i know a lot of people don't like this scene but it's always been one of my favorites

On a date to the movies...
  • Aries: Watches the movie, but when you let your guard down, attacks you with some new type of sexual shit multiple times and acts like they didn't do anything; total sweethearts though, that will embarrass the hell out of you, be prepared or skips the movie and take you some where dangerous but cool as hell because they go on adventures like that and end the date with some home-made smoothies at their house because your still breathing hard and they are worried
  • Taurus: Paid for the food as you paid for the tickets, eating the snacks they bought or snuck in via bra, hat or pants (get creative) , but always feeds some to you without taking their eyes off the screen unless they see you waste the food they just bought for you-- bitch you better eat the rest of that fucking cinnamon roll
  • Gemini: Low-key flirting with you, pats your thigh a lot or plays with your hand; discusses with you when to take bathroom breaks and who would keep track of the story-line in the movie OR discusses the movie with you as they slowly take some of your nachos and eat the shit in your face-- be careful when staring at them, look at their lips more than twice, your gonna get it after they make you laugh your way into some nicely formed abs
  • Cancer: Keeps looking at you from the corner of their eye, you both share the drink with two different straws, but get confused on who's is who's, end up having an indirect kiss which causes this cutie to blush... or cuss you the fuck out, there is no in-between, btw you might watch some movie on Netflix (Minions) afterwards at their house that came out last month or something because they have been wanting to watch it and they get what the fuck they want, now cuddle them hoe
  • Leo: Wore a more relaxed outfit today and is more chill about things; tells you jokes from stand-ups they have watched and at the end of the night makes you spit out your soda, helps clean you up but ends up kissing you and we all know where that leads to... Yeah that's right- WALMART because they wanna play with some toys cause Walmart stays open and they don't want to go home yet
  • Virgo: Trying their best to not freak out on sitting near by another couple who is making out pretty roughly, smiles a lot when you nudge them at certain scenes (wink wink or nah); low-key wished they could go back to working but realizes that is was worth throwing away their schedule for you and... is low-key thinking about sexing you tonight... like, their mind is just filled with thoughts of THAT BODY and all the ways they can make you scream-- I'm not joking. Bring a condom. (Be safe kids. D:)
  • Libra: Just so many shy smiles, happy smiles, careful smiles and flirty smiles-- don't know how else to explain it besides the saying: "When your happy, I'm happy."; or just really happy to be out of the house and doing something with one of their favorite people (your not the only one, shhh, it's okay, your still special) plus, if the mood calls for it, will talk with you about some deep shit and make you realize... what the fuck is Goofy on? Like dude, spill your secretsssssss-- Who has the hook up? Is it Pluto? That dude is never there like, bruh. Is he selling drugs to other Disney characters? No wonder everything looks so lit
  • Scorpio: Will keep trying to hold your hand, just stares at you-- probably the type to take you to a movie that they truly recommend, not just some trend; at the end of the night will make sure you go home with a smile or ... make-out with you passionately somewhere breathtaking only they and their exs know about and its all planned out and shit. Then surprise you with that good-good and you end up in bed with them in the morning, realizing that you have been de-flowered and you loved every moment of it as they kiss you on the head and mutter the words "Now get the fuck out." (NO CHILL)
  • Sagittarius: Will tease the hell out of you the whole entire time, don't take offence though, they just don't know how else to communicate how much they l- l- lo- like that boootah-- just kidding, but they will make jokes like this to make awkward situations more awkward just for the hell of it; you laughing at their jokes makes their heart grow-two-sizes-more or some corny bullshit like that
  • Capricorn: Honestly, like, the hell man? These Caps are true gentlemen/polite ladies because they will honestly... make sure your night goes out with some weird shit; Now-- Be warned, they are crazy when hyped off of sugar and shit, but its cute, so it's okay
  • Aquarius: Get ready to learn a lot of shit, they are about to drop some mad fire of knowledge on your ass, all while taking you to the park after the movies and walk around that shit for while till they see the moon rising and wink at the sky because their alien comrades are watching you guys like some fucking movie-- they are shipping you guys HARD; Oh! Will also tell you stripping is not as bad as it seems, and that you should try it out, they will visit and give you some feedback
  • Pisces: NOW, us Pisces will treat you to some cool shit and pay to watch a movie and then movie hop the shit out of that theater because we aren't gonna pay fucking $16.50 to see some bs movie we can see on YouTube 3 months later-- Buuuuuut don't get mistaken, we will take you on the ride of your life afterwards ;).............. Street racing, get your mind out of the gutter and put on your seat belt and look safe, the cops are lurking
  • (First time trying this, like it or not, not my fault. Just how I view the signs. WATER SQUAD. SQUAD SQUAD SQUAD. Alright, bye.)

