Theory on the Future Fate of the Blue Lion

 First off, if you haven’t seen the new reboot of Voltron or listened to the SDCC Voltron panel, let me warn you that this post will contain some spoilers so stop reading right now and go watch Voltron.

Ready? Okay, here we go.

Now I know that ever since season one of Voltron has ended, the growing fandom of Voltron has been producing A LOT of theories of what season two will bring us. And the trailer for season two has only doubled the hype for the upcoming season and for the fan theories.

The two theories that seem to dominate the Voltron tag are definitely the theory that Keith is either a Galra/Human hybrid or Galra/Altrean hybrid (seriously this theory has pretty much taken control over all Voltron art and fanfiction in the last few weeks) and the second theory is that Shiro will either by killed off like his forgotten 80′s Norwegian brother Sven (rest in peace dear Holgersson) or be captured for long period of time allowing Keith or Allura to take over the Black Lion. (Though this theory begs the question that is Keith has to lead Voltron and pilot the Black Lion to do so does that mean Lance will take over the Red and Allura pilot the Blue? Will Keith have to give Lance his precious red jacket? Will Lance grow a 80′s mullet too? This theory brings up so many questions)

Both these theories are awesome and have pumped up a lot of great material from the fandom so far and will probably continue to do so until season two comes around later this year.

However, there’s been a theory mulling around in my head for a while now and so far, I haven’t really seen any other fan pick up on it. And since I have no one to discuss this with, I’m going to lay it all out right here for you Voltron fandom!

As the title of this post suggest, this theory revolves around the Blue Lion which automatically means a lot of it is going to deal with this guy:

 Why so scared? Not every Voltron theory is filled with angst and- oh fuck, nevermind.

Yes, while the most fandom are biting their nails over the fates of poor alien Keith and the possible death/capture/brainwashing of Tadashi- oh nevermind that’s Sven- I mean Shiro- I’m sitting in my isolated corner of outlandish theories mentally preparing myself over the possible horrendous fate that could possibly await our favorite Blue Paladin.

But “Why?” you, anonymous tumblr user, will ask.What solid clue can be found in season one that could possibly hint that anything bad could happen to Lance and the Blue Lion in the coming seasons?

Well, simple. It all begins with this lines right here:

                 Foreshadowing or too much Film Theorists? Probably the former                                 but who cares, I’m finishing this post.

Even when I first watched the series the first time around, this line always stuck out to me. I know it’s supposed to lead to a snappy argument with Keith to lighten the area on the serious mood of the scene, but it still felt a bit odd.

Then I began to wonder if it might foreshadow to something coming later in the series. Many of the writers of the new Voltron reboot have written stuff for The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra- both series that have been known to plan ahead and leave foreshadowing to future events in small ways so I wouldn’t put it past the team of Voltron to do the same.

So, the question is, will Lance’s mind because fused with a giant ship in the future? Perhaps with with one…..

     Yeah, stop smiling Blue, this theory doesn’t really end well for you.

Of course, since Blue technically already has her own sentiment mind, this couldn’t work unless something were to happen to the Blue Lion that would make her lose the Quintessence, the life form, that allows her to be more than a plain machine….

….Something along the lines of Zarkon destroying one of the lions as a last ditch effort to prevent Voltron from ever being used against him.

Because damn it if he can’t have his Voltron action figure than nobody should get the Voltron action figure.

But seriously, wouldn’t this be the best plan all together if everything else fails?Why waste all the time and resources trying to steal the lions when he can just destroy one of them and prevent the so-called ultimate weapon from being used against him in the first place? He was doing an okay job of conquering the universe without the Voltron for the last 10,000 years.

But why the Blue Lion you of little faith ask? If that’s his last ditch plan, then he could destroy any of them to make it work.

Well you’re right- there is no solid evidence to support the idea that it would be the Blue Lion could be destroyed or permanently damaged if these theory plays out.

But from a writer’s standpoint, if any of the Lions’ were to be killed or damaged, the one that would hit most with the audience probably be Blue.

Look at it this way- who was the lion that the main characters, and we as an audience first met?

                                             Love at first sight.

That’s right. It was Blue. And by all accords, she is the lion that we spend the most time with solo on screen. We get to see more of her personality and grow attached to her at the same time as the main characters to. She is the Lion we, as an audience, have the most emotional attachment to. If anything were to happen to the lions, it would hit the hardest if it happened to Blue.

And you can bet that the writers did that on purpose.

              How dare they make me feel emotions for this giant robot cat.

So Zarkon destroys Blue to make forming Voltron impossible. Maybe he absorbs her quintessence to make himself more powerful just as he did with that one planet. So her mechanical body may still be somewhat intact, but her lifeform that makes her a living being is gone. She is a lifeless shell. But of course, Lance, her pilot, would share the same Quintessence as Blue. What if, as the ultimate sacrifice, Lance will give up his own Quintessence, his very life force, and fuse with the Blue Lion, thus in a way, becoming the Blue Lion himself?

                                        Oh look Blue! We’re a match!

But, you argue, could this be possible? Making an AI out of memories like with Alfor and the Castle Ship is one thing, but Lance literally becoming the next Blue Lion? Impossible! Nay! Nay!

Don’t worry, I’d be “naying” in disbelief with all of you if I hadn’t realized that we’ve been watching organic beings becoming sentient warships (aka the Robeasts) throughout the entire first season. Haggar and druids have doing this since the very beginning. For example:

This guy

became this asshole

And Haggar’s weird pet lizard

became a digimon I’m pretty sure

Based on this evidence, I’m pretty sure the Lions of Voltron probably all used to be actual organic beings at one point in time before becoming literal weapons to protect the universe.  Haggar and her druids probably rediscovered this same magic to create their own Voltron Lion wannabes.

But if this theory comes true and Lance does sacrifice himself to become the next Blue Lion, then the question is, who would be the next Blue Paladin?

The answer of course, for those who have watched the original series is….

                                Literally fuck anyone who just said Sven.

Yes Princess Allura. Who else? Blue is literally one of the key colors that represents her in the series. And I don’t think it is just a coincidence that out of all the paladins it was Lance that Allura first saw when she woke up from her 10,000 year long sleep.

I’m going to ride you one day…And not in the way you’re thinking about, pervert.

You would think that the writers would have had Allura fall into Keith’s arms (who was her love interest in the past series) or maybe Shiro’s (since there seems to be some hinting of romance between them), but no, she falls into Lance’s arms, thus already starting the connection between future pilot and lion.

So there you have it folks! I’ve just tossed in my theory for what might happen in the future of the series. Of course, this is all just plain, fun speculation! And whether you agree with it or not, I’d love to hear what you think about it!

Vow

The Things We Fear

This was a lot gayer than I thought it would be. I owe the outline of the first part to @thesickficsideblog, but I kinda ran away with it at the end. I swear, it wasn’t supposed to be Klance, but my hand slipped. I’ll put it on ao3 later.

“Y/L/N to enterprise!” You yelled into your communicator. “I don’t think the shuttle is going to make it!” You yell as you try to pilot the damn thing closer to the enterprise. The ship had stopped at a class m planet to assist in delivering medical supplies to a research team. Everything had gone well, till it was time to return to the enterprise. The team on the planet had their pick of some supplies, and you had the remaining on the shuttle with you. You were supposed to have another crew member go down with you, but you had done this very trip to this team a few times before and didn’t feel you needed assistance.

The Last Jedi Teaser Poster Anyalsis

Worth a Thousand Words

An Analysis of The Last Jedi Teaser Poster

Having just returned home from Star Wars Celebration: Orlando, I am filled with emotions, excitement and anticipation for the next installment of the Skywalker family saga. I was fortunately enough sit in the The Last Jedi panel, after 20 hours of sitting on a concrete floor, and an additional 10 hours before hand, queueing outside. However, that panel was worth every second of the wait time. And while most people will say the long anticipated teaser trailer stole the show, as an artist and illustrator, for me, the star of the show was the teaser poster, that was also revealed.

My jaw literally dropped as I stood in stunned silence as the crowd cheered around me. In fact, my line buddy, a member of the 501st by the name of Matt, repeatedly asked if I was okay as stood agape at the poster, amazed in it’s brilliant design as well as very clear and intentional use of visual story telling. I was flabbergasted at the bold choices made by Lucasfilm in this teaser poster, and I do believe that this is more of an indicator of the film’s story, rather than the trailer. This poster tells us, the viewer, everything we need to know about the direction of the upcoming movie, as well as helps dispel the rumors that The Last Jedi will be nothing more than a carbon clone of The Empire Strikes Back.

Before I go into detail I just want to say that it’s no secret that I ship reylo, however, for the purposes of this discussion, I am setting aside my implicit biases and talking about the facts stated in this poster, rather than fan speculation and conjecture.

First and foremost, what stood out to me is the simplicity in the poster’s design. We see only three characters, Rey, Luke and Kylo Ren. After doing extensive research, I found that this is the ONLY poster with just three characters. All previous Star Wars posters depict the main ensemble of cast members, as far back as 1979’s A New Hope. Never before has a Star Wars poster depicted only three members of the cast, and it is a clear statement that these three characters are the most important in relation to the story. There is also a not so subtle nod to Luke Skywalker in the original promotional theatrical poster for A New Hope. Both Rey and Luke are positioned in almost the same spacial area, in the same pose, with an ignited light saber raised up. For Luke, this symbolized his acceptance of his heroic journey, and the inherent power he possessed. For Rey, however, the meaning is vastly different. The sequel trilogy is very much about passing the torch from the old generation to the new, and unlike in The Force Awakens, Rey is present and accepting of that power, physically and metaphorically, in The Last Jedi, the second installment, rather than the first. Rey is our new hero, now heroine, embarking on her own heroine’s journey.

Now I know not many fans like Kylo Ren, and in fact they perceive him as a whiny emo cry baby, trying his best (and failing) to emulate Grandpa Vader, but his importance in the story cannot be overstated! He is the descendent of Darth Vader, and Leia Organa, and as much as most fans dislike him, that’s just simply a fact! The Star Wars trilogy movies are about the Skywalker family, and he is the new Skywalker of the trilogy. He is important to the cinematic universe as a whole, and characters from the The Force Awakens who easily had double the amount of screen time as him, such as Finn, were purposefully omitted from the poster in lieu of Kylo Ren. Regardless of how much fans like his character, he is going to play a very impactful role in the film to come. I know that he is not the most important character or the focal point of the poster, however, given the overly negative response he solicits from fans, I felt that it is important and necessary to make my position, and the poster’s narrative clear; even if you don’t like his character, Kylo Ren is a key player in the Skywalker family saga, and the cinematic universe as a whole.

