i just stared at her in my driveway like a freak

I’ve been seeing a man in my backyard for the past two nights

Story by reddit user Opinionson

To start I need to give some background:

I am a male who lives in relatively nice neighborhood

It’s your average small town run of the mill suburbs area with not a lot of people.

I am a college kid who’s home on break while my parents have gone away which doesn’t help at all.

I have a two story house

I do not have gun nor do I have any real weapons other than kitchen knives

I am not on any medication and I have no record of schizophrenia or any other mental illnesses

I barely have any relationships with my neighbors most of whom are elderly and the rest I have minimal contact with

I do not have any people in my neighborhood (that I know of) who have reasons to attack or harm me

Now, let’s get into what has been happening. About two nights ago I woke up very late in the night and I went to the bathroom to go take a shit. Now, my second story bathroom has a window that can see the entirety of my backyard. Directly behind it is a cul de sac which you can see directly into. There is a group of trees and pile of rocks and mulch that divides it. Usually I can see everything in my backroom without turning on my because lights from my neighbor’s house dimly lights the room.

With a loud and agitated sigh, I shut my phone off and threw it down on my white bed sheets besides me. I’m beginning to get sick of Justin’s excuses - they’re beginning to make me a little claustrophobic. I need a break.

With yet another loud sigh and the rub of my face, I decided It was time I actually left the house and began my decent down the stairs, into the kitchen where my mother stood wiping the marble bench top.

Not having the energy to converse with her at this moment, I grabbed the keys right off the exact bench she was currently rubbing at and made a dash for the door. “I’m leaving.” I informed her on my way out.

“Alright sweetie!” Mom replied with no fuss and at the approving comment, I was out the door.

I need something to get my mind off things. Just me. No phone, no parents and no Justin. Quickly darted out the house and towards my new white Range Rover which my father bought for my birthday that just passed recently.

As I settled inside and switched on the ignition, I sat for a second debating on where I should go and escape the rest of the day  and at the thought, my stomach made a loud gurgling noise. Guess I’m going out to eat.

With no hesitation, I finally mustered up the perfect place to go and began backing up out of the driveway, beginning my decent down towards a close friend of mine’s shop. Cassy owns a big fancy restaurant down the road from me and always gives me discounts on my food.

The people there despise me considering I always rock up in sweat pants and an Adidas shirt while they all practically parade around in designer dresses and expensive pearls.

Once I arrived, I jumped out of my car and threw the keys to the valet employee. I don’t know why but every time I come here I seem to act like queen shit. It’s honestly kind of hilarious.

I stepped through the large, grand restaurant doors and not even a few seconds later was immediately greeted by Cassy herself, running forward towards me. “Oh my god Y/N, it’s been so long. C'mon lets get you seated.”

With a smile, I obliged to following the girl over towards a table for two draped elegantly in a creme cloth that was decorated with a few flowers and fine cutlery. I placed myself on one side, Cassy seating herself on the other.

She always accompanied me when I come to eat here, it was our little thing. With the flick of her fingers, a waiter came over and took our orders, then left once we were done.

Suddenly she sat right up, a face full of excitement. “You came on the right day my girl.” She smiled and I furrowed my eyebrows at her enthusiasm.

“Why, what happened?” I chuckled.

“Alright,” Cassy began “ Don’t freak out but, guess who made a reservation and is sitting in this restaurant right now?” She squealed

My head quickly jolted up as I glanced around the restaurant. Then my eyes landed on a boy sitting a little further away with a group of people and a rush of adrenaline ran through my body. Justin Bieber! He was my idle though for some reason, I didn’t find myself jumping for joy as I expected too.

“No way.” I whisper shouted. Cassy giggled “Yes way. Apparently today’s his birthday or something.”

Hm, that’s funny. It’s also my friend Justin’s birthday.

“Cool.” I mumbled, turning my head away.

“You should go and talk to him.” Casst smiled but overall I just shrugged “Nah, I wouldn’t wanna disturb him on his birthday. He’s probably just trying to enjoy a nice lunch.”

“Suit yourself.” She shrugged.

It was silent between us for a moment until I decided to stand up and said “I’m going to the restroom.”

An approving hum was sung from Cassy and I found myself strutting my way over to the restroom afterwards. It was a unisex toilet meaning there was a mixture of men and woman in here, but nothing really other than a few old posh white folks who were eyeing me wearily for my fashion choice.

I ignored the stares and found my way into a stall, did my business and walked over to the sinks. By then, everyone else had left the bathrooms and I was found pumping some soap from the dispenser in my hands alone. Just then the door opened.

I looked up into the mirror and spotted Justin Bieber himself walking into the room. He wore nothing but a pair of baggy jeans and loose white fitted T. His hair messily flipped over his forehead and tattoos on full display.

That’s a bold move to pull in a restaurant like this, the oldies hated any inked skin and tended to gossip. But I liked his confidence, kind of like myself.

 I smiled small at him before applying my concentration back on my own hands.

He walked forward over to the sink beside me and began running a hand through his long blonde hair and I watched in awe as his fingers played around with his locks, not realising that I had been staring for a little to long.

He cleared his throat loudly, causing my eyes to dart down to his. “Oh um, sorry.” I muttered to which he chuckled.

 "Nah it’s alright. People tend to stare a lot.“ He shrugged

I turned off the faucet of the gold sink and moved over to grab some paper towels to dry my hands. "Must suck.”

“Yeah.” He replied straightening himself out. Silence overcame the surrounding air for a second as we continued on with our own things, until he suddenly spoke again. “I like you’re style. You do it on purpose?” He smirked.

I knew what he was getting at. The fact that I had actually had the guts to appear in a place of displayed wealth, dressed like this. You wouldn’t do it unless you were trying to piss off the rich people who dined here. He knew too well, because it was obvious he was doing the same.

“You know it.” I nodded. “Its hilarious to see the snobby faces when you walk in. The scowls are priceless.”

He chuckled. “Yeah, I know right?” he agreed.

“I mean, you would know.” I pointed out, glaring back at his outfit.

Justin laughed, glancing down at his choice of clothes and shook his head in humour. “I’ll have you know these jeans are designer.” He teased.

“I’m wearing designer too.” I nodded. “I’m actually wearing Calvin Klein underwear.” I giggled. “That’s as designer as your gonna get with me.”

Justin actually laughed at this, a full blown loud laugh, unlike the chuckles he displayed previously. I giggled along with him snapping the waist band of my underwear to prove my point.

Justin shook his head, finally letting down, and I stepped forward smiling at the handsome man.