  • O'shea: The Perfect Beat by Afrika Bambatta
  • Q: What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?

  • O'shea: All about the benjamins. Super Suuuuper underrated
  • Q: What's your favorite Ice Cube song?
  • O'shea: Natural Born Killaz
  • Q: Whe do you think you'll finish screenwriting at USC?
  • O'shea: When I feel like my writing is missing something. I'll know it's time to sharpen back up and get to my cinematic roots.
  • Q: When can we expect music from you?
  • O'shea: Ingratiate I would love to do music. I still snap over instruments to myself. But they might typecast ya mans if I put certain type record. For now I'm focused on my craft as an actor but my older brother and I have started a producing team.
  • Q: Why haven't you used your snap?
  • O'shea: Everytime I'm on any social media I'm just thinking. "Why am I not on instagram?"
  • Q: What is your favorite part in SOC?
  • O'shea: Smashing Bryan Turners office. We've all wanted to break things with a bat before.
  • Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
  • O'shea: Crush my enemies. Not really. But I'm a real Nerd and I am completely unapologetic. When I gotta unwind it's video game time.
  • Q: Why didn’t you release the video for ‘Ain’t No Place’? Was it because of being typecast?
  • O'shea: Yes. With the movie having buzz around the Academy I didn't want any possibility of the song affecting the film. And I didn't want it to look like I'm Ice Cube part 2 out here. lol.
  • Q: Were you nervous about trying out for the movie?
  • O'shea: I was extremely nervous. I had to audition for two years and when you've never been through the process. You don't know what could've made you or boke you during that little time you had auditioning. If I didn't take the role. The world woulda killed me. If I didn't win the role. The world woulda killed me. And I was it was as movie. The world woulda killed me. At the end of the day, nothing was gonna sop me from immortalizing my dad in film. A lot of people ain't want me to get the part. Be he did and that's all I needed.
  • Q: Celeb crush?
  • O'shea: She's taken already. Don't wanna start waves.
  • Q: Did you practice some of the songs with your father or did you learn on your own?
  • O'shea: The performance and studio scenes in SOC are me in my element. What I'm used to doing. So when I was there it's like, wait y'all want me to rap my DAD's songs? I BEEN DOIN THIS.
  • Q: Were any of the scenes hard to do?
  • O'shea: More cowbell #SNLjoke
  • Q: Actors you look up to?
  • O'shea: Denzel and Leo
  • Q: Did you re-record some of Cube's verses or lip sync?
  • O'shea: We recorded the whole album, fam
  • Q: Marvel or DC?
  • O'shea: If you gotta ask. Somethin must be wrong.
  • Q: Do you like your fathers older movies?
  • O'shea: of course. People don't appreciate what a great film Players Club is.
  • Q: Do you ever feel pressure to surpass all that your father has accomplished?
  • O'shea: I've felt it since I was in the 5th grade. (The pressure) it doesn't come from him. All of it comes from me because I don't want to feed into the narrative of talent skips a generation or the whole "was born on 3rd base, and thought he hit a triple." Aspect. I'm so appreciative of my blessings and the only way to ensure my own legacy is to perfect my craft.
  • Q: Worst movie you've ever seen?
  • O'shea: Movie 43
  • Q: Best compliment you've ever heard?
  • O'shea: When I hear that I inspire someone. Being a celebrity is cute and all but it's smoke and mirrors. I understand that this all can be taken away in an instant. FAME is a jellyfish. Yeah it's beautiful but don't you dare get wrapped up in it. So while I do have a platform, the best thing i can do is to encourage or inspire. If not i'm just being selfish.
  • Q: Are you going to see Kobe play his very last game?
  • O'shea: Yeah I'll be the guy crying uncontrollably being escorted by security

  • Q: What artist would we be surprised you listen to?
  • O'shea: I love Imagine Dragons and F.U.N.
  • Q: How was it growing up as ice cubes son?
  • O'shea: It has it's perks of course. But kind of annoying until you grow up lol. I have to put people through so many trials in order for you to be considered my friend. You don't know people's motives. My friend Tanner was my very first friend EVER. Met in kindergarten. Just said 'hey I'm Shea lets be friends.' After that.....Everyone else know me as ice cubes son. But my friends. Call me Shea. And it's 5 of them. You just grow up thinking different being ice cubes son.
  • Q: Would you want your kids to follow in your footsteps?
  • O'shea: If it was their choice by all means. My parents allowed us to find our own paths. But give everything your best effort because if you don't, then why are you doing it?
  • Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
  • O'shea: learn how to dunk
  • Q: Fave Rappers?

