I’m In Love With My Best Friend – Cody Christian Imagine

Requested by Anon: Could you write an imagine where you told your sister that you have a boyfriend so she’d stop trying to set you up with guys, but now she’s coming to visit for surprise and you need a fake boyfriend during your sister’s visit so you ask Cody (your best friend) to pretendbe your boyfriend and everything seems goes right until the act stop being act?

Word Count: 3,141

Warnings: None other than Cody saying a curse word, ha. Fluff?

Author’s Note: Y/S/N = Your Sister’s Name. I did this because in previous imagines where I’ve named a sibling or best friend, some of y’all have mentioned it was weird to read your own name. So I decided to let y’all use your actual sister’s name or come up with the name yourselves if you don’t have a sister.

Also, I sneaked in a line from Gilmore Girls. I wonder if anyone can point it out.

“Come on. Come on. Come on.” Y/N whispered repeatedly as the phone rang. She paced back and forth in her bedroom, hoping her best friend would answer. “Pick up the damn ph-”

The sound of her best friend’s groggy and sleepy voice interrupted her rambling. “Hello?”

“It’s about time! Why aren’t you answering your phone? I only called you like a hundred times! I could have been dying and-“

Cody noticed the nervous rush in her voice and rubbed this tired eyes. He cleared his throat before he interrupted her. "Okay, first of all I was filming all night and I just got home a couple of hours ago. Second of all, you’re obviously not dying so this better be good, because as much as I love ya, you know I get cranky when I don’t get enough sleep. Lastly, breathe. Just breathe,” he inhaled and exhaled, which Y/N mimicked, making her feel a little better.

“Now tell me what’s wrong?” He asked groggily yet genuinely concerned at the same time.

“I lied to my sister,” she started as she finally sat on the edge of her bed.

“About…?” He trailed.

“That I had a boyfriend. I only did it so she would stop setting me up with all these guys she knew. I thought my plan would work,” she continued.

Cody hummed, following along with her story with his eyes closed. “I remember you told me that. So, what’s the problem?"

"The idiot decided to surprise me by coming into town without any warning! Now she’s on her way here, because not only does she miss me, but also because she wants to meet my boyfriend of two months…” she trailed for a second, silently praying Cody would agree to the favor she was about to ask him. “So, I was hoping if you could come over and play the part.”

Cody’s eyes flew wide open. He heard what she said but he still had a hard time believing it. “Come again?” He asked, needing confirmation.

“I need you to be my fake boyfriend for my sister,” she explained as she fiddled with the hem of her shirt nervously. “I promise you, I’ll get you a gift card for Chipotle that will last you for at least three months,” she bargained knowing Chipotle was Cody’s weakness.

Cody quickly sat up, “I’m getting in the shower right now and I’ll meet you at your place.”

Y/N smiled widely. “Seriously, you are the best. Thank you so much.”

“Hey, you know I’d do anything for you,” Cody smiled back even though she couldn’t see him. “What time will your sister get there?“

"She said she was about 2 hours away,” she answered.

“Alright, I’ll get there before she does,” he said as he walked into his bathroom. “Hey, Y/N?”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t forget the gift card,” Cody smiled as Y/N laughed.

His shirt (Logan X reader)

Prompt: Logan’s reaction when he sees you wearing one of his big sweatshirts

The mornings light shines bright, slipping past the closed curtains adorning your window. It fell upon you, disturbing your deep sleep. Groaning you tried to turn over and continue sleeping but the Suns rays seemed to be everywhere, hitting your face no matter where you tossed or turned. Sighing in defeat, you sat up and stretched. A yawn escaping your throat as some bones popped while you stretched, blinking the sleep from your eyes, you surveyed the room. Your clothes were lazily thrown into the floor, the sheets next to you empty. It wasn’t uncommon for Logan to get up earlier then you, it happened quite often really and you learned to accept it. Though you preferred to wake up next to him, all snug and warm, enjoying the morning together. Unfortunately for you, you weren’t a morning person and your boyfriend was. Glancing at the clock you checked the time, ten in the afternoon it read, briefly you wondered where Logan was and what he was doing. You never knew with that man, he could cause trouble with anyone or anything and it left you worried constantly. You trusted him but sometimes his temper would get out of hand, it wasn’t like there was a thing you could do about it now. Getting out of bed, you fixed the messy sheets. Straightening them, pulling the covers back on, and placing the pillows into their spot.

Deciding that it was good enough, your stomach growled, voicing its own hunger. You were in the safety of your own home, so walking out of the room not-fully-clothed wouldn’t be so bad but what if a guest came over? It wasn’t exactly ideal for you to greet them at the door in your bra and panties. Besides, your outfits were either too tight or fancy or just in the laundry since you didn’t feel energized enough to do it. Sighing, you figured you’d barrow Logan’s shirt. He wasn’t like he’d mind, it was just a shirt after all and his were always comfy and smelled just like him. It held a warmth to it that almost mimicked Logan’s, nodding you rummaged in his closest before snatching up a shirt and throwing it on. It was indeed bigger then your petite frame, the hem ending on your lower thighs. It covered everything you wanted it to, fit just right. Grinning you sniffed, the smell of pines and cologne meeting your nose, the cotton soaking in the warmth of the sun almost feeling like he was right beside you, holding you close. Your grin widened, imagining and savoring the moment before your tummy reminded you of the task at hand.

Marching into the kitchen, you searched the fridge for something to eat. A simple sandwich will do for now, you shrugged and took out some turkey and bread. Absentmindedly, you looked out your window, the forest meeting your eyes. It’s breathtaking green leaves twinkling from the morning dew and sunshine, birds chirping and singing their beautiful songs to their little hearts content, the grass a vibrant blend of different hues of green and the tree branches providing shadows and shelter to all the smaller animals. Transfixed by the scene, you took a closer look. A deer nibbled by a bush, munching on some berries as a smaller deer timidly wandered out into the open. From the looks of it, it was a baby, it’s eyes round with curiosity and interest as it sniffed the grass. A much bigger buck with antlers so big and wide you were sure he wouldn’t be able to fit past a doorframe, trotted next to the baby deer. Must be a proud father, you thought happily rather calmed at the sight. The family was just enjoying itself out there, nature could be so beautiful sometimes and you were left envious.

The opening and closing of a door brought you back to your own reality, finishing up the last bits of your food, you glanced over your shoulder. Logan entered and his brown eyes scanned your frame, a smirk tugging at his lips. His eyes slowly trailed from your thighs and up to your back, moving to your arms, focusing on the low hang of the tee and how it showed off your collarbones, then up to your face. Your hair was thrown in a messy bun previously, leaning against the kitchen counter you raised a brow.

“What? Do I have something on my face?” You asked unsure as to why he was staring. He shook his head chuckling, moving from the end of the room to right in front of you. Arms wrapping around your waist as he pulled you closer to him, you cuddled close to him, your own arms snaking around his neck as he held you.

“No, you just look really good in my shirt.” His hands moved up and down your sides, eyes taking another peak at your ‘outfit’. Giggling you playfully pushed his shoulder, in return he smiled brightly. “What? I’m serious, you should wear my shirts more often.”

“Well, if you say so.~” You’d be sure to remember his words, this wouldn’t be the last time he’d find you in his shirt, even if he didn’t like it you would’ve still done it. “Just remember, you suggested it!” You announced, pressing a kiss to his cheek before laughter forced your lips away. Today seemed to be a good one.

Excerpt:  And maybe it’s the time, or the stress of the conversation, or the barely perceptible hum of pre-storm tension that’s been ever-present whenever the two of you are in the same room since that day in the diner, but suddenly, something is making you very aware of the older man in a way that you weren’t before. Epic Movie (Re)Watch #173 - X-Men: Days of Future Past

Spoilers Below

Have I seen it before: Yes

Did I like it then: Yes.

Do I remember it: Yes.

Did I see it in theaters: Yes.

Was it a movie I saw since August 22nd, 2009: Yes. #294

Format: Blu-ray

1) The film marks Bryan Singer’s return to the franchise he helped to start, making it his first X-Men film since X2. He was a producer on X-Men: First Class and originally Matthew Vaughn was slated to direct this film. But Vaughn dropped out to speak with Lucasfilm about Star Wars: Episode VII before focusing his efforts on Kingsman: The Secret Service allowing Singer to step back into the director’s chair.

