i know i already made a post about this

“Villainous”: Why you shouldn’t  throw hate to this show

Okay, so over the past days you may noticed a lot of fanart and posts about a particular show: “Villainous” (or “Villanos” in spanish). This is actually a mini series that is transmited between comercials for Cartoon Network México. Is about a villain (Black Hat) who tries to make the most evil and succesful artefacts for villains, along with Dr Flug, Demencia and 5.0.5.

So, what’s the problem with this mini-series?

There’s a few flaws that people have been complaining about, the most important of those being Markiplier voicing 5.0.5, a problematic artist (LemonTeaFlower) working on this show, etc.

Ignoring those facts, “Villainous” is pretty funny and entertaining to watch, and the animation and art style is really good. Is not the humour that everybody likes, but I personally enjoy it. But actually neither the characters or the plot are the reason im encouraging you to support this show.

This is the first ever cartoon (for Cartoon Network) created entirely by mexicans.

As a mexican, I can’t describe how happy I am to know that my country is finally making big steps in the animation industry, this is a huge opportunity for people like me, who aspire to be an animator but don’t have the resources to get out of their country.

And, if this show gets enough positivity and fame, Ai Studios, the animation studios who made this show, might actually do more cartoons! Better cartoons, with better plots and characters!

Let me tell you something, if Ai Studios doesn’t start making more cartoons, there’s literally no job opportunity in Mexico for aspiring animators. You either go to the U.S or forget about animation.

And yeah, this show might seem cringey, (well, it started developing in 2007, what did you expect?) and as I said it has some problematic aspects, but I dont think this is the right time to start making callout posts and discourse blogs for this cartoon. It hasn’t even aired in the U.S yet and there are already pleople complaining. And I don’t blame them, I would callout those things too if I didn’t already know how important this show is for Ai Studios, how important this show is for mexicans.

Many of the people who complain about it don’t even know that this show is made by mexicans and the opportunities it could give to us. So, what i’m asking you to do is simple.

Don’t throw hate at this show.

I’m not asking you to praise it, I’m not asking you to make fanart for it. I’m asking you to leave it alone, and leave alone the people who are enjoying it.

How can we do better if you don’t even give us the opportunity to make more cartoons?

So yeah, that’s basically it. I’m not saying everyone should watch it and enjoy it, I mean, if you want to do it go ahead. I’m just saying it would be kind of egoistical to make discourse blogs and callout posts for the first mexican cartoon made by a new animation studio that just came out 3 days ago.

Let us have this, please.

look at me - i will never pass for a perfect bride

so i know i already made a retold mulan post but i just LOVE MULAN SO MUCH so here’s another

in the original myth mulan isn’t really a clumsy fish out of water. she’s strong and smart and the reason she goes to war is because she’s the most qualified person in her family to fight, regardless of gender.

so how about this: mulan’s a fighter. she knows exactly who she is, like in the original myth, she’s knows how to be the blossoming flower and the great stone dragon. she’s still mulan though, so she still doesn’t memorize the silly ways she’s supposed to be a good wife and has little patience for appearing graceful while pouring tea. she’s innovative and courageous and beautiful, but no one is under any illusions about what kind of wife she’ll be.

and the matchmaker is the matchmaker for the li family as well, for this great big part of china. and general li wants his son to be married before he goes off to war, wants his son to have a reason to fight to live, like a wife waiting for him. and the matchmaker reads the stars and the tea leaves and the astrology charts, and no matter what all the signs point to one thing: the honorable li shang is destined to marry the insolent, arrogant fa mulan.

the matchmaker isn’t going to let that happen, she refuses to be responsible for that disaster of a wedding. so she sends her most beautiful girls, the ones that are obedient and quiet and know their roles, the ones that are eager to marry into the li family.

and each of them are entertained and met and sent back. shang is many things, but smooth isn’t one of them, he has nothing to say to these quiet girls who smile at him, feels large and awkward around their polite smiles. so he and his father go to the matchmaker’s village, shang reluctantly and his father to demand she stops messing with them and provides a proper bride.

