Why are u anti tog? I want to read those books bc they are very popular but idk
oh man there are so many things i just don’t like about the series.
for me (and many people, honestly) it’s hella problematic. my biggest issue is the ridiculous lack of diversity in characters. there are no pocs, and if there are they are super sidelined. there is no lgbt character except for side characters that aren’t really characters (i’m referring to a pair in the third book. i didn’t read past the third because i got sick of it but apparently there is another side lesbian pair i think in fourth or fifth book?)
on top of that, the main character just bugs me. it’s her characteristics and the way that for some reason, all the crap she’s done in the past is forgiven (especially by rowan, who is a later love interest). chaol felt uncomfortable being with her, which i thought was warranted? she’s an assassin who has brutally murdered many people, and he’s the captain of the royal guard (who had never killed anyone i think? which is also weird tbh). people who are also upset and blame chaol don’t make any sense to me because if you were in his shoes, wouldn’t you be a little freaked that the person you are falling for was/is a murderer? so him doubting or being freaked out by aelin makes him the bad guy in the book, while the abusive sex-freak rowan is put on some sort of throne for being quality boyfriend material because he tells aelin what she did in the past is excusable because she had a rough childhood.
this does not excuse her being an assasin, kids.
and here’s the thing with writing a character like aelin (or the types of relationships sjm writes): it’s one thing to write a character that is shitty, and another to write a shitty character. if the author is writing a character that is meant to not be the best, that is meant to be cruel, judgemental, close-minded, etc, they need to be aware that they are writing a character that is not a great person.the author needs to realize that they are writing a character like that so readers, especially young and impressionable readers, understand that this kind of character or relationship or whatever is not a gold standard.
when it comes to aelin, or rowan, or chaol, or all the relationships that keep popping out from that series, they are not examples of decency or healthy relationships.unfortunately, it seems that sjm loves her characters the way they are, and hence, you, as a reader, are made to love them too. if you don’t, you’re the bad guy. and that’s messed up.
the author is problematic and lacks the sense to understand that the types of things she is writing are not good. like i said, when writing a problematic relationship or character, the author needs to be aware of the fact that they are writing that. then they can portray to readers that ‘hey, this isn’t a good thing! but this is what is happening in my story right now’
me: yeah i mean, i get youre not directly hurting the stim community but encouraging kink/cgl/cglre/etc into a safe space for a lot of people, many who are minors, is gross. i get you have your own free will and opinions but talking to me about why it’s not gross for you and how you arent cgl yourself, doesn’t make it better
me: i mean, okay thanks for vaguing but whatever. you’re still gross tho
I feel you about people always saying shit when others don't get tickets. I feel that at the concert as well especially if you're close to barrier. There is always such a divide it's disgusting. They will try to act all buddy buddy when in line but once you get inside they made smart little remarks like all these people have seen them before why don't they let other get a chance like every time I go I try for a different spot in crowd to see which is the most fun. like just so ugh lol
i just legit dont understand why people care, like 100% the people who get tickets dont make fun of people who cant or are negative at them in general i just ???? if a person has seen a band lots of times i can assure u that theyre doing it bc its one thing that makes them happy and if u think its bad theyre going on their own blog and posting bc theyre upset they havent got a ticket for an important show………….that person probably has invested a lot of time and emotion into a band and its disappointing
