A/N: Short cute little drabble. Because Tom’s a lil shit (I do love him, don’t come at me)

I opened the door of our bedroom to go to the bathroom when I heared a hiss and Tom curse at the same time.
“Tom leave the cat alone!”,I called while walking towards the crime scene just to see the two of them staring at each other.

“What did you do?”, I said and leaned my hands on my hips, raising a questioning brow at him.
“I’m not doing nothing! She is just evil.”,he defended himself and I picked her up. She started purring immediatly and pushed her head under my chin.

“I might have stepped on her tail.”

“Tom!”,I exclaimed and he threw his hands in the air.

“She was just there! She is so sneaky. I hate cats. Tessa is always very recognizable when she walks and sits behind me.”,he defended himself and I furrowed my brows while letting her down. She walked away with her tail in the air, showing her affection.

“Just leave her alone. How does that sound?”, I offered and he crossed his arms infront of his chest.
“I would! If she would leave me alone too.”

“Tom she’s a cat.”

“Exactly!”

“You’re unbelievable.”,I said while pinching the bridge of my nose and shook my head.

After that little incident I went back to change my clothes and we had breakfast together.
“Did your agent call you yet?”,I asked after taking a sip of my tea and he shook his head while flipping through his script.
“I’m staying at home today. Gotta read the script. Learn some lines. You?”, he asked and I put my plate and my mug into the sink after finishing my breakfast.
“I gotta rush out. I got some presentations. Should I take Tessa with me? She’ll be bored with you at home.”,I offered and he shrugged his shoulders.

“Sure.”

“Alright. I’ll see tonight then.”,I said while standing up and gave him a quick peck on his cheek before leaving.

I came home really late. It was past 11pm and I was tired to a point where I couldn’t focus longer then ten seconds on something. I took Tessa off her leash as soon as I closed the door and she walked off into our bedroom where her own bed was. I took my jacket off and kicked my shoes off before walking into the living room. And let me tell you one thing: He did not hear me coming.

There he was lying on the couch with my cat on top of his belly, stroking over her furr while humming a song to himself.
“You’re not that bad, you know.”,he said suddenly and took her head between his hands petting her behind her ears. She purred in response and leaned her head against his palms.
“But if you tell Y/N about any of this, I’m gonna have to kill you, is that clear?”,he kept talking to her with a serious expression and made her look into his eyes to which I couldn’t surpress my laugh anymore. His head shot in my direction and he stared at me with wide eyes.

“Wow.”

“It’s not what it looks like.”,he defended himself and sat up which made her jump off of him.

“That does not look like hate.”, I teased him while walking over to the couch and he rolled his eyes.

“Shut up.”, he said and I sat down next to him. He wrapped his arm around me and I leaned against his side, my hand resting on his chest.
“So…you and Riceball?”, I asked him and he groaned while pushing me away from himself and made me laugh.

“I’m kidding! I’m kidding. Come here.”,I said and pulled him closer to me and cupped his face with my hands.
“I love you.”,I said and he squinted his eyes.
“Are you saying that because I might not hate your cat or because you do love me?”,he questioned me and it was my turn to roll my eyes.
“Shut up and kiss me Holland.”,I said and a smirk appeared on his lips.
“Doesn’t matter. You’re mine anyways.”, he said before leaning in with a big smile on his face. He kissed my lips gently and tugged at my bottom lip as the kiss got more intense with every passing second. As I was about to slip my fingers under his shirt he jumped apart and almost knocked my teeth out.

“Ouch!”,we yelled simultanously. But while I was holding my mouth he was staring down his leg where a very excited Riceball was climbing her way up.
“What the hell is she doing? Get off!”, he yelled and made me laugh out loud.
“She is just playing with you! She likes you.”

“Playing my ass! She wants to rip me apart.”, he said while gently pushing Riceball off of himself.

“She is a cat, for gods sake!”

“Exactly!”,he said with raised brows and stood up to walk out of the living room, slightly pouting.

Lams Rebel AU

John paced around the living room/actual bedroom Alexander and him shared. John sighed and snatched his phone from the charger to see maybe, just maybe Alex had sent him a message. 

Nothing. John rolled his eyes and walked onto the cold balcony. The night sky clear with what John thought was doubt and regret. John gripped phone as the normal ping of a new text message. John looked at it and breathed back tears as Alex typed. 


John I’m at Jeff’s. 

John sighed and used the back of his hand to wipe away the tears threatening to fall. John typed back despite his hands shaking. 

Oh!Well are you coming back? 

Those two minutes were the longest in John’s life but finally Alex responded. 

Sorry John But I’ll stay at Jeff’s for tonight. 

John looked at the message and wanted to throw the phone off the balcony and cry just like he’s done before. This is normal, why couldn’t he accept it? Alex didn’t love him. 

It’s okay, I mean you have no reason to justify, we’re not a couple or anything.

John took a shaky breathe and watched the message Alexander typed. 

C’mon you sound salty. 

John tried on last time to blink back his tears before responding with the one sentence he also thought of. 

Just saying the truth.

John gave up and let the tears fall. He didn’t care anymore, he just wanted the truth to stop hurting him like it always did. Finally he mustered up the courage to type another sentence. 

Have fun you two. 

Alexander  knew that John was hurting behind the innocent words. He never wanted to hurt his best friend. 