it’s on the day that mulan and the other girls are parading in the street. shang sees a girl - mulan - hurry into the end of the line, jumping over a bench and darting around a careening wagon to get there, and stifles a laugh.

then there’s no reason to laugh at all, because a group of huns have decided that this village is in their way, and attack.

everyone scatters, women hide, children hide, and most of the men do too. shang and his father join the fight with some of the other men who hadn’t hid, and these men are starved, clearly not with shan yu, so even though they’re outnumbered they’ll likely win.

shang sees a hun go to attack the girl he’d seen earlier, the girl for whatever reason hadn’t run and hid. the hun raises a sword above his head to strike her down, and shang is so sure he’s about to see this pretty girl lose her head.

but she doesn’t. instead she rolls out of the way, and pops up, headbutting him in the stomach. she takes his sword from his now-slack grip and plunges it into his chest. without hesitation or pause the girl joins the fight, swinging the sword expertly and cutting down every man who stands against her. soon they’re fighting back to back, and shang has never felt more in sync with another person. she cuts off the head of the last hun, and shang has never seen anyone more beautiful than this girl, dress ripped and make up smudged and covered in blood that isn’t hers.

“mulan,” one of the other girls says, peaking out of a store front, “is it over?”

the girl, mulan, looks out over the dozen dead men and says, grimly, “it’s barely begun.” she searches the crowd, finding and old man and yelling, “gather the bodies, we’ll burn that at dusk outside of the village. everyone else,” her eyes sweep across the gathered people, and shang is struck by the fact that this girl isn’t well liked. there’s anger and disapproval in many of the faces, but they’re listening. these people don’t like her. but they do trust her. “let’s clean this all up. these were bandits, not soldiers. there’s nothing more to fear.”

“what if there are more?” the other girl asks, arms wrapped around herself.

mulan raises her stolen sword and says, “then i will slice them to ribbons. this is our village, and this is our country. any who would try to take it from us - from me - will suffer the consequences.”

and it shouldn’t be comforting, hearing words of violence from this young girl, yet everyone around them relaxes, and gets moving, gather the bodies and tending the wounded.

“who are you?” his father asks, and someone who doesn’t know him might think he was angry, but shang can tell he’s impressed.

mulan turns to them and bows, “my apologies. i am fa mulan, daughter of fa zhou. thank you for helping us.” she stands, and shang meets her eyes for the first time.

he swallows, and blurts out, “you - you fight good.”

his father coughs to hide his laughter, but mulan’s eyes crinkle at the corners. “thank you. you do as well.”

and they just keep standing there smiling at each other until his father claps his hands and is like okay - they’ll have to report this to the emperor, no time to dawdle, have to go now.

so they take their leave, and shang thinks this is the last time he’ll see fa mulan.

except there’s still the draft, and this time mulan doesn’t take no for an answer, won’t hear of it. her father is injured and old and she is young and fit to fight. she will go in his place.

so she arrives at the camp, prepared to pretend and lie - except she goes to meet her commanding officer and it’s him, that boy who had fought with her. shang’s eyes widen, but they’re in front of too many people. he can see it on her face, her fear, and she hadn’t shown any fear when she was facing down over a dozen huns, but she does now. so he makes his choice and says nothing, pretends he buys her story.

she tracks him down that night and demands an explanation. he says this war is too important to kill good warriors, whatever gender they are. he swears to keep her secret. mulan is his best soldier from the beginning, and means to treat her like anyone else, but it’s impossible. she isn’t like anyone else, is strong and smarter and braver than them. they argue tactics, and she’s the only one who can give him a workout in hand to hand, and he doesn’t have trouble finding his words with her. he finds himself falling in love with her, but doesn’t say anything. she’s not here for love, she’s here for a war. he vows to say something if they survive this, but it’s unlikely that will happen.

