Sheriff Knows Best

Stiles/Derek, G, 2K words, Sheriff POV, Coffeeshop AU, matchmaker!Sheriff

(Credit for the title to @cobrilee!)

This is an expansion of the following idea, written by the lovely @artemis69:

the coffee!AU, where John goes to the same coffee shop every day, and there is this very grumpy, quiet barista that always makes him amazing coffee and keep the best pastries for him. And one day the Sheriff learns that Derek is the one to bake them all, so he decides: this will be my son in law, I need a reason to have this man in my family for at least forty to fifty years. Then he matchmakes with no subtility whatsoever, basically offering his only son on a silver plate, Stiles spluttering all the way (but he takes Derek’s number anyway because the guy is just amazingly cute)

John’s on his regular morning stroll when he stops in his tracks and takes in the brand-new coffee shop, complete with a banner advertising their opening day. The little corner space has been boarded up for over a year, and John had no idea it was opening today.

Any new businesses are a boon for Beacon Hills, especially family-run ones like this one is rumored to be, so John ducks inside. It’s warm and homey, and there’s a pair of young dark-haired people behind the counter, close enough in features that they’re probably siblings. The quiet bickering points that direction, too.

They stop, though, when they see the Sheriff—the uniform tends to have that effect—and he pastes on his public servant smile. “Hi there. I saw this place was open and wanted to come on in and introduce myself. Sheriff John Stilinski.”

“Oh, it’s so nice to meet you,” the woman says, holding out her hand for a shake. A nice strong grip—John likes this girl already. “I’m Laura Hale, and I own this place with my brother Derek, our resident grumpy barista-slash-baker.”

Derek rolls his eyes at Laura, but his smile to John is genuine, if small. “Hi, Sheriff. Nice to meet you.”

“Likewise, son,” he says, perusing the case full of tempting sugary treats. “You made these?”

He nods. “Can I get you anything?”

John hums. “A medium coffee, and…any one of these delicious-looking goodies. You pick. Just don’t tell my son,” he adds, and Derek looks up at him.

“Your son?”

“I have slightly elevated cholesterol,” he says, stressing the word. “Nothing to worry about, honestly. But he polices my diet. I don’t think he knows about this place yet, though, so this is great.”

Derek hums. His tongs hover over a muffin—lemon poppyseed, it looks like—before moving to another one. Raspberry-almond, according to the sign, and well, John isn’t picky. Derek drops it into a little bag and hands it over.

“Happy to help,” he says.

John thanks him and opens the bag. Laura’s still pouring his coffee, but it smells so damn good that he can’t resist.

“Wow,” he says, his mouth full. “This is delicious.”

Derek looks quietly proud, and Laura claps him on the shoulder as she reaches over to hand John his coffee. “On the house, today, Sheriff,” she says. “Thanks for stopping by.”

“I’ll be back tomorrow,” he promises.

“Thanks, Nina,” John says dryly, leaning back so she can put his plate in front of him.

“You’re welcome, Sheriff,” she says with a friendly smile, ignoring his stink eye.

Stiles just grins at both of them and digs into his French toast. He insists on having their weekly father-son breakfast at Paulie’s Diner because no matter what John orders, Nina will only bring him an egg-white omelet with a dry English muffin. Stiles must have some serious blackmail or be paying her off somehow, and John is, he has to admit, grudgingly impressed.

“Don’t look so bummed out, Pops,” Stiles says, around a mouthful of what’s surely syrup-drenched deliciousness. “At least I let you have turkey bacon.”

“It’s not the same,” he says grumpily, poking at it. “But at least I’m getting a steady stream of baked goods now.”

Stiles glares at him. “Are you serious? From where? I thought I had paid everyone off.”

He knew it. “I’m not telling you,” he says, a little displeased with how childish he sounds.

“Fine,” Stiles says, sniffing. “I’ll figure it out, you know I will.”

He will, John knows. Goddamn, he loves his kid, even if his life goal seems to be depriving John from any and all delicious food. “And speaking of, I met someone the other day,” he starts, and Stiles gasps theatrically, his hand coming up to cover his mouth.

“Is this you crapping all over my dream of having Melissa as my stepmom?”

John sighs at the reminder. Melissa is…well, she seems happy with that Argent guy. Whatever. He’s not bitter.

“Not for me, Jesus,” he says, shaking his head. “For you.”

“Oh my god,” Stiles says, slumping back in the booth. “Eye roll” is too mild, John thinks. It’s more of a whole head roll. “Seriously, Dad, I’m only 25. You don’t have to marry me off quite yet. You’ll get your grandchildren someday, I promise. Stop trying to set me up with people.”

“I’m just trying to be helpful!” John protests. “He seems nice.”

And makes really good treats, he adds in his head. That’ll be a good trait for a son-in-law.

“And who exactly is he?”

John pauses. “I met him at the aforementioned undisclosed location.”

Stiles snorts. “Find out if he actually likes dudes, then get back to me.”

“Okay,” he says seriously, and Stiles grimaces.

“No, Dad, don’t actually—”

darling, I know you’ve been feeling down lately, so I wrote this really quick for you. I’m not sure what you had in mind, but I went to a 100 % unicorns place, so I hope this makes you smile a little.

A shadow falls across Stiles’ worksheet and he looks up to see Lydia, mouth pursed, staring down at him. She says, “What do you know about unicorns?”

“About as much as the average eleven year old boy,” he says, which is: not much. Horse-like, pointy horn, something to do with virgins.

Of course, he goes home and finds out everything he can about them immediately. Both because Lydia asked, and because now he can’t stop thinking about it.

Lydia has forgotten all about their conversation by the time he’s ready to dazzle her with his knowledge, so alas, his mad unicorn skillz lie dormant for years, until all the shit with the werewolves.

Stiles is cat-napping in a spill of sun when all his warmth is blocked—he makes an irritated sound and opens his eyes to find Derek looming over him, frowning.  Stiles kicks out a foot and rolls over onto his side in the grass.

Derek says, “What do you know about unicorns?”

Stiles yawns and says, “A surprising amount for a teenage boy.”

Some Strings Attached

Ugh so there was a post going around that I’ve now long since misplaced but it was like “I just saw you go upstairs with someone else and I know we’re only fuck buddies but I’m gonna go punch them in the face” and I was HERE FOR IT. If somebody remembers the post, link me. In the meantime, have some Sterek getting together fluff.

“Just tell Derek you want to date him,” Scott says, as if it’s the simplest thing in the world.

Stiles bugs his eyes and flails his hands in wordless frustration, because the correct response to this patently ludicrous advice eludes him. He had come for sympathy, not pie-in-the-sky delusions. “Scott. Bro,” he finally gasps. “How could you even suggest that in good faith? No way! Bad plan!” He slashes his arms in a demonstrative X. “The only reason we’re even hooking up is that I made it super clear I was down to fuck, no strings attached! I’m not ruining a good thing by announcing to Derek Hale that I’m 85% in love with him.”

“Why?” Scott genuinely seems confused, the sweet summer child. After falling into a happy triad with Allison and Isaac after their first semester at UCLA, he doesn’t really understand the definition of “unrequited.”

Stiles turns his attention to a hanging thread on his t-shirt, sourly tugging it loose. “He’s out of my league. I mean, with the baseball, and the smarts, and the sarcasm, and those eyes…” he breaks off with a sigh. The last thing he needs to do is remind himself of how gone he is on Derek. “Just, he’s popular. Dictionary definition of too cool for school. And the three people he actually deigns to hang out with here are all just as cool and good looking as he is. Do I need to remind you I’m not? I’m a gawky, nerdy Sophomore. I’m lucky to even be his fuck-buddy.”

Scott makes a face, incredulous. “I dunno, he must like you well enough if he’s still sleeping with you after all this time. What’s it been, six months? And you guys hang out, too, you’re always telling me about how easy it is to chat with him after you bone. So it’s not just sex.”

Stiles grimaces. “Yeah, but it’s not…”

“… a real relationship,” Derek says into the phone, hearing full well the heavy dejection in his voice. So sue him; the admission is more than a little depressing. “He just wants to be fuck buddies.”

“How do you know?” Laura asks reasonably. “Maybe this Stiles person would be interested in dating you, too. No offence, but you’re not great at reading people. I mean, he’s interested in chilling with you even after you hook up, and clearly he enjoys the physical aspect. Did he actually ever say he wasn’t looking for more?”

Derek heaves a sigh, rolling his eyes even though she can’t see over the phone. “Yep. About two minutes after the first time we slept together he said, ‘no strings attached, obviously.’ So, you know, pretty safe bet that it’s no strings attached.”

“Oh,” Laura says. For once she doesn’t have a snappy comeback.

“Oh,” Derek agrees. Dejectedly.

She gives him a sympathetic little hum, and then asks, “and he’ll definitely be at the sorority barbecue?”

“Yeah.” Stiles and his broad shoulders and his long fingers are definitely going to be at the party.

“Maybe you shouldn’t go,” his sister says softly. “If you really like him, and he’s just looking to get laid…”

Derek groans. Not go, and give up a chance to hook up with Stiles? Smart, maybe, but not something he’s capable of doing.

The problem is, he’s liked Stiles forever. Or at least since he first saw him, laughing uproariously and running around with his friends with an actually broom between his legs, playing “Quidditch.” Derek would have been way too embarrassed to do something like that on the front lawn, but Stiles made it seem like the most effortlessly awesome thing a person could get up to.

No, compared to Stiles, Derek is practically a social recluse, an awkward jock with only about three people who he gets along with at all. Stiles definitely doesn’t want to get saddled with a boyfriend like him. He’s lucky they’re even hooking up after all this time.

“Derek, I mean it,” Laura says. “Look out for yourself for once.”

“I know, I know,” Derek grumbles. “But it’s not my fault he’s…”

I don’t even know. I was taking a walk today and this idea popped into my head. I swear I’m still writing the bookstore AU, too. Also, *pops confetti*, I hit 2k followers today! Who ARE all you guys? Anyway, this fluff/ridiculousness is for you. ~1.6k words, rated G. Sterek, of course.

now also on AO3

The whole thing starts with Stiles really, really craving a meatball sub from the place across the street.

