i just read her interview and wanted to use this quote

Wait what con artist from 2014

I’d like to title this story “Swing And A Miss

Okay, so my high school had this program where seniors could leave school like a month and a half early and opt out of exams if they took on internships around the neighborhood, but not everyone wanted to/was eligible to do it. Back in like 2013, they had like 15 bored seniors stuck in the school, so the administration brought in this Professional Life Coach, left him in alone in a room with them for two hours to talk to them about like, self-esteem or some shit. All the kids were pulled out of their classes for this*, and later told the administration that they loved him, they really enjoyed the talk.

So, about a year later, we have a new principal. He’s supposed to set up an assembly for all the 11th and 12th graders, but he doesn’t know what to do. One of his coworkers mentions that there was a life coach that was a huge hit with the kids that didn’t do community study last year, so maybe he’d also be great for a larger audience. The principal basically thinks “okay, what the hell” and calls up and hires Jason C. Jean to come talk to the kids.

Now, it’s like, 10:30, maybe 11:00 in the morning, and two entire grades are getting shepherded to the main gymnasium, and no one wants to God damn be there. We ain’t got time for self esteem talks. We want to sleep. And this guy, watching us all drag our feet in and collapse into the bleachers was just like…offensively peppy. There’s a couple faculty members sitting behind him, the woman who suggested he be hired for this, the vice principals for the grades- but the principal himself kept getting calls so he was in and out the whole time.

Now, Mr. Jean was like…the chill “Just call me by my first name dude” history professor at college times 30. He was trying so fucking hard. I’m referring to him as ‘Mr. Jean’ in this story just to be disrespectful. So anyway, we all get in there, and he tells us right off the bat “You guys are totally allowed to be on your phones and laptops during this! I get it! It’s no problem, like really, I insist!” so while the faculty members are exchanging smiles that read ‘how do we kill that while respecting him’, all the kids are immediately pulling out their electronics and he’s starts his speech.

Now, again, I really wanna reiterate that he told us we could be on our phones- because when the news articles started coming out about this, I remember all these angry, annoying comments from old people like “Why the hell were the students on their phones in the first place! So disrespectful! These damn millennials and their social media!” like, they were completely ignoring the entire story and just focusing in on kids using the internet, and it Really Super Pissed Me Off, so. Again, we had permission for this (which also ended up being Mr. Jean’s fatal mistake).

So, he starts off this speech fairly normally, like ‘hi, I’m Jason, I’m a professional life coach and I wanna teach you kids about how to be The Best You!’ and like people were tuning him out and listening to varying degrees. Some kids (like myself) were kinda dozing off, and everyone was on twitter or facebook.

His approach to a self esteem speech seemed to be ‘let me tell you my entire life story for hours’ and like, at first I was like “I’m not really hearing this, I’m half dreaming right now” but the more I started making myself pay attention the more…bizarre and rambling his story got.

So like, for instance, he told us he drank a lot in high school. Like, a lot. But he didn’t use that as a ‘don’t drink or party too hard’ lesson, instead he was like “I was fourteen so I always called my parents to pick me up, and they weren’t mad because they knew it meant I could trust them. So remember, always tell your parents when you’re drinking!” and then it kinda got to a point where it sounded like he was encouraging partying and drinking and the like to the group of underage kids.

And then, he told us how he used to play baseball all the time when he was a kid, and at 16 reached a crossroads in his life where the Phillies wanted to draft him or he could go play football for Penn State. And he said he went with Penn State but later lost the scholarship for some reason and we’re like…really.

There was absolutely nothing coherent about anything he was saying- nothing that tied anything together, made a point, seemed like it had anything to do with an assembly on self esteem. He told us at one point he was making upwards of 7 million a year. He told us one time before college he was homeless. He told us he used to own a construction company and built his own branch of nightclubs himself, that he and his friend then ran. He told us he fought a shark and came out with no scars. He told us that he had less money now, because after surviving a work related accident- direct quote- “I fell almost 30 feet and I broke in half” - he decided to leave that industry and spend more time with his family.

So, yeah, I was pretty positive this was bullshit, but there were clearly kids in the room that were falling for it. But then he said something like…he and his friend got bored one day and started jarring up their own pasta sauce, and made a deal with wegmans or some store like that to start selling it, and now he has a pasta sauce empire. Like he spent 15 fucking minutes on this. The way he kept saying ‘pasta sauce’ was so annoying I was about to claw my ears out. But anyway, two girls in my grade wanted to find out what brand he was talking about, so they googled his name.

And then quietly gasped.

And then furiously started typing into their phones.

And remember- everyone, even though they were paying attention- was on twitter and facebook. All the sudden I see heads flying up and wide eyes and people whispering to each other. Mr. Jean doesn’t seem to notice the change and keeps rambling on, but I know something happened so I google him too and-

Okay so basically he’s 1) been arrested, 2) filed for bankruptcy like three times and 3) has been hailed as a ‘Swinger Guru’ by playboy.

EVERYONES SILENTLY FLIPPING OUT.

So by now, this is a fucking game- he still doesn’t notice anything wrong amongst the kids, so we’re all silently texting each other to fill each other in. Pulling up receipts. But still playing the part of politely intrigued audience members. The school faculty have no fucking idea what’s going on, until one of the students texts her mom, who happens to be the woman that convinced the principal to hire this guy. We see her check her phone, go wide-eyed, and she runs out of the fucking room presumably to either find the principal or hide in terror.

So Mr. Jean had been talking to random people intermittently throughout this speech, but we reach the ‘questions’ part of it. Everyone seems to silently agree that instead of just asking him anything outright, we should just see how good of a liar he was. So they’d be asking him stuff like ‘how much money did you make with ____ company’ and he’d give a ridiculously high number as people were sending each other reports of him filing for bankruptcy during that time. Or they asked him about his construction business which he said was great, and while he was talking about how great it was we were all reading his arrest report, from when a woman hired him to build her house, and he took her money and then like…just didn’t build anything. Wild. Someone asked him about his family and he’s extolling Christian virtues while we’re all on the website for his annual Swing Fest. People would ask him how he got certain jobs and he was making promises to hook kids up in interviews and shit. Everyone was loosing their God damn minds online and just barely holding it together in person. This man was so beyond full of shit- like, he was a God awful life coach but his dedication to lying was inspirational.

We eventually get to leave and everyone is yelling and cracking up and freaking out, all running to our classes to tell the teachers and the underclassmen everything, and the teachers are freaking out, alternating between horrified confusion and laughing hysterically. Before the school day even ended, someone had called a bunch of news stations. The principal was freaking out and denying he had anything to do with it, before calling some students to his office to see what exactly the kids had searched up on the guy…Because apparently teenagers can perform better background checks than school officials. It was all anyone could talk about for weeks.

A couple months after this, for my theater class’ showcase, I wrote and directed a skit called ‘Mason B. Mean’. It was a huge hit. The principal was in the audience. I’ve never seen a grown man look so dead inside. I made sure I was out of the room before he came up to congratulate the cast and everything. The next day, my theater teacher told me his only comment about the skit was a quiet, long-suffering “Why.” 😂😂

Annnnnnnnd that’s the time a Swinger Entrepreneur rambled on about pasta sauce and money in front of teenagers who knew how to use google for almost two hours.

**A Former Journalist’s Perspective on the Above:

Ok guys, let’s stop for a second and break this down–

Things Rian has said:

–There will not be a Han-Leia TYPE romance.
–I.e. this will not be a frustrating, unrequited love type thing.
–This TYPE of relationship dynamic will not be a centerpiece.

Things the VF writer assumed from Rian’s statement:

–That this somehow means there will be no romance at all.
–They assumed that just because the romance wouldn’t be the unrequited type that that somehow means no other kinds of romance at all. That is NOT what Rian said.

I used to work as a journalist for a massive international news network, and let me tell you- the number one mistake we were NEVER allowed to make was *assume* something from a statement- ‘assumptions’ being the hallmark of American journalism.

If I were responsible for writing or researching this story for my past job, I’d have had to get a direct quote saying “there is *no* romance in 8″. Hands down, if I did not have that direct quote, I would NEVER have been allowed to make such a statement. But not only is that quote NOT here, but the writer makes the egregious mistake of *assuming* that one type not being there is equivalent to NONE being there.

This, my friends, is most likely going to backfire. A bit like how JJ let slip that Rey’s parents weren’t in 7 and then badly tried to backpedal in a later statement.

Basically I think Rian will come back and personally amend the article’s assumption, either through twitter or in another interview. Because going by his quote, this is literally ALL you can *actually* take from it:

Things that Rian ACTUALLY said according to his statement, without the writer’s assumptions tacked on:

–The TYPE of romance Han and Leia had, i.e. grump vs. lovable cad, is not a type we’ll see here.
–That type of romance seen in the OT will not be a “centerpiece” to this trilogy”

Things Rian did NOT say according to his statement:

–There will be no romance (he did not say this!! He only specified a certain type!)
–That there will be no Rey-Kylo romance. (he did NOT say this! Again, he only specified a certain type! Not a pairing)
–That there will be no Finn-Poe romance. (again, he didn’t say this! Stormpilot wouldn’t even have the potential to fit into the angst dynamic Rian describes anyway)

Keep in mind the writer’s reporting bias!