2) Magneto, Xavier, every mutant in the X-Men films (especially the original trilogy) had fears about war. The X-Men tried to avoid it while Magneto was preparing to win it. Well now everyone’s worst fears have come to past in a dark and desolate future were Magneto was right and the X-Men are forced to band together.

3) John Ottman’s theme from X2 plays in the opening credits, making this film feel like a triumphant return to form from the get go. It fills the audience with an energy, hope, and even nostalgia that helps make the film as great as it is. While I absolutely adore Henry Jackman’s score for First Class, Ottman’s theme has now become the (unofficial?) theme for the franchise in a lot of ways.

4) We’re off to a strong start with the movie’s opening action sequence.

This film features - by far - the best action sequences in the entire franchise. It embraces the powers of its mutant characters in a way no film has before it. This leads to incredible visuals and extended action scenes which never lose the audiences interest. It does what some films (The Last Stand) have failed to do before: show off the X-Men’s powers in incredible and memorable ways. The opening action sequence alone feels like something out of a comic book or (dare I say?) the 90s animated series. Characters like Iceman and Colossus have finally reached the full potential of their mutant powers, making good on a promise any X-Men film makes. New characters too have small roles but are wildly memorable. Blink, Sunspot, Warpath, and Bishop come across as unique with not a lot of lines and not a lot of screen time. But they have an impact because of the visuals of their powers/fighting styles.

From a storytelling standpoint the opening scene also works to set the stakes of the film. We understand immediately how much of a threat these sentinels are, they are able to massacre an entire squad of mutants with relative ease. If it weren’t for Kitty’s ability to send people back in time this war would be over very quickly. The dark tone and sense of dread this future has is established immediately through the action sequence, making the rest of the film carry that weight in a conflict driven/interesting way.

5) I am so impressed and so grateful that this film was able to get all the original cast back they wanted. Kelsey Grammer couldn’t participate because of scheduling conflicts with Transformers: Age of Extinction (ew), but most of these actors have gained a higher price tag since X-Men: The Last Stand. Ellen Page in particular is a critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated actress who comes back for what is essentially a supporting role, but she (like the rest of the returning cast) commits to it all the same. It provides a nice amount of fan service which also feeds into the story and I love it.

6) It is so weird for me to hear Patrick Stewart Xavier talk about this.

Professor X: “I knew [Mystique] as Raven…she was like a sister to me.”

He never talked about her like that in the original trilogy, it first came up in the First Class prequel. But it adds something to Professor X’s character: he walls parts of himself and his past off for the sake of the future.

Note: In this post Patrick Stewart will be referred to as Professor X and James McAvoy will be referred to as Charles.

7) The decision to send Logan back instead of Kitty might upset Kitty Pryde fans and comic book purists (as Kitty was the one to go back in the original storyline), but I think it makes the most amount of sense. The original story was published in the 80s or 90s and Kitty came back from 2013 into her younger body. Movie Kitty has no younger body in 1973 but Logan does. So that’s why it makes sense from an in world decision, but also from a filmmaking standpoint it makes sense too. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is the face of the X-Men films primarily, with only one film up to this point not having him in a prominent role. So it makes sense to put stock in his character as you have in the past. My biggest regret though is that I do LOVE Kitty Pryde and so it would’ve been nice to see her do more, but she still serves a more important role in this film than she does in The Last Stand.

8) I absolutely love this.

Professor X: “Logan, you’re going to have to do for me what I once did for you.”

I am a sucker for character development and having watched now seven X-Men films in a row seeing Wolverine in this role is incredible to me. This was the guy who originally wanted to ditch the X-Men, who was a loner and who primarily looked out for Rogue. Even with that he was mostly out for himself? Now. He’s invested. He’s older, a bit wiser (if not perfect), and gets to repay the kindness Professor X showed him by helping Charles along his way. It puts him in a new role, a role he’s not all too comfortable with, but it is just so damn interesting and I love everything about it.

9) The extended prologue in 2023 as well as the fact that this film will cut back to that time occasionally helps make this film a worthy ending to the cast and characters first introduced in X-Men. It could’ve ended that series entirely, a farewell tour for all the actors we came to love in their respective parts. Despite this, at its core this film - more than anything else - is a sequel/continuation of the story set in place by X-Men: First Class. Doing both of these things is no easy feat but the film is able to pul it off beautifully.

10) Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask.

Dinklage is one of the finest American actors around right now, notable for his work in “Game of Thrones”. And his performance as the villainous Trask gives us the best X-Men villain since William Stryker in X2. While I do LOVE Sebastian Shaw in First Class, there is something fundamentally more unsettling in Dinklage’s performance. He is chilling, focused, intimidating. You know this is not a guy you want to mess with. And Dinklage himself has a unique look on the character. This according to IMDb.

According to Peter Dinklage, Bryan Singer picked him to play Bolivar Trask because of his height, stating, “With my dwarfism, I’m a bit of a mutant. I can’t move metal or anything, but I thought of it as self-loathing. Deep down, Trask is quite sensitive about that aspect of himself.”

11) Mystique in Saigon.

The scene of Mystique saving a group of mutants in Saigon from being shipped off to Trask (including Lucas Till’s return as Havok) works really well for a number of reasons. First of all: it helps not only re-introduce her character but also her motivations for this film. She has gone through a lot between First Class and now so this scene helps to establish just exactly this NEW Mystique is. She’s one with a lot of pain, working towards avenging the loss of her friends. Mystique is also much more of a fighter in this film than in First Class, with her choreography and skills leaning much closer to what we would expect from Rebecca Romijn. She has been pushed up to the point of no return but hasn’t crossed that line yet and that’s what this film is about. If she’s going to become the Mystique she does in the original timeline or if this is her second chance. The writing for her character is conflict filled and amazing, I absolutely love it.

12) Logan really needs to give people a spoiler warning about their futures.

Logan [before punching out Beast]: “You and I are going to be good friends.”

13) And because he’s Wolverine, it doesn’t take long for Logan to cause shit.

(GIFs originally posted by @ofsagitta)

14) James McAvoy’s return as Charles Xavier.

So First Class was really about Erik becoming Magneto, this is about Charles becoming Professor X. We have never seen the character so low, he has never been so low. He is a broken man with the events of First Class changing him more than he - or the audience - even expected. He tried soldiering on but the war in Vietnam led to his school being shut down. Charles is wallowing in pain, in self pity, he is exactly what Professor X said he was: as lost as Logan used to be. Hell, he’s a drug addict! The serum to give him his legs is a not-so-subtle parallel for drug use. There is a great conflict there, a great pain, and it leads to an incredible story.

15) This is kind of a perfect representation of how continuity works in the X-Men films. The movie tries to remember something from the past, tries to have continuity track, only to get something about it wrong and make everything more confusing.

In fairness the original line in the First Class script WAS, “Fuck off!” but First Class was released three years before Days of Future Past meaning they knew that wasn’t the actual line for a while. Granted I’m probably just nitpicking.

16) In this film we learn that Emma Frost, Zoe-Kravitz-Angel (as opposed to the Angel from The Last Stand and Apocalypse), Azazel & Banshee are all dead by the hands of Bolivar Trask. Which is sickening and heartbreaking but left a unique opportunity which Apocalypse never took with the characters. I’ll talk about it briefly now but go in depth during my Apocalypse post but in the comics Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen are resurrected dead characters. Using this to bring back the four mutants I just listed would have been a smart move I think.

17) Let’s share what IMDb has to say about the rights to Quicksilver:

The addition of Evan Peters as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver to the cast sparked wide discussion over the direction of the character who is also slated to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Quicksilver had been discussed previously as a potential character in both X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and The Avengers (2012), but legal complexities over the license to the character resulted in his omission from both films. However, in May 2013 both Marvel and Fox Studios announced a resolution to the previous legal issues, and that Quicksilver would appear in this film as well as an Avengers sequel, though under certain parameters: no reference to Quicksilver’s membership in the Avengers can be made in an “X-Men” film, and no allusion to his relations to the X-Men or Magneto (the character’s father) can be made in an “Avengers” film; the rights agreement between Fox and Marvel even goes so far as to stipulate the character cannot be referred to as a “mutant” in any Marvel film. Additionally, the day after the announcement of Peters’s casting, Marvel and Fox entered into a legal standoff over provisions of the rights agreement for the character, including the issue of whether Peters would be allowed to portray Quicksilver in any other film outside the “X-Men” franchise, possibly necessitating a second actor to play Quicksilver in any Marvel film, resulting in two different versions of the same character appearing in two competing film series. Ultimately, Fox and Marvel decided to cast different actors in the part for the “X-Men” and “Avengers” films, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson taking on the role in the latter sequel, thus preventing any connection between the two franchises and keeping the X-Men confined to a separate universe from those of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

18) Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

No, I said EVAN PETERS as Quicksilver!