  • Q: Do you like Justin Biebers new album?
  • O'shea: I would be lying if I said Justin Bieber didn't have a few tracks on that thang
  • Q: Do you think education is necessary?
  • O'shea: I definitely feel that education is important. But I also feel the mind will not process information it feels it doesn't need. Find what interests you and educate.
  • Q: Growing up, what was the biggest problem you faced?
  • O'shea: Keepin the snakes out the grass.
  • Q: What type of films would you develop as a screenwriter? Is there certain topics that you're passionate about?
  • O'shea: I'm into smart comedies. And movies that don't give a lot away so you're not in the theater tryna guess things before they happen. You kinda just take the films scene by scene like life. If I could write a modern day Big Lebowski, I would be happy as an accomplished writer.
  • Q: Your thoughts about ride along 2?
  • O'shea: needs more me
  • Q: Any difference between before SOC and after?

  • Q: How many Yeezys you got?
  • O'shea: 3. 2 Nikes first editions
  • Q: Would SOC be better if Jason had Eazy with him?
  • O'shea: The fact that he didn't have Eazy is why I would've nominated him
  • Q: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
  • O'shea: I'd make everyone more understanding. We'd be fine.
  • Q: Was wondering if you'd like both (Harry Potter/Star Wars)?

If you don't mind me asking, what reylo fics are you currently reading?

Running through my subscriptions on AO3 real quick (not sure of everyone’s Tumblr URLs so just going with AO3 pseuds):

A Dream in Twofold by TearoomSaloon

  • An excellent take on the “Rey is Ren’s apprentice” trope. Snoke is genuinely terrifying and the slow burn and Kylo’s conflict are both delicious.

A Proper Education by SouthSideStory

  • Smut. It’s smut. Kylo-defected-to-the-Resistance smut.

Amygdala by nerdherderette

  • A LOT of Reylo fics have Kylo as a doctor/surgeon in a modern AU, but I like the way this one approaches it, with Rey doing her residency next to him. It’s almost like a Grey’s Anatomy take on the ship, but done very, very well, which is good since I’ve never liked Grey’s.

Charcoal by luvkurai

  • I think most people know this one. Unstable/obsessive artist!Kylo. Badass engineering student/art enthusiast Rey. It’s unsettling but you just can’t look away.

Children of Violence by america_oreosandkitkats

  • Set against the backdrop of the Soviet-Afghan war in which American Kylo has defected to the Soviet Union. Very mysterious with heavy political intrigue and well-done modern-historical AU.

Chivalry Isn’t Dead, It Just Joined the Dark Side by frackin_sweet and hato

  • This one is fun. Rey is a drifter who ends up catching a job at a Renaissance Faire, where she also ends up working with renowned actor, stage combat vet, and SERIOUS pain in the ass Kylo Ren, whose family owns the damn thing. The entire cast is well-represented and the humor is on-point. Definitely a good chaser for the heaviness of most Reylo fics.

Errant by pontmercy44

  • The last chapter of this one just made me REALLY mad and upset so I’m now watching it warily, but until then, it was one of my favorites (and probably will be again… hopefully… please). Rey is the victim of a trafficking ring who witnesses a murder and ends up in the ER attended by Snoke’s personal physician, Kylo. It’s very, very heavy in places and you just want to give Rey a hug, but there are some excellent scenes with Han and Leia and Kylo’s attempts to slot back into his family with Rey in tow. Again, it just took a really, really sharp turn that I’m not too sure about yet, but I’m reccing it for now because it was amazing up until that point.

Ja’ak by Trebia

  • Dark!Reylo written by the author of “Forms”. You know why I’m reading this. You know why all of you should be reading this.

Like Young Gods by diasterisms

  • Probably the best and most comprehensive Reylo(ish) Jedi Academy AU I’ve seen thus far. This could be an EU novel with these characters.

Nine Lives by on_my_toes

  • I still haven’t figured out if I love or hate this fic. On the one hand, some of the best and most poignant angst you’ll see in a modern AU in this fandom. On the other… it hurts. It really, really hurts. In so many ways. It’s like watching two of your friends who are in love with each other but have serious issues and keep throwing up giant barriers and creating issues so they’ll never get together, and there’s nothing you can do about it. I’m just hoping that all of the pain is worth it as the fic draws to a close.

Opia by t0bemadeofglass

  • Serial killer/cop AU with a ton of dark mystery and excellent writing. I’m a fan. There is some Reylux and Kylux within this work, of which I am not a fan, but they’re optional side works that don’t conflict with the primary narrative if you’re not into that.