When analyzing any piece of artwork, regardless of the the medium, the best jumping off point is the focal point. In The Last Jedi teaser poster, the viewer’s eye is immediately drawn to Rey, brought forth by the strong contrast of the blue halo of light emitting from her lightsaber. In terms of visual hierarchy and storytelling, she is the most important element to not only the poster, but in the movie it represents. Her position, in the lower center of the foreground suggests that she is the most grounded of the three characters, and thus the one that we, as the viewer, is meant to relate to the most. However, she is removed from both Luke and Kylo, positioned below them, which indicates that she was not a initially part of their conflict. And originally, she wasn’t. Rey was just a scavenger, abandoned by her parents on Jakku, struggling each day to survive. At that point, Rey didn’t know or care about the Force, Resistance or the First Order. Her primary goals and motivations were pure and simple, survival.

This coincides with the backstory indicated in not only The Force Awakens but also in Claudia Grey’s novel, Bloodline. There are no indication that either men knew who Rey was or her origins until she found BB-8 and became tangled in fight with the First Order. Luke and Kylo have a contentious and tumultuous past, filled with conflict and anger, as they stand on opposite sides of Rey’s light saber. This is a visual metaphor for the Force, and where Luke and Kylo represent the Light side, and Dark side respectively. Separating them is Rey, and the light of her saber. Although she is removed from their history, Rey has been flung into the foreground of the struggle between opposing sides of the Force. She is part of their present, and thus their future. In short, the resolution of Luke and Kylo’s conflict rests on Rey’s shoulders, both metaphorically and visually in the poster.

The struggle been Kylo Ren and Luke is an interesting and important to the story, but what is more important is what it represents! At its core, Star Wars is a fairy tail, and was intended to tell stories and teach children about the human condition and morality. Understanding every detail of Luke and Kylo’s past is less important as what their struggle represents. It is the timeless struggle of good vs. evil. If the timeline in Bloodline is to be trusted completely, and there are no extra twists and turns in the interum, Kylo Ren turned to the Dark side of the Force approximately six years prior, and has been unable to locate or confront Luke since his disappearance. What has changed in that time? Why will Kylo suddenly be able to locate his former master on Ahch-to? The answer is right in the poster, Rey!

This of course opens the doors to a whole new set of theories, such as a Force Bond, or Snoke obtains a copy of the map and so on. But there is practically no solid evidence to substantiate any of these claims, and at this point, they are pure conjecture.

I also find Rey’s placement in the middle quite interesting in the wider context of the history of the Force itself. One of the central themes Star Wars has always been finding balance. In the prequel trilogy we saw this through Anakin’s development from the heroic Jedi knight, to the Sith Lord, Darth Vader. And yes, Anakin is responsible for choosing his actions and must therefor accept the consequences of such actions, however, the biggest contributing factor to his descent into darkness was the Jedi Order and their absolute refusal to acquiesce to the basic human nature of love and attachment. In fact, one can argue that the Jedi Order is even more barbaric and cruel than the Sith. Companionship and attachment is one of the hallmarks of humanity, and by denying them, they are essentially denying being human. But the Jedi Order in both the prequel and and original trilogy was the personification of the Light side of the Force, while the Sith representing Darkness. Too much of either side’s influence causes the Force to spiral out of balance, and thus the galaxy is thrown into chaos again. This was demonstrated numerous times on both sides, such as Anakin’s betrayal, or the New Republic unknowingly creating the groundwork for the First Order.

In short, the brighter the light, the darker the shadow. Both light and dark must be present in order to achieve balance, and Rey’s placement, directly between the light and dark, makes her the fulcrum, or the point of equilibrium. In essence, it is Rey who is who is going to bring about that balance.

Another interesting observation I made was that all three characters, Luke, Rey and Kylo Ren are all colored in red. I cannot stress this enough, the psychology of color is important! Specific colors invoke particular and subconscious imagery and responses. Color theory and its use in marketing and illustration is a universal language. In fact, color tells just as much, if not more, of a story as the composition! There are two primary colors in the poster, red and blue. Red is the color of darkness, evil and passion. Blue on the other hand conveys serenity and tranquility. Why is Kylo’s lightsaber red? Not because he uses the Dark side of the Force, but because the color red has a strong visual impact and the human brain automatically associates red with darkness and power. It’s no coincidence that the color red is associated with the Sith, while blue is attributed to the Jedi! Everything you see on screen or in print was designed to create a specific response from the viewer and convey as much information as possible with no words.

Further more, in both The Force Awakens and the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, it’s made quite clear that our heroes and villain are all experiencing a crisis of faith in the Force. Rey had her entire existence turned up on its head looking for guidance and training. Luke, it is suggested, fell into despair and solitude after the death of his acolytes because his teachings and philosophies failed to save his own nephew. Kylo, who just recently murdered his own father in hopes of committing himself entirely to the darkness, felt more weak and confused than ever before (this is said nearly word for work in The Force Awakens novelization). Because the color red is frequently associated with the dark side of the Force, and I find it quite compelling that all three figures are bathed in red. To me, this suggests that the trio are all going to be struggling with their inner demons, which often implies the temptation of the dark side. In fact, the only beacon of light and hope comes from Rey’s light saber. Some have argued that the light comes from Rey herself, but when you compare her upper body to her lower body, you can observe that just like the figures above her, Rey’s form is red, and the blue reflected in her face is emanating from the lightsaber, rather than Rey herself. This coincides with Rian Johnson’s choice to make the Episode VIII title font red, and maintains visual continuity. The most logical conclusion one can extrapolate is in The Last Jedi is going to delve into much deeper and darker overtones and story lines than it’s predecessors.

The positioning of Luke and Kylo in relation to each other is another aspect to this poster that I find intriguing. Luke and Kylo’s heads are above Rey; in this poster they are literally watching over her, and her choice to accept the Skywalker lightsaber. However, they are on opposing sides of the saber, as described above, representing the light and the dark. As a viewer, this design illustrates a sense of tension and conflict in both Luke and Kylo, but also in how they view Rey, and her choices. This image is clearly setting up the overtone that Rey has to struggle between choosing accepting either Luke or Kylo. In other words, it’s another iteration of the never ending struggle between the light and the dark.

Looking back in The Force Awakens for a moment, we remember that Kylo Ren extended the offer to teach Rey, “You need a teacher. I can show you the ways of the Force!” We all know the choice Rey makes at the end of the movie, but what about Luke? Will Luke even want to teach Rey after his previous failings at reviving the old Jedi Order? The following does begin to tread into the territory of conjecture and theorizing, however I do believe there is solid evidence to back up what I am about to speculate, or else I would have omitted it form this analysis. At The Last Jedi panel, Daisy Ridley, under the watchful eye and ear of Kathleen Kennedy, did reveal some very interesting information. We, as the audience were MEANT to know this information prior to viewing the poster, or else the CEO of Lucasfilm would never have permitted that information be divulged (like the Rogue One mishap at Celebration Europe 2016). Summarized, Daisy stated that Rey indeed does meet her hero, Luke Skywalker, and like in real life, how we  (Rey) envision our heroes does not always coincide with the reality of our heroes. This very clearly sets up the idea that Rey and Luke are going to have a less than harmonious relationship in The Last Jedi. This is also backed up by some previous leaks and spoilers from MakingStarWars.net, however until we know the veracity of those rumors, I do not treat them as fact, like I do the things said directly from the people at Lucasfilm. The statements from Daisy Ridley at the panel, however, were purposeful in sparking ideas and igniting the flame of this idea that Luke and Rey will not have a peaceful mentor/mentee relationship in the same light as Yoda and Luke’s relationship.

Mentorship has always been another key themes throughout the Star Wars saga, from Anakin’s tutelage under Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn, to Luke studying with Yoda. There is every indication that those reoccurring themes will continue, but in a different fashion. It’s been made pretty clear that Rey is going to struggle with Luke’s training, and we already know of Kylo Ren’s unrelenting conflict within himself, stemming from the teachings of Supreme Leader Snoke. Snoke ordered Kylo to kill his own father, an act that he did follow through with, but the novelization has proven that that act made him more conflicted than ever before. Where it should have brought him strength, instead he found weakness and doubt.

And all of this ties back to Kylo Ren’s original offer to Rey to teach her. It is my belief, based on the evidence above, that Rey is going to struggle between the teachings of Kylo Ren and Luke. You may ask “how will Rey learn from Kylo? They aren’t on the same planet?” Well even that is partially answered in Episode VII, and confirmed in tweets made by Pablo Hidalgo. Pablo definitively said that Rey learned so much so quickly at Starkiller Base because she extracted the information from Kylo Ren’s mind during the infamous interrogation scene. So in a way, Kylo has already become her first mentor.

Both the Light and the Dark are justified in their beliefs and teachings. Adam Driver previously stated in an interview that Kylo Ren vehemently believes he is and was justified in his actions, and it’s quite clear that Luke fully intended to disappear into the galaxy as a frizzled old hermit. What will happen if Luke does not agree to initially train Rey? She has all of these newly awakens powers, and no way to control them. Just like Kylo stated, she really does need a teacher. But which teacher? The Light or the Dark? Or, at what this poster suggests, something in the middle!

By placing both of Rey’s mentors above her, two Force users who are much more skilled and honed than she is, it indicates that both mentors are going to be fighting within Rey’s psyche. Luke will be teaching her one method, while Kylo and his Dark side influence will be pulling Rey in the opposite direction. This is wiring and character growth done right! The setting and characters have been established in the first film of the sequel trilogy, while the second installment places challenges and obstacles in their path. Without those challenges, characters will not grow or develop. Even more evidence for this is Rian Johnson’s prior statements that the characters in The Last Jedi are going to be tested and pushed beyond their limits. What would challenge Rey more than knowing she is can identify and relate to the person she hates the most, Kylo Ren? That would force the characters into a position where they have no choice but to adapt and evolve into something that spans beyond the juxtaposition of the Light and Dark side of the Force.