That’s better. Anyways: Evan Peters’ performance as the speedster is the definite scene stealer in the film. His screen time doesn’t amount to much - with a more significant role in 2016′s X-Men Apocalypse - but every time he’s on screen you are drawn to him. The character is wonderfully fun, with his smart assery amusing to us as the audience without being totally annoying. There’s a unique and vibrant energy that Peters brings to the character which is 100% captivating. By far one of the best new elements of this film.

19) Peter Parker could learn something from this.

Quicksilver [to Erik]: “I’m holding your neck so you don’t get whiplash.”

Erik: “What?”

Quicksilver: “Whiiiiiiplasssssshhhh!”

20) Okay, so Logan knocks out a bunch of Pentagon guards with a frying pan. Is it wrong that this is the only thing I could think of?

21) Oh boy….

(Screenshot taken from a GIF set originally posted by @barrel–rider)

22) It is unique and conflict filled to see Charles filled with such intense hate/loathing towards Erik when Professor X always has hope for his, “old friend,” Magneto.

Charles [upon first meeting Erik]: “I’m never getting inside that head again.”

Note: In this recap Michael Fassbender’s character shall be referred to as Erik while Ian McKellen’s shall be referred to as Magneto.

23) THE QUICKSILVER SCENE!!!!!

This is without a doubt the best scene in the entire film and it is absolutely brilliant across the board. Like the earlier fight scenes it takes the concept of mutant powers and is able to translate it into absolutely phenomenal visuals. From a technical standpoint the scene is a masterpiece, as the seams are practically invisible. It’s hard to make, but you don’t want the audience to know that. Which makes it all the more impressive that it seems so relaxed. The scene pulls your interest and never lets go, using music and point of view in absolutely stellar ways. How boring would this scene have been if it were from Erik’s point of view? Or Charles’? The most interesting way to do this moment is through Quicksilver and that’s what we get. It is intelligent, organic, full of small surprises, and despite its short length is strong as hell. If they were to teach this class in film schools some day, I would not be surprised.

Although it does raise the question: why don’t they just bring Quicksilver to Paris? It seems like he’d be really helpful.

24)

Erik [looking at Wolverine’s bone claws]: “Imagine if they were metal.”

25) Erik and Charles having it outis very key to the film. Right now the audience sees Erik as the one who messed up. Taking away Charles’ legs, getting arrested for killing the president, etc. But Charles needs to know he’s made some pretty crucial mistakes.

Charles [to Erik]: “You abandoned me!”

Erik [after bringing up the dead mutants]: “We were supposed to protect them!…You abandoned us all!”

26) A part of me gets why Raven seduces the Vietnamese general in order to take his place at the pace conference. Another part of me lives in a post Wonder Woman world and A) never sees male characters doing this and B) thinks there was probably a different way she could’ve gotten into the peace conference. And this isn’t a comment on a woman using her sexuality in a way she is comfortable with, this is a comment on men trying to shoehorn scenes were a woman’s defining feature is her sexuality.

27) I love the added conspiracy theory that JFK was a mutant. I remember reading a promotional material at the time that Bobby Kennedy was a mutant too and that’s why he was assassinated. I’m a nut for conspiracy theories though.

28) Okay, I just need to take a minute to geek out about HOW HAPPY RAVEN IS TO SEE CHARLES!!!!

29) And this is the turning point of the film.

  • Wolverine gets rocky and weak when he sees Stryker, injuring Kitty in 2023
  • Erik tries to kill Mystique
  • The world can’t deny the existence of mutants anymore and reacts with fear
  • Charles & Erik are now against each other again
  • Trask gets Raven’s blood

The tone of that is not lost. There’s a sense of darkness and dread which falls upon the film as it moves forward. It has an impact on the audience and helps to raise the stakes.

30) Okay, this is funny as hell to me. In an effort to calm Logan down:

(GIFs originally posted by @marvelheroesdaily)

31) Hey look, a Bryan Singer cameo!

So now in the X-Men universe, Bryan Singer is someone who first introduces mutants to the larger world through his movies. How meta.

32)

Erik [after Mystique pulls him into a phone booth and holds a knife to his throat]: “It’s been a long time since we were this close.”

(GIF originally posted by @rocktheholygrail)

I don’t know why, but I don’t like the idea of an Erik/Mystique relationship. Maybe it’s just a hold over from how I felt about their seduction scene in First Class.

33) And this right here is Mystique’s motivation, clearer than before.

Mystique: “I’ve seen too many friends die, Erik. I don’t want a war. I only want the man who murdered them.”

Mystique is no longer an idealist. She does not subscribe to Charles’ or Erik’s way of thinking. She is on her own now, which she said in the very beginning of the film. It makes her character and the conflict she has all the more interesting.

34) The first step in Charles accepting who he is comes from accepting his powers. He tries Cerebro, but it’s too much at first. All he has is pain and suffering. But then - and I can’t understate how much I love this - Logan helps guide him.

Logan: “I was your most helpless student.”

Logan is able to guide him, showing off not only his own growth but also the strength in his relationship with Charles/Professor X. We are reminded of all of Logan’s pain as Charles sees it, but we see now that he has moved past it. It is absolutely incredible for me and leads to an amazing scene.

34) Charles (McAvoy) and Professor X (Stewart) meet.

This scene has much more of an impact now than I was expecting. Charles is at his most broken in life, it will never get worse for him than this. Or so he thinks. He looks into the future and sees just how awful things have gotten and he sees his older self in Professor X. Except when Professor X speaks of the future…he still has faith that it can turn out well. He still has HOPE. Professor X’s endless search for hope has always been his defining feature and it is something he has even in a dark future. It is something Charles has lost and which his older self helps him find again. It is an absolutely beautiful and moving scene, perfect in so many ways. Developing Charles, giving us a peek into the mindset of Professor X, we even get an incredible new theme from composer John Ottman. “Hope (Xavier’s Theme)” I think might be the most moving piece of music in the entire X-Men franchise and I absolutely love it.

35) If you’re a writing student, I suggest you analyze Raven’s character in this film. Particularly the scene where she and Charles are talking about Trask in an airport. It’s an excellent example of how important stakes are to a story and its characters. If a character can leave the scene without what they want and not be devastated, the stakes are too low. Raven’s personal stakes are high as are Charles’. And the fact that Raven doesn’t is still set on this path leaves Charles - in some shape or form - devastated.

36)

Hank [about where his device monitors news]: “Over all three networks. And PBS.”

Wolverine: “All three? Wow.”

Hank: Yeah. And PBS.”

37) The effect of Charles’ discussion with Professor X has an immediate effect and shows that he IS now that man. He is the man who has hope when all is lost, when everything looks grim. He still has faith in people and hope for the best.

38) How powerful do you think this is to hear?

Logan: “Storm, Scott, Jean. Remember those names.”

Charles [after a moment]: “I’ll do my best.”

Logan: “You’re best is enough.”

Can you imagine what that would feel like? This guy from the future telling you that you’re best is enough. Because that’s all we can ever do is our best. And to know that that is enough is just…I cannot tell you how happy I would be in life to hear those words.

39) Thanks to @orsonkrehnnic for this amazing GIF set that perfectly captures this scene:

40) The dual climaxes are edited between wonderful, carrying pacing between the two wonderfully and interesting throughout. Cutting between 2023 and 1973 could have been a mess but John Ottman’s editing helps bring the scenes together spectacularly. When one breathes, so does the other, and that’s what works.

41) Logan…

Hank: “In the future, do I make it?”

Logan: “No.”

(GIF source unknown [if this is your GIF please let me know].)

42) Of course Wolverine still gets his ass kicked by Magneto, even without the metal bones. But I will say that removing him from the final conflict is a strong story choice. Because at this point what’s going on between Erik, Mystique, and Charles isn’t about him. It’s about them. The future is about him but it is much more impactful if it results from a choice by everyday people as opposed to the guy who knows what is about to happen. It’s very smart.

43) If this isn’t a beautiful final line for Ian McKellen’s Magneto I don’t know what is.

