i like this parallel a lot

10

It looks like in every musical I listen to, I keep seeing some parallels with Akechi. This time it’s “Words Fail” from Dear Evan HansenI can’t help but think of how a lot of the lyrics to this song could apply to Akechi too.

Coincidentally, both Evan and Akechi were raised by single moms because their fathers left them. Although Evan definitely had a happier relationship with his mom who thought her son was the best thing that ever happened to her. As opposed to Akechi who was seen as a bastard child that brought shame.

anonymous asked:

How do you think the story would have changed, if Katara's mom had lived?

Oh, this is an interesting question because Kya’s death affects Katara a lot.

I feel like she’d still be determined to help Aang and everything, but I’m not sure how her protection arc would change/ I feel like she’d still feel compelled to protect people since it’s in her nature but, still like her saving Zuko paralleling her saving Aang would mainly be about the Aang/Zuko parallels instead of it also being connectioned to her need to protect people.

It still would, of course but, the impact wouldn’t be as great.

I can’t see her going off on Zuko in “Crossroads in this au though.” She might be angry but, being as angry as canon!Katara seems too forced and ooc to me in this universe.

Also, in this universe, Katara warning Zuko that she’ll kill him if he hurts Aang, aside from being kind of ooc in this universe, would also mostly be about Katara caring deeply for Aang instead of caring deeply for Aang AND also tying into her big protection arc and I’m just like…canon is so much better because of the complexity of this particular arc.

What's YOUR opinion on the Noah's? Idk. I feel like I'm a mixed bag. I love Road and Mikk but hate Jasdevi and lulubell. When the fandom was smaller I never really thought about the Noah much but I feel I under rated them for a long time. Idk I just want other opinions. AA Anon

I don’t have any special, intense affection for any of them (that’s reserved for Allen, Lenalee, Kanda, and Link - again, sorry Lavi) but they’re really good characters and very interesting! I’m looking forward to seeing more of them.

My favorite is Road - she has a lot of parallels to Lenalee, where family is everything and she doesn’t much care for anyone else at all. (It’s my personal opinion that if the other Noah weren’t into the whole Holy War thing, she’d give it up in a heartbeat.)

The Earl is confusing as shit, but I want to see more of him and learn more about him - about him, the past Earl, Mana, Neah, all of it. I also like him as he is now, and I’d like to see how his love of his family intersects with his apparent desire for destruction.

Jasdevi has a lot of potential too, surprisingly - they’re the most ‘teenager’ this series gets, and I think they’ve got a lot of character growth on the way. (I spilled pretty much all my Jasdevi thoughts in Licorice Rope, lmao. Though some of it was only implied.)

And the rest will need a bit more filling out before I’m real interested - yes, even Tyki. Oddly enough I’m not quite sold on him yet. *laugh*

I'm just baffled by how some people understand the danger and alienation people can face for refusing to have sex or date with someone--usually women (ESPECIALLY women of color) that refuse men, but don't grasp how revolutionary being ace/aro is. Like, these are people whose orientation literally challenges the systems of entitlement and "normal relationships" in a vein that divulges alongside (if not running parallel to) allo cis wlw and mlm but nah, definitely just straighties here.

exactly YES anon. there’s a very good post by @prokopetz about the positive (as in “behaviors that must be exhibited”) demands of heteronormativity that ace people do not meet that I think about a lot in discussions like this

anonymous asked:

I appreciate your sorting hat selections! I agree with Slytherin!cas, I always leaned towards Gryffindor!Dean but your explanation actually convinced me otherwise, and Sam I always saw as slytherin? His convictions are usually born out of this sort of 'I know what I'm doing is right you just don't see it yet' sort of mentality with the demon blood and BMOL. Mary is 100% gryffindor... all of the Campbells are.

I can see that.

The Slytherin!Sam thing bothers me because the way that I’ve seen it executed in the past is so dependent on this Sam/Lucifer parallel and the demon blood storyline, or Soulless!Sam. All of those hinge on some outer power FORCING ITSELF ON SAM, so I think it really overlooks some key aspects of Sam’s character.

