m a sucker for the underappreciated characters.

Not Over You@amarvelouswritings This series is killing me a little but in a totally good way.

Try Again@promarvelfangirl A fine example of the breaking up and getting back together genre beautifully written and I may have had a stupid grin on my face quite a bit when reading this one.

Dirty Minded Cap – Steve - @fvckingsteverogers As a Steve/Chris girl I have no idea how I have not found this blog sooner but here is another masterlist I will be pouring over.  This Steve smut made me all tingly in my lady parts and I think I’ve found another favourite blog!

Homesick @thorne93 I have been reading this series from the very first part and as always my girl here has schooled me in the art of writing.  The fabulousness of series like this is why I don’t really write series because the bar is set really high x

What This Was@amarvelouswritings  THIS SERIES IS AWESOME AND I CAN’T WAIT FOR MORE AND I WANT TO BE ON HER FOREVER TAG LIST BECAUSE EVERYTHING I HAVE READ OF HERS IS AMAZING!  Sorry, fangirling a little there but in all seriousness, you should go follow her.

Screwed - @just-call-me-mrs-captain  It is entirely possible that I binge read this entire series and squealed several times.  Bucky is so brilliantly written here, go read it now!

Hallelujah –  @bovaria brings you a bit of Bucky angst for you all.  You may want to get a box of tissues handy before you start this one, you have been warned.

I think she likes you@emilyevanston I am feeling the whole coffeeshop AU thing right now and as someone who adores nerdy Nat this fic is super sweet.  The interactions between Bucky and Clint are brilliant and I pretty much had a grin on my face all the way through reading this one.

Exs and Ohs –  @civilwarkilledme I feel there should be more T’Challa, especially if this is what is created!

Star Trek:

I’m a little light on Trek fics (possibly because I’ve been drowning in the Steve/Bucky trash) so send me your recs and hopefully they will make my list!!!

Carnival Fun@atari-writes creates a lovely version of the gorgeous doctor in this fic and I absolutely loved it.

Stop Apologizing@kaitymccoy123 a super sweet bit of Bones here.  It’s all fluffy and awkward and really cute.

More Than You Know and The One by @imamotherfuckingstar-lord are two amazing bits of the lovely Captain. A beautiful little fic and an wonderful series that are well worth a read but then again she is one of my favourite writers and I would put everything she writes on this list if I thought I could get away with it.

Other Fandoms and Fics:

Love and Spiders@little-red-83.  So I fully admit I’m a Fili girl and this adorable little fic crossed my path a while back and I thought it was super cute and super sweet and as someone who is terrified of spiders this would be something I would do. Plus @little-red-83 is my tumblr twin so go check out her work.

Sleepy –  @chrisevans-imagines I am a total sucker for a daddy Chris Evans fic right now and this one is super cute.

Treat You Better  - @dont-hate-relate-pls has written this beautiful almost heartbreaking little fic about the lovely Rob Benedict and she writes him so well I can hear his voice in my head as I read it.

Let Me Show You @wayward-mirage is a writing genius who I adore and her Mark Pelligrino fics like this one are absolutely sublime.  Go follow her and show her a little love.

Donnie x Reader - @totally-turtle-imagines this is a really sweet little imagine about how super cute, fluffy and awkward Donnie can be.

Sharpie Promises @another-tmnt-writer.  This Soulmate AU is adorable and the unsure, insecure side of Raph just makes me want to give him a hug.  I am really enjoying seeing what this fandom and this blog has to offer. Also check out Hold Me for an extra slice of @another-tmnt-writer’s Raph.

Scandal 6x10 - Alternate Reality

Hello world. For the past 29 hours I have been glued to my tv, rewatching this scandal episode that I feel I have memorized verbatim but every time I watch it I see something new or different that I didn’t pick up on from the last rewatch. But my heart is open and filled with love as Shonda dedicated this episode to our star crossed lover, Olivia and Fitz.

Me coming out of my room after remaining in seclusion. I feel lightheaded.

This episode was fundamental to the core of Scandal and what the story has always been, the evolution of Olivia Pope and her quest for life. This alternate reality did not disappoint me but left me optimistic and thoroughly sedated. For so long we have watched Olivia fall from grace that at times it appears as though we are looking at a stranger, but we are seeing a change, a slight turn on her axis. Bless you Shonda, for this episode. I never doubted the story or the quest to live a open, honest life.

Now. Let us say our Pledge of the Allegiance.

I pledge allegiance to United States of Olitz and to the republic for which is stands. One nation under Shonda indivisible with jam and love for all. Amen

We start the episode off with Olivia, Fitz and Jake in the oval. Fitz is trying to come up with a plan to free Cyrus but Jake is currently attempting to thwart his plan considering it’s something they all want, Mellie to be President. But is that necessarily true though considering Abby told Jake in 602 that she knows he doesn’t want Mellie to win. *hint hint* besides who actually wants to win an election that way and Fitz knows that they want Mellie in the White House for a reason otherwise why kill Vargas. Real Bitch and Penis did not stoop to those lengths just to support their fellow white lady. Nothing about this is right, hence Fitz wearing the light shirt and appeasing to Olivia’s former self about doing the right thing whereas we have Stevie Wonder appeasing to Olivia’s current side hence the dark shirt. A very obvious play of both good and evil, light and dark and of course the love triangle. Stuck between the two men she’s been entangled with for a few years; and her lack substance in her gut Olivia is torn as if doing the right thing will be all that right. Olivia begins to side with Fitz but the second she does Jake attempts to bring them both down about ‘something he knew 3 hours ago’

Hoe, how did yo Stevie Wonder ass tell time? Anyways ..ugh Jake brings up Defiance being a good thing and completely ignores Olivia’s obvious discomfort and pain regarding that ordeal that took place 8 years ago. Fitz looks to Olivia for back up but she rebuffs and begins to talk about Huck dying and how many more people have to get hurt, but Fitz isn’t agreeing with Olivia or Jake regarding them doing nothing and before he leaves he tells Olivia and Jake that he needs to know whether they are 'in or out’.

With Fitz out of the office, Jake turns to Olivia and ignores her pain but begins to talk about how life would have been much worse for Fitz had Olivia not the rigged election all the while Olivia’s head is bowed in evident sorrow for all the pain she has caused to Fitz and herself. But before Jake walks out he reminds Olivia that her life would have also been worse too had she not rigged election. Cue the dream

But as Olivia flashbacks to the past, most of her prolific memories are shaped around Fitz. We see the most memorable moments for Olivia, good and bad.

Back on the plane with the original illuminati…I feel nostalgic at the sight of Hollis and that old hag Verna. Ugh. My heart’s feeling all warm and fuzzy. But as we all know in real life Olivia said ’ yes’ but in the alternate reality she says:

‘No. We are not fixing the election. Fitz can win. He can do this. He can turn this around. And when asked about them losing Olivia says 'At least we lose with our souls intact.’

Wow. Olivia believes in Fitz that he can win. But we know how this story ends and it ends with Fitz losing and Olivia being ashamed and heartbroken that she could have won this for Fitz and she chose to let him fall. Mellie makes sure to rub it in Olivia’s face about all she had to say was ’yes’ and so ironic how Olivia has used that same word when she declared her love for Fitz. But anyways, Olivia is feeling the pain and you can see her clearly wondering if she made the right decision at all. Now we know Olivia enjoys carrying the weight and burden but this wasn’t her fault especially not in this world. But. It Hurts nonetheless .

Olivia is trying to escape and act as if she doesn’t hear Fitz calling her name, but she stops and tells Fitz she wrote him a letter saying she’s sorry for not winning the presidency for him. A letter, Olivia . Really? I understand you are hurt and you would rather do what you have always done, which is run. But don’t you think Fitz is deserving of a goodbye or an answer even one as painful as the truth? But Fitz tells Olivia that she didn’t let him down, and while America didn’t chose him, she can.

Excuse me for a minute.

Okay. I’m back. But barely breathing. Olivia being Olivia bypasses Fitz’s request and tells him that she is going to Washington to help Marcus Walker get a criminal justice bill passed. Puppy eyes and lips quivers couldn’t begin to describe the yearning those two people feel every time they have to part. Fitz wishes Olivia good luck and Olivia wishes Fitz good luck with Mellie. Olivia leaves Fitz dejected and broken hearted . My eyes hurt from the light of their love, and my heart breaks for the star crossed lovers, and my thirst is finally being quenched after such a long olitz drought that I am edematous.

Olivia

Two months later after breaking up with Fitz, Olivia appears to be trying to fix herself by doing what she does best, staying busy working. Abby, Marcus and even Hobo Huck are all at Olivia’s workshop. It’s old, ugly and so very unlike our Olivia yet you can see the joy that she has with owning something that belongs to her and she’s not some boujee D.C. Girl like she is today. She’s humble and appreciative of the hardwork they have put in to create this. Beautiful. That’s pretty refreshing but I will tell you what’s not and that is Olivia dating Leo. Yup I threw up in my mouth at the idea of them….but another parallel to help dig the knife even deeper into olakers heart is the fact that our Olivia did this exact same thing with Jake after Fitz found out about defiance. She went on a date and shared a bit here and there but deep down it doesn’t erase Fitz, in reality or alternate reality, Olivia can’t escape the inevitable that is Fitzgerald Grant. Wherever she goes, he is always with her.