“Well, I better go, my friends waiting for me.” I began my way over towards the door but was suddenly held back by a loud …

“Wait!” He yelled. I stopped. “I didn’t catch you name.” He continued.

I smirked, glancing at him one more time, with one hand on the door. “ I think we both know you already know that.”

And with that, I left him in the bathroom, standing there in shock.

That’s right Justin. I caught on.

***

“I better get back to work.” Cassy sighed.

“Yeah, well, I’m done anyways. So I’m gonna leave. Thanks Cass.”

Cassy nodded. “No problems. I’ll see ya later.” She waved. I watched as she made her way into the kitchen, yelling at a few of her employees who were slacking off on the way.

I sighed in exhaustion and waved a hand over to my waiter, who slowly and carelessly made his way over to my table “Yes madam, what may I get you?”

“My tab please.” I smiled.

The man began shuffling through some papers in his hands before turning back to me, eyebrows raised in slight surprise.  "You’re clear.“ he announced.

But I furrowed my eyebrows. "What? But I haven’t payed yet.”

“Curtesy of the man that goes by the name of Justin Bieber. He asked to put your tab on his.”

My eyes winded in slight shock and confusion but couldn’t help the smile that set across my face.

That sneaky bastard.

Justin’s POV

It’s her. It’s really Y/N. She’s so much prettier in person. We’ve been talking for so long and I just couldn’t believe she was actually here in front of me. She knew who I was and didn’t freak out.

I carefully watched as she conversed with the waiter for a little before getting up and walking out of the restaurant, sparing me a glance along the way. She sent me a small wink before exiting the restaurant.

“Jay?” I snapped my head up to look back at Hailey who had been apparently yelling my name.

“Hmm?” I asked.

“Why are you staring at that girl. Stop being a creep and eat.” She demanded.

I chuckled slightly, turning back around to dig into my meal once again. I’ll text Y/N later and figure out what the hell just happened. I want to ask her when she figured it out.

That’s when suddenly, the same waiter who was serving Y/N began making his way over to me. “Mr Bieber, you have a note from the women sitting opposing. I believe her name was Y/N Y/L/N.”

He handed me the note which I cautiously took from his hand and watched as he walked off further into the restaurant.

With curious eyes and cautious hands, I slowly pulled at the folded note and took a peek at the 5 words sprawled across. And subconsciously, a large smile found it way onto my face at the words.

‘You owe me 100 dollars. - Y/N.’

You swallowed thickly as Henry Bowers rounded on you.

“’S just a question. No need to get all squirrelly. There’s no one here to worry about except me.” No. Really?

Your back was pressed against hard, red brick as he loomed over you. You had come to meet Patrick after your last class, only to find the entirety of the Bowers Gang, minus him; the person you came to see, waiting for you.

When you turned that corner, you had made eye contact with Henry, who said Patrick had asked him to take you home instead (not that you believed him for a minute), and patted his lap while looking at you with half-lidded eyes and a smirk. “Saved you a seat” he had murmured.

“What the hell was that, Jensen? Tell me now.” Danneel demands angrily narrowing her eyes.

“Um…she…well…I’ll be right back, ok?”

“What?!”

“Just give me a minute! I have to talk to Jared.” Jensen bolts to his costar’s trailer without waiting for a reply.

“What’s up?” Jared asks when Jensen bursts through his door like a mad man.

“What did Y/N say?”

“About what?”

“Don’t fuck with me right now, Padalecki.” Jensen growls surprising them both.

“I really don’t wanna be in the middle of this, man.” Jared sighs running a hand through his long chestnut hair.

‘Do you really think this is a good idea Jug?’ I’d never felt so out of place. I peered into the window of Pop’s Diner, it was straight out of the 50s. Not a place I’d expect Jughead to frequent. My leather jacket stuck out like a sore thumb as Jughead practically dragged me in. An old man behind the counter, the famous Pop I presumed, greeted Jughead instantly.

‘Usual order Jughead?’

‘Make it for two tonight Pop.’ He nodded back to me, I gave a little wave. He didn’t seem phased by our Southside appearance unlike the rest of the diner. I could feel daggers on me from every angle as we walked over to a booth. Jughead acted coolly, barely taking in all the passing glances. I drummed on the table anxiously.

‘Y/n, you need to calm down.’ He said, grabbing my hands to set them still on the table.

‘Sorry but I can already hear everyone gossiping in here, who’s to say your friends aren’t gonna do the same?’ I had to be honest with Jug, he was a serpent now and there were no secrets between the serpents. Well maybe one.

‘They’re different, they know I’m a serpent now and they know why I chose this path. If they have a problem, they’ve definitely kept it to themselves. They know the serpents are the only family I’ve got now.’ I twitched at the word ‘family’. You weren’t meant to have romantic feelings for your ‘family’.

The bell of the door rang and in walked Jughead’s other gang. A broad shouldered redhead came first, he wore a blazing letterman jacket and had his arm around a black haired girl, her dress looked expensive and she was even wearing heels. That would be Archie and Veronica, Riverdale’s latest sweethearts, I remembered Jughead mention. Behind them, came the beautiful blonde. Her hair was in her signature high ponytail, her face beaming as she got closer to us. She wore a white summer dress and a pastel yellow cardigan on top. While that outfit would usually make me gag, she made it look flawless. If this is what I was up against, I was screwed.

Guilty Secrets

You couldn’t lie to my sister. Not about the big stuff, anyway, the stuff that ate away at you and kept you awake at night. I don’t know if I’d call it a gift or anything, but she had an ability. She could see guilt.

I don’t mean she was good at reading expressions or picking up on body language; she could literally see manifestations of people’s guilt following them around. It started with Whiskey, our childhood cat. Mom said he’d decided to move out to the country to enjoy his old age, but Cassidy kept seeing him lying at Mom’s feet, completely still and stiff.

She asked Mom over and over why Whiskey wasn’t moving until Mom started to sob and admitted she’d had to put our kitty to sleep. She’d felt so guilty about lying and about her “betrayal” to Whiskey, her beloved companion of seventeen years, but she’d wanted to protect us from death for a little while longer.

In her grief, Mom didn’t think to ask Cassidy how she’d known the truth.

I’m having your baby, and it’s none of your business.”

It’s been a while since you last saw him, almost six months to be exact. six months since he walked out of your New York hotel room not turning back. Six months since you flew home from New York to find all of his stuff had been cleared from your shared London apartment. Six months since you peed on a stick that changed your whole entire life.