I would love to read a fic where Sam gets sorted into Slytherin despite really wanting to go into Gryffindor (like Mom, like Dean wanted), only to befriend older Slytherin!Cas when he gets there. I think that has a lot of potential.

(Thank you for everything else! Welcome to Huffpuff club.)

I suppose I owe you a ‘thank you’ for getting me out of the lab every now and then.
Well now, we have husbands and kids.
But that doesn’t make our relationship any less important.

The parallel to end all parallels

Okay guys, listen up, because I’m about to fuck you up with some knowledge.

So we all know under Dabb’s reign, we’ve seen a multitude of parallels. Season 12 has been chock-full of callbacks from earlier seasons: characters, scenes, props, etc. We saw it with the colt, with Mary’s return, Bobby’s return, “[insert parent name here] went on a hunting trip, and [they] haven’t been home in a few days”. We’ve had Dean and Cas paralleled with Sam and Eileen, Dean and Cas paralleled with Cain and Colette, Dean referred to as Cas’s “human weakness” by Ishim…I mean really, at this point they’re endless. I could make hundreds of posts about the parallels, particularly in regard to Dean and Cas, but I won’t because frankly, there are better meta writers than me on the tumblrverse and they’ve already been done to death.

see @tinkdw and @ibelieveinthelittletreetopper, seriously those guys’ blogs have some seriously incredible information, metas, and I thoroughly enjoy reading literally everything they have to say.

What I want to talk about is Cas’s last scene in the finale. Here we see Cas enter the alternate universe, despite Sam and Dean already being there and having a plan for locking in Lucifer, and stabbing Lucifer, right before Cas’s death scene.

So I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about this scene and how Cas’s death was completely unnecessary and avoidable. That it was used strictly for the “man pain” we hear so much about, so we can watch the boys once again mourn the death of one of their friends. I agree, to an extent. His death absolutely was avoidable, also necessary because Destiel story arc, but here I believe Dabb knew what he was doing. Remember those parallels we talked about ^^?

So why? If Cas is coming back, like we now definitively know, why take the time and effort to include this scene? Because really, it was pointless. Lucifer could’ve killed Cas straight out of the portal without Cas ever entering, and it would’ve served the same purpose, and raised no questions. Because hey, shit happens, and Cas is almost always on the negatively receiving end of it. So why, Dabb? Why shoot this particular scene that seemingly makes no sense and had everyone questioning Cas’s intentions?

Come. Take my hand. Let me show you.

Dabb literally, intentionally, oh-so-deliberately, shot this scene:

To act as a parallel for this scene:

I REPEAT:

DABB DELIBERATELY SHOT THIS SCENE FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF DRAWING A PARALLEL BETWEEN SAM AND JESS AND CAS AND DEAN.

IT IS THE EXACT SAME SCENE. THE SAME STRUGGLE. ALMOST IDENTICAL DIALOGUE. THE SAME FUCKING FRAMING, FFS!

and before you say, no wait, your hopefulness, Jess doesn’t come back, this makes for a sad ending, stop, no, what are you doing??

YOU ARE MISSING THE BLATANTLY GAY POINT

Dabb recreated the first scene of the show with Dean and Cas. He intentionally paralleled Sam’s canonical relationship with his girlfriend to Dean’s canonical subtextual relationship with Cas.

Further, the scene with Sam and Jess marked the beginning of the series, the beginning of Sam rejoining his brother in the family business, but also the unfortunate end of his relationship with the woman he loved. If you look at this reversed (much in the same way Cain said to Dean about how he was living his life in reverse), that would mean that this could possibly be hinting at the end of the show, but also the beginning of Dean’s relationship with the man angel he loves.

I mean, I’m not saying that Destiel is endgame…but fuck. Destiel is endgame.