The writer specifically pointed out ships by name. This is a person who has at least read a buzzfeed article about different types of SW ships, and yes, if you don’t think journalists read other peoples’ work for leads on their own stories, you’re dreaming- we do it constantly. If this person was out to debunk all ships, considering the writer works for ‘Vanity Fair’ and NOT a news outlet, he could swing Rian’s “not this TYPE of romance” statement in any direction he personally wanted to. And it seems he took it and turned it into an assumption of ‘no romance’ when Rian clearly never said that, is not quoted as saying that, only said that a certain TYPE of romance we’ve seen in the past wouldn’t be there.

Short FAQ:

Q: But wouldn’t LF/Disney have to approve the article before it’s published to make sure it’s accurate???
A: NO. This is not how journalism, even the type VF does, works. I’ve had people in the past ask me for advance copies of stories to ‘approve’ and we’ve always politely told them no and subtly that that was an absurd request. SW also has a VERY long-running relationship with VF, which would mean an even more hands-off approach anyway.

So Let’s Make Our Own More Educated, Objective Assumptions (since the fandom aren’t journalists and allowed to):

–Everyone is STILL outrightly dodging the topic of discussing the Kylo/Rey dynamic. This is significant. This is the type of bone you want to chase. Clearly nobody’s being allowed to. Remember who is depicted on the teaser poster!

–Since only a certain TYPE of romantic dynamic we’ve seen in the past won’t be happening, that leaves us with a whole slew of others. If unrequited love isn’t on the menu, then the opposite of that is REQUITED. If it won’t be “burning”, then it could be MEANINGFUL. All Rian’s done is scratched one potential item off the menu- it doesn’t meant the rest of the menu isn’t still there! When you look at most of our fanfiction anyway, is it really unrequited love? Or is it almost always an underlying understanding of “Oh god, this is happening- this is scary but it’s almost fatalistically inevitable!” We may not have been barking up the wrong tree here on how this will play out.

–When Carrie was asked at the 2016 Wizard World con in Chicago if any of the characters would be friends with Kylo (who she kept calling “her son”) the FIRST WORDS out of her mouth were “Well Rey is very forgiving…” but then after the slip (yes, slip!) she immediately tried to backpedal and say “He’s an asshole”. THAT, my friends is solid- Carrie was asked about friendship with Kylo, and the first person she names is Rey. No, she did not say directly that they would be friends- she CAN’T say something THAT specific. Saying something like that would be extremely specific. But the fact that she named ONE character in a POSITIVE vein with regards to Kylo is the closest she can legally get to saying “Rey and Kylo will have a working, friendly relationship at the minimum” without the Disney lawyers coming after her, which is why she amended with a negative statement by calling Kylo an “asshole”.

KEEP IN MIND: Production for the new SW films is slippery as fuck. They will wrap you up in semantics if they think they can make your brain redirect, and then when something actually DOES happen later, smile enigmatically, shrug their shoulders, and quote obi-wan by saying “Well by a certain point of view!”

So to recap on the highlights:

-DON’T let a writer’s possible anti-shipping bias influence you
-DON’T let poor assumptive journalism confuse you- again, making assumptions without the blatant facts to back them up are a classic hallmark of American journalism and international journalists are VERY keenly aware of this problem and have to work around it constantly
-DON’T take Rian’s statement about ONE TYPE of romance happening to mean *no* romance is happening because that is NOT what he said!

Personally, I’m not that concerned- I do not feel that reylo is impacted by this guy’s assumptions nor Rian’s statements because all he’s said is that OT-type unrequited love won’t be a main strain of the story. Well that leaves a bazillion other juicy possibilities. This writer has made some assumptions that *cast* members have already somewhat contradicted, and personally I’m more inclined to believe them than some dude writing for VF. I also do not condone supposedly reputable publications twisting around quotations from production and making *massive* assumptions, because what this guy has done is exactly that. It’s *massive* to sweep *ALL* romance off the board when Rian didn’t even say that!! This clear bias and disregard for what was actually said makes me question the validity of the rest of his articles. If I were still working in journalism looking for story leads, I’d take things this guy has said with a grain of salt and tread very carefully after reading a good word twisting like that. Those are the sorts of things that make reporting very unreliable.

I’m not sure how to end this, so I’ll just say that I hope this has helped, I hope this has also shed some light on how these things work and how they SHOULDN’T work, and frankly, KEEP SHIPPING, GUYS because I don’t think anything has been killed or debunked or anything like that. If anything I feel like if unrequited love isn’t happening, the requited love is that much more of a strong possibility and BOY should that make the ants quake in their boots with fear. >:3

Follow Your Dreams

Characters: Jensen x Reader, Conan O’Brien, Jared Padalecki

Warnings: Nothing but FLUFF (come on, do you know me by now?)

Word Count: 1k

A/N: This story is for @impalaimagining’s cheesy pick-up challenge that I COMPLETELY let fall through the cracks. It’s so late it isn’t even funny. I picked the line, “Do you mind if I walk you home? My mother always told me to follow my dreams.” And thanks to @atc74 for submitting the above gif of Jensen. It took a LOT of necessary staring to come up with this blurb. Hope you enjoy it!

Feedback Appreciated

If you want to unstan...

I’ve seen many of you losing interest or more like beginning to change your stanning experience. When I first began to read things about the industry & stuff, I sort of got this discourage as well. It hurt me to know that my idols’ lives weren’t as real as I had in mind. But now, more woke than I could ever imagine, I realise… After all they’ve gone through, I admire them even more & how lucky, how truly lucky I got when these five ladies entered into my life.

They’re not robots. Yes, they’ve gone through things we would consider extremist & unrealistic but let me tell you something: We fell in love with 5 beautiful humans who grant us access to a little piece of their hearts in every interview, in every performance, in every snap story.

Just because their lives happen to be quite frenetic at times or happen to be quite hard to understand for us fans, doesn’t mean they feel any less, that they are any less normal. Well, in this latter, maybe I’m wrong… You know what? Forgot what I just said, they’re not normal, they’re exceptional.

“Not all heroes wear capes” As cliché as it may sound, it’s nothing else but the truth. The five of them have saved more lives than we could picture. They’ve helped so many souls out there (including mine) to heal whatever wounds we had, wounds crying out desperately for attention. To mend whatever broken piece we had inside, that kept on thickening the cut. They’ve been there every step of that unsteady path. Even if it’s them doing the dumbest video, while watching it you can’t fight that grin. You can’t even try, cause you know damn well won’t resist to those five goofy smiles . Camila was right, some people don’t understand one of the many meanings behind idolisation.

WARNING: see below

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ.

Warning: Please don’t listen to the audio if you are in any way uncomfortable with sexual things. This Audio was included as part of proof in a call out post I should’ve made a while ago.

I’m sure everyone knows the story of how I met Ultima. It’s quite a funny story actually, I insulted his teeth on a livestream and that led to us getting an interview arranged. Shortly after he interviewed me and Vade, we starting talking a decent amount. It was clear he wanted to date me, and I told him that that summer I just wanted to focus on my studies, but he insisted that we give each other a chance. So I agreed, and we started going out early August. There were a few things that made me uncomfortable in the relationship, but nothing that I thought was damning. He was very insistent that we sext, even when I repeatedly told him no. However I figured it was just a thing that happened in online relationships, since I had previously never had one, and went with it. Nevertheless, we dated for about a month until I fully realized that this wasn’t attractive to me, and that he as a person wasn’t attractive to me, and I tried to break up with him.

I’ll say now that I was definitely not sinless in this relationship, and didn’t stand up for myself in times that I should’ve. I let things happen that I shouldn’t have let happen, and for that I do apologize. I’m obviously not very experienced, and he took advantage of that. When I tried to break up with him, he said a lot of things that set off the Psychologist alarm bells in my head. He told me only he would ever treat me well, and that I would never find someone who would give even half the same kind of love of respect. I’ll find the exact quote: “The worst part of all of this is that YOU are the one who will be losing the most in this situation. I will move on and you will be the one who has a higher chance of regretting the decision to just let me go.”

He then said he would forgive me for this “mistake” if I just agreed to drop it and get back together with him. I insisted that this was my decision that I wanted to make and that was that. A few days later, he contacted me saying that he wanted to get back together. I declined. A few weeks later, he again insisted that we get back together, and that even if we didn’t he asked if he could fly up to my apartment in December and have sex. I again declined. By this point I was dating hawker, and specifically told him we were together. He again asked if we wanted to get back together. I told him quite forcefully that I was dating hawker, and insisted he stop asking.

He still asked occasionally, but it wasn’t until December that I really realized what was going on. Ultima sent me an audio. Remember, this is about 2 months after me and hawker started dating, and he was fully aware of this fact. He sent me an audio fantasizing about having sex with me, completely out of the blue. (AUDIO IS INCLUDED ABOVE). REMEMBER THIS WAS AFTER I HAD REJECTED HIM AND HE KNOWS IM GOING OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE. It was around that same time I got some more information.

Jenn came to me and asked a question about Ultima. She told me what had happened (see her blog), and I immediately told him that both the audio and the fact that he did this to Jenn really made me uncomfortable, and I didn’t want to be in contact with him further.

A bit of time passed, and more inconsistencies started to pop up. Upon asking around, both Camila and others he had interviewed had a similar experience. Then, when I confronted him about him pestering other people to date him as well, he blatantly lied to me, saying that they were the ones who had pursued him. Then things began to unfurl, and I realized he had been manipulating and pestering almost every woman he had interviewed.

I didn’t want to make this post to be a vindictive bitch, or to throw him under the bus or anything. I just really wanted to warn people about what type of person he actually is. By all means, if you like his content, watch his content, but don’t think for a second that he is the person he says he is.

