i love the cast and the beautiful friendship between out babies

Fireworks - H.S.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” I mumble. The twinkling lights are mesmerizing and I just can’t seem to focus on anyone else, not even the amazing man beside me that brought me here tonight. When Harry only hums a response, I take my gaze off the fireworks ahead of me and stare at his sharp jawline.

Lately Harry had been acting differently. At first I noticed little things, like him closing off and disappearing into his own head for short amounts of time, but after a while he started raising these walls around him, pretending to be someone who is not even though the real Harry I had met two years prior was something I wish everyone had in his life.

Of course, Harry did not only have a name to keep, but also a reputation. Yes, he was pictured as a womanizer and I think he did won best dressed male again last year, although I don’t keep up with that. I keep up with what actual Harry is up too, what ticks him, what he enjoys doing. Most of the things the media bring to attention aren’t very good small details of a bigger picture.

I think that’s why this friendship works so damn well. That might also be the absolute number one reason I fell madly in love with this man. I’d never risk anything to put our friendship in jeopardy, because I honestly believe I’d never find someone like him, ever again. He was the only real thing in a world filled with lies and misinterpretations.

I’m actually terrified I’ll never get to see the real Harry again. And whatever I try, I just can’t seem to get through to him. So when he appeared at my door, giant grin on his rosy lips and a bottle of expensive champagne held up in one hand, I couldn’t decline.

“Why are you staring at me like that?” Harry laughs, pulling his bottom lip between his pearly white teeth before his glance is cast in my direction. I can feel the rosy hue appear on my cheeks, but they’re transparent to Harry’s gaze due to the harsh lighting of the fireworks going off in front of us.

“This lighting is doing you good.” I decide to go with a true compliment, although that wasn’t initially on my mind. I love the smile that it draws on his lips, the way his eyes crinkle and how he then casts his glance away. “Do you say that to all men?”

“Only you.” I shrug my shoulders with a grin and let a shriek flow from my lips when I feel Harry’s elbow collide with my ribs. “Hey, I gave you a really nice compliment and this is how you repay me?”
“What do you want to hear? How beautiful you look? You always do, Y/n.” Harry huffs as he rolls his eyes and fixates his gaze back onto the sparkly lights disappearing as quickly as they appear.

“You’re one of the most kind-hearted people I know Harry, you deserve all of this success you’re receiving, you know that right?” I decide to bring up the new single, the one that’s supposed to come out in just a few hours – at midnight to be exact. He hadn’t mentioned it since I had heard it when he had initially finished it. It was his baby, his first solo record and he didn’t seem to utter another word about it. It had been months and it saddened me because it was so damn good.

“How is that new man of yours?” Harry’s voice changes tone, and when I decide to peek I see the frown that has set onto his eyebrow. I guess we’re still not talking about it, and I decide to drop it. Last time I had tried to initiate conversation we ended up not speaking to each other for almost two weeks. Which were the worst two weeks of my life, really. “That’s over and done with, didn’t I mention that?”

“Well no, you didn’t.” Harry sighs and I see the small smile tug at his lips. I scoot a little bit closer to Harry, although I’m not sure why. “Well, sorry then.”
“Why did you break up? I thought you liked him.” Harry throws his arm around my shoulder and I lay my head on his shoulder, taking in a deep breath as I focus back on the popping flashing of light.

“I never really did, I think.” I mumble, dropping my hand onto Harry’s knee and giving it a firm squeeze. “I’m searching for something else.” I finish off, feeling my heart throb in my throat. Indirectly, in my own head, I had confessed my love for Harry. He would never see it as such, but that didn’t take away any of the anxiety coursing through my body.

“Well it’s great that you know what you want.”

“Don’t you know what you want?”

“Yeah, but I’m sure she hasn’t even given it a thought. I think I’m nothing more to her than just a really good friend.”

“Who says that? Harry if you want this girl, go and get her. Do you even realize how amazing you are? You always put me up when I’m down. You watch the most horrifying movies with me whenever I want to, without any complaint. You once showed up at my door just because I sounded blue to you on the phone. I’m sure whatever girl you want is just as madly in love with you as you are with her.” I grin, squeezing his knee for emphasis as I let my eyes dart along the sky, trying to follow every firework going off.

“Do you know what sign of the times is about?” Harry suddenly questions and I feel myself stiffen in his embrace as he for the first time in weeks talks about his song or upcoming album.
“Well I interpreted it as hope.” I decide to voice my own thoughts and feelings as simply as possible.

“That’s the great part of it. I think – in whatever time of your life you are, it might – I don’t know – can be interpreted in whatever way it suits you.” Harry starts to stumble over his words as if he were nervous, his ring clad fingers toying with his jeans as he avoids my gaze as well as the sounds going on around us.

“So you’re saying I’m hoping for something?” I smile, somewhat feeling my own nerves bubbling in my stomach as I pull away from Harry, smiling brightly at his twinkling eyes.

“Yeah, you could say it like that. But I think we all hope something, right?” Harry grins right back at me and I slowly let my eyes close, nodding once, but firmly at his statement – or question.

“Hm.” I agree verbally, wanting to lay my head again against his shoulder but he stops me, his eyes searching mine tentatively as I keep frozen in my spot. I let a low breath slip past my opened lips, my tongue darting out to wet them before I suck my bottom lip into my mouth, slowly biting down on it.

Something seems to click in Harry’s mind and before I can completely comprehend what is happening or is about to happen, Harry leans in but hovers right before his lips are about to meet mine. He lets me decide if I want this – if I want to kiss him and as soon as my brain has caught up to current events, I lean the short distance and press my lips firmly against his.

Harry’s large hand cups my cheek and for a second I feel like I might burst out into tears of happiness, but instead I settle for a large grin which almost breaks up our kiss. I feel the vibrations of Harry’s chuckle against my lips as my eyelids flutter.

Harry pulls away, keeping his hand in place, as he seems to catch his breath. His lips press to mine once more in a gentle, simple peck right as the last few fireworks make their last pop in front of us, illuminating the dark night sky.

Reasons to go see the new Power Rangers movie

I’m a child of the 90′s. Power Rangers reigned supreme in my household when I was growing up. And when my brother, who is 9 years younger than me, started getting into Power Rangers, it was a way for us to bond. So obviously I was excited about the reboot.

Listen, I might be biased because of my nostalgia, but damn did I love this movie! Here’s why everyone should leave their house immediately and go watch this film.

1. Diverse Cast: I don’t really need to say it, but this cast is insanely diverse! So many different groups are represented in this movie! Every ranger is of a different ethnicity, which is acknowledged and appreciated by each member! And, beyond the surface differences that can be seen, there is an LGBTQ ranger and a ranger who is on the autism spectrum. One of my favorite parts is that we don’t need to speculate whether or not he might have special needs - he just comes right out and says it. “I’m on the spectrum…It’s a diagnosis.” And while he might have been protected a little more by the others, they didn’t try to baby him which is common for a lot of people who don’t often interact with people who have special needs. Instead, they utilized his strengths and worked with him to build his weaknesses.

2. Fantastic Acting: I gotta give a shout out to the actors who played the rangers. Holy cow, were y’all amazing! I’m honestly stunned with Becky G’s performance and how well she did, but that’s mostly because I haven’t followed her music career and seen what she can do. Girl, you were so good! And I believe that this was the first movie some of them have ever acted in. I’ll admit that the script was a little corny sometimes, but honestly it was 10X better than any script from the tv show, and the actors played them SO GOOD!!!!!

3. Great Chemistry: Some of these friendships felt so authentic and beautiful to me. A few interactions didn’t really excite me (Zack & Jason, mostly), but the rest of them held their own. Kimberly & Trini and Jason & Billy, for instance. The two girl rangers had such amazing chemistry together and every scene they did felt like they’d been friends their whole lives. There’s a lot of people shipping those two, but I’d be genuinely upset if anything less platonic happened between them. I just want Kimberly to be the girl friend that Trini comes to for girlfriend advice because their friendship is so great! Jason & Billy really were the BROTP of the movie though. The way Billy always looked to Jason for any minor thing had me laughing my ass off.

4. A Really Good Bad Guy: Anyone who’s ever seen the tv show knows that Rita Repulsa was kind of lame. She did the same thing every episode and hardly ever left her evil lair to do her own dirty work. Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa was actually kind of a scary bad guy. She wasn’t all talk, and the girl wasn’t afraid to get nasty. I can appreciate that in a villain.

