i love pellinore

okay but. I’m just so excited that these books are a thing that exists!

teenage heroine who goes on a quest right?

who has a destiny, and she accepts it, but sometimes she still feels like her only value is as the Foretold One

and she gets hurt easily and she doesn’t treat her companions very well sometimes and she fails

and then she does better, and then she fails again because that’s how people are but she still keeps trying and keeps going on her quest

and not because of some desire for revenge for the people who’ve died

she’s motivated by the thought of her little brother

and not only that but we’ve got complicated antagonists! who aren’t evil precisely, or at least not entirely evil.

and the Elementals! who again, are forces of nature, not good or evil precisely, just operating on a different scale than humanity.

and oh man I’m just so pleased with conversation she had with Nim about the Pilani and the Jussacks and how each has a warped view of the other

and just. wow.

why did I never read these before

You know what I really love about Pellinor? Besides everything

The fact that there’s no unnecessary love triangles.

Yes, love interests are in it (with Dernhil, Cadvan, Arkan, other boys that have flirted with her).  There are hints to Cadvan/Maerad and even bigger ones for Arkan/Maerad.  It’s been said in the books that she would have given Dernhil a second chance.

Yes, love is talked about between the characters a lot, but it’s to help her understand it.

BUT IT’S NOT ONE OF THOSE “OH SHE CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT A BUT SHE ALSO CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT B. WHO WILL SHE CHOOSE?!?!?!11”