I honestly was fooled by his nice guy approach. When Vade and a few more friends told me that he was doing some really questionable things, I defended him. Even now, I’m still feeling a little bad for doing this. But I also got into this mess by not saying what I needed to say when I needed to say it, so I’m going to do that now.

If you are a woman that he’s interviewed and he asks you out, think very carefully about if you want to say yes. Don’t let him pester you, and don’t let him get his way. If he sends you explicit pictures, block him and report him.

This is also hopefully to show him not to do this in the future. I’m sincerely not trying to ruin his life, and I’m pretty torn up about doing this, but it needs to be done.

I have come to take you away.”

“For your own knowledge, if you ever think that you don’t matter, I want to tell you something. To me, you’re the only thing in the whole world that matters.” - US Festival, 1983.

“So this is like for me a very special time, because I feel wild, I’m very wild and so is my audience and there is that incredible … We are all in love, everybody’s in love and I feel it when I walk out on stage and they feel it… And its like, you know, it’s really deep and very much all consuming for me. I said a long time ago, I would not hedge. If I was going to be a writer I was going to write down the truth. I wasn’t going to name names and be unkind, but I was going to tell the truth. I don’t have any reason to not, and if I am going to write and I going to make these songs experiences that I know everyone of you have had, that when you have that experience and you hear that song, you’ll click into it and you will know exactly what I am talking about. And, those are the only people I care about, the people that understand that, if you read between my lines. No one knows unless you really look. That’s the people I write for, because someone needs to write about what is happening to all of us.” - MTV Interview, 1983.

“I would just like them to know how much I care about them. And to know that it’s not hard to give up the rest of my life for them because it’s what I want and I just want them to be happy and feel good. And I wanna enhance their life a little bit..” - MTV Interview, 1983.

“I am in love with the people that I write songs for. My love is donated and dedicated completely to my audience. It’s very difficult for me to give. You know when I walk out on the stage it’s like that’s when I’m really me. When I walk home and go back into my hotel room, I don’t even want to talk about anything else, you know. In my heart, the love that I have for the people that I play for and write songs for, those kids that I jump off the stage and attack security… That they matter so much to me that’s it’s difficult for anything else to matter to me. I’m not willing to compromise. Anything that comes into my life is a compromise to me. I don’t even, I can’t go to the dentist or the doctor or anything because I have no time. So anything that comes into my life is a compromise, except my singing and my being there for rehearsal and my being there on Monday morning for that airplane and I am into the sea Tuesday night. You know that’s that Jim. That’s it. That’s the end. - Jim Ladd Interview, 1983.

“The people who listen to me sing, the kids in Australia, the kids in the United States, the kids in Europe, anybody… My friends, you, anybody who wants me to sit down and sing for them. That makes it worth it.” - The Meldrum Tapes Interview, 1986.

“When I look at the audience out there, it’s like I’m looking at my children.” - Record Mirror, May, 1989.

“Sometimes I’ll be sitting in an airport or someplace, waiting, absolutely exhausted, maybe I’m late for a rehearsal or something, and all I really want to do is be alone at home reading in a bubble bath. I’ll be just about to completely lose it when some shy person will carefully approach me and tell me about how much a certain song of mine helped them though a crisis or a time in their own life… That’s exactly what makes it all worth it. It’s all about love, and trust, and acceptance, and it is completely priceless.” 1994

“Well, you know, let’s see what is my relationship the fans? It’s everything, it is everything for me you know to know that people love my music, is like you know… It completes my life, it gives my life closure and makes me understand what all this has been for.“ - WMGK Radio, July, 1998

"Once I write a song that connects with people, they don’t ever forget that connection. So I think a lot of connections were made in the very, very beginning that made it last through now. Because those were such strong ties that were made then, that they just were never broken.” - VH1 Behind The Music, 1998.

“I just want to affect people, I just wanna get… And I get little notes and they’re all in my journals, you know, just like what you just said, a little note written on a paper that’s just signed “love, Amber”, and I never get to see Amber or talk with her in person but I have that little note that says “there were times in my life where I just thought I wasn’t gonna make it. It was dark; it was a dark place…” I think I get the things I’m supposed to get, of course I don’t get everything but I’ll go into my room and my assistant will have laid out like five or six things on my bed and I’ll sit there when I’m gone to bed, and I’ll sit there cross-legged and I’ll read these things. And then I’ll stick them into my journal so my journals are big anyway, but then they are like full because I have lots of things that I want to leave right where they were when I got them. I want them to be on September 19th, 2012. I wanna have them there always. I get the things I’m supposed to get and I talk to the people I’m supposed to talk to. That’s how I look at it. We are the chess pieces and somebody up there, the spirits are moving us all around and moving us together. And I’m not going away, I’m going to continue to write these poems for you as long as I can.” - Mill Valey Film Festival, October, 2012.

“I’m not married, I don’t have kids, I have a tiny little crazy dog who’s 14. I have my music that I love and what I do is I write stuff for you, that’s what I do.“ - Mill Valey Film Festival, October, 2012.

“We are not making this (In Your Dreams documentary) for us, we’re making this for you. (…) We are very, very aware as writers that you are going through the relationships that we are talking about, right along with us. It’s happening at this very moment to all of you here also, we understand that. You’re not a songwriter, we’ll write the songs for you. And we’re making you into songwriters and we’re making you experience your life also (through the songs) and that’s what a writer does. If this little movie does just a little bit of that, just reaches out and makes each one of you you sit at the desk with a pen, hopefully a pen and a piece of paper, this beautiful stationary, and writes down what happens to you and you’re doing what we are trying to do to make you do that.” - Hamptons Film Festival, October, 2012.

"We just bounce off of each other. I throw the dreams out there and you throw them back at me and that’s how we make this together. This is not anything that’s done by one person. It happens because we’re a team. And you are my team. You are. And I mean it.” - Canadian Premiere of In Your Dreams, April, 2013.

“You guys need music as much as I need to make music for you. I’m tired, but I’ll never be tired of this or of you.” - 24 Karat Gold Tour, 2016.

I was reading your rendition of Just Hold On, (which was simply marvelous), and I wondered. Sweet Creature was made shortly after Harry's birthday. And the letter of SOTT, also passes a message that is to hold. Do you think these songs have any relation? It's hard to think of coincidences when it comes to Harry and Louis.

Hi!

I had some vague thoughts about the relationship between JHO and SOTT, and this question forced me to focus my thoughts. So here they are.

Previously, I had talked about JHO as a song of affirmation and reassurance following Jay’s death. But JHO is also a love song, as the music video showed us. Not merely a love song, but a love song with pointed references to Harry and Louis (the jacket colors, the baseball cap/ fedora, the first meeting in a concert and then meeting later outside of the concert, the travel to multiple music venues around the world, the love that is not only intoxicating but domestic and ends in marriage).

SOTT also has pointed references to Jay. Harry says in his Rolling Stone interview, “The song is written from a point of view as if a mother was giving birth to a child and there’s a complication. The mother is told, ‘The child is fine, but you’re not going to make it.’ The mother has five minutes to tell the child, ‘Go forth and conquer.‘”

I had sort of dismissed this quote, but after reading this post, I could be convinced of the song as a description of Jay’s wish for her child’s career to blossom– as a way of saying good-bye, but also giving her blessing to her child. The child’s “birth” is the career coming to fruition.

I LOVE BELLARKE SO MUCH I THINK THAT MY OWN LOVE LIFE IS ZERO BECAUSE OF THEM, BUT JASON AND HIS INTERVIEWS ARE GETTING ON MY NERVES, LIKE DUDE ARE U FUCKING SERIOUS THAT BECHO IS GONNA HAPPEN AND A BECHO BABY, PLZ TELL ME THIS IS NOT TRUE CUZ  I WILL DIE IF THEY BELLARKE IS NOT GONNA HAPPEN. PLUS IM WORRIED THAT IF JASON STILL DON’T MAKE THEM CANON, IDK IF THE SHOW WILL GET A SEASON 6 OR NOT? AND TEEN WOLF SHIT WILL HAPPEEN TO BELLARKE JUST LIKE STYDIA

camila says:

BREAAAATHEEE NONIE

1- Jason’s interviews were great for us? Everyone should read ALL Jason interviews instead of taking pieces here and there and freaking oout. Jason said there are sparks there between Bellamy and Echo… which could mean anything? They said his relationship with Echo was interesting etc at the beginning of season 4 and everyone freaked out and look at what happened………..

(nothing)

so BREATHE. I’m the first person to tell you IGNORE WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND THE SCENES, on the 100 those are so tricky. I only trust what i see on the plot and if i can correlate it to what is happening on the interviews etc- then okay. If not, then i wait for the show.

BUT. Since people are worried and think the writers hate us or something - and please if anyone comes at me saying the writers are baiting i will only come back at you and say then everything they say (SUPPOSDELY) “bad” for  us can be ignored;

and here are receipts IN OUR FAVOUR (which people like to ignore):

on that SpoilerTV article quoted, this is what was said:

(for anyone that watched this reaction vid, you know what was said and what they ship. if you haven’t watched it… then GO)

now to things Jason said (and wait until the final one cause they escalate):

but clearly, obviously Bellamy means a lot to her. This is HER PARTNER. She doesn’t even know the dude is alive (and she’s calling him every day)-

(No question- NO. NO. NO QUESTION- is the MOST important relationship of the show.

Repeat after me.

The most important relationship of the show.