You didn’t try and contact him to tell him, although you were still very good friends with his sister and it would have been easy to reach out you knew in your heart that a baby right now would just hold him back, and with an album release just around the corner you didn’t want to stop everything good that had been happening for him.

The day Gemma found out she almost told him. She hadn’t seen you in months, but with your growing bump you thought it would be too risky to see her, but she persisted and persisted until you caved. So you put on you baggiest sweater and went to have lunch with her. She could tell you were off from the get go. You didn’t order any wine and you didn’t touch the cheese platter, she had finally figured out why you’d been avoiding her.. she thought that maybe you felt weird because she was his sister, she never could have imagined this.

~~~~~
Levi’s first clue should have been how cheap the listing on the house was. His next should have been how jumpy the realtor was as he showed Levi around the premises. The final one should have been the story he found online - he had to know why no one had bought it yet, it was in nice condition considering it was basically abandoned, and the fact that the front door lock was busted - about the woman that was murdered there nearly eleven years ago.
Oh. So the house was haunted.
Or that’s what people said anyway. But even if it was, so what? What was going to happen? Was it going to try and kill him or something? He’d had people trying to kill him all his life. It was a rite of passage when you grew up in the worst neighborhood in the country. He was just happy to be out; still couldn’t believe he had managed it with nothing more than a few scars and the occasional bout of insomnia.
Levi didn’t actually believe the claim until a few days after he moved in.
He had placed a small ceramic turtle - they were supposed to be good luck or something, but mainly Levi had it because it was kind of cute - on the mantle of the fireplace in the sitting room before bed, but by the next morning it was on the windowsill in the kitchen. He stared at the turtle for a good long while before putting it back on the mantle.
Later he noticed that was back on the windowsill.
Fine then. If that’s where the ghost wanted it, then so be it. He had to admit the turtle did look nice there.
After that it was like a game. He would sit something out and the ghost would rearrange it. Sometimes Levi would move it back and the ghost would leave it alone. Mostly the ghost put the object wherever it wanted and Levi would let it be.
Levi didn’t mind really. He actually quite agreed with most of the rearrangements, especially when the ghost moved one of the chairs from his living room to a spot by the back window - it got a lot of sun and he often found himself taking small naps in it in the afternoons.
The ghost managed to freak Levi out only once when he came home from work to find a steaming cup of tea waiting for him at the kitchen table. The potential for the ghost to set the house on fire by somehow lighting the gas stove aside, it was made exactly to his liking, which even the most talented of baristas could not do.
It was like living with a very considerate and observant roommate. Or a mom. Levi imagined this was what it would have been like if he had grown up with his mother.
The only things the ghost didn’t mess with was whatever he had outside - things like the broom he kept propped by the door or the potted plants he had on the railing. It seemed the ghost didn’t travel beyond the four walls of the house. Maybe it couldn’t. Maybe there was some unspoken ghost rule that you couldn’t leave the thing you haunted or else you would disappear.
Well, that just meant Levi had to do all the gardening himself.
He was doing just that one after when he heard a car pull into his driveway and he looked up, wondering who in the fuck that could be. A man with wild brown hair and bright green eyes climbed out of the car. That wasn’t someone he knew. Levi stood, the man spotting him immediately, eyes widening in surprise like he was a surprised to see Levi as Levi was to see him.
“Hi,” he said nervously.
“What do you want?” Levi asked.
“Oh, I,” he shifted his hands and that’s when Levi noticed the bouquet there. “I didn’t know anyone had bought the house. The bank’s had it up for sale for forever, didn’t think it would ever go.
“I didn’t want to get rid of it in the first place, but my sister said it was for the best. I know I shouldn’t keep coming back, I keep telling myself to stop, but I always–I’m Eren, by the way,” he said, stopping himself from rambling further.
“…Levi,” he said after a few moments.
“I don’t want to intrude or anything, but could you–” Eren held out the flowers towards Levi “–well, I guess I still am if I ask you to put these inside…”
He trailed off, head dipping. And then he sniffled.
Fuck he was crying.
Levi wasn’t sure what to do when people he actually knew started crying, let alone a complete stranger. But here was this random guy, with these random flowers, randomly crying in his yard.
What was even with the flowers? Who were they for?
And then it clicked.
There was a vase on the kitchen table that he wasn’t allowed to touch. He had tried putting in the cupboard but it always ended up back on the table. He had tried filling it once, too, but the flowers were moved to a different vase the next time he looked. Levi’s housemate insisted on keeping it empty. The only time it wasn’t empty was when he first moved in - there were some wilted flowers in it, gladiolas if he remembered correctly.
The same flower Eren had with him now.
“Do you,” Levi began, pausing when Eren jumped and hastily wiped at his face before looking up at Levi. “Do you want to come in?”
Eren sniffed and nodded and followed Levi inside. When they got to the kitchen Eren made a small ‘Oh’ of recognition when he saw the vase.
“You use it?” he asked as he lifted it and took it to the sink to fill it with water.
“Not really,” Levi answered, figuring ‘I’m not allowed to’ would sound a little weird. “Who are they for?”
“…My mom.”
“What was her name?” Levi asked, hoping he wasn’t pushing too much.
“Carla.”
There was a moment of silence as Eren put the flowers in the vase and sat them on the table.
“Thank you.” He paused. “And thank you for keeping the house nice, too.”
Levi shrugged, nodded. He lived here now, so of course he would, though he didn’t actually change much when he moved in aside from some furniture, and he’s sure that’s what Eren actually meant.
“Well, I should go. Thanks again.”
They exited the house, Levi staying on the porch as Eren went back to his car.
“Hey!” Levi shouted as he opened the door. “You can come back anytime, okay?”
Eren beamed at him, then got in and drove off.
Levi watched him go, lingering on the porch well after he was out of sight, wondering if that was the right thing to do. After a few minutes he sighed and went back inside.
He was greeted by a fresh, steaming cup of tea on the table next to the vase of flowers.
“Thanks…Carla,” he said, adding the name after a few moments. “But we have to talk about this ‘using the stove while I’m not in the house’ thing. It’s killing me.”
Broken - Part 2
Summary: Jensen and the reader had an amazing night…until the condom broke. Not happy with the way things went down, Jensen surprises the reader when he shows up at her house.
Pairing: Jensen x Reader
Word Count: 1,597
Part 1