44) I love this.

Charles [when he can control Raven’s mind]: “I’ve been trying to control you since the day we meet. Look at where that’s got us.”

Charles TRUSTS Mystique. He trusts Raven. He lets her make her own choice and she choses life. She choses to be better. She choses not to become the murderer that Mystique is in the future. But her journey isn’t over yet. That won’t come until Apocalypse.

45) Did I mention I love that Charles embraces the Professor X philosophy?

Hank [about Mystique and Erik]: “Are you sure you should let them go?”

Charles: “Yes. I have hope for them.”

46) I cannot begin to express how satisfying this ending is.

I wish I could find a video clip of the ending so I can perfectly illustrate just how amazing it is, but everything about it feels EARNED. Everything about it breathes HOPE. And not just for this movies. It may be most effective while watching these back to back, but I geeked out at seeing everything. Seeing Rogue and Bobby back together, Kitty and Colossus teaching a class together, Kelsey Grammer’s brief cameo as Beast, Storm as a teacher. THEY EVEN GOT JEAN AND SCOTT BACK! Everything about it just feels SO GOOD! The characters we’ve cared for and loved for 14 years now are happy and at peace. And so what if Logan fucks up their lives again? Right now, everything is just good.

Note: I also own The Rogue Cut version of this film, which reintroduced a subplot featuring Anna Paquin’s return as Rogue that was deleted from the theatrical release for pacing issues. I WILL be doing a post about that sometime in the future. I’ve never seen it before so whatever that post looks like it’ll be a first time viewing. That’ll be labeled as 173.1.

There is a chance that X-Men: Days of Future Past is the best X-Men film yet (as in has X-Men in the title, so discounting films like Deadpool and Logan). It seamlessly blends together a large cast of characters from both the original trilogy and the First Class cast in a story which does the same. With strong performances throughout and incredible character drama (ESPECIALLY for Charles), it marks a triumphant return for director Bryan Singer. The action is better than ever, featuring that amazing Quicksilver scene, and it is practically perfectly paced. X-Men: Days of Future Past is an incredible entertaining and emotionally satisfying film all fans of the series - old and new - should watch.

LOGAN: EASTER EGGS, TRIVIA, AND THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

DISCLAIMER: I haven;’t found any of these easter eggs on my own, I did a bit of research and gathered the many easter eggs I found from multiple sites. I know there are definitely more easter eggs that I didn’t include because I either didn’t spot/know about them or didn’t think they were important enough. If you noticed that I missed an easter egg that you would like me to include, please feel free to tell me and I’d gladly add it! I also apologize that this list isn’t as long as my other easter egg posts, it’s just been a hectic few days and I haven’t had much time to do more research. Also please let me know if i made any mistakes.

AVALANCHE

Rictor, the leader of the children from the X-23 program, had the power to move rocks and earth with his mind. When Logan looked over Rictor’s file, Dominikos Patrakis was listed as his DNA source. That name is the alter ego of the classic villain, Avalanche.

ALKALI

Logan referred to Transigen by another name - Alkali. Alkali Lake was the location of the original Weapon X Program, and that same company is the one that eventually became Transigen. The carryover is the reason the company had Logan’s DNA in the first place.

OLD MAN LOGAN

The fourth song on the soundtrack is titled ‘Old Man Logan’. The 'Old Man Logan’ storyline from the comics was the original source for Logan’s story.

GREENWOOD CEMETERY

At the beginning of the movie, when Logan picks some people up at the funeral at Greenwood Cemetery, which has been used throughout Marvel comics. Captain America’s memorial is in Greenwood in the Ultimates storyline, and Sue Storm was buried there after her death. There are also the names “Rogers” and “Peters” on tombstones, which are references to Captain America and Quicksilver.

CALIBAN

We’ve already seen the character of Caliban in X-Men: Apocalypse! When asked about it, James Mangold said “It’s a funny, messy story of how so often these things are not as coordinated as everyone thinks,” director James Mangold told us at a recent press event for 20th Century Fox. “I actually had written him into our movie, and they didn’t know [he was] in Apocalypse, and then they kind of wrote it in their movie, and they cast someone in their movie and I had not seen it and was working away on mine.” So it was just a big coincidence! Stephen Merchant plays Caliban in Logan, and Tómas Lemarquis plays him in Apocalypse.

WOLVERINE’S MUTTON CHOPS

At the end of the movie, the children decided to shave of a part of Logan’s beard, which resulted in him having his classic Wolverine mutton chop look.

WOLVERINE’S KATANA

In the movie we see that Logan has a samurai sword (katana), which is a callback The Wolverine and Logan’s many other adventures in Japan.

STATUE OF LIBERTY AND OTHER CALLBACKS

There were many many callbacks to the previous X-Men movies in the dialogue of this movie such as Professor X talking about discovering Logan as a cage fighter, Logan still smoking cigars, the battle at the Statue of Liberty, and Adamantium bullets.

PROFESSOR X’S NEW HOME

Charles’ round home thing is sort of the exact opposite of Cerebro. Its inside mirror the inside of Cerebro, but it acts as a method of surprising his telekinesis.

CHRISTOPHER BRADLEY

Another mutant whose DNA samples were used for the clones was Christopher Bradley, a.k.a. Bolt/Maverick, and we do see a kid who has electricity powers! We last saw Christopher Bradley/Bolt/Maverick in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but due to the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, none of the events in X-Men Origins: Wolverine happened (not going to even try explaining the timeline, I don’t even get it completely). (Anyone else recognize the actor, Dominic Monaghan, as Merry from LOTR?)

SHANE

James Mangold has said that he views Logan to be sort of a Western movie and he was inspired by the 1953 movie Shane, which follows an aging, reluctant hero attempting to escape his old life only to be dragged back in, which is a clear parallel to Wolverine’s storyline in this movie. We even see Professor X & Laura watching the movie in the hotel room!

WOLVERINE’S CLASSIC COMICS SUIT

Sadly, Hugh Jackman is done with the Wolverine role, and we never got to see him wear the classic yellow Wolverine costume from the comics (I’m not too upset about him not wearing the costume, in my opinion he looks cooler without it). Anyways, in addition to seeing it in Laura’s comicbook, we see one of the mutant kids holding a doll wearing the classic Wolverine suit.

DEADPOOL 2 TEASER

By now we’ve all seen he teaser trailer for Deadpool 2, and this short little teaser is filled with easter eggs itself!

  • While Deadpool is in the phone booth, the words “Nathan Summers Coming Soon” are written on the frame. Nathan Summers is the real name of the character Cable, who is going to be in the Deadpool sequel.
  • In addition to the very obvious Logan posters in the background, there’s also a Firefly poster. Firefly is a tv show created by Joss Wheadon, who also directed The Avengers (note: Deadpool & Logan & the rest of the X-Men universe movies don’t take place in the same universe as The Avengers, aka the MCU) Anyways, some fans have theorized that the Firefly poster could be a hint that we could see Nathan Fillion in Deadpool 2.
  • UPDATE: The Firefly poster could also be a reference to Morena Baccarin - she plays Inara in Firefly and was Vanessa in Deadpool (she will reprise her role in the sequel).
  • The huge chunk of text at the end of the trailer is an actual book report for The Old Man and the Sea. I don’t know the connection or why it was done (I’m presuming it’s just a joke) but if anyone knows, feel free to let me know and I’ll update this post.

Change of Plans: Part one

A/N: Okay so, this is the first part of this. It ended up getting super wordy. @themcuhasruinedme was the best and help me write this so go check her out. But I really liked writing this and I hope you guys like it. this is my first Wolverine fic so feedback is appreciated.

Requested by anon:  Hello there ! I was wondering, do you think you could write a angsty Bucky x Reader where he dumps her like trash and she ends up falling in love with Wolverine but Bucky’s also in love with her, please

Word count: 2057 words

Warnings: Cheating, a bit of angst, maybe as curse word idk

Setting down your bag on the table, you slipped of your shoes before looking around your apartment. You noticed it was a bit dirty, so you decided to clean it up before your boyfriend, Bucky got home from the compound today.

Deciding to clean the bedroom first you started by making the bed and picking up any trash that had missed the basket. Once you finished that you decided to run a quick load of clothes.

Vancouver Crowd

I don’t know if anybody else has headcanons for these boys but I have noticed a lack of them. So here are some bits I’ve written up for each of the boys of the Litchfield House please feel free to add on to these! I used what little info we had about them from the books to form some bullets.