Oh my god, in last night’s Bob’s Burgers, Bob takes Gene to a laser light rock show at the planetarium (super important to Bob, because it was his favorite when he was a teenager, and this is the last night before they’re closing the exhibit because it’s old and no one goes anymore, also it’s Bob’s birthday), and Gene has no idea what he’s in for, but he gets pumped for it anyway ‘cause Bob’s so excited about it, and finally they get in there and they’re watching it, and Gene has a sensory overload and kinda starts freaking out ‘cause he can’t handle it, so Bob takes him out and they sit in the car for a bit.  Gene’s angry because Bob didn’t tell him it would be so loud and scary, so Bob offers to play the album for Gene at a normal volume, and Gene starts to enjoy it, so he reclines the seats, takes out the cigarette lighter, tells Gene to pretend it’s a laser, and starts drawing in the air, explaining the plot to him (it’s like a full on Pink Floyd or Rush-esque rock opera about a bunch of robot overlords telling rockers that they can’t play music anymore, and one Rebel rising against them).  Gene gets really into it and decides he wants to see the finale of the laser show (which Bob regards as a life-changing experience), so they sneak back into the planetarium (there’s no re-entry allowed) with a few tricks that parallel the story from the album, and watch the climax of the show together (Bob fashions some earplugs for Gene out of a napkin).  On the way home, Bob’s asking Gene how he liked it, and Gene says “I loved it!”, Bob asks him to speak louder ‘cause his ear’s are shot, and Gene yells, “I LOVED IT, DAD”.  Bob yells back “I love you too, Gene”.

I FUCKING!!! CAN’T!!! DEAL!!!! WITH HOW GOOD THIS SHOW IS!!! I know i don’t talk about Bob’s Burgers a lot but this show is flawless and charming and gross and funny all at the same time, the characters are written like people with actual fears and anxieties, and unlike a lot of comparable shows, the comedy doesn’t come from the family being pitted against each other, it’s always the family against the world… I love it, I love it, it’s so pure and refreshing and still somehow manages to be funny without sacrificing it’s heart, and I fuckin’ love it, please watch Bob’s Burgers holy CRAP okay I’m done.

I have some opinions/thoughts that I’d really love to get off my chest even if other people think I’m completely wrong.

Gaston did not deserve to die, Gaston was hardly a bad person, Gaston was basically forced into being the villian of this story.

[I’m referring to the 2017 remake of BATB rather than the original animation.]

Let’s point out some difference between the 1991 Gaston and 2017 Gaston
-2017 Gaston was not a misogynist
-did not abuse Lefou
-even verbally
-Like for fucksakes, the friendship between Lefou and Gaston was so genuine. I’m frequently seeing these things around Gafou is an abusive ship, buts it’s really not? He tells Lefou ‘thank you’ says ‘you’re the best Lefou’ sincerely asks ‘how has no woman snatched you up?’, messes around with Lefou like buds (wrestling bite marks, picking him up to demonstrate strength, gets on the table and dances with him), let’s Lefou calm him down and boop his nose, and not once does he insult or hurt even when it seemed like he would (after Lefou wrapped his arms around him, or when he couldn’t spell his name, when he said ‘who needs her when you’ve got us’, etc). They’re sincerely good, close friends, but don’t worry I’m not ignoring all the shitty things Gaston did to Lefou I will get to that in a second.
-I said he’s not a misogynist, right? Cause that’s important. Big step away from the OG.
-Doesn’t insult Belle for reading
-Instead he feigns interest in the book because he knows it’s her interest
-even brings her flowers, whataguy
-Has manners (“excuse me, please let me through” going through the crowd, didn’t push everyone out of his way)
-Goes to her rescue when the town’s people are being mean (sure this is because he wanted to be the hero to seduce her, but seriously he was one of the few people who didn’t harass or bully Belle for being different)
-Doesn’t call Maurice crazy and instead offers his help to soothe the men (again, seduction, but seriously he’s still being polite and helping the underdog unlike the OG)

I’ll probably think of more things to add to this Gaston-wasnt-an-asshole list but I think this basically gets the point across that, well, Gaston wasn’t an asshole. He was immensely vain, yes, but that doesn’t mean he was a bad person.
Cus ya know who else started out incredibly vain but still managed to be the fucking prince in this story?
Yep, the Beast/Adam of course.