Reflektor by ReyloTrashCompactor (NextToSomething)

  • This one’s just starting, but I’m intrigued. Captured!Rey in the hands of Kylo with some interesting interplay thus far. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Retreat by ms_qualia

  • I’m in love with this fic. Seriously. Spy Thriller AU, political intrigue, dangerously unstable Kylo and completely badass Han and Leia. Has a very strong dystopian feel to it that the author captures perfectly.

She Who Would Be Queen by sasstasticmad

  • Historical romance/Regency-esque AU. Updates can be slow, but it has strong writing and atmosphere.

The Death of Kylo Ren by nymja

  • The Force Bond is a very common trope in Reylo fics, but this is one of my favorite takes on it, and an unsettling examination of the negative consequences of it. Kylo Ren’s characterization is also some of the best I’ve ever seen.

The Moon, the Sun, and the Star Inbetween. by Silvershine

  • Most of you guys have already been reading this one for awhile, but I just got into it recently. It’s the only fic I’ve seen where Kylo and Rey have a child and Kylo is decidedly not redeemed (and his dynamic with Rey is decidedly unromantic), so it’s a very interesting examination of some common tropes.

The Proof of It All by machinewithoutfeelings

  • This is kind of the opposite story to the above, where Kylo and Rey end up having a child and she is his redemption, in a way. I’m actually not a fan of fics where K&R have children, at all, but I’ve strangely loved the way this fic has handled it since day one. It helps that the author is exceptionally skilled and handles the entire narrative with very deft hands.

The Purest Place in the Galaxy by ClockworkCourier

  • Kylo, Rey, and the Force ghosts on Dagobah! Kylo is miserable, Rey is a badass, the slow burn is both slow and burning, and the turn from humor to drama has been perfectly executed.

The World In Its Dark Grace by  tyrantsandcreampuffs

  • This is another one that’s just getting started but seems very promising. Arranged marriage AU in a historical fantasy setting.

Tomb Reyder by IAmLokiLocked

  • In which Rey is an archaeology student on a summer excavation in Greece, and Kylo is Hades (poorly) taking human form. An interesting twist on the Hades and Persephone myth in a modern setting.

Hope that helps! I’m always open for more recs, and I’m sure there are others that I poke around with that I’m forgetting, but those are some of the fics that I’m reading at the moment. :)

Hi! Do you know if Adam Driver has ever mentioned how he got started with or what he thinks of his modeling career? Because he's totally a male model. From interviews about acting he always seems very surprised/confused that moviegoers think he's sexy (like the "No, no, that's nice, I don't know what to think of that" responses he gives). I get the feeling he could be similarly confused why photographers want to take his picture or dress him up for magazines. Any quotes/insight?

Okay, first I have to thank you for this ask, and I have to apologise for not answering it before. I’ve been thinking about it even since you sent it, because I love these types of things, but they also take me a lot of time because I want to provide as good an answer as possible. Which I’ve now finally sat down to do.

Okay, it turns out it’s a right bitch to find any interview where Adam talks about this to any extensive degree, so I just need to go with what I got.

As far as I can tell, Adam did his first fashion photo shoots in 2012. (If anyone has any different info on this, please let me know, I couldn’t find any before that.) As to his feelings on this, they’re hard to come by, but there’s a few times he’s mentioned this, mostly in interviews when he’s asked about his “unusual looks” (I’m sorry, but it must be simply galling to be asked about this as often as he’s been), like in this interview in The Guardian last year:

What about being a sex symbol?

[Laughs loudly] I have nothing to say about that.

You must have been told before that you have an amazing unusual face? It’s a compliment - not being the standard Hollywood McHunk has worked in your favour.

I have been told before that I have an unusual face. But my face is my face. I had a whole life before acting, over the years. Lots of things have been said about my face.

He also provides some insight in this piece from Stylist Magazine in 2013:

At 6ft 3in, he cuts a striking figure; his edgy persona and unusual looks having landed him modelling gigs for Gap and Vogue. Today at the Four Seasons, Beverly Hills, he’s casual in white T-shirt and jeans, his previously neat Bieber-esque hair now shoulder length and shaggy. He is pretty goofy, laughing when discussing how his frequently bare torso has been afforded the dubious pleasure of having its own Twitter account.

How does he feel about being objectified? “I haven’t processed that yet. I guess it’s better than people being like, ‘F*ck that guy!’ But I don’t know how to take that on.”

You have a strong screen presence. Is that tapping into something in you?

Maybe I am weird, and that is coming through in a lot of characters! I think with all roles, you bring ‘you’ to them. Every character I play I feel like he is going to put Kleenex in his nose at the end of every scene. But I don’t think about if they are weird. It’s not in my mind to make them unique, it’s just my take, my initial impulse.