they head to the front earlier. they get there in time to provide back up for his father and his army, and it’s a loss but not a slaughter. his father is too distracted to notice ping is the girl from the village. all he knows is this soldier had led the second wave of attacks, and it was thanks to her any of them were alive at all. they prevent half of the huns from getting through the pass, but that’s still an army heading for the imperial city. the general is injured, so mulan and shang lead the army after him.

they find him at the mountain, and just like before mulan uses the cannon to destroy the army. she knew it would spell their death, but it was worth it, for her people, for her country, for her family. this time it’s shang that won’t accept her death, that tries to drag her unconscious body to safety. only he fails, and mulan becomes buried under the snow.

they return to the city, and shang is besides himself - the woman he loves is dead, she saved them all and she’s gone, and he’ll never recover from this. only he can’t tell his father this, their friends. they think he mourns a friend, not the woman he wanted to make his wife.

except mulan survives, and sees the other huns as well. only she kills them there before they can get to the city, and decides this is for the best. fa ping dies honorably in battle, and fa mulan is free to return home to her family.

so general li decides that it’s time to go to that matchmaker again, and demand she stop playing games. the matchmaker confesses that she thought the bride was unsuitable, and the general demands she send her anyway.

so mulan has barely had the chance to settle back home when the matchmaker shows up at her door saying she’s sending her to see a potential husband, but not who. so mulan shows up all made up to li household and shang drags himself into the room, already resigned to a loveless marriage, when they see each other. “mulan?” he demands, and his father is all pleased because it’s the fighting girl from the village.

but then his son starts crying and they run to each other. shang picks her up in his arms and she clings to him, and shang is babbling about how he thought she was dead, and mulan is so overjoyed that she’s with shang, and shang wants her, that she kisses him without explaining.

except now shang’s father demands an explanation. so they give it to him, the whole story comes tumbling out, and he stares hard at her, and remembers her as ping, the brave soldier that had saved them all. he’s not upset - he ecstatic. he goes to the emperor and tells him everything, and the emperor officially offers mulan an officer position in the army. she accepts, as long as shang is by her side. shang seconds this, and they set in motion the plans for the wedding.

fa mulan and li shang get married and lead armies and live happily ever after, just like the stars intended.

So I was rewatching Miraculous (again) and I just felt like you would understand that wonderful shipper feeling you get when you see the scene of Chat Noir smiling at Marinette's family photo in Animan.

NONY, YOU REALLY GET ME. BECAUSE, OK, ok. Like, I’m not sure why I never made a post about this but now that you brought it up I’m just??????? heck yeah let me talk about this—

because there is more to this scene than you know, anon. THERE IS MORE. So slip on your shipping goggles cuz we about to swim deep in this ocean of shipping feels~

See here, we have our sunshine baby Chat smiling at a picture of Marinette and her family. Now, that in itself is already oodles of cute and fluff because it shows he really likes the Dupain-Chengs—–

BUT WAIT—– THERE’S MORE!!!

See this moment here? When Ladybug calls him, he reacts like this:

What is that face, you tomcat?

Is that guilt i see in your face?

WHY ARE YOU A GUILTY KITTY?

Is it because “the love of your life” has caught you smiling at a photo of some other girl? Or is it because you caught yourself smiling at a photo of some other girl? In the general vicinity of the love of your life and the other girl’s parents?

HMM??

HMMMMM??

are ye guilty of another crush? y/y

Why I Love Black People, Reason #8,372.

So last night, some poor intern at Yahoo probably lost their job with this tweet.

Learn to proofread, Beth!  Anyway, Black Twitter was not bout to just let that slide and the GOLD going down in the #NiggerNavy hashtag has me crying.  Now, I know some of my white friends/readers are slightly uncomfortable reading that hashtag, and that just means you were raised right.  But Black America has enacted a brief – very brief – reprieve where you can read and even chuckle about the n-word without collapsing into a puddle of guilt.  Note, this reprieve is not extended to speaking or typing, so I bet not see none of y’all’s handles on Twitter trynna participate.  I already know Buzzfeed is probably finding one of their many Black folks to compile a list and blur out the i-g-g in each tweet so they can post it and catch those clicks real quick.