Time to do some comparing of the prince and the villian because spoiler alert, they basically parallel each other.

I’ll begin this part with Belle’s comment of, “No one can change THAT much, Gaston”
Ahem

LITERALLY SHUT THE FUCK UP ARE YOU SERIOUS
This line pissed me off immensely, because that’s literally Adam’s entire character arc, changing himself completely, literally and figuratively.

Like I’m sorry you wanna do a repeat of the song “Something there” aka the song where the lyrics are basically “he was an asshole brute who I hated but now he’s c h a n g e d”
Literally so pissed off at that all.

But as I was saying, Gaston basically mirrors Adam’s arc, meaning to say they’re practically the same character things going on but sorta reversed.

Like okay
-Upon first meeting Belle, the Beast locks her father then her in a tower and is a huge dick but then they bond over books and he gives her flowers and he’s nice to her.
-Upon first interacting with Belle, Gaston is nice to her, gives her flowers, tries to bond over books, but then he’s a huge dick and locks her father and then her in a cart.

Do you see what I did there? Literally the same actions, but backwards.

Let’s do some more comparing.
-They both have terrible, terrible tempers.
But you know what? The Beasts is definitely a lot worse than Gaston’s.

Let’s review how both Gaston and Adam dealt with Belle’s dinner rejection
-Beast: literally motherfucking demands she has dinner with him, bangs his paws on the door, scrEAMS at her, and then announces she can starve if she won’t eat with him
-Gaston: [not direct quotes, can’t remember exact words but basically what he says] “oh, busy?” nope “okay, then some other time?” boom that’s that. Yeah he still is persistent on winning her over even after this rejection but the man handled it a lot better then Adam (and he brought flowers for her dinner table).

I’m about to move on from Adam and start talking about how Gaston treated Lefou in a sec, but I would just really really really like to put some emphasis on the fact that both Adam and Gaston were incredibly narcissistic men. The amount of self pride and conceded they have is in the beginning is completely parallel and it leads to both of their unfortunate fates. The point in this, is Gaston is not a bad guy just because he loves himself a bit much, just as the Beast was not a bad guy for loving himself too much. Like, the way Adam turns down Agatha for being ugly seems exactly like something Gaston would do, so why does the movie end with Gaston dying while the Beast learns his lesson and gets his happily ever after?
Because, the OG Gaston was truly an asshole who deserved to die and this 2017 remake of course had to stay true to the story. Even though this Gaston really wasn’t a true villian and didn’t deserve to die – rather he deserves a redemption arc just as Adam was given – he died anyway because that’s how the story goes.

Anyway, I’ll get on with this and bring back Lefou.

Some of you have probably been reading this while thinking “But Marley [das my name], Gaston was a shitty person, he wasn’t a good friend to Lefou at all because he manipulated him, let him get punched in the face, didn’t protect him at all, and threatened to lock him up. Plus, he was only into Belle because she’s pretty.”

Alright alright alright: Lefou.
He’s an exceedingly important character as he gives us insight to Gaston’s character.
Two crucial things he reveals about Gaston … .

-Gaston has anger issues. My father has anger issues, and so do I, and we both are on meds for it. Let me say, having anger management problems and getting angry are very different things. It’s just like he having anxiety and getting nervous are very different things. I think most of you can probably relate or understand anxiety more then anger issues, so just put yourself in Gaston’s shoes with that in mind. Anyway, back to Lefou. He shows us that Gaston has anger issues when he rushes to Gaston’s aid by saying “deep breathes” and then “think about the war”. He tells us that Gaston has coping mechanisms for when he gets like this. Does it matter if Gaston has anger problems? Does it make him less of a dick? Like, seriously Marley, does this information really make up for any of the things he did? Yes, yes it does matter. It’s like when you/someone your love is having an anxiety attack, or when you fall into a depressive episode, or when a loved one acts out of PTSD [which Gaston could totally completely have], or when someone with schizophrenia or delusions starts having episodes, it’s basically exactly like whenever anyone’s mental illness starts to act up. You don’t feel like yourself and you don’t so things you would normally do. This is definitely the case for Gaston; he acts out of character when he gets angry like this. And that’s my second point that Lefou proves in this movie.

