i love harvey's face

There was not enough gay on my dash so I made some myself. I do not usually care for shipping characters but I like to see what others come up with their imagination. One of the most enjoyable one has been Cobblepot and Dent Somehow some people have made two insane people seem sane by being in healthy looking relationship. It’s somehow inspiring.

We got monsters to find. And you’ll find them. I have to go. But this city’s in danger. You got this. I know you do. And I have more important things to do. But… And Harvey… Yeah? You’re the boss now. Maybe get a haircut?

I love how in Harvey Beaks, there isn’t in-your-face morals, but there are little takeaways.

“Some things are too big for us, and that’s okay”

“You don’t get to experience anything really cool without being a bit uncomfortable”

The dream sequence was aesthetically beautiful. I loved the relaxed, intimate atmosphere, the look on Harvey’s face as he watched Donna in his bed, that it-was-a-long-time-coming light in his eyes. It was beautiful. My heart melted a bit.

Now, skipping to the mom issue and the talk with his therapist, I’m reading people talking about his feelings for Donna not being romantic, or her taking the place of his mom in his life when she first settled in it, and I think you’re getting confused about this. There was no moment when Harvey saw Donna as his mother, let’s clear this up. But, Donna is the most important woman in his life, he loves her (now I can say that without using inverted commas or anything), and in his experience the most important woman of your life will break your trust, your heart, she will cheat on you and abandon you, because that’s what his mom did to his dad, and to him.

This fear - which he buried and denied, so much that he can’t face it - reached every level of his life. He projected his abandonement issues on his clients with “people don’t leave me” - he’s the best in his field and he gives it all because this way people won’t leave him. He has one night stands and shaky relationships because he can’t be all in, because the moment he is the woman will break his trust and abandon him. It’s not rational, but fear never is.

And since he can’t reconcile this prophecy with Donna, because after all these years he wouldn’t survive if this happened with Donna, he chooses to deny he has romantic feelings for her, because he has none then she won’t break his heart, and she won’t have a reason to leave him. Ironic considering how things turned out.

Subconsciously he chose to hold on to Donna the only way that it granted him to keep her forever - the work. Relationships end, and marriages fall apart, but work is work, it is not questionable. He is married to the work, hence he was married to Donna, BUT if she had other men in non-office hours it didn’t traslate with cheating and abandonement. it bothered him that she had someone but he could ignore them because from 9 to 5 they didn’t exsist, she only concentrated on him. Things got harder when she started dating Stephen because he worked with them, so somehow he was sharing her during the hours she was contractually his. He paid her salary becauce he didn’t care for the money, she could have them all if it made her stay, but he never admitted his feelings for her because that, in his mind, was the first step to lose her. They know you care, they walk all over you. Donna is not like that, but this kind of life is all that he knows. his dad was loyal and faithful to his mother, but she went behind his back multiple times and, in the end, she abandoned him. That’s why he has this policy, that “if you’re loyal to me I’m loyal to you”.

He took the risk of a relationship with Zoe and Scotty because they were not Donna, they were not his everything, if they abandoned him he could survive it, he could go on undamaged, which has not happened when Donna left.

Donna represented his mom in his dream because both of them are, in different parts on his life, the most important woman, and he’s been projecting on Donna the things his mom did to his dad (and consequently to him), which scares the shit out of him, enough to have him beingin denial for 12 years straight about his feelings for her.
