OKAY OKAY BACK TF UP LISTEN LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I JUST GOT THE NORMAL FUCKING ENDING AND IM SO SHOOK CUZ WTF. I am here crying my eyes out because this dude, did not just break the 4th wall but he veosejoehdodbe HE CONFESSED HIS LOVE THROUGH MY SCREEN. I don’t want to spoil BUT IM SPOILING. Let’s give a round of applauses for Cheritz. Good job on making wonderful characters and….okay okay…I really can’t right now… I’m going to cry on the corner

People out here acting like Belle was this suppressed Disney princess who needed the live action remake to make her a strong independent princess. YeAH, NO. like, listen, I love a lot of the things they did to Belle’s character in the new movie. They really fleshed her and gave her more backstory that the original movie didn’t give her. YEAH. But okay, in the process of that they also somehow took away a little bit of the warmth and kindness and weakness that is in Belle, despite her independence and tough strength.

Belle in the live action didn’t laugh and dance along during Be Our Guest, she didn’t weep and mourn the loss of her father and freedom, she didn’t fear what her life was becoming. In the original, Belle takes her father’s place willingly. She doesn’t try to escape. She’s self sacrificing, compassionate and kindhearted, and there’s moments in the live action where that falls flat, if it’s even there as it is.

ANYWAYS.

It’s not about Emma Watson’s Belle or her acting. I like Emma Watson’s Belle. I can’t look at her and see Belle from the beloved original, but she is definitely Belle, and she makes Belle her own. Overall, I like her fresh take on the character, and I’m grateful for her portrayal. But because of the little things they took away from Belle’s character in the live action, she’s not completely Belle, in my own personal opinion.

Does that make any flipping sense? I doubt it.

I guess what the point of all this babble and incoherent opinions is this. Belle was already a strong female character for girls to look up to. That’s the point I’m trying to make. Everyone’s acting like SUDDENLY she’s worth something now, because she’s being portrayed as a bit tougher and stronger. Which, okay, great. But don’t take away the fact that when Beauty and the Beast came out in ’91, Belle was a very different princess than the others had been. She, and, well, Ariel too, really broke the mold of what the Disney princesses were, and literally paved the way for the princesses to gradually stand on their own more and more.

(I love Walt’s Original Three and am not saying they aren’t princesses who don’t stand on their own they are all so so important and strong and I will kick anyone who fights me on this. I’m talking about Belle right now though)

So, like, admire Emma Watson for the new things she’s brought to the table, the way she brought more depth to an already beloved, strong princess, while still appreciating Belle for who she already was, who she always has been.

also thank you so much this farmer au is actually my pride and joy like i’m dying

Okay, so my mom also watches Yuri on Ice and I just wanted to share something about her reaction to episode 9.

In general, she loves the anime - the skating, the animation, the characters, the humor, just everything. She says it’s her favorite and the best anime she’s ever seen (she watched like 20 other series upon my recommendation, including all the big sports anime). When I asked her for her thoughts on episode 7 she said she really liked it and she liked the way they handled Yuuri’s anxiety and his fight with Victor and all the other skaters. Then I asked her about the kiss (she didn’t initially notice that it was kiss and thought it was just a hug) and she said “Well, I think it was really nice how Victor ran to Yuuri and tackled him out of joy and everything but I’m not really into watching two guys kiss.” This saddened me a little, but I couldn’t really be mad at my mom and I ended up explaining why it’s a big event and in the end she understood and said that it was actually really cool of them to do that.

Now, when she watched episode 9 I didn’t have to pry to get her to speak. She called me on the phone (we live in different countries at the moment) when she finished the episode and just went “Okay, this was a really moving episode. I really loved Michele’s Free Skate and the part when Yurio went out and found Yuuri and gave him the Japanese-style pirozhki and tried to comfort him and and the last scene in the airport where Yuuri and Victor locked eyes the moment they saw each other and just desperately ran into each other’s arms, that was really sweet, and and then Yuuri asked him to be his coach until he retires and Victor said that he wants him to never retire and God, it was just so sweeeeet. They’re so sweet and beautiful.”

And I think that’s the proof that love wins. That a single scene can make my 58-year-old mom recognize a gay couple and call it “sweet and beautiful” and actually call me up just to fangirl and squeal (I shit you not when I say she squealed) about how she loved the scene and was moved by it.