-Gaston is not being himself when he starts doing all that terrible shit that leads him to his demise. Lefou makes it fairly obvious that that is not how Gaston usually acts. He does this in numerous ways which I will quickly try to summarize and go through:
1) Questions Gaston. Obviously if Gaston often tied up old men to trees or in general left people to die, Lefou would have just went with it instead of going “are you sure?”
2) doesn’t immediately lie to save Gaston’s ass. Again, if Gaston frequently had Lefou lie for him, then it would have came to Lefou like second nature and he wouldn’t have hesitated.
3) Once more, questioning Gaston. The scene I’m about to refer to is when Gaston locks Belle and her father in the carriage. Lefou grabs Gaston’s arm and goes to question him again, but before he can Gaston threatens to lock him up as well. Dick move on Gastons end, no? But this isn’t something he would normally do or say to Lefou, for if it was Lefou wouldn’t have bothered speaking up because he would have known what Gaston’s reaction would be. Instead, Lefou is used to being able to talk sense into Gaston and reason with him (refer back to nose boop scene).
4) Running to Gaston’s side for protection during the fight [castle scene]. Lefou is probably used to having Gaston protect him during fights (war time) and obviously didn’t expect Gaston to throw him to the enemy. Like, yous guys heard him shriek Gaston’s name before the piano fell on him, right? He was obviously expecting Gaston to rescue him. Even after he’s trapped under the piano, he still reaches and calls out for Gaston. The way Gaston is acting is not the Gaston he knows.
5?) “I was on Gaston’s side, but we are so in a bad place right now” [however he says it you know the line I’m referring to]. Aight I think this is the one line that really captures the point I’m trying to make. Lefou has switched sides because Gaston is being a major douchebag and Lefou’s not having it. Lefou doesn’t put up with being treated like shit [MrsPotts saying he deserves better and Lefou agreeing]. So o b v i o u s l y Lefou is not used to Gaston being so cruel and angry. If Gaston treated Lefou like this all the time, then Lefou wouldn’t be by his side [because he left his side once he started acting like this]. Lefou knows how he should be treated, and how he’s being treated is not what he’s used to.
You dig what I’m saying? I’m kinda rushing through these points because I’m getting tired of this.

*deep breathe* Alright, last point, as I mentioned above, ‘Gaston only wanted Belle because she was beautiful’ Alright alright alright I’m not even going to talk about the Gaston in this point, I’m just going to talk about the huge flaw that is Beauty and the Beast.

Adam is turned into the Beast because he needs to learn to not judge people by how they look, he needs to learn that it’s what’s on the inside that matters.
Right.
So why is Belle the one that learns this lesson?
Adam falls in love with a gorgeous girl, meanwhile Belle falls in love with a hideous monster who turns into a nice dude on the inside.
Belle is the character who learned to not judge a book by its cover [cover being a monsterous beast but inside he is a gorgeous prince].
As soon as Belle walked into the castle, all the furniture was like “yooooo she could be the one, master hit her up” and instantly Adam’s like “well I need a girl to fall in love with to break my curse and she cute yeah let’s do it”. Like of course there’s more to our then this, but what I’m trying to say is Adam had already planned to try to charm Belle before he knew what kind of person he was because he was desperate to break the curse.
So he and everyone in the castle just saw her and was like “she was a girl, he was a boy, can I make it anymore obvious?”
So anyway anyway anyway, Gaston was only interested in Belle because she was beautiful and he wanted a wife, but Beast was only interested in Belle because she was beautiful and could break the spell. See the parallels again? Like, Beast later fell in love with Belle for who she was and she made him a better person, Gaston could have totally done the same thing.
And okay, there’s no proof Beast cared that Belle was beautiful or not, but yo, Disney definitely should have made Belle ugly af so when Adam met her the snob in him would have been “ew she’s ugly, next” and then Lumiere and Mrs. Potts woulda been like “boi Imma whoop yo ass if you don’t give that girl a try, I don’t care how fucked up her teeth are smfh” and then Adam would have learned the lesson that the enchantress was trying to school him about in the first place [this applies to the 1991 animated film, not directly at the 2017 btw]