- can we talk about how he was like.”… [Bellamy] reacts emotionally to things (…) “ and whow he’s talking about Bellamy reacting emotionally to Clarke:

But wait, cause I know that “no question” answer up there ain’t enough, you are mad he is talking about “In terms of leaders yada yadda”- but he actually continued on the same interview:

have ALWAYS been the CENTER of this show. Has ALWAYS been the story of Clarke and HER RELATIONSHIP TO BELLAMY (…) ROMANTIC or otherwise (…) UNTIL WE COMMIT CANONICALLY TO IT.

Everyone can say what they want about the sparkles Becho quote, they can have it. I’d prefer these quotes we got up there any time, any day.

And listen, until Bellarke becomes canon on the show they’ll never say it on the interviews. But it doesn’t mean (for a second) that it won’t happen.

As for everything else, we can’t control it. So breathe. We can’t know if they’ll make bellarke canon on season 5 or not or ever (i bet my liver yes but okay). but it’s no use for us to be hanging on interviews and angry at the writers when we don’t even have a glimpse of season 5.

Cause lemme tell you Jason has been saying we are crazy to see so much in bellarke for YEARS and now he admitted all that you just saw. Analyzing the plot and the text is ALWAYS what works the most. And if we don’t have the text then it’s no use to walk in circles yelling at the writers.

Right now the text tell us Bellarke is some epic shiz love story, right now the text DOES show us bellarke is the most imporant relationship of the show (as it always has). And that’s what is true until season 5 airs.

Then we worry about what we KNOW we have to worry about. Chasing ghosts will do us no good.

(and btw he never said becho baby at all. This is fandom exaggerating. he said there could be babies, didn’t even say WHERE - we do have a bunker there. And he also said working with kid- actors is hard so the number of kids wil be limited yada yada)

Mixed up relationship (daveed x reader)

{a/n: so this started as a fic that would be angsty but turned into kink filled smut…also its daveed so like…yeah…um enjoy you filthy sinners}

Warnings: SMUT! Daddy kink, choking, Daveed being the sex God he is, sexxxxxx!

Tapping your pen against your desk, you sighed, no lyrics came, sometimes you wished you had daveeds talent of words, you closed your notebook, grabbing your phone, clicking it open, you had quite a few texts from various friends
‘Um..daveeds new podcast interview is up… maybe don’t listen to this one…they sort of talked a whole lot about you and daveeds very….quote mixed up relationship end quote’ sighing you rolled your eyes, it wasn’t uncommon for a tweet or a passing conversation to be thrust into your face of how very odd people found the fact daveed was dating as one person said ‘a stale piece of white bread’ nice, but people were always like that when the person they love starts dating someone who isn’t them, and it was maybe one person two at worst, for you things seemed fine, and daveed never hid his affection for you, never let people’s words sway how he felt, he had the attitude of a stoned brick, calm, collected and can not be swayed easily. You looked at your texts more from friends about the podcast, and a few about his morning radio interview about the upcoming EP clipping was about to drop. Before too long you found yourself sitting at your laptop, headphones on and hitting play on the podcast, they hosts sounded nice and made you laugh, when daveed came in the questions seemed to turn, many had learned of the split between him and his ex, it wasn’t messy, it was just a natural thing, people shift and move apart, with clipping and acting jobs, daveed was pretty much a Skype boyfriend, you didn’t mind, and neither did his ex, but they had decided, time had run its course. But five years is a long time, and in a seemingly too short period of time, you had become a staple in daveeds twitter and instagram, a few snap story take overs had many wondering where you popped up from, sighing you listened to them talk.
‘So mister daveed diggs, I hear someone new has captured that heart of yours’ you smiled hearing daveeds laugh knowing the flushed smile on his face well,
‘Yeah, she’s…she’s amazing, she makes life very interesting, many clipping songs have come from things her brain has spit out’ you laughed shrugging he wasn’t wrong many times you had no word vomit filter on your brain.
‘Yes, well people have been shouting at us, about the very mixed up relationship, seeing as you stared as Jefferson in Hamilton, the barrier breaking musical, people seem to see this as you sort of slamming a giant sort of white stamp on things’ you sat up turning the volume up slightly
‘I don’t know about that, i wouldn’t say our relationship is mixed up per say’ one of the hosts laughed
‘People said, that this was you conforming to the standard set back in the day, and many listeners say you should find a strong woman of color to keep breaking the world’s barriers, in music and stage and life’ you hit pause sighing. It wasn’t uncommon for people to say stuff like that, many woman at restaurants or bars, seeming to think you could never be daveeds actual girlfriend, and even when he says you are, they never fail to give their number with a comment of ‘when you see the light call me’ you never let it get to you, ever, but some days you felt bad…bad that you weren’t the one people wanted daveed with, sighing you shut your laptop standing. It was quiet in the apartment just you and soccer, who currently was asleep on the couch feet up ears down
‘Well don’t you look comfy’ the only response was a snort from the dog, sighing you looked around the apartment, deciding to just go lay down for a while you tugged your Oakland hoodie off, pulling a loose tank top out, rolling your eyes as it also read in large print ‘oakland’ you tugged off your leggings feeling free again bending over to grab the clothes from the floor, yelping as arms circled your waist lips pressing against your shoulder as you stood still caged by very strong arms
‘Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you,’ you laughed shrugging against his chest looking up towards him smiling as he leaned down pressing his lips to yours, he pulled back as you sighed leaning back against his chest feeling safe as he held you tightly
‘Mm can we like never leave this spot’ he laughed his chest vibrating against your back
‘I wish but the bed like five feet in front of us looks hella more comfy than standing’ you nodded as he uncaged you pulling his hoodie off, soon he was in sweats and leaning against the headboard arms open for you, smiling you climbed onto the bed, straddling him, his hands coming to rest just below your butt, looking up at you
‘So how was your day? Many exciting legal tour things?’ He laughed leaning his head against your stomach
‘Oh yeah so exciting as I signed so many documents my hand was going to fall off’ you laughed your hands moving through his curly mane of hair, scratching your nails against his scalp, he groaned happily as you did so
‘God I love it when you do that’ you smiled
‘Taught from my mom, any day can be made better by head scratches’ he smiled his hands moving up and down the back of your thighs soothingly as you hummed and played with his hair
‘So…I listened to some of that podcast you did’ he sighed pulling his head up to look at you eyes tired, you ran your thumbs under his eyes sighing
‘Yeah? I tried to get your friends to make sure you didn’t’ you sighed
‘I know, I got curious, i’m not like upset, I was, but I mean i’m used to those kinds of comments,’ he looked up at you eyes looking into yours, one hand coming up to hold your cheek
‘You shouldn’t have to be, people should just not worry who I fall in love with, who I write songs about,’ slowly he rose finally ending with you being flipped under him his hand moving down your neck and down your shoulder stopping to intertwine your fingers
‘Who I make scream till their voice is gone,’ his lips brushed against yours, causing your eyes to flutter shut, your breathing picking up slightly
‘Who I fuck till they can’t think or see straight let alone walk straight the next day,’ you whimpered slightly as his teeth grazed your pulse point his lips pressing against it feeling your pulse raise
‘Whose sounds make me want never leave this bed’ you opened your eyes as daveeds hands moved to your waist slipping under his tank top, slowly moving up until the shirt pooled right above your breasts, daveed ran a finger down over your bra, smirking
‘The one who if they went through my photo roll, would see the beauty of how very photo talented my girlfriend is, and how much she can make me go insane on tour’ you smirked as he leaned close before his lips took yours causing your back to arch into his chest, eyes closing as his hands moved to unhook your bra tossing it somewhere, you would find it later, his hand moved cupping your breast, his finger lightly circling your nipple, causing a small gasp to come out of your throat, he took his chance his tongue pushing in and dancing with yours, pulling back you whimpered looking up at him as he kissed his way down your body, kissing your breasts, before slowly kissing the beauty marks your clothes hid, his tongue ran down past your belly button stopping at the waistband of your panties, you watched him, breathing heavy as he hooked his thumbs into the band slowly pulling them down, his lips following down your right leg, tossing the panties for you to find later, he kissed up your left leg, his hand hooking under your thigh bringing it up to hang over his shoulder as he kissed your skin, biting softly, causing soft whimpers as he got closer to your core, his eyes held yours as he lowered his mouth down his tongue flicking against your clit as you inhaled sharply back arching hands flying to his curly hair tugging as he sucked it into his mouth his tongue circling it as you moaned, whimpering his fingers moved down before you felt him slowly push two into your entrance, pumping them slowly as he worked his tongue over you. You cried out as he brought the fire in your stomach closer to exploding, your fingers tugged his hair as he worked,
‘Da-fuck…daveed…i’m close please…please can…can I cum…please’ daveeds eyes found yours his eyebrow arching up his way to say no when his mouth was busy
‘Please oh god….daddy…daddy please I need to cum…please…please’ your legs shook as you held yourself back, he pulled back moving up his thumb moving to replace his tongue, eyes watching you like a lion hunting prey, lips moving down hot against your ear
‘Cum for daddy, let daddy hear how he makes you feel, cum all over daddy’s fingers’ you didn’t need any other words before you screamed out back arching as he finger fucked you through your orgasm, his lips kissing your neck, sucking a love bite into your skin, slowly he pulled his fingers out causing you to twitch, he pulled back looking at his fingers before sticking them in his mouth eyes shutting as he did
‘God, you taste like everything I have ever wanted’ you watched him as he slid off the bed tugging his sweats off, grabbing something from the top dresser, the foil wrapper falling as he turned crawling back up on the bed
‘Baby girl, daddy wants you to ride him, show him your pretty face when you fuck his cock’ you moaned nodding as you sat up slowly, he laid down as you moved to straddle him his hands coming to your waist before fully yanking your tank top off tossing it as you aligned yourself with his member, whimpering as you slid down on it, his hands tightened on your hips as he groaned,
‘Fuck, you feel so good around daddy’s cock’ you moaned as he helped you move your hips your, hands going to his chest to help steady you, his eyes never leaving your face as he moaned thrusting up to meet your hips, his head falling back
‘Fuck, daddy…’ he ran his hands up and down your waist as you moved your hips quickly,
‘Fuck, daddy, please, choke me’ he didn’t need to be told twice as his thrusts slammed into you his hand clamping around your throats as you moaned loudly
‘Fuck daddy’ he slammed up into you faster
‘Cum…right now, cum for me again, fuck let me see your face when daddy makes you cum’ you looked at him a mouth opening as you cried out cumming around his cock, your walls clenching around him, his thrusts became sloppy as he fucked you through your climax before finally groaning as he came, slowly thrusting to a stop, his hand moving from your neck to pull you down against his chest, his hand running down your back breathing heavy
‘Fuck I love you, no matter what people say,’ you smiled nodding weakly
‘I love you too, so much’ let’s just say you walked a little funny the next day and the love bite on your neck was not one daveed let you cover in his instagram posts.