The only difference about Olivia’s date with Jake and her would be date with Leo is that Fitz showed up for her and stopped her from making a mistake. So you see olakers it wasn’t necessarily Jake that was special it could have been ANYBODY even Leo! And before I hand olakers the final dagger, let me say that Olivia created this alternate world, and not once did she dream of Jake being in it. Olivia wishes she never met Jake, she wishes Fitz would have came to her and stopped her date like he did with Leo.

Freshly defeated, Fitz shows up at Olivia’s apartment ready to ask for her hand in marriage. Unlike our scandal time we’re we see these two people both yearning to be with one another but because of time and circumstance they are always parted. Not in this world. Fitz isn’t going to wait to be with Olivia, he’s ready to be out in the open with her. Fitz showed up for Olivia even in her dream, he came back for her and stood on her doorstep telling her that he’s just a ex presidential candidate asking his campaign manager to love him, and do him the honor of becoming his wife because he’s so desperately in love with her and if she ’loves me half as much as I love you then it was worth the trip’

As Fitz professes his love for Olivia, softly in the background their song plays. 'Will You Still love me’ the same song played when Olivia was arrested for releasing Rowan and we watched Olivia silently beg Fitz to still love her in spite of her short comings.

There is a reason why that song was played. Olivia was at her worse at the time and yet she still desperately wanted Fitz to see her and love her even though she was unable to love herself at the moment. Fitz’s is requesting the same of Olivia except much different circumstances. But the message is evident and by the shutting of Olivia’s elevator door just as Fitz had shut the door on them. But in this world, they don’t give up. They Fight. Olivia quickly opens the door and said ‘yes’ faintly with such overwhelming love pouring through her. The proposal is everything and more but again the one word Mellie said earlier comes back, all Olivia has to do is say ’yes’. Something she has failed to do often in her current life, and not to mention Shonda’s subtle mention of her own book. Yes.

@dontfrget  pic

I cannot begin to describe the joy still festering in my heart at the sight of Olivia following her heart instead of listening to her head, the unsurmountable joy radiating from her. Seldom does Olivia make such drastic choices without thinking it over but this time she went full force something she was unable to do in the real world out of fear.

The parallels are uncanny Mellie told Olivia in the beginning she just had to say 'one word’ and like in our realm of scandal when Olivia said ’yes’ to being Fitz’s mistress and effectively ending Fitz’s and Mellie’s marriage. Olivia done did it again, by saying yes to Fitz’s proposal. And we see Mellie lurking in the shadows at their wedding but she’s clearly over Fitz and not jealous of Olivia.
I’m sorry my pettiness is flaring up. But Olivia stays ruining Mellie’s life by getting her own life. You go girl with yo natural hair and backpack wearing self.

Now, back to Olivia and Fitz screwing the world so they could make their own.

@bananadome pic

Me watching olitz get it on. The whimpers. The moans. The eye contact.

Reunited and it feels so good. Ladies and Gentleman Fitz and Olivia are floating in space. Olivia done magically grabbed them keys from her purse and opened the door and left everything else behind. Olivia literally left her baggage behind but does that actually mean she left it behind? Yes and no. More on that later

Can I just say that I love that Olivia dreamt of all this. She dreamt of Fitz showing up and being her beacon of light and good. While Olivia has Huck, it doesn’t replace the hearts hunger for love and affection that can’t be suppressed. When the heart speaks it speaks. The attention to detail is a thing of beauty, Shonda truly out did herself with this episode, perfectly layering Olivia and Fitz’s relationship, once again reminding the audience and Olivia and Fitz that their love is real. For so long we have seen Olivia yearning but never actually tasting the sweetness that life could bring, the joy she will find in being ordinary, the fulfillment of reaching her goals without losing herself and the one she loves. This is the tender epilogue that these two souls deserves. They have suffered enough at the hands of others and themselves, it is time for Olivia to start claiming her life and taking it in her own hands.

The wedding

@dontfrget

We see Olivia in the dressing room with just Huck as they get ready for the wedding and Huck cut his hair and trimmed his beard for Olivia’s wedding.(don’t cry. Don’t cry, okay cry) you can see the wedding jitters plastered  on both of their faces but Olivia walks to Huck and gets him ready for their big day.

@dontfrget

As they walk another olitz’s greatest hit plays in the background. ‘You’re All I Need To Get By.’ This song was a turning point for Olivia and Fitz’s relationship, were Fitz finally earned Olivia and Olivia was accepting of being earned. The crowd is around her but all she can see is him standing there waiting for her. Olivia doesn’t appear frightened or scared about getting married but joyfully moved at the man waiting for her to cross over on the other side. Yes, he is all she needs to get by.

They exchange vows with their eyes remaining focused only on each other. With the chapel filled with roses we have set the scene to their very own rose garden. The church is filled with gold, roses, and lights that you get this feeling that this must be heaven.

@dontfrget

Rowan’s clearly not happy with there union even in the alternate reality just as much as it displeases him in reality. The fact that Olivia chose love over power is an enlightening moment. Olivia is giving herself the life she genuinely wants and is becoming the person she feels she could be with Fitz by her side with Rowan staying in the shadows. Who would have known how much Olivia would have changed had Rowan never influenced her.

A year into their marriage and Oliva and Fitz are still happy and very much in love; with Oliva wearing Fitz’s navy shirt these two are still newlyweds with Olivia keeping count of how many times Fitz brings her to climax. I know Olivia took that navy shirt with her when she left the White House, there’s no possible way she could have left without taking a piece of him with her.

Even though Olivia and Fitz are married; Olivia still has her commitment issues as evident by her lack of compromise on moving and Fitz being lazy with his lack of effort in everything; but one thing is certain which is Olivia still feels the calling to be more, to create a name for herself, to be somebody whereas Fitz is looking to be a nobody.

Olivia wants to get this bill passed but because Fitz isn’t President in this realm and she thereby has no real power and knows any of the Washington elite Olivia is once again powerless, a feeling she hates to her core especially when she has to watch her husband with all the power vested in him be a reporter instead of a leader that she knew he could have been had she rigged the election. Oh Olivia and Fitz.

We don’t need to see Mellie and Cyrus and their pretense marriage and I began to ask questions about how Jake met Fitz and why now and most importantly I bet Rowan has him following Olivia and Fitz but I’m not going to do that because it’s not real and Olivia obviously doesn’t care about jake or even find him to be even equivalent to a boyfriend or stranger. So I shall keep it moving. Jake’s involvement is minimal to none and that’s why this episode is perfect.

Ironic that Olivia has made a point to separate herself from the people she’s been the closest too and the people who tend to bring out the worse in her (Rowan, Mellie, Jake) versus the people she’s been the most distant with yet represent her moral values ( Marcus, Abby, Fitz) oh Shonda the subtle messages you are delivering in this episode has left me completely and utterly flabbergasted. Even subconsciously Olivia is aware that associating with her dad and Jake bring out the worse in her, which is why this episode is refreshing to see, Olivia is aware of the moves being played around her  but in this realm because she is not morally compromised and is wearing the white hat she associates herself with the people who do as well. Olivia is basking in the glow of light and love my friends.

Olivia with Marcus…where’s Harrison! Okay. Anyways. Olivia finds OPA and she buys it without Fitz knowing. Now, I’m not saying Olivia needs Fitz’s approval but in a marriage their is this thing called respect and communication something even in this realm Olivia and Fitz still lack. You talk with your spouse, you communicate your plans and desires with your spouse and not leave them flying in the wind. Fitz made sure to make note that Olivia wasn’t okay with buying a house but totally okay with  buying OPA. Different reality but still the same damn olitz. Even married Olivia still suffers from commitment issues and taking the next step toward the unknown.

Sidenote: can I just say that I think it’s really cute how excited Olivia is to be in the oval versus now. Our Olivia walks around the oval like she owns the place and she partially does but this Olivia is able to appreciate it in a way our Olivia never has. And Olivia taking a selfie with JFK’s poster is the cutest thing ever but unfortunately as her and Marcus wait and wait for the President they quickly see that it was a mishap and they are never granted entry into the oval. Such a sour yet profound moment for Olivia. She wants power, she wants to make a difference but she is tied.

Upset and dejected Olivia comes home to see Fitz wasting away his potential with a glass of scotch. Oh this is going to hurt, the two begin to talk around one another like Olivia normally does when she doesn’t want to fight but ends up going for the gutter…*cough 509* …*cough breakup scene* Olivia and Fitz are having the same fight they had during the breakup, Fitz being selfished, Olivia constantly hiding, and the unforgettable blows under the belt they exchange.

Olivia references the ’big dog’ again, how she looks at Fitz and she doesn’t recognize him anymore but Fitz can’t live with the fact that he failed Olivia not Olivia failing him. Fitz drinking this much is never a good sign. The thing about Olivia and Fitz is that when things are good they are great but when it’s bad; it’s bad. Fitz fills his glass of scotch while asking Olivia if she’s screwing Marcus since he knows it’s not him. Olivia fires back by telling Fitz he never had a chance of winning and that he was ’unelectable. Grant for the people? Pathetic.’

Always one for perfect timing; Olivia found that after insulting her husband she should then confess that the reason they are miserable is because she opted not to fix the election  and she is the only person who could have given him the presidency.

I’m not sure what Olivia was thinking telling Fitz this now, oh I know it’s called self sabotage something Olivia does frequently and the most recent being after her abortion. She creates these near impossible situations to come out unscathed just with the hopes of being able to walk away from it all. Olivia plants these moments of destruction because it is much easier to be the one leaving versus being the one left. Fitz tells Olivia she should have rigged the election and Olivia is shocked at hearing Fitz say those words but she tells him “you wouldn’t have want to win that way.” Fitz disagrees and Olivia tells him that defiance would have destroyed them but it seems that they have done that already with Fitz’s final words being ’ at least I would have been President.’ Won’t lie I was pretty nervous at this point. This was the 509 fight all over again and I found myself having flashbacks and ptsd of that unforgettable episode.