You have a very distinct look. How do you feel about that?

I look the way I look. As you get older, you don’t care that much. I am who I am. The military had something to do with that, because you get torn down so much, you grow thick skin. I know I look odd. I never think I look cool! [Laughs]. Because of what I do, the way I look is on the forefront, but you can either let it limit you and go down the rabbit hole of, “Oh God, why don’t I look like that?” or use it to fuel you, like, “What’s wrong with being different?”

How do you feel about fame?

I don’t understand it. It’s all new to me. Being recognised on the street, that’s not a normal thing. So suddenly, when you go places, you find yourself being self-aware like, “Do I have something dangling…?” And everyone has phones. I hate phones. I am suddenly so scared of [camera] phones. It’s a weird adjustment.

(Yes, I know, the Bieber reference is galling, but otherwise it’s a nice piece, I recommend a read.)

I expect we’ve all seen the interview on The Late Night With Stephen Colbert from march this year, where this happened:

(The whole gifset is here.)

He does seem very uncomfortable discussing the Newsweek article. Whether that’s because he really feels insecure, or if it comes from thinking the whole sex symbol thing is ridiculous in general, it’s hard to say. Maybe a bit of both? He strikes me as a man that has a handle on his priorities, and I feel he’d much rather get recognition for the work he does, and not for his looks.

On the other hand, that may be wishful thinking on my part, especially considering this, Guy Trebay’s now rather infamous NY Times interview, from where some of his more famous quotes stem:

“I’m like a sight gag,” said Adam Driver, who plays the ugly-handsome, so-awful-to-Hannah-he’s-catnip bad boyfriend from HBO’s “Girls.”

“I have this really big face,” added Mr. Driver, whose powerful head suggests a public monument and whose striking features one writer called “worthy of the Mongolian plains.”

“Costume people are always saying they don’t have clothes big enough for me,” added Mr. Driver, who at 6-foot-3 is a veritable giant in an industry where 5-foot-10 is the median height for heartthrobs.

Whether despite or because of his unusual looks, Mr. Driver finds himself on the eve of the hit cable show’s highly anticipated third season (it returns in January) both a breakout star and, more curious still, an unexpected new favorite of fashion.

Somehow, he also found time to model for a September Vogue pictorial shot in Ireland by Annie Leibovitz and for Gap’s new “Back to Blue” ad campaign, which had its debut in mid-September and marked the brand’s return to TV advertising for the first time since 2009.

“I don’t totally get it,” the actor said one recent morning over coffee at a communal table in a cafe near his home in Brooklyn Heights. “I mean, when I read for ‘Girls,’ I was, like, the script says ‘Handsome Carpenter,’ so someone else is going to get the part. They’ll have someone handsome, not me. I mean, I’m not in any danger of getting leading-man parts.”

Mr. Driver characterizes his “Girls” character, Adam Sackler, in more prosaic terms: “He’s part poet, part rhinoceros and part Neanderthal.”

If all the recent hype, the adulation, the Emmy nomination and the breathless encomiums from the fashion flock have gone to the actor’s head, he does a credible job of concealing it. “The deadly thing in my job is to attach too much meaning to everything,” said Mr. Driver, who in person is thoughtful and unnervingly sincere, and smart enough to take a gimlet-eyed view of the overnight stardom that took him a decade to achieve. “You have to have a sense of humor about yourself.”

Now, apart from the editorial genius of describing him as “ugly-handsome”,

this interview pretty much sums up how he likely feels about his own looks and how he expects the world to react to them. On the other hand, looking at his roles, and photoshoots for that matter, he doesn’t seem to preoccupied with how people view him. And that, to me, is something that makes him even more attractive.

That’s some of my insight, but I thought it would be nice to include some of the things others have said about him, as it also sheds some light on how he’s gotten to be considered such an attractive model. Since it’s a rather long(er) read, I’ve put it under the cut.

I just wanted to ask, like, do you genuinely think Hinata is a good character? I personally don't like her much but I don't like to spread hate so I prefer to keep my opinions limited to my own blog but I just wanted to ask your reason for liking Hinata so much? I've always thought she was a pretty random useless character who could disappear and the series would go on as normal

Yes, I genuinely think Hinata is a good character. I was, originally, going to link two posts here done by friends about what Hinata means to them, but I opted instead to just talk about why I think she is a good character rather than someone else. First, though, I wand to address the claim she was a ‘random useless character,’ who could disappear and the series would go on as normal. Flatly speaking, this is not true, and I’ll show why.