HENRY BROADWAY AKA CHENG2

  • Known as Cheng2 not because we was the second Cheng, but rather the second Henry. He sort of embraces this though because him and Henry have been best friends since private primary school and have been attached at the hip for years.
  • Cheng2 was always the shy one which is how he ended up being the 2. He didn’t really like to let anybody get too close to him and prefers to have only a few close friends over a big group.
  • But the reserved side of Cheng2 ceased to exist when he started at Agliony. Henry managed to form a group around him that made Cheng2 feel comfortable and included. Soon, his louder side was coming out.
  • One of the things about being the shy guy was that he spent a lot of time not really talking to anyone so, because of it, when he does open his mouth, usually it’s to say something unbelievably stupid like “Holy fuck, we got girls?” but yah know.
  • He’s a fucking economics wiz and plans on majoring it. He’s pretty much Ivy League bound which is fine by him. He doesn’t know what getting burnt out feels like. He works incredibly hard for his good grades and hasn’t found that they have come easy to him like some of his other friends. But he lives for success. He has goals and he’s going to achieve them and nobody is going to stop him.
  • That’s probably because he’s constantly drinking a red bull to stay up studying until 4am and then smoking a bowl to fall asleep. The other perk of being The Shy Guy at school is that nobody knows when you show up high to class. He’s taken advantage of this fact multiple times.

Holly Ashton’s Fanfic List

Here’s a collection of fan fiction I’ve written, all inspired by the world Pixelberry has created for us. I don’t own any of the characters. I just really love them and got inspired to create fictional stories for them. :)

The top stories I enjoyed writing the most are: A Love That Isn’t Ours, Parallel Lines, Paper Hearts, Anchor, My Girl (Finally), and Shadows and Light. Have a good read! I’d also appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

Everything Stays

(Old Man Logan x POC reader)

(Contains spoilers from ‘Logan’. Also this is canon previous story titled ‘Love Like You’.)

You were outside behind the Munson’s home, watching the sun slowly settling down. Nate, their son, was showing Laura their horses. Surprisingly, Laura didn’t attempt to slaughter them. She found them cute and soft.

Curiosity. Relaxed.

It was nice feeling. Over the past two days on the road, all you felt from Logan, Laura and the Professor was dread, terror, rage, and uncertainty. One of the cons of being an empath:

You feel everything all at once.

Then you feel anxiety, longing, dread, and tiredness.

“You know I don’t like it when people sneak up on me.” You say to him. “I can feel you, ya know.”

“It’s not hard to forget.” Logan said.

You didn’t get up from your stop but you turn your head to the side as he sat down next to you.

“You need to relax.” You tell him. “All this anxiety is making me more anxious.”

“You’re kidding right? Relax? How the hell am I suppose to relax?” Logan questions. “Everywhere we go, more blood is shed. More…”

“Death.” You say.

Logan scoffs. “And finding out that I got a….offspring.”

“Pushing people away doesn’t protect them.” You said, knowing that he is keeping his distance from Laura because he feared that she’ll end up dead because of him.

“y/n I don’t expect you to understand-”

“I’m a fucking empath, James Howlett.” You scold at him. “I can detect emotions from others. So I know exactly how you feel. I DO understand.”

Logan didn’t respond. He merely stares at you, his face contorted in frustration. He was clearly feeling frustrated but there was a wanting to feel safe and built up desire. Logan gets up and walks away.

You’re left to wonder.

You help Kathryn with dinner. She’s glad to have someone help her out. She is very relieved.

“So is Laura your daughter, y/n?”

“No, I’m more of a surrogate sister. She’s Logan’s daughter.” You explain. “I’m a close family friend.”

Kathryn nods. “Are you and Logan together?”

The question caught you off guard. “No we’re not.”

“I’m sorry for assuming but it’s just I notice how he looks at you.” Kathryn said. “But I can tell he’s not the type to express his feelings.”

“Oh you have no idea.”

Before dinner is finished, you found Logan near the horses. Laura was nearby sitting on a tree branch eating Pringles.

Logan gently strokes the horse’s face in slow motions. This made him feel relaxed.

“You and Laura have a thing with horses I see.” You said, making your presence known.

Logan grunts. “What’s your point?”

“You’re not as anxious as you were earlier. Much more calmer.” You inform him.

Logan looks at you. “y/n, have I ever mention I always wanted to own a farm?”

You shook your head.

“Yeah, well, ya know-buy some land, horses, cows, the whole fucking 9 yards.” Logan sighs. “Didn’t expect a guy like me to want something like that did ya?”

“I kind of did. I just thought it was far fetched.”

After dinner, you went outside to look at the sky. Charles was in bed asleep thought you’re on high alert should anything happen. Laura was in the house and Logan…

Logan was somewhere.

You’re caught off guard when you felt a pair of strong arms engulfing you in a embrace. You blush hard.

“Fuck Logan.” You cursed lowly.

He didn’t say anything but place his lips against the side of your head. You relaxed against him. He wanted you. He wanted to feel safe. To feel good. Desire. Lust.

His grip became tighter and he breathes against your ear, making you shiver. You turn around and kiss him softly on the lips. You can taste the alcohol that lingers on his breath.

You both ended up on the soft grass, he kisses and holds onto you like you’re close to disappearing. He removes your jeans and unbuckles his belt.

You lie there with Logan cradling your head. There was no anger, no fear, no guilt. There was only peace.

All-Time Favourite Ships!

From books, movies, Broadway, and TV shows!

(list not in any particular order and may contain spoilers).

1. Bellarke: Bellamy Blake and Clarke Griffen from The 100 (TV)

Okay, I know I said that the list is in no particular order, but this ship is my all time OTP since I started watching The 100. And I can’t sleep at night knowing that they are not officially canon yet, even if it was pretty clear in Praimfiya that it will be endgame! So exited for their reunion in Season 5. I spend hours on end reading Bellarke fan fiction all day, every day. And Bellamy is my baby and I love his so much. And I can’t wait to see how he is after the six-year time jump on the show. Sometimes, I think that I watch the show just for these two.

2. Haleb: Hanna Marin and Caleb Rivers from Pretty Little Liars (TV)

Again, like I said that this list is in no particular order, this ship would defiantly be in my top 5. Anyway, I still have to properly sit down and watch Season 7B of Pretty Little Liars so don’t spoil anything for me. Haleb in my opinion, is the best ship on this show, but I think towards the early seasons I used to ship Ezria more but when Caleb showed up with his long hair, I died. And therefore, they became my favourite ship. I remember, I put watching the show on break after Caleb left to do his own show is either season 3 or 4, I don’t remember exactly. But yeah, these two are pretty cute together and I hope it stays that way.

3. Stydia: Stiles Stilinksi and Lydia Martin from Teen Wolf (TV)

Okay, again, probably in my top 7. So, the thing with Stydia is that they dragged it out for so long that the anticipation killed me. But I love them still so much. And Dylan O’Brian is just on a different level of awesomeness (and cuteness). And Lydia, even though she used to annoy me at first, and Teen Wolf is probably not my favourite TV show, but it’s still good, and Lydia’s character started to grow on me and I need to catch up on Season 6, (don’t judge me guys, the past few moths for me have been really busy) and I just recently started to watch this show, like maybe two years ago, but still, love love love.

4. Linctavia: Lincoln and Octavia Blake from The 100 (TV)

Okay, so another The 100 ship, but oh my lord I scream every time someone mentions them! They are so adorably cute and the flyest of power couples who don’t give a damn about what people think. And every time I think of Lincoln, I just might well cry because he didn’t deserve what he got. Fucking Pike. I’m glad Octavia killed him. And the song to which Lincoln dies to, and the one where Octavia’s scream and cries are kinda muffled, it’s called Cloud by Elias, and it’s in my playlist and then I have a mini breakdown when it comes on and think of Lincoln falling on his knees in the tiny puddle and Octavia and I just cry a little more on the inside. Anyway, probably the best couple to ever exist on the show and maybe even ever in this whole damn world. They were so fucking badass together, I loved every minute of it.

5. Sciles: Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf (TV)

Okay, so this is like my favourite BROTP of all eternity. I just think that their relationship is so cute and how much they care about each other, and the hug in season 3 is my everything, ahhh, I just love them so much it hurts. And throughout the show we can see their friendship grow even though they have been friends since they were little. Damn, I wish I had a friendship like that.

