i love the shore

I crave your love
like the shore
craves the sea.

Art School | Sophie Roach (Austin, TX)

Drawing and painting her way through an imaginative landscape of intricate and visual entanglements is Austin native, Sophie Roach.  Her artwork has endlessly covered  surfaces from– guitars, beer cans, Vans, to entire rooms.  And if that isn’t already insanely rad, her organic approach and laid back attitude make her not only incredibly humble, but also a super awesome collaborator.  While finishing up one mural and starting up new projects, we had the chance to ask Sophie a few questions about her art, her career, and her approach – from finding her voice, attacking a mural, to digging the quietude one might find as a mail person hah!

CONSIDER THIS: Mermaid Princess Weiss, sneaking onto the beach of the nearby city, singing "Part Of Your World" from "The Little Mermaid." She surfaces and sits on a rock at the end, "When's it my turn? Wouldn't I love, love to explore that shore up above? Out of the sea/ Wish I could be / Part of that world..." and then Human Seashell Collector Ruby finally tells her she can hang out with her if she likes.

Auston Matthews - Sunrise

Requested stories will resume this evening

Your alarm went off and you quickly shut it off before it also woke up Auston. You two were spending a weekend at a beach house on the shore of Newport Beach. The house you were staying in had windows up to the ceiling so you’d wake up to a beautiful ocean sunrise. You had planned to sweetly wake him up and encourage him to walk on the beach with you as the sun rises while no one else is on the beach.
Giving him small kisses all over his face, he begins to wake up.
“Hi.” He smiles at you.
“Put on some clothes and lets go walk on the beach.” You say as you continue giving him kisses all over.
“Anything for you.” He says. You stop kissing him and eagerly sit up on the bed. You point to the giant window.
“Hurry. The sun is rising!” You jump off the bed and throw on a sweater. Auston quickly follows.
Your hair is in a messy pony tail and the wind isn’t making it any better. Auston tried looking you in the eyes and neither of you can see out of your hair.
“It sounded like a good idea,” you giggle and you tie up your hair into a more secure bun.
Auston interweaves his fingers with yours and you begin to walk along the shore line.
“I love the water. You know, I used to do competitive swimming? I once did an ocean swim. I loved it,” You tell Auston. Auston just stares at you with a big smile on his face while you tell him all about your swim adventures when you were younger.
“The ocean makes me feel at peace.” You end your venting.
“You make me feel the same way the ocean makes you feel.” Auston says, making you stop walking. You’re overcome with a tingly sensation all over your body. You two had been together for 4 months. This was your first vacation together and you’ve been moving fairly slow. All you did in bed was cuddle. But, this moment, felt like the time to finally tell him you loved him.
He began brushing back your flyaway hairs with his finger tips while smiling into your eyes. Then you feel one hand grab your waist and the other hold your hand.
“Dance with me.” He says, starting to sway you back and forth.
You wrap your arm around his shoulder, with your hand on the nape of his neck. He never loses eye contact you as he whispers into your lips, “I love you.”
Your whole body gets chills and you kiss him. Now both of his arms are around your waist, lifting you off the ground and spinning you in circles.
Once you’re back on the ground you tell him, “I love you, too.” Then tackle him with kisses. It definitely does not end up how you imagined.
“Okay, movies are so fake. Kissing on the sand is not ideal.” Auston spits out sand. You can feel sand in crevasses it shouldn’t be and Auston’s face is covered.
“Let’s go back to the house and clean up.” you laugh and skip back to the beach home. Auston catches up and holds your hand the whole way there.
You take turns showering. While he’s getting ready for the day you take it upon yourself to fix up breakfast. Auston enters the kitchen, “homemade breakfast??” You nod while putting the last pancake on a plate.
He grabs you from behind, embracing you with his arms around your waist. Placing his chin on your shoulder, he whispers in your ear, “this weekend is perfect. You’re perfect.”
You just respond with, “I love you.”
“I could get used to hearing this.” He says, giving you a kiss on the cheek then stealing the plate of pancakes you just made.
“Auston! Share!” You follow him to the dining area with the rest of the food you made.
You couldn’t do anything, all day, without Auston staring at you with love in his eyes while showering you with compliments.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes on.” He says, sitting on the kitchen counter as you put away the dishes you used for dinner.
“You’re delirious, Auston Matthews.” You swat him with the towel you’re drying the dishes with.
He hops off the counter and makes you drop the towel and dishes.
“I’m sane (y/n) and I madly want to prove how in love I am with you.” He begins you kiss you passionately with one of his hands tangled in your hair and the other almost Lifting your waist so you’ll be level with him.
You’ve never before felt so at home with a man.
“I’m ready.” You say.
“Ready for what?” Auston smiles.
“Show me how in love you are with me.”
Auston lifts you up and carries you to your room. You two became lost in each other for the rest of the night.
It was around midnight you awoke from your sleep and couldn’t help but stare at the beautiful man who was your boyfriend. His mouth was slightly open and you could hear his calm breathing. You begin running your fingers through his messy hair. It was curly and fallen over his face. This was your favorite way to see his hair. Auston let’s out a low growl, “what time is it?” He asked with one eye open.
“Around midnight. But I missed seeing your face.” You smile at him, continuing to rub your fingers through his hair. He closes his eyes and mumbles, “one day, I’m going to marry you.”