John please, I don’t wanna hurt you.

John wanted to laugh. He wanted Alex to see how much he hurts every time. 

Pft well too bad. You know you do it all the  time.

Alexander never knew how to handle this, he loved John but never in the same way John did to him. 

I told you I’m not interested in you. 

John wanted to scream but he knew that would be hated in the morning. He typed out a message that was straight forward and he wasn’t proud of that. 

And yet you keep seducing me Alex.

No one responded and John threw his phone on the couch. Lafayette listened to the whole scene and it broke his heart. He sighed and walked in to see John crying. He walked to him and placed his head on his chest.  

John didn’t say anything, just took the comfort. Lafayette closed his eyes and let John sob, no talking was ever needed with these two. All John ever wanted was to be happy like Laf was when he and Herc started to date. That’s all he ever wanted and yet is was too much to ask for.

FIRST OF ALL, the Joker was written in a way that made him so obviously a gay character, at least if you ask me, and the hero/villain relationship between Batman and the Joker was treated like they were a couple

The entire plot happens because it’s all Joker trying to make Batman acknowledge their relationship and admit there’s something special between them

Literally all of Joker’s motivation to do what he does is to make Batman think of him the same way he thinks of him

He literally “breaks up” with Batman at one part because Batman wouldn’t say “I hate you too” when Joker said “I hate you, now, you say it”.

Istg Batman made him cry like, 3 times because he kept rejecting him

Theres a really gay, sunset scene with them at the end too tho where Batman finally admits he feels the same way. As this sun is setting dramatically they have this entire “I hate you” “I hate you more” “I hate you most” “I hate you forever~” thing.
(Since its a hero/villain dynamic they say I hate you instead of I love you but it’s still said in this stupid, loving tone that murders my soul)

Batman lovingly tapping Joker’s chin and saying something like “I’ll see you around” almost killed me?

Also Robin, before he knew Bruce Wayne and Batman were the same person, thought he had TWO dad’s and was super excited about it which was precious as hell

So you guys just wrapped on season 2, and everyone’s talking about how emotional it was.
It was, and it was also exhausting. It was a long season, we shot nine [episodes] this year, as opposed to eight, and also we got bigger, so we kinda went over, and there was more days; the script themselves became bigger – more scenes, more cinematic stuff… so it was a long season. And it’s weird, I’m normally not that way, like I’m happy to kinda come and go […] but even myself, in the end, like… these guys… I have such love for them, like a big brother has for their younger brothers who are smarter, more talented than they are, like I love them and hate them at the same time. When I wrapped they gave me this card and this picture and I cried – and I never cry!

What I don't like about k/l shippers (tho I'm one and nowadays I'm wavering away from it) is how they treat keith. they always focus on the latter and treats keet like some joke or idk? I know Keith is somewhat problematic but also like shiro he deserves a break.

See, my thing is–I’m pretty sure there must be k/l content that still maintains Keith’s identity. Making a ship work without compromising either character’s agency is something up to each individual author or artist I think, so there’s nothing inherently bad with k/l. That being said, I’ve certainly noticed a trend in k/l fanon where Keith is just a reward to be given to Lance and the whole focus is on him. And I’ve talked about this a bit before, so I’ll just drop some points from that here real quick:

  • It kinda seemed to me like k/l fanon was always sorta more centered around Lance while Keith was just sort of his prize? I think it’s kind of because Lance is more relatable to a lot of people so it’s easier for fans to see themselves in his position
  • After season 2, it seemed a lot of people who liked k/l were mad that Keith got so much screentime and character development, as if it only mattered if either of those things happened in relevance to Lance or k/l and Keith shouldn’t be able to grow and develop on his own
  • And it made me kind of uncomfortable to see s/k scenes that were dismissed as platonic but then people edited Lance in and claimed the situation was suddenly romantic and these edits were praised as being so much better than the actual writing and well developed character interactions in those scenes we had gotten 
  • While k/l definitely isn’t the only ship where fanon does this, I will say season 2 fanon definitely gave me the vibe that Keith was meant to be seen and not heard. 
  • I’ve seen fans hate the BOM episode and even say that watching it was unnecessary, and claim that Keith didn’t deserve to be written beyond the flat, one-dimensional image we had of him.
  • But at the same time fanon loved Keith in the marmora suit because it made for a pretty picture, but Shiro often got replaced by Lance in fanworks even though it didn’t make sense because it was just “better”
  • There’s this idea perpetuated in fanon that Keith is just a pretty boy, someone who’s meant to be seen and not heard
  •  And I feel in a lot of k/l Keith is almost robbed of his agency to just have him act ooc. 
  • In some fanon k/l I feel like much of Keith’s identity is sacrificed in favor of focusing on Lance. Canon k/l interactions in season 3 are much more preferable to me because you see them each develop as their own person apart from just how they react to each other

As for the second part, I’ve always been kind of confused by that. There’s this thing about characters being “problematic” that really unnerves me. Because no character is flawlessly good, you know? And if they supposedly are, then they’re not a well written character. And you don’t have to constantly be morally upstanding and perfect to be a good person. Keith’s raw emotion, his passion and drive and will to throw himself into a war to protect others–it all defines him. And maybe he’s not the infallible hero, but he’s so much more real, and that means something. He struggles with this anger he carries, yes. 