Well I was trying to keep this professional and moreso eloquently written but you can tell I’m coming out of my cage and I’ve been doing just fine gotta gotta be down because I want it all

Okay okay okay
Okay okay
Okay

I believe we’re nearing the end. I believe I’ve said all I needed to say made all the points I could [honestly definitely not because I’m constantly thinking about this and arguing with no one in my head, I have a lot to say and later I’ll be making toast and be like “anD ONE MORE THING”]

I’m very upset Gaston died because he wasn’t a terrible enough character to deserve death.

So Dear Disney, either make Gaston more of a shitty person, or bring him back to life. I’ll be waiting for an apology letter until this is done.

Of course I’m kidding.

I just have such a love and passion for Gaston and I’m truly sick of hearing people tell me that Gafou is an abusive ship and Gaston is a villian.

And if you refuse to see that Gaston wasn’t a bad guy but still believe that Adam is such a prince than you’re insanely hypocritical.

People just see what they want to see.

Also I’m terribly sorry for making this so diddly damn long, I honestly have no idea how to do the cutoff “Show more” thing, I’m on mobile. So sorry if you’re trying to rapidly scroll past all of this and it’s taking forever.

But honestly fuck you don’t scroll past my argument.

And also if you legit read all this then motherfucking congratulations to you. Like I don’t even want to read all of this shit to edit it.

Thanks for the attention. Marley OUTT

  • the clip starts with eva talking about causeries: humorous written piece that, in english, can be referred to as “talk of the town”. eva says she’s not good at it while noora says she doesn’t even know what it is. 👀👀👀
  • even before sana starts focusing on the carrot munching, from the very first second of the clip, the audio has a slight echo to it. which could just be the staircase in which they’re in but i’d think that the team would fix it in post-prod. i feel like they left it because it gives a daydreaming quality to the scene and sana’s pov. from the start, she’s not really listening.

  • i’ve seen people comment that noora is eating too loudly, that’s not what it is.
firstly: have you ever managed to eat a carrot silently? and secondly: the shot is to show how much sana is annoyed by noora now. when you hate someone, you tend to find every single thing they do annoying. suddenly, they breathe too loud, eat too loud, are just generally gross.
  • in my attempt to find out if there was a word for this phenomenon other than misophonia (as i understand it, misophonia is when you’re hypersensitive to certain sounds regardless of the context or person…i was looking for a word for when it happens only when you hate someone), i discovered a video of 5mn of carrot munching noises. here it is if you want to die.

  • sana looks outside at sara, vilde, and laila and…

  • as sana focuses on noora and eva joining the group, she tunes out the noise around her just as when in prayer or when she was looking at yousef’s facebook profile. it seems that the music from sigur rós is used here as it was used in the other focusing scenes.
  • isak literally gets his nose into other people’s business (and i feel that almost everyone noticed immediately, despite how little of the frame it takes, because of the reading sense)

Some Warrior cats fan art. Inspired by the @warriorsredux ’s series. I like the realistic reimagining! They parallel with a lot of my own head cannons. Though I took a little creative liberty here because I just can’t imagine gentle Spottedleaf without some white on her XD.

Based on the prologue when Spottedleaf and Bluestar are looking for answers. I also put a shooting star reflected in there eyes, as a nod to the original series when Spottedleaf interprets a shooting star as the “Fire alone will save our clan” prophecy from Starclan.