Five months later

Olivia and Fitz are still together but are they really? Everything about them is cold and distant. Big sigh and deep breath.

Instead of focusing on politics Fitz is now interviewing Lindsey aka Quinn aka the  bachelorette. The idea of having to lower himself to such standards and with Olivia’s words echoing in his head about being pathetic. Yeah. This is bad. And with Olivia’s Bill headed to the floor she is gaining the power without the help of the White House, showing that it is possible to have power and not lose your soul but one part still remains, will she and Fitz get through this together? And with Abby handing Olivia her divorce papers. The chances of them coming out of this together are slim.

Olivia isn’t playing games, she is getting her life and leaving Fitz behind. It is safe to say that one way or another Olivia was going to make a name for herself but the thing is that being on the top alone isn’t all that fun when you don’t have anybody to share it with, welcome Abby. Abby is forever Olivia’s voice of reason and truth(4x10)  and it still saddens me how low Olivia stooped with slapping Abby and treating her the way she did when she clearly holds her to such high esteem. Olivia brings up Abby and David being happily married, but Abby tells Olivia that she never gave Fitz a chance, and she honestly never has. Whenever Fitz falls from her ridiculously high pedestal instead of lowering the legs and waiting for him to get back up she runs or makes excuses as to why they will never work. Before leaving, Abby reminds Olivia why she is still living in her apartment. Woah.  In their current realm Fitz didn’t ask Olivia to move in to the White House but just took it upon himself, whereas this Fitz asked and pleaded and Olivia opted to stay put arguing that it was too big and cost too much. In both realities Olivia always had one foot out the door, she never gave them a chance.

Olivia has some resentment over losing the election and having to watch Fitz chose being a celebrity over being a hero, for chosing that lifestyle over her and their shared ideas and politics that were so fundamental to who they were and who they strived to be. Regardless of time or the exact definition of their relationship, Olivia and Fitz always seem to connect through politics and the ideals they envisioned. ( ex. Brandon Bill) their relationship was at one of its most tumultuous moments with Fitz going to war to bring Olivia back. It was that bill that connected them once again and Olivia was remind of the man she voted for. It must be hard a pill to swallow for Olivia and Fitz as they move in perpendicular roads . Fitz needs his ass kicked that’s for sure but stick around Olivia to receive your reward otherwise someone else will. * cough Angela* *cough Quinn*

Quinn came into Fitz’s trailer to sleep with him and all I kept thinking was ‘don’t do this Fitz’. Don’t repeat Amanda Tanner cause this time you will actually be the father and Quinn would put you on child support before your pants drop. But Fitz and Quinn kiss and soon we find Quinn on her knees…yup…Amanda tanner style. The camera pans to Fitz looking at himself in the mirror as he attempts to drink his pain away but it doesn’t work and he sends Quinn away but somewhat sobered he sees his reflection in the mirror again and this time it’s stick. It’s a chilling sight to see but a much needed moment of reflection as he looks at the stranger staring back at him.

Mellie and Cyrus staged marriage comes to a climax where Mellie once again finds herself on the losing end, having been betrayed by Cyrus and Rowan who I’m ignoring throughout this episode. Mellie having been deflated goes to OPA to meet Olivia and tell her once in for all that she was right about defiance and she hates admitting that Olivia was right about defiance destroying Fitz. The parelles and tone of this monologue. Mellie confessed that she did what she thought she had to do in order to win and now she is trapped and being controlled by Rowan and Cyrus the same way Olivia is being controlled by Rowan in our current scandal. Agreeing to defiance, Olivia did what she deemed necessarily but now she is the one trapped. One of the good things that came out of not committing voter fraud was saving not only her soul but Fitz’s soul which is ultimately what hurted Olivia the most about Defiance. Hurting Fitz hurts Olivia.

Discussing Sally’s husband’s extra martial affair with James and the ’life of pretending’ On the air Fitz stops mid sentence and walks away. Fitz had been pretending for so long in our scandal realm that he forgot at one time what it meant to actually feel. Remember, pretending is real. Fitz walking off the set is setting the tone that he no longer wants to pretend, he’s ready.

Fitz comes home to a clearly pondering Olivia. Immediately Fitz tells Olivia the truth that he didn’t want the election, that he never wanted anything in life until he meet her. Cue the Olitz anthem ’the light ’. I just want to reiterate that Fitz has said this before, Rowan even acknowledge Fitz being a spoiled rich white boy who never worked for anything but found Olivia and was suddenly ready to be a man. This is true. Olivia showed Fitz the man he could be, the man he aspired to become with her by his side. While Olivia helped Fitz turn into a man, Fitz gave Olivia the freedom to love, and she does.

Fitz’s monologue is a thing of beauty but this wasn’t just entirely Fitz talking. This was Olivia. Fitz said everything Olivia has wanted to say but could never bring herself to speak aloud.

“Saying no to defiance was the right choice. I know that now. You tried to give me freedom. You tried to give me the chance to find happiness and I squandered it. That was on me. Only me. That’s why I’m sorry. I hadn’t  recognized it. I didn’t understand it.  I wasn’t thinking. It took me far too long to realize …. I have things to figure out. I have work, a lot of work to due; if there’re any hope of becoming the man I know I can be. The man you deserve. I still want you Olivia, if you’ll still have me.”

Olivia hands Fitz papers and Fitz timidly opens them expecting it to be divorce papers but it’s actually an ad of their soon to be Georgetown complex. Fitz picked Vermont for them and Olivia picked Georgetown. You see, unlike 509 where they broke up and went their separate ways, here in this world Olivia is claiming her life and ready to put forth the work and work towards creating a better life for her and Fitz, the life they deserve. In this world instead of fighting each other they hope to fight for one another. There is something unequivocally satisfying at watching Olivia finally seeing the life and light she’s been so afraid to have and to finally know now that it’s possible. Olivia doesn’t have to sell her soul for power and sacrifice love in order to be victorious. Olivia can claim the life she wants, if she is willing to fight for it.

Now that Olivia has found the key, she comes back from her dream with the biggest smile on her face as she once again leaves her baggage behind to find Fitz but this time I think the baggage might stay away. Olivia walking out the oval and leaving behind her pursue and coat and other possessions signifies this significant change inside her, now all of her worldly possessions me nothing to her without him by her side. The power, the money, the jewels are all an illusion that kept her from seeing the truth. Love. This episode is only about love. Olivia has denied herself this amazing love for so long and it seems that it is just now hitting her what it truly means. Love comes with setbacks and downfalls, you won’t always be happy but at least you know you have someone to fall back on if you fall.

But as Olivia walks through the corridor, she’s not exactly walking to Fitz but she’s running to him with such joy and vigor at what her life seems to have foretold. The mood is infectious and I feel we all have found ourselves rooting for Olivia and her pursuit of happiness as she runs to the balcony to find Fitz alone and at the same spot where she last confessed her love and desire to start a real relationship with him (4x22) . The balcony is a significant monument to Olivia and Fitz, it was here that Olivia came to Fitz after she removed her father (temporarily) from her life to create a new one with Fitz. As the camera pans on Olivia; we see her staring adoringly at Fitz with those little specks of light in her eyes. With this new found glow and light it is obvious that Olivia is feeling this extraordinary surge of love for Fitz and from Fitz. My God Olivia is in love and it feels as though she is just now realizing just how profound her love for him and the possibility of them is. Turning to Fitz she smiles at him happily as she tells him “I’m in.”  And she’s not just referring to Cyrus being exonerated but she’s ’in’ with him. Olivia is ’in’ her right frame of mind, she’s ’in’ love with Fitz, and she’s ’in’ this to win it. Olivia Pope is ’in’. I do not see Olivia making a complete 360 overnight but this is promising episode leading to a more satisfying ending.

For the first time in quite some time Olivia felt a tangible sensation she swore she lost long ago.

Hope.

anonymous asked:

What was Jefferson's relationship with his wife like?

Thomas Jefferson in his own thoughts and words, did not believe his life had started until he met his wife. In Martha “Patty” Wayles Skelton, Thomas Jefferson found a woman who spoke his language. She was five and half years younger than her new husband and she was beautiful, musically inclined, well-read–he adored her. Patty and Thomas both shared tastes in literature and wife-ranging conversation. One described the Jeffersons “A couple… well calculated and disposed to communicate knowledge and pleasure.” Their nights were filled with music, wine and talk–they talked of everything. He confided in her about politics. A granddaughter recalled of Patty’s “passionate attachment” to Jefferson and her “exalted opinion of him.”Jefferson’s “conduct as a husband had been admirable in its ensemble, charming in its detail.”

“But it was always so with him,” Mrs. Jefferson is said to have remarked, “he is so good himself, that he cannot understand how bad other people may be.” Mr. Jefferson once gently rebuked her for reminding eldest daughter, Patsy, of an old childhood crime. “My dear, a fault in so young a child once punished should be forgotten.” Patty had a temper but in her relationship with her husband, was “completely subdued by her exceeding affection for him.” Patty could reassure and clam her husband, who was given to worry and restlessness. Easing Thomas Jefferson’s emotional tension was a difficult task, one that she was fluent in.