He loses the one person who showed him unconditional love and support, who never gave up on him. So he lashes out in his grief, he loses himself in sudden outbursts, says things he doesn’t mean. “I don’t want to be the leader! That’s just what Shiro wanted!” it’s something he yells without thinking, because he’s just cut open and hurting–and he doesn’t know where to direct that anger, and it kind of coils in on itself and flares out. But then he quickly sobers, looks horrified at his own words and falls silent. It’s not Shiro he’s mad at. And it’s not his team. Not really. But it still feels like Shiro left and some part of Keith feels almost betrayed at that. It’s an admission that sort of slips out–that Shiro talked about giving up before and Keith resents that. Wishes he had never said that. 

But he’s overcome by volatile galran emotion with no outlet–Shiro was always the one who calmed him before, and he’s struggling to navigate the fallout without him:  

  • Joaquim: “He latches onto Shiro at times because Shiro’s sort of the only thing that can really calm him down and keep in check.” (source)
  • Joaquim: “[Keith’s] got this emotional side to him.”
  • Lauren: “It’s kind of exasperated by the fact that Shiro’s gone. Like he’s having a hard time dealing with it, he doesn’t really know how to feel. And I think he just goes back to that inner part of himself where it’s just—he can’t control his emotions. And that comes from the galra side.” (source)

Keith’s grief isn’t graceful or poetic or quiet understanding as he lets go. His loss is a storm–chaos and rage and broken shards. It’s throwing himself into a fight without concern for his team’s safety because he has nothing left to lose. It’s refusing to move on even if the universe needs him. It’s being reckless and relentless. It’s sitting alone in Black lion, “speaking” to Shiro as his confession. All the while ignoring that he has a whole team willing to listen. 

And of course, I’ve been talking post season 3, but–we can take this mindset and apply it to all of Keith’s actions really. Because all his life, he’s been carrying some kind of grief. He has no family. For a long time, he had no friends. He says everyone else gave up on him. Looking at Keith’s character through that lens, I think a lot of his behavior people would label as “problematic” makes perfect sense. Loss has been a very real part of Keith’s life, his whole life–as opposed to the other paladins who are only just now experiencing it: 

  • Joaquim: “I mean, he’s experienced loss–in his life, in his childhood. And Shiro is, I think more so than the other characters is his pillar, is like his big bro. So he felt that loss.“(source)

And I think it really says something that, despite all Keith’s suffered, despite how it must have felt like the universe was always conspiring against him, he still wants to do good. He has no family, grew up with no friends, and has to watch Shiro be constantly wrenched away from him. At that point, he shouldn’t feel like he owes the greater good anything. But “everyone in the universe has a family,” and for all of their sakes, Keith still wants to help. I can’t at all see Keith as “problematic.” I think he’s a victim of circumstance who genuinely cares about others and fiercely protects the people he loves. He’s a multidimensional character who has his faults and strengths, and I adore that. And I agree, he and Shiro do deserve a nice break. Someone let them rest please

Talking about how he [the director James Mangold] tried to avoid getting into a kind of cloy father-daughter cutesy banter between Logan and Laura:

Q: So instead, you mostly avoided dialogue between them [Logan and Laura] altogether?

“Yes, well, it’s also much more cinematic that way. Any way I can make dialogue irrelevant, I struggle to do it. Because my own theory is that in Hollywood movies there’s way too much emphasis on the center column. It’s almost to the point where you can have a meeting, and you have two characters that are in love – and you can have an executive say to you, “How do you know they’re in love? Neither of them ever says ‘I love you’.” You find yourself making this argument where you’re going, “People say 'I love you’ all the time and don’t. Words lie. It’s the way they look at each other that tells you. In fact, you could write dialogue where they say, 'I hate you,’ and the other one says, 'I hate you,’ but the way they’re playing the scene is love.” That’s cinema, to me.”

How did you come up with the other characters aside from Sawamura?

Miyuki is the character who made Sawamura think “I want to play baseball with him, even if that means being separated from my friends”. Miyuki has profound knowledge of baseball as well as the ability to bring out the pitcher’s talent. He’s supposed to be the type of guy Sawamura has never met in life before and thus makes him think “I somehow can’t get him out of my head…”. MY FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 4

We’re finally four episodes down, with only the final three remaining and there’s heavy foreshadowing for both targbowl and targcest. *Spoilers plenty*

 It seems pretty obvious that they’re headed the targcest way for it’s after a conversation about Missandei and Grey worm that Jon and D enter the cave that contains the dragon glass alone, without anyone else. They look way too much into each other’s eyes and all the fire that’s glowing in their faces, like burning passions and really we know where this is heading. But unlike the jonsa hand-grab, when Jon holds D’s wrist, the camera doesn’t pan on it, nor does D look at it. Again, in contrast with Jonsa, Jon initiates the physical touch while in his scenes with Sansa, except for the forehead kiss, Jon almost never initiates physical contact. (like he is scared of touching her??) Yet when he issues a threat to LF and promises to protect her from Ramsey, it’s always “TOUCH”.

D and Jon come out of the cave after almost looking like they are going to walk off together, hand in hand into the sunset. I’d like to point out here, that when D asks Jon if he is going to let his pride get in the way of saving thousands of lives I almost asked myself, but if she really wants to be queen of the seven kingdoms, and considers the north as one of them, shouldn’t she prove herself worthy by saving thousands first and then asking Jon to bend the knee. Isn’t she letting her pride come in the way of ruling over people’s hearts too?