“God, someone shut him up,” Erica groans. They’re all kind of at their breaking point by now; they’ve been camped out in this meeting room all day, brainstorming. “He’s been talking about the same goddamn sandwich for seven and a half minutes now, and it’s making me hungry.”

“If only our ad campaign were about sandwiches, Stilinski would have it in the bag and we could all go home,” Isaac sighs.

From across the table, Derek rises abruptly to his feet and storms out. (Or maybe it’s just that Stiles always interprets everything Derek does as stormy. With those eyebrows, it’s hard not to.)

Stiles assumes he’s just gotten so fed up with them all that it’s either storm out or kill someone, and he’s just grateful Derek chose Door Number 1. It’s a good day not to get killed by Derek Hale.

Only, fifteen minutes later he comes back in. With a paper bag from the deli.

As soon as he gets within grabbing distance, Stiles practically collapses across the table in his haste to reach for it. “Oh my god, is that what I think it is?”

Derek holds it up over his head. “Who says this is for you? Maybe all your talk inspired me to go get a meatball sub of my own.”

“Oh, please. Like anyone with your abs eats meatball subs.” Stiles leaps to his feet on his swivel chair—because screw safety, Derek will catch him if he starts to topple over—and snatches the bag out of Derek’s grip. Derek doesn’t fight him for it very hard.

“Why don’t I get a meatball sub?” Erica whines, thumping her head down on her notebook. “Doesn’t anyone love me?”

Derek shrugs and takes his seat again. “You didn’t ask.”

“You just like Stilinski better,” she grumbles, and Derek just shrugs again.

Meanwhile, Stiles rips into the bag and takes a huge bite out of the gloriousness that is this sandwich. He can’t help throwing in a few theatrical moans just to taunt Erica, and she suitably rewards him with a glare of death across the table.

“Mmm,” Stiles says. “Derek, I love you so much, dude. Marry me.”

Instead of the grumpy eyebrows he expects, Derek meets his eye, leans back smugly in his chair, and says, “Okay.”

Stiles can’t shower at his house anymore, not since the sacrifices. Just seeing the tub gives me flash backs to going under the water at Deaton’s, the thought of actually getting into one is enough to send him over the edge into a full on panic attack.

He showers in the locker room now, in the open space where he knows he can’t go under. He knows that it’s not a permanent solution, but for now it works.

After everything with the Nogitsune Stiles stands in the locker room showers for at least an hour. He can’t get the feel of blood off of his hands. He scrubs himself until he’s red, until his skin is tender to the touch, and then he scrubs more.

There were too many places with bad memories attached now, but Stiles gets through them, he has to. He still can’t look at a bathtub without feeling sick to his stomach. That’s where it started for him, that’s how the Nogitsune got in.

So he still showers at school, he avoids talking about his feelings and his struggles because it’s his fault that Allison is dead, that Isaac is gone, that Scott’s a werewolf. It’s all his fault and he knows that, so he stays strong and steady on the outside, if not a bit defiant.

It all works out fine until the school is locked for summer and Derek is missing and Lydia is grieving the death of her best friend so he can’t talk to her, and Scott is off trying to better himself so he can’t bother him.

After a week of sink showers Stiles finally gets an idea and breaks into the loft. Well breaks into is a very loose term, he has a key and he doesn’t think Derek would mind him using his shower.

That plan works well until Derek is back. By then the school is open again, but he knows that Derek can tell he’s been there. There’s no way he doesn’t smell Stiles in the bathroom, on the couch, in the bed.

But Derek doesn’t call him out on it, instead he squeezes Stiles neck and reminds him that his door is always open if he needs to get away. Stiles knows that if anyone would understand how he’s feeling, it would be Derek. He knows that, but he can’t bring himself to tell him anything.

He does go to the loft sometimes, mostly to use Derek’s shower and always when he knows Derek is out. That plan works as well as he other plans, meaning it’s great until it isn’t.

It’s a Sunday and Stiles is stepping out of a hot shower at the loft, he had a bad night, dreams of dead brown eyes and sticking swords into friends had kept him up. He had been alone when he got to the loft, but when he steps out of the bathroom Derek is sitting on the couch reading a book.

“None of this is your fault,” Derek tells him, not looking up from the book, “You didn’t ask to be possessed, you didn’t want to be sacrificed, none of this is on you.”

“Or is it all on me,” Stiles says, toweling his hair dry and looking at Derek, “If I hadn’t dragged Scott into the woods that first night none of this would have happened.”

“By that line of logic this is actually all my fault,” Derek says with a sigh, making Stiles think that Derek really believes that it’s his fault, “The fire never would have happened if it wasn’t for me.”

“We both know the fire would have happened without you,” Stiles says because it’s true.

“And if Scott hadn’t gotten bitten someone else would have,” Derek counters, “It’s not your fault.”

“Maybe,” Stiles says, sitting down next to Derek. It feels like the right time to tell someone why he can’t shower at home so he adds, “I can’t go near a bathtub after being sacrificed.”

“The smell of smoke still makes me sick,” Derek admits and Stiles bumps his shoulder against him. “We’ve all got our damage. You’re not letting yours keep you from living, that’s important.”

“You too,” Stiles tells him, “Maybe we can try to move forward from all of this shit together. It’s easier with someone else helping.”

“Yeah, it is,” Derek says quietly, looking at Stiles with a soft look that he’s only seen a few times before.

And maybe Stiles still can’t take a bath, but with Derek (and a therapists) help he starts taking showers in a bathtub. And maybe Derek can’t watch open flames, but he can smell smoke without throwing up because Stiles helps him open up (and takes him to therapy once a week).

They move forward together. And eventually they’re both well enough emotionally to admit that they love each other. Every day is a journey for them, but they’re on that journey together, that’s what matters.

anonymous asked:

I think the most important question of all time is if Derek prefers belly rubs, or is he the kind of 'clingy when cuddling' boyfriend so he just lays on top of Stiles and lets him rub his back (and sometimes his butt) ? My personal headcanon is that werewolves can get sort of stoned from their mate's scent and Derek once a month likes to climb into Stiles' lap and melt into his arms surrounded by his boyfriend's scent. Bonus pie points if Derek steals Stiles' shirts to wear when he's napping

You have no idea how much I just screamed over this ask. This is being filed under “favourites”, for sure.

I think Derek is the type of guy who really, really likes cuddles and anything that involves getting to touch Stiles, but pretends he’s completely indifferent to it/does it only to “shut Stiles up”. Which, you know, is complete lies. The first time Stiles sleeps next to Derek in a bed, it’s painfully obvious Derek wants to cuddle but he just doesn’t know how to go about asking. Poor, awkward lamb. Stiles nearly makes a joke at Derek’s expense about how obvious it is because, well, but he refrains at the last minute upon seeing Derek’s face - Derek doesn’t just look nervous, he looks scared, like he might be rejected - and shaking his head (because this adorable asshole) Stiles shifts closer and hastily mumbles something about not having his pillow, “so you’ll have to do, big guy”.

Before they get together, it takes a while for Derek to get used to being tactile with Stiles. Derek is fine touching other people - he has the control that way - but he’s still not good with people touching him. Unfortunately, that’s not a great combination when you are a touch starved werewolf with trust issues, because it pretty much means the only kind of physical contact Derek ever receives is either in life or death situations or during (not so fun and friendly) pack training sessions. Not ideal. Of course, after a while, Stiles clocks this.

Stiles has known about Derek’s touch issues since he first met him, but it’s better now (he thinks). So he tries small things: sitting next to Derek during pack movie nights and pressing his leg against his; letting himself fall asleep on Derek’s shoulder (desperately trying not to read too much into it when Derek doesn’t move away); and, a few times, hugging Derek goodbye and lingering longer than he should each time he does it.

After a while, Derek starts touching Stiles back. One day, he just crawls through Stiles’ window and sits by Stiles’ bed until Stiles - very tired and not thinking things through too much - puts a hand on Derek’s shoulder and tells him in no uncertain terms “ to get up here for some Stilinski spooning time”. Derek grumbles at that but he’s in Stiles’ bed exactly twenty seconds later, which gives Stiles major pause for thought.

Major.

And listen, this is how it goes on. They aren’t even together but Derek touching Stiles and being touched by him soon becomes A Thing. For both of them. A very important thing. The life of Derek Hale suddenly becomes about three things: the pack, Cora, and Stiles.

Sometimes, Stiles sleeps over at the loft. Not for any reason other than the fact Stiles does a lot of late night research there, but after a while it kind of becomes apparent Stiles is there for “research times” and what he has come to call “Derek’s personal pillow times”. Derek’s person pillow times often involve Derek shyly (but somehow still grumpily) crawling into Stiles’ lap and (not so subtly) scenting him. Stiles asked about the scenting thing once and Derek stopped for three weeks, entirely embarrassed - Derek had looked so upset and torn about the whole thing (aka, he looked like a hurt five year old) that eventually Stiles had just marched into the loft, stuck Batman on, and told Derek to get his “fluffy butt in here. I mean it Derek, my neck is lonely now. Don’t leave a bro in need like this, it’s accustomed to your snout!” Stiles expected Derek to either throw him out or snark at him for that but instead, Derek shuffled - actually shuffled - into the room (still appearing out of nowhere, the creepy show off), holding himself rather tight, before crawling into Stiles’ lap and staying there for exactly 2.5 Batman movies, face buried in Stiles’ neck. (Stiles does not grin manically when he feels Derek’s whole body sag against him, like he hasn’t been able to settle without him.)