And tell your Trumpublican cousins to stay out of our hashtag with their whining about how racist it is that we can say it and they can’t.

Edit:  I don’t check for Buzzfeed so I was wrong.  I mean, yes, they already made a post, but they didn’t blur anything.

edit #2 15/12/2015: the context for this post is that in 2014, while my atheist ass was chilling with my Catholic family, i started thinking about how Christmas, despite being marketed as a non-religious holiday and celebrated in the western world by people of all religions these days, still contains elements that are clearly Christian - the word “Christ” literally being in the name, nativity scenes in Santa parades, songs about the birth of Christ - and wondering if that created any dissonance for non-Christians. i made a flippant post about it which got zero notes.

fast-forward to december 2015, i’ve grudgingly slid into agnosticism over the past year, i find this post in my xmas tag and reblog it, intending to start a conversation with any mutuals online. a few Christian-raised mutuals get the joke and reblog it without commentary. it starts to gather notes and a few people are angry at what they think is a lack of sensitivity towards the fact that Christmas is shoved down everyone’s throats, so i make the first edit (at the end of the post), not realising the original is circulating fast. three days later it has 20k notes and i’m drowning.

this post wasn’t an angry one, it wasn’t mocking or attacking non-Christians. i’m fully aware of Christianity’s frequently violent and hateful history, and the pagan roots of the holiday. i was raised entirely aware of the large gap in what the Catholic Church preaches and what the Catholic Church does, and i have, actually, questioned its teachings for most of my life, identifying as an atheist since i was eight. i haven’t been brainwashed or lied to and i don’t think everyone should have to listen to my “made-up book” (thanks, militant atheist tumblr). i know Santa isn’t in the Bible, thanks for that shocking revelation.

to everyone who took the post in the spirit in which it was intended: thank you for your stories about how you celebrate Christmas, they’re really sweet. i am genuinely happy that Christmas is a holiday celebrated by a wide variety of people for a wide variety of reasons. i’m going to publish the stories i already have, but i can’t guarantee i’ll publish anymore (though this post seems to be slowing down, thank God).

this is the last thing i ever want to say about this, so if i get any more hate about it i’ll just link to this post. merry Christmas everyone, and a happy New Year.

what’s christmas even like in non-christian families? in completely non-religious families? like what do you tell your children? “well, kids, we’re eating a whole lot of food and spending a fuckton of money spoiling you because some other people somewhere believe their holy lord and saviour and the greatest person to walk the earth was born 2000 years ago. here’s a playstation.”

edit: all sarcasm in this post was directed at the commercialisation of this day, which i am fully aware is due to the actions of the race who forced this religion on nearly the whole world in this first place. it wasn’t directed at non-christians and i would genuinely like to know how non-christians who celebrate christmas explain the holiday to their children, if anyone would like to share.

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(It doesn’t seem to be 100% happening yet but there are talks of a new network and the GMW team IS apparently working on a Season 4.)

UPDATE (JULY 4th 2017): Exactly two months ago (May 4th) the GMW writers confirmed on Twitter that they couldn’t find a new home for the series. I thought most people knew about this but I still get notified with responses, likes, and reblogs. I made this post at the end of March when this rumor was going around. The reason I haven’t deleted it is because it’s been reblogged enough times already that a good amount of people have seen it anyway. But now you know. I’m sorry, AAHS Patriots.
Does anybody in this fandom ever stop and think... (pt.2)

(Ok so I know I’ve already made a post for Destiel but I have to know…)

HOW THE HELL DID WE START SHIPPING SABRIEL?!

I get why people thought of shipping ships like Destiel but… I mean…. How did this ship start?!