5. Nostalgia: If you were also a big fan of the tv show, this movie has loads of amazing easter eggs for you! I was literally in the theater chanting “Megazord! Megazord! Megazord!” Not to mention Alpha’s “aye aye aye,” and the songs being played, and just ugh! My childhood heart was hurting.

6. Potential Sequel: The ending was set up for a sequel (wait for the credits and an extra scene will come) and honestly it has so much potential for what could come of the power rangers! I need it, and frankly, it hasn’t done that well at the box office so without your support there might not be a sequel at all!

All in all, this movie was really good and I would just love to share it with everyone and tell them to love it!

Baby Sis ♡ Daniel Seavey Imagine

Title: Baby Sis

Pairing: Daniel x Fem!Reader

Word Count: 1,182

Summary: You like one of the WDW boys and Logan doesn’t approve.

Warning(s): An argument between Logan and the reader, maybe one or two cuss words?

A/N: Thanks so much for the request @carolyn5sos! I wasn’t quite sure how to end it, but I hope you like it. If anyone would like to request a fic, you can do so here! (This fic wasn’t edited, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes.)

Being the youngest Paul wasn’t exactly the easiest thing in the world. Like your brothers, you had acting aspirations and had moved to L.A. to chase your dreams. In between acting jobs, you ran a Youtube account, usually focusing on more artistic expression than Logan’s vlog style or Jake’s prank content. However, being a Paul, you were cast in the same light as your brothers. People rarely took you seriously and believed you to be a carbon copy of your Logan and Jake.

Enter the Why Don’t We boys. Because Logan had become friends with the band and had directed some of their music videos, it was inevitable that you would meet them. You expected them to treat you the same way everyone else did. You never in a million years thought one of them would recognize you from your own content.

Mr. Daniel Seavey took you by surprise the second you met him. On the day Logan was filming the video for the Nobody Gotta Know video, you had come into the apartment after running some errands to find a group of boys huddled in the kitchen eating lunch. One of them, the one with the most beautiful blue eyes, looked up at you and grinned. The butterflies in your stomach went crazy.

Hey he said. I’ve seen you on Youtube beforeI’m a big fan, actually.

You didn’t remember the last time someone recognized you from your own work. Your legacy was being the youngest Paul. You never felt like you were your own person. Then, suddenly, there was this kid—a very attractive kid, no less—that knew you because of something you did. Not something about Jake. Not something about Logan. You, and you alone.

After that day, Daniel became your best friend. Whenever you two were together, you were attached by the hip. Whenever you were apart, you always, always, always texted each other. If you didn’t text, you Facetimed each other or sent each other embarrassing Snapchats. You always found a way to talk to each other, even if it was just a #tbt on Instagram.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise when you started to develop feelings beyond friendship. You were almost positive that Daniel felt the same way. When you were together, he always seemed to be reaching out to hold your hand or was wrapping an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close to him. You hugged a bit too long. You always greeted each other first, ignoring everyone in the room until one of you said hi to the other one. But neither of you ever made a move to  turn your friendship into an actual relationship. One thing stood in the way of that, and his name was Logan Paul. The day you met the boys was always the day that Logan declared that none of the boys were allowed to date you. You were officially off limits.

But Logan knew something was up—contrary to popular belief, he was far from stupid. He knew his baby sister liked someone, but he couldn’t figure out who. He didn’t like not knowing. After all, he felt like it was his responsibility to protect you from the heartbreak and pain of the real world. So, he made it his personal mission to figure out who the hell you liked.

One day, you were in the living room, brainstorming ideas for a new video when Logan came wandering in. He sat across from you, smiling. You knew something was up almost immediately. He wasn’t vlogging, he wasn’t try to scare you for the views. You gave him a suspicious look and said, “Hey, what’s up?”

“Oh, nothing, just wanna hang out with my baby sis. I feel like I haven’t actually talked to you in forever” he said.

“Okay?” you said, raising a brow. “Is there anything you wanna talk about or?”

He shook his head. Then, a moment later, he asked, “Is there anybody you like?”

Your face turned red. “Um, why?”

“Well, girls your age are supposed to crush on people, right?”

“Ummm, there’s this one guy I like? I don’t know if it’ll turn into an actual relationship or not…but I do like him a bit.”

A grin stretched across Logan’s face. “Oh, really? Who’s the lucky guy that’s won you over?”

“I’m not going to tell you that!” you laughed. “You’re probably going to harass him or some shit.”

“C’mon, I gotta know who my baby sis likes! It’s my responsibility as your older brother to interrogate all potential love interests!”

“Logan, no!”

“Oh, at least gimme a hint!”

You thought for a moment, trying to figure out the least obvious hint ever. “Ummm, it’s someone you know.”

He frowned. “Someone I know? You wouldn’t date anyone I know! Unless…Unless you like one of the Why Don’t We boys!”

Your eyes widened. You didn’t think he’d figure it out that first. Upon seeing your reaction, he said, “Oh, so it is? Y/N, you know you can’t date one of them!”

“I can’t help that I like Daniel!” you snapped, too upset to realize that you revealed your crush. “It’s not like I can control who I’m attracted to!”

Logan rolled his eyes. “Yes you can! It’s as simple as not liking someone! You know that you can’t date any of the boys!”

“Wait, are you seriously pissed about this? Logan, I can date whoever the hell I want to!”

“No, you can’t!” Logan shouted. “You are not allowed to date any of the boys! And especially not Daniel!”

Neither of you had realized that the Why Don’t We boys had come in. You’d forgotten that you had invited them over. But when you heard one of them cough awkwardly, both yours and Logan’s head snapped over to stare at them. Your face became even redder as you wondered how much they heard.

Your eyes landed on Daniel and tried to gauge his reaction. He was staring with wide eyes, looking between you and Logan.

No one said anything.

Then, Daniel said quietly, “You want to date me?”

You were afraid to talk, afraid to trip over your words. You nodded.

A small smile graced Daniel’s lips. “I’d like to take you out sometime.”

Logan jumped in. “Um, in case you’ve forgotten, none of you are allowed to date my sister!”

You stared at Logan. “Please, just trust me to make my own decisions.”

Logan didn’t anything for a long time. He would look at you, then at Daniel, then back to you. Finally, he stood up, pointing a finger at Daniel and said, “If you break her heart, I will end you.”

He left the room and the other boys wandered off, leaving you and Daniel alone. You stood up and walked over to him. “I hope you make this date worthwhile. If you take me on a crappy first date, I don’t think Logan ever let you be me boyfriend.”

Daniel grinned. “Trust me, I’ll be taking you on the best first date ever imagined.”

Oh Kimilia

Ok, so I have been holding this in too long but I can’t help it now. I mean, I ship jonerys and dream of targ babies and all but I have now progressed to shipping them in real life. I know, I know. I’m gonna get hate for this again. First incest and now this ‘love triangle’ shit I’m dreaming of. But I just want to make it clear. I’m delusional and I shall ship however I want as long as Kit and Emilia don’t know I exist! LOL!!

Anyway, I wanna share what i think their friendship is like(Warning: Please treat my thoughts like a fanfic, ok!). So guy meets girl and both were instantly attracted to each other. But they were young, like 22 I think then. So yeah, committed relationship with this hot guy/girl while I’m just starting out in possibly my biggest first career breakout show? Nah, they’d tell themselves that. Let’s just hang out and flirt and…maybe… ahem get drunk and horny and… who knows right? But DON’T get into a relationship with this guy/girl. At least, that’s what I think Em felt. Her friend-zoning efforts I believe was a cautious move to not ruin a friendship she preferred to keep it precious especially when he’s a comfortable co-worker. Plus I doubt she trusted pretty Kit to stay faithful to her when they were always filming apart.

As for Kit, he probably was attracted to Emilia’s beautiful, bubbly nature at first. And because Em loves to kid around, he probably could not take her seriously BUT BUT he would probably be game for a game of flings if she didn’t mind of course. I mean, he was 22. He was young and probably horny all the time. But Oh wells, the game of flings did not work out well since he hardly got to see her when she’d gone to another faraway location to shoot. Wait! There was a photo shoot with her in a few months. Yeah! He missed that girl! Great! Oh, oh…the photographer was asking them to kiss. Seriously?! Well, why not? let the game of flings begin again. Or maybe game of love? Oh she let him kiss her!!! Hmm, awesome, maybe this could work. “Hey dude! Was great seeing you again! But I gotta run. Agent needs me at a movie casting meeting.” Em kissed Kit on the cheek this time! You see, we all know Em’s career was, is soaring. I mean, c’mon, she’s Khaleesi!