I know many fans will agree with me when we say the Chuunin Exam Arc was one of the high points of Part 1, if not the entire manga. There is a lot of character growth, and a lot of set up in that arc that is very well done. Hinata is literally a cornerstone of Naruto’s story in this arc, a key supporting character that is not only important, but necessary. There are the low-key but important interactions during the first test, her cheering for him in the preliminaries and the like, but what is really key is her fight with Neji. This fight not only builds up both characters (which is necessary given Neji is Naruto’s ‘antagonist’ in this arc, in a way, and presented as such even in excess to Gaara at this point) but also provides something we have yet to see from the Naruto: someone his age that has admired him from the start. Hinata is key here. Not only does she set up Naruto’s fight with Neji on a dramatic and emotional level, she then provides (in the Proud Failure speech,) not only a big exploration of Naruto’s character, but also is the first of several times she saves him, as Naruto will describe it.

Hinata not only shows she understands Naruto better than almost anyone at this point, she gives him the will to fight and take on Neji.

In Part 2, she once again plays a key role in things, even as a secondary character. Hinata has a unique role in the Pain Arc, something fits her character entirely. Her standing up to Pain despite its seeming futility evokes the same confidence and scene she had when facing down Neji during the prelims. Further, without Hinata’s intervention than Naruto is beaten. We are not arguing, of course, for replacement, as one could do this for essentially any character, but rather we’re talking about REMOVAL. So that’s two arcs that collapse without Hinata. This continues into the war, where there is a lot of growth directly due to Hinata. Without Hinata, Naruto succumbs to the despair Obito is using as a weapon. These are just SOME of the scenes that use Hinata that would utterly collapse without her. There are other instances too.

This is in contrast to several other supporting characters with far less key roles. Indeed, among the supporting cast, Hinata is actually one that is utterly NECESSARY for the story to continue as it is without radically altering it.

Further, as a character, there are several reasons I, personally, like Hinata. She has a very unique background while still fitting into the same archetype common in several Naruto characters. However, while Naruto had his tragic childhood due to a lack of a family and the the kyuubi, Gaara had his due to Shukaku, and Sasuke had his due to his own family drama but mostly due to his brother and the massacre, Hinata’s is almost mundane. She has her family, she is not cursed and indeed the drama is very human: she simply is not seen as good enough by her family. She is unique among the supporting cast for being the only female with a comparable tragic background to Naruto, Sasuke, Gaara, and the like, which makes her stand out to me.

As a character, she also is interesting in that she is a shy character with low self-esteem that manages to find inspiration and build herself up, to learn to love herself. She is the first person to recognize Naruto’s potential, and to acknowledge him from the bottom of her heart. Her interactions with Naruto are unique, and the dynamics of their relationship are very nice. They’re also very warm and, frankly, fluffy at times, which is a nice contrast to the tragic backgrounds or the other ‘ships,’ as it would be.

Further, on a more base level, the byakugan is my favorite of the doujutsu, and Gentle Fist is damn cool, and I wish had been used more.

Further, despite claims and attempts to bash her, Hinata is not really used as ‘fanservice’ in the manga. People try to bring up SP, but SP has used literally all the female characters, and some male ones, as fanservice and has flanderized them repeatedly, so invoking what SP does is unfair to describing what Kishimoto does, in the manga. Though focus is given to her feelings for Naruto, these have actual major effects on the story, both at large and her own, rather than simply being some random trait. Hinata is not ‘the girl who crushes on Naruto,’ because to say as much would be entirely misleading, in the same way it would be wrong to say Sakura is ‘the girl who crushes on Sasuke.’

Before I end, I want to touch on something. So many anti arguments are based around bashing Hinata, far in excess of supposed bashing of Sakura or the like done by NH fans or something. And, more to the point, there is this strain that wants to paint Hinata as useless, or perhaps more fittingly, superfluous to the story, yet this is clearly not the case. There is also this constant attempt to bash her for supposedly being fan service, rather than actually addressing points of why folks like her.

Or you can be like gweatherwax and mock folks who found her inspiring, because you’re a terrible person. But generally speaking, most serious pro arguments don’t rely on trying to tear down the CHARACTERS of the other side. The fact that anti’s must not just attack the ship, but the character, speaks volumes.

In Which I Join The Squeeeee About Ghostbusters (2016) & It’s Feminism

I finally got my deeply disabled mother to agree to go see Ghostbusters with me at the 11th hour on Sunday. I really wanted to support this movie on opening night and I knew she would have fun once she committed to going. In all honestly, I thought I’d find it enjoyable and refreshing. But I wasn’t prepared to be blown away by how awesome it is to have female characters presented largely without stereotype, sexualization for the male gaze, and in a sci-fi/fantasy genre to boot.