Like, did people just go…. “Ok Dean and Cas are destined to be together but what about our precious Sammy? He’s got to have someone!”… “You know who would be perfect… GABRIEL!”

I mean was it the height difference that people liked?

Or the differences in personality?

Or perhaps because they both have long hair?

“I want you around the most.”

I keep imagining something really big happening that'll show Namjoon antis that they were wrong about him all along. I know it might be unrealistic but there's a tiny part of me that hopes that it'll happen some day.

okay but like, consider the fact that something like that has already happened multiple times? i mean think about it. yoongi made a few vaguely gay comments and the fandom worships him as a gay icon. but namjoon has repeatedly talked about lgbtq rights and shown his support? silence.

namjoon made sure his collab with Wale talked about social issues like BLM bc he wanted to inspire rather than make another party song. if anyone else had done that it would blow the fuck up. namjoon? nobody cares. or like how namjoon is the only member to really educate himself on feminism, reading books on the subject and even talking about the glass ceiling in not today and writing 21st century girls to empower women. if anyone else did that? people would lose their minds. i prime example: namjoon has discussed mental illness since BEFORE debut. he has continually worked to empower young people who suffer like he has. but no one cares or knows. yoongi does this once on his mixtape? people worship him.

i mean imagine if jungkook was found reading a book about feminism? imagine if yoongi tweeted about being moved by pro lgbtq lyrics or recommended a lesbian film? if jimin wanted to make his collab about blm? if taehyung did a vlive and discussed how he needs to be open to criticism always, how he needs to continue to grow and be critical of his own self not allowing his pride to hold himself back from taking responsibility for his actions? this is so mature, so out of the ordinary for idols that people would be blowing it up. namjoon does this and people continue to treat him as the one problematic member. so hear me now:

namjoon is held to an incredibly high standard while the rest can do as they please in comparison

that seems to be a really dramatic statement but think about it. the other members have committed the SAME acts that namjoon is constantly hated for. namjoon is not the only member to say the n word. majority of the group has made colorist comments. hes not the only one guilty of cultural appropriation. the whole group had sexist lyrics. everyone has a problematic past. yet namjoon is the only one recognized for it. no one is losing their mind trying to get an apology out of the other members – most pretend that nothing is wrong. but namjoon? every things he done has been carefully recorded by everyone into a little book of “reasons namjoons is horrible”. dont get me wrong, he was problematic and i support the people angered by it. but its so glaringly unfair how you all treat him.

the other members are about equally as problematic… yet they have not apologized, they have not educated themselves, they have not shown any effort to change their problematic mindsets. no other member has put themselves on the line advocating for lgbtq rights (instead some have made mildly homophobic comments). no other member has educated themselves on feminism and advocated for it in music (instead some have made sexist comments). no other member has shown remorse for their appropriation of black hip hop culture and spoken out against that ignorance or advocated blm. no member is as singularly focused on helping people as namjoon is. despite mocking he still always tries to give advice and open up so we feel comforted. he constantly writes lyrics to help listeners; even when talking about his own pain he turns it into a message that we can all learn from. he cares. he cares so much i can’t believe hes real. and yet no one cares.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but namjoon has already done those outstanding things. no other idols is expected to do this… no other idols really do. but he does. he does all the time. he continues because even if people don’t care, he does. hes one of the most genuinely good people out there. and army will continue to not care because he isnt the other members.

i’m curious about somethin. if you’re lgbt and have pet(s) reblog and tag this with ur sexuality/gender and what pet(s) you have. i’m a bi girl with 2 rats, 2 rabbits and cat

Hussie & Hiveswap

I saw a post yesterday talking about The Odd Gentlemen and how they, not only got away with some of the Kickstarter money, but that wasted Hussie’s time and it all ended with him losing a good chunk of the Fandom. I’d be adding this on top of that post but I was on mobile and I didn’t really feel like typing all this by tapping there, but…

EITHER WAY. I agree very much that the Gigapause was devastating to the Fandom as a whole, and everything was delayed way too much, however, the fatalist light in which this post was put really made me dislike its entire premise. They mentioned how Hiveswap would never have a fraction of the following it’d have had otherwise, and other pretty sad and pessimistic views on how Hussie might be doing. But I believe that’s not exactly the case.