Then came season 2 and young Kit fell in love. YEAH! But of course not with Em. Coz yeah, she was busy gathering an army across the narrow sea while he got sexy red-haired Rose getting cozy with him. Unlike Em, Rose was so not friend-zoning him coz she’s gonna ‘die’ anyway and leave the set of GOT in a year…and there was nothing to lose when they were both attracted to each other and can still see each other outside the set. Congrats Kit!

Yup, Em has to congratulate Kit for that too. She friendzoned him so she should congratulate the guy she was quite sure he wasn’t boyfriend material when she first met him. And who wouldn’t wanna become best friends with Emilia, huh?! Rose be thinking “thanks for friend-zoning him so i can have him, Em! I wanna be your best friend now, sweetie!” Lucky Rose! Like seriously, I ENVY HER! Hot boyfriend and a hot best friend. I swear Em felt a little envious too so she went and hook up with a guy with a resume for great humor writing and producing. Basically a guy who makes her laugh since Em is such a humorous person herself. She deserves a funny guy. But alas, busy Em gets no boyfriend time so bye funny guy.

And then, years later, yes, thanks to D&D, I got to enjoy episodes of eye sex and one hot less than a minute boat sex between them. Right it’s simulated sex of course! Or else Rose would jump off the roof! I heard that Rose almost hit Kit when he told her of the finale scene. Hmm, I don’t blame the girl. My hot boyfriend and my hot best friend naked and kissing and…rubbing?! Whatever, I’m keeping close eye on the boyfriend. Give the paparazzi nothing to report on when they see us still going strong. Yeah and grab Em along for lunch with us as well! Eat that, gossip reporters!

So, how, like how can I still end up shipping the non-couple couple that is kimilia? I mean look at their friendship! SOOO CUTE!! Urgh I hate myself and I hate them for being this chummy! Season 8 has not started yet and I’m thinking how they will both be crying at the end of it because it’s the LAST season and they probably won’t get to work together again! And emotions be flying everywhere! I know mine would be! Oh God…Don’t let me go any further! I need to stop!

Anyway, when Ashton and Mila got together, I was like “They were so cute in The 70s show! It took them this long to hook up?!” I’ll just keep being delusional about kimilia that way too.

Just one more thought before I end my fanfic mind, how the hell is dear Emilia still single? I hope someone makes her happy, like seriously. This angel deserves it and I hope her wait for her king in real life ends soon!

The P-Word

This is a no miraculous AU. Also, this was inspired by the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air episode, ‘Geoffrey Cleans Up’ in which Geoffrey asks out a woman he likes. I wanted to just get this written already so I can focus more on the recent prompts I received. Hope you enjoy!

“I don’t understand what your problem is,” Nino drawled, rolling his eyes. Sometimes his best friend was just too dramatic when it came to simple, tiny issues. “Just pick up the phone and ask her out!”

“I can’t just ask her out!” Adrien protested, throwing his arms in front of him while making his point. “I wouldn’t know what to say. She’s talented, she’s selfless, she’s so nice…she can read!”

Nino just rolled his eyes again. The two were in the model’s room, trying to spend a day just relaxing and playing video games. But like usual, somehow their conversation steered toward Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the girl Adrien was utterly, irrevocably, nauseatingly in love with.

They had a rocky start on his first day, but apparently they later shared a special moment with an umbrella or something and agreed to be friends.

And he has been smitten ever since.

It’s been this way for a month, and honestly Nino was getting tired of hearing Adrien continuously gushing about Marinette. There’s only so much sap he can take.

Cue his suggestion to ask her out already.

But he, being the scaredy cat he was, refused.

Which brings them here.

“Look,” Nino began, casting a sharp gaze to his friend, who straightened at the serious look in his eyes. It would seem he would have to teach his magical skills with the ladies to Adrien. Normally he wouldn’t give guys advice on women, he couldn’t care less whether they ended up scoring or not, but he could tell the model was in dire need of his advice. “It’s not what you say, it’s what you don’t say.”

Adrien’s eyes narrowed as he tilted his head, regarding the aspiring DJ with a confused look. “What I don’t say?” he repeated for clarification.

“Exactly,” he confirmed. “Now, whatever you do, don’t tell her you like her, okay? Don’t tell her that you want to go out with her. And whatever you do, do not say the p-word.”

Adrien, still trying to comprehend the sense of Nino’s words, paused to ask a question. “The p-word?” He has heard many curse words since entering public school, but he couldn’t think of any horrible, offending ‘p-words’ at the top of his head that would upset Marinette.

“Yeah, ‘please’,” Nino answered. “It’ll make you sound desperate.” He reached over to the coffee table to pluck Adrien’s brand new cell phone, before presenting it to him with a grin. “Ready?”

Adrien swallowed, nervously looking down at the phone as if he could already hear Marinette’s rejection from it.

Then again, what would really be the harm in asking her? Sure, their friendship might never be the same, and it would make things extremely awkward between them…

But there was also the chance that she could say yes, go out with him, fall in love with him, marry him, and then make three babies with him. He could have the family he always wanted, and he would most definitely be a better father than his own.

Nino cleared his throat, raising his eyebrows expectantly.

Hm. Maybe he should just concentrate on asking her out.

His eyebrows furrowed as his green eyes flashed in determination. He nodded once.

“I’ll try.”

Biting his lower lip, he reached out and took the offered cell phone. With a few taps of his finger he was soon hovering over Marinette’s name.

“Go on,” Nino encouraged excitedly, “you got this, bro!”

He allowed a small smile to grace his features before pressing her name.

As it rang, Adrien couldn’t help but thoroughly ponder over Nino’s advice. Would that really work? He didn’t want to doubt his best friend, but when he was younger his mother (when she was still around) would always tell him that honesty was the best policy.

And that when he was older, girls would want him to be completely honest. He didn’t really understand then, asking questions like ‘what girls?’ but now he understood it perfectly.

Besides, he knew for a fact that Marinette hated liars.

When her sweet voice asking, ‘hello?’ reached his ears, his mouth formed into a tight line as he internally prayed that what he was about to attempt would work.

“Hi, Marinette! I just wanted to tell you…”

He stole a look at Nino, who nodded, silently pressing him to go on.

Adrien grinned mischievously. “…how much I like you.”

Nino’s mouth dropped. “Dude, no! No!” he objected in horror, mixed with annoyance. He just completely botched his chance, doing the exact opposite of what he told him to do!

“You are the most beautiful, kind, selfless, most talented girl I’ve ever known.”

As Adrien went on, Nino began flailing his arms, desperately trying to get him to shut up before he screwed it up even further. However, the model seemed completely oblivious to his panic.

“And I would be truly honored if you would go out with me tonight to the movies.”

“Don’t say it, don’t you dare say it,” Nino hissed, his eyes daring him to speak the forbidden word.

Adrien grinned, his friend’s antics replacing his earlier nerves with amusement and effectively making him braver.

“Augh!” Nino huffed in exasperation, standing off the couch and throwing his arms in the air.

“You will?!” Adrien gasped in happiness, making Nino pause in his quiet rampage.

“Awesome! I’ll pick you up at six. See you then!”

With that, Adrien removed the phone from his ear and placed it back on the coffee table. A rare, wicked smirk spread his lips as he stood and made his way over to his gaping best friend.

He patted his shoulder before going to his walk-in closet.

“So, you think I should wear a nice shirt and jeans? Or go for khakis and a button down?”

Nino scowled as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. “Doesn’t matter, since you’ll do the opposite of what I say, anyway,” he grumbled, but walked to Adrien to try to help nonetheless.

Meanwhile, in a bakery not too far away, a certain budding designer was currently passed out in her own best friend’s arms. She giggled as she gently tapped on her face in an effort to coax her awake.

After all, they only had six hours in order to prepare for the hot date.

I was bored and did a thing. GarRae NTT style, for a challenge. Contains some adult content. You’ve been forewarned.

There was something ethereal about the way the moonlit heavens reflected on the calm waters. It was eerily captivating, how the lake could mirror the clear, night sky, with all the starlight shimmering in rippling, midnight blues. Almost as if it envied its majestic beauty, and, for the rarest of times, claiming it for itself in hopeless imitation. What flattery.

Raven could understand it; she could relate to the way in which sky and sea often appeared to meld together, to touch, to become one, just beyond the horizon. Forever apart, and yet always longing to unite.