6. Chair: Charles “Chuck” Bass and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl (TV)

Ahhh, Blair and Chuck, Chuck and Blair! I don’t think anyone will ever know how happy I was when the endgame for their endgame actually happened. Honestly, I was rooting for them since Blair’s birthday episode in the first season, even when everyone was after Nate and Blair, but no, not gonna happen. I just thought that Nate was very innocent and nice for Blair. Blair needed someone like Chuck and I don’t think anyone ever loved anyone else as much as Chuck loves Blair. I love them, they are so perfect for each other, with their games. I wish I had a Chuck. Blair’s lucky. Haha.

I saw Logan. It fucked me up. Definitely worth seeing in a good theater if you want to suffer and feel your heart broken into a million tiny pieces.

Hugh Jackman is a seriously underrated talent. And that little girl…. man…. she stole the show in some scenes.

I think the most tragic part, for me personally, wasn’t only the very tenuous relationship Logan has with humanity (and this tiny she-wolverine) although that was very very sad - I think the absolute biggest tragedy of the story was Xavier and his baggage.

Thinking about how deeply he “failed” in his mission in this future timeline is, tbh, it’s chilling. In Days of Future Past at least you knew it would end well and Prof. X was being selfish and self-pitying and remedied that and got back to saving the world.

But in Logan… that’s all out the window. He tried his best. In fact, in the face of senility, he’s STILL trying his best…. but he’s failing. He fails.

There’s the tiniest glimmer of hope at the end but it feels much more like a broken legacy, not at all measuring up to what Xavier put into his life and his people.

Man. It’s a bleak film.

So as I’m still salty about Addy most likely getting retired let’s talk about what American Girl is doing rn

Because I usually try to keep this blog positive but americangirlstar is p*ssed so let’s have a friggin discussion

Here’s the thing with American Girl thus far:

  • They are focusing too much on their Contemporary Dolls

American Girl was created in the 1980s by Pleasant T Rowland. She was inspired by the history around her in Colonial Williamsburg and decided to write a line of books to teach History to girls through girls like them, accompanying them with “beautifully crafted dolls and accessories that fed a girl’s imagination and taught history through the lives of its young heroines.” (American Girl Ultimate Visual Guide, page 10)

Now, remember that. American Girl was created to teach girls history through their dolls and their stories.

Which leads me two the fact that FOUR Contemporary Dolls were released this year.

[Pictured: 2017′s Contemporary Characters, with Tenney Grant, Z Yang and Logan Everett on the top and Tenney Grant, Z Yang and Gabriela McBride on the bottom]

And while it is nice to have a Black Disabled GotY, a Korean Doll and the first boy doll, their stories don’t really teach much except for the usual “be yourself” stuff.

Also released this year were two BeForevers (half as much as the Contemporary), and one of which was a re-release with NO COLLECTION and the other of which hasn’t been released yet.

[Pictured: Felicity’s Collection, including the doll, accessories, three books and undergarments; nothing else, which is much less than the other dolls]

That’s not all. Ignoring all the advertising Tenney has gotten with the BeForevers not getting much, what else shows AG’s shift in focus? The movies.

Originally, AG released movies exclusively for their Historical Characters. Samantha’s came first, followed by Felicity and Molly. Kit’s was even released in theaters. (Which I remember, because I went to see it and brought by Nicki doll along too)

After that? Chrissa- the 2009 Girl of the Year- got a movie. Now, by this point, Girl of the Year was kinda a side thing. Yeah, they got cool stuff, but they weren’t overhyped or anything. Chrissa changed this: she was extremely hyped, getting a huge collection, TWO gal pal best friend dolls and a movie. I remember seeing trailers for the Chrissa movie before the doll was even announced to the public: They called it “The Girl of the Year Movie” and it was a big deal.

After Chrissa, it started to die down a little with Lanie and Kanani, but when McKenna rolled around, for some reason she was also given a movie and big collection. Well, ok, that’s fine, until Saige came out the next year, also with a huge collection and movie. Then Isabelle, and by this point we all kinda realized that American Girl cared WAY more about the GotYs than the Historical Characters. The next BeForever movie didn’t come until 2016, with Melody and Maryellen, both of which were Amazon Prime Exclusive.

Which I guess makes sense from a business standpoint- according to page 14 of the Ultimate Visual Guide, it takes only two years to make a Girl of the Year and three to make a BeForever, since they have to make sure everything is Historically Accurate.

But here’s the thing: it’s not just that the focus is now on hyping up the Girls of the Year. Let me repeat what I said earlier:

Rowland was inspired by the history around her in Colonial Williamsburg and decided to write a line of books to teach History to girls through girls like them, accompanying them with “beautifully crafted dolls and accessories that fed a girl’s imagination and taught history through the lives of its young heroines.”

The way this is stated expresses that the books came first, dolls second. Which brings me to…

  • American Girl seems to be more focused on playing it safe than creating interesting stories… and that’s a problem.

I don’t know about you guys, but I didn’t ask for American Girl Dolls every Christmas as a kid because I liked the dolls (though they are beautiful!). I wanted them because I remember the stories. I beggede for Josefina and Kaya because I loved their stories. My sister asked for Kirsten and Addy for the same reason, my little sister can’t talk about the dolls without bringing up how great Felicity’s books are. The reason American Girl has lasted this long is because the stories draw us to the characters, and we relate to the girls.

I don’t think American Girl understands this.

According to rumors, Samantha and Addy are going to be retired this year. Let’s look at what happens in their stories:

  • Samantha lives in the 1904 Suffragette Period, learning about the Women’s Rights movement, and helps her friend escape poverty and abuse. She learns about Child Labor and speaks out against it.
  • Addy lives in 1864, during the end of the Civil War. She is born a slave, and in the first book she watches her father and brother sold and then escapes with her Mama to the North, where she learns about freedom and tries to bring her family back together.

I could literally write an essay on how important the Addy Doll is (but this post is already to long so tl;dr I’m upset that AG thinks it’s a good idea to retire her). These two aren’t exclusive in their mature storylines: Kirsten’s best friend died on her way to America, Kaya also escapes slavery, Josefina and her family are dealing with grief from her mother’s death, Kit’s books deal with the homeless situation in the Great Depression, etc.

The thing is these storylines work because they’re not sugarcoated. We want to see a character struggle so we can cheer when they finally succeed. These were also realistic things that would happen to these girls: the girls feel real because real things happen to them.

But here’s the thing. I think American Girl is trying to get away from that, to write “safer” storylines. Look at a newer historical character: Maryellen, from 1954. What happens in her story? Well… she talks about how she had polio once- before the story, and it doesn’t really affect anything until she later tries to get people to vaccinate their kids. Her sister gets married. She wants it to snow on Christmas.

And… that’s about it.

And that’s a reason why the re-focus on the Contemporaries isn’t that great: the Contemporary Dolls have nowhere near as complex storylines. Just looking at the newer ones, Gabriela’s main focus is Poetry and Student Council, Z just likes to make movies, and Tenney gets a freaking record deal at the age of 12-13! How many little girls can relate to getting a record deal? Probably the darkest storyline would be Chrissa getting bullied, which is NOTHING compared to Addy having to escape slavery.

It seems that the refocus is less because the Contemporary Dolls make more money (though they might), and more because their stories are safe. You can’t have soccer moms yelling at you for a GotY who just likes gymnastics and doesn’t have to face racism in the 1860′s. You don’t have to deal with the problems of the past if you can just market to girls who like doll clothes and expensive doll furniture.

Which is why retiring two of their most significant Historical Dolls seems like a big misstep to me; Samantha tells girls about Women’s Suffrage and Child Labor, Addy tells them about finding freedom and dealing with racism in a crappy society. Retiring them makes it seem like AG’s trying to sweep all that “dark stuff” under the rug. And they can probably argue “Well, we have Felicity to talk about feminism and Melody to talk about anti-segregation.” Well, Felicity is a cool doll with a great storyline, but she doesn’t live in a period of change for women’s right and children’s rights. Melody is a great doll, but her storyline is more focused on her singing- she does experience racism in her life, but she lives in a town that is not segregated: she learns about segregation from her cousin, kind of passively experiences changes instead of taking part in the activity around her. While Addy and Melody are both interesting characters, Addy faces more difficulties and has a much different story than Melody.