“The shit I get myself into.” Jensen grumbles to himself, absentmindedly grabbing the brim of his hat and spinning it around.
Tired and annoyed, Jensen’s at a standstill in the ice cream isle at Whole Foods. His greenish hazel eyes have been darting back and forth, trying to decide which brand of ice cream would be best for breakfast.
Inwardly groaning, the actor snaps his eyes shut realizing just how ridiculous that sounds. A fact like that should maybe deter him from pursuing a girl like you. Something perceived as cute and quirky could easily be a red flag in disguise. With his luck, you probably entertain some sick habit like collecting human teeth in the back of your closet.
Jensen’s ridiculous train of thought is interrupted by a text from Gen, thankfully she’s an early riser. He breathes a sigh of relief once your address is in his hands. It’s quickly chased away when a shit ton of nerves overtake him.
Pushed
When Connor wakes up he dreads the day, and that isn’t fucking helping him in anyway. That refers to the ticking time bomb that society calls a “soulmate timer”, to him it’s just a huge pain in the ass that resides on his left bony wrist. Making matters even worse, it’s his day. Today is the day his timer ends and he gets a soulmate. All in all, he feels terrible for whoever it is and hopes that they get the right fucking idea and ditch Connor and his fucked up life.
He stared at the ceiling when his mother knocked on the door. “I’m already up!” He yelled glaring at the door then back at the ceiling. He knew he was going to fuck it up, just like he always did. God his soulmate was going to hate him. His soulmate was going to be absolutely horrified, his breaths felt like they were being punched out of him, stomach churning in a way that made him want to throw up. Shaking he got out of bed and opened a Ziploc bag hidden in his desk. Lighting the blunt as quickly as he could he smoked out the window. Fuck, it was going to be a rough day.
Taking a quick shower, just to cover up the smell, Connor got dressed in his normal clothes, no need to try and impress his soulmate. He looked in the mirror and touched up his hair to look even more messy than it already was, black skinny jeans, scuffed boots, thin black jacket and a grey shirt. Perfect. Walking downstairs he felt empty and agitated. Pouring milk in his bowl of cereal, Larry, his father was already eating. He glanced his oldest child, clearing his throat. “Morning, Connor.” He glared at his father, rolling his eyes. “Big day isn’t it, bringing home a lovely girl for us tonight.”
“Oh fuck off.” Connor snapped pouring the rest of the milk into his bowl of cereal. His mother, Cynthia knocked on Zoe’s door upstairs telling her to get up. He ate his disgustingly sugary cereal that no one else in the house dared to touch, in fear of Connor’s anger and cavities. “I’m skipping today, I’ll go tomorrow.”
“It’s your senior year, Connor. You are not missing the first day.” His mother sighed pouring herself a cup of coffee, while Zoe joined them at the table.
“I already said I’d go tomorrow."
“He doesn’t listen. Look at him, he’s probably high.” His father quipped from behind the newspaper.
“He’s definitely high.” His sister noted making her own cereal.
“Fuck you!” He hissed laying his head down on the table, it was too early for this shit.
“Fuck you.”
His mom’s voice raised. “I don’t want you going to school high, Connor.”
“Perfect, so then I won’t go. Thanks, Mom!” Dropping his spoon into the half filled bowl of cereal he pushed himself out of his seat angrily. The chair slammed into the table, and his family let him stomp up the stairs into his room. Connor looked at his clock. He had an hour. Pulling a white and blue book from his bookshelf he laid on the bed waiting for Zoe to yell at him and hurry up. He read the first sentence on the page seven times and the first paragraph as a whole eight times, he couldn’t focus with fear biting at his brain.
“Connor! Hurry up!”
He groaned passing by the wall mirror on his way down. Internally, he recoiled from his own reflection, hoping his soulmate would do the same at first glance. He swung his bag over his shoulder, pushing past Zoe in the hall.
“Asshole.” She mumbled, clutching her shoulder.
“Bitch.”
Bolting downstairs and out the door he ignored his parents and climbed into the car. From underneath his jacket sleeve his soulmate clock tingled.
“Are you going to be a fucking monster to your own soulmate, too?” Zoe spat starting the car not long after she’d said goodbye to their parents.
“Maybe you should shut the hell up.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t be such a dick!” She shouted pulling out of the driveway and into the street. “You smell like weed by the way.” Her anger had a root, Connor wasn’t the kindest sibling. He would threaten her, pound on her door screaming obscenities, push her, insult her, he was no angel.
Twenty minutes left.
Staring at his hands more time passed until Connor spoke up. “Stop the car, I’ll walk.”
“And let you have a chance to skip school without me knowing for sure? I think not.” Zoe sighed looking at him almost sympathetically. “I know this whole soulmate thing is freaking you out, but don’t skip.”
He rolled his eyes at her and bit his thumbnail, getting a black nail polish chip in his mouth.
Thankfully she parked near the entrance and unlocked the car. Opening the passenger door he stepped, closing it harshly.
“Look, Connor-”
“Just fuck off!” His head swung back in her direction, giving her a scowl through a few stray pieces of hair. Stalking his way into the building only a couple kids were there. After entering the same combination from last year he yanked open the locker.
Ten minutes.
The hall started to bustle, no one talking to him by the wall. And then there was a voice.
“Hey Connor, lovin’ the new hair length, very school shooter chic.” Fucking Jared Kleinman.
Connor glared at him unnervingly silent. Gripping the strap of his bag he clench his other fist, ready to sock him.
“It’s - it’s funny, it’s a joke.”
“Yeah I know it was funny. I’m laughing, can’t you tell?"
Jared took a step back.
"I’m sorry, am I not laughing hard enough for you?” Connor shouted earning a few uncomfortable looks from his peers, part of him wanted to crawl into a hole. The other part just wanted to punch the shit out of this asshole.
“What the hell!” Jared stumbled away. Behind him stood Evan Hansen, the quietest kid  at school. With his striped shirts and constantly flushed freckled cheeks he didn’t always blend in, especially now. Maybe he was going to say something Connor couldn’t tell. Evan stuttered.
“What are you looking at? You’re a fucking freak!” Pushing Evan to the floor he flinched. His wrist stung. His head hurt this couldn’t be happening. Thoughts flooded through his head bouncing back and forth creating a chaotic symphony of fear and panic. He felt like he was drowning. Shoving his sleeve down he stared at the clock. He looked behind him to see Zoe help Evan up. Sprinting out the building he left campus tearing himself apart.
He’d just hurt his soulmate.
Secrets, Songs and Bad Habits
In which the reader and Jughead develop a strange dynamic.
A/N: My second fic and it’s awful, I thought practice made perfect? Apparently not but it doesn’t matter because I’m posting it anyways.
Warnings: Language, kissing and smoking (don’t do it kids it’s bad for you)
