The Christmas Invasion - Behind the Scenes [Part 7]
Excerpt from Benjamin Cook’s articles in Doctor Who Magazine #365
“I’m suggesting you almost fall out of the TARDIS,” James
[Hawes, director] calls out.
This is David’s big entrance in the Christmas special. He’s wearing his predecessor’s black leather jacket especially for the occasion. Noel and Camille are waiting to greet him outside the TARDIS.
“This is your big moment,” yells Camille. “Yay!”
David stumbles out of the police box. “I might do a bit of this,” he says to James, putting his hands on Camille and Noel’s shoulders.
“Ooh, I like that,” jumps in Camille. “Touchy feely stranger.”
“And you,” says James to Noel, “should be like, ‘Who is this guy?’”
“Do I care though?” asks Noel. “Seriously?”
Also, David suggests fixing his gaze on Mickey and Jackie, rather than looking around at the estate on which he’s landed.
“Okay,” says James, “stand by to shoot.”
“Here we are then,” says David, emerging from the TARDIS. “London, Earth, the Solar System. I did it!” He walks forward, delighted. “Jackie! Mickey! Blimey! No, hold on a minute, wait there, let me think, what was I gonna say? There was something…”
He trails off. To everyone’s astonishment, an old man in a dirty raincoat is shuffling through the scene, ignoring the actors and everything else around him. It’s as if we’re all invisible. Everyone stares at him open-mouthed.
As he passes Noel, the old man - let’s call him Scrooge - scowls. “Bloody BBC,” Scrooge mutters, “it’s full of poofs and homosexuals!”
“There’s a dentists over there, mate,” shouts out Noel, as Scrooge hobbles off. “Why don’t you go and get your teeth fixed?”
“I like the way he put them into two categories,” laughs David, afterwards. “Poofs and homosexuals! Heaven forbid!”
The more I think about that scene where everyone walks past Hinata the more heartbroken I feel because in sdr2 they’re all Hinata’s friends and they love him so much and have fun together but in dr3 they don’t even acknowledge him. Chiaki’s his friend but now Hinata’s going to become Kamukura and Chiaki’s probably going to die at some point because she’s an AI in sdr2 and she gets executed anyway and she’s gone even though she loved her friends and they all loved her and they might not even remember that she was their classmate. And just this wouldn’t have happened if Hinata didn’t become Kamukura because then he could keep being friends with Chiaki and maybe she could have introduced him to her classmates and then they could have all been friends because that’s how it’s supposed to be, they’re supposed to be friends who have fun and support each other but Hinata gets used by Hope’s Peak Academy and in sdr2 they’re all forced into a killing game the only time they’re ever really allowed to be happy friends together is in Island Mode but even then Chiaki’s an AI and she has to be left alone on the simulation of the island and the real human Chiaki’s probably dead or gone or something and I’m just. So sad.
Sorry, I just need to do some more analyzing. But seriously, I love Shiro so freaking much it’s hard to put it into words.
In this scene, the paladins have just created Voltron successfully for the second time, after a lot of hard work and bonding. And Hunk is expressing how much he cares for his team mates.
They’re family. He uses the word “brothers” to express the type of love and affection he felt for them while they were in Voltron.
And this is the part that I really love, because Shiro knows about Pidge’s brother. No one else really stops to think about it much, but Shiro smiles at Pidge and they smile back, which is surprising because of how much pain and longing they feel for the brother that feels like he’s millions of light years away. He’s adamant about finding his brother and defensive. But Shiro puts his hand on Pidge’s shoulder here. He doesn’t say anything, they just smile at each other.
I feel like it’s Shiro’s way of saying “whether we find your family or not, we’re your family now. And we’ll always be here for you.”
I just love this scene. It’s really really sweet and more proof of why I love Shiro so much.

#i just want to know if the way she pushes his hair out of the way is something talia probably did for them as children #some sort of comforting small touch to make them feel better when they felt sick #or was it just instinct for cora to touch her brother in a very simple but comforting way because he needed it or maybe she needed it #to make sure her brother was okay #im just very emotional and i wish they would have explored their relationship more
can we talk about the scene where possessed abby walks out of the bathroom and runs into holtz and their faces are like so damm close as they talk and holtz legit looks amused by it like she doesn’t move back a single inch and she’s kinda smirking being super casually gay as hell