Sometimes we don’t need explicit kiss scenes to prove that our ships are real and beautiful. Sometimes a really well-made scene of being reunited at the airport will be the thing that makes the real difference.

She deserved better. And I would’ve done anything to give it to her.

“Maybe that’s why it went for her. Think about it. That knocking, it went all the way round the bus ‘till it found her. And she was the most scared, out of all of us. Maybe that’s what it needed. That’s how it got in.”

it is wednesday my dudes

It’s Okay to Have a Love Interest

No, really. Having a love interest does not automatically deem a character dependent and a damsel. In my opinion, as long as the romance is not random, forced or rushed, having a love interest is fine. I believe that if we aren’t careful, a stigma could be formed that characters are not independent, strong women, just because they love a man. That is not true. We need to veer from both extremes, that women must rely on men and ALSO that women must be single to be considered independent and strong and that if they do love a man, that they are automatically of inferiority. You can love somebody and still have agency.

There is nothing wrong with not having a love interest, either, though. I think that it is great that we are exploring stories beyond romance. But I don’t care for this sentiment that is forming, as if the new princesses are superior to the others for not having a love interest. No, all the princesses have something unique and positive to bring to the table.

Also, about Cinderella and Ariel. Cinderella did not just dream about happily-ever-after with the prince. She did not even mention the prince before she went to the ball. She never expected him to save her, she only dreamed that an opportunity would arrive that could help her achieve a better life. That opportunity turned out to be with the prince. She wanted to go because she was hoping to leave her abusive home and have fun for once. It was her good fortune that the prince noticed her at the ball, that her beauty (inside and out) caught his attention. And after the ball, sure she was infatuated with him, but she was still realistic and assumed things would just go back to normal. It was the prince who made a big hoopla and searched the entire kingdom for her so that they could marry. Plus, we don’t even know how much time passed between the glass slipper fitting and the wedding. They could’ve spent more time getting to know each other. Just because the movie cuts from the former scene to the latter does not mean it all actually happened that fast.

As for Ariel, she did give up her voice and left home for Eric, which is not the wisest course of actions. But her longing for the human world did not just revolve around him. She wanted to be human and on land before she even saw him. Part Of Your World was sung before a romantic storyline even began. Ariel wanted to be human because she did not quite fit in underwater, she was not like her other sisters or father. Ariel was adventurous and wanted to explore a land unlike her own. I think a lot of us can relate to that. It was her attachment to a particular human that finally cemented her resolve. Also, she was willing to meet Eric as a mermaid, we see this is in a scene where she encourages Flounder to go with her to the castle and splash around to get his attention so that she could talk to him. It was not until Triton destroyed her collection that Ariel became distraught, and although she shooed away Flotsam and Jetsam, they knew she was upset and desperate for a chance to achieve her dreams after what just happened.

I just had to get that all off my chest. Sure, the princess love story has been done many a time and a single princess is a nice change. But can we please not demean characters who do have love interests? Can we not oversimplify their stories to “oh, this character daydreams about prince charming” and “this character gives up everything for true love”? Because there are more to Disney princesses than their love stories. They all have positive traits and actions to recognize besides that. There is nothing inferior about falling in love. Romance is not something to “steer clear of”.

In conclusion, I understand the importance of showing women stories that let us all know that we don’t always need a significant other. And that young women around the ages of the Disney princesses do not have to worry about falling in love and have other things they can focus their attention on. But let’s not antagonize the concept of having a love interest. Before we know it, young women and little girls could be looking down at female characters or even each other for having a love and that is counterproductive. That is not pro-women, that is women vs women. It’s okay to be single and it’s also okay to be in a relationship.

Oh, and one last thing, if you liked this post, I’ve also made a post on why It’s Okay to be a Disney Princess - check it out, if you’re interested!

okay like I have a really difficult time understanding why people find Chaol’s character to be interesting /at all/. I find him to be so annoying because he’s like that moderate liberal white boy who thinks women should be allowed to have abortions but also wants a wife who stays home in the kitchen. Where she belongs. He’s like, a total Dean from Gilmore Girls. He’s /so/ convinced that he’s a nice guy who knows what the right thing to do is all the time.