First of all, bigger or smaller Fandom, Hussie loves his fans, but over that, he absolutely loves his work. There was an AMA about Hiveswap a while ago saying how Hussie had already spent all the Kickstarter money and the project was continuing being paid from his own pocket, that there had been such huge cliffs to push through in the making that it was a miracle he was still determined on finishing the game.

But this is Hussie we’re talking about. Homestuck, Hiveswap, in the way he’s always spoken about how the Fandom grew and became its own things, the playful teases to the Fans, the way he spoke about Act 7, he’s got passion. He’s absolutely in love with this project, and it’s very much passion driven. Kickstarter Money or not, Stolen or otherwise, taking 2 or 5 years, with him determined to push through, I don’t think it was ever a doubt the game would come to be sooner or later. Would ‘stubborn as a mule’ count as an equine pun befitting him? My point is, while it’s sad all he had to go through, and even if the game didn’t get as much following, this is Hussie we’re talking about. As long as we’re there to check it out when it comes out and (hopefully) manages to catch our attention and makes us invested in it, it’ll all have been worth it.

The other point that made me feel a bit off, however, was the way they spoke about how Hiveswap would now have none of the following it could’ve had. However, need I remind you about Undertale? Like, yeah it might seem almost like begging to a friend, or feeling hopeful, but Undertale blew up and is still kinda blowing up, Toby Fox made quite the masterpiece, and it’s very likely, with his involvement, the popularity of Undertale will directly affect Hiveswap’s popularity. For better or worse. At the very least, I wouldn’t be surprised if Toby Fox not only makes the game more popular, but actually brings more people to Homestuck.

Specially now that it’s over, and as Hussie said, reading it all down at your own pace knowing there’s no ‘upd8′s’ to wait for was almost the intended way to read it. It’s only now that Homestuck, as a complete story, is showcased at its best.

Boom then crash, the shattering of glass
I dive to the floor, busting my ass
The hell was that
Was all that I say
Then I see the pool of blood
Then I see my mom she’s dead
No emotion in the commotion
I wasn’t even sad, even when I learned the bullet was meant for my dad
Vietnam made pops crazy he was already half-dead
So why couldn’t that’d be him that got shot in the head?
All the news that fits the print
Momma’s death went unreported not a whiff or word or hint
They don’t care about us niggers is how my pops explained it
But I didn’t know I was a nigga till my dad proclaimed it
Six months later my pops is dead too
Drug-related shots fired his skin turned cold blue
On the news that night the President’s wife got a new hair-do
The news guy said “I like it how about you?”
No word about my pops in the Post or on CBS, why was that you ask?
Take a fucking guess
And yeah why is that, that’s what politicians should be asking
But who got time for questions when you all skiing up on Aspen?
Broads get gunshots to the head and all y'all serving us is Asprin
My momma so lovely she’d have made your head spin
Level the playing field and y'all will see who’ll really win
And yeah I got anger
But I don’t let it take me down, my momma taught me better
And she holds me up when I fall down
Rest in peace moms, don’t worry about your son
Some day I’ll make you proud because yeah I am the one.

- Ezekiel (The Get Down).

You know, I wanna say sth about that interview!
Ok so it seems like Lauren and Joaquim just killed klance, yadda yadda, they have the whole story planned already, they’re not baiting, OKAY. Okay then. There are two possibilities.