Jefferson undertook legal work for John Wayles (father of Patty) beginning in 1768. The widow immediately was appealing to Jefferson. At first it was a pursuit in which he worked for and by 1771, he was in full press. He wrote a romantic and poetical description of her to a correspondent. A pair of competing suitors once arrived at the Forest (the Wayles’s plantation), where they heard Patty and Thomas playing and singing beautifully together. Looking at one another, the two callers were said to have recognized the inevitable and departed without announcing themselves (Meacham 56). Jefferson was determined to to have her and to five her the best of everything.

Thomas Jefferson married Martha Wayles Skelton on New Year’s day 1772. He was twenty-eight; she was twenty-three. The Anglican ceremony was held at her father’s house and the celebrations ran for several days. On their marriage license, dated December 20, 1771, Jefferson mistakenly referred to her as a “spinster” and crossed it out and inserted “widow”. Their first child, Martha, nicknamed Patsy, was born at one in the morning of Sunday, September 27th, 1772. The Jeffersons remained at the Forest for some day before setting out for Monticello through ever-worsening snowy weather. As they approached for Monticello through worsening snowy weather. As they approached Shadwell (Jefferson’s childhood home) and Monticello, the snow had grown too deep for their phaeton to continue. He and Patty then got on horseback and pressed on through the forest, wind, ice, snow and gathering darkness (Meacham 58). A sunset, they began their ascent, slowly and miserably taking the mountain’s 867 feet. When the arrived, they were found unexpected and the fires were out. Their was a bottle of wine left out.

After a week or so they moved on to Elk Hill which belonged to Patty. Patty Jefferson was a careful housekeeper. She saw to fresh supplies of meat, eggs, butter and fruit; while also supervising the making of beer and soap. She personally directed the work of the kitchen on more sophisticated foods. “Mrs. Jefferson would come out there with a cookery book in her hand and read out of it to Isaac’s mother how to make cakes, tarts and so on,” recalled Isaac Granger Jefferson, a slave of Monticello. A German officer, founding the Jeffersons charming and engaging. Patty Jefferson gave birth to a second daughter on Sunday, April 3rd, 1774. She was named Jane Jefferson. Jefferson proved an attentive husband and father. His book notes that purchase of “breast pipes” glass devices that were used in the breastfeeding of infants. Martha’s account book tracks her daily work, including supervising the slaughter of ducks, turkeys, hogs, sheep and lambs. She also managed the slaves in the household.

After taking leave of his duties, Thomas spent much of September 1775 at Monticello with his family. Tragically, their daughter Jane at only a year and a half, died. After her loss, his letters home were marked with an almost obsessive concern for Patty and little Patsy (Meacham 93). Arriving back in Philadelphia, Jefferson returned to his work, but his mind was still on Patty. It was during this time that he confided with her on political matters. Patty fell ill and all he got in return was silence with no word from her. Tuesday, October 31st, 1775, he was even more worried: “I have set apart nearly one day in every week since I came here to write letters”. Eight day later he was desperate: “I have never received the scrip of a pen from any moral in Virginia since I left it, nor been able by any enquirers I could make to hear of my family”. Topped with the overwhelming anxiety of a possible British invasion of Virginia; he was beset from each side. Jefferson made plans for Patty and his family to escape in the event of violence, plans that included his joining them in presumably safe territory. He began to think of inoculating his family against smallpox.

Patty stayed in Virginia and due to her health, she was unable to travel. “I am here in the same uneasy anxious state in which I was the last fall without Mrs. Jefferson who would not come with me.” In 1776, with Jefferson at work in the Continental Congress, Patty suffered a miscarriage. Thomas was unable to rest easy about his wife, desperately watching out for letters from her hand. Jefferson hated not hearing, and he feared the worst. Patty Jefferson was a good and loving wife. Jefferson’s own sisters fells for Patty as well, “she commanded his respect by her good sense and domestic virtue, and his admiration and love by her wit, her vivacity, and her agreeable person and manners. Drawn to public life, he still longed to be home with her family. His wife’s health remained such a concern that Jefferson sought to leave Philadelphia to return to Patty in Virginia: “I receive by every post such accounts of the state of Mrs. Jefferson’s health, that it will be impossible for me to disappoint her expectation of seeing me and the time I have promised, which supposed my leaving this place on the 11th of next month.” Jefferson wrote Richard Henry Lee, begging him to relieve him of his duty.

Finally, Jefferson was relieved and rode from Philadelphia to Monticello in early autumn of 1776. He was relived to be with his wife and with Patsy. He spent his non-working hours with his family. Though, Jefferson faced another decision, the congress requested reliable men to represent America’s interests in France and elected a delegation to go to Paris to make an alliance between the France and the Americans. One was Thomas Jefferson and he asked his messenger to await his reply. Given to Patty’s health, she could not go to France. Thomas gave his choice–he would not go. May 28th, 1777, Patty gave birth to a son. The little boy only lived seventeen days. If they gave him a name, it is not recorded. Patty was soon pregnant again. August 1st, 1778, she gave birth to a daughter, Mary “Polly” Jefferson.

Despite her illness and pregnancies, Patty Jefferson reminded resilient and recorded the domestic details of life at Monticello in an account book. When governor of Virginia in 1781, the British troops began moving towards Richmond on Friday, January 5th. Robert Hemings and James Hemings drove Patty and the rest of the Jefferson family to safety at a piece of property Jefferson owned on Fine Creek, west of the capital. Lucy Elizabeth, born six months prior, died at about ten in the morning in April 1781. Jefferson chose to stay with Patty the next week after the death, declining to attend a meeting of the state council (Meacham 137). When the British marched on Monticello he summoned a carriage for his family and sent them to a nearby plantation for safety. Jefferson caught up with the family much later and they sought refuge at Polar Forest. Patty soon added a new member to the family; Lucy Elizabeth, after the sister who had recently died. Her condition was terrible, but it only worsened.

Martha “Patty” Jefferson was dying. By early summer 1782, she was confined to her bed. Days passed to months and Jefferson “was never out.” He was either at her bed or in a small room nearby that opened onto hers. “Her eyes ever rested on him, ever followed him.” According to family, “When he spoke, no other sound could reach her ear of attract her attention. When she waked from slumber she looked momentarily alarmed and distressed, and even appeared to be frightened, if the customary form was not bending over her, the customary look upon her.” She had the strength enough to begin writing some lines from Sterne–they were from Tristram Shady–on a small piece of paper.

Time wastes too fast: every letter

I trace tells me with what rapidity

Life follows my pen. The days and hours

Of it are flying over our heads like

Clouds of windy day never return–

More every thing presses on–

She faded at this point and Thomas finished the passage for her:

And ever

Time I kiss thy hand to bid adieu, every absence which

Follow it, are preludes to that eternal separation

Which we are shortly to make!

Sterne’s message here is tragic, unrelenting so, for even moments of human communion and love are seen not as fulfilling in themselves but ephemeral: a stark yet realistic vision of life. Nearly noon on Friday, September 6th, 1782, when the end arrived. “When she came to the children, she wept and could not speak for some time. Finally she held up her hand, and… told him she could not die happy if she thought her… children were ever to have a stepmother brought in over them.” Patty was only thinking of her children and their happiness. At a quarter to twelve on that Friday, Patty Jefferson died. In the final moments, Thomas’s sister Martha Carr had to help the grieving husband from his wife’s bedside. He was “in a state of insensibility”, when she got him out of the room and to the library, where he fainted. Thomas stayed unconscious for such an extended period of time that they all feared he would not wake.

When he did some to, he was incoherent and surrendered to grief and possibly–rage. The is a hint that he lost all control in the calamity of Patty’s death. According to Patsy, “The scene that followed I did not witness… but the violence of his emotion, when, almost by stealth, I entered his room by night, to this day I dare not describe to myself.” He kept in his room for three weeks and “walked incessantly night and day, only laying down occasionally, when nature was completely exhausted, on a pallet that had been brought in during his long fainting fits.” The Jefferson sisters even came. He could not remain still and would ride out on horseback, “rambling” and venturing on the least worn paths. “In those melancholy rambled I was his constant companion–a solitary witness to many a burst of grief, the remembrance of which had consecrated particular scenes of that lost home beyond the power of time to obliterate.”

There were rumors that he was nearing madness. “Martha Jefferson… intermarried with Thomas Jefferson January 1st, 1772; torn from him by death September 6th, 1782″ was a part of what was written on her grave stone. A month later, he alluded that he was suicidal: “This miserable existence is really too burdensome to be borne,” he wrote, “and were it not for the infidelity of deserting the sacred charge left me, I could not wish its continuance a moment.” His world seemed to have died with Patty, “All my plans of comfort and happiness revered by a single event and nothing answering in prospect before me but a gloom unbrightened with one cheerful expectation,” he wrote his sister-in-law Elizabeth Eppes. He would endure life for Patsy, Polly and Lucy. “I will endeavor to… keep what I feel to myself that I may not dispirit you from a communication with us,” he told. “I say nothing of coming to Eppington because I promised you this should not be till I could support such a countenance as might not cast a damp on the cheerfulness of others.”

In this period of blinding grief, he burnt everything and anything that reminded him of his late wife. Almost every letter ever written, every portrait and most everything in her hand was tossed to the flames as if an effort to erase the fact she was ever event there–this erasing gesture did not prevail. Later offered again the position as Ambassador to France, he quickly excepted–wishing to get away from Monticello and out of the shadow of a woman. During the 1790s, he would rebuild Monticello and the place where they used to live together. Thomas Jefferson kept his promise to his wife and he never married.

