i like that it has the physics and these moments in it

I think something a lot of people dont realize is that you can be intelligent and stupid at the same time. You can understand complex quantum physics and conduct wickedly difficult experiments and understand them but like. You can also say things like “what if the sky was the ground? thatd be fuckin weird, right?”
An issue it seems like the RT/AH community has had for ages is that people compare Slo Mo Guys Gavin to Achievement Hunter Gavin and they think one is a facade. But like. Just because you ask silly questions or you confuse yourself doesnt automatically mean youre a complete idiot. The smartest of people can have dumb moments. You cant expect someone to be a perfect genius 24/7, you really cant.
So instead of saying like “is Gavin secretly a moron?”, just realize that he’s a fucking human being, he’s more complex than a one dimensional personality. He can easily be crazy smart and also ask some of the most ridiculous questions and still be 1000% valid, jesus Christ

  1. Working from home means making sure the mic is muted on the video chat before you start singing. Forget this at your peril.
  2. I’m traveling to my cousin’s wedding later today, and the packing list has, in order: guitar stuff, running stuff, swimsuit, chargers, other clothes, toiletries. Priorities.
  3. I splurged on a lens today. Shorter, faster, red ring—this is grownup glass. Daddy wants to see the stars better. Clock’s ticking.
  4. These moments where I stand back and take in this madness unfolding around us happen more often now. Catches my breath. Like, how?
  5. I’m going to finish this book about the physics of time this weekend. I expect the science-y dreams to continue. Better that than the other dream themes (failure, regret, squander) of the last couple decades amirite.

Happy 74th birthday to Stephen Hawking!

Not a year has gone past when Stephen Hawking’s achievements, both in terms of science and popular culture, have not made global headlines.
His work has revolutionized theoretical physicis and cosmology, made him the Commander of the Order of the British Empire and earned the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, all while his body suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Here are some of his great thoughts and moments:

“Some people would claim that things like love, joy and beauty belong to a different category from science and can’t be described in scientific terms, but I think they can now be explained by the theory of evolution.”

“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.”

“We are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity. We cannot remain looking inwards at ourselves on a small and increasingly polluted and overcrowded planet.”

“It is a waste of time to be angry about my disability. One has to get on with life and I haven’t done badly. People won’t have time for you if you are always angry or complaining.”

“I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first.”

Okay, I want everyone to take a moment to think about Mako and Ami as science class partners.

Now, Mako isn’t very school-smart most of the time, and I’d imagine most of the math and physics stuff goes right over her head. But chemistry? That’s a whole lot like cooking. And the plant side of biology clicks with her instantly.

Ami is mostly the reverse, math is second nature to her, and wanting to be a doctor means she’s had an ongoing interest in animal biology. She’s good at Mako’s strong points, too (and likely academically far better), but Mako brings something extra she can’t get from textbooks. They balance each other out perfectly.

As Finley reached the final numbers in his countdown he heard a voice speak up on his right.

Ava: “Hellooo, anyone in there? I’m Ava, you know, if you want to chat?”

Finley: “Oh, sorry. I’m Finley. I was just thinking about, em..”

He didn’t want to say he’d actually been thinking about.

Finley: “…Astrophysics. I like science.”

I like science?! What a lame thing to say. Finley cursed his social anxieties.

Ava: “Wow, that’s awesome! I haven’t branched out into astrophysics yet, but space has always fascinated me. At the moment, I’m more into chemistry, particularly compounds.”

Finley couldn’t believe what he was hearing, this was someone he could actually have a conversation with, about the one topic that he could discuss confidently.

Finley: “I used to really like chemistry when I was younger, but I’ve moved onto physics more recently.”

The pair continued to discuss the finer details of their favourite topics, whilst the couple on the other side of the room grew progressively more flirty.

I think one thing I really love about brainstorm is that, and this might be some of his fandom characterization bleeding into my perception of him,
But the fact that he’s obviously a genius- this has been proven tons of times- but he’s still kind of a goof. He’s not the uptight science and logic are the only emotions I feel trope and I just love that so much. He obviously really cares about other bots (as we can see with chromedome and quark) so he also doesn’t fall into that detached and cold genius trope either and I just really love him so much? He’s just so full of life and animated and he cares so much about other bots and throws himself completely into whatever is gaining his attention at the moment.

Like I can see him taking a selfie and adding emojis to it one second and doing quantum physics the next and hot dang if that isn’t a fun character????