Anyway they come out together and bad news hits D and here came my first favourite moment in the show,

SHE BLAMES TYRION AND QUESTIONS HIS LOYALTY IN FRONT OF EVERYONE.

Of course I felt bad for Tyrion. The hurt is reflected on his face. Here’s a man who planned the destruction of his own birthplace, his own family because he was loyal to his queen and his loyalty gets questioned in front of people who won’t even bend the knee. I get it. She’s angry that his plan did not go down as well. But shouldn’t a leader take responsibility for all the good and bad that happens? Plus, one plan fails and she’s already questioning Tyrion’s loyalty?? I found that a little extreme. Next came another moment that I loved.

JON TELLS D HOW HE FEELS ABOUT BURNING THE SHIT OUT OF EVERYTHING IN FRONT OF EVERYONE

They’re contrasting Dany’s urges and Jon’s urges for the viewer’s benefit, maybe even for Tyrion and Varys’s. At least that’s how I read it.

JON AND THEON

It was a small scene, YES. But it did it’s job. Jon would’ve killed Theon if not for his part in Sansa’s escape. No- you betrayed Robb, you betrayed House stark, nothing. It’s implied obviously but we know that the only thing that stop’s Jon from driving longclaw into Theon’s gut is his role in Sansa’s escape. I wonder if that is the exact reason why Theon brings up Sansa when he first sees Jon. Maybe he knows, that Sansa is his life boat when it comes to Jon.

Jon as usual, lets his instincts get the better of him. Goes straight for Theon’s collar. Again, we get a glimpse of how Jon forgets himself whenever Sansa’s name is mentioned. He side eyes Ser Davos observing this exchange and remembers quite what he’s doing. He lets go of Theon and we get a close up of Ser Davos viewing this whole exchange (with suspicion?? Curiosity??) Before we can ascertain if we imagined this, Davos asks Theon about Euron and that thought is lost.

CHAOS….. IS A LADDER

Bran effectively manages to get LF’s balls up his throat with this single line. I whistled and screamed! I am not kidding.

BRAN REALISES ARYA IS HERE

So the winterfell plot is increasingly becoming my favourite storyline. (Dragonstone is becoming boring with the “we already know who’s the rightful heir and who’s going to bang who” plot. Citadel-“Please show us something other than BARF” plot ) So After that highly emotional scene with Meera where we do get to understand that Bran is the stark who has changed the most and probably will never be the same again, we see him look outside towards the window because he knows who’s coming home dearies. YES, it’s Arya fucking Stark!!

ARYA AND SANSA

What a moment that was? Sansa, beautiful Sansa, knows exactly where to find her little sister.

Should I call you Lady Stark now?

Yes. You Should

I wish Jon comes back soon. (AWWW Sansa, so do we! SO DO WE!!!) He was so happy to see me. I think if he were to see you his heart would stop.

See what Sansa did here people? She realises and recognises the fact that Jon and Arya shared a closer relationship that she ever did with him. She’s telling Arya how much Jon loves her and it’s graceful, unselfish and totally kind of her to do that. Again, we as an audience are probably being told that Jon and Arya shared a closer relationship as siblings than Jonsa. And once again we have Sansa wishing Jon were here. (My Jonsa heart is very happy)

THREE STARKS IN WINTERFELL

Arya wheeling Bran in and Sansa walking by their side entering the gates of Winterfell, a proud Brienne looking at them SIGH, I could watch that scene everyday and yet never tire of it. It was beautiful, emotional and Brienne and Pod’s exchange was just perfect!! PERFECT

DADA DADA DA ….. DADA DADA DA….. DADA DADA DA

So this “I’m Arya Stark of winterfell” music is stuck to my head forever and won’t come off. Hats off to Maise Williams for so beautifully executing that duel scene with Brienne. It was priceless. And in the end when Brienne asks her, “Who taught you that trick?” (or something like that) and she says “NO ONE!” YES, I whistled and I wolfed and I’d do it again. I don’t know why LF looks so happy in the scene because looks like at this point everyone else other than him must know that Arya is going to chop off his B@lls! Some wise guy he is!!

DANY RIDES DROGON INTO BATTLE

Love her or hate her, but it’s impossible to not love this scene. Dany riding Drogon into battle with a look of pure intent to roast and that kickass music playing in the background is so spell-binding, that you can’t help but say “DRACARYS” with her at the exact same time that she says it. It gives you goosebumps. You know very well the minute she flies in that the Lannister army is fucked, so do they, actually. And the show runners have made a brilliant point of showing it by focusing on that Lannister soldier cowering and shivering with fear the exact second before Dany goes into full on destruction mode. She burns everything and everyone. You can feel it in your bones, that in spite of this looking like an  impressive sight, you are not meant to root for it to happen.

Burnt soldiers are shown, their bodies turned to dust, the dothraki massacre the ones who saved themselves from being burnt. It’s not a fair fight. It was never meant to be. We as the audience, reflect the sentiments playing so clearly on Tyrion’s face when he sees the barbecue party. You feel bad for him. You begin to wonder who the real enemy is. And then when Jamie rides with a lance in his hand, you echo Tyrion’s thoughts “NO, you fucking idiot”

But you know what, this was such a call back to the battle of the bastards. Jamie lance in hand riding fearlessly towards Dany and Drogon , Jon Long Claw in hand facing the entire cavalry. We knew it was a suicide mission then and now, yet we were rooting for both of them to survive in spite of the odds. And miraculously they did.

