i love rain running

take what's yours ; chris evans

“well, certainly, i don’t care if she’s joking or doing it for promotion for the movie; we’re in a relationship and you have to shut down the rumors.” you angrily argue with your boyfriend.

having a debate isn’t exactly how you wanted to spend your free saturday night with your boyfriend, but things happen.

“can you stop being so insecure about our relationship. i’m your boyfriend and you’re my girlfriend, why does it matter what others think.” your boyfriend, chris, argues back.

“i’m insecure about our relationship?” you laugh, “christopher, you hid our relationship for nine months, if anyone one doesn’t want to be in this relationship, it’s you.”

“what, you think i’m embarrassed of you or something?” chris scoffs.

“honey, you’re embarrassed of me, just say it. admit you’d rather be in a relationship with jenny right now.” you smugly state.

“stop bringing her up, oh my god! it’s like you’re jealous of her or something.” chris rolls his eyes.

“why, should i be. this whole argument is because she can’t keep her mouth shut.” you yell, “you know what chris, take what’s yours and leave, go stay with jenny.” you walk away, wanting chris out of the shared house.

“okay.” you hear chris say as he walks closer to you.

feeling hands around your stomach, you’re lifted off your feet and balancing on chris’ shoulder.

“put me down! chris, i swear,” you laugh, “what are you doing.”

“you said take what’s mine and leave. i’m taking what’s mine and leaving.” chris walks out the front door, shoeless and everything.

“chris, oh my god, don’t drop me.” you cry out.

“tell me you love me.” chris demands. “we aren’t going back in until you say it.”

“no, you tell me.”

“i love you, baby.” you can hear him smiling just by the way he said it.

“okay, okay, i love you, now go in before it starts raining.” chris runs back into the house and lays you on the couch.

“promise to never ever let our fights get this bad. it’s me and you, babe, until the end.” chris whispers as he gets in the spooning position.

“i promise.”

Things you need to know about her.

I. She loves the rain, so don’t be surprised when she runs outside without shoes and dances in the street while the rain soaks her hair. II. You might find pens on her bedroom floor, but don’t move them. She likes picking them up when she has an thought to write about. III. She doesn’t like coming back from vacations, so remind her where home is. IV. She feels in extremes so you need to be her median. V. She needs change every once in a while so don’t be surprised when she comes home with her hair short instead of her usual long hair. VI. She needs validation every once in a while that she isn’t a burden so give it to her okay? VII. She has a hard time telling people when she is upset so she might burst into tears over a small thing but just hold her and wipe her tears. VIII. If she has her trust broken again, she might not be able to let anyone else in so please don’t hurt her. IX. She bites her nails when she is stressed out, so hold her hand so she doesn’t start that habit again. X. When she feels happy and smiles real big, turn on her favorite song and dance with her okay? She needs to feel happy with someone or else she starts feeling alone. XI. She loves rolling down her windows in the car when it’s night time, it might be a little cold but let her keep them down because she sticks her hand out and she smiles when she feels the cold wind on her fingertips because it lets her know that she is alive. She smiles so just let her. It’s kind of the best thing in the world.

The (Marching Band) Instruments as Things My Marching Instructor Has Said
  • Flute: "See, I love when it rains because you hear all the woodwinds scream while running to save their instruments. Then a few brass players cackling."
  • Piccolo: "That thing dangling around your neck? Those are your coordinates. READ THEM."
  • Clarinet: "And our resident gimp ran down a judge! I couldn't be prouder."
  • Bass Clarinet: "Did you just say 'look, a geese'"?
  • Oboe: "Imagine that you've come home and your house has been broken into. Everything of value is missing, most everything else is broken. Convey that feeling into this movement."
  • Saxophone: "Believe it or not, band is hard sometimes. It's hard work, it can make you sore and yes, sometimes it hurts. If anyone tells you otherwise, shank 'em with a reed."
  • French Horn/Mellophone: "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Give him drill that makes sense, he'll enjoy the show."
  • Trombone: "You've always gotta keep going, no matter what happens. Even if you fall over, get back up and back to your dot. We can get points for recovery."
  • Baritone/Euphonium: *after a student threw up on the field in the middle of a show* "See, I know HE left it all on the field."
  • Tuba/Sousaphone: "You have my full permission to run a judge down if they're in your way. You're performing, if they get in your way, that's their mistake."
  • Battery: "I don't know where the rope came from. I hate it. Someone is going to die this year, I just know it."
  • Guard: *proposes to girlfriend at campfire at band camp*
A good run feels like being part of the wind, flowing down the street with a power so strong yet so gentle. It feels like fire, warmth spreading from head to toe instantly. It feels like a shower for the soul, fresh and clear. The sun tickles your fingertips and you could go on forever. In those moments, the world seems so simple and the edge of heaven seems right at your fingertips. And non runners always ask why running is enjoyable. I just shrug because I know the secrets of a distance runner cannot truly be expressed in words to those who have not experienced the wind, fire, and water.

10! 12! 27! 28! <3

Hi, friend!

10: what is the song i have to listen to so i could know you better?
I’m cheating and doing this one again because music. I’m going to say “Timeless” by The Airborne Toxic Event. The acoustic version is also a favorite of mine. I sang it at an open mic night a couple of years ago when it first came out, and that was one of the best live performance experiences I’ve ever had.

12: do you like the rain? why? do you prefer storms or light dripping?

I’ve grown to like the rain since it’s rare enough around here. I’m a runner, and I’ve run some of my fastest times in the rain; it just seems to keep everything feeling fresh. This past winter when we had some “massive” rainstorms, I went out and discovered my love for hard runs in driving rain. It’s a little crazy and a little stupid, which describes me fairly well, I think.

27: what is your favorite smell?

28: picture yourself at ease. now describe what exactly did you picture - with who you are? where? what exactly put you at ease?

A continuation, I guess?

This is (part of) Grantchester Meadows.

It stretches out along the River Cam just south of Cambridge and is The Ultimate Picnic Destination in the summer, when we’d hire out punts from the city centre, pack out a picnic, and bob our leisurely way down. There’s a small herd of cows that wander through the meadows, so there’s always the danger of stepping straight in a cow pat, especially when you’re playing a bit of footy in bare feet. That’s always fun.

As for ease–that’s a difficult thing to pin down, I think. Familiarity is a large part of it–not having to worry about little things, like who you’re with or what you’ll be doing, the like. It’s just a slow, lazy afternoon lounging in the grass, possibly with a guitar or a nap, crisps, and a few bottles of cider to go around.
