Your steps and Steve’s are the only sound breaking the solemn silence of the royal hall. He has tried to stablish a cordial conversation with you but you are just focused on his previous words.

“We have to prepare you for your wedding”

Well, damn, you had totally forgotten about your part of the deal. You are about to get married, and with a stranger.

- Are you okay? - Steve asks you softly

- Yes… - he doesn’t believe it, you neither

Before he can keep persuading you a tall young woman crosses paths with you and Steve, her eyes blown open when she looks at you

- Sila, what a happy coincidence - Steve greets her

- Sir - with a serene smile she bows at him

- We were searching for you

- Hi - you salute the, now you can sense, omega

- Hello - she then looks at you, and you feel like she knows you from somewhere else, and she doesn’t like you

- Well, Sila, this is Y/N, Y/N, Sila - Steve introduces you - She will be the one who will help you with the wedding arrangemetns and to understand the traditions

- Oh thank you - you breathe relieved knowing that you will be acompanied by a woman in those times of  unrest, and even better if she is an omega

- Sure, Sir - she nods at Steve - Please follow me

Without even looking at you she starts walking undoing the path she just made, you wave at Steve and follow the graceful woman. The air between you doesn’t incite a conversation so you dedicate the time to observe the majestic rooms by which the woman leads you. When you cross one specially decorated with large windows you can’t help but staring at the sunny day outside and at the beautiful clear lake that peeks among the trees near the palace, you make a mental note to visit that beautiful place sometime.

The first night his boyfriend didn’t come back to the dorm, Other Red (Red had already been the name of a student when Other Red was a freshman, and changing your nickname too much wasn’t the best idea) didn’t think much of it. It wasn’t unheard of for one or the other of them to spend a night with friends. But when he wasn’t there the next morning, or in their one shared class that day, Other Red started to worry. As spacey as Frankie Lee could be, he was an avid student. Frankie Lee wasn’t his real name, of course. It wasn’t a surprise to those who knew him that his taken name was musically inspired. He wasn’t answering his phone, either. When there was still no sign of him on the third day, Other Red started asking around. He found what he needed to know pretty soon.

“Yeah, the last time I saw him was a couple days ago.”

“Where was he?”

“Over by the track, by that little wooded area. He had his guitar.”

“He was going towards the trees? Sounds like he was looking for a quiet place to write songs.”

“Wouldn’t surprise me.”

“So he went, alone, into the forest, to play music?”

“Looks like.”

“Shit.”

***

Other Red didn’t waste much time. He packed what he needed, knocked on his RA’s door so someone would know where he was going (and so they’d be better prepared to notice if it wasn’t him that came back), and headed for the woods. All this wasn’t strictly necessary, since the RAs would go retrieve Frankie Lee at the end of the semester, but he might be… different by then, and Other Red didn’t want to wait that long to see him again anyway. He walked right into the shade of the trees, and kept going until he couldn’t see the edge of the woods behind him, though the forest he’d walked into was maybe forty feet across. Nowhere on the Elsewhere University campus was a surefire route to danger, if you knew what you were doing, just as nowhere was 100 percent safe if you were reckless enough, but going under the trees to play music? Other Red had to admit that had been stupid. He loved Frankie Lee, but he could be lacking in common sense.

***

As he went, Other Red reminded himself of a story. There was a smith, so the story goes, who made a deal. Who or what he made the deal with changes from telling to telling, but a popular version calls it the Devil. Other Red didn’t know about devils, but any Elsewhere U student knew there were other things you could make deals with. The smith gave up his soul in exchange for supernatural skill at metal work - the ability to weld anything to anything. When the Devil came to collect, though, the smith welded him to a tree and left him there. It’s an old story, one of the oldest, in fact. It’s been told for six thousand years. The story told Other Red a couple of things. One, that metalwork has always been a little bit Else, and two, that it was one way, maybe the first way we ever found, to get a bit of power over the Gentry. At least enough power to get him out of this.

He hoped it was enough to get him out of this.

***

After a while, he could hear music softly through the trees. He walked closer until he could make out the words:

Then the loud sound did seem to fa-a-ade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of pha-a-ase
That weren’t no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive
There’s a starman waiting in the sky
He’d like to come and meet us
But he thinks he’d blow our minds…

Other Red could practically see Frankie Lee, eyes closed and head nodding the way he did when he got into his music. He’d smile, and, if he wasn’t playing too, wave his hands slowly like the music was the only thing in the world. Then Other Red reached the clearing where the music was coming from, and he did see Frankie Lee, sitting and playing at the feet of the member of the Court that had taken him.

Less Starman, Other Red thought, and more Thin White Duke. Thin he certainly was, or maybe a better word was long, half again Other Red’s height with his legs - how many knees was that? - stretched out from his seat, which was carved from an enormous tree stump into intricate, disturbing patterns. He was pale, with a human face but a goat’s disdainful eyes, and he wore leather armor with what looked like a bronze sword on his belt. Other Red stepped into the clearing.

The Gentleman held up a hand, and Frankie Lee stopped playing, though his eyes had been closed. When he saw Other Red, he perked up and made eye contact with him, but didn’t speak.

“What brings you here?” asked the Fair One with disinterest.

Other Red indicated Frankie Lee. “I’d like him back.”

“And what will you give me not to simply keep you here as well?”

“I have nothing to give you, but I bring the tokens of my craft.” From his bag, he pulled a welding mask and a handful of nails. “I’m a shop student. If you don’t let me leave, there will be repercussions.” He tried to keep his voice as confident as he could.

The Shining One stared at him for a long moment, then sat back. “You may leave whenever you please, smith, but you cannot command me to give up my musician.”

Other Red had been expecting that. “A game, then?”

“A game. Very well.” said the Good Neighbor instinctively, and then, coming to himself, “What game do you choose?”

Other Red pulled out the other thing he had packed, and tossed it towards the Blessed One. “Fifth Edition, no expansions. One session, seventh-level characters, fight to the character death. I’ll see you a week from today at eight.” He bent down to quickly kiss Frankie Lee, then turned and left.

***

He’d afforded a week because, as much as he wanted Frankie Lee back right now, he needed time to find a DM who was willing to run this fight. Eventually, a girl named Tyto agreed to do it, for approximately a shitton of carefully-specified snacks. This wasn’t the first time someone had played D&D with one of the Gentry. Sometimes, as now, students figured it was the best chance they had of getting something out of them. Other Red’s challenge was a little unusual in that regard - most such games were essentially attempts to impress the Shining Ones with your storytelling talent. They had great respect for storytellers, and a skilled DM could easily get into their good books. Sometimes, They took a liking to the game, and played just for the sake of playing. Other Red had heard of a campaign that met once a month, on the new moon, where students regularly played alongside their Neighbors. Other Red wasn’t making this a storytelling competition, though. He wasn’t a DM, and he wanted a contest he could win.

On the appointed night, they set up in the game room and waited. Other Red wasn’t using his regular character, Ambrose the halfling rogue, for this. It was stupid, but he didn’t want to to let Them know even that fictional real name. Plus, he felt that if he did lose the fight, Ambrose might somehow be dead for good. He’d rolled up a human bard just for the occasion. It seemed appropriate.