Hello! I was just wondering if you have any ideas on """dale pike's""" Within the Narrative? I don't know what to think of it, because the writing style doesn't seem like fanfic to me and there's enough levels of meta-y things to drown me in. if mofftiss wrote us fanfiction I am going to explode

oh god ‘Within the narrative’ killed me. Oh God. Okay, deep breath. I’ll do the same as I did for ‘The One Word Test’ here, just go through and pick out the most relevant quotes for me as I go along.

THIS JUST ANALYSES THE INTRODUCTION ‘CAUSE IT GOT LONG. If folk are interested, I could try and pick apart the whole fic if I don’t die from the attempt sos adhflslhgsjlf.

Hope this helps! From the beginning, then?

Okay, so first we have the weird tagging system- why is the fic tagged as both a Tragedy and a Comedy? Well, because of this opening quote from The Three Garridebs: It may have been a comedy, or it may have been a tragedy. It cost one man his reason, it cost me a blood-letting, and it cost yet another man the penalties of the law. Yet there was certainly an element of comedy. Well, you shall judge for yourselves.” See this post by @teaandqueerbaiting!

^I take this to mean we’ve got our ‘comedy’ Garridebs in The Final Problem, the cheap dangling Garridebs brothers gag. We’re still waiting for our truly emotional, true Garridebs scene between John and Sherlock.

Then, we come to the summary and opening notes to chapter 1:

Right, who on earth is Proper Dave? See this and this post by @may-shepard  @laughing-at-the-darkness and @221bloodnun. Proper Dave is a character from the Doctor Who episode Silence in the Library, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Euros Lyn, who also directed The Blind Banker.

Proper Dave is a PILOT (ooh little on the plane in TFP: ‘the driver’s asleep!’) He’s called ‘Proper Dave’ in contrast with another crew member named ‘Other Dave’ because ‘Proper Dave’ was there before him. It’s never twins, Watson.

I’ve not watched this episode but basically for some reason Proper Dave “acquires an extra shadow”- this means the villains of the episode are attacking him. The Doctor tries to save him but fails, leaving Proper Dave’s “data ghost” to echo his last thoughts:  “Hey, who turned out the lights?”  Side-note: if this is the 4th favourite fic, I wonder where Proper Dave’s 3rd and other fave fics are… ;)

Now, what about the “A boring story” bit? I cannot for the life of me find the quote, but I remember Steven once describing The Three Garridebs as “a very boring story”- clearly tongue in cheek as it’s one of the most iconic moments of ACD canon, even saying in his own foreward to the stories that “you’ll be blinking back tears when the moment comes.” (x) Tagging @waitedforgarridebs in case she knows where the quote is, the resident Garridebs expert. ;)

“about the stuff between the lines.”- well, we’re all very good at finding that. <3

And the notes. Of course, nothing is certain, but to me these only become worthwhile and genuinely funny if you see them as written by someone who’s…well… very much an insider on the show. “Series 4 and 5 spoiler alerts”- that’s very presumptuous of you. ;) Saying they’ve deduced things correctly, including what they’re “probably” going to call the Watson baby– this is so funny if at this point they genuinely hadn’t decided what the baby was going to be called lmao.

Then we get one of the most bizarre meta introductions I’ve had the pleasure of reading:

“Most people think they know what’s going to happen. Perhaps you’ll dismiss this narrative early, thinking it is boring and banal and not worth the distance to that innermost cave. Or perhaps you’ll be too easily impressed and think this is a great story.
Perhaps you’re just looking for a cheap thrill. Well, this one has thrills, but they don’t come cheaply. The Powers-That-Be never gave me any trigger warnings, so I’ll give none to you, save this: Here there be dragons.
In any case, we’re going to follow the rules. Stories have rules, of course, just like chemistry, like biology. Like gravity. Perhaps—if you are an omnivorous reader yourself—you know that there are certain rules that a good story must never break.
It turns out that we’ve been wrong… and right… all along. That’s the beauty of it. That’s what makes this a good mystery.
Back up a bit. Ready the players. Set the stage.”

Why, why why is this so meta. Why does it read like a set of instructions. It’s so out of place for a fic. Why is either “dismissing the narrative early” or “being too easily impressed” such an apt summary for some reactions to The Final Problem? The stage is set, the curtain rises. Here be dragons.

We know “the rules” of this story- and we know that The Final Problem broke all of them. Steven and Mark themselves have said the episode was deliberately full of “transgressions.”

They’ve been wrong….(The Final Problem)…and right (every other episode) all along. The mixture makes it the mystery. We need to- and have solved- that mystery: why it was wrong. Because it didn’t end with John and Sherlock together. The rest of the true love story is yet to be told.

Prompt: Jemma and AIDA/Madame Hydra confrontation. "Please let him go".

Wow, you guys don’t send me the fluffy prompts, do you?? But here you go! Excuse the hand-waving over how everyone gets out of the framework; I don’t do plot, y’all. **there’s no Fitz/AIDA kiss in this guys!!**

———–

For the first time since she’s arrived in this nightmare, hellscape of a world, Jemma truly feels out of options. Her only real hope is that Daisy has managed to get the others out and Yoyo and the rest of SHIELD’s available agents have gotten the message and are waiting on the other side.

But Jemma had refused to leave without Fitz, and now AIDA has ensured there would be no leaving for her at all.

“Please,” she hears herself beg. Her body isn’t technically real, just bits of programming, but she can feel the unbearable weight of her bones and the shattering of her heart all the same. After all she’s done to survive and reach this point, she is not above begging. “AIDA—”

AIDA’s head snaps towards her in a livid glare, and for the first time Jemma wonders if maybe this version of the LMD actually does have human emotions. How can something artificial look so angry and bitter? How can blood rush to fill her cheeks with color? How do her eyes glint with such steel?

“How dare you call me that? Do not ever call me that again,” she sneers and Jemma blinks rapidly in confusion.

“I’m…I’m sorry,” she offers. She feels sluggish, her mind worn down to the point of breaking. “What should I call you?”

AIDA—for Jemma can’t help thinking of her as AIDA, even if she doesn’t say it again—arches an eyebrow, once again in control. “Madame Hydra, out of respect.” She pauses and smiles and Jemma flinches because she knows everything AIDA does is calculated. She would not smile unless she meant to wound. “My name is Ophelia, but only Leopold is allowed to call me that.”

Ophelia, Jemma thinks, and can’t stop herself from imagining how the name must sound with Fitz’s tongue curled carefully around it.

“Madame Hydra,” Jemma finally continues when she has shoved this minor heartbreak down with all the others, “please. Please let him go.”

AIDA walks closer until she’s right in front of Jemma and runs a finger along her bruised cheek. Jemma looks up at her without breathing and remembers when she’d first seen her, it, how fascinated she’d been. How upset at Fitz for keeping the secret. She wonders now if he knows how completely she’d forgiven him, how wholly she will forgive him anything.

“Certainly,” AIDA murmurs, turning sharply and pressing a button on her desk.

Fitz enters a moment later, still in his designer suit, still walking like a stranger and not like the man she’d allowed to entwine his soul with hers.

“Madame,” he says with a deferential nod. His eyes rake over Jemma on the way to AIDA, and she’s crazy, she knows she’s being crazy but there is something there. After their eyes met on Radcliffe’s island amidst a storm of bullets, she had never been allowed near him again. Daisy’s theory was that AIDA feared their connection.

But if that truly was AIDA’s greatest fear, why allow this meeting now? Perhaps she’s finally secure enough in her victory, and if that’s the case Jemma’s wishful thinking is about to get her killed.

“Leopold,” AIDA practically purrs, and he steps closer to both of them. God, he’s so near. She could touch him, she could throw herself into his arms. She could beg.

She does nothing.

Hi! Have you done anything on Sally Hemings? If so, could you possibly link me? If not, do you have any information about her? I know so little about her and wish I knew more

Here you go, I wrote you a 2231 word essay on Sally Hemings. All sources come from Jefferson and Hamilton: The Rivalry That Forged a Nation and Thomas Jefferson: Art and Power.

1735, a man named Hemings, the white English captain of a trading ship, fathered a daughter with a “full-blooded African” woman. The African woman’s child was named Elizabeth. The mother and daughter ended up as slaves of the Eppes family- the Eppes family from which John Wayles (Thomas Jefferson’s father in law) would marry his first wife, Martha. 1746- the year Wayles married Martha Eppes- Elizabeth Hemings, then about eleven years old, moved to the Wayles property. 1761, Elizabeth was taken by John Wayles into concubine and she bore five children to him, Robert Hemings, James Hemings, Thenia Hemings, Critta Hemings an Peter Hemings. In 1773, she gave birth to a sixth child: Sarah “Sally” Hemings.

Thomas Jefferson married Martha Wayles Skelton on New Year’s Day 1772. Martha, was a daughter of John Wayles. Through his marriage ,Jefferson acquired more slaves, later receiving Elizabeth Hemings, whose daughter, Sally, who would be born months later- was a half-sister of Martha Jefferson, after Wayles’s death. Martha Jefferson chose to keep the Hemings family together after her father’s death by bringing them onto her land. Jefferson payed a midwife to deliver Elizabeth’s son John. Nearly noon on Friday, September 6, 1782 Martha Jefferson died. Her house servants- including Elizabeth Hemings, were among those with Martha as she lay dying. In her last pledges to her husband, she told him to never marry again- Sally Hemings who was witness to this was not quite ten years old yet. Among one of the last things she did, Martha handed Sally a tiny silver servant bell as a gift.