1. Klance isn’t gonna happen. They have no romance planned or they have some other end game planned. And tbh, if that’s the case, then well… whole lotsa people, including me, are gonna be disappointed. Maybe not surprised (because how many same-sex ships, no matter how many hints and how good chemistry, become canon? ye, not many), but surely disappointed, because such a good potential and LGBT rep would be wasted.
But hey, don’t worry! They’ve still something planned for them! Keith and Lance are still gonna be friends, maybe even co-leaders, and it’ll still be heartwarming to see them getting along, and getting closer! The show’s main focus isn’t romance. There are so many things to be hyped about! Fave characters, fan theories, friendships, the plot. Lots of good stuff.
And when it comes to Klance… I know for sure that I’m not gonna stop drawing content for it just because it isn’t canon. And I’m sure most artists feel the same way. And writers. So yup, we’re still doing our thing! We’re still having that fan content, no matter what! (and canon content too, you know… All those Klance Moments™ aren’t going anywhere)

2. Ok, but here’s the second possibility… maybe Klance actually DOES happen, despite what most of us are thinking rn?
The whole interview is actually really vague. They’re saying that the whole story is planned, that they’re not changing it, and that Keith and Lance have some natural progression. Weeell, I dunno how bout you, but if I were a writer of the show, I wouldn’t wanna spoil anything important… like a canon ship, for example! “Natural progression”, huh? Welp, it might as well be romantic! They said all these things about Klance (or Laith, as Lauren would prefer) being compatible, so maybe now they wanted to say something that’d make it less obvious?
Hey, the important thing? We’ve still got all the hints, all the clues, all the moments.
That one moment when Keith and Lance are kneeling next to each other, holding each others’ hands, looking into each others’ eyes, smiling, bathed in purple lightning, while Lance says “we are a good team” softly? It’s still there.
That one moment when Lance talks to Laika about how cool Keith is with this fond expression on his face? Still there, as well as the animators’ confirmation that every expression counts and tells us how character might feel about something, even if we don’t know about it yet.
Keith’s NUMEROUS fond looks at Lance, with lifted eyebrows, sparkling eyes and a smile? Still. There!
Like, we dunno what will happen in the show… we have NO IDEA, but we may theorize. And I dunno man,, but all the hints in the show, plus all the stuff said in interviews? It doesn’t seem bad. In fact, it seems pretty darn good.

Y'all, don’t panic, don’t worry, just wait and see! Klance might happen, or it might not. But it’s gonna be okay, no matter what!~

My dear lgbt+ kids,

If someone proudly puts “homophobe” in their blog description or URL, you know that they are.. what’s the kindest word to choose here… assholes.

If I see a negative comment on my posts or a angry message by someone who made the conscious decision to put “homophobic and proud of it” or similar things in their blog description, it’s obvious I do not need to care about whatever they have to say - they already proved that they are not only ignorant but willingly, purposefully want to disrespect, scare and hurt people like me.

The word “homophobe” is connected to violence. It’s not a cute thing to call yourself. Even if the person is likely just a 13-year-old with too much free time who wants to be edgy, the connection is there. And that’s why it’ll never be funny or cute or “harmless tumblr discourse” to describe yourself as ”homophobic and proud of it”.

If you call yourself homophobic on your blog, I have no way to know if you are a “I ship my favorite character in a hetero relationship and am upset that other people say he is gay” homophobe or a “I will assault you if I see you holding hands with your wife in public” homophobe.

The same applies 100% to anyone who calls themselves “aphobic and proud” or “transphobic and proud” or “biphobic and proud”. Their hate is not suddenly any more acceptable because it’s directed at a less widely-known identity.

Yes, this includes gay people who call themselves aphobic. As an adult in a gay relationship, I’m appalled to see young gay people throw around words that have negative, violent connotations. Our community can do better than that.

It’s hard to end this letter on a sweet, positive note but I do want to tell you that if seeing blogs who say such things hurts you, you’re not alone. If they scare you, you are not alone. You’re not being silly or taking it too serious or overreacting.

Please know that I’ll never stand with those people. My blog will always be a safe space for all people in the lgbt+ community. Exclusion is an alien concept here. I say “lgbt+” for a reason.

With all my love,

Your Tumblr Mom