She watched him with a similar longing, an all too familiar ache that no single moment could cure. She, too, felt the jealousy, only with her, it was for the rivulets of water that rolled down the lithe muscles of his back, the curve of his broad shoulders, the defined lines of his biceps, in between the bones of his shoulder blades. She longed to be the drops that streamed down the length of his nose, over his parted lips, and dripping from his chin. Each time he dipped beneath the dark, inky surface, his arms working strict, strong strokes in perfect, disciplined unison, she envied the way that the water would encapsulate him so completely, claiming him for itself.

This is the sort of thing that happens with actors, Jacob knows that.

Close quarters, forced and immediate intimacy; a sort of emotional cabin fever, though not an unpleasant one. Of course you fall in love with your co-stars. Of course you do; at least a little; your life now suddenly revolving around them in brief, ecstatic bursts of intensity. You have to love and hate instantly; that’s part of the job, a job Jacob is good at. He’s seen it happen, and when it happens to him, he lets it fuel him and waits for it to go away. He is pretending to be a man pretending, feigning, acting; repression is second nature, at this point and for his career. Of course it will go away; he is not really in love with Jodie Comer.

just us two - luke hemmings (part 4)

Luke knew that parenthood was never going to be easy when his girlfriend left him standing in the delivery ward with their baby clasped in his hands. his 5 year old daughter striking up a feud with the son of a coldly beautiful single mum was not a complication he had anticipated though. nor was falling in love with her.

part 1 / part 2 / part 3

Luke spent the next week in a now sickeningly familiar mix of excited anticipation and guilt. No matter how hard he tried to distract himself with work and with Luna he still found his thoughts straying back to Y/N. The week passed in a blur of constant motion until it was Sunday morning and Luke once again found himself nursing a large cup of coffee after a sleepless night.

‘Morning daddy.’ Luna chirped as she came and pulled herself into his lap.

'Morning baby, did you sleep well?’ Luke asked after he had placed a kiss on the top of her head.

'Uh-huh.’ she nodded happily, turning to look up at him. 'Today’s the day we’re going to the beach isn’t it daddy?’

'Yes it is, clever you for remembering.’ he chuckled, feeling himself grow happier instantly at her innocent enthusiasm.

'Of course I remembered!’ she exclaimed. 'We’re going with Sampson and me and Sampson are friends now.’

'Well I’m very glad you were so grown up and sorted out your differences. Now come on scoot that cute butt I need to go and pack all our stuff up.’ Luke said, swinging Luna off his lap and back onto the floor.

'Does that mean I can watch cartoons while I have breakfast?’ she asked with expectant eyes.

'Only if you save an episode to watch with me.’ he smiled, soon laughing as she dashed into the living room calling out a thank you behind her.

Luke busied himself finding suncream and beach towels and bathing suits and spare clothes and rubber rings and the hundreds of things it took for a day at the beach with a 5 year old. After loading up the car he finally sat down next to Luna on the living room floor, offering her a bowl of cheerios as he did so.

'So which episode are we on?’ he asked, nodding towards the TV as he took a spoonful of his own bowl.

'Kim is just about to save Ron daddy shush!’ Luna said excitedly around her mouthful.

'Lu-lu, what did we say about talking with our mouth full?’ he reprimanded her lightly.

'Sorry daddy.’ she giggled, mouth still full of cereal.

'What am I gonna do with you?’ he shook his head, unable to stop himself from laughing as well.

'Is me walking in on your shirtless going to be a regular occurrence Hemmings?’

Three years ago, Oscar Isaac was an obscure actor in his mid-30s who didn’t seem to be going anywhere very fast. Small parts in films like Che, Robin Hood and Madonna’s disastrous Wallis Simpson biopic W.E. hadn’t attracted much notice, and he was still auditioning for theatre plays and TV shows when the Coen brothers asked him to try out for their 2013 film Inside Llewyn Davis.

A wry drama set in 1960s Greenwich Village and telling the story of a struggling folk musician, it was a role tailor-made for Issac, who’s a musician himself and still regularly performs. He got the part, was nominated for a Golden Globe and suddenly every casting agent in Hollywood was interested in him.

Rumor Has It

I didn’t really know where to take this story and then it just kind of turned into this. I want to preface this by saying I know most everyone has been bullied about something at one time or another in their life, for me it’s always been my weight, so I wrote what is a real struggle for me and what helps me stay my most authentic self.

Rumor Has It

It doesn’t matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
‘cause you were born this way, baby
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir
“There’s nothing wrong with loving who you are”
She said, “'Cause he made you perfect, babe”
“So hold your head up girl and you’ll go far,
Listen to me when I say”

I’m beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Don’t hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Oh there ain’t no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Oh there ain’t no other way
Baby I was born this way
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don’t be a drag ‒ just be a queen
Don’t be!

She knew she was different. She always has been. Always will be, and until she met Happy, she embraced her differences. She’s rounder in places that society told her she should be thinner, she has no thigh gap to speak of, and when it comes down to it, she’s about as far from beautiful as you can get.

Yet she is unapologetically happy. She lives with a spirit so on fire that it’s contagious.

Or so she thought.

She stares at the women who fawn over Happy; women in impeccable shape walking on sky high heels that if she ever dared to wear would surely end in her breaking her ass, or neck, and for the first time since she was in high school she feels acutely aware of just how much she doesn’t fit in.

She feels herself shrinking, her usually outgoing personality dimming and when she’s certain no attention will be called to her she slips outside.

The air is uncharacteristically cool as she takes a breath. She’ll be fine, she knows that much, she just has to find her center again, that’s all. She rests against the wall of TM, fishing in her purse for a cigarette when she hears a group of girls giggling around the corner.

“Did you see what she was wearing?” one demands her voice dripping with disgust.

“Seriously, what does Happy want with two tons of fun anyway?” another asks resulting in a cackle of laughter that makes her stomach flip with shame.

“Rumor is he made a bet with some of the guys,” their voices drop to a whisper, “hundred bucks if he can get Miss Piggy into bed, double if he manages to get her squealing on tape…”

She fears she’s going to be sick, and because she doesn’t know if she’ll be able to keep quiet she presses a hand to her mouth as if she can hold the sobs that threaten and bubble at bay with her fingers. The group of girls pass eventually, of course not without taking a few more shots at her, and when she’s certain she’s alone she pulls the keys from her purse. She knows she should tell him that she’s leaving, but at the moment being anywhere near Happy makes her want to cry, and she refuses to give any of them the satisfaction of seeing her tears.

Candles flicker, casting shadows around her room, and with blurred eyes she watches the way the flames dance. She’s managed to leave the house only a handful of times since the party, and because just the thought of it makes her head and chest ache she closes her eyes.

It’s always amazed her how deep words can cut a person, and having been on the receiving end of harmful words for most of her life she would think she’d be used to it by now; but how does someone get used to be hating for simply existing? What do you do when the mere fact that you draw breath draws ire from just about everyone you meet?

So her thoughts turn dark; and she wonders what would happen if she didn’t exist anymore, if she just, disappeared…

“Liv, sweetie, open up,” the panicked voice of Venus, one of her nearest and dearest friends calls through the door, but she can’t bring herself to get up. “Sweet heart, we’re all real worried about you, especially Happy, why he’s just a mess over you darlin’.”

Her eyes close tight as against the tears that threaten. He’s been by almost every day since the party, rotating between pounding on the door and demanding she let him in, to begging for her to at least answer so he knows she’s okay, both requests going unanswered.

“Liv, I’m going to use my key,” Venus calls again, but she just doesn’t have it in her to care. She listens as the front door opens and closes, the familiar sound of Venus’ high heels beating a staccato rhythm on her floor, and then her vision is filled with Venus’ beautiful face.

Their friendship was quick, kindred and wild spirits recognizing each other upon introduction and because of that there weren’t many days that went by without at the very least a text or two exchanged between the two.

“Oh my little love,” Venus coos joining her on the bed, “I’ve been worried sick…”

“I was a bet V…” Liv’s voice breaks as she speaks, a tear rolling hot down her cheek. She thought she was all cried out.

She was wrong.

“What are you talking about sugar?” Venus asks at length as she brushes at the hair on Liv’s forehead.

“Girls at the party, said Happy had a bet going with some of the guys, hundred dollars if he got me in bed…” the words hitch as she speaks, “double if he got it on tape…”

“And you believed them?” Venus asks pointedly.