In other words, Grey Jedi!

Most likely it won’t be in so many words, but the concept behind it will remain the same. A world of Force users that are not bound by the narrow dogmatic codes of the Jedi or Sith! And while I do find both of their ideologies absolutely fascinating an an integral part of the Star Wars canonical universe, by constricting Force sensitives to Jedi/Sith, Good/Evil, Light/Dark is extremely limiting and grossly inhibits the idea of character depth, subtlety, progression and nuance. Maz Kanata and Ahsoka Tano are prime examples of Force sensitive individuals in the Star Wars universe who are canon and are Force sensitive, but do not fall into the dichotomy of Jedi and Sith. There has never been a main hero character in the films (which are the primary story telling means in the entire franchise that reaches the most viewers and has the biggest impact on mainstream pop culture). Luke Skywalker was seen as universal good, the epitome of the Joseph Campbell’s hero, who embarks on heroic journey on behalf of goodness and justice. The passing of the torch from Luke to Rey indicates a paradigm shift in the understanding of the Force for not only the characters but the viewers and fans as well.

The light saber in the poster is another piece of evidence for this! There is no partition between red (Darkness) and blue (Light). Instead there is a gradient emanating from both ends of the lightsaber, further emphasizing that this story will not be so simply as “kill the monster, save the world” but instead of dimensionality and gradation. There is middle ground to be found in the Force between the Light and the Dark, and Rey is the key to unlocking it. Or as Rey quite simply puts it in the trailer “balance.”

                                                        ********

On a personal side note, I do believe this teaser poster does further add fuel to the Reylo fire, and it makes be believe even more fervently that Reylo will eventually become canon in some iteration, but I wanted to keep my personal biases and theories out of this analysis. If anyone enjoyed reading this and would like to read my views on The Last Jedi teaser trailer and how it relates to Reylo, I’d be more than happy to comply. But I wanted and needed to get this poster off my chest first. My mind has been boiling over, wanted to put these thoughts down in some sort of organized fashion because as someone who is fluent in the language of illustrations as a medium for visual story telling, this poster blew my mind. I stood just flabbergasted at how blatantly the story implications were, but when I asked people about their thoughts they all came to different conclusions. And yes, that is the point of this poster, to get people talking and theorizing about what it all means, however visual story telling generally complies with a set of rules that are universally, albeit often subconsciously, understood by the viewer.

 Whew! I wrote this entire analysis in a single sitting. I apologize if there are any immediate grammatical errors, but I proof read this a number of times, so I am pretty sure that it’s correct.

WASTED POTENTIAL: X-Men: First Class and the Death of Armando Muñoz

Or, How Racism F%#@ed the X-Men Movies

It’s no surprise to anyone who knows me that I am absolutely, ridiculously invested in the X-Men Cinematic Universe.  Or, more specifically, I’m invested in what the XMCU could have been, if it had been approached as a cohesive whole rather than a series of vaguely confused attempts at continuity and Wolverine cameos.

For me, the biggest moment of missed potential comes with the death of Armando “Darwin” Muñoz at the midpoint of X-Men: First Class.  People have talked, of course, about how his death was racist and doesn’t make sense – because it was racist, and fundamentally, it doesn’t make sense.

To be fair, I don’t think the writers were being intentionally racist when they killed Armando off in the same scene where the movie’s only other black character defects to the side of the bad guys.  I don’t think they were being intentionally racist when they had a Nazi kill a black man, who, in the comics, is literally and demonstrably unkillable.

But they did these things, and these things were racist.

And to be honest, that racism kinda f%#@ed the franchise.  It’s not the only thing that did – the decision to put ten year timeskips in between each movie of the second trilogy certainly didn’t help matters – but I think that it’s the single bad decision that, if averted, would have changed everything.

Under the cut, I’ll discuss why Armando was such a significant character, and why his death shaped the direction of the franchise by destroying some pretty epic narrative possibilities.

(Trigger Warnings for: mentions of suicide, depression, trauma, real life racism, human experimentation.  Nothing more explicit than XMCU canon, however.)

Could you please write your essay on the zutara, kataang and maiko analysis? I would like to hear what you have to say...

Yes! Okay so I recently reblogged this post about Yin and Yang and how Zutara does not represent it, but Mai/ko and Kat/aang do. As I said in my tags, as a zutara shipper I do have a lot of thoughts on the interpretations of these three ships written in this post.

The interesting thing about this anti zutara analysis and the reason I reblogged it is that I almost completely agree with everything said about zutara.

In the original post, OP goes on describe the two most popular ways that people associate yin and yang with zutara and refute them:

I have seen two flavors of the yin and yang argument for Zutara. The first is the somewhat grounded point that Katara is a female waterbender and represents yin, while Zuko a male firebender and represents yang. The second is the completely clueless assertion that Zuko is “dark” and therefore yin and Katara “light.” therefore yang.

I could not agree more. So many anti zutara shippers (and even a lot of casual zutara shippers) like to picture zutara as the good girl/bad boy ship and I really hate that because the ship is so much more complex than that. Katara is not a goody two shoes pure angel, and Zuko is not an evil badboy who needs Katara to redeem him.

The first of these arguments, of female, water-associated, yin Katara and male, fire-associated, yang Zuko is true as it goes according to the traditional concepts of yin-yang, but it’s incomplete, outdated, and even dehumanizing in my opinion. It’s basically saying two people are right for each other based on what they are, characteristics that were inborn or cannot be changed, instead of who they are, their personality and individuality. Their actual personalities tell a very different story, as I will discuss below…

…Also frankly, the parts about masculine yang and feminine yin are the products of heavily sexist societies from two millennia ago. They reflect archaic gender roles where men are expected to be aggressive and assertive and women to be submissive and supportive….

…That’s why I don’t like the “female waterbender and male firebender are yin and yang = instant romance!” formulation. It’s sexist and heteronormative, and literalizes what were meant to be symbolic representations…

…If you’re actually interested in applying philosophical yin-yang to individuals and their relationships, it may help to think of yang as “drama” and yin as “chill.” Yang is starting things, getting in people’s faces, wearing your heart on your sleeve, raised voices. Yin is resolving things, calming down, contemplation, quiet conversation or just silent contentment. Everyone has some drama and some chill, but some people have more of one or the other. If one person in a relationship brings tons of drama, it strikes a good balance if the other can bring the chill.
In this understanding of yin and yang, it should be clear Zuko and Katara are both drama llamas, that is yang ascendant. “But female waterben-” shush. Katara is more than her gender and element. Also the gender and element are symbolic representations of yin anyway, not the actual thing.

Based on what OP has written (I recommend reading the original post, even though the quote above is very long, I cut a lot of good stuff out for length) I completely agree that Katara and Zuko are both Yang. Up to this point in the essay, I 100% agree with everything written about Zutara.

Here is where I start to disagree…

Zuko and Katara, then, don’t personify the yin-yang balance at all. They both have too much fire, too much drama, and that’s why their interactions can spin out of control and bring out the worst in both. Remember “The Southern Raiders?” Where Katara set out to murder a war criminal and Zuko egged her on? It was Aang’s calming words, his chill, his yin that ultimately moderated her rage and helped her remember her better self. Aang is the yin to Katara’s yang.

Countless essays and analysis’ have been written about how ‘The Southern Raiders’ does not, in fact, bring out the worst in both Zuko and Katara, and so I’m not going to directly respond to the above statement. I will respond to the statement about Aang and Katara, however.

If you take Katara and Aang’s individual personalities, traits, and mindsets, I absolutely agree that Kat/aang could be a wonderful representation of Yin and Yang. Aang’s role as Avatar is to be a mediator and to bring peace. Keeping in mind Katara’s fiery personality and emotional drive, I think that the two could have had a really amazing balance if written well. The issue, however, is that we don’t see this at all, which can all be boiled down to the fact that Aang doesn’t understand Katara. Let’s look at the scene between Aang and Katara in ‘The Southern Raiders’:

Aang: Umm… and what exactly do you think this would accomplish?
Katara: (sighs and shakes her head) I knew you wouldn’t understand. (She begins to walk away)
Aang: (Cut to a close up of Katara as Aang and Sokka look on behind her) Wait, stop, I do understand. You’re feeling unbelievable pain and rage. How do you think I felt about the sandbenders when they stole Appa? How do you think I felt about the Fire Nation when I found out what happened to my people?
Zuko: (off screen) She needs this, (everyone turn their eyes towards him) Aang. This is about getting closure and justice.
Aang: I don’t think so. I think it’s about getting revenge.
Katara: (off screen) Fine! (Cut to an angry and frustrated Katara) Maybe it is. Maybe that’s what I need. Maybe that’s what he deserves.
Aang: Katara, you sound like Jet.
Katara: (defensively) It’s not the same. Jet attacked the innocent. This man, he’s a monster.

These are not calming words. Rather than see Katara’s determination and anger and calm her, Aang riles her up even more. He doesn’t try to understand where she is coming from. He just assumes that he already knows. And then he delegitimizes her need for closure. Rather than try to empathize, Aang tells her she is wrong and refuses to see where she is coming from. He even goes so far as to accuse her of being a murderer.

The ultimate irony here, I think, is that when Appa was stolen, rather than show the sandbenders forgiveness, Aang entered the Avatar State and almost killed them. He would have, too, had Katara not been there to calm him down and be his yin.

The way Aang tries to be there for Katara mimics how Mai tries to be there for Zuko. Let’s look at this Mai/ko conversation in ‘Nighmares and Daydreams’:

Mai: Zuko, it’s just a dumb meeting. Who cares?
Zuko: I don’t.
Mai: Well good. You shouldn’t. Why would you even want to go? (Cut to shot of Zuko and Mai standing in the window, the Fire Nation Palace before them. Mai puts her arm around Zuko) Just think about how things went to the last war meeting you went to.
Zuko: (sighs)I know.

Zuko has been completely distraught about not being invited to the war meeting. This is a huge deal to him, he wants to be the perfect son to Ozai, and he feels like a disappointment and an oversight. Mai can’t understand why this is a big deal to Zuko, and rather than try to understand, she invalidates it and acts like it’s the stupidest thing in the world to be upset over. On top of that, she throws in his face one of the biggest shames of his life, all for the sake of making him feel bad for caring.