What do you think changed for Bill and Hillary after 1998 that helped him stop the philandering cycle? Had they done therapy before?

Well, the good news is, we can let them speak for themselves on this topic. I’m making a conscious choice to not use sources that don’t provide direct quotes from both of them, and sticking with three in particular: Living History, My Life, and Hillary’s Talk Magazine interview from 1999. There’s also a quick excerpt from May 2017′s New York Magazine interview. I wanted to add some bits from the Blair Papers in as well, but the length is already a bit out of control.

If you’re reading this and think the Clintons are lying about how they frame their marriage when discussing it publicly, then this post probably won’t do much for you.

Had they done therapy before?

I’ll start here, as it’s a pretty cut-and-dry one. Based on Hillary’s own words in the New York Magazine article from May 2017, the marital counselling after Lewinsky was the first and only time they did any kind of therapy together. Bill may have had therapy/counseling as an individual in the past, but the 90′s was the only time HRC went through any kind of counseling herself, and the only time they did as a couple:

Remembering Election Night and the inauguration, I can’t help but think that Clinton’s ability to set aside her own feelings might be useful but perhaps not entirely healthy. I ask her if she’s ever been in therapy, and she shakes her head. “Unh-uh. No. I have not.” When I express surprise, she allows, “Well, we had some marital counseling in the late ’90s, around our very difficult time, but that’s all.”

She shrugs. “That’s not how I roll. I’m all for it for anybody who’s at all interested in it. It’s just not how I deal with stuff.” [New York Magazine]

What do you think changed for Bill and Hillary after 1998 that helped him stop the philandering cycle?

A few things to start:

I need to preface that I do, indeed, believe that Bill stopped cheating after 1998. My posts here (regarding where I generally stand on interpreting the nature of their marriage) and here (regarding rumors about him cheating in the 2000s onward) cover that - so my answer will align with your phrasing of the question in that the cycle did indeed stop. Again, if you’re reading this and don’t believe that he stopped cheating, much of this won’t mean a lot to you.

So, to your question, what changed - and why did the cycle stop, this time?

(1) They attended marital counseling for the first time. It was extensive - for a full year, and weekly. Per both of them, they began discussing things about themselves, their marriage, their histories, etc. that they had never really dug into before. As HRC says in 2017, “That’s not how I roll.” She’s never been a soul-barer, and from what I outline below, WJC had never really faced the root of his own issues, either. So what changed this time was a willingness to start uncovering the core of the issues they faced in the 80s in their marriage, really surfacing them, and talking through them together with openness and honesty.

Hillary and I also began a serious counseling program, one day a week for about a year. For the first time in my life, I actually talked openly about feelings, experiences, and opinions about life, love, and the nature of relationships. I didn’t like everything I learned about myself or my past, and it pained me to face the fact that my childhood and the life I’d led since growing up had made some things difficult for me that seemed to come more naturally to other people. (Bill Clinton, My Life)

We continued with our regular counseling sessions, which forced us to ask and answer hard questions that years of non-stop campaigning had allowed us to postpone. By now, I wanted to save our marriage, if we could. (Hillary Clinton, Living History)

The simple act of talking - openly communicating - comes up a lot in their writing about the recovery of their marriage, in combination with an admission that it’s not something they had really done before that point in terms of discussing their own personal issues in great depth. If you’ve been married (or in a substantially long-term relationship), you’ll understand exactly how much this matters, and exactly how damaging it was that this hadn’t really happened up until the 90′s. That’s not to say they didn’t talk about their marital issues at all - it’s that they hadn’t taken time to be (1) deeply introspective enough to uncover everything (see: WJC’s note that some of what was discussed was for the first time), and (2) whatever issues they had uncovered in the past had never really been resolved (see HRC’s point above re: postponing answering the hard questions).

So, they pushed aside deep self-reflection up until they really faced it head-on together in the 90′s. That has so much to do with why the 90′s saw the end of the cycle. They asked and answered the hard questions, at last.

(2) Beyond just marital counseling sessions, they kept on communicating, and they got to know each other again as spouses, and as two people who loved each other, beyond just the fulfilling work they did together through public service. You’ll hear this common thread from a lot of folks who go through marital counselling - this idea of “getting to know each other again”.

In the long counseling sessions and our conversations about them afterward, Hillary and I also got to know each other again, beyond the work and ideas we shared and the child we adored. I had always loved her very much, but not always very well. I was grateful that she was brave enough to participate in the counseling. We were still each other’s best friend, and I hoped we could save our marriage. Meanwhile, I was still sleeping on a couch, this one in the small living room that adjoined our bedroom. I slept on that old couch for two months or more. I got a lot of reading, thinking, and work done, and the couch was pretty comfortable, but I hoped I wouldn’t be on it forever. (Bill Clinton, My Life)

I think I survived because of a combination of soul-searching and relying on friends, the support of people who give advice, religious faith, long and hard discussions. (Hillary Clinton, Talk Magazine 1999)

“Bill has been subjected to so much abuse … he doesn’t make any excuses for what he did. But the reaction was unprecedented and harmful to the country … People are mean. I think it’s a real disservice, the way we sort of strip away everybody’s sense of dignity, of privacy. People need support, not disdain. … And you know, we did have a very good stretch,” she adds later, referring to the period after Gennifer Flowers. “Years and years of nothing.” And how they repaired their connection this time? “We talk. We talk in the solarium, in the bedroom, in the kitchen – it’s just a constant conversation…” she gives a tired smile. “We like to lie in bed and watch old movies.” (Hillary Clinton, Talk Magazine 1999)

(3) Bill further received personal therapy/counseling independently, much of it from religious leaders, to discover and deal with his own issues. This may be ongoing, still.

…I would pursue counseling from pastors and others to find, with God’s help, “a willingness to give the very forgiveness I seek, a renunciation of the pride and the anger which cloud judgment, lead people to excuse and compare and to blame and complain.” We would pray, read scripture, and discuss some things I had never really talked about before. The Reverend Bill Hybels from Chicago also continued to come to the White House regularly, to ask searching questions designed to check my “spiritual health.” Even though they were often tough on me, the pastors took me past the politics into soul-searching and the power of God’s love. (Bill Clinton, My Life)

I also came to understand that when I was exhausted, angry, or feeling isolated and alone, I was more vulnerable to making selfish and self-destructive personal mistakes about which I would later be ashamed. The current controversy was the latest casualty of my lifelong effort to lead parallel lives, to wall off my anger and grief and get on with my outer life, which I loved and lived well. During the government shutdowns I was engaged in two titanic struggles: a public one with Congress over the future of our country, and a private one to hold the old demons at bay. I had won the public fight and lost the private one. (Bill Clinton, My Life)

Some of this included uncovering and opening up about abuse he suffered as a child, and the impact that had on his adult life.

“Yes, he has weaknesses. Yes, he needs to be more responsible, more disciplined, but it is remarkable given his background that he turned out to be the kind of person he is, capable of such leadership …” I tell Hillary I read in his mother’s autobiography, in which she wrote about the atmosphere of alcohol, violence, and chaos that forced her son to be the man of the house while he was still a child. Hillary leans over and says softly, “That’s only the half of it. He was so young, barely four, when he was scarred by abuse that he can’t even take it out and look at it.” (Hillary Clinton, Talk Magazine 1999)

[Note: Some of the language in the Talk Magazine article on the topic of childhood abuse were walked back/softened afterwards, but I believe they are true. Topic for a different post.]

Now, I want to continue to answer the unasked question that I think is incredibly important - why did she bother at all? Why did she fight for him? Why even instigate the counseling in the first place, if Lewinsky was just part of the cycle? In order for any of this to be effective, and for the cycle to end, there had to be a drive and a willingness.

(1) They had a lot of shit to fight for (and against), and they were willing to work through whatever issues they uncovered to stay together and make sure that could continue to do so. Bill needed to address his own infidelity and weaknesses, but the “bigger picture” for both of them never went away. And that seems to have so much to do with why they (she, in particular) kept on fighting to make it work - she believed in what they were fighting for, and she believed him to be good and worthy. His infidelity did not overshadow that for her.