It left me with numerous thoughts, that battle did. Is Dany’s quest for the IT really different from Cersei’s? Is Dany even a good ruler? She burnt tonnes and tonnes of good food which she could have very well used wisely. Is Jamie going to be captured? What’s going to happen to Dickon Tarly, who seemed so reluctant to kill? Anyway, this was a thoroughly entertaining episode and I really hope the next one will not disappoint either.

2x20 Missing Scene (parabatai + malec)

this is just something i kind of wish we could’ve seen, but time constraints. it’s just a little idea i had in my head about a conversation jace & alec would’ve had at the party concerning malec (and NO, alec’s comment about clary being beautiful is not romantic. it’s completely platonic. they’re my brotp okay). 

The music was loud and Alec could practically feel it drumming through his veins as he weaved through the crowd of people toward a familiar blond head at the bar. He heard Luke’s gleeful cheers among all of the voices and couldn’t help but chuckle to himself. 

When he reached the bar, he set his pretty much full bottle of beer next to Jace’s nearly empty one. If there were ever something to describe the difference between the two men, this was definitely in the running. 

“Hey,” he said, nudging Jace’s shoulder lightly with his own. 

“Hey yourself,” Jace replied in a rather monotone voice. 

Alec sighed, leaning his left hip against the bar. “You’re not acting like someone who just defeated Valentine and ended the Mortal War.” 

“Neither are you,” Jace shot back. “You’ve been sulking ever since we got back to the institute and Magnus went home.” 

Alec tried to ignore Jace’s harsh tone, but there was something scratching at the back of his mind, telling him something was most definitely wrong. “Jace, what’s wrong? Our parabatai rune, the brooding, the drinking…. It’s finally over and you can finally be with Clary, but you’re not happy. Something happened at Lake Lyn that you’re not telling me about.” 

Jace closed his eyes and breathed out deeply. “Well, it is a party. That does explain the drinking,” he said when he opened his eyes. 

“Come on, Jace. Seriously.” Alec watched as Jace took a long drink from his beer before setting it back on the bar. 

“Alec, seriously, I’m fine. Just a little exhausted. Can you blame me? And what about you? Man, you’ve been a wreck for days.” Jace gave Alec a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

Alec hated when Jace did this. Turned the attention off of himself and onto Alec; but, Alec decided to let it go for now. Jace would talk when he was ready to talk. “Have not,” he muttered, reaching for his own beer. Jace gave Alec a very intense really? look and Alec rolled his eyes in response. “Okay, fine. So, I’ve been a little miserable. Sue me.” 

“Little?” Jace snorted. “I haven’t seen you this depressed since,” Jace stopped, thinking for minute. “Well, never.” 

“I’ll get past it,” Alec said with a shrug of his shoulders. 

“You forget I can feel everything you’re going through. This isn’t something you just ‘get past.’” Go talk to him.” Jace tilted his head in Magnus’ direction and Alec couldn’t help but let his eyes follow. Magnus was leaning up against the wall, drink in hand, staring at the pool table. Which, incidentally, was where they’d had their first date. 

Alec hung his head. “I don’t think he wants to talk to me.” He could almost hear Jace rolling his eyes. 

“Oh, please. You two have been pining over each other ever since that fight,” Jace said. Alec started to protest, but Jace cut him off. “If you’re going to say something about the way he’s been acting, it’s obviously a defense mechanism. One I’m quite familiar with.” 

“I hate it when you’re right,” Alec mumbled. 

“So, always?” Jace raised his eyebrows at his parabatai. 

Alec shoved Jace’s shoulder and they both started to laugh, really laugh. Something they hadn’t been able to do for a long time. Alec threw his head back, letting the feeling of happiness wash over him since he knew it would soon be gone. He knew he was laughing obnoxiously loud, and so was Jace; however, not a single part of him cared. 

He couldn’t even remember why he was laughing at this point. What Jace had said hadn’t been that funny. He decided to give credit to relief. They were laughing because they were finally free. 

When their laughter died down and tears were wiped away, Alec glanced over at Magnus who was already looking back at him. He watched Magnus quickly look away and turn his attention back to his drink. Alec’s smile fell. 

“Alright,” Jace sighed. “Go. Now. It’s not a request.” 

“But-”

“Alec, Magnus loves you. You love him. Since when are you a quitter? You’re a Lightwood and Lightwoods don’t give up.” Jace reached out to squeeze Alec’s arm. “Magnus makes you the happiest you’ve ever been. I couldn’t bare to see that ripped away from you. You deserve so much. You’ve been nothing but good to people your entire life, please do something for yourself.” 

“I’ve been an ass to Clary, who actually saved Magnus’ life. So, I’ve been other things than good.” 

“Ah, I can get behind that.” Alec heard a voice that was becoming familiar to him. He looked over his shoulder and saw Clary approaching them, a huge smile on her face. Alec thought she looked really beautiful like that. Happy. 

“Watch it, Red,” Alec warned, but there was no malice in his tone. He smiled and reached out to ruffle Clary’s hair, startling himself, Clary, and Jace. 