Let’s compare these two scenes to two scenes of Katara and Zuko supporting each other. First, Zuko supporting Katara in ‘The Southern Raiders’

Katara: But, we were too late. When we got there, the man was gone. (voice cracks slightly) And so was she.
Zuko: (Cut to a sorrowful Zuko) Your Mother was a brave woman.
Katara: (Cut to a front shot of Katara as she touches her necklace) I know.

Katara just opened up to Zuko about one of the most traumatic moments of her life: the murder of her mother. Zuko doesn’t make this about him; he doesn’t talk about the disappearance of his own motheR. He doesn’t try to defend the Fire Nation, his home or tell her not all Fire Nation people. He hears what happened to her, accepts how awful this was for her, and affirms that her mother was a wonderful woman.

Now for Katara supporting Zuko in ‘The Old Masters’:

Katara: Are you okay?
Zuko: No, (turning his head away from Katara) I’m not okay. My Uncle hates me, I know it. (Katara lowers herself to the ground) He loved me and supported me in every way he could and I still turned against him. How can I even face him? (Cut to a sideview of a regretful Zuko with Katara looking on.)
Katara: Zuko, you’re sorry for what you did, right?
Zuko: More sorry than I’ve been about anything in my entire life.
Katara: (raises her shoulders) Then he’ll forgive you. (Zuko looks at her) He will.

Zuko considers betraying Iroh his greatest regret. Iroh is the father figure Zuko never had growing up, and one of the most important people in his life. Right now Zuko is terrified out of his mind that the only adult figure who has ever loved him and supported him is now done with him forever. He is convinced Iroh will reject Zuko, and he doesn’t even want to face his uncle. Here enters Katara. She sees the regret and fear in Zuko. She knows there isn’t anything to worry about, that it’s ridiculous to think that Iroh wouldn’t forgive him. But Katara doesn’t say any of this. She doesn’t tell him to suck it up, or that he’s being dumb. She allows Zuko to reaffirm his sincerity and then reassures him that everything will be okay.

In these interactions, you can see that even though Zuko and Katara’s personalities are traditionally ‘yang’, when they come together like this, they find a perfect balance. They don’t egg each other on or bring out the worst in each other, they bring out the best, most vulnerable, and their truest selves.

This is what I love about zutara. It isn’t about ‘opposites attract’ or ‘good girl saves bad boy’. It’s about two people with very similar, but ultimately complementary, personalities coming together on equal playing grounds and supporting each other in the most positive way they can because the level of understanding between the two goes beyond words. It’s just natural for them to know exactly what the other needs.

“Surviving is enough"

So a little artsy film came out this weekend, maybe you heard if it? DUNKIRK. Directed AND written AND produced by (In) Christopher Nolan (We Trvst). Now, while I may not have been as excited for the film as many others, that does not mean I turned in my Nolan fanboy card. To clarify, I didn’t have much hype for this film, and went in sort of just expecting a war film by Nolan. But I absolutely got excited to see it in IMAX! Sure Intersteller was a little disappointing and a bit sappy, but Nolan is essentially the next Kubrick. The man is a visionary, a myth, and a legend, and much like my other fanboy stamps of Tarantino, Scorsese, Fincher, and new addition Villeneuve, they have yet to dramatically fail. The film has a few big names, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and Michael Caine, but it supposedly had new boys, Fion Whitehead and Harry Styles as the poster boys. Dunkirk weaves a classic Nolan non-linear tale of survival and deliverance in the face of nearly unavoidable fear and death. The true story of 400,000 battle worn, starving, and young and old British men retreating from the impending Nazi Wehrmacht, from Dunkirk, France back to England. While they see their homeland, they lie in wait for evacuation via destroyer, medical transport, and most importantly, civilian boats, to cross the Channel. Separated into three small and localised stories, we follow Fion, Styles, and company on the beach trying to escape by any means, Tom Hardy’s Farrier and his Spitfire squadron, and Mark Rylance’s, Mr Dawson and company sailing across the channel as civilian rescue boats. Each of the three stories are introduced as one week, one day, and one hour, and they occur in a as mentioned above, non-linear structure.

For starters, my three biggest pieces of advice going into the film, 1.) watch it like it was filmed and meant to be seen, IMAX (70MM preferred).  2.) It’s not a traditional war film. Don’t expect a British Saving Private Ryan or smaller Pearl Harbor tale (not the Bay film, just historical event). It’s a film of survival and finding some solace of victory in defeat. And 3.) the film is loud when it needs to be, and quiet at every other moment. If you go to a proper theater to experience this, your seat will literally tremble to the bombs being dropped and to the Spitfire speeding by. But as for dialogue im the smaller moments, there is little of it. If you’ve seen Refn’s Drive with Ryan Gosling, I would say it’s to that level of dialogue almost.

As I mentioned prior, the story is one of survival, hundreds of thousands of men and boys desperately trying to get back home after being defeated. From the sea, German U-boat torpedo and explode ships, from the air, the Luftwaffe send dive bombers and traditional bombers to pick off fish in a barrel, and on land, the French and some British hold off the Germans from breaching the beach. There is action in the film, but not in the traditional sense of a war film. This story seems to be more personal and somber, and executes it greatness in the silence, subtlety, and humanity of the historic event. You can tell that Nolan held this close to him, and I even feel that not having his brother for wiring this time, it gave off a much more personal and auteur vibe. I argue that this film will be one of the classics down the line. Say what you will if you didn’t like it, but in a few decades this will be the new generation’s Paths of Glory, The Longest Day, Thin Red Line, etc. It will be a WWII Film that grandchildren will hear about when discussing war film. While I did not find any of the performances to be groundbreaking or highly memorable, I do believe that the sympathetic plight of those stranded men and just the emotion in facia expression throughout the film starkly captured the sentiment of the moment. In a way, it is sort of an epic, and Nolan recreated various events within Operation Dynamo, as well as in his standard practice, making everything seamless and utilizing real Spitfire, real battleships, etc. I will say though, that the starting shots of the City in the background, seemed a bit too modern for 1940s. It’s exotic colors and prestige condition paralleled to the dark tones of the sea, ships, and soldiers took me out of the moment briefly.

To me, the best storyline of the three, was Tom  Hardy and the dogfights he has. Just to imagine the pure ecstasy that was an IMAX camera attached to a real Spitfire, zooming through the air, then shown on a 70mm screen! Praise Nolan. And it wasn’t even the action bits of the dogfights in air that had me excited, it was the pure cinematic scope and visual perfection that Nolan and cinematography Hoyte von Hoytama captured. Beauty in the raw. As I mentioned with the facial expressions, even in scenes of action, it was not necessarily the gun shoots and the bombs that were memorable, more so as the personal vignettes of each tale. These are real people, and each one of them experienced something different. The scope of Dunkirk is just marvelous and following each non-traditional story arch really aided in getting a sense of the chaos, confusion, and struggle to just survive. It is to the severity of turning on your own, as Instinct takes over. And talking and overhearing others after the screening, it did seem that the non-linear structure was not very self-aware. It isn’t obvious until about halfway through the film. To some, that may come off as a bit confusing, but unlike most, Nolan trusts in his ability to convey his story to us, his intelligent audience.

I mentioned that the film is very quiet in terms of dialogue. The script is certainly not one of the best aspects of the film, as it’s minimal and to the point, but also not the most memorable. As a benefit, that means that there is minimum exposition, predominantly given from either Rylance on his boat with his son, or through Branagh’s Admiral. The supposed main character, played by Fion Whitehead has less than 10 sentences, and it is a solid 10 to 15 minutes before we hear much. I personally, do not think that he was anything special, and would even say that Harry Styles did a better job of acting in subtlety. All those big names listed like Hardy and Cillian are more so smaller roles, and predominantly quiet or covered up in blankets or in pilot mask. Overall, the main character is Dunkirk and the overall mass of British, and Nolan just gives us little glimpses into small windows of different individuals. All in all, it is an ensemble supporting role cast.

Aside from the sweeping cinematography in IMAX blowing my mind, Hans Zimmer gave a superb score. Lately, his scores have seemed to be rather similar to others, but I really loved his score for Dunkirk, and it came off more original and at times felt as if blended with the world seamlessly. The crashing waves, the rising tides, the roaring spitfire, explosive bombs, and the creaking ships, everything was amplified by the score. And one of the most unique and fascinating elements of the film, Hans Zimmer’s continuous background ticking. The second the ticking starts, the tension and the intensity of everything becomes amplified to the point where mentally, I feel that there is some psychological urge being created. The moment the ticking slows to a stop, you are at slight ease, as much like a metronome, the absence of it is inescapable. I highly recommend IMAX, not only for the visuals but for the serene pleasure of the score.

I urge you to experience this in cinemas, and nothing less. If you can’t do IMAX, it’ll be a shame, but regular cinema is much better than waiting to see it at your house. Nolan films are always an experience and shear ecstasy to both the mind, ears, and eyes. While it may not be his best film, it is certainly one of the best films of the year so far. I would have to rewatch his other films again, but I feel that Dunkirk may file in behind, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and Inception.