During Stiles’ second year of college, they have their first kiss. Well, if a first kiss can be called a first kiss when the dude you are hard core crushing on puts a finger to your lips half way through your perfectly valid rant about why Princess Leia is The Best, stares into your eyes for a solid three minutes (and somehow makes it both awkward and the best fucking thing you have ever experienced when looking at someone), before placing a very soft and intimate kiss to your neck. Stiles has no idea what it even means until he eventually plucks up the courage to ask Cora who instantly threatens him with bodily harm if Stiles hurts her brother. (”So, uh, the neck thing was…..?” “My brother’s traditional, dorky way of telling you he loves you. Duh. Jesus Stiles, and you call yourself our Emissary?”)

From then on out, Derek’s attachment to touching Stiles just becomes more intense. In front of people and the pack he’ll settle for holding hands or being next to Stiles, but in private he becomes like a lazy cat. He gets very pouty when he wakes up and finds Stiles not in bed for morning cuddles; he loves being able to wash Stiles’ hair; back rubs and head rubs are his favourite, especially when he’s reading or they are watching movies (Derek’s introducing all the classics to Stiles, like Rebecca and The Breakfast Club; “no, Spider-man doesn’t count as a classic, Stiles” “says who?” “says me if you still want a blow job later” ). Mostly though, he just loves being in his old position of sitting in Stiles’ lap and burying his face in Stiles’ neck.

Sometimes Stiles will talk about his day while Derek does this and it works for both of them because Derek is surrounded by Stiles’ scent, his voice, his whole being; and that calms him, settles him in a way he hasn’t been since before the fire. And in turn, having someone to listen to him - really, truly listen - while he’s talking, brings Stiles a kind of happiness he’s never experienced before. Sure, people hear him. They talk to him and hold conversations. But sooner or later Stiles always sees their eyes wander, sees the start of a yawn or is outright told to shut up.

Stiles knows his attention isn’t anything to write home about but there is a difference between being unable to hold someone’s attention and someone just not wanting to hold your attention, specifically. Of course, Derek still tells Stiles to shut up, that’s never a thing that stopped between them, but now it usually ends in heated make out sessions or sex, so, Stiles really has no complaints. But in moments like these, with Derek in his lap, Derek just listens. He can sit for hours and never tires of Stiles. If Stiles is happy, he smiles into his neck, makes these little happy sounds; if he’s sad, he’ll kiss his neck, and murmur quiet things; angry, he’ll hold him tighter and let him vent, for as long as he likes.

Some couples have hobbies, have things, but this is their ritual. Just this. Every other day, just having this quiet moment of peace and happiness. A bubble no one can penetrate. It’s a visible anchor, the place they always come back to. It’s a place they both need; the place Stiles needs when he’s feeling insecure and the place Derek needs when he’s feeling lonely. Nothing can touch them in it, no high is better. Especially to Derek who really can feel a little drunk off of Stiles’ scent, sometimes. It’s a kind of closeness both of them have always craved but never really gotten. It’s Derek’s way of saying I love you when he finds it difficult to say it. It’s Stiles’ way of knowing I’m needed when he doubts it.

It’s just them, and even though it sometimes freaks Stiles out - the stillness, the fact he can be this still, for hours - it serves as a precious reminder that after all the chaos, after all the loss and heart break, that they found this: they found a small and quiet, beautiful thing. And they found it in each other, which is both the most baffling and the least surprising thing of all.

Does anyone ever think about the fact that after everything with Kate, maybe Derek goes to New York with the decision to never to be hurt that way by anyone again. Not the losing his family part, because how could he ever lose so much again, right? (Right? I’m not crying at all!) So he gets a part-time job as a grocery bagger or something, because he is young and most places won’t hire him halfway through the year. And he works after school to bring in a few bucks so that Laura’s eyes won’t be quite so pinched now that she has gotten her GED and began working to make ends meet for them in a very expensive city. After work, she then spends sometimes hours on the phone and emailing lawyers who are still trying to get all of the paperwork straight. So yeah, Derek  works to help Laura.

But then some lady at the store gives him that look. Like Kate. Her eyes are interested, and her grin is predatory, and he just knows she wants him. So he thinks to himself if he initiates it, maybe it won’t leave him feeling so wrong. So he does. And it becomes a thing. He flirts with anyone who shows him interest as he bags their groceries and “helps them to their car” even though they never need help.

From there maybe it just becomes a way of survival. As he gets older, it seems like more women want to sleep with him. He’s filling out, thanks to all of the runs he’s going on after work and thanks to the workouts he’s pushing his body through every morning. Because he has to be strong enough. He has to be bigger. He doesn’t want anyone to think they can hold him down or force him.

He learns how to play the game. One day he mentions something about that to a coworker (now working at a bar mixing drinks because someone had once told him he would make great money in tips) but his coworker didn’t think of sex as a game. Derek knew better. Maybe it wasn’t for some people, but he would never be able to trust someone in that way again, so he had to strike first before an opponent could.

One day a man at the bar looks at him just right, and Derek just thinks Oh. He’s never focused on men before, but he’s noticed them in passing. So he goes to the guy’s apartment after his shift and they sleep together. Derek pretends he’s done this before, even though he’s mostly relying on his sense of smell and hearing to tell if the guy is into different things he tries. And after that, Derek flirts with anyone he feels he has to.

So fast forward to Stiles. Stiles who is home from college after his second year has finished to make room for summer break. Stiles who means so much and is so good even when he’s an asshole. Stiles who leans in one day after a pack dinner, when he and Derek have finished cleaning up after everyone else has gone home. Stiles kisses him gently, at first, almost hesitantly. But when Derek doesn’t push him away, he presses in more firmly and suddenly Derek realizes where this is going to go. And it kind of makes him sad.

He lets Stiles slip his shirt off and push him back onto his bed. Stiles crawls on top of him and Derek begins pulling their hips together in a slow and sinuous way. But Stiles doesn’t react like any man Derek’s been with before–which really shouldn’t be as much of a surprise as it is. Yes, Stiles lets out a little moan, but it doesn’t break Stiles away from Derek’s mouth, where his tongue is doing things to Derek that he can’t explain. And his hands after trapping Derek’s face, but not like he’s trying to contain Derek, more like he’s holding something precious. His thumbs keep swiping across Derek’s eyebrows, like he’s memorizing their shape.

From The Way You Said “I Love You”

#26 Broken, as you clutch the sleeve of my jacket and beg me not to leave

Please, Derek, please, I–“ Stiles chokes back the beginnings of tears and clutches harder at the sleeve of Derek’s jacket. He’s on his knees, having tripped in his scramble to get to Derek from the other side of the loft. “I love you, okay? And I’m sorry I didn’t say it before, I’ve been a coward about this whole thing, but I love you. And I know you love me too. I know you do, and I need you not to leave like this, fuck, Derek, please don’t do this.”

Derek stares down at him for a long time, heart clenched in his throat.

And then he looks up at where the other Stiles is pursing his lips in a hard frown as he watches the scene.

“It isn’t real?” Derek asks for the hundredth time since the other Stiles, the real Stiles, showed up in this apparent dreamscape.

Stiles shakes his head stiffly.

The Stiles on the floor is still pleading with him around tears, but the noises of his despair are starting to fade, as if Derek were now hearing him from a distance. Even his heartbeat, a sound that Derek has been clinging to as an anchor for what feels like forever, begins to disappear.

Derek swallows and steels himself against feeling anything more than determination to get through this newest mess.

“What now?” he asks, tone clinical and firm.

Stiles answers him in a similar tone, his expression betraying nothing about what’s going on in his own head. A far cry from the Stiles that Derek first met a couple years ago, terrified and mouthy and young. “Now you wake up.”

"Y/N…” Derek interrupted followed by a loud growl. Y/N could hear Derek’s heartbeat going crazy and his labored breathing. What caught her attention was hearing another heartbeat. “I need you."

His voice was filled with worry, which caused Y/N to sit up straight in her bed alarmed. "Derek, where are you?”

“I don’t know…” he whispered unexpectedly. He no longer sounded like he was in pain or fighting against someone. He now sounded weak and hurt.

“Derek, I need you to talk to me. What do you see?” She asked as she quickly got out of bed to get dressed.

“I can’t… see anything…” he mumbled. She rushed as she heard his heartbeat getting weaker by the second.

She swallowed hard as she closed her eyes, letting a tear fall down her cheek. She was absolutely terrified for him. “Derek… I’m going to come and get you, okay? But I need to call Stiles to help me. Can you answer the phone if I call you back?”

“My phone… is going to die…”

“Fuck!” She whispered to herself. She put on her shoes as an idea crossed her mind. “After you hang up with me, turn off your phone and save the battery for about 10 minutes. That’ll be about the time it will take me to get to Stiles’ office at the police station. I’ll call you back but you have to answer, okay?”

“O… kay…” he mumbled weakly.

“Derek?” Her voice trembled. He hummed a small ‘yes’. “Please answer the phone."

"I promise,” he said before he hung up and turned off his phone like he was told to do.

Y/N grabbed her keys before rushing to her car. Her fingers trembled as she dialed Stiles’ number. For some strange reason a flashback flooded her mind to the first time she went to Stiles for help with Derek.

Pst hi I LOVE YOUR FICS you have no idea how much they give me life <3 <3 I came across this really cute (and frankly heartbreaking) AU: "[burgler gently wakes me] you live like this?" (stolen from a post I saw on fb) and I kinda just need Stiles to do everything he can to make Derek's life better? THANK YOU SO MUCH :D

It IS frankly heartbreaking… which means I’m totally into it.

(now also on AO3!)

Derek definitely went to sleep alone. He always does, these days. It doesn’t explain why he drifts awake in the middle of the night to the feeling of someone lightly poking his shoulder.

It’s probably not a good sign that when he opens his eyes and sees a gangly teenage boy in a red hoodie and grubby-looking black fingerless gloves standing over him, he doesn’t startle. His claws don’t come out; his eyes don’t flash. He just feels… resigned.

“You live like this?” the guy says, soft. Almost pitying. “I mean. You actually live here?”