You were the new girl in town, the new addition to the river vixens and with an ass that made the entire football team want you and sass that made jaws drop. Jughead was the dark, brooding loner kid with more baggage than an airport and sarcasm that got him a one-way ticket to a black eye. Your paths could never intertwine, it was the rule and yet somehow you had both found yourselves wondering around the derelict building-site that was now The Twilight Drive-in. You casually leant against the scaffolding, a cigarette between your fingers and thick smoke escaping from your plump parted lips, unaware that somebody else was lurking around too.
“That’ll kill you y’know,” a husky male voice came from behind you but you didn’t turn your head, simply rolled your eyes and continued to smoke leisurely.
“Wow, really? I had no idea, thanks random stranger now that you’ve told me that I’ll quit immediately,” you replied with sickly sweet sarcasm. The mysterious voice let out a low chuckle and the body to which it belonged stepped in front on you, illuminated by the lit end of the cigarette now between your lips. The boy stuck out his hand and introduced himself as “Jughead Pendleton Jones the Third” to which you scoffed but shook his hand nevertheless. You vaguely recognised him from the school hallways and from your English class.
“Do you have a name?” he asked.
“No,” you answered peering up at his tall frame but he just narrowed his eyes and glared back at you expectantly. “(Y/N), (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
“Well (Y/N), (Y/N) (Y/L/N) what are you doing here at two o’clock in the morning? Other than filling your lungs with tar that is.”
“I couldn’t sleep so I thought I’d come and explore this part of town,” you strode up to him and folded your arms across your chest in annoyance, tilting your head at an impossible angle so that you could glare back at him.
“I hope you’re aware that there is a killer on the loose, this is a rough part of town princess and that sarcasm can’t save you from a bullet,” he said in a hushed tone.
“I’m aware of that but I can take care of myself thanks!” you spat.
“I seriously doubt that.”
“Why?”
“You’re like three feet tall.”
You huffed and rolled your eyes again but couldn’t help your lips from curling into a small smirk. And then you realised the hypocrisy of the lean, beanie-clad boy before you.
“Hey, what are you doing here at two o’clock in the morning? For all I know you’re the killer in question,” you asked furrowing your brows and poking him in the chest with a perfectly manicured nail.
It was his turn to smirk and he told you that you were right, he could be the killer but he promised you that he wasn’t. you held out your pinkie and told him to pinkie promise that he wasn’t and he simply linked his pinkie with yours in response. You smiled widely.
“So Jughead Pendleton Jones the Third,” you mimicked his voice when you said his name and you could have sworn that he almost smiled, “what’s with the crown beanie and the whole angsty look?”
“I won’t be judged on my appearance by the girl in an oversized hoodie, no pants and…ugg boots.” He retorted with a breathy laugh.
“Hey these are my pyjamas, not my everyday attire. If you see me in school, I’ll be wearing heels and skirts and crop tops thank you very much!” you shrieked and flipped your hair. You continued to bicker and chat with him until you had reached the end of your smoke. You threw the butt on the ground and stepped on it before turning to leave. As you walked away from him you briefly turned your head to mutter a quick “see ya” only to see him jogging to catch up with you.
“Stalking me now Jones?”
“Like I said (Y/L/N) there’s a killer on the loose, I can’t let an unarmed dwarf wander the streets all by herself, now can I?”
You huffed but allowed him to walk beside you to your suburban home. Once you reached your driveway, you beckoned Jughead to follow you around to the side of your house. Confused, he followed you.
“Give me a leg-up?” you asked him, doe eyes silently pleading. He simply rolled his eyes but kneeled down and clasped his hands together nevertheless. You quietly squealed in delight and stepped onto his hands, hoisting yourself up onto the flat roof of your garage. From there you tiptoed over to your window and slid up your window. Just before clambering inside you turned back to your new friend.
“Thanks, see you around Jughead,” and with that you climbed through the opening and closed the window.
Jughead watched as you clambered into your bed and snuggled down. He began to walk away with a smile on his face paired with the strong feeling that you would not in fact see him around. You were from a different world, a world with a best friend named Cheryl Blossom and Reggie Mantle and the like hot on your heels.
The following day at school, as you were talking to Reggie, you noticed Jughead stood by the lockers talking to a ginger haired jock and two of your fellow Vixens; one with short dark hair and the other with a tight blonde ponytail. You caught his eye and shot him a wave to which he swallowed dryly and shook his head slightly. You furrowed your brows and turned back to Reggie, confused and annoyed that he seemed like he didn’t want to know you. That is why you were so surprised when that night, as you climbed out of your window and off of your roof, you were met with a nonchalantly awaiting Jughead.
“Oh, so you won’t acknowledge me at school but you think its okay to turn up at my house in the middle of the night?” you were royally miffed.
“Yeah…no princess, I will accompany you to and from the drive-in so that you don’t get murdered. If I didn’t I would be a total ass. But other than that we don’t know each other, people like you and people like me don’t fraternise in the real world.”
“So this, right now isn’t the real world Jughead?”
“Nope.”
“Okay then…did you just come here to argue with me or are you going to walk me.”
He didn’t answer, he just started to walk and you followed. Over the next few weeks this continues. Every night at two o’clock you would meet Jughead outside your house and you would walk. Sometimes to the drive-in and sometimes just around town, exploring. He would talk and you would smoke and then you would go home. You liked his company, his wit and his sarcasm and he loved your fiery nature and flirtatious gestures, he adored the way that you were always completely confident in yourself. Despite this, at school, he would ignore you and you would reluctantly do the same. Neither of you realised that you both stole secretive glances at each other.
It was five minutes until the vixens were due to perform with The Pussycats and Josie’s voice had completely gone. In its place was a scratchy whisper, courtesy of a throat infection. Cheryl was freaking out. Who was going to sing? How would we perform without a singer to sing our song? How will Valerie and the drummer do it without a lead singer? Then the redheaded girl snapped her head to face you, the memory of you drunkenly singing at one of her infamous soirees suddenly invading her thoughts.
“(Y/N) you have to go up there!”
“…and say what exactly Cher?”
“Not say, sing, you know the song, we’ve been practicing it for the routines.”
“I can’t what about Josie, what about the routine?”
“Can you not sing and dance?”
“…yeah  okay…but what about Josie….”you were cut off by the pussycat herself.
“Oh hunny you’d be doing me a favour, I don’t wanna be known as the leader of a group that lets people down now can I?”
“Okay fine, I’ll do it but if I flop then don’t blame me, I’m not a singer.”