Last December there was a quote going around tumblr about how Rey was such a feminist protagonist. And, I love her and mean no disrespect to her, but one quote in particular struck out at me. OP said something like, “this is how white boys must have felt in eighties,” referring to how in Rey we finally have a female character catered to women as men have had all along. And for some reason I didn’t quite agree with this. Because as wonderful and long-desired as Rey is, she’s, as many have pointed out, still white, skinny, conventionally attractive, and she’s still surrounded by a mostly male cast of very diverse and wonderful male characters. Don’t get me wrong, I do not think of her as a Mary Sue and I really really don’t want to diminish her progressive qualities. But that quote didn’t really make sense to me and I am white and female, if not always conventional. She wasn’t enough for me and I know she wasn’t enough for quite a few other women.

It wasn’t until I saw Holtzmann pistol whipping some Puritan ghosts in the hero shot of the movie that I realized what had been lacking for me. I know it sounds

I can understand most of the things Hook did this last episode but I just can't get behind him calling Milah "soiled". Have you been able to make sense of it?

I was thinking so hard about this, Anon, that I drove right past a stop I had to make on my way to work and had to turn around. :) I’m going to get to the statement in question, but I’m going to digress a little first.

Nah, who am I kidding, I’m gonna digress a lot. Sorry, these two continue to have my favorite dynamic in the whole show.

Did you hear the news?! Hoechlin isn't going to be a season regular anymore. When I read that, my stomach actually felt like it was dropping. Like, I know I shouldn't be upset by it or anything since it's only a show, but I can't help but feel immensely sad about it. Derek was one of my favorite characters, and now I don't know how to feel. And to top it all off, I was actually starting to think Sterek might actually happen. I mean, I know he'll still show up, so there's always a little hope

for Sterek to still happen, but that doesn’t really make me feel any better. I just miss the ways things used to be on Teen Wolf, I guess…

I did pick up the news in the middle of the night Norwegian time and i was honestly to bleary-eyed to respond in a coherent way.

There is growing panic in the fandom right now and i feel it’s very important to realize one thing: Tyler Hoechlin hasn’t left the show.

I repeat: Derek is still part of the story.

I’m seeing posts across my dash about how Derek isn’t part of it anymore and that Tyler Hoechlin left and people are freaking out. He’s stepped down from being a regular on the show, but is still considered a recurring character. He’s still part of the show!

Here’s a link to an article on MTV were Jeff talks about this. Here’s one quote

“Only a few weeks ago, Tyler came by the stages to discuss possible storylines for Derek. While Tyler may no longer be a series regular, don’t count Derek Hale out just yet. It’s never easy to lose a series regular on the show, but it always comes from a place of respecting an artist — because all artists need to try new things. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing the new characters that Tyler Hoechlin creates, and can’t wait to have him back on our set as well.”

Remember that Dylan Sprayberry was only a recurring character last year and we saw plenty of him. The same goes for Linden Ashby, Ian Bohen, Ryan Kelley, JR Bourne, Melissa Ponzio and many more. Extremely important characters but still not regulars.

And if Tyler wanted to leave Jeff wouldn’ve let him go. He’s done that before as we all know. It sucks for the show, but he puts the people behind the characters first and that is a rare thing in this business. So if Tyler is now a recurring character we can expect to see him again. Perhaps his storyline will even be more powerful for it?

athenadark explained in a couple of posts last night - as a regular you’re contracted to appear in a set amount of episodes or scenes. As a recurring character that number is much lower, say 5 scenes/episodes. But that is just the minimum - often it is more. Right now we have no clue how much on-screen Derek we can expect, but according to the reports so far there will be some. I’m prediciting more towards the end of the season/middle of the season when shit is hitting all the fans and they might need to call in Derek to help them.

It does look like the schism all of the meta writers have been talking about is coming in a big was, and i wouldn’t be surprised if Derek would have an important role to play there. athenadark has this great meta on how derek, stiles and scott all seem to shift around the roles they play. If one is on the rise another one is “victim” and the third a “villain”. It would fit that Derek for once can come in and help stabilize the situation or be of support for one. Stiles has come for Derek many times, and has anchored Derek. I think it’s Derek’s turn to do the same for Stiles. Here’s a link to the meta that explains the triumvirate of roles better.