END CREDITS SCENE: NO

Small PSA, before to cover my tracks for a small break. I will be traveling abroad this weekend, well actually tonight. I’ll be going to visit the wonders of Perú, and will be gone for about a month. Will I have reviews posted whilst there? Well, it all depends if they release new films, and if I have time. So there’s sadly a chance I’ll be missing out on Atomic Blonde, The Dark Tower (!), Detroit, and maybe a few more. So if the films are released there, I’ll do my la best to find them not dubbed, and if not, I’ll shift back into gear right before school starts. As always, Thank you.

your eyes were dropping. it was about four in the morning, and the tour bus was picking people up. you pressed play on some music and put to full volume. your friend next to you, tanushka, drifted off a few minutes before you. you felt yourself fade into sleep, letting your mind rest.

~~~
lin couldn’t believe it. he’d been in queens town for about six days and not a single person recognized him. no matter how peaceful it was, it was also disheartening. he didn’t let it get him down, he signed himself up for an 8 hour bus ride to Millford Sound. he walked onto the bus using the incredibly steep stairs, then heard a familiar beat. he couldn’t place it, but he saw the source of the noise- you. he walked towards your seat and that’s when tanushka noticed him.
she let out a loud gasp, grabbing your phone and opening it to the home screen, a picture of Lin on it. “you’re the guy! with the music play thing! LIT manny or something!” She exclaims in a shout-whisper. he laughs at lit-manny.
“I’m Lin-Manuel Miranda, if that’s what you mean.”
“yeah! That guy! Holy shit y/n FUCKING loves you!” she points at you.
“so you don’t mind if i… sit here?” he asks, wanting to surprise you.
“oh! oh! oh sure!” she gets up, letting him slide in. for the first he examines you. your hands were inside your star labs hoodie, and half of your face as well. he got to notice your hair and your eyes. from the corner of his eyes, in the seat pocket, he spotted glasses. you were cute enough in your own way. now that he was closer to you, he could hear all the music. it seemed your music range varied greatly. one second it was Hamilton, then it was Metallica, then it was twenty one pilots. it was quite amusing. then the bus driver spoke into the speakers, his voice startling you.
“o- what the SHIT? ugh tanushka you never wake me u-” you turned and Lin was smirking. you rubbed your eyes and blinked, fumbling for your glasses.
“what the heckle?” you muttered, letting your eyes clear to reveal Lin, laughing.
“well hello there I’m Lin-”
“Manuel Miranda” you finished, in awe, “no freaking way.”
“well yes freaking way. I kinda just, heard your music, and asked your friend, tanushka I believe?, if I could sit here.” at her cue, she popped up from behind you. “that’s me!”
“anyways, so hey! I guess you have some great music taste!” Lin chuckles. “so what’s you’re name?”
“uh- y/n” you stutter out. then with more confidence, “y/n l/n”.
“well, y/n, what a lovely name might I mention, may I ask you what you’re favorite Hamilton song?” he says, making you laugh.
“I have so many really- uh I guess I really like Washington on your side- ooh! or maybe the Reynolds Pamphlet! Definitely guns and ships! oh! also! RIGHT hand man? and the Schuyler sisters? they’re all so good and so brilliantly put together and the music and t-” his laugh interrupted you.
“I think I’d know how good it is, I spent way too much of my life writing them”
“modest MUCH?” you laugh, then realize how rude you came off. “I’m so sorry I didn’t meant to-”
“it’s fine! don’t be sorry!” he noticed your fidgeting. “nervous?”
“this is… a lot to take in” you breathed out.
“well take your time then.” he jokes, “the dad bod is my best attribute, I believe.” you laugh, and grab your phone.
“is it ok if I take a picture with you?” you ask awkwardly. he nods, and you open up camera. he spots your homescreen and points at it.
“that’s me!”
“well duh” you grin, holding up the camera so you could take a photo. you guys ended up taking maybe fifty because you both couldn’t keep a straight face.
“you don’t mind if I… sit here for the rest of the ride?” he asked, quite nervously. Lin has a crush. yes, it was a school girlish crush, but you had such a bright attractive personality… he couldn’t help it. was that even legal? liking a fan? it seemed like a distant thought, a foreign idea only sought after in fanfiction.
“oh my god of course!” you were practically screaming, a grin so wide that Lin couldn’t help but smile.
“so… let’s get to know each other I guess?” Lin said, then tried to think of a question. “oh! what’s your twitter handle?” he asks and you tell him. a pan formularles in his head on how to get your number.
“can you send me the photos?” Lin asks, reaching for your phone “here I’ll-”
“I’ll just dm it on Twitter!” you smile and type in his handle, sending him the photos. there goes that.
“you don’t mind sending me all the pictures? Maybe it would be faster over text?” he tried again.
“oh it’s fine, you don’t want a fan like me with your number.” you say, not getting the hint.
“I mean-”
“don’t worry about it! there, it should have delivere-”
“goddamit can I please have your number?” he finally blurts. your eyes widen as you look up at him.
“what?”
“I-uhm” Lin didn’t know how to fix this. he scratches the back of his head, looking towards his feet
“I’d love to give you my number.” You grin, and send it to him over Twitter.
“uh thanks” he grins sheepishly, then posted a photo. your phone rang with the notification for both Lins post & that he tagged you.
“you have me on post notifs?” he laughs, running a hand through his hair. god, he was cute.
“maybe…”
“that’s cute.” he says laughing at your blush.
met the most amazing dum dum ever… (your handle)
you blushed again and covered your laugh as you looked at him. “this is so sweet!” you exclaim, and it was his turn to blush as he nervously looked towards the floor.
“and you followed me? what? that’s so cool! oh my gosh!” you gush, smile plastered across your cheeks.
“it’s no problem, really.” he says.
“thank you! well god, I’m tired so you don’t mind if I take a quick nap?” you ask, and he laughs. in the back of his head, he prayed the cliche gods were at work and you would fall asleep onto his shoulders.
Plow Me
Because I’m self indulgent
In my defense, @secretschuylersister started it [And yes, it is based off of The Tag, her Legendary tag, id you could not tell by the title]
Pairing: Lin x reader (I think? I mean, it kind of turned out more Daveed x readerish. I was thinking that if people actually like this, I might do a second part and put more Lin in it… Unless y’all want it to be a Daveed fic? That works too.)
Warnings: probably OOCish characters (Taylor included? Not sure if she swears… Never mind yes she does) Sexual references, hardcore shipping, fangirl Daveed, some swearing (okay, lots of swearing) - that’s it, I think
Summary: The Hamilcast finds out about something that they maybe shouldn’t have
Note: Special thanks to @timeforhamilton who let me send this for her for advice and encouraged me to keep going, @secretschuylersister for answering my questions for “research” and @on-written-wings for her oh-so-helpful Industrial Revolution list! If you haven’t met any of them, check them out! They’re all hilarious, kind, wonderful, too great for this world awesome! :)
“You’re joking.”
“Do it.”
“No!”
“But why not?” Daveed pressed.
“Because it’s creepy!” Anthony defended. “Why would I look up Lin?”
“Trust me, the results are very amusing.”
“How exactly would you know that, Diggs?”
“I’ll give you three guesses… And ten dollars if you do it.”
Anthony sighed, folding under the promise of money for his troubles.
Daveed grinned, letting out a fist pump into the air.
“The things I do for you people…” Anthony breathed, even as he pulled his laptop closer to him, Google already getting up and running.
His fingers began to lazily drift over the keys, but after a few seconds, they stopped, a smirk curling on his face as his eyebrows lifted further.
“Oh, Diggs, you were right.”
“Why? What’d you find?” Daveed asked eagerly, moving so he could see the screen, eager for the scoop on something he might’ve missed.
Sitting there, all too innocently in the search bar, were the unfinished words Lin-Manue.
In the drop down list of frequent searches just below it, from the bottom up, it went lin-manuel miranda net worth, lin-manuel miranda drunk history, lin-manuel miranda moana, lin-manuel miranda, and, at the very top of the list, securing it’s spot as the most searched topic with his name on it, lin-manuel miranda plow me.
The two shared a mischievous look, devious grins slowly growing on their faces.
It took all of two seconds for them to silently agree, and immediately afterwards, Anthony had furiously clicked the first option, repeatedly doing so until the next page had loaded.
Scrolling down, he murmured, “So, Tumblr is the blue void from whence this came, eh? Let’s see if we can find out where this started…”
“Gentlemen Don’t Kiss and Tell” - [Keanu Reeves/Tom Hiddleston - One Shot].
Based on: Imagine: When your first husband, Keanu, gets in touch all of a sudden, you start emailing each other often, just being friendly. After the two of you got divorced, he never married again, you never even heard about him being in a serious relationship. On his birthday, you decide to show up at his place just so he won’t spend it alone. When you come home to your current husband, Tom, he’s waiting for you with your laptop and all the emails on the screen that he found while using it. Knowing that you’re talking to your ex, enrages him and makes him assume that every time you’re out, you’re with him having the time of your life, and Tom’s so upset he even calls himself a fool for loving you.
Written by: A.Wölf.
Notes: I’ve decided to address Keanu by his middle name, ‘Charles’, in this story. I don’t know, i was just more comfortable with it. Also there’s 1 POV change, and a few visuals.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It started with a package and a wrong address.

My old address actually.

Work was a mess. I would’ve lost my head if it wasn’t attached. Everyone rushed around, the phones wouldn’t stop ringing, and the stacks of paper on my desk were starting to resemble skyscrapers. So with a bit of sleep-deprivation and trying to function on one too many espressos on top of it all, I was more than likely to make a mistake.

It was a little after seven in the morning when, with yet another caffeinated drink in hand and taking sips of it, I went through my emails. But a sudden notification of something new in my inbox caught my attention.

I set my mug on the desk and stared at the computer when I read the sender’s address. I might’ve clicked on it a bit faster than I’d like to admit.

I covered my face with my right hand.

Dan can’t sleep. Normally, this only ever happens when he’s having another one of his infamous existential crisis’ or he’s had one too many biscuits before bed. Tonight, however, that is not the case.

Earlier while Dan was scrolling through the “danisnotonfire” tag on tumblr, he came across a lot of posts about phan. This isn’t unusual, of course. Hell, pretty much everyone and their grandmother ships it. Typically, he would just ignore all of these posts, but for some reason today he decided it would be a good idea to take look at all of these ridiculous discussions and edits.

It wasn’t a good idea.

At first, he thought it really was funny to see what people had to say about Dan and Phil’s supposed relationship. People analyzing their tweets, speculating when they’re getting married, and all of the theories about 2009 were quite amusing, to say the least.

The more Dan scrolled though, the more he second guessed himself. Almost all of the theories were far stretched and absolutely unbelieveable, but some of them left him thinking. The more “heart eyes howell” posts he saw, the more he started to notice that sometimes he wasn’t just making friendly eye contact. He won’t deny that he may or may not have maybe fancied Phil a bit back when he was 18, but that was a very long time ago and it was more of a fanboy obsession than a crush. Right?

And that brings us to now. Dan has been pacing the length of his room for what must be hours now. He tried to get to sleep, really he did, but it looks like that isn’t happening anytime soon. His brain just won’t shut up about Phil’s stupid gorgeous ocean eyes, man you could go swimming in them. No, he can’t think like that. Phil is Dan’s best friend, and you can’t just think about your platonic best friend like that. Even if that platonic best friend has perfect silky smooth raven hair and the most gorgeous smile in the entire univ-