Cheryl beamed and ushered you onto the stage at the edge of the football field, following closely behind. She scurried over to the mayor, whispering something in her ear and pointing over to Josie who was desperately slurping at a bottle of foul-smelling cough syrup. The mayor nodded, sighed and then plastered a smile on her face before stepping towards the microphone and addressing the swarms of people in the stands.
“Riverdale, a town of pep has never been a more accurate term for our wonderful town,” as she spoke the marching band paraded and Cheryl had joined the rest of the Vixens that had assembled, pom-poms at the ready. She turned around to give you an encouraging smile and then turned back to face the crowd with a pout. “I am proud introduce our very own River Vixens who will be performing with Valerie Brown, Melody Valentine and newcomer (Y/N) (Y/L/N) who will be filling in for my lovely daughter.”
After sharing some confused glances, the audience cheered and you plastered false confidence on your face before picking up the mic. The music began and you took in a deep breath preparing for your impending embarrassment.
I’ve been here all night
I’ve been here all day
And boy, got me walkin’ side to side
I’m talkin’ to ya
See you standing over there with your body
You pointed your finger to the audience and wiggled it seductively before circling your hips and dropping to the ground, springing back up.
Feeling like I wanna rock with your body
And we don’t gotta think ‘bout nothin’
I’m comin’ at ya
You spotted Jughead in the crowd, he gazing at you intently and you flushed under his stare, biting your lip and tearing away so that you could continue undistracted.
'Cause I know you got a bad reputation
Doesn’t matter, 'cause you give me temptation
And we don’t gotta think 'bout nothin’
These friends keep talkin’ way too much
Say I should give you up
Can’t hear them no, 'cause I
I’ve been here all night
I’ve been here all day
And boy, got me walkin’ side to side
I’ve been here all night
I’ve been here all day
And boy, got me walkin’ side to side
Been tryna hide it
Baby what’s it gonna hurt if they don’t know?
Makin’ everybody think that we solo
Just as long as you know you got me
And boy I got ya
'Cause tonight I’m making deals with the devil
And I know it’s gonna get me in trouble
Just as long as you know you got me
These friends keep talkin’ way too much
Say I should give you up
Can’t hear them no, 'cause
I’ve been here all night
I’ve been here all day
And boy, got me walkin’ side to side
I’ve been here all night
I’ve been here all day
And boy, got me walkin’ side to side
You finished breathless and attempted to courtesy in your skimpy cheer uniform before hopping down the steps beside the stage. You ran towards Cheryl and the Bulldogs that had now run onto the field. She hugged you and squealed her praise. You spotted Jughead over her shoulder but chose to ignore him, that is what he wanted after all. As you made your way through the boys you were wolf-whistled and sloppily hugged until you felt your feet leave the ground. You squealed in confusion and shock until your captor turned you around in his arms and you were met with the face of Reggie.
“You’re one hell of a performer Dollface,” he yelled spinning you around and holding you tightly as you shrieked and laughed. You leant down and pulled him into a tight hug and kissed his cheek.
“Thanks Reg, now it’s your turn, go get ‘em tiger!” he hugged you once more before planting your feet on the ground, squeezing your ass cheekily and jogging off to start the game as you were left giggling at his boyish antics.
It was then that you felt the all-too-familiar craving for a cigarette so you meandered your way behind the bleachers. You fumbled with your pocket, trying to prise out your packet and lighter and not concentrating on where you were going. You bumped into something tall and dark. You looked up to find that the thing was in fact a Jughead. A very pissed off looking Jughead.
“Shit sorry Juggie!” you squealed through a giggle, still in the midst of the rush from perfroming, He just huffed out an exasperated sigh and turned to walk off. “Jug?”
No response.
“Jughead?” he continued to storm away from you. “Jughead Jones the Third don’t fucking ignore me, where are you going?”
“Sorry I forgot I had to check in with the singing dwarf” he muttered bitterly, whirling around to face your direction. Your brows furrowed and (Y/E/C) orbs widened at him in shock and confusion, clearly waiting for an answer. “Reggie, (Y/N) are you serious, why are you even talking to him let alone allowing him to touch you?”
You were silent for a moment as your anger towards the boy bubbled inside you before spilling over and scalding everything in its path. You couldn’t believe that Jughead was trying to control you like this, he wouldn’t speak to you in school so why did he get to dictate how you behaved around your friends.
“Are you fucking kidding me Jones?” you shrieked, lunging towards him and shoving your tiny palms against his slender chest. “You don’t want to know me at school and yet now you think it’s cool for you to criticise my choice in friends?”
“Hmm gee princess I thought you were smarter than that.”
“What are you talking about asshole?”
“Well I think your friend Reggie has a little more than friendship on his mind.”
“Jealousy doesn’t look good on you Jones.” You retorted, scoffing. You stood on your tiptoes and peered up at him, faces mere inches apart. He leaned impossibly closer so that your noses brushed and you could feel his hot breath on your skin. With that you pulled out a cigarette and lit it, blowing the smoke into his face and striding away defiantly leaving him stood bewildered, guilty and alone.
It was two in the morning and you were lying on your bed clad in your underwear and a large hoodie when you an incessant knocking on your curtain-covered window could be heard. Curiously you strode over and yanked open the blinds to be met with the face of a sheepish beanie-wearing boy. You rolled your eyes and exasperatedly unlatched your window and pushed it up with a huff.
“Grovelling isn’t going to work Jug just piss off,”you hissed, crossing your arms over your chest.
“(Y/N)…please…” you huffed in annoyance but made no effort to dismiss him. “Can I please come in before I fall?”
“No.”
“Okay…can you come down then?”
“I don’t have any shoes.”
“I’ll carry you.”
“Fine.”
He smirked triumphantly but immediately returned sheepish when he saw you pouting in annoyance. He clambered down and waited with open arms on the grass beside your house as you lowered yourself into his grasp. He turned you around so that your legs wrapped around his waist and he could rest your back against the wall. You huffed at the position but made no effort to move as the grass was damp and muddy.
“I’m sorry,” Jughead whispered. “I was jealous and stupid and I’m sorry. I mean, you infuriate me and you’re so fucking sexy that it’s really distracting…. up there on that stage you were incredible…and even your bad habits drive me crazy… I can’t write anything because all i can think about is your lips on mine instead of the end of a cigarette. I can’t concentrate around you and It’s driving me insane because I need you but I can’t have you.”