“You can’t look at me V and tell me you wouldn’t believe it…”

Give yourself prudence
And love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice your truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth
A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M (Hey hey hey)
I love my life I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (Love needs faith)

I’m beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Don’t hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Oh there ain’t no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Oh there ain’t no other way
Baby I was born this way
I’m on the right track, baby

Don’t be a drag ‒ just be a queen
Don’t be!

She takes it one day at a time, fully aware that not every day is going to be great, and as weird as it sounds she revels in the small victories. Like making it to the grocery store again, or running to post office for stamps.

Venus stops by almost daily and while part of her wonders if she visits simply to make sure she’s still here, another part of her is thankful. She needs a friendly face and you don’t get much friendlier than Venus.

Her arms are full with bags of ingredients for the small dinner party she’s having, and when she steps onto her porch and finds Happy sitting, back braced to the wall, chewing at a toothpick it takes everything inside of her not to drop the bags in surprise.

She’s not ready to see him yet.

He gets to his feet, towering over her and when he reaches out she very nearly takes a step back until his hands clasp one of the paper bags in her arms, taking it so it will free up one of her hands.

“Thanks,” she murmurs sliding the key into the front door, and when it’s unlocked she turns to take her bag back only to find Happy standing uncomfortably close.

“I’ll bring this in for you.” He waits for no invitation as he brushes past her into her house, and taking a deep breath she calls on what little emotional energy she has, she’s going to need it if she’s going to survive seeing Happy again.

She’s aware that he stares at her back as she takes her time unpacking her groceries.

“You haven’t been around in a while,” his voice is a delicious rasp that sends a chill up her spine.

“Yeah uh, I’ve been busy,” she says offering a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes.

“Busy, hmm,” Happy murmurs as she carefully sets apples into the bowl on the counter. “Too busy to return a call, but not too busy to see Venus.”

“She’s my best friend,” her response is knee-jerk and she knows her voice gives away more than she intended.

“When are you going to tell me why you’ve been avoiding me?” he asks and because she doesn’t know how to answer, or where to even begin she just goes silent. The quiet stretches between them until finally the sound of the chair Happy was sitting in scraping against the floor fills the air. “I don’t have time for this.”

Fear fills her. Only it’s a different type of fear; one born from the idea that he’s going to simply walk away for good, and she’s never going to have the chance to find out if what they have-or had was real.

“They said I was a bet,” the words fall from her lips and turning she finds Happy frozen in the doorway of her kitchen, and with her eyes trained to him she watches him turn to her. His eyes narrow, jaw clenching tight.

“Some girls, at the party. They said you had a bet going with some of the guys, about getting me into bed. I’ll spare the actual words used to describe me…”

“And you believed them?” he asks disbelief ringing loud and clear.

“Look at me,” she says motioning to herself.

“I am looking, I have been from the moment I saw you,” he says closing the distance between them. “How are you going to let some gossipy bitches tear you down?”

“I’m not like them Happy,” she says shaking her head. “I will never be those girls. I don’t fit that world.”

“Says who, a few crow eaters? Fuck ‘em. You fit my world, and that’s all that matters,” he says hands coming to rest on her hips. “If I wanted someone like them, I’d have them. I want you Liv. I have from the moment I laid my eyes on you.”

“Happy…” her words are cut short by his mouth covering hers, and she feels the final broken pieces start shifting back into place.

anonymous asked:

do you have any spidey recs apart from the spideytorch ones?

Sorry for the wait, anon! These were a little hard to pick out – I feel more confident in my F4 reccing abilities than my Spider-Man reccing abilities, because my Spidey recs are more, I don’t know, personal entertainment-based rather than actual quality-based? (See: my last recommendation on this list.) Also, because there’s so much more Spider-Man – there’s still huge chunks of Amazing and Spectacular I haven’t read. I tried to throw in a mix of different time periods, tones, and books, but I’m tagging @maryjanewatson and @titanstogetherr for their recs as well since mine are so all over the place. Without further ado, a quick handful of picks I especially love:

Kraven’s Last Hunt: An absolute must-read. From wiki:  “Kraven’s Last Hunt” (also known as “Fearful Symmetry”) is a comic book storyline by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck published in 1987, featuring the final battle between Marvel Comics characters Kraven the Hunter and Spider-Man. The story was originally published in Web of Spider-Man #31-32, The Amazing Spider-Man#293-294, and The Spectacular Spider-Man #131-132.” Stunning all around.

Spider-Man: Blue: Many years after her death, Peter recounts the story of how he fell in love with Gwen Stacy - and how he met Mary Jane Watson.

Amazing Spider-Man: Family Business: A mysterious woman claiming to be Peter’s sister crashes into his life, sending them both on a round-the-world mission. This is basically a really fun action movie in Spider-Man comic form, with absolutely stunning art. Also, Peter wrecks a casino barehanded while wearing a nice tux.

Spectacular Spider-Man 112: One of my favorite Christmas issues, ft a robber dressed like Santa, Peter’s neighbors Candi, Randi and Bambi, a very confusing Mary Jane in the bath pin-up page, Felicia Hardy: Christmas angel, Peter getting smooched by Joy Mercado, and gorgeous art.

Amazing Spider-Man 290-92: The engagement of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. This is really more of a Mary Jane story than a Peter one, since it’s about her facing her past before she can move forward with Peter, but I love it, so it’s on the list. It’s a great look at Peter in love, and what a great team Peter and MJ make together.

Amazing Spider-Man Annual 35: Mary Jane and Peter are reunited after her captivity and presumed death. I’m honestly just listing this one for this one scene I love SO MUCH.

Sensational Spider-Man v2 28: Peter’s unmasking during Civil War, told from the perspective of one of his students. Teacher is by far my favorite occupation Peter’s ever held, and this issue is a great example of why.

Amazing Spider-Man 583: The time Marvel put Obama on the cover and tricked all of America into buying a comic about how Peter Parker is Betty Brant’s BFF. I’m a huge sucker for this friendship, and the whole story is great.

Amazing Spider-Man 595-599 (American Son): Peter reacts, violently, to Norman Osborn’s attempts to bring Harry into his regime during Dark Reign. If you have ever for one second shipped Harry and Peter, this is a must read. (When I say “must read”, I mean, Norman flat out asks if Spider-Man is in love with Harry.)

Marvel Knights Spider-Man volume 2 (99 Problems): “From the haunted heights of a mysterious castle to the dizzying depths of the deep seas, the Amazing Spider-Man has to take on not one, not six, not twelve – but ninety-nine of the Marvel Universe’s deadliest villains to save the lives of countless innocents!” This one is honestly just visually amazing. It’s only five issues, and it’s beautiful to look at.

FF volume 1: Cheating a little, since it’s tangentially Spideytorch-related, but honestly I just think it’s a really good example of Peter on a team: after Johnny’s death, he wills Peter his spot on the Fantastic Four, who in the wake of the tragedy rebrand themselves as the Future Foundation.

Scarlet Spider volume 2: Okay, this one isn’t technically a Spider-Man book, but if you can’t count clones who can you count. Peter’s clone Kaine, free for the first time in his life from the degeneration that plagued him, decides to head to Mexico – feet in the sand, drink in the hand, and no responsibility. He ends up in Houston with a surrogate family, a superhero identity, and all the responsibility. Great lead, great supporting cast, some of the funniest issues I’ve ever read and a finale that made me cry.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man: The best comic ever written. Am I overselling it? No, absolutely not. Read it. I almost don’t want to say anything about it because spoiling one single thing would be horrible. Starring the new Sinister Six, led by Boomerang. Just read it.

Ultimate Spider-Man/Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Ultimate Spider-Man is a really good place to start if the sheer number of 616 Spider-Man stories seems overwhelming. (Also if you want to read about teen Peter, since that part of his history is actually really brief in 616 despite it being one of his most fandom-represented periods.) Starts as an updated origin and branches off into wholly its own thing, with a spectacular supporting cast and a truly amazing Aunt May and my absolute favorite Gwen Stacy ever. (Ultimate Spider-Man v3 stars Miles Morales, and is a must read all on its own.)

Spider-Men: A 5 issue miniseries that features 616 Peter falling into the Ultimate universe and meeting his counterpart’s successor, Miles Morales.

Spider-Man: The New Animated Series: This isn’t a comic, and it’s not really good, but I’m reccing it anyway because it was weirdly formative for baby Spider-Man fan Traincat. It’s a 13 episode show that ran on MTV in 2003. Neil Patrick Harris voices Peter! Peter, MJ and Harry are all in some weird emotional threesome! Peter spends the entire series in purple jeans! If you watch one episode (you should probably only watch one episode), it should be the one where Peter tries to break Harry up with his hot new girlfriend, who also happens to be a thrill junkie cat burglar. Here’s the truly terrible trailer.