Dan’s thoughts are interrupted by the soft creak of his bedroom door followed by the voice of a tired Phil. Dan has always loved Phil’s sleepy voice. Even when he only heard it through a shitty laptop microphone during late night Skype calls back in 2009, he could still pick up on the little bit of northern-ness that slips through. He finds it truly endearing.

“Hey,” Dan replies almost completely inaudibly, although now that Phil’s awake, there’s really no one else to wake up unless their neighbors have super hearing.

“Why’re you still awake?” Phil asks standing in the doorway to Dan’s bedroom. “It’s nearly 4am, you really shouldn’t be up this late,”

“Wouldn’t it be ‘up this early?’” Dan remarks with a sardonic tone.

Dan can’t really make out Phil too well in the dark, but he can tell that he rolls his eyes.

“That’s not the point,”

“I’m just thinking,” Dan half lies to Phil, hoping he takes it as another one of Dan’s existential crisis’ and just goes back to bed.

“Okay..” Phil says sounding extremely unconvinced. That’s one of the worst things about spending basically every second of his life with Phil, Dan thought. He can always tell when he’s lying.

Phil doesn’t turn around and go back to his room like Dan hoped he would. Instead, he strides out of the doorway and further into the room. When he gets about an arm’s length away from where Dan had stopped pacing, he holds out his hand.

First, Dan is just confused and ends up staring at Phil’s pale hand for a good 5 seconds before looking up to meet his expecting eyes. Then, Dan hesitantly grabs onto the extended hand not knowing where this situation is leading.

Suddenly, he’s being practically dragged out of his room and out into the hallway of their flat. Phil turns their bodies toward his room and Dan chooses to ignore the frenzy of butterflies that erupt in his stomach.

“You guys are just friends,” Dan thinks quietly to himself “I’m sure whatever reason I’m being pulling into Phil’s room is completely reasonable and platonic. Get your mind out of the gutter.”

Phil opens the door, brings them both into his room, and shuts it behind them, never breaking the hold that he has on Dan’s hand. Then, walks over to his bed and sits down on the edge of his mattress with a quiet squeak. After what seems like an eternity, he finally lets go and rolls over so that he’s laying on his side.

Now what is he supposed to do? His best friend just walked into his room in the middle of the night and brought him into his room, only to jump onto his bed and lay down like no one else is there. After about 30 seconds of awkward silence, Phil turns around to face Dan, reaching out his arms and making grabby hands.

Dan’s eyes widen and he starts to feel some heat rising to his cheeks, which he hopes Phil isn’t able to notice in the dim light of the room. He and Phil had shared a bed before, why is this time any different then all the other times they’ve done it? Maybe it’s because he still can’t get Phil’s sharp cheekbones and kissable lips off of his mind.

Dan has imagined what it’d be like to kiss Phil before. He imagines his kiss would be as kind and gentle as his personality. He’s even fantasized what it would taste like. Sweet strawberries and happiness. Of course, this was back before he had even started talking to Phil. When he was just a naive teenager watching through a cheap laptop screen. He would never think about Phil like that now. No way.

Dan tries to push these thoughts to the very back of his head as he begins to climb up next to Phil on the bed, careful not to lie too close.

Despite Dan’s effort to leave a large amount of space between the two of them, Phil scoots closer and looks straight into Dan’s mocha colored eyes. It takes all of Dan’s strength not to just lean in and kiss him right then and there. There’s still a decent distance between their bodies, but Dan can still feel the body heat radiating off of Phil.

They stare for less than a minute, but to Dan it feels like hours. Phil’s bright eyes clashing against Dan’s much darker ones. Dan wonders how someone’s eyes can contain so many different shades at once. Though his eyes were mostly a deep abyss of sky blue, Dan could see many swirls of green and even tiny specks of yellow scattered across Phil’s iris.

It’s intoxicating.

“Alright,” Phil says in a low voice, breaking Dan out of his trance. “Are you planning on telling me what’s actually keeping up and pacing around at 4 in the morning?”

Phil is never really one to pry, he usually just lets things like this go. Sometimes though, he just can’t help himself. Especially when he can tell that something is really bothering Dan.

“Uhm,” Dan replies, feeling his cheeks grow redder as he remembers what had been keeping him awake. He hopes his blush is still hidden within the darkness, despite how close him and Phil are lying to each other.

He contemplates whether he should just tell Phil what was happening. They told each other everything, after all. The worst Phil could do was tell Dan he was a freak, kick him out of the apartment forever, and say he never wanted to see his face ever again.

Yeah, no. He’s not telling Phil.

“I already told you,” Dan speaks up. “I was just thinking. You know how I get sometimes. It’s just another dumb existential crisis, it’ll be gone by tomorrow.”

“Dan,” Phil says in a stern voice, not buying his half-assed excuse.

Shit.

“Fine,” Dan quietly sighs. He shuts his eyes for a moment, trying to calm himself down

“This is so dumb,” He thinks. “Phil would never kick me out for something as ridiculous as this, I’m making a big deal out of nothing. Get it together, Dan.”

Once he opens up his eyes again, Phil arches an eyebrow, waiting for an explanation. Dan takes a deep breath.

“I was looking through the ‘danisnotonfire’ tag on Tumblr, and I saw -”

“Bear,” Phil interrupts him with a soft voice. “Is this is about some sort of hate post? We’ve already been over this, none of it is true. You have so many supporters, including me. Don’t let a couple of trolls silly comments get to you.”

“N-no that’s not what this is about.” Dan replies, blushing. Phil has always cared so much about reminding Dan not to let negativity get to him.

“Actually, erm, it’s about u-us.” He stutters out.

“Oh?”

“Yeah,” Dan says, suddenly regretting starting this conversation and wishing Phil would’ve stopped being such a caring asshole and just left him alone to pace until the sun rises.

“So, uhm, I was scrolling through the tag and I saw some posts about-“

“Am I actually going to say it?” He thinks. “I could just lie and say that it was just some stupid hate comments and this would all be over. No, I can’t lie to Phil. He’ll understand.”

“-phan”

“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck,” He thinks. “I fucking said it. No going back now.”

“Oh,” Phil replies, his eyes growing wider and his eyebrows raising.

They both know about phan. They both know about all of the edits and fanfiction, but they never acknowledge it, especially Dan. Not after 2012, at least. That’s why Phil finds it so odd of him to even say the ship name.

“I-I tried to ignore it, but it was just everywhere and I ended up giving in. There were so many theories, and fanfictions, and edits, and the more I looked at them,” Dan takes a deep breath before finishing. “the more I realized that they might be right?”

Dan waits for Phil to scream at him to get out of his bed and kick him out of the house, but instead he just stares blankly at him with an unreadable expression. They stay silent for a couple more seconds before Dan speaks up again.

“I completely u-understand if you want to kick me out and never speak to me again. I-I’ll go start packing my things right now.”

But right as Dan is about to climb out of the bed, Phil grabs onto his arm and says “Wait, Dan,”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t go,”

Now it was Dan’s turn to stare. What? Did Phil even hear what he just said to him??

“O-okay,” Dan replies softly, climbing back beside him.

Phil closes his eyes and is silent for so long the Dan is sure he’s fallen asleep, until finally he opens his mouth and whispers, “I’m not going to kick you out,”

“You’re not?”

Phil chuckles, “No, of course not,”

“But why?

“Because you’re my best friend?”

“B-but I just said- I did- you- I-”

“Would you shut up for two seconds?”

Dan shuts his mouth quick.

“I’m not kicking you out, I don’t hate you or whatever you’re thinking,”

“But wh-”

“Because I like you too,”

Dan’s brain short-circuits. What did he just say? Does he need to check his hearing?? No, it can’t be. But when he glanced over to see Phil’s flushed face staring at him, he knows that he hasn’t misheard.

“Oh,” He simply replies trying to play it cool, although he can feel the millions of roses bloom across his cheeks.

“Yeah,”

So now what? What does this mean for their friendship? Will they ever act the same way around each other again? Will-

“Hey, Dan?”

“Um, Yeah?”

“It’s kinda difficult to make out your face in the dark, especially without my contacts in. Could you, um, scooch a little closer?” Phil suggests, trying to hide a smirk.

Dan blushes even deeper, having an idea of where this was heading. He moves closer to Phil.

“Is this better?”

“Hmm, nope. Still can’t see you. Maybe just a bit more?” Phil asks innocently.

Dan obeys, scooting even closer to him. The temperature is overwhelmingly hot by now, with their shared body heat being trapped under the duvet, but Dan can’t really find it in himself to care.

“Better?” Dan asks. Phil shakes his head.

“Closer,”

Dan moves again.

“Now?”

“Closer,”

“Now?”

“Closer,”

By now, their bodies are flush together. A mess of long lanky limbs twisted together. Dan rests his forehead against Phil’s.

“Now?” He whispers. Phil feels his hot breath wash over his face. All he had to do was move his head just a bit forward…

“Closer,” Phil breathes out. His voice is perfectly rough and raspy, it sends a shiver down Dan’s spine.

And with that, Dan closes the small gap between their lips. At first, it’s slow and sweet, but after a couple seconds it grows sloppy and desperate, their feelings that they had bottled up for years spilling out all at once.

Phil doesn’t taste the same as he had imagined. There was no hint of strawberries, but instead he tastes like the hot chocolate that Dan had made for both of them earlier that night, which in his opinion is even better. He also tastes of mint toothpaste and a hint of something else that Dan can only describe as Phil.

Phil swipes his tongue along Dan’s bottom lip, asking for entrance, which Dan quickly grants, opening his mouth and letting him explore every nook and cranny.

Dan is louder than Phil imagined. He let’s out little whimpers whenever Phil applies pressure in the right places, and quiet moans when he licks around inside his mouth. And honestly, he’s not complaining.

Eventually, to their disappointment, they have to pull away to breathe. They don’t separate completely, keeping their foreheads resting together.

Dan slowly opens his eyes, to find that Phil’s were already wide. He’s engulfed in the deep ocean of color, before smiling so wide that it hurts his whole face. Phil joins him, smiling just as wide. Soon they’re both giggling like japanese school girls.

“Why the hell haven’t we done that sooner?” Dan says calming down from his laughing fit.

“I have no idea,” Phil replies still smiling.

They lean in again, grinning against each other’s mouths. It’s shorter than the last kiss, but full of love and fondness rather than desperation. When they pull apart, Phil move back to peck Dan’s lips one more time.

Phil wraps his arms around the small of Dan’s back and pulls him closer, tucking his head underneath of his chin. Dan accommodates by draping his arm across his waist and snuggling his face closer into his chest.

“I love you, bear,” Phil says, his voice soft and full of warmth.

“Love you too,” Dan replies, his voice just as warm. “Now shut up, it’s late and I’m trying to sleep,”

Phil laughs and squeezes Dan tighter, “Alright, goodnight Dan,”

He waits for a reply before he hears soft snores from under his head. He smiles and closes his eyes, slowly drifting off to sleep with Dan wrapped in his arms.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2. - EASTER EGGS, TRIVIA, AND THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

DISCLAIMER: I haven’t found any of these easter eggs on my own, I did a bit of research and gathered the many easter eggs I found from multiple sites. I know there are definitely more easter eggs that I didn’t include because I either didn’t spot/know about them or didn’t think they were important enough. If you noticed that I missed an easter egg that you would like me to include, please feel free to tell me and I’d gladly add it! I also apologize that this list isn’t as long as my other easter egg posts, it’s just been a hectic few days and I haven’t had much time to do more research. Also please let me know if i made any mistakes.