1784, when Thomas Jefferson accepted a position as ambassador of France, he brought with him his eldest daughter, Martha “Patsy” Jefferson, and James Hemings- son of Elizabeth Hemings and brother of Sally Hemings. Jefferson had intentions to train James to be a cook of French food. June 26th, 1787, Jefferson was able to get his daughter, Mary “Polly” Jefferson whom he’d left in the company of family along with his now deceased younger daughter Lucy Elizabeth Jefferson over to France to join him and Patsy in attempt to recreate his family. Polly arrived in London and was handed into the care of Abigail Adams, with the youngest Jefferson was Sally Hemings. “The old nurse whom you expected to have attended her was sick and unable to come, Abigail Adams wrote to Jefferson, “She has a girl about about 15 or 16 with her, the sister of the servant you have with you.” Abigail also told she is “quite like a child” and required more care than Polly- who was five year younger. She inquired about sending Sally back to Virginia.

There are no known images of Sally Hemings. On arrival in Europe, Sally was fourteen years of age, and had very light skin, “almost white” and “very handsome, with long straight hair down her back”. There was some resemblance between Sally Hemings and Jefferson’s late wife Martha Jefferson. Abigail Adams also described Sally as, “…she seems fond of the child and appears good natured.” Polly Jefferson and Sally arrived in Paris on July 15th, 1787. She probably ran errands and served as a chambermaid as well as a seamstress. She accompanied Patsy and Polly to dances and dinners, Jefferson spent a considerable sum in 1789 on clothing for Sally. While in Dusseldorf, Jefferson found himself fascinated by a 1699 painting by the Dutch artist Adriaen van der Werff of Abraham taking the young servant Hagar to his bed. The Virginian described it as, “delicious. I would have agreed to have been Abraham though the consequence would have been that I should have been five or six thousand years.”

Since her arrival in France, Sally had been paid some small wages- twelve livres a month for ten months. Jefferson had bought clothing for her and had her inoculated against smallpox. Sally’s day routine is less clear, though she may have served the Jefferson daughters as a maid at the convent school during part of her time in Paris. It was during the years of 1788 and 1789 that Thomas Jefferson began his sexual activity with Sally Hemings (then only fifteen or sixteen years old). The emotional content of the Jefferson-Hemings “relationship” is a mystery. Some say he loved her, and vice versa. Others argue it was coercive, institutionalized rape. If someone is your property, it is impossible for you to ask consent before sexual acts because they are “property” to you, property cannot give consent. No consent before sex is rape. All those who were slaves brought into concubine with their masters were raped- property cannot give consent because they are owned by another human being. It was not love, it was rape. Property cannot give consent. Sally Hemings might of been doing what she had to do to survive an evil system, accepting sexual duty as an element of her enslavement and using what leverage she had to improve the lot of her children.

It all falls apart.. Black Sails Season Four Episode Nine

So, in the spirit of honesty, this was a difficult recap to write. I had anticipated it being so because Luke Arnold was so excited for us to see it. He described it as his favorite episode ever and I was positively giddy to view it. After viewing, I get why he loved it. The flashbacks were beautifully shot, the fighting was some of the best I’ve seen in four seasons and that scene between Madi and Woodes Rogers was chilling. Zethu was absolutely brilliant in it, but that one scene summed up pretty much everything I loved and struggled to love regarding this episode.

We start off the episode with a flashback of Silver walking to meet Flint on a hilltop. It’s evident that it’s a flashback scene because Silver still has his metal leg. We find out that Flint has summoned Silver to teach him how to “fight and not die”. The reason that this is so important now is because the invasion of Nassau is a few weeks away. Flint gingerly tells Silver that it would be better if he learned to fight with a crutch and is surprised when Silver doesn’t fight him on this. Clearly, the purpose of the scene is to show the trust that has developed between the two men since the Fireside confession in 3x10.

~ When the fighting truly begins all that matters is what makes for the greatest advantage~ Flint

~ The men, I have to manage how they see me. I understand that’s part of my job, but for pride to be an issue between you and I well, I think we’re plain past that by now. Don’t you? Do you really imagine that a few weeks of this is going to make that much difference? Am I not what I am at this point? ~ Silver

~ It’s better than nothing.~ Flint

~ You’re not concerned about this? ~ Silver

~ Concerned? ~ Flint

~ Well, you say you’ll be teaching me to fight. But if every man fights differently, seems to me what you’ll really be teaching me is how to defeat you.~ Silver

~ I’ll take my chances. Shall we? ~ Flint

When we return to the present, we see Silver traveling on a launch. He is heading to Skeleton Island to  join Hands and the six man crew in their search of Flint. Silver mentions to Hands that the Governor gave him until sunrise to deliver the cache. Silver voices that he has doubts that the Governor will actually keep his word though. He knows that he is up to something. He just isn’t sure what that is.

While Silver and Hands are having this conversation, Rogers is seen asking Billy who he thinks will be the victor between Silver and Flint. Billy states that Silver has the men, motivation, etc… However, Flint is Flint, and he is at his best when backed into a corner. He encourages the Governor not to wait and see this thing done himself. Honestly, I thought at this point, I’d be over being disappointed by Billy. I’m not. Seeing Billy actively plotting and orchestrating the death of his brothers is painful. Little did we know that this was just the tip of the iceberg for him though. There is much more pain to come. Rogers surprises everyone by saying that he would like to speak to Madi and to have her brought to him. Billy, with all his false bravado, tells him that Madi will never accept a compromise. Rogers quickly reminds him that he is a means to an end and that he needs to remain useful or else end up dead. So essentially, play your position.

In the next scene we flashback to Maroon Island and Silver training with Flint. Somewhere in the midst of sweat flying, it dawns on Flint that Silver knows “his story, his past”,  but he doesn’t know Silver’s. Silver repeats the story that he has told many times. He’s from White Chapel. Never knew his mother and grew up in an orphanage. Flint scoffs at that and tells him that he doesn’t believe it’s true and he encourages Silver to tell him the truth. Silver states it’s not important and yet Flint expresses disbelief that Silver refuses to share his past. Silver looks unnerved with the line of questioning and leaves.

Back again in the present, Flint attacks three of the men on his trail and kills them. We then see Jack sailing with his crew to find Skeleton Island.

And then we see the Queen… She’s been brought up to Rogers and she’s looking as defiant as ever. But wait… the two aren’t alone. Ghost Eleanor is sitting in the corner knitting because evidently she has unfinished business here. I’m assuming she’s his conscience now. Too bad it only took hundreds of women, men and children dying, including his own, for him to get one.  Rogers starts off the conversation from a position of power and intimidation standing directly behind Madi. Little does he know, the Queen doesn’t really do scare tactics. I guess he didn’t decipher that from their last interaction.

~ You have no idea the restraint this takes. How urgent the instinct toward violence. How certain the conviction that it would be deserved, given what you and your partners have destroyed, what you’ve taken from me. To me, compromise seems a loathsome, unbearable act. What compromise can there be with the man responsible for the death of my wife? Or with those who follow him? You’re luckier than you know. So much luckier than you know that in this moment I can still hear the faintest of voices in my head arguing against the alternative. If I must compromise to avert a dark end, then so must you. I’ve offered you freedom for your people. I have offered you more than you have any right to expect. And still, you will not say yes. So I come to you one last time to ensure you cannot say no. Accept the treaty….~ Rogers

Madi interrupts him mid sentence. Just cuts him the hell off. Queen was like I’m tired of all this pontificating.

~ I will consider no treaty of yours.~ Madi

~…. and John Silver lives. Refuse and he dies. Along with the rest of the men who followed him here. And from what I understand, he is the one who matters most to you. The one with whom you might lead a life if you can set aside your pride in this moment. Do not make the same mistake I did. Do the deal.~ Rogers

~ The voice you hear in your head. I imagine I know who it sounds like as I know Eleanor wanted those things. But I hear the voices. A chorus of voices. Multitudes. They reach back centuries. Men and women and children who’d lost their lives to men like you. Men and women and children forced to wear your chains. I must answer to them and this war. Their war. Flint’s war. My war. It will not be bargained away to avoid a fight, to save John Silver’s life or his men’s or mine. And you believe what you will, but it was neither I nor Flint nor the Spanish raider who killed your wife. That, you did.~ Madi

I’ve always known Queen Madi Scott was special. Quite honestly, she is probably one of the best characters on television. A lot of that is due to writing, but Zethu is mesmerizing in this role. I watched this scene and wept. I wept for the pure defiance in her eyes. The conviction. The Calling. Yes, I said Calling. Like never before, Madi made me feel that she’s doing God’s work. In this moment, she is fighting to free her people. She’s fighting for the ones who died at the bottom of ships on the passage over. She’s fighting for the ones who made it over and lived in chains. She’s fighting for the ones who are “free” like her, but still aren’t and she fighting so that her children won’t have to. In this scene, Madi spelled out in no uncertain terms that Madi’s war, her Calling, is about freeing her people and making the world a better place for  them.

I wept for another reason though. I wept because of the lip quiver. I wept because of the heaving chest and the quick swallowing. I wept because of the watery eyes. I wept because in one brief moment, we saw Madi Scott, the woman. Not the Queen of the Maroons or a Leader in the Revolution. We saw Madi that young girl who fell in love with a silver tongued, one legged Pirate. I wept because Madi in that moment realized that this war might take her love’s life as payment and she accepted that possibility. Not just that John’s life might be forfeited, but hers and her people’s as well. Again, she didn’t choose this war over Silver’s life. She chose her Calling of freeing her enslaved people over EVERYTHING. Freedom ain’t never been free. People have always had to die for it. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t love John with everything in her soul. It just means that she has to realize that she was lucky enough to fall in love with a man who supports her Calling. And he does.. He proved that when he punished Billy. He proved that when he broke those chains at Underhill. He proved that with his respect of the Queen Mother and Ruth. Silver is more than ready to accept her Calling and his. Madi just needs to realize it. As a said before, freedom ain’t free, but sometimes there can be another way. Sometimes the entire world and everyone in it doesn’t have to burn. If anyone is smart enough to find a way, it’s Madi and Silver together.