Like even in Tog and CoM he’s that textbook guard character who is bound by some unrealistic sense of honor and duty and thinks he understands the ins and outs of morality. But of course that honor doesn’t allow for things driven by emotion. That honor doesn’t allow for survival unless it plays by his rules. That honor doesn’t allow for power in the hands of women. And that honor doesn’t allow for killing those who have wronged you. Chaol is like…the least likely character to succeed in a zombie apocalypse. He holds everyone to some moral code, and damns them when they don’t live up to it (he does this with Celaena in CoM and basically all of QoS). Inflexible morality and honor inevitably leads to problems because it doesn’t allow for understanding of emotional conflicts, nor does it allow for forgiveness when those emotions drive people to do bad things. Chaol damns Celaena for killing Nehemia’s murderers. Rowan just accepts it and is like “good.” Chaol thinks Aelin’s power makes her a monster. He thinks less of her because she is fae. Rowan is like “okay you’re fae. whatever. show me what you’ve got.” Rowan is infinitely more interesting than Chaol, as a love interest, and a man, because where Chaol’s sense of honor is based on some hard lined Moral Code™, Rowan’s sense of honor is based on protecting those close to him. Once he claims Aelin, its clear that his moral compass now has one direction: protect and help and love and serve Aelin Galathynius to the best of my abilities, and the rest of the world be damned. Chaol’s love for Aelin is bound by his inability to reconcile her past as an assassin and her fae heritage with his immovable and someone flawed moral code.

In the end, it becomes clear that Chaol is just pissed that Aelin is so much more than he is. Greater than anything he will ever be. Rather than supporting her and attempting to help her, he pushes her away, damning her for not fitting into his carefully crafted view of the way humans are supposed to act.

Maybe some ppl like Chaol and his sense of honor, but I’ve read enough books on medieval chivalry to know that that bullshit ain’t for me.

Okay but I really hope they flesh out Maggie and she becomes more than just Alex’s love interest? She’s not a guest star, she’s not even a recurring character. She’s a regular. White cracker Mon-El who could literally extinguish a blazing fire with his boring ass has his own little arc about finding out who he wants to be.

I want to see Maggie’s story, how did she get to NCPD, where’s her family? Any best friends? I want a story arc for her separate from Alex. Not only will it give us insight into her character for future shipping purposes, it will also make her seem more real, more relatable.

Give us the Maggie Sawyer we deserve.

Sit down buckaroos because I’m gonna share some historical insight with you because of ignorant people who are trying to discard the most badass character in all of feminist characters in musical theatre history and I won’t take that.

Katherine Ethel Pulitzer was a real person - daughter of Joseph and Kate Pulitzer. So there’s fact number 1 to prove she was an actual living person in the 1800’s. Fact 2. When you say women weren’t journalists back then well you obviously have never heard nor read about Elizabeth Jane Cochran also known by her pen name “Nellie Bly”. She was the inspiration behind Katherine’s character in the first place. They basically merged the real Katherine with Nellie and created this character. Nellie Bly began writing for “The Pittsburg Dispatch” in 1885 and moved to New York City two years later to begin working at “New York World”. She was known for her investigative and undercover reporting, including posing as a sweatshop worker to expose poor working conditions faced by women. She earned her acclaim in 1887 when she went undercover at an asylum on Blackwell’s Island and posed as one of the patients to get the story and in turn had launched a full on investigation on the treatment of the institution and the well being of patients (which wasn’t a well being at all with neglect and physical abuse) in said facility. In 1889 she went around the world in a record-setting 72 days, 6 hours, 11 minutes and 14 seconds in attempt to break the faux record of Phileas Fogg, the fictional title character in Jules Verne’s novel “Around the World in 80 Days”. At the age of 18 (my age) she submitted a racy response to an editorial piece that had been published in The Pittsburgh Dispatch that made sexist statements towards women. The writer was Erasmus Wilson (known as the Quiet Observer or Q.O.) Nellie’s letter grabbed the attention of the paper’s managing editor, George Madden, who then offered her a position. She later published a book about the experience titled: “Around the World in 72 Days” in 1890.