That seems too obvious, not to mention too insulting, to merit a response. “What are you doing here?” Derek asks instead. His voice comes out low and rough. This is the first time in days he’s had any reason to say anything. “This is private property.”

The guy shifts on his feet and sticks his hands under his armpits uncomfortably. “Okay, straight to the awkward questions. I like that.”

Fun wolf fact to think about: wolves greet handlers (and packmates) they love by standing up on their hind legs and enthusiastically smooch-licking them all over their faces/mouths. Can you imagine feral/wolf!Derek terrified of everyone and then seeing Stiles and just attacking him with wolfy kisses? And everyone just standing there terrified for half a second while Derek charges at Stiles and then just standing there confused when he proceeds giving him a tongue bath...

I just…..

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY FEELINGS I HAVE ABOUT THIS.

Stiles thinking this is it, this is how he dies….and suddenly he’s got slobber on his face and a shaking feral puppy whining against his throat because Allison still has her bow aimed at him and…..oh my god, Allison.

Who looks like Kate.

And Derek is really whining now, practically trying to scramble into Stiles’ arms (which is impossible given his size but it doesn’t stop Derek from trying). Stiles isn’t sure if Derek is himself at the moment or if he’s having some kind of panic attack and all his usual walls and filters are shot but one thing is for certain: STILES IS NOT GOING TO HOLD BACK ON DISHING OUT ON THE STILINSKI CUDDLES. He always imagined the first time he got to hug Derek for real there would be more muscle and complicated eyebrow emotions involved but he can work with this

“Hey, it’s okay, big guy. I’ve got you now. No bad people.”

*more whining*

Hey now, none of that. When have I ever left you, huh?”

*sudden silence*

You can depend on your buddy, Stiles. Right?”

*more tentative, almost SHY licking*

*followed by tail wagging when Stiles’ hand accidentally brushes Derek’s ear*

Stiles’ status: dead from feels (and also the sudden, alarming confusion he is still every bit as in love and attracted to Derek in his wolf form. Hell, he even thinks his droopy ears are cute. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT HIM???)

Scott McCall:

“So Alpha, tell me do you get jealous often?” You asked Scott leaning against the coffee table swirling your finger on the wood softly. He looked at you and down at your finger movements before meeting your eyes, his glowing red eyes staring back at your eyes “No what would give you that idea, the fact that my eyes or red, or that I was removed from the lacrosse field?” He asked cocking his neck slightly. He was fuming with anger, claws showing, red eyes, heavy breathing kind of anger and you knew exactly why, you looked down to what you were wearing “Does the jersey bother you that much that you went Alpha on the field? Scott , he’s a child.” You said gesturing to Liam’s jersey looking at Scott which only angered him more.

“Yeah, a child whose jersey is wrapped around my girlfriend’s body.” Scott said lowly approaching you carefully until his hands were lying on both of your sides resting against the coffee table “If you scratch Coach’s desk, he’s going to flip.” You asked softly staring into Scott’s eyes “You think I give a shit about his desk? I give more of a shit of why YOU’RE wearing his jersey.” Scott said leaning closer to your face causing you to hold your breath. You didn’t want to tell him the truth because it was only going to anger him more, and after the anger had settled he would hate himself for not being there, just as you were going to open your mouth.

“NO LIES. THE TRUTH (Y/N)!” He yelled causing you to jump in fright but he didn’t care at this point all he saw was red. “I.. I was attacked on my way to the game.. some guys came and tried to .. tried to hurt me… Liam was walking to the game.. he saw them.. as the tried to … hurt me.. he saved.. me.. Scott .. he saved me..” was all you said before sliding down to the floor, tears had began to stream down your face, you couldn’t control your fear, your hurt, your feelings. “Baby.. I .. I’m so sorry..” Scott said sinking to the floor sitting in front of you, without thinking you threw yourself into his arms and continued to cry.

“I was so scared Scott.. I felt so useless..” you said softly through your tears, Scott sat you in his lap cooing at you, while stroking your hair trying his best to calm you down “I’m sorry I wasn’t there baby.. I’m sorry you went through that.. I’m sorry I didn’t trust you..” he kept repeating as he softly rocked you. “Jealous or not McCall.. I love you.” You said softly as he kissed your forehead “This is so much better than watching you play lacrosse.” You said laughing causing Scotts chest to throw a fit of laughter.

“Man, I am on lucky guy huh?” He said kissing your hair, holding you tightly to him, protecting you.

Malia Tate. Must you continue. Ever since you and Stiles had gotten together she was always showing up at Stiles’ house asking him for help and of course since your lovable, sweet and oblivious boyfriend couldn’t see that she was just doing it on purpose he didn’t put a stop to helping her. You knocked on Stiles door to hear rustling and a couple of giggles just as you were going to open the door, Malia swung it open with a smile on her face “Hello (Y/N). We were just talking about you.” She said smiling at you which made you feel weird on the inside, as you looked over to Stiles you noticed it immediately. A kiss mark. On his cheek.

“It seems I’m interrupting something. If you’ll excuse me.“ You said turning around, running out of Stiles house trying to keep your tears at a minimum ”(Y/N)! Wait up babe! What the hell!“ He said catching you and pulling you back to him "Why are you leaving?” He asked looking at you confused, you said nothing but point to his cheek, he raised his eyebrow grabbing his phone to see what was on his cheek “Babe. Seriously?” Was all he said, just as you were going to walk away he grabbed your hand “Baby, Scott’s mom came by earlier, she gave me this kiss. Malia even mentioned it to.. wait, you thought?” He asked drifting away.

“No, baby I would never cheat on you.” He said wrapping an arm around your waist pulling yourself closer to him “So why have you a Malia been hanging out all week then?” You asked softly not trusting your own voice. “What’s today? Thursday right? Isn’t there something really important going on this exact Thursday?” He asked looking around and then it hit you “Shit.” was all you said before slapping your forehead “Yeah, so busy thinking I was cheating on you, you forgot. 6 months.” He said pulling you towards his house.

“Okay but that doesn’t explain Malia.” You said standing your ground on the fact while walking to his house “You’ll see.” He said before covering your eyes with his hands carefully walking you into his house, usually you would be amused but you weren’t exactly in the mood to receive a surprise. “Ready? 3…2…1..” you heard Stiles whisper in your ear as you opened your eyes to reveal a beautiful candlelit dinner “I couldn’t get the reservation in time, so Malia helped me with the idea. I don’t know how but that’s why we were spending more time together baby.. do you like it?” He asked fidgeting with his hands waiting for your reaction, you grabbed his hands looking up at him “Baby, I love it.” You said tiptoeing to kiss him.

“No reason to be jealous baby. You have my all.” He said holding you tightly kissing you once more before ushering you to your seat “I better Stilinski.” You said sitting in your seat, looking over at Malia, Scott and Liam “They will be serving us tonight.” Stiles said smirking causing you to laugh “Oh god, this is an anniversary I’m afraid you won’t be able to top.” You said laughing hysterically.

“Oh my love , trust me. I will.” He said taking you hand and placing a gentle kiss on it giving you a quick wink. Now you had to see what else Stiles had up his sleeve.

You were waiting on the steps of Beacon Hills High waiting for Derek to come pick you up, like he promised but as twenty minutes passed you felt less and less sure that he would be coming at all “Hey, (Y/N) still waiting?” You heard Isaac say as he sat next to you on the steps with his lacrosse gear “Practice is already over?” You said in pure shock, watching Isaac slowly nod his head trying not to screw Derek over. “I’ve been waiting for an hour and a half and he’s still not here.” You said giving up hope that he was coming at all, you grabbed your things in defeat “Hey, let me walk you home.” Isaac said grabbing your bag that felt like pure rocks.

“Thanks Isaac.” You said leaning into his shoulder as he wrapped his arm around your waist “It’s okay, I’m sure he has a good reason (Y/N/N).” He said softly as if praying Derek had a good reason. The walk was quiet but that was alright because you weren’t really in the mood to talk about anything and Isaac understood that seeing as it was the third time this week that Derek stood you up. You had finally reached your home to see Derek sitting on your porch with flowers and a small smile, that immediately dropped when he saw Isaac’s hand on your waist. “So what’s this?” Derek sneers referring to Isaac’s hand which was still at your waist.

“Well since you don’t know the first thing about being a boyfriend and keeping your promises, someone has to right.” You said roughly as if it was a slap you had been waiting to give Derek “(Y/N) watch yourself. You wouldn’t want your little lover boy over here hurt would you.” Derek said with his eyes glowing red. You marched up to Derek, not fearing his temper “Derek Hale. I dare you to injure that boy because if you do I’ll never forgive you.” You said likely threatening his authority “Don’t forget, your Alpha position doesn’t effect me. Never will. So don’t you dare disrespect your Luna by treating her like one of your pack members because I can ruin your life.” You said softly tiptoeing to kiss his cheek.

“Bye Isaac, thank you for walking me home AGAIN. Now if you’ll excuse your Alpha because me and him have to talk.” You said threateningly causing Isaac to jet down the block “GOOD LUCK ALPHA!” Isaac yelled picking up full speed until he was no longer seen on the block, Derek turned to face you.

“Am I really in trouble?” He said smirking “Derek, three times in one week. Hell yeah you’re in trouble, now get your fine ass in this house because you got some explaining to do.” You said rolling your eyes as you walked into the house with a sour Alpha following behind you.

Chris Argent:

You were doing your rounds at the hospital when you noticed a familiar name “Argent, C” you rushed into the room to see Chris Argent trying to unwrap his bandages “I’m sure you gave the nurse a hard time to put those on.” You said leaning against the door “Shit. (Y/N). Yeah, she wasn’t my favorite nurse, you know that.” He said winking at you, causing you to laugh.

Every time he was at the hospital he would always find a way to get caught or in trouble just to see you, he always flirted with you and you couldn’t complain because Chris was such an attractive man.