QUICK FACTS

  • Matthew McConaughey passed on the role of Ego to star in The Dark Tower.
  • The first poster for the movie is based on the cover art for The Ramones’s album Rocket to Russia.
  • The phrase “I am Groot” appears eight times in the end credits, before changing to an actual name and title of someone involved with the film. This symbolizes the eight main heroes of the film: Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Nebula, Mantis, and Yondu. As the very last credit rolls, David Hasselhoff says “We are ALL Groot.”
  • You could fit about 1,600 baby Groots on a normal movie screen and about 17,000 on a normal IMAX screen.
  • Groot says “I am Groot” 17 times throughout the entire film.
  • When shipping out promotional material, such as posters and banners, for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), it was given the code name “Level Up” to discourage theft.
  • The ironic thing about Gamora not enjoying dancing is actress Zoe Saldana actually has a deep background in dancing, with Ballet being her first passion.
  • The movie is Kurt Russell’s first superhero and Disney movie since Sky High.

HOWARD THE DUCK

Marvel’s Howard the Duck (voiced by Seth Green) makes his second appearance in the MCU in GOTG 2, partying it up with the Ravagers on Contraxia. We last saw him as part of The Collector’s collection in Guardians of the Galaxy 1.

COSMO THE SPACEDOG

We first see Cosmo the spaced as a dog wearing a spacesuit shown in the previous Guardians film as a part of the Collector’s collection, and we see a portrait of him during the end credits of Guardians 2.

CELEBRITY CAMEOS

  • David Hasselhoff (obvious if you’ve seen the movie) but he also sings on a song in the film’s soundtrack called “Guardians Inferno”.
  • Miley Cyrus is Mainframe, an artificial intelligence created by Tony Stark, and tasked with guarding and administrating an entire planet in the 31st Century. We see her along with the original Ravagers during one of the post credits scenes.
  • Sylvester Stallone as Starhawk, a member of the original Ravagers and Guardians (continue reading for more details).

THE RAVAGERS/ORIGINAL GUARDIANS

In one of the post-credits scenes we see Sylvester Stallone’s character Stakar assembling the original Ravagers. In the comics, Stakar is a Marvel anti-hero known as Starhawk and a member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the comics, who are from an alternate future in the 31st century. The other members are Martinex (Michael Rosenbaum), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Mainframe (voiced by Miley Cyrus), Krugarr (a CG character), and Aleta (Michelle Yeoh). Yondu was also a member of the original Guardians.

ETERNITY

When Peter Quill is being manipulated under Ego’s spell, he whispers that he can see “eternity”. Besides its literal meaning, Eternity is a character from the Marvel comics who shows up whenever the Infinity Stones are collected.

The concept of all time and reality within the universe is embodied by Eternity, one of a number of beings existing before and beyond all creation.

This shows the greatness and strength of Peter’s cosmic powers as he might have had a glimpse of reality (the figure of Eternity) rather tan just being under Ego’s spell. While some might think this is a throwaway word, in the first Guardians movie we see a temple mural depicting the characters Eternity, Infinity, Entropy, and Death surrounding the six Infinity Stones….

ADAM

During one of the Marvel’s post credits scenes, we see Ayesha with a golden cocoon containing an artificial being she created and with whom she plans to destroy the Guardians, and calls it “Adam”. In the comics, Adam Warlock is a genetically engineered perfect human being with an Infinity Gem in his forehead; Adam was the key to defeating Thanos in the Infinity Gauntlet comic and has strong ties to both the Guardians and the Avengers. But James Gunn confirmed that in the MCU, Adam will not be in Infinity War but he will be a big character in the future alongside the returning Ayesha, so we’ll definitely see them as a super villain duo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. There was also a golden cocoon in the Collector’s collection in the first Guardians movie, and while people suspected at the time that it contained Adam, it didn’t and the first official Adam teaser/easter egg is in this movie.

STAN LEE AND THE WATCHERS

One of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s post credits sense confirms a major MARVEL fan theory! One of the post credits scenes of the movie shows Stan Lee talking to a group of aliens (known as The Watchers) about all the things he has witnessed on Earth and his time as a FedEx man (his cameo in Captain America: Civil War). Therefore, this credits scene basically confirms that Stan Lee plays the same character in every Marvel movie he’s been in, and that he is sent or tasked by the Watchers to observe the events happening on Earth. Stan Lee is even credited in the movie as “Watchers Informant”. In the comics, The Watchers are an ever-present part of the comic universe spread across the galaxy, observing lifeforms and preserving their knowledge. It’s very possible that we will see them again in the MCU so keep an eye out!

PETER’S SHIRT

For a while in the film, we see Peter wear a shirt with some sort of Asian-language inspired script. The letters on the shirt match those used in the first film’s Kyln Prison, and a Reddit user quickly deciphered the space brand as “GEARS SHIFT.” The other words on the attached molecules on the shirt read “dust, cement, stone, and ash” with the bottom subtitle reading “A TenEyck Galaxy Invention” - Karen Teneyck is a graphic designer in the Art Department Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. (and Captain America: The First Avenger).

THOR 3 GLADIATOR PLANET

When Rocket, Groot, Yondu, and Kraglin decide to go to Ego’s planet, they mention that they had to several “jumps” through different pockets of the universe; during one of these jumps we see them interrupt a gladiator match, which is reminiscent of the scene of Thor having to fight The Hulk during the Thor: Ragnarok trailer.

THE GRANDMASTER

We see Jeff Goldblum’s character from Thor: Ragnarok, The Grandmaster, dancing along with the other character’s during the film’s end credits.

NEBULA IN INFINITY WAR

At the end of the movie, Nebula leaves the Guardians on a mission to kill Thanos. We already know for sure that in Infinity War we will see Thanos try to attack Earth (the Avengers), and Nebula’s role in the movie might be of utmost importance as it is most likely that she will be the one to call on the Guardians of the Galaxy to join the Avengers’ fight against Thanos. After all, she was the one who is responsible for Thanos’ undoing in the comics.

GROOT IN INFINITY WAR

Even though we got the adorable Baby Groot in the movie, one of the post credits scenes shows Groot as a teenager, which implies that he will be a full grown adult in Infinity War (just as he was in the first Guardians movie).

Fun fact: James Gunn has confirmed that Baby Groot has no memories of his past life as Groot (he doesn’t have any memories of Guardians 1) :(

JAMES GUNN’S PARENTS

During one of the flashbacks of Ego on Earth with Peter’s mom, we see a confused older couple.. James Gunn’s parents!

EGO THE LIVING PLANET

In the comics, Ego is a living planet. As Rocket, Baby Groot, and Yondu descend onto another side of Ego’s planet, we see that Ego’s face is actually on his planet, making it a living entity, just like in the comics.

TASERFACE’S ORIGINS

In the comics, Taserface is a warrior from the cybernetically enhanced race known as The Stark. The Stark are a race that found Iron Man technology that accidentally crashed on their homeworld and as a result, worship Tony Stark (a.k.a Iron Man) as their god.

YONDU’S LAST ARROW

As the Guardians mourn Yondu death, his cosmic ashes spread out in a stream of rainbow-colored particles in the air. As the fireworks and music occur, the particles condense into an intense pink/red hue in the shape of an arrow.

GROOT AND ROCKET DISCLAIMER

Just as with the first Guardians movie, at the end of the film’s credits, we see a disclaimer saying: “No raccoons or tree creatures were harmed during the making of this feature. The same cannot be said for handlers of said raccoons and tree creatures.”

                                             Part Twenty

Something was about to go down.

Something big.

Something soon.

Will could sense it, the way he’d always been able to tell the exact moment when he had to ditch a boosted ride before the plates were broadcasted to every police cruiser in the city, or noticed Loss Prevention discreetly following him around in a store and watching to see if he was going to try to slip something under his jacket and walk out without paying. He was good at it, always getting out just before the shit was about to hit the proverbial fan, no matter how much his teenage buddies used to protest when he pulled over in the stolen Merc or Mustang they were joyriding in and ordered them to all get out and scatter. Three of them got busted for Grand Theft Auto one night when Will was busy on a snatch-and-grab job for Hood, one was lucky, he was barely sixteen and got tried as a juvenile, but the other two…they got handed felony sentences and three years in the state pen.

His phone had been vibrating in his pocket during the whole ride from the Jolly Roger to Jones’s condo but he didn’t dare answer, not with the way Jones was staring out the tinted window, as still as a statue save for the drumming of his fingers on the empty leather seat next to him. He hadn’t said a word after his curt order of “drive” and he stayed completely silent while Will parked in the plum spot reserved in the underground garage for the penthouse, exiting the SUV before Will even had the keys out of the ignition and making a beeline towards the elevator. Will watched him in the rearview mirror, the brake lights casting a red glow over Jones’s face as he walked behind the car. His head turned and their eyes met for a brief moment, the red reflection going even brighter in his pupils and Will blinked at the weirdly distorted image. He had looked almost….inhuman, for a split-second, all red eyes and lips that curled in a sneer against a mouth as dark as a black hole. But then it was gone, and Will blinked again and rubbed his finger nervously over the key fob, feeling the raised lines and edges of the tiny logo press against his palm like an anchor to reality.

It must have just been a trick of the light.

mutantgurls  asked:

Ok. So you know how writers are always making lance sacrifice himself 4 his team. But what if the team get fed up with this a hit and decide to let lance know how they feel by sacrificing themselves4 hum.

OooOoOohhhh a twist! I do love them! Hopefully I did this justice.
_____________________

The team waits in front of the healing pods, waiting for Lance to pop out. Keith hasn’t been able to stop pacing they had to put him in. Hunk standing by, keeping an eye on his condition. Shiro and Pidge sit in front of the pod, keeping an eye on the other two.
All of them sitting in a tense silence, the only sound vein Keith’s footsteps.

It’s Keith who finally breaks the silence.
“He can’t keep doing this!”

Hunk looks away from the screen for the first time since they put Lance in.
“Keith, it’s not that simple…”

“This is the third time this week Hunk! He’s literally going to kill himself one of these times! Why does he always take a hit for one of us?! We’re capable of defending ourselves, we don’t need him to keep risking his life to protect us! I’m sick of seeing putting himself in danger!”

“Keith does a point Hunk,” Pidge interjects, “ Lance can’t keep doing this. One of these times, he might not come back. I don’t think any of us will be able to take it if Lance dies because of us.” She doesn’t look up from her screen, but the light is bright enough that Hunk can see her eyes are watery with unshed tears.

“Of course I don’t want Lance putting himself in danger for us. I’m his best friend, it would kill me if he died because he was protecting me. But he’s always been like this. He’ll do anything to protect us, even at the expense of his own life.”
Hunk tries to explain, remembering all the times he would take a punch for him back in middle school, or how he would divert attention to himself whenever Iverson was angry at them for failing a flight simulation.

“Well I can’t stand by and watch him do this anymore. He needs to realize how it feels for us whenever he does this. Maybe then he’ll figure out how much we hate it when he does this.”
Keith says a bit too seriously; but before Hunk or Shiro can say anything else, Lance’s pod opens, and the conversation is dropped as they all turn their attention to the groovy Paladin.