So don’t you DARE tell me Katherine Plumber wasn’t a vital asset to these boy’s story. She’s more of an inspiration to me than ANY character I’ve read about. Nellie Bly is an inspiration who makes me want a writing career. I am very much like Katherine (in more ways than just having power bangs) and because of her I’ve learned to love myself. Because of her I can get through days when I’ve got a shit ton of Senior year homework knocking me down. Because of her I’m happier. Katherine and Nellie are huge inspirations to me and if you hate either one of them just unfollow me now. Because these two are my role models and always will be❤

Okay so among many other aspects of Moana, I just really appreciate and love the fact that Moana, a 16-year old girl, is voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, a 16-year old girl. So many “Disney Princess” characters are voiced by women who are much older than the character herself, and Auli’i’s performance in Moana has so much authenticity in it from the mere fact that SHE IS 16 YEARS OLD AND SHE SOUNDS LIKE SHE’S 16 YEARS OLD. I LOVE IT.

Tosaki’s wedding

Haha okay so: 31.07. Day 7: rest?  | anything goes  | sun

I decided to take this day to draw Tosaki’s wedding (with his fiance, I think her name is Ai?) in a happy ending maybe…haha I don’t know it seemed like a funny idea in my mind XD and drawing all this crap was actually really fun. So this was clearly meant to be ridiculous so, what the hell? I just hope you enjoy and laugh with me at this shit I made.

Since Ajin is such a dense manga, and I really love the characters, sometimes I just feel like I want to see them doing stupid things together… (unfortunately I didn’t think it’d be right to include Sato and the others here xd except for Tanaka, cuz he’s just a cinnamon roll).

(Anyway I apologize for the bad quality of some drawings that are next ): when I’ve my computer fixed, I’ll make them well).

MORE RIDICULOUS STUFF BELOW!

what she says: i love freeze your brain

what she means: If you look at Freeze Your Brain at face value, you could easily interperet it as simply about JD’s fixation on 7/11 and his issues oversharing. But it’s really more about a place that feels normal and familiar and safe in a frightening and new situation. It’s easy to overlook this, as a lot of the song is made to be comedic. Take the lines “When mom was alive/we lived halfway normal./Now it’s just me and my dad,/we’re less formal” for example. During the musical, it’s easy to focus more on Veronica freaking out than on JD’s words and their meaning. This is done intentionally, as if to show that JD hides how hurt he is about his mother’s death with other emotions, as many people do. Towards the end, it is shown that JD uses slushies to control a possible self-harm habit and self-destructive thoughts, and that’s when the gravity of the song hits you. Despite sounding light-hearted, Freeze Your Brain is about a teenager trying to hold onto the one place that makes him feel safe and happy no matter where he is. If you consider the possibility that his mother introduced him to 7/11, it’s also about trying to recapture childhood emotions, despite the fact that so many things have changed.

Weak- Cassian Andor

Prompt: #47: “How am I supposed to do anything when you’re looking at me like that”

Warnings: None, just kissing and angst. My usual MO.

A/N: Okay so I know this has primarily been a Percivan Graves content blog for a while now, but I couldn’t resist. And I had a lot of encouragement so thank you xD I hope this turned out alright…he’s a difficult character to capture but I really, really loved writing this! Let me know what you think!

I heard footsteps coming up the ramp and turned to look over my shoulder. I smiled as Cassian poked his head around the corner. I should’ve expected him to turn up at some point. He seemed to know me better than I knew myself. I’d gone to the ship in an attempt to be alone, to gather my thoughts before tomorrow. Sleep was evading me, the way it always did before a big battle. Only this time it was different. I had a feeling about this particular battle, though it was a feeling I didn’t want to dwell on for too long. Cassian was about the only person I wanted to see right now anyways.

“Shouldn’t you be resting, Captain?” I asked, going back to cleaning my gun.

  • What she says: “Yeah, I’m fine.”
  • What she means: “Okay listen, the show Freaks and Geeks was really great, it was funny and well cast and it let you really get to know and love the characters as though they’re your friends too and not just part of some tv series, the show really had some depth to it and the characters went through stuff we can all relate to, it wasn’t just some cliché high school show either, there were cheesy moments but that happens in real life too, the show was way ahead of its time and I can’t believe there’s only 18 episodes, how can you cancel such a great show after only one season?”

did i mention how much i loved that Eun Tak was portrayed as doing everything for herself?

like, the woman she became wasn’t the result of Shin’s love, or knowing Shin, or him making her stronger etc because she didn’t remember him

that beautiful woman we meet at the age of 29 is all of her own creation. her goals, her strength and her willpower.

and going from that young girl who just needed someone to lean on, to a grown woman who helped herself throughout her worst, i think it was some really beautiful character development.

there was no cheesy “his love made me stronger”, it was her own love that made her the person she became.