You bit your lip at his babbled, whispered confession, realising exactly what he meant. He liked you. You saw his eyes flit from your lips and then back and you felt butterflies in the pit of your stomach. You leaned in and brushed your nose against his, looking up at him with doe eyes and batting your thick lashes. His chest heaved against  you with each laboured breath and you brought your arms around his neck, threading your fingers through the raven hair at the nape, eliciting goosebumps on his olive skin. You became aware of the feeling of his large hands that were holding your bare thighs, fuelling the heat that was spreading over your body.
“Juggie.” you leaned in so that your lips were almost touching and he could feel your whisper tickling his cupids bow.
“Y-yeah?”
“I’m here, nobody else and I want you, nobody else, I have since we first met. You’re such a sarcastic ass sometimes and you’re angsty and brooding but you have the biggest heart and I love that about you. You literally met me, a virtual stranger and took it upon yourself to see that I made it safely to and from my house every night. That’s completely mental. Nobody else would do that for me, Jug.”
“Wow Princess, you made me sound like a real catch, no wonder you’re totally in love with me.” he answered cockily, a lopsided smirk gracing his delicate features.
“Don’t flatter yourself Jones, need I remind you who it was that came here to grovel?” you replied, raising an eyebrow and mimicking his smirk then you bit your lip once more and beckoned him closer with your eyes and crashed your lips to his. He kissed back, tentatively at first until you ground your hips into his making it abundantly clear that you needed more. He gripped your thighs tighter and moaned into your mouth which allowed you to slip in your tongue. He pulled you flush against him, needing to hold you as close as possible before reluctantly pulling away.
“What about everyone else, what about school, Reggie?” he asked breathlessly, becoming serious once more so you kissed him again, tongue sliding between his lips slowly and sensually.
“They’re not here Juggie, it’s just you and me.”
Steve walked down the road quickly.  His eyes were burning, but he wasn’t sure how much of that was from the cold.  It was freezing, and he tucked his hands under his armpits before the fell off.  Winter in Indiana was always shitty, but in the evening it was even worse.
“Why the hell couldn’t you have grabbed your jacket, Harrington?” he muttered angrily at himself under his breath.
It Started With A Treehouse (G.D.)
I havent written any Grayson smut in forever soooooo here take this garbage lmao
@scuteedolans @dangly-feather-earring-dolan @pinksnapbackbullshit
              Ethan, Grayson, and I had been inseparable for our entire lives. We grew up as neighbors, the twins ran into my backyard and climbed into my tree house scaring the hell out of me when we were five years old and the rest is pretty much history. Our parents became friends, we went on vacations together, we were babysat together, and we got along great so we basically grew up in each other’s pockets. As we got older the twins grew like weeds and bulked up quite a bit. There was no denying that they were handsome young men, I just wasn’t attracted to either of them. Or so I thought.
                As time went on, I realized a little part of me always loved Grayson a little bit more than Ethan. I always gave in to him, whether it be where we went to eat or what game we played. All he had to do was look up at me through the thick fringe of his eyelashes with those big hazel puppy dog eyes and my resolve would crumble in an instant. His face would split into a beautiful grin, flashing his brilliant white teeth, and I’d melt. Of course, to his face I would scoff and pretend to be irritated but I was never really upset. I don’t think I ever could be.
               It was late on Saturday night, and my phone rang with a text message.
*Group Chat*
G: hey sluts, movie night?
E: first off, rude. second, no.
Me: why not E? hot date tonight?! Lmaooooo
G: so you DO have a hot date!
Me: don’t let things get too sexy tonight E!
E: you are both monsters.
Me: gray I’m in for a movie if you want. As long as its nothing that sucks.
G: do my choices ever suck?????
Me: um remember the 4th of july with the twizzlers and half a bottle of fireball???
G: I MEANT MY MOVIE CHOICES NOT MY LIFE CHOICES Y/N.
Me: mhmmmmmm
G: I came out to have a good time and im honestly feeling so attacked right now.
E: gray that was lame
Me: you are LITERALLY a living meme
G: yeah but you love me baby!
E: I don’t!
Me: yeah yeah whatever I’ll be over in 5
G: YAY!
               I put my phone in my pocket before I slipped my shoes on. I called out to my mother to let her know where I was going on my way out the door. I walked across the driveway and into the Dolan’s front yard. I didn’t bother knocking and I just walked inside. I knew everyone else was gone because the only car in the driveway was Grayson’s. That’s when reality hit. I was alone with him in this big house. Why the fuck was it so hard to breathe all of a sudden? I needed to relax and act normal. I could not let my minor crush come bubbling to the surface right this very second.
               “GRAYSON BAILEY DOLAN WHERE YOU AT?!” I shouted from the front hallway. “I’M IN HERE!” I heard him yell in response from the living room. I grinned and started running. When I hit the living room I dove over the arm of the couch and tackled Grayson onto the cushions. “Y/N what the hell girl?! Are you tryin to kill me?” He said while laughing. His laughter shook my body as I was still on top of him. “You know I like to make an entrance.” I said while climbing off of him. I flopped onto the couch next to him with my feet in his lap. “Go ahead G, fire it up!” He chuckled while pressing play on the remote.
               About an hour into the movie, I started to get tired and uncomfortable because of the way I was sitting. Grayson’s large hand wrapped around my ankle. Still staring at the screen, he said “Stop squirming.” My heartbeat quickened just a little and I let out a fake irritated sigh. He patted his thigh and said “Come on.” I smiled a little and rearranged myself so my head was resting in his lap. Grayson knew this was my favorite way to lay but he also knew I always fell asleep like this too. Sure enough he started stroking my hair and in a matter of minutes I was asleep.
               About an hour later I started to wake up but Grayson was still stroking my hair so I didn’t open my eyes. Call me selfish but it was soothing and I didn’t want him to stop. I cracked one eye open and his phone was close enough to my face that I could read his texts. Now I didn’t want to spy but teasing Gray was kinda my favorite thing and if there was something funny in his texts I could use against him, you can bet your ass I would. He was texting Ethan and the hand that wasn’t stroking my hair, was flying over his keyboard.  It took all of my strength not to shiver while reading his conversation.
G: e I need help
E: whats up bro?
G: im freaking out. Y/N’s head is in my lap
E: dude this isn’t new. she does that all the time
G: e you KNOW this is different. You know how I feel about her!
E: yeah and that’s why I went to Aarons! Man up!
G: I don’t know what to do! God damn it I want to touch her so bad
E: okay well don’t be weird about it. Just like touch her arm or something idk man!
G: ethan you have no idea what she does to me I cant fucking breathe rn
E: well im going to leave you to it FIGURE IT OUT BUD!
G: ETHAN NO
G: ETHAN I SWEAR TO GOD
G: FUCK