Honestly, I could just stop here, because that scene was hard and I’m tired as fuck. But alas, The King is still searching for Flint and the cache. We next see him and Hands standing over the bodies of the men that Flint has killed. Silver is pissed and cursing Flint. Hands ain’t having it. He reminds John that both he and Billy tried to warn him that Flint ain’t shit and ain’t ever going to be shit. He also  tells him that Flint will show up, spin a damn tale and your loyal ass “will not have learned a got damn thing”. He’s right too. Our blue-eyed Bae is loyal as hell to Captain Ginger and that self serving bastard has never deserved it, but yet here we are. Silver than has a moment of clarity and realizes that he may know where Flint has went.

We then see Flint and Dooley carrying the chest. Dooley is expressing concerns over Silver’s ability to remain a part of the alliance. Flint assures him that once Madi is safe, Silver will be fine, but Dooley disagrees. He believes that Silver may be permanently compromised and when the time comes he will deal with it so that Flint won’t have that burden on his soul. Dooley, sweetheart, Flint killed Gates with his bare hands. That motherfucker doesn’t mind doing the wet work. Just saying.

In the next flashback, the training continues. We see Silver telling Flint a whole lot of nothing about his backstory. Clearly, Silver’s backstory isn't relevant to his present life. And Jesus, wept or at least I did. I waited four years for this and got Zilch, Nada, Nothing.

So, we’ve reached the fucked me up portion of the recap. In the present day, Joji and one of the crew encountered Flint and Dooley. Flint kills the crew member, while Joji fights Dooley. Joji, a real friend to the end, harms Dooley just enough to put him out of commission. He could have killed his brother and chooses not to. Not Flint, though. No sir. He did what he always does. He kills Joji. In what world could Flint beat Joji in a sword fight? R.I.P, Joji, my Silent Bae. I loved you.

As this is happening, we see members of Rogers crew swimming to the Walrus, where they proceed to light it on fire. They also untie all the launches so the men can’t escape. So you see, Madi not trusting Roger’s word was kind of a safe bet. Roger’s word doesn’t men shit. Ask his wife and child. I’ll wait. Mr. De Groot gives the abandon ship command and my heart breaks. This ain’t gon’ end well.

Hands and Silver spot Flint and Hands rushes down to stop him. More fighting ensues and Flint gets the best of Hands and knocks him out. Yeah, you read that right. Hands, the Ginger Savage, was bested by Flint. You really can’t make this shit up. Silver finally makes it and demands that Flint tell him where the treasure is. Flint says the treasure is in the ground and it will remain there until Madi is free and they gather it and return it to the camp.

~ I know you cannot see why this must be. But it must be. And every moment we waste is a moment we could be working to retrieve her.~ Flint

~ That’s all this has ever been, isn’t it? A partnership only insofar as it enables you to do whatever it is that matters to you in any given moment. And right now it matters far less to you whether she lives or dies than it happens your way, on your terms.~ Silver

~ I think you know it’s far more complicated than that. I’m certain she does. Even if you could kill me, even if that somehow helped you see her alive again, how are you going to explain it to her? She believes in this as much as I do. You know this. If it costs the war to save her, you’ll have lost her anyway. Even you cannot construct a story to make her forgive you that. You do this and you’re gonna regret it.~ Flint

Well, clearly those were fighting words, because Silver drew his sword and the fight commenced. But before we proceed, let’s rehash some things. Flint just implied to Silver that he knew Madi better than him. Marinate on that… Flint told Silver that Madi would essentially side with him. She would want this war to go on in spite of everything. But…. Madi is fighting for her people’s freedom. She fighting for the “greater good”. Flint on the other hand, is not. Flint is fighting to destroy England because he loved and lost. THAT.IS.IT. So someone explain to me like I’m a toddler, how are Madi’s Calling and Flint’s Revenge Campaign the same? I’ll wait. So back to the task at hand, Dooley shows up to the fight and attempts to shoot Silver. Flint kills him to prevent it and then an explosion occurs. It’s the Walrus. It’s completely engulfed in flames and the men are being shot dead in the water as they abandon ship. Leading this slaughter is Billy. I don’t have the words. De Groot is shot in the head, but Billy spares Gunn. For, not the last time, I wept. All these dead bodies in the water. Men that I watched and loved for four seasons are now dead. Dead because there can only be one way and that’s Flint way.

Silver flashbacks to this beautiful moment of him and Madi. It looks as though, they are eating together back on Maroon Island before all the Death and Destruction happened. Madi looks so young and innocent and Silver is obviously trying to reassure her that Flint means him no ill will…

~ Can’t you see it? It isn’t utility that’s behind his investment in me nor necessity nor dependency. I understand you fear a false motive. But this much is clear to me now.. I have earned his respect. And after all the tragedies that man has suffered….. the loss of Thomas, the events of Charles Town. I have earned his trust. I have his true friendship and so he is going to have mine. And as long as that is true, I cannot imagine what is possible.~ Silver

Deep sigh…. Silver speaks of his friend with such deep respect and admiration. He even seems a little in awe that Captain Flint, chose him of all people to trust with a true friendship. This is why we needed Silver’s backstory. This is why it was so important to know what happened in his past that would make him sacrifice so much for a man that has never done the same for him. That said… the scene once again showed that Silver truly does love Madi above all else. There is nary a secret between them and I would assume that would also include his backstory. It’s so clear why this man will fight the Devil himself to see Madi returned. She is his everything.

This episode was hard guys. Hard because honestly, we are left with more questions than answers and we only have one episode to get them. One episode until it’s all said and done.

Advice for the signs
  • Aries: Take a step back and think. You are wonderful just the way you are, why do you have to be mean to others just to compensate for your lack of self-esteem? You care so much, I know that. But you have to let the others know that as well. You don't need to prove yourself to anyone. You're a hidden gem, aries and let someone find you instead of wrecking the surprise for them. You are loved and you know exactly how to have fun so keep reminding yourself that you are worthy of the adventure your life has to offer.
  • Taurus: Get out of your comfort zone and stop caring about what people think. I know that you're the best at giving advice but I think it's about time that someone takes care of you. You are not those stereotypes people try to label you with. You are candid. Don't forget your dreams and keep focusing on how to get there. Be social, let yourself be loved and remember that you can always learn from anyone. You're not alone and people can understand, if you let them in. Take in the sun, try something new and keep in mind the fact that you can live through anything. You represent grace. You are going to be okay.
  • Gemini: You have so many interesting things to say and don't let anyone ever shush you. You are a deep thinker, an innovator. Gemini, I know your mind is on overdrive but take a moment to slow down, on your terms. But after that, do as much as you can because you are capable of so much. Be sure of your opinions (stick to them!) and keep looking forward, you moment will come too. Discover yourself, your surroundings and let yourself be immune to all that is superficial. We all know you are authentic so why keep up the mask? We'll love you anyway and perhaps even more. You are going to be okay.
  • Cancer: You spread your love so much that at the end of the day, you have none left for yourself. So, when you're down, let yourself be nurtured as much you would nurture someone else. Your voice may be soft but every word has so much meaning. You are so kind, genuinely thoughtful and you are so rare. Keep your purity, don't let corruptions soak in your veins or crawl on your skin. Sometimes, it can be good just to stop caring and to live at the moment. The world's problems are not your responsibility. You are free. Always. You are going to be okay.
  • Leo: Keep being yourself, I like that. But remember, people's opinion about you does not impact your self-worth. You are special and you are whole just by yourself. It's okay to lose your cool sometimes and become humble and silly, it will feel refreshing I promise. You are so brave and one of kind. Keep standing up for what you believe in and never let anyone extinguish your fire. Go get what you want and keep fierce. You are going to be okay.
  • Virgo: You are so on top of everything and I admire you for that. I know that things are overwhelming right now but you have to realize that you are powerless to somethings. Live and let live. You are so talented, unique, sensitive, intellectual and grounded, why are you so hard on yourself? You are your very own prized position. Be proud of yourself and keep working hard, it's going to bring you places. Keep being kind and considerate. The fear you feel is only in your head and you hold power over it. You are going to be okay.
  • Libra: I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful you are, so stop trying to please so hard! The people who are truly good for you are the ones you will not compromise yourself for. You are aloud to be unhappy with something and voice your opinion about it. Discover your talents and expose them to the world. Sing, dance, laugh and don't let anyone rain on your parade. You are more than meets the eye libra. You are a force to be reckoned with. You are going to be okay.
  • Scorpio: Oh boy, there are so many things I want to tell you. I'll start by saying that people care about you as much as you care about them so stop pushing them away. When you're in the dark, let your hand be held. You know you are different but you forget that it's a good thing. You are so loyal but don't be with your demons. You are not who has hurt you so shake that thought out of your head. I love how you are able to strive even when your heart is shattered. Remember what your priorities are and make sure to include yourself. You are going to be okay.
  • Sagittarius: The world is your oyster so never limit yourself to only what is known. Be daring, keep being honest and don't let yourself taken over by things that are simply not worth your time. Be patient and the good things will come. Cherish your freedom and keep that laugh of yours just as loud. Remember your one liners and how many faces you have made smile. Do whatever you want your heart desires and stay candid. You are going to be okay.
  • Capricorn: You have so many plans and you know exactly how to make them happen. No matter what your achievements are, you will always be successful. Take a minute to look at the beautiful world around you. Show them they were wrong! You are so much more than what they tell you to be. Keep asking questions, competing but keep your mind open. You know that you have an emotional side to yourself and you will feel at piece once you acknowledge it. You are devoted but let someone but just as kind towards you. You are going to be okay.
  • Aquarius: Keep being weird and not caring about the differences that set you apart from the rest. Your brain holds so much knowledge and wisdom, don't let your pride get in the way of it. You can revolutionize, change the world, modify the norms. You are so peculiar and I know that it's hard to have your interest but I can promise you that if you look at everything without a filter, you will feel at peace. Be the exception to everything. You will be okay.
  • Pisces: Always follow your gut. Your thoughts speak nothing but the truth so never put them aside. You are so special already, you don't need to change to fit in. You naturally do. You are an old soul, the one who got away, the one who will take you home. Don't let yourself get taken avantage of, trust yourself and never stop dreaming. Keep doodling and listening. Remember how strong you are, that behind that sweetness hides a layer of tar that you need to discover on your own. You are multi-dimensional. You are going to be okay.
Read It Wednesday