I think I got a bit off track? But my point is basically that American Girl has forgotten that their main draw is their storylines. That’s why a lot of older girls still collect the dolls; we love the stories around them and the characters the dolls represent. But AG is trying much too hard to play the stories safe, and thus the company doesn’t seem as good now.

Seriously, ask a girl who likes AG to tell you about Mia St. Clair. Chances are they won’t tell you much. Ask them who Felicity is, and they’ll get way more into the topic. Because she’s far more interesting!

So, uh, yeah.

- Mod Samantha

fics i read while on vacation

I went to australia to visit family last week, and boy oh boy are layovers and delays a joy - especially when you are not a person who easily sleeps on planes. To cope, I ended up downloading a bunch of long fics and binge read them all. The hardest part was just picking a few (lol) of what I read for this list.

Here are some of the ones I loved the most. They’re mostly cherik but there’s also a klance, a drarry, and a stony or two (or three) because those pairings are like my comfort food when it comes to fanfiction, and I needed that the past two weeks (hello, canceled flights and difficult support staff). These are also all rated either Mature or Explicit, so if that’s your thing, join me. This is a long one.

As always, if you want more recs from a whole host of pairings and more nonsensical gushing about why I love them, check out my bookmarks on my ao3: megamazing. All links below go to the ao3 version of the work. Click the titles for the link even if the little line doesn’t show up under them. And don’t forget to leave kudos for the authors and share the love!

Gilmore Girls revival thoughts

What I loved:

  1. REFLECTING LIGHT/THE WEDDING!!!
This needs to be shouted from the rooftops. I was so hoping this song would be featured in Luke and Lorelai’s wedding and when I heard the first note I started bawling like a baby and finally stopped crying about 3h later. The whole wedding really was perfect. I could hear my heart beating in my years, so happy (and sobbing) I was.
SHE’S OFFICIALLY MRS. BACKWARDS BASEBALL CAP YOU GUYS!!!

  2. Everything Richard.
The funeral, the flashbacks, the portraits. It was such a great homage to Ed and to Grandpa Gilmore, I bawled my eyes out through the entire thing and I don’t think there’ll ever come a time when I watch Emily/Rory kiss his portrait and I won’t start crying. I get chocked up just thinking about it. It was beautiful. Just beautiful. So well done.

  3. The Lorelai & Emily’s storyline.
It was simply perfect. Lauren and Kelly knocked it out of the park. The fight in the kitchen is going down in history. I particularly loved how Emily treats Lorelai before they start fighting in the living room, like she’s 6yo again.
    “Lorelai, not a single word.”
    “Don’t follow.”
Just so freaking perfect. I loved it and it was so in character for both of them. It was perfect. And don’t get me started on the phone call in Fall because I’m too dehydrated to start crying again.

  4. Lauren breaking character.
She did it in a number of scenes. Once with Sookie, twice with Rory, once in the scene with Richard’s smaller portrait. If Lauren Graham can’t keep it together how do you expect me to do that? Also, give the woman ALL THE FREAKING EMMYS NOW. It’s long overdue anyway. You owe her, Academys.

  5. Jess’ growth.
He’s the only character who’s really shown some growth when he appears on screen, everyone else seems to be stuck in their life, like they can’t move forward, but Jess has got his shit together and even stirs Rory in the right direction, I was so proud of him.

  6. Every single Jess/Luke scene.
Each and everyone of them. Milo and Scott are buddies in real life and you can totally see that on screen, they’re hilarious and a joy to watch.

  7. Paris. In all her glory.
She’s still our old Paris and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Liza got back into character so easily and she was absolutely brilliant. I laughed my socks off at her antics. The whole bathroom scene and the stairs conversation. Just hilarious. Loved it. Missed her.

  8. The Life and death brigade.
Oh my God, that whole sequence was so cinematic, the director of photography and Amy nailed it there. Simply nailed it. I was in awe watching it. Really made me happy to see them all together again. I cried when Rory said goodbye to them. Yes, I cried even then. Leave me alone.

  9. “Still best friends”.
Of course I cried through the whole thing like the little bitch that I am and I regret nothing. Seeing Lauren and Melissa unable to keep back tears…I was a mess. Beautiful. Well done. Thank you.

  10. Michel out of the closet.
    Need I say more?

  11. Emily and the help.
I laughed so hard at that. Cannot actually believe Emily kept a maid for a whole entire year and even welcomed her family with open arms in her house. I’m so proud of you, grandma Gilmore.

  12. Cornstarch.
Again, sobbed. I feel like ASP treated only Dean with some respect in this revival. He’s happy, got his own family and Rory was actually nice to him and the whole “you taught me what feeling safe is like” speech had me sobbing. Only people who had a great first love can relate to this, I guess. I’m glad they gave them that scene. They both deserved it.

  13. Luke and Paul Anka.
Cried my eyes out. Loved it. Gimme a spin-off.

  14. Kirk’s second movie.
    That’s all.

  15. The swearing!
Lorelai saying “Holy shit!” and Emily saying “Bullshit!” 3 TIMES IN THE SAME SCENE. Amen.

  16. The music!!!
Wow. It was everything I could have asked for and more. Sam Phillips, Grant-Lee Phillips, Dolly Parton, Nancy Sinatra, the Carpenters. PERFECTION.

What I didn’t love (Oh boy, sit down and grab a drink):

  1. Rory.
Just Rory in general. And not because she was 32 and rootless, living a vagabond life. I actually liked that she didn’t have her shit together and didn’t know in which direction to go. In this day and age it is very realistic and I’m glad Rory is not the perfect 16yo we first met in the show. But the the whole Logan affair that ultimately resulted in an illegitimate child was just not for me. I hated it. Not necessarily the pregnancy, just how we got there. Am I supposed to believe Rory Gilmore, my Rory Gilmore, would be fine being the other woman like that? There were never actual signs that she was in love with Logan or Logan with her, it felt more like they were comfortable being with each other and it was simply fun. They didn’t want for their thing to be anything more than it actually was. “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”. Logan made it clear he wouldn’t have left his fiancée for her, so she was settling for second best there. And hell no. Just no. It was a disservice to the character of Rory, really.
And don’t even get me started on how she treated that poor Paul guy. What happened to you Rory?

  2. ASP (almost) total dismissal of S7.
Hadn’t it been for the mention of Chris and Lorelai’s wedding, none of what happened in it was taken into consideration. None of it. Good or bad. And I get ASP didn’t want to acknowledge it, but it was a year worth of storylines completely ignored and I think it did more damages than good, ultimately.

  3. Logan.
He’d grown up so much in S7 and now he’s back to the little snobby cheating careless kid we met in S5. He asked Rory to marry him, am I supposed to believe he’s totally cool now with having her as nothing more than his mistress? The guy was in love with the girl, if I were a sophies shipper I’d be livid right now.

  4. Jess’ conclusion or lack thereof.
If you want me to believe Jess, who’s literally the only character who’s got his shit together in this revival, is still pining for Rory after more than a decade, then I’m gonna need some follow through, some more intel at the very least.
Otherwise, just keep it to yourself ASP. Please and thank you.

  5. Scott and Lauren’s chemistry.
    Ouch.
That’s the thing that probably hurt the most, aside from Rory.
WHERE HAS THAT CHEMISTRY GONE? If we don’t count every scene in Fall and a couple more here and there, they’ve completely lost their sparkle and it made my heart ache. Some scenes were unbearable to watch because you could definitely tell something was missing there. Some scenes were great and it felt like no time had passed at all, but some others were painful to watch. Just painful.

  6. The whole Luke and Lorelai pre-fall story line.
No bueno. So they’ve spent 9 years together with zero progress in their relationship and dealing with the same communication issues they’ve always dealt with? You’re telling me that after a whopping 11 years in total of relationship these two still make the same mistakes over and over? Well, THAT is disappointing.
Didn’t they learn anything from the past? At all?
Everything Emily says to Lorelai about Luke was SPOT ON, as much as it pains me to admit it. And you can definitely tell Luke would do anything to make her happy, he even says so himself at the end, but when will Lorelai do something for him?
The whole baby talk/surrogacy thing drove me up the wall. So he wanted a child, never brought it up, she wanted him to have a child - their child,  never brought it up either. Now they’re 50 and childless. Great. Just fucking great.
I mean…ASP should have given them that kid. They just should have opened the revival with a 8yo Gilmore-Danes kid running around and if Amy didn’t want them to have one, then fine, I can respect that, just spare me the whole “ooops, too little too late” thing because it broke my heart into a thousand pieces. I’m a nice person, I didn’t deserve that.