               He clicked the power button on his phone and threw it onto the other side of the couch, and his head dropped back, a sigh escaping his lips. Now that I knew he wanted me just as bad as I wanted him, I pulled the courage from inside of me and decided that I was going to make the move to go further. I pretended to still be asleep and I rolled over so my face was inches from his toned stomach. I could hear him gasp above me and I bit back a grin. I stretched out like a cat as his hand ran down my spine. I slowly dragged my hand over the growing bulge in Grayson’s jeans. A groan spilled from his lips and I could feel his body tense up. I slowly blinked my eyes open and grinned up at him. “Are you sure sweetheart? Because if we do this, you gotta be sure.” He asked quietly. I could see the hope shining in his eyes and a shy grin appeared on his face as I nodded.
               As soon as he had confirmation that I was okay with this, a fire ignited in his eyes and his hand traveled down between my thighs. He began rubbing small tight circles over my clit through my leggings. All reasonable thought flew out of my head at the feeling of his fingers on my most sensitive area. My hips bucked against his hand and moans spilled from my lips. “These need to come off.” Grayson said, pulling at my pants. I stood up and removed my leggings, feeling exposed. “C’mere baby.” He said, grabbing my hips and pulling me into his lap.
               Grayson tucked his head into my neck and nipped at the sensitive skin. My hips began to grind down onto his thick thigh and I couldn’t control my sighs as my clit rubbed against the denim of his jeans. At this point I was so turned on I couldn’t see straight. “Fuck baby. You like riding my thigh? Does that feel good?” Grayson growled, his hands guiding my hips back and forth on his leg. “Yes! Hngg-oh my god Grayson!” I whined out. One of his hands left my hip and snaked down to rub me through my panties. He pushed them to the side and sank 2 thick fingers into me. I gasped at the intrusion and he grinned me, knowing exactly what he was doing to me. I tipped my head down and sealed my lips with his. He pumped his fingers in and out of my dripping center and my mouth fell open. He slipped his tongue into my mouth and I could feel that heat coiling in my belly.
               Grayson withdrew his fingers from my pussy and brought them up to my mouth. I sucked his index finger into my mouth, wrapping my tongue around the thick digits. I looked into his eyes as I continued sucking and he let out a low hiss.
               “That’s it. Enough fucking around.” He growled as he flipped me onto my back. Grayson stood up and unbuckled his pants, yanking them down along with his boxers. He pushed my knees apart and settled between my thighs. “Please Grayson. I need you.” I whined, on the brink of tears. “Shh don’t cry baby. Daddy knows what you need.” He whispered, lining his length up with my entrance. He pushed into me slowly, giving me time to adjust to his size.
               Grayson pulled out almost all the way and slammed back in, an animalistic sound ripping out of my throat. He began thrusting into me at a near punishing pace and I couldn’t contain the sounds spilling from my lips. “Please Daddy! God you feel so good! I can’t hold on!” I screamed. “Yeah that’s right baby. Tell me how good you feel. Tell me how much you need my cock.” Grayson grunted into my ear, his warm breathe fanning over my heated skin. “Ugh-Gray you feel so good inside me. Your cock is the best I’ve ever had! I’m gonna come!” I whimpered in response.
               His hand gently tightened around my throat, beginning to cut off my air supply. He kept thrusting quickly, his face twisting and contorting as he chased his release. His hand kept tightening around my throat and the air was getting thinner and thinner. The lack of oxygen made my blood feel like it was boiling and my clit was throbbing. Just as my vision started to darken Grayson removed his hand and used it to rub my clit in tight circles as I sucked in a huge breath. The sudden intake of oxygen mixed with his touches threw me right over the edge as I exploded around him. “FUCK!” Grayson shouted into the empty room as my pussy continued to flutter around him. After another half dozen powerful thrusts he stilled inside me as his orgasm washed over him. After he spilled his seed inside me, he collapsed on top of me, his head on my chest.
               “Wow. Y/N do you know how I’ve wanted this? How long I’ve wanted you?” He whispered into my damp skin. I ran my fingers through his messy hair and whispered back “I’m guessing, as long as I’ve wanted you?” He was quiet before responding. “Y/N please don’t tell me this was a one time thing? I want you to be mine. Like, forever ya know?” Grayson said, lifting his head to look me in the eyes. I cradled his face in my hand. “I’ve been yours since you and your idiot brother stormed my treehouse when we were five years old Grayson Bailey Dolan. I’m not going anywhere.”
Jonathan Byers had grown very accustomed to people whispering about him, often pointing and giggling amongst themselves as they did so. Because of this, it didn’t bother him when a few of his peers began gossiping about him – until he heard his mother’s and brother’s names come up.
“I still don’t think that Will Byers ever really went missing. That freak show of a family probably just wanted to land some paid interviews or something.”
I think the mom is a bit of a schizo. She probably just had a psychotic break and made the whole thing up.”
Jonathan could hear the teacher yelling after him as he left the room. He knew that if he had to sit there and listen to those idiots for another second, he’d have ended up getting suspended. The teachers would undoubtedly be looking for him, so he went to the one place he knew they’d never check.
“Rise and shine, Mrs. Barnes!” a sweet voice rang from the kitchen. The smell of scrambled eggs and bacon turned your stomach, as you laid in bed with your eyes closed. “Breakfast is almost ready!”
Today was the day you would tell him. You couldn’t hide it anymore, especially if your favorite breakfast foods made you queasy. You weren’t trying to keep it from him, you just wanted the timing to be perfect.
The silence was unbearable. Neither of you could look at each other. The driver pulled up the window in the partition separating the front and back seats, somehow making the moment more haunting.
Your hand didn’t move and his was as still as a statue’s. His whole body was frozen. Finally you mustered up the courage to face him, and his expression was dark. His eyes narrowed in thought and his other hand clenched into a fist.
For the first time in a while, you were small again, not knowing what to do or say . He was just as intimidating as the first time you met in the office. Everything about this moment was so wrong, so cold.
You were comfortable in jeans and a cute top but she was insisting on trying to find a dress or a skirt, which in your closet she’d never find. You’d relented enough when you let her put makeup on your face, telling you that you still looked like death warmed over and you needed it. “He would’ve told me if we were going someplace fancy.”
My twin sister Ruby and I set up our schedules to make it work. I’m a trained nurse, I can handle the more medical side of thing, and when I’m gone Ruby will step in and keep it together.
My mother never even entered the room he stayed in.