Welcome to week 14! A day late, sadly, hope you can forgive me. Please note that Drabbles are no longer included in Read it Wednesday. Also note that if you don’t see a series here, it means I’m behind on reading, but once I catch up you can be on the lookout for it here! This week is a little shorter but I tried to include at least one fic from everyone who tagged me. Alright, here’s this weeks compilation of fics!

thank u for this oh my god im struggling so much rn: i'd really love something with lily picking james over snape like snape being the little shit he is and trying to break them up or something because i live on that shit

“How was your summer, Evans?”

Lily is already smiling by the time she’s turned around. As she suspected, James Potter is standing in front of her in the prefect compartment, already in the uniform his mum likely forced him to put on. “Very good,” she tells him, though he already knows it. “Yours?”

“Fantastic,” says James. He raises his eyebrows at her. “I met a girl.”

Perhaps she’s too easily pleased, but her stomach jumps anyway. “Really? What was she like?”

“Oh, terrible,” he says, grinning. “Always calling me names, never pulling out my chair for me, and worst of all…. ginger.” James adds this in the tone one might use for talking about a relative who has contracted dragon pox.

She scoffs. “I’d heard her hair was more of an auburn colour.”

James gasps. “You know her too? I always reckoned she’d been stepping out on me, but I never thought it’d be with one of my mates.”

Lily elbows him in the ribs as he laughs.

Letters in the Air

This is my official imagine for the Valentine’s Day Writing Contest for fantasticwritings.tumblr.com  :) Enjoy and have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! <3

Words: 1415

Pairing: Newt Scamander X Reader

Genre: Fluff, pure fluff

GIF created by: Me! :)

Newt sat on a stony ledge of Hogwarts with a blank piece of parchment sitting on his lap, his feathered quill hovering over the page, unmoving.

What was he supposed to write? How could he truly express himself on paper?

With a heavy sigh, he dropped his quill and looked out over the courtyard, hoping for the words to hit him like the breeze that early morning.

He thought about Y/N. Everything about them. Their eyes, smile, hair, all of the things that made them special.

Passwords.

Hello little peanuts. I have returned with a gift for you.

What if everyone knew about Draco’s crush on Harry (and Harry’s crush on Draco) and Pansy decides, with the help of one Hermione Granger, to come up with passwords each week that will torture one of them into admitting it.

Inspired by this post

Enjoy.

  • The beginning of eighth year was weary for everyone
  • Back from a war, back from a summer of healing
  • But it seemed as though the atmosphere at Hogwarts had never shifted
  • Sure it was a battleground newly refurbished
  • A site of memories many didn’t want to be having
  • But it took no more than one large crate of firewhiskey graciously donated
  • And an unknown number of hours with every single eighth year student sprawled out, drunk and slobbering on their common room floor to bring them into a hazy yet comfortable year
  • It wasn’t all tear stained cheeks
  • Many more lip locks, many new friendships, even more laughter
  • It seemed … it felt much better than the year they had prepared for

Jikook Fic Masterlist

Hi! This is my first official post on this blog other than just reblogging Jikook. I recently just found out that my best friend (who I succeeded in getting obsessed with BTS) ships Jikook and

I’m so unbelievably happy you have no idea.

Anyway, this masterlist is dedicated to her to get her started on the Best of the Best Jikook fics that I’ve read, needless to say that’s a lot.

But, don’t worry! To all who are reading I don’t ONLY rec fics, I also WRITE them. I have multiple fics lined up to write, they’re all Jikook because I’m an actual dumpster. I just have a shit ton of homework like all the time, so I have no idea when they’re going to be uploaded.

Follow me on AO3! I have one fic and it’s not even Jikook, but do it for the future fics.

ANYWAY, enough with my ramblings and onto the fics! I read a lot of fluff so that’s mostly what these are, but they’re REALLY GOOD so go read them! @thatdeadlypenguin this is for you!

On Patrol - It’s ongoing but GOD it’s so good. It’s a cop AU and my lord the feels are strong and wonderful. It has side ships Yoonseok and Namjin, but everything is so fluffy. Up until chapter 18, just watch out for that one, it ripped my heart out.

Track one: I love you - My heart is breaking one piece at a time and it feels so good because this story just puts it right back together again. IT’S ANGST and I barely ever read angst because I can’t handle it, but this was just so GOOD. It has Yoonmin in the beginning, but they break up and Jungkook has to help him build up again and it’s so heartbreaking I hardcore cried while reading this and I’m not a crier. I’ve said this before and I’m going to say it again this is BEAUTIFUL. Wonderfully written and it’s absolutely stunning go read it please.

Riptide - My TEARS this is SO GOOD. It’s non AU and there’s angst but MY GOD it is so beautifully written and I love it. Eighteen chapters of magic right here guys READ IT. It’s heartbreaking at some parts, smutty in others, and fluff dotted here and there but it’s wonderful and you all should read it.

Blow Me Like Your French Horn - This is fucking hilarious. 8 chapters of crack basically. French Horn!Jungkook and Trumpet!Jimin. Jungkook is such a child and it’s hilarious. Warning - The cursing in this story in cranked up to 10, just saying.

You’re My Genie, Lamborghini (You’re My Teeny Weeny Meenie) - Social Networking!AU and my heart cannot describe how much I love it. A little bit of smut but it’s mostly just fluff. I love it. Tip for moblie users: Scroll to the right. It’ll make a lot more sense when the pictures can show up because then you’ll actually be able to read everything (it took me 3 reads to figure that out).

The Ocean at the End of the Universe - Aviation Academy!AU that takes place 5000 years in the future and the characters in it are mostly Jimin, Jungkook, and Taehyung but the rest of Bangtan is mentioned. This is fabulous though, one of my most recent reads and it’s wonderful.

sugar, we’re going down swinging - AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH this fic is one of my favorites of all time. Modern Sherlock!AU. Basically Jimin is Sherlock and Jungkook is Watson and Jungkook is Done like all the time. Jimin is a child. A really smart child who likes to solve crimes and drags Jungkook the med student/roommate along with him on his adventures. MUST READ

Could you turn off your cell phone? (Bts Social Media au) - Ongoing It’s exactly what it says in that it’s a Jikook social media au served with a side of Yoonseok and a dollop of Namjin. It’s fluff and humor, basically. AGAIN, A TIP- Mobile users, scroll to the right when the pictures come up.

longing: a yearning desire - Ongoing. nnnnggghghghh oh my GOD I love this. Soulmate!AU with Mute!Jimin and Jungkook the Romantic. It’s beautiful, side of Yoonseok, it’s cute. Read it.

slytherpuff relationships are the best 1 2 3 - It’s a series. Harry Potter!AU and I don’t really like Harry Potter, but this is so UNBELIEVABLY GOOD that I just had to read it. Hufflepuff!Jimin and Slytherin!Jungkook. Basically, Jungkook is the seeker for Slytherin and Jimin is his fanboy and then Jungkook goes and sits at the Hufflepuff lunch table and FLUFF ENSUES SERIOUSLY IT’S SO GOOD GO READ IT EVEN IF YOU DON’T LIKE HARRY POTTER. Should be read in the order of which they’re listed.

In the Line of Fire - Fraternity!AU and Jimin and Jungkook are in enemy fraternities and there’s a water war and Jimin wants nothing to do with it and he keeps getting soaked. Jungkook thinks he’s cute and this ends up with smut, but it’s a good lead up to good smut so go read it.

Guilty Pleasures - CCCCUUUUUTTTTTEEEE pure fucking fluff and it’s wonderful. It’s just a thousand word one-shot but it’s so WORTH IT. Jimin wakes up at 2 am to make brownies and Jungkook wakes up to help him and Seokjin is mad because he smells chocolate when he wakes up the next morning.

Flower Talk - Oh MY GOD this is so beautiful. Jikook both work in a flower shop with Jungkook as the delivery boy and Jimin really likes talking about flowers and it’s so beautiful and cute and fluffy and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

That’s basically it at the moment regarding all the REALLY GOOD ones I’ve read. Most of the stuff I read is fluff, but when I’m feeling sinful I’ll read smut. But yeah, hope this was helpful and you enjoyed!