  7. The way Rory mourned Richard’s death.
Did she mourn at all? Okay, except for the scene when she goes into Richard’s office and that one scene when she kisses the portrait, she seemed a bit unfazed by the passing of her beloved grandfather. Rory loved him to pieces and he loved her just as much and, maybe it was Alexis’ fault and not the Amy’s writing, but it just felt like Emily and Lorelai were having so much more of a hard time adjusting to life without Richard than Rory was. Made me really sad.

  8. THE MUSICAL. ALL OF IT. TOO MUCH. TOO LONG. TOO EVERYTHING.

  9. Christopher’s existence.
I did appreciate the fact that Amy officially patented him as an asshole though. That was nice. “It was supposed to happen that way,” oh give me a break! You weren’t there to raise Rory because you didn’t want to be there, not because it was supposed to happen. You were a joke of a father by your own choice. Shut up.

  10. April.
As much as I was dreading seeing her, I knew we had to see her at some point, so I prepared myself. One would have thought the girl would have had more screen time and at least showed up for her father’s wedding. But I laughed my ass off at that scene at the dinner table, so she was good for something at least.

  11. The cameos (especially Peter Krause’s).
Too many of them, didn’t really need them. Also, the whole Lorelai/ranger talk made me cringe, I get that they’re together in real life, but Lorelai was full on flirting with him and it was so inappropriate and as a java junkie shipper made me vomit a little in my mouth. Could have done without.

  12. Amy Sherman - Palladino’s stubbornness.
Last but not least, I think what bothered me the most was exactly this. Don’t get me wrong: her show her rules.
    Fine.
I learned that lesson the hard way in Partings already. If she wants to piss fans off she will and she wont even think about it twice. I respect that kind of integrity and I wouldn’t want her to refrain from exploring this world she created the way she wants to, just because she’s scared of making fans unhappy. You can’t please everybody, some people will always be unsatisfied and that’s okay. That’s life, no harm no foul.
What I really don’t get is why she had to ignore completely season 7 and also make it feel like no time has passed at all in Stars Hollow. Let’s take Richard’s death aside for a moment, what the hell has happened in those 9 years for our girls? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Many characters are in a stalemate. Lorelai didn’t get married to Luke, didn’t have any more children, didn’t do much at or with the Dragonfly, she’s exactly where we left her. Rory is jobless, homeless, still trying to figure out what to do with her life, 9 years later. Luke is the same old same old, which is in character but also…what the hell? Did time stop there? Hadn’t it been for Ed’s death - may he rest in peace - Amy would have had 0 ideas for a revival. What would have moved the plot ahead? I’m not sure she had this grand vision of how the show was supposed to end, after all.
Also, I’m glad she stuck to her own ending and to the infamous “last 4 words” - again, I appreciate the artistic integrity - but it was a bit out of place here, in this context at least. So, correct me if I’m wrong, Rory is Lorelai 2.0? I spent 16 years watching this show, only to see the daughter make the same exact mistakes her mother did? And can we call a child “a mistake” even when the mother is a Yale graduate world traveler 32 year old? I don’t think so.
It didn’t come full circle, not in the way it was intended to when Amy first thought of the last 4 words.
Also, side note, those 4 words? Predictable as fuck. Just saying.

All in all, I loved going back to Stars Hollow. It was like coming back home after a long time. It comforted me, it made me laugh and it made me cry far too much, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Stars Hollow is home and always will be.

Was A Year In The Life perfect? No.
Was it everything I wanted it to be and more? Probably not.

But that is not what this show is about or was ever about.

If there is anything Amy Sherman-Palladino and this show have taught me is that life is not perfect, that I am allowed to make mistakes and screw up from time to time, that things don’t always go the way we planned and that’s okay.

So no the show didn’t live up to my unrealistic expectations, but then again neither does life. We take the good and deal with the bad the best we can.
So I’ll take the good, because there was SO much of it, it really outnumbered the stuff I didn’t love anyway. I enjoyed every single minute of those 6 hours and that’s what matters the most.

I never thought I’d get the chance to go back to Stars Hollow again. Ever. This was a gift, a blessing truly, and I am forever grateful to each and every person that has made this possible.

And now, let the third rewatch begin…

I smell snow… ❄

wanderingbark  asked:

One of our guys becoming obsessed with the cow poem. The other guy finally acts in his feelings by sending a cow poem that ends with "lik me instead"

The first one appeared after a fight with HYDRA in Minneapolis. Under a picture of the Hulk holding kitten he’d rescued from a dumpster, someone had written the poem in the comment section.

My nam is Hulk

And wen its nite

Or wen the fite

Win by rite,

And all the ‘vengers

Haf a sat –

I stay  late

I hug the cat

Of course, it went viral. In 24 hours, it had been reblogged, reported, and reposted. Everyone talked about the big green guy and the tiny ball of fluff; the poem, while fun, got lost in the discussion of the Hulk’s ability to feel empathy.

Then the second one appeared on a small Avengers blog, accompanying a picture of Thor in midflight.

My nam is Thor

And wen its lite,

Or wen its nite

Or for a bite,

Make all the men

Point and stare –

I take ma hammer

I fly in air.

The post blew up Tumblr and spawned other poems for all the others, even one about Maria Hill who was none too pleased to have her face and name identifies online. Thor loved it, hanging on the common room fridge and sending a copy back to Asgard for his mother.

By the third one, Buzzfeed had caught on and ran a story about the mystery poet.  A snap of Fury on the bridge of the Helicarrier, directing the evacuation of civilians showed up on the President’s twitter account. Despite disavowals by the press secretary, some people believed it was part of a plot to undermine the US government.

My nam is Nick

And wen i fly

Or wen i squint

With ma good eye

And the bad guys

Are out of luck –

I stand and say

Wat the fuck.

Theories began circulating that it was one of the Avengers themselves; Las Vegas bookies had Tony as a 2:1 bet with Clint not far behind. The longest shot was Captain America; no one believed Steve would do such a thing.

A facebook page dedicated to the poem housed the fifth.  Natasha, hair blowing from the explosion behind her, graced the post.

My nam is Nat

And wen thing go boom

Or wen Iron Man

Goes zoom

Wen vilans try

My guard to pass –

I stand tall

And kick sum ass.

Like a tsunami wave, the copycats followed. Johnny Storm started his own blog about the Fantastic Four; his first poem about Victor Von Doom was censored after he rhymed heinous with penis. The argument about sight rhymes that followed included Norm Chomsky and the Oxford English Dictionary twitter page. Xavier’s school hosted a contest; the winner was, shockingly, Logan with his ode to a wolverine.

Almost unnoticed, an unattributed poem popped up on the facebook page. With no picture to go along with it, no one knew who it was aimed at or who wrote it.  Fans dubbed it the “UST” post and speculation ran rampant about both parties involved.

My nam is frend

An wen its nite

I ‘member your ass

All nice and tite.

All the ‘vengers

Haf mates to bed –

I wish you wuld

Lik me instead.

There was a long break before the sixth, and final, poem appeared.

My nam you know

And now its time

To spill my heart

In this dum rime.

I love you most

Now I’ve said –

I’ll stay up late

And lik you instead.

Like all internet fads, the poems faded; in six months, people had moved on to Meryl Streep finishing song lyrics.  No one noticed when Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, quietly got married a year later to one Philip J. Coulson, Agent of SHIELD.

There was no poetry used in the wedding.

Turning Away

Marvel Masterlist / Turning Away Masterlist

Summary: You’re past was anything but the all-American dream. Not many people could say they have a past like yours, but it was yours none the less. But your future? Well that was a whole new chapter – more like a book, and when things finally start looking amazing…. You guessed it, they turn into a living hell. But will there be a happy ending? Only time will tell.

Pairing: Avengers x Reader(platonic), X-Men x Reader(platonic), Logan Howlett x Reader(platonic), Clint Barton x Reader

Warnings: Angst (But of course), violence (wouldn’t be Marvel without it), language (Said in Steve’s voice), fluff (A must need – is this even a warning?), and anything that might be NSFW will be notated on that chapter.

A/N:  This is the revamp of the story. I looked at it and decided that it needs some major work 😊 If you want to be tagged going forward let me know, and I will add you to the list. I hope that this turns out a lot better. I forgot how much I love this series.