#two very different relationships for shaw yet both so important #they both loved her so much but in different ways (one platonically and the other romantically) and its big because for someone that always thought something was wrong with her and no one would ever take the time to GET her #she ended up gaining two people that legit would’ve died for her and vice versa #they BOTH understood her and never judged her and loved her exactly the way she was #not to mention root and reese’s love for her even helped THEM bond in a way that made them start to care about each other #i just have a lot of feelings about these three tbh

on allura and the castleship

So like the show often stresses that Allura is needed in the castle to run it, since it’s linked up to her quintessence. Coran seems to be able to pilot it to an extent in a fix (like when Allura and Keith ran off in that pod), but it looks like the castle doesn’t have its full range of weapons and abilities without her. Including wormholing, which is like. A really big deal.

With Shiro likely to be gone from the team for at least a little while, we’re probably going to need someone to pilot one of the lions. But with all that about Allura and the castle in mind, the question is: can Allura actually pilot a lion at all?

It turns out we might actually already have an answer: it depends on Slav. Because the castleship’s probably going to get some sort of an upgrade next season.

Slav’s already shown shitting on the castle during his first scene in it, which is a fun hint of what could be coming. Allura and Coran have said it several times throughout the series: the castle’s old. Its technology is almost definitely outdated, if Slav’s complaints are any indication, and it breaks down often, to the point where it doing so is a major plot point in season 2. Compared to its Galra counterparts, which have 10000 years worth of technological advancement on their side, the castleship is probably the equivalent of bringing like. a pointy stick to a knife fight.

But now they have the means to update it.

Does the second half of S4 parallel S1?

it’s strange because the first half of season 4 had A LOT of parallels of season 3 but now this second half?

The more I think about it, the more it parallels season 1, so here we go.

Losing Friends

Vs.

Just like Eva Sana is feeling alone and out of touch with the people she loves the most. She doesn’t know how to fix the rift…so she doesn’t, but still she wants to so bad. she misses them and watching them from afar because she no longer can belong with them…is tearing her apart. Just like Eva in season 1.

Social media rubbing their new friends in their faces

vs

we then get a true sense of the isolation between the two when they both sit at home alone and watch their friends…literally replace them. That’s what it feels like for both Eva and Sana. and after they both see these social media posts and drives them to get up and do something about it. “don’t let yourself be a victim” as doctor phil says to Eva and “don’t live in fear” as Nas tells Sana…it’s too similar and I love it

Benchy Buddies

vs.

Not only are they both sitting on the same bench, with the same person, on THE SAME SIDE, but it is insane that Isak has served as a focal point in both of their painful dramas of secrets. in Eva’s season Isak revealed her lies to Iben, in Sana’s….Isak still revealed Sara’s lies by Sana getting access of them from Isak’s account. so essentially the truth came out and disaster happened because of Isak in both seasons…w i l d

Trying to muster up the courage to make things better

vs

I talked about this shot earlier today but oh my god I can’t believe how similar they are. The only difference is the change in time and the main character. This shows how 3 seasons later we are still in the same place. but this time with Sana. How we all feel isolation, misunderstanding and shame and how it never goes away. It is forever and it comes with being human. no matter who you are we all feel this pain, fear, and sadness. Both Eva and Sana felt like outsiders in their school.

Confiding in someone about their mistake right before it hits them in the face

vs

Just like Eva, Sana could not hold it in anymore and chose to confide in someone about the saranors2 account. Just like Isak (but with purer intentions) Chris advised Sana to not tell. I actually find this parallel really cool because in season 1 Eva was scared of losing Jonas and Jonas not forgiving her but in this scene Sana is actually afraid of Eva never forgiving her. It is like we have gone full circle in skam world. Eva has gone from the girl begging for forgiveness from her mistakes to…being the one who needs to do the forgiving… hmm

Voicemail

vs

wow, so we have literally gone from season 1 where Eva is calling Isak after the reveal and getting voicemail, to Sana calling EVA after the reveal and getting voicemail. I think this was very intentional.