“What are we talking about?” Clary asked, saving Alec from any embarrassment he may have felt at his actions. “Something juicy?” 

Jace gestured toward Alec with the beer that was in his hand. “Alec won’t talk to Magnus.” 

Clary looked at Alec with nothing but love and sympathy in her eyes. Alec really hated himself for ever being so cruel to her. “You need to talk to him. It will claw at you for the rest of your life if you don’t. And now is as good a time as any. At least alcohol has been consumed.” 

“Who knew you had a brain?” Alec laughed and Clary put a hand to her chest in mock offense. 

“Okay, I literally told you the same thing,” Jace interjected, a look of disbelief on his face at the scene unfolding before him. 

Alec just shrugged and grabbed his beer, moving out of the way so that Clary could stand next to Jace. “Wish me luck,” he said before beginning to walk toward Magnus, his heart in his throat.

Here goes nothing. 

Kalagang #09

1x11 Just Turn The Wheel And The Future Changes

We are here. WE ARE FINALLY HERE. I know we still have a long way to go, but…this is the episode in which Kalagang has their first kiss! However, it’s not just about the kiss. It’s the depth of emotions both Kala and Wolfgang show in this episode that really made their relationship beautiful. Heartbreaking, but beautiful.

Rajan: I want you to marry me, not to be for or against anyone else, because I love you, I trust you…and I can imagine no better life than growing old with you. All I need to know is…after everything that has happened, do you still want to marry me?

To be honest, I love and hate that Rajan is actually a nice guy. If he were just a typical asshole who’s always forcing Kala to marry him, it’d have been too obvious, you know. Not to mention she would never marry that kind of guy. But at the same time, because he truly loves and cares about Kala, it’s frustrating to see Kala having a hard time to simply say ‘no’ to him.

I wish I had a GIF for this scene, but anyhow, when Rajan asks her if she still wants to marry him, Kala’s eyes literally get bigger as if she had this thought – more likely a person crossing her mind. Wolfgang.

Kala is now facing a crossroad – whether she will follow her head, or follow her heart. For all her life, Kala has depended on her faith to guide her life. This time, however, the choice is in her hands. It’s Kala herself who must make a decision.

Wolfgang: You will take good care of him, you understand? If anyone comes looking for a man matching his description, you say nothing, you do nothing, you call me.

Meanwhile, Wolfgang moves Felix to different hospital where he can be safe. Wolfgang is about to walk into his uncle’s mansion alone which is completely suicidal. But he is more concerned about Felix than himself. Wolfgang protects those he loves with his own life…and yet he still thinks he doesn’t deserve love from anyone.

When Wolfgang stops his car near by the front gate of Sergei’s mansion and opens his eyes, he already knows that he might die today. Wolfgang’s life has been always surrounded by fights, blood, and deaths. He is used to death – as I mentioned in first episode. But no matter how much he hates his life, despises himself, or feels numb about violence, he is still human. And every human, even the bravest ones, fears death.

Wolfgang is afraid, and that leads him to think of one person. Kala.

Kala: This is a bad place. You should not be here.

In 1x05 during Kala’s wedding, Wolfgang was her inner voice. This time, it’s switched. Kala is now Wolfgang’s inner voice. He knows he should not be here. She feels Wolfgang’s fear, so vividly, more than ever. You can see it from her eyes.

Kala: You don’t have to do this. You could just…turn around. It is so simple a thing, just…just turn the wheel, and the future changes.

Every word she says is killing him. Not just because part of him thinks the same, but because it is Kala who is telling him that. Wolfgang can also feel Kala’s fear – of losing him – and it’s making him harder to go to the mansion. She is making him weak and vulnerable.

This may be another reason why Wolfgang has suppressed his emotions – because feelings make him weak. He cannot be weak in order to survive in his world of chaos and darkness.

So Wolfgang closes his eyes tightly, trying to control his feelings. He tries his best to not change his mind. He doesn’t want to be swayed by Kala, and yet, he can’t get her out of his mind – because he doesn’t want her to leave. As much as he doesn’t want this to be their last time, Wolfgang fears it might be the last time he’ll ever see Kala again.

Wolfgang: You stopped your wedding, but it’s still going to happen. [You don’t know that] Some things in our lives are inevitable.

Wolfgang knows that Kala is very logic-driven person. He understands she will always choose to do the right thing, even if that may cost her own happiness. He believes Kala marrying Rajan is as inevitable as himself living a life as a monster.

Kala, after she hears from Wolfgang, seems a bit angry. She is mad at herself for she knows Wolfgang is right – that she’ll eventually choose to do the right thing, like always. And they both know ‘the right thing’ may not be ‘choosing Wolfgang’. But she’s also mad at Wolfgang because deep inside there’s a part of her that wants him to say ‘I need you’, ‘I want you’, or ‘I love you’. Kala can’t no longer ignore the desire in her heart. A fire that makes her feel alive. The attraction similar to force of gravity. Emotion that has consumed her.

Kala: Don’t do this. They will kill you. [There are worse things than dying] Wolfgang, please!

Yes, Kala is a logical person. Even when she decided to marry Rajan, her reasons were based on logic. To Kala, logic has always come first. But not when she’s with Wolfgang. Possibly for the first time, Kala lets her emotions drive her. Feelings take control of her body and mind.