~~~~~~~~~~~
A week later, everyone is waiting in the pod room, only this time it’s not Keith pacing back and forth, it’s Lance. And from the state he’s in, he’s not leaving the room anytime soon.
It had been a pretty hectic battle, everyone struggling to take down the battalion of Galra ships and freeing the planet below them. No one could really keep their eyes on anyone else for more then a few seconds. Lance didn’t see the ion cannon aiming at him, too busy taking care of any stragglers that got too close the the planet. But Keith did. And before Lance knew what was going on, Keith rams Lance’s lion, taking the hit aimed for him.
Lance was already berating himself for letting his teammate, his family get hurt on his watch. They were able to get Keith to a pod in time, and once he was in, Lance started to pace rapidly in front of the pod. Coran had told him it would take a few vargas before Keith would be healed, but Lance didn’t care. He let his teammate get hurt. He didn’t protect him. How could he let it happen. The others left to get dinner, but Lance refused. No matter how much his stomach growled at him to eat something, he couldn’t leave Keith, not until he knew he was going to be okay. He failed his team. He didn’t keep them safe. How are you suppose to be a Paladin if you can’t protect your own teammates.
His thoughts only making him go farther and farther into a state of panic. When the others came back into the room after dinner, Lance was no longer pacing, but kneeling on the floor hyperventilating. Hunk and Shiro rush over to him and pulls him over to one of the walls. It took a long while, but with both of them helping, Lance was able to calm down enough to breath normally.
That’s when Keith’s pod opened with a quiet hiss, and Pidge helping him stay steady until he could sit down on the stairs. Lance bolts over to Keith, almost tackling him to the floor.
“WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT!” Lance cries out, grabbing Keith by his shoulders.
“Because you needed to know how we feel.” Keith answers, as if that will explain everything.
“What?!”
“Dude, you do this all the time! You needed to know how we feel everyone you do this!”
“And getting yourself killed is suppose to teach me WHAT exactly!?”
“That you can’t keep putting your life in danger for us!”
“But I have to!”
“Why!?”
“Because!”
“Lance! That’s not an answer! Why do you feel like our lives are more important than yours!?”
“Because that’s what I’ve always done! I protect my family! I don’t care if I get hurt or not, as long as I can keep you safe!”
Shiro finally butts into the argument, stopping both of the Paladins from yelling at each other,
“But Lance, we care. We care that you get hurt, and it hurts us to know that you get hurt. We care about you Lance. And every time you put your life in danger for us, we worry constantly about you.” Shiro sits down next to Lance, who has now let go of Keith, and he puts his hand onto Lance’s shoulder.
“We care so much for you Lance, and we can’t stand by while you risk your life for us. We don’t want to see you getting hurt because of us. Please understand, while Keith’s method was…..aggressive, he only wanted you to realize how we feel every time you do the same thing.”
Lance nods slowly, taking in the information as best as he can. Shiro smiles at him and pulls Keith and Lance into a hug, Hunk and Pidge joining in.
“You know, you guys could have just talked about it with me. You didn’t have to go and do something stupid like that.” Lance mumbles, giving a pointed look at Keith. “Yeah yeah, just know that if you try and sacrifice yourself for one of us again, I’m gonna beat the snot out of you.” Keith grumbles back, getting chuckles from the others. Hopefully, Lance will think twice before he goes and protects one of them again.
The first few days of Jared not seeing you at work, he accepted that. He didn’t expect you to to be around him much for a while after what had happened. When it started to hit a week of him not seeing you at work, or anywhere else, he started to wonder. “Jen?”
“Yeah?” Jensen turned from the screen he was re-watching the last scene they shot on.
“Have you seen Y/N?”
Jensen thought for a second. “No, haven’t heard from her since River’s birthday. Why? You haven’t either?”
Jared shook his head. “Not since…”
“Since Gen took you back?” Jared nodded. Jensen knew everything that happened. “I’m sure she’s around. Probably just keeping some distance for a bit. Give her time.”
“Yeah..” Jared nodded. “Yeah, maybe we just need time..” He scanned the area hoping to get a glimpse of you hurrying off somewhere at least.
With the Comma After ‘Dearest’
Or
Five times Jyn and Cassian have to use technology to communicate and one time they don’t.
Read on AO3
Thank you thank you to the amazing @rxbxlcaptain for being the best beta ever.  Love you!!
1.
The transmission signal is received at exactly 0900.  Of course he’s on time.  Jyn doubts the end of the galaxy would stop Cassian Andor from reporting in on time.  One of the droid opens the link and Cassian’s voice is projected through the War Room.
“Captain Cassian Andor, reporting.  Line secure.”
Jyn tries to ignore the way the tightness in her chest releases just a bit when she hears Cassian’s voice.
“Acknowledged,” General Draven answers.  “How goes it, Captain?”
Cassian has been gone three weeks, under cover with Kay in an Imperial mining facility on Kellux.  Communication has been spotty at best, but a report had been scheduled when Jyn returned from her latest mission.  They needed to talk.
“Well, sir.  My cover is secure and I believe the intel will prove valuable.”
Again Jyn does her best to ignore her relief.
Draven’s eyes slid to Jyn.  “Sergeant Erso has just returned from her mission to Nal Hutta.  She has a report we’d like you to hear.”
There was quiet for a moment, then Cassian’s voice returned.  Jyn reminded herself that she was imagining the slight change in his voice.  Cassian’s voice wouldn’t change for her.  Besides, after the fight they’d had before she left, she doubted he wanted to talk much to her, anyway.
“Sergeant Erso?”
He hadn’t wanted her to go on the mission.  After the relocation to Hoth he had been watching her, as if waiting for something.  It wasn’t until Jyn volunteered for her first solo assignment that she found out why.
“This is an important mission, one that needs to be completed,” he had yelled at her in the middle of one of the newly constructed Eco Base corridors after she had chased him out of the War Room demanding to know why he had argued against her.  The soldiers passing hardly looked up.  They were probably so used to Solo and the Princess screaming at each other in the hallways that it didn’t faze them anymore.  “Mothma promised you your freedom, so if you’re going to leave just go, don’t pretend like you’re taking a mission just to escape.  I know you’re going to leave.  But don’t kirff over the Rebellion while you’re doing it.”
All Jyn could do was stare in shock at Cassian’s retreating back.  She hadn’t seen him since.
“You’ve completed your mission, then?”
Jyn straightens her back, even though Cassian can’t see her.  “Yes, Captain.  While on Nal Hutta I learned that the Empire is sending an Imperial convoy to inspect the progress on Kellux.  I don’t know who will be on it, but it will be some important brass.  And possibly someone who knows of you as Willix.”
“Understood.”  Cassian’s voice is hard, determined.  Jyn realizes suddenly that she hates not being able to see him.  She can read him so much better when she can see his eyes.  “General Draven, what are my orders, sir?”
“We’re going to have to pull you, Captain.  The intel isn’t worth the loss of an alias.”
As Cassian and Draven discuss his imminent return to base Jyn closes her eyes.  Cassian was coming home.  They had parted on bad terms and Jyn doesn’t know how things will be when he gets back - and of course he’ll bring that infernal droid back with him - but Jyn can’t help the breath that escapes her.  He is coming back alive, and sooner than she had thought.  She wishes that thought didn’t make her quite as happy as it does.
“Sergeant Erso’s mission was a success?” Cassian asks, and Draven glances at her.
“Yes.  The intel is good.”
“Good,” Cassian’s voice seems oddly strained and Jyn wonders for a moment what he is getting at.
“And there were no,” he pauses for half a second, as if trying to find the right word, “complications?”
The tiniest smile touches Jyn’s lips.  At one point, not so long ago, she would have believed Cassian was asking if she had betrayed them.  But even without seeing his eyes she can hear the concern he is trying so hard to hide.
“It went off without a hitch,” she tells him, hoping her smile doesn’t color her voice too much.  “Hopefully my next assignment will be a bit more fun.”
She can see the way Draven’s lips purse but she doesn’t particularly care.  Cassian’s voice is notably less strained when he signs off and she has the feeling that when he gets back in a few days they will be alright after all.  She buries the voice deep inside her that wishes they could be something more than alright.