At exactly eight, the Duke walked in. He looked more human here, though he was still morning-frost sharp and pale. He was wearing a black suit, and had his hair in a long braid. Tyto shifted in her chair as he walked past her. Other Red offered him a bag of Doritos. Ritual was important, after all. “Given without obligation,” he added.

“Most kind,” said the Visitor, as he took the bag and produced his character sheet. Other Red looked over it briefly. Tiefling druid. Made sense.

“Well then,” said Tyto. “Let’s get started. You’re standing in the street of a small town. You’ve just gotten into a confrontation in a tavern and decided to take it outside. Roll for initiative.”

***

The fight started out slow and cautious. Both characters had swords, and their initial actions were simple. Attack, roll for damage. Attack, roll for damage. Attack, miss. Attack… As they played, they drew an audience. Not students. Any student who knew what was happening tonight had made plans far, far away. There was a man with hair the color of the sea. Two identical-looking girls, neither of their hands quite right. When they walked in, they were followed by a fox that sat quietly and comfortably on a chair. They all watched in silence as the players spoke their battle into being.

Eventually, Other Red’s opponent seemed to get tired of this pattern. “I cast Flame Blade,” he said, “and attack with it.”
Now they were playing with magic. Other Red surrounded the druid with a cloud of daggers. The druid turned into an eagle and dive-bombed the bard. The audience began to stir. This was almost as exciting as the real thing. A few of them could remember when Gwion and Ceridwen tried the same routine. The bard cast a spell of fear to send the eagle flying away, and another spell to deal it damage. The eagle became a boar and charged the bard.

That was two. He was out of transformations. This was what Other Red had been waiting for. “I cast Dimension Door,” he announced, “on both of us.”

“O… K,” said Tyto.  “You both move to..?”
“500 feet directly above us. And as we start to fall, I cast Feather Fall on myself only.”

Tyto and the Fair One both stopped as they realized what he’d done. “So,” Tyto said to the Gentleman, “You’re falling 500 feet. Do you have anything that might help with that?”

“I do not.”

“Then if you’re alright with it, I don’t think we need to roll to know that you’re pretty dead.”
“No.” He stood up and offered Other Red his hand. “How inventive. The musician is yours.” He left the room without another word, and the audience followed behind. After a moment, the door opened again and Frankie Lee stumbled in. He was shivering, with snow melting on his shoulders and water droplets clinging to his tightly curled hair. It was sixty degrees outside.

Other Red almost knocked his chair back standing up. He held Frankie Lee tightly for a long time, and then pulled away a little.

“What were you thinking?”

“I know, I know. How long was I gone?”

“About a week and a half. How long did you…?”

“Damn. I was only there for a couple of hours. I was starting to run out of Bowie. I tell you what, though, I think I finished that song I was working on.”

“If you finished it while you were There, you should maybe never play that part.”

“Good call.”

The Virus (Extended)

I wrote this again because I believed I could expand the story and see how it go.

***Logs of the late Admiral Elfre”

Personal log 1. I got accepted into the coalition military only as a simple deck serf my main duties are cleaning the vents of vermin that somehow make it onto the ships and breed. I also run messages, it’s good exercise but most of the officers don’t even look at me, I’ll show them I’ll make admiral in not time.

Personal Log 6. After helping engineer Lopya with the engine after being stuck in dead space for nearly a week I was promoted to bridge officer, I mainly work the coms console but it is a step in the right direction, i cant wait.

Personal Log 8. One of our explorer ships has found a new planet, this one is apparently unique and has all our scientists really excited. Not sure how it is unique because I always thought every world in the galaxy was unique but apparently this is one is special. My colleagues are talking about nothing else I might actually keep an eye on the com traffic to see what the fuss is about.

Personal Log 9. Well I read some of the com messages ( I know I’m not supposed to but curiosity got the better of me) and this new world everyone is going crazy over is apparently the only world which can truly be classified as a “Dead World”  But life is not only surviving apparently its thriving. They think their might be intelligent life there, even if the air is toxic and the plant life poisonous and Maker only knows what the animal life is like. I shudder to think of what could survive there.

Personal log 13. The explorer team has gone missing, they were researching a new animal that lived in huge hives and it is believed the creatures may have discovered them. Not sure how I thought they were using this new cloaking technology that makes them invisible? Could these creatures see through it?

Personal Log 14. Workload today was insane, more com traffic than ever, our fleet is being redirected. But on the bright side if I make a good impression the captain might put me on course for deck officer level 2? I can only hope.

Personal Log 16. I’m not sure if this is good or not but our fleet has been chosen to search for that research team that went missing, why we should when we are an explorer fleet not a military fleet. I mean, we only have  handful of actual soldiers on each ship, but then orders are orders.

Personal Log 17. I think I may have made a mistake, the captain wanted a coms officer to go and record to rescue and like an idiot I said I’d do it before I truly thought about it. I’m going to a “Dead world” to find people. I want to live long enough to have wife’s and spawns I don’t want to to go somewhere where i might die. Well I can’t back out now, at least Major Jesa gave me a handgun to use in  case.

Personal Log 18. We landed on the planet at the researchers last known location, we found their base, it was hidden inside one of the hills over looking a herd of fluffy animals that made off “Bahhhh” sounds as they saw us. They were not hostile luckily, we assumed they were prey animals, wee went off to complete our mission. We found one of the trackers the researchers use sot hey don’t get lost, it was badly broken so the log could not be accessed, we bagged it kept on.

Personal Log 19 The nights here are cold, really cold. We set up air tight tents so we did not have to sleep in our suits and even with the heaters we were all shivering. Private Getr joked this was worse than the time he fought against some snow like monsters on a world going through an ice age. i could tell he was not joking, i hate this place.

Personal Log 20. Private Getr’s suit was split yesterday, some plant that has spikes cut his suit and he died in moments, he never had a chance to even seal the split. A pair of his comrades volunteer to take him back to the shuttle and off they go, we are three men down.

Personal Log 21. The rain, so much rain, I mean it’s not unusual for water to fall from the sky but this is just crazy, we all agree not to out today.

Personal Log 22. We saw the natives, or at least what we think are the most dominant natives here. There were three of them, small and running around in one of the fields playing I think, is that playing or were they fighting for dominance? they were quite small and talked to each other in odd clicking noises. Then the older appeared, far larger than their young, they appeared out of the trees not far from us, then one of them started sniffing the air, no way could they smell us could they? We quickly left before we were discovered. But not before we saw the Hive, it was larger than any city I have seen, how many of these creatures were there.

Personal Log 23. Finally some other sign of the research team, an tent, only one but it’s a sign. We call inside but there is no answer, we slowly make our way inside and find what we feared we would.  A body, His skin was the same as privates Getr’s when his suit split, he was holding a note though all it said was. “Run!”

Personal Log 27. Well I’m glad that’s over with and i can get back to my life, that world is now off limits to everyone now and is under strict quarantine level 10. The first planet to get that level. They even named it Kila, apparently it means death in one of languages spoken in the coalition.

Personal Log 30. Since my mission to Kila I have gain more responsibility and just yesterday they are giving me my own ship!! It’s only a snall support ship with a few hundred crew but I’m excited. Captain Elfre, i like the sound of that.

Captains Log 36. I’M BORED!!!! This support ship gets almost no mission, all we do is patrol and help the larger ships move into formation, I want a bigger ship!!!! Or at least something to break the boredom.

Captains Log 38. A whole quarantine fleet went missing a couple of days ago, I instantly knew which one before i even heard the planets name, it was Kila. By the Maker have they made it off the that planet? More fleet are being directed and we are on standby if we are needed. I have a feeling we will be.

Captains Log 40. We are needed, the fleet is heading to the quarantine Kila zone.

Captains Log 41. The quarantine is breached the creatures have built ships and a lot of them, these hive ships were scanned and found our own technology on board. They are using our warp drives, did they figure out of they were built? How? Are these things sentient? We take up position to bar their path and we simply stare at each other, we send message after message to try and open a dialog but there is no response. Then over all our coms, a noise like screaming, is that Getr? Are they in my head? Only one word is truly heard. Hooman, our enemy has a name.  The Admiral orders us to open fire and we unleash our weapons upon them, huge pulse cannons and missiles with enough yield to scorch a planet. Nearly all miss. How could they miss and those that hit seemed to only cause minimal damage. Wait are..their ships healing themselves? We scramble to reload and open fire again but the Hoomans fore first, we don’t recognize what kind of weapons they are using but they cut right through our armor, the flagship goes down having been hit by three separate enemy ships. The other captains are screaming orders or trying to regain some kind of control, I shout over the coms that I cam taking command and order the retreat. The war against the Hoomans, has begun.

Captains Log 50. The Hoomans are spreading and spreading fast, every engagement is the same, they break into real space, our coms go haywire and our fleet gets wiped out. We need a different strategy.

Captains Log 54. I have been given command of a new battleship, it is to be the new flagship of a invasion force into Hooman space. Our scientist have theorized that the Hoomans work on a hive mind command structure and if we wipe out the their main hive world Kila the rest will fall into chaos. I don’t know how they can know that as to my mind no Hooman has been captured alive or dead. But I am eager to go on the offensive for once.

Captains Log 55. Our first victory!!! We engaged the Hoomans on the edge of their space and wiped them out, we left the planet as we needed to save our resources for the homeworld but it felt good to drop a few nukes down there. We can do this, we can win!!

Captains Log 57. The Hoomans never seem to run out of ships, we have assembled the largest fleet in the galaxy and that has got their attention, their advance into our space has halted. I have their complete attention, and that terrifies me.

Captains Log 58. We lost half our ships in the last battle and the flagship is heavily damaged we have taken refuge in an asteroid belt to make repairs but the Hoomans are looking for us. They always know where to find us, they always know.

Captains Log 60. I can only engage the Homans one more time before I have to retreat and i am nowhere near their homeworld of Kila, they always seem to have more ships. The last engagement were boarded by them, I have seen every kind of species in the galaxy and we are all different, some are fast, some are strong, some are smart and so on. But never have I seen a race like them. They only have two arms and two legs which is the lowest number of any rce and it seems to work to their advantage. I saw on the security cameras our soldiers fight them in hand to hand and the Hoomans just danced around them. They moved like water and hit like avalanches, our new directive was never to engage them in close combat, you’d never win. Not that shooting them seems to work either, my bridge was breached by them and i shot one in the head with my pistol and it barley flinched, if it wasn’t for a guard with a blaster i would have been dead. Sadly that moment of saving my life cost him his own, he was hit my one of their weapons and his whole body evaporated. Not sure what is a worse way to die, being touched by one of these things or shot. This invasion is over, I’m ordering the retreat.

Captains Log 62. 2 months, that was all the time I bought while invading their space and once more they are on the offensive, consuming world after world and terraforming it so only they can live there. Trillions are now dead and how much further will they spread before they burn themselves out.

Captains Log 65. Our leaders are panicking, the surviving races are merging all their resources in some attempt to turn this tide. Our pleas of surrender and mercy go unanswered except for the usual response of the com screaming. But on some lighter note I go promoted to Admiral, my life long goal was achieved only because my predecessor shot himself when his homeworld was consumed by the Hoomans, his mate and youngling did not make it of world in time. They now expect me to win this war for them, I don’t know if I can but I am going to try.

Admirals Log 1, My first engagement as an Admiral with the race known as Hooman has ended in our utter defeat, we exited hyperspace right on top of them and they reacted as if they knew we were coming. Are these creatures just super fast or can they see the future? We retreated to Elixal Prime but my few remaining ships will not be enough to hold them off for long. I have already began evacuation but there are not enough ships, they will be here soon,

Admirals Log 5, Elixal Prime is lost, the moment the first of their hive ships arrived we had to abandon any hope of rescuing the population. I can only imagine what horrors they will face. We heard their screams over the com as we left.

Admirals Log 13. I have implemented a scorched earth policy, any world we cannot protect or have to retreat from is scorched to make sure they can’t use it. It will slow them at least.

Admirals Log.16 It did not stop or slow them, in fact it made terraforming the planet for themselves easier so we have abandoned that tactic.

Admirals Log 22. They are spreading faster now, faster than we can track them its like a damn has broken and their entire race is now searching for new worlds to consume. Do they eat their worlds? Is that why they are expanding? for food?

Admirals log 29 the Hoomans have conquered half the galaxy and there are too few of the surviving races with the ships to even try and stop them. Some are talking about surrender. How could we? These creatures are so deadly that even one setting foot on a planet spells disaster as if their whole body was made to house millions of viruses. My old friend was touched by one once, I’ll never forget what happened to him. His skin burned and fell off he bled form every part of his body, his screams, they still haunt me.

Admirals Log 40. Me and the other admirals have agreed that this war cannot be won, we have but one hope, all the survivors of the coalition have gathered in one system. There are only 50 billion left out of a population of thousands of trillions. But our scientists have built a war winning weapon, a huge beam cannon that can destroy fleets. It is very experimental as if uses the power oft he sun to fire. The plan is to use it to defend against the Hoomans in this system indefinitely, let them have the galaxy surely they will let us have one small system?

Admirals Log 50. I was wrong about the Hoomans letting us live here, because here they are, but there is only one hive ship just sitting there watching us. My ship is placed directly opposite it, Im sure i can take on one ship but I know, that silently out there, his friends are watching. Once more our coms go nuts, i turn it off, i have had enough of listening to the sounds of my comrades die over and over again. I open fire and before the munitions hit the Hooman hive ship turns and enters hyperspace. He’ll be back.

Admirals Log 60. The Hoomans are back and it seems they have brought their entire fleet with them, My fleet has over 5000 ships of varying classes and the new solar cannon we built. Just a little closer, i oder the cannon to fire and millions of miles behind my fleet the solar cannon unleashes the power of the sun at the Hoomans. Then…wait? No this is not possible the Hooman fleet is moving and a new kind of ship is taking the lead…it’s huge almost the size of a moon and it is moving to intercept the beam. The solar cannons beam hits the new hive ship but…it does not do what they said it would. It is supposed to destroy the ship then the beam jumps tot the nearest ship and destroys that one and so on. But the ship is…is…absorbing it? the light is dancing around the hive ship and then suddenly fires from the tip, oh no it’s heading for one of the planets! It hit the planet the solar cannon was orbiting and it erupts and breaks apart. 20 billion souls all gone in an instant. Screaming I order to open fire, all 5000 ships unleash our firepower at the Hoomans, with so many ships and so many targets it’s hard to miss. The battle last only an hour.

Admiral’s log , We’ve lost, our final stand began an hour ago, 3 thousand ships gone, in an hour!!! How could such a race even exist? I sit here reading reports of what their world is like, no wonder they turned out like they did out of all the worlds in the galaxy this one has to be the most hostile one. I’m not going down without a fight though.

Admiral Efre grabbed his rifle and locked his log in the hopes that it might be found by someone who could read it and remember the struggle the galaxy went through. Perhaps in a couple of millennia when the Hoomans have died out. The Hoomans were cutting through the door now, his soldiers all got to their feet and readied their rifles. The pride he felt for them, even in their final moments they were defiant, even though there was nothing and no one left to save.

The door blasts open and we open fire, like before the Hoomans shrug off our shots like they were pebbles, a few go down but it doesnt stop the others. The run into us and…and? They’re not killing us By the Maker they want us alive! Are they going to eat us? One grabs me with its gloved hand and forces me to my knees alongside my soldiers and another enters like the others of it’s kind inside a sealed suit. It lowers itself to look me in the eye and raising a visor to show it’s face.

They’re disgusting, their faces…the proportions are all wrong and only two eyes? How could they see so well with only two eyes? The nose is pitiful in size I can only imagine how strong it was. And the skin, it looks wet like oil, is it acid?

Finally it speaks and the words put the chill of death into me.

“We were only trying to say hello”

summary “What do you do if you’ve discovered your best friend’s biggest secret but kept the fact that you knew from them?”

He keeps giving her this look, one that told Marinette that he knew something, that she was out of the loop on something. One that she could never decipher, no matter how hard she tried.

a/n because i wrote this so long ago, and never posted on tumblr. so here you go, one and half a year over due

this is part of a companion piece (both are one-shots)

enjoy some fluff

She didn’t know what to think about this friendship with Adrien.

Marinette was pretty sure it began when they were 16 and had coincidentally met at one of the cafes outside of school. She had just finished defeating an akuma and ducked into one of the alleys squished between shops to transform back. When Marinette walked out, she met head-to-toe with Adrien Agreste.

Obviously, Marinette blushed massively and managed to stammer out a “A-A-Adrien!” before he smiled and began conversing with her. Apparently he had just been at a photoshoot and was planning on going home before the akuma fight had broken out. He had hidden in the cafe for shelter. Marinette nodded, saying she did similar but didn’t elaborate. Smaller lies were simpler, after all.

Then from there on, they kept on meeting. Coincidentally.

He was planning on buying a book from the local bookstore. He was thinking of trying organic pineapples sold at a farmer’s market. He was checking out the flowers sold at the front of a magazine stand. “For a friend” he had said and she never really thought twice about why he was shopping for bouquets at a magazine stand.

She never really questioned it, because it was none of her business. To say she wasn’t curious was a lie but Marinette respected Adrien enough not to intrude on his privacy.

But it kept coming.

They started to talk to each other and hang out after akuma attacks. It didn’t happen all the time, but often enough for Marinette to wonder if it was really just coincidences.

“It’s not like he’s stalking me,” Marinette told Tikki one day, laughing. Her kwami replied with a sliver of a smile.

Some thoughs about yatori

Hey guys. This is something that i wanted to do a long time ago.. and here it is! As you all know, Yato and Hiyori are the sweetiest couple ever.. ( in my oppinion xD) and i think everyone knows that Yato has feelings for Hiyori. However, is it just a habit or a real love?

Look at their relationship in the manga:
As you know, Yato has never been in love before. He has never had friends and real family. He was all alone. Everybody that he knew, forgot him. And just one simple day, she appeared in his life like a hurricane. Hiyori changed everything.  If she wasn’t here, Yato wouldn’t know what it means to have a family. He wouldn’t know how to be really happy.  Hiyori is the first human that cares for him. She is the first person who said she wants to be with him longer. Yato hasn’t felt this way before for someone. And what he is doing?

He doesn’t know how to love someone. Yato’s trying to get her attention. He’s jealous when Hiyori is with the other guys. He misses her when she comes home. He tries to be as close to her as possible.
And even…

Yato wants Hiyori to be his wife. He want’s to marry her but why?
What is marriage?
It’s being with someone no matter what. Yato wants to be with Hiyori NO MATTER WHAT. He wants to be sure that she will forever be by his side.

And here is the question.
Is it a real love..
or just a habit?

I think Yato truly loves Hiyori and he doesn’t want to let her go :) ♥
I will support their love as much as i can cause.. you know, he is a GOD.
And she is just a simple human. What if this would be impossible? :( Even so.. why Adachitoka would do all this scenes?
We just have to wait some time to know the answears. ;)

A Father’s Love

Word Count: 2142

Characters: Spencer x Reader, Jude (OC), Joplin (OC)

Warnings: A case of childhood pneumonia, homesickness, fluff, Spencer doubting himself. Please forgive me if I missed anything!

Summary: While Spencer is away on a case, he experiences a bad case of homesickness when your kids are sick.

A/N: This is actually a rewrite of a fic I wrote over on my SPN blog (@hanny-writes-spn) which I then turned into a Spencer fic. I know this is kind of lazy writing, but I wanted to give you guys some material to read… I hope you still enjoy it… :) (Also, I apologize for the names of the kiddos - I’ve been listening to a lot of Janis Joplin lately and just fell in love with the name Jude after watching Jude Law in The Aviator this afternoon… lol)

****

It was the middle of the night, way past your kids’ bedtime, and yet you were still laid out on your living room couch. Your 4 year old son, Jude, was sick with a cold and refused to leave your side, along with your one year old daughter, Joplin. Of course they had both gotten sick at the same time while Spencer was away on a case.

You and Spencer had been married for five years now. You met when you used to work at the library down the street from your apartment. It took him almost a year to approach you and ask you out on a date. Then that one date turned into more dates. And the rest was history.

Attack

hi! let me just say, i love your work SO much! idk if ur open for requests, but could you do reader x spencer where reader is autistic? theyre around spencers age but yet they act super bubbly & stuff & is like a supportive little sister to the bau members. but the thing is, they never tell anyone about their problems or feelings, & so one day while theyre working a night shift with spencer they get overwhelmed by their work & have a panic attack & spenc comforts em. any other detail is fine! ly

I can do this!  I hope you enjoy your one-shot because here it is, comin’ ‘atcha!

You knew you put it in your paperwork when they hired you a couple of years ago, but if they knew no one ever said anything.  You had taken great pains in immersing yourself into society, trying to figure out how to blend in so that people didn’t feel so uncomfortable around you.  You smiled all the time and brought in doughnuts.  Maybe some cookies if you stayed up late to back.

But if they knew, they never mentioned it.

High-functioning autistic is what doctors called you.  But you were more than just your disability.  You had passions and dislikes.  Favorite foods and music you gravitated towards.

Sure, people touching you for long periods of time freaked you out.  You just blamed it on germs and shrugged it off.

Then you met a colleague of yours that was the same way.

You weren’t really sure if he was like you, but he had a lot of the same quirks you did, and you felt comfortable around him.

It was nice, having someone you actually felt comfortable around.

You knew it got worse when you were stressed on a case.  You found ways of decompressing in the bathrooms of police stations, but not before you could see your colleagues’ eyes flicker down to your hands.

Your hands had these ticks, you see?  If you got stressed, you had to touch each finger with your thumb, over and over and over.  The repetition was nice.

1…2…3…4…

4…3…2…1…

The more stressed you got, the faster it became.

You knew he had seen.

Spencer.

The colleague like you.

But, if he had caught on, he didn’t say anything.

“Hold on a sec,” was your usually phrase before you rushed off to the bathroom.

Hold…on…a…sec…

1…2…3…4…

Four was comforting.  Four, the number of people in your family.

Four, the number of grandparents you had.

Four, the age where you can first remember being different.

Four, the number of times you ate during the day.

1..2..3..4…

4..3..2..1…

You loved it when your colleagues came knocking on your door.  You would offer them drinks and they would talk to you.  They would always say they felt compelled to tell you everything, and you would take their hand in yours and rub light circles in one direction before switching to the other direction.

1…2…3…4…

Then switch.

Night after night, over the phone or at your kitchen table, you listened.  And pretty soon, all of them relied on you to have someone to talk to.

And you liked it.

Being relied on instead of doing the relying.

Re…li…a…ble…

1…2…3…4…

But one night was different.  One night, you stayed up a little too late and got called in a little too early.  One night, you forgot to do your laundry and repack your go-bag.  One night, you went to work in your pajamas instead of in clothes.

And they stared.

They all stopped and stared.

And your mind began to whirl.

There were more than four people and more than four sets of eyes.  There were more than four cups of coffee and more than four windows in the room.  You checked all the windows to make sure there weren’t four snipers, and you saw all of the folders and realized there were more.

More than four.

Why was everything suddenly greater than four?

Why did it suddenly matter?

You felt the air leave your lungs as your face started to pale, and your eyes began to widen as your hands began to tremble.

Air…face…eyes…hands…

1…2…3…4…

You felt a pair of hands on you as you sucked in a shallow bout of air.  Two hands were less than four and 10 fingers were more than four but you couldn’t figure out how to get four hands and only four fingers and still feel rooted to the earth that spun at 1,040 mph.

It was missing a 2…

Missing a 3…

1…2…3..4…

4…3…2…1…

“Breathe in with me,” you heard a voice say as a warmth pressed into your cheek.

“1…2…3…4…hold…and 4…3…2…1…” the voice commanded.

Four.

Four sounded nice in that voice.

“In…2…3…4…hold…and out…3…2…1…” the voice soothed.

Your fists tensed into fabric that you didn’t realize you were clutching.

“Sorry, we’ll go back,” the voice soothed gently as a pair of hands ran up and down your back.

“1…2…3…4…” the soft voice counted as your breathing slowly returned back to normal.

“4…3…2…1…” the soft voice chanted as your grip slowly began to release.

A shirt.

You were gripping a shirt.

Grip…ping…a…shirt…

1…2…3…4…

You felt your mind slowly clear and your feet root back to the ground.  You felt your body grow stable as you let out a relieving sigh.

And those hands continued to caress your back.

“1…2…3…4…” the voice calmly chanted.

And you looked up into the eyes of your colleague, Spencer.

The colleague who understood.

“4…3…2…1…” he chanted with a comforting smile on his face.

You looked up into his eyes.

1 pair of eyes.

2 different eyes.

But when you saw your reflection in his eyes, you saw a pair staring back at you.

2 pairs of eyes.

Four different eyes.

1…2…3…4…

You smiled up at him as he dropped his hands into yours.

And just like you had done with him and everyone else on so many nights at your house, his thumbs traced light circles on the back of your hands as he held your gaze without saying a word.

1…2…3…4…

…and switch.

Request: Hey! I’m so excited about you writing The 100 imagines, so can you do one where the reader is really sassy and badass so bc of that Bellamy becomes really interested in her and when he tries to flirt with her or something she ignores him or says sassy things so that makes him even more interested and there is a point where the reader and Bellamy won’t stop flirting so everyone is like “ugh, just stop and kiss already” and you can decide the end 😂 I’m sorry if this is too long. Thanks! Ily 💕

Warnings: some swears (only ones they use in the show)

Sorry the intro is like super long! Hope you guys don’t mind! Also the __ lines are kinda like time skips, so not all of the events are happening at one time.

You sat in your small room by yourself, tears littering your pale cheeks and a painful aching in your chest. You fiddled with your fingers in hopes it would distract you from the sadness in your heart, but it’s hard to ignore a heavy heart. You jumped slightly when you heard a knock on the door and you quickly brushed away your tears with you fingers and sniffled. The door opened and your mother walked into the room. She had bags under her eyes and her hair looked greyer than it ever had before.

“Hey sweetheart,” she greeted as she ran a veiny hand through her hair and sighed. “How was your day?”

“It was fine.” You replied but your voice cracked, giving you away almost immediately.

Your mother turned towards you and just the sight of your watery eyes had her seated beside you with her arm wrapped around your shoulder in seconds. “What is it?”

“Why was dad floated?” You sniffled as you looked at your mother. You swore you saw something break behind her tired eyes.

Imagine Ivar being the one who wants to take over your kingdom

Summary: You’re the daughter, princess and an heir to the throne. One night you sneek out to see the man who stole your heart. But you get interrupted by vikings and especially the man in the chariot leave a wrong first impression.
Words: 1964

You sat before the altar on your knees, the small cross you always wore neatly folded between your hands while you were praying to the lord Christus. It was a soft murmured that came over your lips, before you opened your eyes and looked up to the statue that was hanging on the wall. “Amen.” You wispered while making a cross sigh with your hands. You stood up and walked in silence out of the little church you had, back home. As a princess you were admired by your people, everybody nodded at you, bow or speak to you with ‘my lady’ or ‘your highness’. You hated that part of your life a little, always being the example towards your people. Playing by the rules and things like that. You wanted something adventurous for a change but there was hardly something here. When you walked through the gates you found your father walking over the courtyard, he saw you and stopped.
“Where have you been?” He asked you.
“Praying father.” You answered him with a soft polite voice. He didn’t got further on the subject and you walked besides him to the dining room where servants just briging on the food.
“Just in time.” Your father smiled. You were his oldest daughter, the rightfull heir to the throne he had. Your brother came in and took his pleace on the table so you followed.
“I’m going hunting tomorrow.” You brother said. You putted a piece of chicken in your mouth and slowly started to chew while looking at your father.
“That’s a great idea, you can use the experience.” He nodded.
“Can’t I come?” You asked. Both your father and brother looked at you as if you said something really stupid before they began to laugh.
“You’re a girl Y/n.” My father laughed. You pointed your eyes back to your dinner, ingnoring their laughter.
“My Lord,” You looked up to the guard who walked in. It was hard to behave like you didn’t know him when you were in fact a lot closer to him. You smiled behind your hand while looking at the handsome face Hendrick had.
“What is it?” My father asked.
“The great heathen Army conquered Wessex, it will be a matter of time before they come raid here.” He explained. Your smile disapeared and you looked at your father, he nodded practical.
“Double the guards, set in a curfew for the people. That heathen army will not take over my land.” He nodded strongly. Hendrick bow and gave you a fast gaze before he walked out again. You looked back at your father. “Not hunting, you two stay in the castle from now on.” He commanded the both of you. Great, in so far the adventure you were seeking.

You couldn’t take the risk to be seen so you wore your most neutral dress and a black cloak when you slipped out of the building. You had to see Hendrick one last time before that heathen army would take over the place. You father was confident that he could resist them but if they took Wessex, who had dubble the defenses your father had, what should stop them here? You lurked from behind the wall to the gates, soldiers everywere so you had to find another way to get out. You climed up a wooden shed that gave you acces to the wall. You smiled a little about the adventure you currently had. When non of the guards was looking you let yourself fall on the other side of the wall, running in to the woods. You picked your dress up while carefully walking through the woods to a big shed behind the fields. Hendrick his brown horse stood bound on a pole, trembling a little out of fear when you arrived. You pushed the door under a loud crack open and looked for the guard that stole your heart. “I didn’t thought you would come.” He said. You walked over to him, he pulled you against his body in a tide embrace.
“Do you really think that an heathen army and some extra guards will stop me from seeing you?” You asked smilling. He cupped your face and kissed you tenderly.
“This could be our last time together.” He wispered. You looked at him, in the dim light of the torch his face was more beautifull than ever.
“Than we should make the best of it.” You answered while biting your lip.
“We are Christians Y/n, we shouldn’t do this before marriage.”
“But if it is our last time, who would care? I love you Hendrick.” You pulled on his belt and he smiled in mischief. But for you could go any further you heared his horse calling out, you also heared something else. You looked over your shoulder towards the door. “You heared that?” You asked. Hendrick pressed his lips against your neck, give a little bite and you forgot your surrounding already. His belt felt on the ground when the sheddoor flew open with a load crack. You turned around and looked at … Vikings.

You yelled when they pulled you with your hair back outside. “Y/n, don’t say a word.” Hendrick yelled at you.
“He is a guard, kill him.” One of those men said. You looked at Hendrick while they slitting his throat without any form of mercy. You started to fight back, yelling, crying. “Silent you.” The man grinned, covering your mouth so you couldn’t yell anymore. And even if you could, they wouldn’t hear you, you were way to far from home.
“It’s a long time since we saw a nice looking slavegirl like you.” One of the vikings grinned. Your eyes filled with fear you looked how one of them trew of his belt, opening his pants.
“She isn’t a slave. Leave her.” Somebody said. You looked at the chariot with the white horse in front. You looked at the man who sat on it, piercing blue eyes, a face covered in blood and anger.
“She looks like a slave.” One of the others said. It was clear that the man on the chariot was in charge of the small group.
“That aren’t slaveclothes. And a slave wouldn’t come all the way out here to fuck a guard.” He pointed towards Hendrick. He was challenging his men, the most of them looked away or nodded, the man who was on his way for raping you looked back.
“I saw here first, I want her.” And as a reaction on that the man in the chariot drew his axe and trew it right at the other Viking, hitting him in the chest. The viking felt dead within seconds.
“Somebody else who wants to challenge me today?” He asked harshly towards the other men, their felt a long silence and the man in the chariot nodded satisfied before looking at you. “She’s mine.” He said with a smile, the fear you already had overcame the rest of your body.

They had a camp a couple of miles from your fathers kindom, they were closer than you thought … and they were smaller in numbers to. “I have word from your brothers that they will move north from Wessex.” You heard some of the man say to the man in the chariot. You have heared the stories of the viking Ragnar Lotbrok, he had sons and they were all here now. You looked at the ground but you felt the piercing eyes of that man right through you. You slowly looked up at him, he looked at you rather amuses.
“What are you? A princess?” He asked you. Your hand was folded around the little cross around your neck. “And a Christian.” He nodded before he looked at the other men. “Bring her to my tent.” He commanded them. They pulled you forward between the other vikings in. They all looked at you and maybe you should be glad that that men took you for himself, otherwise there wouldn’t be much left if they all did their thing with you. They bound your hands together, sat you secure on a pole in his tent. And then he came in … or rather he crawled in. You looked over his body to his legs who just laid there while he pulled his body further. “Never seen a cripple before?” He asked. You looked back at the ground, determined to be silent the whole time. He crawled towards you, pulled a knife. In fear you started to back away from him, he only laughed about it before cutting your restrains. “You can run away,” he pointed towards the exit while holding his head tilted. “But I told them that if you do they could have you. By the looks of it you never had a man before, can tell you that we vikings have a slightly different approach.” He explained amused. You let your fear and emotions not in the way of looking at him with a sort of confident. “Or you can stay here, give me some information, please me instead.” That was the deal you got from him. Your eyes gazed to the exit before looking back at him, you didn’t move. “Good choise.” He grinned. He pulled two cups and filled it with something you didn’t knew. He offered you one but you didn’t take it, you just watched. “Do you have a name?” He asked without looking up from his cup. He brought it to his lips and drank it out in one go. When he looked at you again his eyes were a little impatient. He was handsome … despite for the legs. He wasn’t that hard to look at.  “I killed my brother a couple of days ago so I’m not in the mood for your silence treatment. You gonna talk, if your want it or not.” He threatened. He killed his own brother? Why would he do that? Maybe he was lying, to get you to talk. So you lifted your chin a little, stubborn like always. His grinn disapeared and you swallowed the fear away. “Is it not a Christian thing, to put you on a cross if you didn’t obay the rules?” He asked rather silent. He putted your cup away and moved closer, catching your hand before you could pull it away. He forced your hand flat on the ground and pierced his knife right through the middle of it. You started yelling tried to pull away but he was so strong. “Like this?” He asked, looking a you with that grinn on his face you discust.
“Please.” You begged him softly, tears rolling down your face. He pulled his knife out of your hand, watching your blood sinking into the earth before he looked at you wet face.
“Hush now, I told you I wasn’t that patience.” He wispered while running his fingers over your cheek. You closed your eyes, trying to ignore his fingers over your skin. “Tell me, what’s your name?” He asked.
“Y/n. I’ m the princess.” You answered him quietly. You opened your eyes, looking at him. “And yes, I’m the heir to the trown, so if you want to bargain with me for surrender, it might work.” You get further. The cripple pulled back, smiling like an idiot.
“I’m not gonna bargain, you didn’t heared what I said before, you’re mine now.” He petted you on the knee and you only could stare to him while he ripped some fabric apart and start wrapping your bleeding hand. “Sorry for that, have anger issius that need working on. I’m Ivar by the way.” He looked up at you, still whit that cocky irritante smile of his. “Nice meeting you Y/n.” He said.

unfairy tale.

No one knew for sure when it started but from a very young age, you’ve been told about how princesses were rescued by courageous men; about how madly they fell in love for each other within a shared glance and spent the rest of their lives in what had been described only as a happily ever after.

You wondered what it looked like. Perhaps it was just like portrayed on the TV - a big, elegant wedding that was quickly followed by flashes of their lives as parents. Maybe it was pretty much closer to your reality - giggles and swearing in the kitchen of the house you grew up, announcing that your father stole a taste of the dinner way before he was supposed to. Or even like you learned on history books - the ruler couple driving the kingdom to prosperity and happiness.

But, above it all, you wondered if you’d have a prince of your own. According to your parents and uncles, you were a princess and quite often were treated like that so you had to have one, right? Right. You had no doubt about that: at that very moment, in a place you didn’t know about just yet, there was a prince coming for you.

It was a matter of time for you to start wondering about his arrival. If he’d wake you up with a kiss or climb up to your window in order to save you. If he’d fearless cross land and sea for the sake of his one true love and fulfill what fate had planned for the two of you.

Endless hours were spent daydreaming about your own intransferible charming prince and what there was in store for the two of you. Countless nights met you kneeled at your bedside as you whispered to God a sincere request to keep your prince safe - and to keep hair in his head for much longer than He kept in your father’s.

After a while, you learned how to manage your eagerness and to pray for some patience as well, only to lay your head in the pillow later on with a huge smile on your face as you could barely wait for the day you’d meet your already so beloved prince charming.

You were thirteen when you first saw him.

Pet Release Ritual & Jar Spell

A couple weeks ago I had to say goodbye to my beloved cat of 17 years, and it was one of the worst days of my life. She was a part of me as much as my own limbs, and I knew that I would need to pay my respects to her in some kind of formal way. I wasn’t satisfied with pet release rituals I’d found online, so I created my own. I sincerely hope that no one will ever have to use this, but if you do, I hope it brings you some peace, or at least puts you on the path to getting through your grief. This ritual is in three parts, but not everyone will be able to do the first part. That’s okay. Do what you can, take parts of this and make them your own, etc. The more personal to you, the more powerful.

Part One: Keepsakes & Intent

This part of the ritual is meant to be done in the time leading up to your pets passing.

For yourself: If you have a beloved pet and you feel that their time may be coming soon, you might consider creating a salt dough mold of their paw print to keep. I’ve found that these are much more meaningful if you create it yourself while your pet is still alive (if you have the chance), rather than letting the vet make you one. If you make it yourself, you can add your intent into the dough. Kneading it can be therapeutic as well.

Recipe for Salt Dough:

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup salt
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbs herb(s) of choice [some herbs/flowers that are good for comfort could be cinnamon, roses, or chamomile]
    • Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
    • Mix all dry ingredients first (flour, salt, herbs)
    • Gradually stir in water until the dough begins to form.
    • On a floured surface, knead dough until it is firmed up and workable. Using a rolling pin or cylindrical object, roll out your dough. Use a round cookie cutter or rounded bowl (consider the size of your pets paw when choosing a shape) , cut out as many circles of the dough as you think you’ll need.
    • Gently, press your pet’s paw into the dough. This may take a couple attempts until you’re satisfied with the way it looks. As you do this, think about the love your pet has given you over time, and imagine some of that love being pressed into the dough.
    • Bake for 2 hours, or until dough is hardened. After it cools down, you can paint it or write your pets name in Sharpie.

Keep it with you, or make it into an ornament or decoration. When you need to feel a little part of your pet’s love, hold your palm to it and remember their paw pressing into the dough, how their love is sealed into it.

For your pet: Think about your pet’s favorite things: places, toys, blankets, etc. Take some time to enchant those areas or items with some loving intent - that your pet will feel at peace and comfortable during their last days whenever they lay in their bed or sit with their toys.

Personally, I enchanted my cat’s favorite blanket, and on her last day with us, she spent the entire day resting on it, and she was still on it when she passed. I know she was comfortable and felt safe in her last few hours. Of course, the blanket was in my lap all day, which helped too. It’s important to spend as much time with your pet at the end as you possibly can - they deserve that for loving us. Even though it’s hard, it’s an important part of the entire process.

Part Two: Ritual of Release

This part of the ritual is meant to be done after your pet has passed.

Around sunset, when the light is soft, make yourself a little altar for your pet, and conduct this passing ritual. Make sure that you can be alone for a good chunk of time and you’ll be undisturbed. This is basically a small funeral for your pet, and it is meant to be extremely personal so that you can begin to grieve.

My ritual was extremely simple. You can follow what I did or create your own using what you have. To follow mine, you will need:

    • one tealight candle (to represent your pet’s life)
    • a picture of your pet (to invoke memories)
    • amethyst pieces (to aid in meditation & balance emotions)
    • one piece of tumbled rose quartz (for comfort - not required but it helps to have something to hold)
    • vanilla incense (attracting love, aids in memory) - or any scented incense or candle that brings you comfort
    • calming music
    • tissues (you’re gonna need them, trust me)

Place the photo of your pet in the middle of the space. On top of that, set your tealight candle. Surround the photo and candle with the amethyst pieces, like a sort of crystal grid. Play your calming music. Once you’re all set up, light your incense and then take a few deep breaths. Next, light your candle and hold your rose quartz for extra comfort if you need it.

Now you’ll take time to meditate on your pet - fond memories, what you loved about them, etc. Let yourself cry if you need to. There is no limit to this - take as long as you need to. Crying is cathartic - letting yourself feel these strong emotions will aid the grieving process. When you’re ready, you can move on to the next part.

After meditating on your pet, take some time to talk to them, as though they were still right there with you. It helps to look at their picture during this time. Tell them how much you love them, how you will never forget them, that you are sorry for what happened to them, and that you are releasing their spirit from this world - that you are letting them go. It may be helpful to recite something like this:

Dear ____________, as dust returns to dust, so now does your spirit return to the earth. May you be at peace forevermore.

Recite that as much as you need to, or keep talking to your pet, until you feel that shift of energy around you that lets you know the ritual is over. I also took a moment to thank God for putting her in my life in the first place, and for letting me keep her as long as I did.

Either let your candle burn down on its own, or blow it out yourself.

Part Three: Spell Jar for Grief

This final part is a spell jar, to aid in the process of grieving your pet. Even if you’ve done the ritual and released them, there is still a process of grief you have to go through. This spell jar is meant to make that process a little smoother, a little more bearable.

  • Components:
    • sea salt (purification, protection)
    • herb to represent your pet (ex: catnip for cats, cumin [represents loyalty] for dogs, etc)
    • lavender (peace)
    • rose petals (love)
    • something to represent death - I used black glitter
    • one of the amethyst chips used in the release ritual

As you place each component in the jar, think about your pet and use the following incantation:

Dear one,
I must let you go, as hard as it may be.
But though your spirit may be gone,
I know you are always with me.

Repeat this spell as many times as you need to. Seal your jar with the wax from your ritual candle or another if you don’t have it anymore. Place by your bedside until you feel ready to move past your grieving phase (it may take a long time, but you will know when you’re ready). When you’re ready, bury the jar either near your pet’s grave if applicable or somewhere in your backyard to seal your decision to let go.

A Story About Shaw

(AN: About two weeks ago I posted Destinations, a story about Root and liminal spaces. I knew I wanted to do a companion piece for Shaw, but I couldn’t figure out the theme. The phrase that kept coming to mind was negative space, but it took me awhile to figure out why my brain settled on that. The result was quite different from Destinations, but it kinda had to be. Silhouette was…much harder to write and might be more polarizing than the last for a couple reasons, but nonetheless I hope you enjoy it).

After the accident, Shaw comes home one day to find a framed picture in her bedroom. It’s a photograph of herself from a few years ago. In it she sits solemnly between her mother and father who are both smiling, laughing. Her father’s hands is resting on her shoulder.

Shaw is puzzled, unsure why her mother chose to put this picture on her dresser. By this point she’s realized that people surround themselves with photographs to feel connected; the photos are a reminder of the things pictured in them, a shortcut to the emotions those things evoke.

The day the picture shows up on her dresser, all solemn in its heavy black frame, Shaw stares at it, trying to understand what her mother expects her to do with it. She’s…not content with her father’s absence, but she’s not sure how a picture is supposed to help. She stares at it for hours, but only ends up with a headache.

When she moves to a different, larger room the next year, she leaves the framed photo behind on the dresser. Her mother notices, of course. She doesn’t say anything, but the photo shows up on the desk in Shaw’s new room the next day.

Shaw stares at the picture again, but still comes up blank. Her mother must have had a reason for moving it, so she keeps thinking about it, tracing the implications of the actions and expectations. Tries to understand why it’s so important to her mother that she keep it.

A year later they move to a new house. This time it’s the first thing she packs.

Man oh man! Where do I start?…We met on Tumblr a couple of years ago through the black out. She made a post about studying late so sent a DM later that evening asking her if she was still studying. She didn’t answer until late the next day and we immediately hit it of exchanging poetry and expressing our love for comics. Before I could ask for her number she asked for mine. I’ve never been so comfortable with some one in my life. It was like we were old friends reconnecting. The conversations just flowed on throughout the night and before we knew into the morning. After talking via FaceTime for a while I randomly just came out and said “ you know you’re my girlfriend right?” and without hesitation she replied “ Yes!”… I wasn’t expecting that response (i honestly don’t know what response I was expecting, but i was so hype she said yea). With her living in New York and me in Alabama it became a long distance relationship. It definitely wasn’t easy…but it was definitely worth it. By the time we finally got to visit each other our foundation of communication was so strong it was like we almost grew up together. Being with her has been nothing short of amazing. She is one of the smartest and most caring and loving person I know and she deserves it all. For the rest of my life all I want to do is take care of her, support her, love her, and build a family. She’s truly the best thing to ever happen to me and I thank God for her. I love you baby @elevatementality-mj
You know we getting married right?! Lol😘

A Special Video

“You uploaded a new video?” Y/N asked from the doorway of her and Joe’s bedroom. “When did you even film this?”

“Oh,” He looked over at her, “Uhm, one night while you were out.”

“And you kept it hidden from me?” She teased, moving to sit on the bed, computer in hand.

“It was a special one.” Joe shrugged, pulling her closer so she was sat between his legs.

“Can I watch it now?”

“Of course.” He replied, kissing her shoulder. But he felt a burst of nerves as she clicked on the video, titled How She Helped Me.

She settled back against him as the video started up, and Joe appeared on the screen.

“Hello everybody!” He waved at the camera, “I wanted to do something a little different for today’s video. So fair warning, stuff might get a little deep.” He took a breath before continuing. “I want to tell you about someone special in my life, someone you guys have gotten to know quite well. Her name is Y/N, and she doesn’t know this, but she saved my life.”

Y/N tilted her head to look at Joe quickly, but he kept his eyes locked on the screen.

“I went through a really bad break up a couple years ago.” The Joe on the computer continued, “And it left me in a really bad place. I stopped talking to everyone. My sister, my dad, my mates. I just refused to talk to anyone. I didn’t go out any more either. I kept to myself in my room, barely eating or sleeping, just going through the day. I was depressed. And it was bad. I knew it was, but I refused to acknowledge it.” He took another breath, running a hand through his hair. “One night, it got really really bad. I decided to go for a drive, on my own of course, and it was late. Probably some time around one or two in the morning. It was raining, and I was being reckless. I remember the car skidding, and then spinning. The world around me was spinning, and I thought, this is it. I’m done. But the car stopped, and the rain continued to fall. It took me a a few minutes to calm down, and when I did, I realized that I wasn’t ready to die. I wasn’t ready to give up. This was me getting a second chance. And so I drove home, although more carefully.”

She could feel a wetness on her cheeks, and Y/N knew she was crying, but she remained captivated by the Joe on the screen in front of her.

“The next day, I talked to my dad and Zoe. I went and found help. The day of my first therapy session, I went to grab a coffee after. And I bumped into, quite literally might I add, Y/N. I ended up spilling her coffee.” He chuckled, his smile fond as he remembered that first day, “And after offering to buy her a new one, we ended up talking for hours. It was the first day I felt truly happy. Now, years later, she still makes me feel like that every day. She shows me every day how great life can be, and what it has to hold. I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without her, and I refuse to think about what it would be like. So Y/N, I know you’re watching this, and I want to say thank you. Thank you for taking a chance on the guy who spilled your coffee and then talked your ear off for hours. Thank you for putting me back together without even realizing it. Thank you for bringing a light into my life that I needed. And thank you for making me realize that life is worth living. I love you, Y/N.” He smiled at her before the video faded out to black.

Joe reached around her, closing the laptop and moving it to the side.

“Love?” He spoke softly, waiting as she sat up, shifting to look at him.

“You bloody idiot.” She responded quietly, “I thought I told you to not make me cry from videos.”

He laughed softly, wrapping his arms around her, kissing the top of her head. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t apologize, or I’ll call you an idiot again.”

“You do that almost daily anyways.”

“Only when you deserve it.”

“Cheers.”

Y/N pulled back, looking him in the eyes. “I love you too. Thank you for sharing that.”

“I meant every word.”

“I know you did.” She smiled, leaning in to kiss him softly. “And you didn’t talk my ear off that day.”