17 Films That Will Make You Feel All the Feels This Valentine's Day

I think we can all agree that Valentine’s Day is the absolute worst. If you are single, it makes you feel like shit about your single status and if you are in a relationship, it puts too much pressure on you and your partner to have a perfect romantic evening.

BUT…Valentine’s Day can be a fantastic excuse to binge on loads of dark chocolate/ice cream/soft red wine, snuggle up with your best friends and watch all your favorite romantic movies. Be sure to alternate between movies that are pure feel-good fluff and movies that rip your heart out and leave you ugly crying and reaching for the nearest box of tissues.

Check out the following list of some of my favorite romantic movies and start planning a Galentine’s Day that would make Leslie Knope proud!

1. Amélie (2001)

The highest-grossing French film to hit America, Amélie is about a shy and thoughtful girl (Audrey Tautou) who loves finding creative ways to bring happiness to others. When she falls in love with a mysterious man (Mathieu Kassovitz) on the subway, Amélie devises a plan to lead him to her. Along the way, she must decide if she is ready to take the risk and truly open herself up to finding her own happiness.

Directed by: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Starring: Audrey Tautou, Mathieu Kassovitz
IMDb Rating: 8.5/10
Reasons to Watch: EVERYTHING. The beautiful colors. The score by Yann Tiersen. The traveling gnome. The first five minutes. Audrey Tautou.

2. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

This Oscar-nominated film addresses issues of mental illness and past failures in a way that is humanizing and relatable. After a brief period in a mental hospital, Pat (Bradley Cooper) moves back in with his parents until he can get his life in check. Along the way, he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a younger woman with a dark past of her own.

Directed by: David O. Russell
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles, John Ortiz
IMDb Rating: 7.8/10
Reasons to Watch: The chemistry between Bradley and JLaw. The dance sequences (I literally cried during the final dance recital scene). The feel good ending.

3. Love, Rosie (2014)

Rosie (Lily Collins) and Alex (Sam Claflin) have been best friends since they were kids. As they get older, the terms of their friendship become more complicated and their bond is tested in more ways than one (unplanned pregnancies, moves across oceans, cheating spouses, missed opportunities). The film focuses on the twelve years between Rosie’s 18th birthday and the night of Alex’s wedding to Bethany (Suki Waterhouse). Love, Rosie is a very cute chick-flick that will pull at your heartstrings and leave you with lots of feelings.

Directed by: Christian Ditter
Starring: Lily Collins, Sam Claflin, Jaime Winstone, Christian Cooke, Suki Waterhouse
IMDb Rating: 7.4/10
Reasons to Watch: The chemistry between Lily and Sam is ON POINT. Sam Claflin’s dimples, dance moves and British accent. The soundtrack. Jaime Winstone as Rosie’s other best friend, Ruby. The cinematography. SAM CLAFLIN & LILY COLLINS PERIOD END OF STORY.

4. Stuck in Love (2012)

While I could do without the plot holes and a few rather annoying characters, Stuck in Love is a cute romantic comedy about the various members of the Borgens family and their messy love lives. Bill (Greg Kinnear) is a moderately famous author who is sleeping around with Tricia (Kristen Bell), but is still hung up on his ex-wife Erica (Jennifer Connelly). High school student and hopeless romantic Rusty (Nat Wolff) is infatuated with Kate (Liana Liberato), a beautiful but damaged girl in his English class. Samantha (Lily Collins) is a promiscuous college student and recently published writer who begins to change her skeptical outlook on love when she begins to fall for Louis (Logan Lerman).

Directed by: Josh Boone
Starring: Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Kristen Bell, Nat Wolff, Lily Collins, Logan Lerman and Liana Liberato
IMDb Rating: 7.3/10
Reasons to Watch: Nat Wolff as the sweet stoner who loves Stephen King and writing poetry. The scene when Louis (Logan Lerman) plays his favorite Elliott Smith song for Samantha (Lily Collins). The memorable quotes about writing and the writing process.

5. Before Sunrise (1995)

Before Sunrise is the story of a young man (Ethan Hawke) and woman (Julie Deply) who meet on a train while traveling in Europe and end up spending a romantic evening together in Vienna.  The film is full of thoughtful dialogue and showcases the magic of chance meetings and life’s spontaneous events.  If you like this film, make sure you watch its sequels, Before Sunset (2004) and Before Midnight (2012).

Directed by: Richard Linklater
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy
IMDb Rating: 8.1/10
Reasons to Watch: The screenplay. The dialogue. The simplicity.

6. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan)  meet through a mutual friend when they both decide to move to NYC after graduating from the University of Chicago. Years pass and the two gradually progress from hostile acquaintances to intimate friends. As they become closer, they are constantly confronted with the question: “Can a man and a woman be friends, without sex getting in the way?”

Directed by: Rob Reiner
Starring: Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan
IMDb Rating: 7.6/10
Reasons to Watch: Nora Ephron’s script. The ending which will forever ruin your expectations for New Year’s Eve. The couple interviews inserted throughout the movie. It’s a classic rom-com, you’ve gotta watch it.

7. While You Were Sleeping (1995)

Lucy (Sandra Bullock) is a ticket collector at a railway station in Chicago with a big time crush on a stranger named Peter (Peter Gallagher). When Peter gets caught in the railroad tracks and sent to the hospital, Lucy pretends to be his fiancé, which fools everyone in his family except his scruffy brother, Jack (Bill Pullman).

Directed by: Jon Turteltaub
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher
IMDb Rating: 6.6/10
Reasons to Watch: Bill Pullman as the laid-back man’s man in a plaid shirt with a heart of gold. Cuteness overload with a side of heavy fluff. The scenes with Jack & Peter’s family.

8. Roman Holiday (1953)

When a beautiful young princess becomes bored with her highly supervised travels through Europe, she decides to break free for a night of adventure in Rome. After she has made her escape, Princess Anne becomes acquainted with Joe Bradley, an American journalist who sees her rebellion as an opportunity for a story.

Directed by: William Wyler
Starring: Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck, Eddie Albert
IMDb Rating: 8.1/10
Reasons to Watch: The chemistry between Hepburn & Peck. The scenes from Rome. A sweet, good old-fashioned love story. The ending may make you cry.

9. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

Based on the life-changing book by Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a coming-of-age film that tells the story of Charlie (Logan Lerman), an introverted freshman who becomes friends with two upperclassman, Sam (Emma Watson) and Patrick (Ezra Miller), who teach him about love, connection, confidence, friendship and how to feel alive. This movie isn’t only about love in the traditional romantic way, it also addresses love between family members, friends and how to love and accept yourself. THIS MOVIE WILL CAUSE YOU TO FEEL EVERY EMOTION & WILL MAKE YOU CRY.

Directed by: Stephen Chbosky
Starring: Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, Kate Walsh, Dylan McDermott, Nina Dobrev, Paul Rudd
IMDb Rating: 8.1/10
Reasons to Watch: EVERYTHING. This is hands down the best movie about high school I have ever seen and it will bring back feelings of nostalgia you didn’t even know existed. The cast is on point, especially the chemistry between Logan, Emma and Ezra. The soundtrack. The script and the quotable lines. It’s just a very special movie that everyone needs to see (more than once).

10. Juno (2007)

I cannot even begin to describe how obsessed I was with this movie when it first came out. Juno is a story of unplanned pregnancy, quirky young love, and the trials and tribulations of the adoption process.  The casting is spot-on and Diablo Cody won an Oscar for Best Screenplay (no surprise there).

Directed by: Jason Reitman

12. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

One of my favorite movies of all time, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a bit more heavy than many of the other films on this list. It’s a mixture of drama, romance and sci-fi that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you with a sense of new perspective after you finish watching it. After reading the synopsis on IMDb, I can not come up with anything better, so I am copying it here: “When their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a procedure to have each other erased from their memories. But it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.”

Directed by: Michel Gondry

14. 500 Days of Summer (2009)

500 Days of Summer tells the story of the relationship between Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a hopeless romantic, and Summer (Zooey Deschanel), a girl who doesn’t believe in love. Very funny and at times touching, the film tells the story out of sequence –making for a very interesting progression of time.  The ending is open to interpretation; just remember that a number of the movie’s promotional material included the disclaimer “this is not a love story”. FYI: I have seen this movie at least 10 times.