“Ah, Mr. Argent. Trying to gussy up to my girl are we?” Doctor Monroe said reading off Chris’ chart list, you rolled your eyes at the statement. Doctor Monroe had been trying to get into your pants from his first day at the hospital “Oh are you in a relationship? Funny, she never mentioned you when I took her out to dinner.” Chris said calmly and collective as he looked at Doctor Monroe’s expression.

“Well then, you shouldn’t be led on Mr. Argent. So yes me and (Y/N) are together.” Monroe said trying to mimic Chris’ calmness, you began to swat Chris’ hands away and started to rewrap his bandages “Are you sure we’re talking about the same girl because this lovely nurse has already agreed that her heart is mine?” Chris said grabbing your arm and pulling you closer to him “Isn’t that right (Y/N)? You’re all mine?” He said lowly causing you to stare at him mouth slightly open due to his movements and questions “Of course Chris.” You said in a blank state.

“Therefore Doctor Monroe, you have the wrong girl.” Chris said giving the Doctor the side eye as he watched him walk away, still holding you close to him “With all that said, how does dinner sound?” Chris said lowly in your ear “It sounds lovely, Chris I never knew you were the possessive type.” You whispered still in shock “Honey, there are so many thing you have yet to learn about me.” Chris said pulling you away winking at you slightly “Thanks for bandaging me up.” Chris said kissing your hand winking at you, as you blushed and walked out the room trying to breathe evenly.

Liam Dunbar:

You were laying on the bed trying to replay the conversation that you had overhead between Liam and Scott.

“What if I hurt her Scott? What if she doesn’t love me then what? What if it takes over because if anger what am I going to do?” Liam said punching the locker next to his causing you to jump in place. “But what if she likes you too Liam? Then what? Sit here like an idiot and get mad anytime a guy gives her attention?” Scott said leaning against the now beat locker “Scott, I can’t… I don’t want to hurt her..” Liam said with pure fear in his voice “You won’t. Come on, let’s go before someone sees you.” Scott said walking into the bathroom with little Liam following behind him.

You tried to grasp who and what they were talking about when you heard a knock on your window, causing you to turn your head in the direction to reveal Liam Dunbar standing there awkwardly, you quickly opened your window allowing him to enter “Liam, what the hell are you doing at my window? You know I have a door that you can knock on?” You said standing with your hands on your hips. “(Y/N) it’s 3 am. What sane person knocks on a door?” He asked sitting on your bed shutting the window behind him. “Okay, you got me. So what’s up?” You said sitting next to him causing him to shift uncomfortably while blushing. “It’s me.” You said staring at him grabbing his hand “You were talking about me weren’t you?” You asked looking into Liam’s guilty eyes “I knew you were listening.. shit..” he said looking down trying to pull his hands away, you cupped his face causing him to look at you.

“Kyle, Jake, Caleb. I paid them to flirt with me just to see if I was right about my accusations. You like me Dunbar?” You said looking at him “You paid them? What the hell (Y/N).” He said looking at you confused, but you had no answer for his other than bringing your lips down to his, the kiss quickly turned into a feverish heat of need. He softly broke the kiss “Why did you do that?” He asked softly in your ear “What kiss you?” You asked looking away feeling ashamed of your advances until you felt Liam’s hands pin yours to your bed as he slowly dragged his tongue softly down your neck “No, pay them to flirt with you. (Y/N), do you know how dangerous that is?” He asked gripping onto your hands tightly causing you to look at him, his eyes gold and dilated. You had seen his gold eyes before when he was angry or threatened “That was a bad move for such a pretty girl. Do you know what happens when someone tries to take what’s mine?” He said kissing your neck softly.

“What?” You asked breathlessly “I have to mark them.” He said lowly and he then bit down softly on your neck sucking on spot until he was happy with the size. He rose from your bed opening your window “At school, I better see that mark. Or else you won’t like what comes after it.” He said before disappearing from your room, you were confused at his statement until you looked in the mirror and saw the bright red mark on your neck “Liam. Fucking. Dunbar.” You said softly already planning his funeral with a smirk on your face.

You were leaning in your chair with your eyes traveling his face trying to see if he would give you any information by his movement or expression but Peter was a professional when it came to the Sheriff’s department, so you thought a different approach would work better.

You walked over to the front of the desk laying your hands on the sides of Peter’s chair causing him to shift “What is this bad cop, good cop? Honey we both know that it’s not going to work on me.” he said calmly his every word hitting your face “Oh, honey, this isn’t good or bad. This is my hidden attraction for you. I have a thing for criminals in chains.” you whispered softly in his ear causing him to shift uncomfortably “What?” he asked looking at you in pure shock as you smirked leaning against the desk now “Seeing as your weakened by something you didn’t expect I’ll allow someone else to interview you.” You said grabbing your files, walking out of the room to bump into someone hard and psychically hot.

“Shit.” Was all you said as the burning person grabbed your hand and forcefully led you to Sheriff Stilinski’s office. “Want to explain yourself?” Jordan asked you standing in front of you full of authority. You were trying your hard to focus on him but you couldn’t get passed how hot he was pissed off “Well baby, I needed Peter to talk for the departments well being, so I did what I had to do.” You said sitting on the desk not wanting to stand “To hell with the department, do you have feelings for that criminal?” Jordan spat out the words causing you to become putty in his hands “Parrish.” you purred stretching to grab his uniform shirt pulling him closer to you feeling his heat radiant off of him.

“The only man I’m interested has to be single handedly the hottest man on this earth, literally, he burns as hot as a third degree burn yet is alive and I love him and everything about him.” you said wrapping your legs around his waist pulling him closer “And he is the only man that I want, so Jordan Parrish, shut up and kiss me.” you said softly leaning into his lips waiting for them to connect “Not now. Later.” he said unraveling himself from you and throwing you over his shoulder walking out of Sheriff Stilinski’s office gently slapping your ass. “This is all mine.” he said softly looking in the direction of Peter knowing he would be listening.

“Only you would be the one to get caught in something so stupid Peter.” You said cautiously pulling out the bullet lodged into Peter’s chest. “God all you do is bring yourself hell and pain huh?” you ask stitching him up “Is that why you find me attractive?” he said smirking through the pain that was now coursing through his body “Not at all.” you said rolling your eyes looking over at Derek who sat on the couch watching you and his uncle interact “I don’t know why you bother pay him any mind. Hes an old man, you need someone young and ready to take you to heights you’ve never been before.” Derek said smirking laying into the couch causing his uncle to tense up “Is that truly necessary?” Peter grinded his teeth staring coldly at Derek watching him shrug.

“(Y/N), don’t you feel it necessary?” Derek asked grabbing your hand causing you to jump in surprise. “Whatever the hell is going on between you two leave me out of it thank you.” You said packing your medical gear “Peter please, try not to burst your stitches because I won’t be coming back tonight.” You said grabbing your coat ready to exit “Why? Got a hot date?” Derek said now full of curiosity.

“Well if you must know. I do actually.” You said smirking walking out of the loft without a single word. “We’re going to get your girl.” Derek said throwing a jacket at Peter as he shortly followed after you, trying to stay out of sight. When you had reached your home you quickly changed into your shorts and tank top throwing yourself on your couch, with your popcorn on the coffee table and just as you were about to start “Game Of Thrones” you heard a knock at the door “Coming!” you yelled not really wanting to open it.

Once you reached the doorway and opened the door you saw Peter standing there looking inside your home “Are you alone?” he asked confused causing you to laugh “Well, I was until you came. Wanted to see my hot date?” you asked walking into your house sitting back on your couch “I was expecting someone yes.” he said walking behind you closing the door as he made his way to your couch “Your date is the TV show isn’t it?” he asked looking at the screen “No actually. You are.” you said smirking “You think I don’t know how you feel about me? The only reason you even came is because you were angered by the idea of me being with someone else.” you said moving next to him.

“So what if I was?” he said pouting pulling you closer into his side by wrapping an arm around you “Nothing, I would say that it’s cute that you actually have feelings Peter.” you said kissing his cheek “So hot date night?” he asked grabbing the remote which caused you to nod as he began the show. “Best date night.” you said snuggling into his side smelling his cologne and feeling his heartbeat.

“Seriously? He was ALL OVER YOU!” Isaac yelled at you causing you to flinch, he had never raised his voice at you before “Isaac I pushed him away! BUT I’M ONLY HUMAN!” you yelled back feeling anger rise inside you because he knew you weren’t the strongest person in this world. “So his lips, just magically nearly touched yours? Huh?” he spat looking at you in disgust “I slapped him Isaac. Were you even paying attention?” you asked grabbing his jersey pulling him down to look at you.

“Isaac Lahey, you better calm the fuck down. Because you’re acting like a child right now. You know I would never hurt you, so stop it.” you said softly looking at him sink into the ground shaking harshly. “(Y/N), how can I relax.. He’s more open than me, handsome, funny, and isn’t afraid to show you off like you deserve..” he said softly, his voice cracking in between his sentence “How can I compete with a guy who’s beyond me.. I was lucky enough to get you to agree to be my girlfriend because we both know that you’re way out of my league.” he said softly now the tears slowly beginning to slide down his face.

You sat next to him softly cupping his face in the most gentle way possible hoping he would flinch to your touch, as you turned his head he looked into your eyes “Isaac, baby, listen to me. I don’t need a man who is trying to show me off as a prize, I don’t need a man who is openly funny, who flirts with other people, I don’t need anyone who isn’t you. You are my rock and I am your anchor. You can’t get jealous because you feel threatened, Isaac there is no one else that could threaten this relationship. I love you.” you said kissing his forehead, holding his hands squeezing them for support.

“I love that you’re more reserved, and only funny when it’s me and you, I love that you only show me off when you want to because you want to genuinely show others your happy not because you want anyone to envy you. I love you for you Isaac Lahey. Now stop second guessing yourself so I can show off my incredibly sensitive and loving boyfriend.” you say kissing his lips softly getting up from the floor pulling his arm up in the process as he smiled at you “I love you (Y/N).” he said wrapping an arm around you dipping you slowly kissing you intensely before exiting the room to face Beacon Hills once again, but as always you wouldn’t be facing it alone. Not when you have your rock and he had his anchor.