All this time, when she was with Wolfgang, Kala has tried to control herself – her desire. Now, she calls his name for the first time in desperation…clutches his hand that reached for the gun, and begging him to not go there. Emotion overwhelms logic. Kala is trying to stop him not because what he’s trying to do is immoral and wrong; but only because she cares about him. Because she’s not ready to lose him.

Wolfgang: There are things I will never be able to understand about your world, just as there are things you will never understand about mine.

Wolfgang tries to push Kala away. He suppresses feelings, once again, pretending he doesn’t feel anything – like he doesn’t care. But no matter how he tries Wolfgang can’t hide his feelings from Kala, just as she can’t hide hers from him.

Kala: I understand how I feel about you. And somehow, I know that you feel the same way about me.

There may be more important matters which Kala needs to make a choice. But right now, at this very moment, she chooses to be true to her heart. When we’re true to our hearts and expresses them, we may get hurt, become vulnerable, helpless, and even selfish sometimes – but that’s what makes us human. That’s what makes us beautiful in that raw moment.

At that moment, when Kala finally opens up and tells Wolfgang how she feels about him…she was more beautiful than ever.

Wolfgang: This is why I’m here…After what I did…

Kala’s confession lets his guard down. Wolfgang’s facial expression softens. He carefully reaches for her face and gently touches it. He seems a bit scared when he touches Kala – showing he truly cares about her, but at the same time he doesn’t think he deserves her…because she’s too good for him.

Wolfgang: As long as that man is alive…no one I care about will ever be safe.

Both determination and hesitation are in Wolfgang’s eyes. He must do this in order to protect those he cares, but deep down he is scared of the thought that he won’t be able to see, touch, and feel Kala anymore.

Also, see how the word choice for his feelings towards Kala has changed again. In the beginning it was ‘craving’, then it changed to ‘want’, and now he refers Kala as someone he ‘cares’ – ‘feel concern or interest; attach importance to somethingor ‘feel affection or liking’. Wolfgang now understands that what he feels for Kala is more than just a desire.

Kala knows she can’t stop Wolfgang, even though she also feels his hesitation as well as his affection towards her. Kala lets him touch her this time. (she kinda rejected last time at the cafe)

While I was searching for GIF of their first kiss, I read this post describing – that hesitation and enthusiasm were seen in both characters as they get closer to each other, before the kiss.

I think that’s a perfect analysis for this moment…although I can’t find the original post that has that description. I’ll keep looking up.

I just like how Kala strokes Wolfgang’s jaw, and he is slightly touching her hair.

What’s so sad about this kiss is that it’s Wolfgang who pulls away first and Kala seems like her heart literally dropped as soon as he did that. She didn’t want to stop. What’s more heartbreaking is – so did Wolfgang. We can see pain on his face right after he pulls away. But Wolfgang had to, because he knew – if he hadn’t stopped that kiss, he would’ve turn the wheel.

Right after Kala disappears (more like he lets her out of his mind), Wolfgang is back to being no-emotion-Wolfie. This just highlights, again, how much Kala’s presence affects him.

Kala cries for him. She cries because of him…feeling helpless.

Sun: Crying won’t help him. I can feel what you’re feeling. This is what life is. Fear, rage, desire…love. To stop feeling emotions, to stop wanting to feel them…is to feel death. [What do you suggest I do?] I take everything I am feeling…everything that matters to me…I push all of it…into my fist…and I fight for it.

Then, Sun appears. She gives her the guidance. She also teaches Kala a lesson – that crying won’t help; if she wants to protect the ones she cares, Kala must fight for them. And we will see Kala fighting for her loved ones in next episode. The season finale.

hi, so i've been following overinvested and your recap posts on american gods, and generally really appreciate and like your opinions. howev, i /think/ the rising tension in ep6 with vulcan is probably really different for white pp bc watching it as a black american: the ep didn't work for me bc it was fight-or-flight from when they drove up, no rising tension whatsoever. basically, would you elucidate on your analysis of that part of the ep? I'd like to hear what you think, as a brit

People’s opinions are influenced by their own experiences, and I think American Gods inspires VERY different opinions because it’s an ~edgy show, it has a black protagonist and a diverse cast, and it deals with themes of race and immigration in America. (It’s also mostly written by white men, lol.)

In this ep, I found Shadow’s discomfort and Vulcan’s role to be the most effective/memorable aspects, along with the Jesus intro. The trifecta of Christianity, racism, and guns was a pretty in-your-face depiction of toxic American conservatism. Here’s what I wrote in my recap:

After several episodes of Shadow being freaked out by supernatural weirdness, this feels like a more meaningful threat than, say, getting stabbed by a magic tree.

He’s a black man in a small town in the South, populated by heavily-armed white people with an obvious distaste for outsiders. When Vulcan invites Shadow and Wednesday back to his house, he points out the noose in his garden—an intentionally disturbing gesture toward Shadow, who wants to get out of there as soon as possible.

There’s a realistically unsettling dynamic to their interactions, with Vulcan being subtly aggressive toward Shadow while excluding him from the conversation. Corbin Bernsen is perfectly cast as a bully who enjoys making people uncomfortable, hinting that Vulcan holds all the power in the room. Mr. Wednesday ignores Shadow’s discomfort (and the warning signs) out of a desire to rekindle his friendship with Vulcan.