In conclusion we definitely need to prepare for Derek not being as huge part of the story as we’d expected - at least on screen. But you can still be a part of the story even if you’re not on screen all the time. Am i disappointed, yes. But this does not stop sterek in any way. The only thing that would stop sterek is if Derek or Stiles died. Stiles still has a lot of shit to work through with Malia, with his somethingness, with his sexuality, with his relationship to both the sheriff and scott.  And who’s to say that sterek isn’t it a thing already? It’s been six months. Perhaps it’s on the down low. Perhaps Stiles understands why Derek needs to go away. Maybe it will be revealed to us towards the end of the season that they’re a thing? That is prime fanfic material at any rate :)

The bottom line is, we don’t know. Panicking about it isn’t helping. We need to wait, see and then judge and then either rejoice, rant or rave :) But it is of course perfectly okay and understandable that people are disappointed by this. We care about these characters after all.

anonymous asked:

Hi. can you help me like Sansa? I know she has been through a lot, and that she is one of the "good" guys, but I can't bring myself to love a bully. I want to like her, but for me she is still the girl who bullies her 9 year old sister, lets her friends bully her, says she wants her dead etc. (Know that even though I dislike her I don't want her to suffer, I want't her away from LF etc)

Well, first I want to say that there’s nothing wrong with not liking Sansa- or any character. As long as you’re not posting hate in the tag or insulting people for their preferences, you’re good. No one should make you feel like less of fan just because you don’t like their favorite.

Sometimes you just don’t like a character. They bore you, they’re uninteresting to you, they bother you- it’s all good as long as you’re not mean about it in my opinion. So don’t feel bad! <3

Now about Sansa, well, we’re in agreement about wanting her the hell away from Littlefinger and not suffering. And you know what? I agree with you, she did bully Arya. She was in a position of power over Arya because she was two years older and the other highborn girls at Winterfell took their cues from her. I’m not disagreeing with you. Had she put her foot down, I’m sure Jeyne wouldn’t have been so cruel to Arya (the taunting about Mycah’s death comes to mind) because Jeyne especially seemed inclined to follow Sansa’s example.

All that being said, I’m going to tell you why I personally as a self-proclaimed bully hater isn’t bothered by it.

When I was in middle school and the beginnings of high school, I was bullied a lot. These girls formed an anti-Andy club and plotted the steps to ruin my life and murder me in their homeroom. They got over half the grade to join their club. To this day I can’t read about people getting bullied even in fiction without becoming distraught. I remember I read Looking For Alaska by John Green because I was curious about the hype and didn’t cry at all about the *spoilers* suicide. I did, however, bawl hysterically from the first two pages describing the mother throwing a going away party for the narrator despite his attempts to dissuade her saying no one would come. She made all this food and no one came after all. I was sobbing reading it.

But here’s the thing, there’s a big difference between bullies as in the girl who hazed me in sophomore year of high school and those girls I described earlier and “bullies” in the siblings to me. I’m going say that this is not always true, if your siblings harass you and hurt you, that’s not okay. But in my experiences, things can get really messy with close-in-age sisters when they’re young and immature.

And Sansa was immature when she was dealing with Arya. So was Arya. Neither of them understood much about the world or even each other at that point. When I was their age (11 and 9) my sisters and I could be brutal. I’m the middle child, so I have been the younger and elder sister, and that makes it easier for me to relate to both Sansa and Arya in my opinion. Now, my older sister and younger sister are two of my best friends- but it took years for us to get there. The forced competition that comes with being close-in-age and siblings combined with spending so much time together took its toll. Now though? We’re incredibly close.

Sansa and Arya’s conflict stemmed from a lack of understanding. I discuss it here, but basically Arya believed that Sansa was out to show her up and took pleasure in her clumsy attempts to please Septa Mordane and their mother. After all, Sansa seemingly effortlessly was able to earn their praise while all Arya could do is fail. On the other hand, Sansa believed that Arya purposely went out of her way to screw everything up for her. She thought that Arya was trying to make a scene and embarrass her, which was also wrong.

They were only nine and eleven years old, and they couldn’t understand each other. They said things they didn’t mean and were occasionally cruel. I fully believe that they would have grown out of that, and if they were able to communicate, they would have been able to work out their issues.

Now maybe you don’t have sisters or have sisters and just had a better relationship with them, so it doesn’t work for you, but that’s why I don’t hold it against Sansa. Do I think Sansa should have refrained from calling Arya “stupid”, “ugly”, “Arya Horseface” and all that? Yeah, but she was also an emotional eleven year old who honestly believed Arya was out to get her. I mean when I was eleven I definitely did bad things, stupid things, and even unintentionally mean things.

So for me, that’s why I still like Sansa anyway. In fact, I love Sansa, I see a lot of aspects of myself in her occasionally. If you look through my Sansa meta tag, you can find more.

Hope I was able to help <3