You’d been avoiding Theo like wildfire for about a week and you could tell that his patience with you had come to an abrupt halt as he had now cornered you in the girls locker room after cheer practice. “Care to explain where the hell you’ve been all week?” he said smirking but the yellow eyes glaring at you painted another picture “Of, me. I was just hanging out with Stiles and Scott, why? Did you need me?” you asked pushing past him as you continued to pack your belongings “So youve been avoiding me all week to whore around with two other guys?” Theo said lowly and as badly as you wanted to snap his head off for his comment you kept your cool because you didn’t plan a week’s worth of shit to screw everything up in a second. “I wouldn’t say ‘whoring’ around, more like being tutored to not fail math.” you said slamming your locker facing Theo smiling.

You walked out of the locker room and made your way to your car that was waiting for you in the parking lot “And where do you think you’re going?” he asked swinging your keys between his fingers. “Theo, I’m tired I just want to go home. If you’re offering to drive that’s great.” you said ignoring him and anything he had to say about your previous comment. You sat in your car as you waited for Theo to begin driving you home, the car ride was silent and uneventful but you kept fidgeting in your seat because you couldn’t wait to see his reaction for his surprise. “Okay, were here.” he said still gripping the steering wheel with anger “I have something to show you..” you said opening the car door making your way to your door “What is it? A portrait of you and your two new boyfriends?” he sneered causing you to laugh. “Nope, something way better.” you said opening the door to your home.

You swung the door wide to watch his reaction change, you were a bit afraid because Theo hadn’t celebrated his birthday for a long time since his sister had, passed. “Please don’t hate it or me.. I worked so hard for this Theo.. I know you are fond of parties but I felt like you deserved one.” you said drifting off “I don’t deserve anything (Y/N). I’m a monster and you know it.” he said softly looking over the banner and presents laying on the floor of the table that had food and a cake you had made from scratch.

“No Theo, you’re wrong. You do deserve this, if you’re a monster then what does that make us? No one in this life is innocent.” you said grabbing his hand “I haven’t celebrated my birthday in so long, I completely forgot I even had one..” he said softly looking at you “I made sure to be well prepared considering I’ve never done anything like this.. Hence why I needed Stiles and Scott ot help me..” you said looking at the ground “So you ignored me all week to plan out my birthday.. And I call you a whore….” he said now feeling hatred wash over him “Hey I know you get jealous fast and just to crazy ideas.. I know you didn’t mean it.. But I would never cheat on you. Just because you’re a smart ass doesn’t mean you don’t deserve happiness.” you said walking him towards his cake.

“I don’t deserve happiness.. But you are more than I’ve ever deserved in my entire life and yet I’m blessed to have you.. I should be banished to hell for touching and corrupting an Angel.” he said lifting your chin with his finger slowly planting a kiss on your lips “Oh darling, me and you both know we have a one way ticket, so cut your shit and make a wish.” you said smiling at him as he pulled you in front of him causing him to lean down “I already have all I can wish for in one person.” he said blowing out his candles kissing your neck before swiping his finger across the frosting and wiping it on your face “THEO!” you yelled as he ran away from you laughing. Yes this was true happiness, just the two of you together.

I don’t dream of hurting her but if you don’t believe me you can have your whole pack hunt me down, if she hasn’t killed me herself.” Brett said looking at Liam watching him calm down.

“There’s no need to worry about her attention going else where because you guys will always be her family, but I’ll be her boyfriend. She’s an amazing person and I would hate to ruin the friendship you have with her and the friendship that started to grow between us again.” Brett said watching Liam smile lightly “Yeah L there’s no reason to get jealous, you will always be my best friend.” you said walking out of Brett’s arms to hug Liam.

“And you’ll always be mine (Y/N/N).” he said hugging you back “Plus we can still make fun of Douche Ford.” you whispered in Liam’s ear causing him to laugh “I can hear you.” Brett said sighing loudly “Good.” you said pulling apart from Liam walking back to Brett, who held your hand and began to walk you out of the corridor “Hey Talbot, if you break her heart or ruin her, we will kill you as a pack. Mark my words.” Liam said lowly eyes flashing so fast and then changing back to their regular form.

Brett nodded smiling as he held you closer to him kissing your forehead “I think I have more to worry about than you. You’re the real heartbreaker here babe.” he said slapping your ass quickly while kissing your cheek “Mhm. Got that right Talbot.” you said winking at him.

Derek is Scott’s older brother. Stiles is Scott’s best friend. Derek is falling in love with Stiles. This is a bit of a problem.

Mating Habits of the Domesticated North American Werewolf by lielabell

Derek doesn’t do pining. He doesn’t. So when it becomes clear that Stiles is much more interested in having Derek as a new best friend than a boyfriend, he puts on his big boy pants and makes it fucking work. He becomes the best goddamn friend a spastic teenager could ever hope to have.

Don’t Speak by fatale

The Alpha pack has systematically attacked Stiles and his friends for months, testing their strengths and weaknesses. When one of the Alphas goes after Stiles, he awakens in the hospital and realizes that something’s wrong. Very wrong. All sounds seem to hurt him, he can’t understand what anyone is saying, and when he tries to speak, it’s gibberish. How is he supposed to deal with the fact that he’s lost the ability to communicate with his dad and his friends?

Without his ability to talk, his sarcasm, and his wit, what does Stiles even have left? Enter Derek, the only one who seems to make it better.

Enemy Lines by qhuinn (tekla)

This is the story of werewolf Derek Hale and human Stiles Stilinski: two people who grew up in the same town but completely different worlds, their realities split by the war between men and wolves.

Years later when Derek returns to Beacon Hills, he does it as Alpha of a military pack on a mission to capture those responsible for the region’s resistance. With his main objective, Sheriff Stilinski, out of sight, he settles for the next best thing: his son, Stiles.

Neither of them suspects they’ll need to trust each other if they want to make it out this alive.

AU, Firefighter Derek

In which Derek is the grumpy neighborhood firefighter, and Stiles is a bit of a lovestruck idiot.

Stiles winces as he turns the corner, unbearably nervous like he always is whenever he drives Lydia’s car, and pulls into the fire station. He offered this morning to help her with any errands she needed, and she asked him to take her car to the fire station and have them install the car seat. Stiles had no idea this was even a thing—seriously, how hard is it to put in a car seat?—but unsurprisingly, Lydia is as fastidious about her unborn child’s safety as she is about everything else.

He parks just outside the front door, careful not to block the big bays with the two fire trucks, and wanders inside. “Hello?” he calls out. There’s a noise coming from the other side of the fire truck, so Stiles keeps walking in that direction, then nearly trips over his own two feet.

There’s a guy, crouched down as he washes the wheel well of the fire truck, and Stiles is 101 percent sure that he’s the most attractive person he’s ever seen. He’s frowning, as if he’s pissed at the task in front of him, but it only serves to show off the sharp cut of his jaw under a very nicely-shaped short beard. He’s wearing a tight short-sleeved SFFD t-shirt, which is wet in patches and very clearly showing off the muscled physique underneath.

“Holy shit.”

The guy’s head jerks up at that, his eyes wide, and his gaze locks with Stiles’ for a long second before slowly drifting down the rest of his body. Stiles damn near forgets how to breathe because yep, this impossibly hot dude is most definitely checking him out.

Stiles has never believed in love at first sight, and he still doesn’t, but as of this moment he most certainly does believe in…familiarity at first sight? Cosmic connection? Just plain lust? He has no fucking clue.

But he yelps a little in surprise, then actually manages to trip over nothing, only catching himself by clutching the pillar next to him, which oh fuck, is actually the fire pole. He finally rights himself, grimacing with both arms spread for balance, and then slaps a hand over his eyes with a plaintive groan.

“Oh my god. Hi, hello, my name is Stiles. Uh, any chance we can start over and pretend that this excruciatingly embarrassing encounter didn’t happen?”

accidentally?

Based on this prompt I said I’d fill a few days ago:

boss: “know why I called you in here?”
me: “because I accidentally sent you a dick pic”
boss: “accidentally?”

yup.

(on ao3)

“You need to stop pining after people you haven’t even spoken to,” Lydia says one day, probably because Derek—er, Mr. Hale, their boss—has just stepped through the front door of the cafe where they’re having lunch, and Stiles has trailed off mid-word to watch him walk up to the counter. In Stiles’ defense, he’s never seen Mr. Hale outside of the office before, let alone Mr. Hale wearing a leather jacket over his dress shirt. God, and Stiles thought the tailored suits were bad enough…

Anyway.

“Uh, I have too spoken to him,” Stiles says indignantly, tearing his eyes away from Derek’s broad back across the room. “One day I was coming out of the break room and I almost walked right into him and he said, ‘Excuse me,’ so then I said, ‘Oops,’ and he smiled at me. Kind of. A little bit. I mean, I interpreted it as a smile. There was some prolonged eye contact.”

Lydia abruptly stops stirring her fat-free latte to stare at him—one of those Oh god, it’s worse than I thought kind of looks. “That’s it?”

Stiles as a professional cuddler who takes Derek on as a client? (With a side of mutual pining, Laura being a good older sister, and Noah being a good dad.)

*coughs* John…..John. (I AM SORRY, NONNIE. I CAN’T ABIDE BY CANON. I CANT.

I have to say, I really wish there were more fics out there that had this trope because I really, really love it. I think what I love most about it is because it’s all about Derek and his issues with trust and touch. I am very interested in the notion that Derek isn’t comfortable with people touching him after the fire because of what he went through with Kate but he is comfortable with paying someone to touch him because that leaves him in control.