Bill and I had agreed to participate in regular marital counseling to determine whether or not we were going to salvage our marriage. On one level, I was emotionally shell-shocked and trying to deal with the raw wound I had suffered. On another level, I believed Bill was a good person and a great President. I viewed the independent counsel’s assault on the Presidency as an ever escalating political war, and I was on Bill’s side. (Hillary Clinton, Living History)

“Now she was arguing the other side, explaining to Democrats in Congress with legalistic dispassion why her husband’s actions, while deplorable, were not impeachable. ‘She was very effective and certainly won him the support of the Democratic caucus,’ says Congresswoman Nita Lowey. (Talk Magazine 1999)

She turns to me now with startling intensity. “I don’t believe in denying things. I believe in working through it. Is he ashamed? Yes. Is he sorry? Yes. But does this negate everything he has done as a husband, a father, a president? … And what is so amazing is that Bill has not been defeated by this. There has been enormous pain, enormous anger, but I have been with him half my life and he is a very, very good man. We just have a deep connection that transcends whatever happens.(Hillary Clinton, Talk Magazine 1999)

(2) They have an absolute, deep, endless, abiding love.

And, well, the most important part of all, right?

And, most important, Hillary stood with me and loved me through it all. From the time we first met, I had loved her laugh. In the midst of all the absurdity, we were laughing again, brought back together by our weekly counseling and our shared determination to fight off the right-wing coup. I almost wound up being grateful to my tormentors: they were probably the only people who could have made me look good to Hillary again. I even got off the couch. (Bill Clinton, My Life)

“You know people have a lot of daily problems in relationships. Everybody has some dysfunction in their families. They have to deal with it. You don’t just walk away if you love someone - you help the person.” (Hillary Clinton, Talk Magazine 1999)

And, my favorite excerpt of all, from that 1999 Talk Magazine article.

Does she believe, I wonder, that you don’t leave someone you love under any circumstances? “You have to know the real quality of the person,” she says thoughtfully. “You have to be alert to it, vigilant in helping. I thought this was resolved 10 years ago. I thought he had conquered it, but he didn’t go deep enough or work hard enough.”

“What’s the part of the Bible that deals with this?” she had asked at one point.

“Corinthians?” I suggested.

“Love endures all things? No, I love that, but I was thinking of when Peter betrayed Jesus three times and Jesus knew it, but loved him anyway. Life is not a linear progression. It has many paths and challenges. And we need to help one another.”

“And it is love, isn’t it?”

“Yes, it is,” she said. “We have love.”

It’s Okay to be a Disney Princess

I think Auli’i Cravalho seems like a great person based on what we’ve seen of her since she was announced as Moana’s voice actress. So, I’m not trying to antagonize her with this post. But I just want to say, “Why can’t Moana be both?” Disney Princesses have shown plenty of heroism in the different films that feature them. A heroine can be a Disney Princess and a Disney Princess can be a heroine.

Snow White escaped the Queen after the huntsman spared her and the princess’ kindness helped her enlist the help of woodland creatures who helped her find the cottage of the dwarves. When she got there, she convinced them to let her stay by earning her keep. And, even though she was cooking and cleaning for them, she still had those men wrapped around her finger. When she first met them and said “How do you do?” and they didn’t respond, she enunciated, “I said, how do you do?” Yeah, Snow White could be a little sassy. And she was assertive with the dwarves and only let them eat dinner after they all cleaned up and even got Grumpy to do it. So, yes, she fell for the witch’s trick (but she was only 14 and very sheltered in the castle as a scullery maid) and then fell asleep for the last part of the film, so the dwarves and animals had to confront the queen and she could only be woken up the kiss of the prince she liked. But people always seem to forget some of the cool stuff that she did.

Cinderella spent most of her childhood abused by her stepmother and stepsisters. She retained her kindness and never stooped to the mean and petty levels of her family. But that does not mean she just gleefully put up with their crap. She had a little bit sass and had a few sarcastic quips about her stepfamily and their cat Lucifer under her belt. Take this quote, for instance,

“Oh, that clock! Old killjoy. I hear you. Come on, get up, you say, Time to start another day. Even he orders me around. Well, there’s one thing. They can’t order me to stop dreaming.”

Also, the primary lesson Cinderella teaches us is to never give up on our dreams. That as long we believe in them, they can come true. That is a beautiful moral that not just little girls, but everyone can take something away from.

And I’ve explained in another post how there is more to Cinderella than just marrying the prince.

Aurora may have spent most of her film asleep, but she was a little sassy, like with her fairy guardians (she was raised by three women, that’s pretty cool, right?) And she at least had some knowledge about stranger danger when first meeting the prince. It didn’t take long for him to charm her, but she did turn away and dismiss him at first. Also, she left Phillip when she needed to and set the terms for their next meeting. I think she deserves a little credit.

And let’s not forget Princess Eilonwy. She maneuvered through the Horned King’s castle and allowed Taran to team up with her so that they could escape. Also, when Taran made a sexist comment about girls, “what does a girl know about swords, anyway”, oh, boy Eilonwy set him straight.

I also talked about Ariel in that other post which I actually do recommend. But I’ll add a few points here, too. She went all kinds of adventures, including exploring sunken ships and escaping sharks. Many of these exploits of hers are shown in her prequel movie and in the 90′s TV show (and this was long before she met Eric, proving that he as her love interest, does not exclude her from being a capable heroine). Also, she is the one who saved Eric from drowning. And though she made a not entirely wise decision to run away from home and be on land, you at least have to give Ariel props for going after what she wanted, which is something the film makers made a full intent on making apparent (there was an interview from when the movie came out where this was mentioned, but I’m not quite sure where, but I’m sure the peeps that read this could find it if you’re interested :D).

Belle enjoys reading, even though that’s not what women usually did in her time period. She rejects the sexist, egotistical Gaston when he tries to flirt with her, insults her father (then later tries to incarcerate him if she doesn’t marry him) and tries to make her his “little wife”. She dreams of bigger and better things. She sacrifices herself for the sake of her father and later goes out to save him when he becomes ill. Belle does not take the Beast’s crap and even tries to leave when he explodes on her. When she gets attacked by wolves, she does defend herself and when the Beast saves her, she helps him back to the castle after he falls unconscious. She treats his wounds and sets him straight about his anger issues. Her patience and open-minded personality helps Beast slowly regain his humanity. And her love for him helps break the curse over him, his servants and the castle.

Jasmine also took charge. She refused to be forced into an arranged marriage and preferred to marry who she wanted and when she wanted. She did not like being stuck in the castle, and though, like Ariel, she wasn’t that wise in running away, she still took it upon herself to get somewhere. She did not put up with the men in the story deciding her future and called Aladdin out on his lies. Also, she has a pet tiger! That’s pretty freaking cool. Sure, she had to dress up for Jafar and kissed him as a distraction. But she used her beauty against the piggish (actually he’s rather horse-like) Jafar. And Jasmine has also displayed her resolve in the extended Aladdin media, too.

Pocahontas was just as adventurous as the last Disney princesses. She wanted more than to marry the stoic Kocoum. And, though wary, she managed to befriend John Smith and help open his mind to the beauty of the world and accepting people who aren’t the same as you. Colors of the Wind is a perfect summary of what Pocahontas teaches. Her wise, humanitarian ways stopped a conflict between her people and the Europeans. And although she cared very much about John, Pocahontas chose to stay and look after her family, friends and other peers.

Mulan knew that her father was too weak from a previous war injury to be drafted, so she took his place and became a soldier in the Chinese army. Yes, she had to pretend to be a man, but that’s just how it was in her time. Mulan trained and became a skilled fighter. With some help from her friends, she saved her country from invading Huns. ‘Nuff said.

Tiana worked very hard for what she dreamed of. She did not put up with Naveen’s selfish, narcissistic ways and taught him of what it meant to strive for something truly important in life (while he showed her that there is more to life than work, work, work). Though she could get down on herself, Tiana tried her hardest to obtain her dreams and in the end, refused to let people stop her (like those realtor guys). She become the owner of her own restaurant, just like she always wanted, and helped her late father’s dream become realized as well.

Rapunzel was trapped in a tower for her entire childhood. The reason why she didn’t try to escape is because Gothel pretended to be her mother and insisted that staying in there was for her own good. And being as sheltered as she was, Rapunzel believed her. But when she got her chance, Rapunzel made the decision to leave. She knocked Flynn out and tied him up and didn’t let him go until he agreed to help her see the floating lights like she always wanted to. On their journey, she faced pub thugs and a very intense horse and helped them reveal their better sides. She also did this with Flynn, bringing out Eugene Fitzherbert. Rapunzel used her extremely long hair as a valuable asset on her adventure with Eugene. She stood up to Gothel and was willing to sacrifice her freedom so that he would not have to die. And a tear, her care for him and sorrow over his death combined, brought Eugene back. And it appears that Rapunzel will go on many more adventures in Tangled: Before Ever After in 2017!

Merida loves archery, sword-wielding and horseback riding. She also is very good at those things. She’s very active and goes out to explore, even climbing a tall rock structure at the beginning of the film. Merida is a very capable Disney princess. She also, like Jasmine, does not like her future being chosen for, especially when it comes to marriage. She does make unwise decisions, like trying to give her mother a spell that will make her see things Merida’s way. And it takes her a while to take responsibility for her actions. But she learns to understand her mother better (and so does her mother with her), the two bond, and she does her best to break the curse she set and make everything right again. She learns to be diplomatic and maturely express her thoughts to the men at her castle. She defends her mother and bests her father in a sword match. All the while, Merida still retains her adventurous spirit.