Re: your question about my view as a white/british person, it’s often hard to gauge one’s own influences from an inside POV, if that makes sense? Hence why people publish so many racist & sexist reviews without realizing it! (I’ve probably done this at some point, although hopefully I’m not fucking up in this actual reply.) With American Gods, Shadow may inspire different responses depending on the viewer’s race/cultural background, not necessarily in a negative sense, but because white viewers might not understand the rarity & impact of seeing a black/biracial protagonist in a fantasy show. Kind of like how men watch Wonder Woman and enjoy it, whereas women watch Wonder Woman and burst into tears of relief. And AG’s creators experience similar biases/influences from the other end of the process. They want to make a show that directly tackles racism, but they may not have realized how the scenes in Vulcan’s town could obliterate the rest of the drama in that episode, because some viewers would find it distractingly tense from Shadow’s perspective.

My reaction to the show will inevitably be different from someone who experiences racism in America, but I also agree with your comment that this episode lacked a sense of rising tension. AG has a kind of meandering, disjointed structure with multiple storylines in each ep. That contributes to people having wildly different reactions to the show, because it’s easier to focus on individual characters and scenes. 

This is now slightly off-topic, but I think that phenomenon played out in an interesting way with Laura. I loved her rewritten role in the show, and found it refreshing to see her be so unpleasant and miserable compared to the “beautiful dead wife” cliche. She isn’t likeable, but she makes sense from an emotional perspective. At the same time, some viewers just hated her and thought she was a bitch for ruining Shadow’s life. And then there’s this more nuanced analysis from a thread with film critic Rebecca Theodore:

My reply got kind of outta hand, but basically: I think American Gods is an interesting but flawed show, and because it tells a wide range of stories, it invites a wide range of perspectives and critiques, including reactions that the showrunners may not have predicted or intended. (Also it would help if they hired a more diverse creative team for season 2, because almost every ep is written and directed by white men.)

i love every single gif set, fan art and edit of the black sails reunion scene. i don’t care that it is the same 30 seconds being gifed several thousand times over. i dont care that i’ve seen every version a dozen times. because whenever i see flint’s happy about to cry face when he’s finally reunited with thomas the world is a little brighter for a moment

every time i think of this quote “i have been the subject of enough ridicule and innuendo…”, my heart breaks. because miranda was already treated awfully by london’s society. i mean, we saw the way alfred hamilton treated her and she just took it. and she was ready to take things upon herself again to divert attention from thomas and james. she loved them so much and i can’t deal.

and then she goes to nassau and it’s even worse:

people call her a witch. she’s most likely completely isolated because of it and also being stalked by a creeper of a pastor.

we talk about what flint went through so many times, but we don’t mention how miranda went through the exact same thing often enough. she lost her husband, the man she loved. she lost her home. she was irreparably heartbroken because of it. and unlike flint she wasn’t allowed to go on and let all that rage and misery upon others. she had to remain on the interior being hated by everyone while flint went about pirating. 

i think about the scene above and the way it’s framed and shot and my heart breaks into a million pieces again because she’s so alone. what must her days be like when flint’s away?

and looking back at what we saw of miranda in the flashbacks and what we heard from abigail, "i remember watching her talk with my mother from across the room and how she’d make my mother laugh”, i think miranda was someone who enjoyed socializing. she was clearly outgoing, she enjoyed being with people. and she had to spend ten years all alone. 

and by s1 she’s finally reaching her breaking point:

and “what does it matter now? […] what does it matter what happened then if we have no life now? because there is no life here. there is no joy here. there is no love here.”

she suffered so much, she endured so much. but unlike flint she didn’t allow herself to succumb to it the way he did. because make no mistake, she was as angry as he was. and a part of her wanted revenge as much as he did.

this:

is to me miranda admitting she told flint about the maria aleyne because a part of her wanted flint to kill alfred hamilton. she knew what would happen and she told him anyway because she wanted it to happen.

miranda’s anger is one of my favourite things about her. because it’s so clear to me that it has been there since the night thomas was taken:

she didn’t give into it and i love her for it, but it was always lurking. and it rises to the surface again just before she goes on a vacation dies: “what do i want? i want to see this whole goddamn city, this city that you purchased with our misery, burn. i want to see you hanged on the very gallows you’ve used to hang men for crimes far slighter than this. i want to see that noose around your neck and i want to pull the fucking lever with my own two hands!

some people have expressed disappointment in not being able to see miranda going off completely after the “ashe was a traitor” reveal. and i agree entirely. i would have loved to see a miranda who does not care for england anymore, who is as done as flint, as unforgiving. that would have been spectacular and i’ll forever mourn the fact that we didn’t get it.

i love miranda barlow/hamilton a lot and i miss her every day.

Ok folks, here’s the thing: now that I finished ME:A I can freely sail the tags on Tumbr and there’s one tag that needs serious improvements: Sloane Kelly.   She’s one of my favourite characters in this new story-line so here’s a long post about her that probably nobody asked for.

 As I was playing I literally went from ‘ugh, this wacko, ruthless character’ that I couldn’t be bothered with to a character so complex and real it completely blew my mind. And I am both angry and so pleased with the way the game treats her on one side, and frustrated with the crap the fandom throws at her. K, so buckle up for some long character analysis. Spoilers ahead:
