Looking away “I didn’t mean to. At least I don’t think so” she raised a hand to cover her face. “I just did it without thinking. A moment of weakness that’s all. I stopped as soon as I realized.”
He felt a surge of anger welling up inside him. He clamped down hard on it. He knew that it was unreasonable for him to assume others would fight their natural instincts just because he did. He felt her touch on his arm. Looking down at her hand his anger already dissipating “I appreciate you stopping” his voice gruff but devoid of anger.
She blinked “I really am sorry” she murmured as she walked away shoulder slumped in defeat.
Adam resisted the urge to call her back. He disliked seeing anyone upset when he felt it was within his power to help. That impulse had caused him trouble in the past and no doubt would again in the future. With determination he let her walk away his hand resting on the door wondering if he dared for a few short seconds slip outside to enjoy a brief moment in the sun.