Sofia is a wonderful role model for young girls and older audiences, as well. She helps those in need, even those who have done her wrong (though she doesn’t always forgive people that easily, like when Amber took her amulet and brought a curse on their home- though that was an accident, and Amber, too, is a testament to a character learning to be more responsible and open-minded). She changes the status quo and becomes the first female member of her school’s flying derby team. Sofia makes mistakes, but she learns from them. She goes on many adventures where she and her friends learn important lessons. She’s saved her family and friends numerous times, as well. Also, the film princesses appear every now and again to help bring the moral of the episode home.

Anna is just as adventurous as many of the others I’ve mentioned. And she certainly has good reason, spending her entire childhood behind castle walls, similar to Rapunzel in the tower. She is very brave, going after her sister in harsh winter weather, despite their estranged status. She enlists the help of Kristoff and Sven, treks up the mountain and also confronts the giant snow creature, Marshmallow. And she gave her life to save Elsa. Sure, she took things too far, too fast with Hans, but she was desperate for affection after all those years alone and like some of the other princesses, grew up sheltered from the world. Anna’s parents were dead and she believed that the only other family she had abandoned her. She learned her lesson with Hans, though. And, well, he got what he deserved.

Elsa isn’t a princess, she becomes a queen early on in her film, but Pocahontas and Mulan aren’t technical princesses, either (but they are in the official lineup). So, yeah, I’m going to include her, too. I can’t just have Anna and not Elsa. Elsa dealt with many problems after growing up thinking that her powers were a curse. But after she had some time to herself, she realized that her abilities were actually capable of wonderful feats. She bested Weselton’s goons and almost killed them before Hans intervened. And with Anna’s help, she overcame her fears and brought happiness to her kingdom. And she has been a great ruler ever since.

Once she was freed, she defeated the villain and now is becoming a capable monarch while also going on several daring adventures with her family and friends.

So, there is nothing wrong with considering Moana as a Disney princess (I also think it makes sense because she is a chief’s daughter like Pocahontas). She will display brave, empowering traits just like the other royalty before her. A princess can be a heroine just as much as a heroine can be princess. Those two things do not have to or need to be mutually exclusive. Disney has been proving that for decades and with the arrival of Moana this fall, I think we can see that it will continue on for many more years to come.

some takeaways

i know a lot of us (especially finn fans, myself included) are feeling very disappointed and angry right now, but i just wanted to share some thoughts on the vanity fair stuff

  • I don’t trust what Vanity Fair says. Seriously, if it’s not from Rian or one of the actor’s direct quotes, i am very skeptical about it. So I think their summaries of what Rian said have the potential to be misguided at best, and potentially just flat out wrong. Literally just yesterday they published the sentence “Leia and Han’s romance didn’t last.” Which is not canon. At all. So they’ve shown that they make mistakes and misinterpretations of things, and also it’s their prerogative as a pop culture publication to word things as click-baity and dramatic as possible in order to generate interest. (Also even though I love “Reylo found dead in Miami,” the only actual quote about the romance thing from Rian himself is that there’s  “no one-to-one equivalent of the Han-to-Leia, burning, unrequited love. In our story, that’s not a centerpiece.” The only person who brings up Reylo or Finnpoe is the author of the article, who is simply editorializing and likely just mentioning what they think are popular ships in order to get big fan reactions to the story. I’ve always believed Reylo is impossible and was never going to happen, but i don’t think this point makes Finnrey or Finnpoe any less likely at all.
  • I think there’s a plan. While I was immediately terrified yesterday with Rian’s comments, and i’m still very worried, I honestly just cannot believe that there was not a full plan for this trilogy going into it. It just doesn’t make sense or sound likely whatsoever. Even the trilogies, for all their faults, were very planned out by George Lucas from the start. I think anything Rian said in relation to them just handing it off to him without a real plan of where the story was going is mostly hyperbolic either for misdirection, comedic effect, or just to toy with fans.
  • Finn can still be force-sensitive. Nowhere in the article does it say that Finn definitively is not force-sensitive. Even in the article they phrase is as “A revelation about Finn’s potential Force sensitivity” To me, this honestly sounds optimistic. Even if it doesn’t happen yet in TLJ, I still think there’s a very good chance he’ll get to use the force and a lightsaber again in Episode IX.
  • I’m tentatively optimistic about Finn. Maybe this doesn’t mean anything at all and I’m just looking for something to be hopeful about, but to me, it actually feels like a good thing that Finn was mentioned as much as he was, even if the things revealed were disappointing. His name and things regarding his character and plot are mentioned in the tagline and first paragraph of the article. More than other characters, he seems to be one that they talked about a lot in article and must have discussed in depth in their interview with Rian. Like, there doesn’t seem to be too much about anything to do with Rey or Poe’s arcs in TLJ in the article, but Finn is mentioned a number of times. To me, at least, this seems to show that both Rian and Vanity Fair are very aware of the popularity of Finn and value his importance to the plot, and that things like him being force-sensitive are theories that are important to a lot of fans. Even though I don’t like a lot of the news in the article, i would be MUCH more worried and very angry if it didn’t mention him at all. I think at least seeing questions about him being mentioned and addressed means that whatever they have planned for him in TLJ, it’s a big and fulfilling role.

Anyway, feel free to disagree with me on any of this because i know a lot of us are upset right now, but these were just some thoughts i came to after reading the article a few times.

anonymous asked:

Can you discuss what made you positive about Jon and Sansa? I saw the trailer and I honestly didn't see anything and even though I ship them, I have the lowest possible expectations for them because of the show they're in.

The trailer per se didn’t show anything “consistent” to convince me something will happen between them, but I’m one who looks at the hints, tiny details which, I admit, might end up being bullshit or just pure coincidence, but as of now I’d like to think they’re showing them on purpose without being too  obvious. The whole trailer featured lots of Stark footage, it starts with Sansa and ends with Jon, both of them have voiceovers which are the only ones along with LF’s. Now we have Jon/Sansa/LF, anyone who ever read/listened to the cast and producers interviews, would think it’s a way to throw at us the first signs of the starkbowl: Jon vs Sansa, Team Snow vs Team Sansa, Sansa fighting against Jon to get the merits she deserves, Littlecreeper fueling in Sansa the desire to become Queen and betray her brother.

The littlefucker’s voiceover during Sansa’s footage is “don’t fight in the north or the south; fight every battle everywhere. Always in your mind”, it’s cryptic, but I assume it’s one of the usual LF’s teaching to Sansa, a teaching that clearly represents Petyr’s way to operate, certainly not the Stark way. Considering we don’t have the context to analyze this line at its fullest, I’m just going to deduce he’s attempting once again to play with Sansa, just like in the first trailer where he says “your father and brothers are gone, yet here you stand. Last best hope against the coming storm”. Petyr’s words in both trailers are a constant reminder to Sansa that she’s alone in all of this, or better, he tries to manipulate her into thinking that she’s fighting alone. His words do not contemplate any family member by her side, everybody is gone (which I guess it’s foreshadowing Arya returning to Winterfell at some point). Now going into more specifics, the voiceover plays along with Sansa in the Godswood, walking away, she’s tearing up a little bit, she seems shaken, a tad distraught as if something huge just happened and she’s walking away from this. Everyone noticed there’s someone in the back, the three options are: Littlecreeper, Jon or Bran.

Now, to me it looks like the man behind her is standing, so I’d rule out Bran;  it could be the littlecreeper, but I can’t fathom why they’d be discussing AGAIN in the Godswood, when we got a similar scene in 6x10.  Unless, obviously, it’s Sansa that summoned him to privately talk to him and that’s when she starts playing with him, but I don’t see the reason why and how it’d play out; Jon seems like the “reasonable” option for me:

It certainly looks like him. LF should be a bit thinner and less slouchy.
As I wrote before, Sansa appears to be unsettled, shaken. Her red-rimmed eyes reveal she cried or that she’s on the verge to cry, holding back her tears. Why would she cry? WHO would she cry for? Petyr? i don’t think so. Of all people in Winterfell right now, only Jon would be able to have this kind of effect on her.
If it’s Jon, it means they have a scene together, alone in the Godswoods sharing an important moment that will leave Sansa in turmoil. This is certainly my imagination working, but why would two siblings, a brother and a sister share a private moment in a place that only add a romantic atmosphere? Why are they even there?
Besides, who else shared a scene in the Godswood in S1? Cat and Ned. Who knows how the conversation will go between Sansa and Jon, still the parallels keep growing and I refuse to believe it is just coincidence. We already have Jon smashing LF against the wall just like Ned did, Sansa becoming more and more like her mother as the Blackfish pointed out and do we want to leave out Jon looking more like Ned episode after episode? it just cannot be coincidence.
Furthermore, as Sansa walks away she slightly turns her head, as if she wants to look back, but she doesn’t allow herself to do so because it’d hurt too much.  My bet is that something happened. What happened? I have no clue, but it must be something…eventful and important which involves only Jon and Sansa.

So we have LF’s line and we have this Sansa in the footage. Why put this specific quote as she walks away from Jon? the Starkbowl is out of discussion, it’s a storyline both actors and producers have thrown down our throats since the end of S6, which makes it even less believable to be an actual storyline in S7. “Always in your mind”, is this some foreshadowing of Sansa’s inner struggle against rising, unwanted feelings? What could be her fight? I’m like 99% sure her main fight this season will be against Petyr himself, but given how this precise line has been put in a scene with Jon, will her inner fight be against her love for Jon??? they could have taken a random P x S scene with that quote, why this one? why as she’s walking away so distressed and almost in tears??

These hints could be all and could be nothing. Most probably many would tell me that I’m a delusional shipper who is seeing things that are just not there, which I can take it, I’m ready to admit I was wrong and I was a fucking delusional Jonsa shipper. No problem for me.