Pain

vs

Eva and Sana both get told that the people they love are incredibly heartbroken with them right now in a very similar way. Both with other people involved (Isak and Chris) and both with a phone…and then they break knowing that forgiveness is not going to be easy and they are both alone. They both fucked up and now they are alone and it is heartbreaking.

what does this s1 parallel mean?

Season 1 was the beginning, Season 4 is the end. The parallels are evident and I think it is because Julie wants to remind us why she made skam. Reminding us what it’s really about. I know with the girl squads current behaviour it doesn’t make sense just yet, but it will. and I wonder if this is also reflecting on Eva’s character now? She has gone from the character who we are crying with and hoping to god she can make friends and be happy to….being the girl we are screaming at to listen to Sana and FORGIVE HER.

which is amazing because Julie is doing what skam has always meant to do.

she is showing us every single side, corner, and edge of every character on this show. By doing this to Eva though is even more powerful because she was our first main. she is our firstborn who’s pov we all witnessed and now Julie is showing how we all make mistakes, we all get mad, we all are the person who needs to forgive, or the person who needs to talk. and each of these characters have had a turn to be each other if you think about it.

Because now it’s Eva’s turn to be season 1 Ingrid…who needs to stop, and listen to what Sana has to say as they cry and forgive each other <3

ok so that new clip, to me, just confirms my theories and even takes them a step further:

  • isak is sana’s mirror
  • the similarities are highlighted so much it’s suspicious
  • i still think yousef will not be the love interest, ultimately (sana likes him, no doubt, but i’m still not convinced he likes her like that)
  • because even and isak’s journey so far is paralleled a lot in sana’s story
  • but julie knows how to use parallels, both to foreshadow and surprise us
  • in s3, we had a ton of r+j parallels very early on which led people to think isak or even was going to die or their couple would end tragically
  • but in the end we got a “pretty woman” ending
  • the parallels were there to set us up for something and eventually surprise us by twisting the ending
  • so i think julie is setting us up here for an evak-style yousana
  • girl likes boy, girl looks at him from afar, boy seems flirty, theyll end up together and happy and the boy will be all doe-eyed and “i noticed you immediately”
  • but that’s not what we will get
  • i’m not sure WHAT we’ll get eventually but i really think julie is setting us up here so she can surprise us, pull the rug
  • and the mikael thing is partly a distraction, partly a blatant plot point: but not the one we’re expecting
  • we’re expecting mikael to be a huge subplot with even
  • i think it is a subplot with even but i also think mikael will become very important in sana’s primary plot
  • mikael is taking more and more space in sana’s environment
  • just in that “yousef” clip, it was more actually about mikael
  • and when sana was staring at his pictures, we got the camera move up to mikael
  • sana is not looking directly at him but he is there, and he is taking more and more space in her literal and metaphorical visual field
  • and that julie is distracting us because she knew we would recognise mikael, mari “accidentally” made yousef’s fb public before the trailer so we “accidentally” saw the pictures of the balloon squad with mikael
  • this fandom is an internet one, they know this
  • this is not a TV show where active fandom online is not addressed or only in jokes, SKAM built its entire marketing on the internet
  • julie herself said “if you knew how hard it’s been to keep you on your toes”
  • julie is distracting us by waving mikael as an evak subplot right at us
  • while in the background, she’s setting him up to be a big part of the main sana plot
  • she’s showing us all these parallels between evak and yousana
  • but there is parallel and there is copy
  • and so far it’s bordering on a copy of the evak plot and that’s suspicious
  • i do believe in a happy ending with a happy sana
  • but i don’t believe it’ll be a yousana one

an innocent boy deceived by a man promising him a chance to be something more, who swam for his life with death looming so close he could taste it, feel its hooks still clasped around his burning throat, homeless and deprived of family….received by the cold streets of the barrel, a place where he developed a lock pick mind, a scheming face, a new family, and a taste for revenge. sounds a lot like kaz, but I mean wylan