Directed by: Marc Webb

Set in New York City in 2001, Don’t Let Me Drown tells the story of Lalo (E.J. Bonilla) and Stefanie (Gleendilys Inoa), two teenagers who are struggling in the aftermath of 9/11. It’s a very sweet story of young love, with lots of heartbreaking scenes about abuse, race/ethnicity and losing loved ones.

Directed by: Cruz Angeles
Starring: E.J. Bonilla, Gleendilys Inoa, Gina Torres, Damián Alcázar, Ricardo Chavira, Yareli Arizmendi

Reasons to Watch: E.J. Bonilla. The performances of all the actors. The nuanced and complicated portrayal of race and ethnicity in NYC. The way the film deals with the aftermath of September 11th.

17. Mamitas (2011)

Borrowing from a number of traditional teenage rom-coms, Mamitas manages to pull off a touching and inspiring love story between Jordin (E.J. Bonilla), the school’s hot shot, and Felipa (Veronica Diaz-Carranza), the bookish girl who is eager to get a college scholarship.

Breakfast In Bed

So, I was browsing Tumblr, as you do, and I found this prompt from whatinthenameofjohnsmoustache

Prompt: Lily gets the sniffles and James tries to make her breakfast in bed while looking after baby Harry.

Lily sneezed again, her normally pale skin clammy with cold sweat as she shivered under the blankets. Her nightgown was rumpled and her auburn hair was raked up into an impossibly messy knot on top of her head, her breathing labored from her congestion. James’s eyes flickered to her every three seconds, concern taking over every feature of his face. “How are you feeling, love?” he asked worriedly.

“Bloody brilliant, like I could take on an entire gang of Death Eaters blindfolded,” she answered sarcastically. The raven-haired, bespectacled man next to her chuckled, folding her into his arms and snuggling her close, placing sweet kisses on her neck. A small smile fought its way onto Lily’s face despite her fatigue and illness as he did so, relishing the thought of having such an amazing, lovely, sexy, thoughtful husband. How could she have ever thought he was a toe-rag? Well…at the time, he had been, but now, now, he was the most perfect person on the planet and Lily loved him more than life itself. His lips continued their exploration of her soft, pale skin with fierce abandon. That is, until a cry came through the baby monitor that was placed on their nightstand. Lily moved to get out of bed to fetch and take care of Harry, but James looked at her incredulously.

“You aren’t getting out of bed, my beautiful flower,” he said sternly, casting a loving glance at his gorgeous wife. Even when sick, she was still most the glorious creature to walk the earth, in James’s opinion. His hazel eyes, sparkling with flecks of green and gold, were firm in his conviction.

            “James,” Lily began.

“No, Lils. I’ll take care of Harry; you, my love, will stay here, okay? Okay.” He answered his own question, sliding a maroon robe over his broad, shoulders, leaving it untied as he quickly hurried to his son’s room. James adored being a father, truly. The only things he felt as lucky for were his love affair with Lily and his friendship with his fellow Marauders. He hastened into the room, decorated in soft gold and maroon – Gryffindors until the very end, he and Lily were – and made his way over to the crib that housed a beautiful baby boy with the shock of messy black hair as his father, crying loudly for his mum and dad. James easily scooped him up, holding him close to his chest and bouncing him slightly before kissing his forehead. “Good morning, Harry,” he whispered.

Harry’s eyes opened to reveal the same green as his mother’s, only making James love him more. Harry James Potter was indeed the perfect mix of Lily and him, perhaps just the most perfect baby ever. Harry stared at his dad for a moment before James began to tickle him carefully, emitting a few shrill giggles before Harry relaxed against him. “Mummy’s sick, Harry. We’re going to make her breakfast, okay?” He knew he wouldn’t get a response from the little boy, instead moving to change his diaper before toting him down the stairs to the spacious kitchen that Lily enjoyed so much. James and Lily took turns with the cooking or did it together because both were actually quite skilled in the culinary department.

He put Harry into his little swing that was in the kitchen, turning it on, along with the soft ocean sounds setting, to keep the little tyke entertained. It was storming outside with rain pounding relentlessly against the windows and Harry was swaddled in a blue blanket, in his Gryffindor lion pajamas, watching his dad curiously. “We’re going to make Mummy some pancakes and bacon, aren’t we, Harry?” he said, smiling at his son over his shoulder. Harry seemed to gurgle in agreement as James quickly pulled all the fixings for pancakes out of the cabinets and began to mix the batter together, heating the pan with a bit of butter in the bottom, his gaze moving to Harry often, just to check that he was still okay. He started the bacon in a separate pan and chopped up some strawberries and a green apple on the side while the other items cooked. Harry watched the bacon sizzle with a questioning look before seeing James flip the pancake.

Then Harry’s accidental magic kicked in. “Oh! Shit!” James muttered, Harry levitating the pancake around the room.

“Harry! Harry, please stop!” he pleaded. The green-eyed baby boy just giggled mirthfully, as he watched the flapjack zoom around the room. James quickly drew his wand, halting the pancake in mid air and bringing it back down to the pan with relative ease, irritated with himself that he had totally forgotten his wand that was in his possession at all times. Soon enough, breakfast was done cooking and James plated it with ease, making his own as well before levitating both plates, along with two lap trays, up the stairs, with Harry held gently but steadily in his arms as he ascended the steps. Lily looked utterly exhausted, but pleased and relieved nonetheless to see her son and husband entering her bedroom. Then her eyes landed on the food that was floating beside James, raising a brow at him.

“You made me breakfast?” she questioned, astonished and grateful.

“Of course, love. I thought breakfast in bed was just what the doctor ordered. Harry helped of course,” he added with a mischievous grin, noting how adorable his wife looked while curled up in a ball under the gray bed covers. He set the food on the bedside table, setting up the tray tables and placing their plates on them, putting Harry on the pillow between them while they ate.

“When you say Harry helped,” Lily began. James smiled.

“I mean that he levitated your pancakes and sent them flying around the room,” he replied with a mirthful smirk. She laughed brightly, the circles under her eyes pronounced and her voice slightly more gravely than usual from her cold. The couple ate happily, laughing at jokes and sharing a few kisses because James refused not to touch his wife, even if she was sick.

“You’re going to end up ill, James,” she sighed.

“Don’t care… worth it,” he responded, leaning in and pressing his mouth, sweet and firm, against hers, tasting the strawberries she’d been working on. They finished eating soon enough and James sent all the dishes and trays downstairs with a flick of his wand as Lily wiggled her nightgown off so that Harry could breastfeed. He latched on happily and James was pleased to see that a bit of color had returned to Lily’s complexion as he did. She noticed James watching and blushed heavily, about to pull the covers over her exposed chest, but James didn’t let her, instead pressing another kiss to her lips. “You always get so flustered when I watch you, but its only because you are the most exquisite creature ever to exist.” She looked down, her cheeks tinged with pink, green eyes meeting his again.

“Yeah, but I mean I look awful because I’m ill and I’ve only just had Harry and I really need to –“

“Do nothing because you’re gorgeous,” James interrupted with finality, hating how self-conscious his wife was about her body. She’d just had a baby for Merlin’s sake! And still he loved every inch of her skin, perhaps even more than he had before; her legs were fuller, hips wider, chest more plush. She was entirely too stunning. He pulled her into his arms lovingly, careful not to interrupt Harry’s nursing, and enjoyed the simple pleasure of having his family with him.

“I love you, James. Thank you so much for breakfast,” Lily told him, sniffling slightly, irritating her, but making James chuckle heartily, the sound deep and velvety.

“I love you too, Lily. Thank you so much for being mine.”

A short one-shot written by me (Potemkinx) and inspired by a magic sketch by Flavialikestodraw.

“Oh, William, be a good boy and go help your father preparing tea, please!”. When his mother used that tone (sweet in a very annoying way, but still assertive), Sherlock knew that there was only one thing to do: obey, and do nothing else.

He headed to the kitchen, and out of the corner of his eye he saw his mother sprint to the corner cupboard in the living room, and retrieving a heavy photo album.

“Oh no…”, he groaned, as he watched her mother sitting by Molly’s side and open the album.

His father smirked, while preparing the tea-cups on a tray. “She took the family album, didn’t she?”

They could hear the two women starting to laugh in the living room, and Sherlock moved to stop them, but his father held him back. “You were such a cute baby, you don’t have anything to fear… Mycroft, on the other hand…”

Another burst of laughter arrived to the kitchen. Stealthily Sherlock hid behind the half-opened door, and watched as Molly and his mother cooed over a picture in particular.