Laura is the one who suggests a professional cuddler because she knows her brother and Derek is either going to find himself very badly touch starved for years to come or he’s going to fall into another bad-touch sexual relationship out of some guilt ridden punishment trip. There is no in between with Derek. And so, she researches and finds Stiles. She likes him immediately because the people who leave reviews on his website all have one thing in common: that he loves to talk. Laura knows Derek isn’t much of a talker, especially these days, but she thinks it couldn’t hurt to have someone who isn’t afraid of communication, and possibly someone who might actually get Derek to talk back. Lord knows she’s tried to get Derek to talk; to her, to a therapist. Nothing has worked. But maybe this will.

Derek is hesitant about Stiles - “what kind of name is Stiles anyway?” - but he has to admit, the idea of being held is….kind of nice. No sex. No complications. Just someone he pays to cuddle with him for an hour every week; a simple and smooth transaction that couldn’t possibly lead to anything bad.

The problem first starts when he sees Stiles because, in one word, he’s gorgeous. Derek is kind of annoyed he doesn’t stop being gorgeous even when he half trips in the hallway and makes a lame cuddling joke, fishing a spoon out of his back pocket and with a truly impressive eyebrow waggle says, “wanna spoon?” Derek privately wonders if Stiles brought the spoon from home, if he opens with that joke with all his new clients, or if he stole the spoon from some coffee shop on the way over, struck by sudden inspiration. Derek is kind of frustrated when he finds himself hoping it’s the second one.

Stiles is strangely anal about his job. He treats “cuddling procedures” like it’s BDSM, or something. He asks Derek at least thirty questions, only half of which Derek is able to answer without his cheeks colouring:

“Have you ever hired a professional cuddler before?” No.

“Being a werewolf - yes, I can tell you’re a werewolf, don’t look so surprised - would you prefer I didn’t wear any odours? Body spray, cologne, that sort of thing?” Clean. Just, uh, clean is good.

Would you like me to make a playlist for us to cuddle to? Those are very popular.” No, that’s really not necessary.

How do you feel about versatile spooning options?” Oh. I, um….could you….I mean…..would you do the…..I just want….. “No problem, big guy.”

Their first session is a little awkward and he feels downright silly handing Stiles the money after, but he has to admit, he didn’t….dislike it. In fact, three hours later, he texts Stiles to book another session. By session four, Derek has gotten over his initial embarrassment and just learns to enjoy being held. Stiles talks about a lot of things, tracing his fingers over Derek’s arms, his face, his hands: he talks about why people need contact and why it’s not stupid or something to be made fun of; he talks about Star Wars and his dad; when he finds out Derek likes history, he spends their entire eighth session talking about the Trojan War - “I know it’s not real history. I was going to try and learn about an actual war for you but I got side tracked when I found out, like, half of The Iliad is about two dudes in love. How cool is that???” He then spends an extra forty minutes talking to Derek about queer censorship in history textbooks (somehow managing to work the history of the male circumcision in there). Derek wants to tell him the session is technically over, but for some reason (he’d really rather not confront) he stays quiet and lets Stiles’ voice wash over him, before falling asleep. (He later learns when Laura tried to pay him for the over-time, Stiles had blushed furiously and told her it was on him, before running out of the apartment and muttering something about “rules”.)

Session fifteen is when Derek realises Stiles is the most important person in his life, aside from Laura and Cora. And not only that, but it’s happening again: his heart is racing and his palms are sweating, and what’s worse? He’s daydreaming. Not many people know Derek is a daydreamer. Most people think he probably just sits and broods or occupies every waking hour either working out or reading. Even Laura teases him about it. Derek, however, is a big day dreamer. His romantic day dreams have changed over the years: when he first met Paige, he imagined her at his basket ball games and what prom night might be like; with Kate, he had silly fantasies of introducing her to his family, of teaching her about the full moon and opening up about his history. Derek knows day dreaming is dangerous. At least, for him. It’s always led to bad things. But he can’t help it, even now.

Because with Stiles it’s different.

When he day dreams about Stiles, he imagines holding his hand and what it might be like to bury his face in his neck, knowing Stiles would already know what that means because Stiles always knows. And not in some calculating, malicious way, like Kate. It’s a though Stiles files aspects of Derek’s life away like they are facts that might come in handy for a game of trivial pursuit. He plays out silly domestic fantasies in his head where he is trying to make them pancakes and Stiles starts a food war, covering them both in flour and jam. He imagines what it might be like to have Stiles hold him after sex and tell him he’s good, that he did good; imagines hearing Stiles say, “I’ll see you at home” and texting Derek lame jokes throughout the day until he does.

When Stiles comes over for their 15th session, he’s a mess. He’s obviously been crying and Derek can’t tell why, but he smells strongly of roses. Stiles, like Derek, is pretty skilled at hiding his feelings but the moment he goes to lie down on the bed, he breaks. Derek doesn’t think he could stop crying, even if he wanted to, and even though he knows Stiles probably doesn’t want a client - because that’s what Derek is, a client - seeing him like this, he can’t help but lie down beside him and hold out his arms. Stiles shuffles towards him without even considering it, and Derek doesn’t  care he’s getting tears and snot all over his favourite Henley because the moment he brings a hand up and soothes it up and down Stiles’ back, Stiles melts into him. Utterly trusting. He says something about his mom.

It’s the best and most painful feeling in the world and Derek is beyond grateful that Stiles isn’t a werewolf, can’t hear how hard his heart is beating or smell the jumble of emotions coursing through him.

They lie like that for an hour, maybe, before Stiles starts to get restless. He tries apologising, offers Derek a session on the house, but Derek barely hears him, lost. Lost in a confusing bag of mixed emotions and instead of answering Stiles, says, “let’s order pizza”.

The pizza comes within thirty minutes, and two hours later - half way through the third Harry Potter movie - Stiles leans in and kisses him. It lasts for twelve seconds - Derek doesn’t know why he counts - and when it’s over, Stiles pulls back, eyes wide, and yells something about Derek having the last slice of pizza, before running. Derek listens to him run all the way out of the apartment block and to his Jeep, lips tingling, heart sinking.

They don’t see each other for four months. Stiles ignores all his phone calls and after a while, Derek gives up. He doesn’t stop day dreaming, though. He takes an almost masochistic pleasure in it - maybe it’s a form of self punishment, who knows. He doesn’t care if it doesn’t count as “growth”. He day dreams to the point that he isn’t sure if Stiles is a figment of his imagination when he shows up at his door soaking wet, like the ending of some cheesy romantic comedy. Derek would laugh at the bitter-sweetness of it; that is, until Stiles’ hands are on his face and he’s talking….and talking…..and talking. Talking about rules and professionalism and “never happened to me before”. He talks until Derek finds himself smiling. He talks until Derek finds his hands shaking, and finally, finally, until he can find it in him to put a finger to Stiles’ lips.

“Shut up.”

Stiles does.

“If I asked you to kiss me again, would you want to?”

Stiles swallows, takes a breath. “Depends, are you going to pay me for it?”

Derek raises an eyebrow for appearance sake, says, “only in more kisses”, and then blushes furiously because cheesy flirting is not a thing he does outside of his own head. Except, apparently now it is. And he plans to do much more of it, especially if it makes Stiles laugh like that again. Just….maybe not in public. God though, he loves hearing Stiles laugh. He wants to hear it all the time. Maybe he would risk the PDA.

“Make a deal with me?” Stiles asks, closing the space between them, mapping out both of Derek’s eyebrows with a curious finger. He smiles, like he’s figured something out about him, just from that. “Buy me a milkshake every Saturday and let me hold your stupid hand during movies and you can have all the cuddling sessions you want for free.”

Derek pretends to consider this, takes Stiles’ free hand and playfully bites down. “Sounds like a good deal,” he whispers.

Stiles grins. “Oh, I assure you, it is.”

daliaaaaa could you tell me your fave sterek fics please?? :)

How could you ask me this? Do you have any idea how many sterek fics I’ve read over the years? How many I’ve loved?

This is a short list of the very few I could think of off the top of my head. I think I’ll probably make a recs page, because I’ve been meaning to for a long time. I have a recs tag, but that includes different pairings as well.

Sideways and Slantways and Longways and Backways

“I called you a slave-driver!” Stiles cried hysterically. “I called you an ogre! I stole all the blue paperclips!”
Derek raised an eyebrow at him.
“That’s company property!” he shouted, waving his arms madly in distress.
Derek ran a hand over his face. “It’s not theft if the vice president of the company gives you permission.”

The Price

Stiles must surrender the most important thing in his life to protect the town… and no one can figure out what it was.

Around The Bend

The first time Derek catches sight of the new yoga instructor, Stiles is in the middle of showing a class how to do downward-facing dog. Derek walks into a wall.

Things don’t exactly improve from there.

Derek can’t stop staring at Stiles, the bendy new yoga instructor at his family’s gym. Stiles thinks Derek’s a repressed homophobe who hates Stiles for making him want the D. They fall in love.

And suddenly there were 400

Seriously though, it was like three days ago tops when I announced 300. I swear you’re just trying to squeeze celebratory fics out of me …

“You’re so fucking stubborn!” Stiles shouts in exasperation, running his hands through already messy hair. They had been at it for at least twenty minutes now, arguing because Derek didn’t want to go to Lydia’s engagement party. He didn’t want to, knowing Lydia would be inviting everyone and their mother who had anything to do with her and Parrish. It would be too many people, too much noise and he simply didn’t want to if she was going to hold a pack-only version the week after. Stiles said he should go out of duty as her Alpha.

“No, you just won’t let it go,” Derek growls, fists clenched in his lap so his claws don’t rip up the couch again. Although, last time, it was under much more fun circumstances.

It wasn’t uncommon for them to argue. It ranged from small skirmishes that end in mumbled apologies to bigger blow outs that ended in mutually satisfying hate sex that Stiles seemed to enjoy enough to start shit for (and Derek plays along because he loves his boyfriend and absolutely not because he likes it, too). The fights could rarely be called fights because it just was never really that heated.

Derek’s nose wanted to shrivel up and die with the anger Stiles’ scent was boiling in and his wolf howled with such an unhappy mate. Even as his human mind wanted to throw something at a wall with how angry he was, his wolf prowled in distress and he wasn’t sure if that was annoying or reassuring.