“We took this picture a month after Redbeard came to our home. He used to follow William everywhere, looking after him as he were his own cub.”

The consulting detective watched as his pathologist smiled softly, while her fingertips stroked tenderly the picture. “He looks so… calm, almost angelic.”

His mother smiled at her flattery. “He was a pest, actually. Always on the move, in a perpetual race with his brother to show us who was the clever one. We worked ourselves to death to take this photo of him, sleeping like a little angel, with his dearest friend guarding his rest…”

“They were so beautiful together…”, Molly said, and Sherlock’s mother cast a glance at her son, who was still spying on them. “Yes, they were… And by the way, I know it might sound quite impudent being said by me, but my son is still quite charming, don’t you think?”

Molly blushed, watching as Sherlock and his father entered the room, carrying the tray with them. “Yes, I think you’re right, Mrs Holmes.”

“Right about what, dear?”, Sherlock’s father asked, while serving the tea to their host.

“Oh, just about the fact that I can’t wait for our son and his lovely pathologist to combine their genetic makeup, and give us a couple of wonderful grandchildren!”

“Mummy!”, Sherlock complained, while Molly started to giggle, almost hysterically. “Mrs Holmes, I think you are mistaken”, she started to explain, between her chuckles. “Sherlock and I… We are not a couple, we are only friends. Very good friends, but nothing more.”

“Are we?”, Sherlock asked, taken aback by her statement.

Molly looked at him, puzzled. “What, friends? Of course we are… At least, I thought, until now…”

Sherlock put his tea-cup back on the saucer with a deliberately slow gesture, and turned to stare at his pathologist. “I mean, are we only friends?”

Molly gawked at him, and murmured “Sherlock, are you sure you want to speak about this here, while we are having tea with your parents?”

The consulting detective removed the cup from Molly’s hands, and took her hand, forcing her to stand up. “You’re right. Mummy, Dad, would you excuse us?”, he said, before dragging a bewildered pathologist to the stairs. When they reached his former room, he slammed the door open, the hinges protesting in a way that made Molly understand that the poor door had suffered the same treatment for years.

Sherlock closed the door, and switched on the light. “It might not be the right time, but there’s something about us I want to say. I’m sure I had already told you, but now it occurs to me that probably the conversation I had was with the Molly in my Mind Palace.”

“You’re saying I’m in your Mind Palace?”, Molly asked, but the sheepish way Sherlock was looking at her made her stop. “Sorry, I didn’t want to interrupt you. Please, continue.”

He took a step towards her. “I think it’s time for our friendship to end, Molly. I spent weeks, months, maybe even years, thinking about that, and the only possible conclusion is that I don’t want to be your friend, Molly.”

The pathologist took a step back, her knees meeting his old bed. She let herself fall on it, too shocked to say a word. A lonely tear fell from her eyes, staining her pale face.

Sherlock came closer, but Molly stopped him. “Don’t, please. Leave me alone… Say to your parents that I don’t feel well, and bring me my handbag, I need to call a cab.”

The consulting detective looked dismayed. “This is not the reaction I was expecting…”, he started, and suddenly stopped, as he watched his pathologist leaving the bed, looking positively murderous.

“Really? How, pray tell, should I have reacted to your announcement? Should I thank you for the time you surely wasted being my friend? Or for making me risk my career, my relationships, my sanity, my own life, Sherlock, just to help you? Oh, knowing you surely gave me the thrill of a lifetime, Mr Holmes, thanks again!”

She started to leave the room, but turned back suddenly. “Feel free to find another pathologist to torment, or better yet, ask your brother to move me to another hospital, so I could spare both of us the torture to see one another in the future!”

She was one step away from the threshold when the door slammed shut. She could feel his presence behind her, his troubled breath tickling her nape, his long arms trapping her body against the door.

“What the hell are you talking about?”, Sherlock growled. “I don’t want another pathologist, I just want…” He hesitated, before lowering his forehead until it touched her neck. “You. I just want you.”

“Then why are you saying that you don’t want to be my friend?” She turned to look into his eyes. “Sherlock, please tell me what’s-” The kiss came completely unexpected, but not unwelcome. It was tender, and clumsy, and brief, and she was sure she wouldn’t be able to forget it, even if she wanted to.

“I hope I made myself clearer now…”, he whispered, before proving to her once and for all that their friendship was definitely dead, for good, and it wasn’t a tragedy, at all.

Downstairs, Mr and Mrs Holmes continued to sip slowly their tea.

“Do you think we should go upstairs and check on them?, Mr Holmes asked, and his wife was quick to reply. “Don’t you dare! I wasn’t joking about those grandchildren… Let’s just hope they will wait until they’re back in London to work on them!”

a random assortment of fic recs (part the third: where aimee goes off to deep end a bit)

Part One | Part Two

Emma Swan and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Compulsory Heterosexuality by wordsasweapons

Summary: It’s a rhythm she’s always fallen into, never going after what she thinks she may want in favor of security in the ‘norm’ and what’s expected.

Emma Swan has a lot of feelings, has always had a hard time figuring them out and denys many, until she doesn’t.

Me: This fic is such an important character study of Emma Swan and all the various pressures places on her and it made my heart hurt and I loved it.

we’re nothing more than dust jackets by @ coalitiongirl

Summary: A queen takes her revenge, a savior is hidden away, and a dark curse is cast. You’ve read this story a dozen times. But this time, Regina Mills wakes up with a book titled Emma, and Emma Swan is found wrapped in a baby blanket with her tiny fingers wrapped around a book titled Regina. As time passes, their counterpart’s story unfolds within the books; and for twenty-eight years, the two follow each other’s lives from afar until the day a little boy runs away from home to find his birth mother…

Me: Beautiful and terrifying and so carefully plotted and I live for Mari’s canon divergence. It’s just, like, everything I wanted in a fic plus terrifying monsters and Mary Margaret walking in on Emma and Regina banging pre-curse breaking.

how do you keep a wave upon the sand by @finitively

Summary: The slightly bizarre, not exactly normal tale of how Emma was a nun, then she wasn’t a nun, then she was a nanny for the seven adopted children of a super hot, super scary ex-Air Force Captain, and then she did the most stupid thing possible, which was fall in love with her.

Me: Like, I was dubious about how this could work because I love The Sound of Music so deeply and I couldn’t picture it with Swan Queen. And then. And then! Oh my goodness. This was just such delightful perfection and the children! And Emma as a terrible nun! And it actually deals with PTSD in realistic and heartbreaking and thoughtful ways.

a universe of beaches by abatnoir

Summary: a classic tale of true love and high adventure, except now it’s also gay. [princess bride au]

Me: This is just such a beautiful amalgam of the greatest fairy story ever told with the greatest fairy story that should be told. I love the narrative conceit of the story being told to an ill Henry and the way it both riffs off and devolves from ‘The Princess Bride’ in all the best possible ways.

Part of Your World by @queenssaviour

Summary: Her mother would do anything to get her way; Regina knew as much. One wouldn’t say no to her; that would often lead to death, or in Regina’s case, a life of eternal suffering. Her mother didn’t care about what Regina wanted one bit – all that mattered was ensuring her daughter became accomplished at what she thought was the best for her. Regina just wanted to be free. She had always felt like she belonged somewhere else and that she was meant to do something else. She wasn’t meant to live her life as the Queen of the sea and marry a man four times her age. What she desired was something her mother would never approve of.

What she wanted more than anything was to live on land.

A SQ mermaid AU written for Swan Queen Supernova 2016.

Me: The Little Mermaid AU I never knew I wanted. This is such clear, thoughtful writing that deals with Regina’s relationship with both Cora and Zelena in such excellent, interesting ways. Also, I am always here for Marian!

the slow dance of infinite stars by @insanetwin

Summary: set during I’ll be Your mirror. emma and regina have a little heart-to-heart between fighting for their lives and trying to find a way out again.

Me: As always, stunningly good writing, with pitch perfect characterisation and makes me feel like even though I can’t bring myself to watch the episodes that there is still something there.

this woman is my destiny (she said, shut up) by strangesmallbard

Summary: “Um, Marian, your, um, friend, is in one of my other classes, and she told me you needed the notes for today?”

Regina stands up. “She what?

In which Emma and Regina are seniors in college, are bad at this, and have wonderfully well-meaning, meddlesome friends.

Me: I love College AUs almost as much as High School AUs and this is literally just exquisite. I love Marian and Regina’s friendship most of all and how plausible and uncomfortable and precious this all feels.