“News flash, buddy, you can’t be a hermit,” Stiles spits and Derek growl increases in volume in response. He may grumble about ‘big guy’ and snap his teeth as Stiles giggles about ‘sourwolf’, but he absolutely despised ‘buddy’. It only ever came out when Stiles was pissed and his sarcasm grew teeth that he intended to shred whoever his opponent was.

“I’m not a hermit, I go out. We go out,” Derek snaps back, eyes tracking as Stiles paces in front of where he sits on the couch. The line of his shoulders is stiff and the soft skin of his cheeks is blotched red.

“Yes, thank you, you’re dating me, but that doesn’t count as social interaction.”

“Why not?”

“Because! You need more people in your life besides me and the pack! You can’t have just me forever!” Stiles shouts, throwing his arms up obviously trying to dispel the anger that seems to build in his joints when he gets worked up. Derek just scoffs as he gets up and retreats to their kitchen.

He stops right there, even as Stiles continues his angry rant in the other room behind him. He pauses in the middle of their kitchen with the backsplash Stiles chose after weeks of debating it over and the cabinets Derek bled over while he installed them (staple guns were dangerous, damnit). Down the hall was a movie room that Stiles insisted on because pack movie nights were always going to be a thing. Upstairs and to the left was the master bedroom where their scents were so soaked into the very frame work, there was no way to tear apart Derek’s from Stiles’. This was their home, their pack, their life.

Derek turned around, eyes wide but unflinching as he walked back to where Stiles was still ranting and pacing. He’s still seething, and Derek can relate. He still wants to throw Stiles onto the couch and pin him there in full shift for a week until Lydia’s party has past. Instead he stops a few feet away and opens his mouth.

“Marry me.” Stiles stumbles where he’s wearing a divot into the carpet, dropping off mid-sentence to turn his head and stare open mouthed.

the blazing bombardier.

Idk, this is just a summery fluffball of a Sterek getting-together drabble because I’m tired of winter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Derek fundamentally doesn’t understand people who like roller coasters.

He knows such people exist because he’s been standing in line with them for the Blazing Bombardier for half an hour now, but even when he’s looking right at them, it’s hard to believe. Seriously, why. The list of things to do on a Saturday afternoon that don’t involve screaming and trying not to hurl is literally infinite. He could be lounging around in his pjs in his dorm right now and rereading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, just for example. Or working out, or going for a drive to the beach, or watching a movie with Boyd and Erica. (Boyd and Erica are officially his favorite people right now because, unlike his sisters, they understand the basic concept that friends don’t make their friends who lose bets ride the most terrifying invention since clown costumes.)

The line moves forward, and oh god, now Derek can actually see the loading station. The seats are wicked-looking hanging harnesses painted to look like flames. He’s going to be sick before he even sits down in the thing.

anonymous asked:

You guys MUST give us more details about the proposal(s) - How Stiles proposed and how Derek was planning to propose. Please and thank you <3

“Son, you need to calm down.”

Stiles paused in his pacing to spin on his heel, arms flailing, and fixed his father with a wide-eyed stare.

“Calm down?” His voice hitched, “Calm down? You told me he’s going to propose, dad. That’s- that’s huge.”

John raised one hand in a sort of placating gesture, “Now, I never said-”

“You implied it,” Stiles was vaguely aware that his hands were shaking as he dialled Derek’s number, for the third time in the span of a minute. A frustrated noise died in his throat when it went straight to voicemail, again.

“Stiles, I don’t get why you’re making such a big deal out of this,” John stabbed another piece of lettuce with his plastic fork, and pulled a face as if it had personally offended him. “This tastes like nothing.”

“Eat your goddamn salad,” Stiles muttered, eyes fixed on his screen as he typed out a string of texts. Badly punctuated, slightly hysterical texts.

“Not until you sit down and tell me what the issue is, here,” John tilted his head meaningfully towards the chair across from him, “I don’t want you having a panic attack.”

Stiles slumped into the seat, reluctant, and bit at his thumb. He narrowed his eyes at his left knee, which kept bobbing up and down as his leg twitched.

“What’s the problem, Stiles?”

I was the one who was supposed to propose first, okay?” the words left his mouth faster than he could think of them, a little louder than he’d intended. At his father’s questioning look, he took a deep breath and continued, “In theory. I mean, I didn’t see it happening for another year or two.”

“So you think it’s too soon.”

“Not necessarily, no- it’s just…” Stiles exhaled heavily, ran unsteady fingers through his hair, “maybe. Maybe it is. That’s the problem- I’m not sure. Do you really think we’re ready for this?”

“I know that you and Derek love each other,” the Sheriff’s brow was furrowed, “There isn’t any doubt there, right?”

“None at all,” Stiles said- immediately, reflexively. “It’s just that…God, I don’t know.” he groaned and dropped his head into his hands.

“Didn’t you have any doubts before you proposed to mom?” he asked quietly, through his fingers.

“Of course I did,” his dad’s response was soft, “How could I not? She was an amazing woman and I still wasn’t entirely convinced I deserved her. But…” Stiles lifted his head in time to see his dad shrug. “It’s normal to have doubts, son.”

The sound that escaped Stiles was helpless: “Derek’s not perfect, but neither am I. I’m kind of obnoxious and I talk too much and–  and at the end of the day, I’m just kinda an anxious mess, dad. I still have the nightmares, like, weekly. Should anyone really have to put up with that?

“And- and Derek has his own issues, but at the end of the day I’ve actually seen that he’s the sweetest goofball of a man and I love him so much and he’s probably got some huge romantic gesture planned that I could never top but, goddammit, I really wanted to propose to him first-”

“I’m going to stop you there,” his dad levelled him with a look, “Just tell him, Stiles.”

“What- tell him what?” Stiles muttered to his knees.

“Everything you just told me.”

“But I-”

“Go to him, tell him these things, and- goddammit, Stiles- just propose to him, if you want to propose.”

“I. I don’t have a ring, though-”

Go.” His father jabbed a finger towards the door.

Stiles shot up from his chair and was out of the office within the minute.

John dumped his salad in the trash.

The front porch of the Hale house made one hell of a noise when you walked on it- Stiles knew this, because he was physically incapable of walking around quietly (unlike certain werewolves that he knew). Currently, it was kicking up one hell of a protest as he stomped towards the front door, floorboards whining under his sneakers; not that he cared, not that he really registered the sound over the rushing in his ears. His heart was in his throat and his mind was running a mile a minute and he needed to remind himself to breathe.

Stiles took a shuddery breath and flung the door open. It hit the inside wall with a bang.

I was going to propose first, asshole!”

Okay, maybe not the best way he could have phrased that. He’d have to try again.

Derek, who seemed to be in the middle of assembling some kind of furniture, fumbled and dropped the screwdriver in his hands (goddammit, Derek never fumbled, what the hell). He turned to face Stiles; his ridiculous puppy eyes were wide and his eyebrows were doing the thing.

“Stiles, what-”

“You know what.” Stiles stalked across the room, gripped the front of Derek’s henley with his fists. “You were going to propose tomorrow, weren’t you?”

“I-” Derek looked crestfallen, suddenly, eyes shifting to the side as he said, “I’m sorry? I-”

“No, shut up and listen to me,” Stiles’ voice was low, intense, as he leaned closer and made Derek look him in the eye.

“I love you so much, Derek. So freaking much it scares me.” He loosened his grip a fraction, smoothed down the wrinkles in Derek’s shirt with one hand, “I love how you have this sense of humour that you only really share with me. I love the little crinkles around your eyes when you smile. I actually kind of love when you’re grumpy, too.

“I like it when you don’t shave and you get stubble burn all over me. I like that you’re actually, like, friends with my dad,” Stiles laughed, “I. I still have no idea how that happened, actually.”

Derek grabbed onto the hand that Stiles kept running down his shirt, lacing their fingers together,“Stiles–”

“No, I’m not done. So, yeah, sometimes we have our differences, like when you argue that a bald cupcake most definitely is a muffin-”
“But it is-”

“Shut up, it’s not.” He pressed his fingers to Derek’s lips, and Derek’s eyebrows shot up. “I’m trying to tell you that I love our differences. I love that we can argue and it can still be fun.”

Derek’s lips twitched, like he was fighting a smile.

Stiles lowered his eyes and went on,  “And…and I love that you’ll wake me up from my nightmares, help me count my fingers and calm down- and I just. I–” he shook his head, “I’m being cheesy, now, or whatever, I know– but you probably had something three times as romantic as this planned, so.”

Derek stared at him for a minute, gaze soft. He pressed a kiss to Stiles’ fingers, and Stiles lowered his hand.

“May I speak now?” Derek murmured.

“Just,” Stiles threw his hands up, “Will you marry me or not, you dork?”

Derek swept him- literally swept him into his arms, his feet left the floor- into what could only be described as a bruising kiss. Stiles made a soft, desperate noise and clutched at Derek’s shoulders, raised one hand and slid it along Derek’s jaw. Derek bit at his lower lip, licked into his mouth, and Stiles groaned and arched into him, seeking the warmth, craving the intensity. Gradually, the kiss slowed- became something softer, sweeter. Stiles pulled back reluctantly to take a breath, and Derek mouthed at his jaw.

“That’s a yes, right?” Stiles asked, on an exhale.

Derek buried his face in Stiles’ neck and laughed.

“You’re ridiculous,” Derek’s lips moved against his throat- soft, familiar. “Of course I’ll marry you.”

Stiles grinned so hard it hurt, and ran his fingers through Derek’s hair, “Good. Wanna put me down, now?”

“Nah,” Derek nipped at him playfully, “Think I wanna carry you upstairs.”

“Oh, good idea, yes. The best idea.” He hit at Derek’s shoulder, “Go, what are you waiting for.”

It didn’t take them very long to get to the bedroom.

((hope this was okay, anon <3))