I just got this feeling they are endgame and these trailers are giving me hope. I know certain shippers have decided to keep expectations really low and I get it, I don’t blame you, I’ve done it so many times with many ships of other shows. I just chose that with Jon and Sansa I simply don’t want to keep my expectations low :)

Essays in Existentialism: Arkers

modern clexa au: clarke griffin is the famous singer in the band “The Arkers” and lexa woods is a top model everybody adores. words gets out that they’re dating and the two have stated on multiple times that they’rejust friends. (spoiler alert: they’re totally not.)

The house was silent, was quiet, was void of all sounds and because of that it was a glorious slice of heaven in the middle of a maddening city. With no effort left, Clarke tossed the mail on the counter to be checked later, dropped her bag in the middle of the floor, opened her empty cabinets only to close it against disinterestedly before trudging down the hall and flopping face first and star-fished straight into her big, fluffy, wondrously perfect bed.

She wasn’t sure what time it was, and for a bit, without at least a little effort, she wasn’t positive which time zone she even inhabited at the moment, but none of that mattered. She had time, she had the day to herself, and she had glorious plans to suffocate in sheets and never move.

Exclusive Interview With Shin Yoshida

Today an interview with Shin Yoshida  (Series Composition of Yugioh Vrains, writer of the Yugioh Arc-V manga, and a whole lot more Yugioh stuff) was released online. The following is a translation of that interview.

Interviewer: Please tell us about Yugioh Vrains.

Yoshida: Vrains will be the best series yet. I really worked extra hard to leave my mark on the series. The fans will say, “Yeah that is the work of Shin Yoshida. I love that guy.”

Interviewer: Are you aware that some fans are worried about the character Aoi Zaizen since it was announced you are in charged of the series direction?

Yoshida: Aoi Zaizen is a minor nobody character. I wanted her to be a man but then Hosoda said we should reveal a female character to hype the fans. The card game people then gave her a strong burn deck because she was too boring. But don’t worry, Aoi Zaizen will only appear in one episode and then will never appear again in the series.

Interviewer: What do you say to the common criticism that “You can’t write female characters”?

Yoshida: I have never had a girlfriend in my life. Because of this my mother disowned me out of shame and disappointment over a decade ago. I have no other female relatives. I have zero interactions with real females in my everyday life. So I just write them like how Japanese media portrays them.

Interviewer: Someone on the internet called you and I quote “gay”. Do you have a comment.

Yoshida: If I was gay my boss would fire me so no I am not gay. In fact, I get women all the time and am constantly around them. Please put that on the record as the truth.

Interviewer: Arc-V just ended, how did you like it?

Yoshida: Excuse me! The Arc-V manga I write is still going and is amazing. Yes the anime is complete garbage because I was not involved enough with it but if people want to see how good Arc-V really is then please read the manga I write and ignore the anime. Vrains will be far better since I am involved. Vrains will have far less female characters.

Interviewer: Wow! Thank you for your time Shin Yoshida. This interview will make history as April 1st will be a day to remember.

Camren EXPOSED

‘Camren is real!’ is the most commented thing under Camila Cabello’s and Lauren Jauregui’s posts on Twitter and Instagram. Tons and tons of video’s are made of Camila glancing at Lauren or vice versa. Video’s containing proofs of moments of the two girls barely interacting are shown as them having feelings for one another, moments of them laughing at one another etc, which btw is common in any friendship. But why has Camren, like Larry, been blown out of proportion, and why does it continue to be the number one thing on a Harmonizer’s mind when watching a video with the girls? Why, after countless times of shutting down the rumours, do Lauren and Camila still get shipped?

Let’s start with one of the first iconic moments - 'the look’. For many harmonizers, this is the beginning of Camren.

Let’s dissect this photo - At first glance, it does look pretty incriminating - they’re seems to be quite a bit of supposed sexual tension as they  look at one another’s lips and eyes. Or it could just be them looking at one another - because that’s what humans who are friends do?

Here’s some other photo’s were Lauren and Camila can’t take their eyes off one another

Now let’s have a look at a well known friendship - Serena and Blair from Gossip Girl -

If we didn’t know who they were, Blair and Serena could look like your typical lesbian couple, could they not? But because we know their life story and the ins and outs of what goes on with them, we barely assume they’re in a relationship. Unlike Camren, we have 0 ideas of what goes on in their personal lives apart from what they show us.

Now let’s look at how Blair and Serena LOOK at one another and compare it to the Camren Look

Look at how both Blair and Serena look at one another - with love and care. Look at their hands, almost touching. Do we ever assume that they’re dating or have a crush on one another? No. We simply take it that they care about one another VERY deeply. Just as Camila and Lauren do.

My next point is the hand touching and holding -

OMG THEY’RE HANDS ARE TOUCHING, THEY MUST BE DATING. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Agreed - they ARE touching/ holding hands- but does this mean that Camren is real? No. It’s just like Serena and Blair, who also continue to look each other + hold hands and touch one another, but in the least sexual way possible.

Let’s continue to look at Blair and Serena who are bff goals -

OMG  don’t they look like they’re dating one another? If I didn’t know that they were best friends I’d certainly think that they were together. Wouldn’t you?

Let’s look at some iconic Camren selfies

Just your average friendly selfies, much like Blair and Serena's

So far - we have put down the staring and hand holding to the fact that they care deeply about one another and were/are really good friends.

Now let’s look at their Twitter interactions -

Yes, Lauren started the whole Camren thing BUT we are all aware of the fact that celebrities rarely if ever have control of their own social media - ESPECIALLY Twitter. So if I’m right, management planned these tweets OR it could simply be a way for them to express their friendship. The latter seems more true.

Oh Dinah - Also played by management to fuel Camren rumours and give 5h more publicity

Let’s not bring up the fact that so many other celebrities ship Camren - why? Because this is a moot point. Just because somebody ships something doesn’t make it exist nor make it come into existence.

But for those of you who are still convinced that Camren is real and that they’re dating, let us take a look at the technicalities behind their relationship. I for one think that Camren was public relations (PR) and their is a lot evidence pointing towards this idea.

Let’s begin with the fact that Camila was JEALOUS of Lauren at one point - the evidence lies in her personal notes which were leaked from her phone; she wrote this a motivational thing for herself

She says and I quote 'you were struggling with a terrible insecurity, made even more terrible by how jealous you were of L , like you were obsessively jealous and hated her.’

Why would Camila be jealous of Lauren? It doesn’t make sense - if they did have feelings for one another then surely Camila wouldn’t feel jealous of Lauren.. Hmm

Look at this message from 2012, soon after 5h were first formed, Camila is chatting shit about all her band mates but is starting to like Lauren which suggests their FRIENDSHIP

How about the fact that Camila dated Austin Mahone and Lauren dated Brad from The Vamps. Surely these weren’t staged?

Well we definitely know that Camila and Austin weren’t staged because of Sinu’s (Camila’s mum) tweets to Hollywood life after they accused Camila and Austin to be dating only for album promotion:

What about Shawn Mendes? Well, Camila and Shawn ALWAYS denied dating rumours, so the majority of their interactions were PR -

This was all for PR to boost I Know What You Did Last Summer (I guess it worked)

(texts from Camila discussing IKWYDLS)

And then the incriminating texts between Micheal from 5SOS and Camila - you can read the full story about that here (this basically proves that Camren is FAKE because of Camila’s heterosexuality which is pretty evident). I know that she could be bisexual or even gay, but her interactions with male counterparts seem to suggest her avid interest in guys rather than girls.

Let’s not forget the many times that Lauren and Camila have denied Camren

And the interviews where they denied Camren -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5nG2SdprkI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMsUG4I8bBY&ebc=ANyPxKqDrS1fDlLtEssH_QQWCB5jxG8qpALmsSuymuymCK6eCMB-snzzsTCovRmxs2BcBtwSbxSa_8vRCIAZ44FMIRjm7v05yw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euPoSC-3CHo

And the biggest PR stunt of it all - The Vamp’s song 'I Found a girl’ which you can listen to here

Now, let’s talk about who writes songs for bands in general - NOT the band members, but songwriters that the bands label and management choose. The actual band members have such little input about what they’re going to sing. Who wrote 'I Found A Girl’? Was it The Vamps? Nope, it was some singer/songwriter called James Blunt.

The truth is - Camren isn’t real. That’s all there is to it. It was all for PR (to push forward sales and views) which worked. Look how dedicated Larry fans are to One Direction. 5h’s label & management obviously wanted something like that so that 5h would get big (which they did)

Not to mention that it’s rumoured that Camila almost forced Lauren to post those initial #Camren selfies - no wonder Lauren always calls fans out for supporting Camren but Camila hardly ever does.

Therefore, Camila also wanted a Larry type thing in 5h - look how she’s obsessed with Harry, almost as if she wants to be him

You can believe what you wanna believe, after all - my evidence for Camren being fake is as good as your evidence for Camren being real. But let’s be realistic - Camren is staged AF. They might have a good friendship, but relationship wise, well, that’s non existent. But you can believe whatever you want to believe.

That’s it for now! If you’d like to see more posts like this - please let me know :) What other topics should I expose or shed light on?

weinfinitepeace  asked:

Am I late??what exactly did akiko and kozuko say about yuzu to get fans so riled up 😰😰

Akiko this: https://speakeasy8.tumblr.com/post/160014817538/010-suzuki-a

which I find to be a lot of blablabla, but Akiko is entitled to her opinion even if I find it quite lame (aka, after reading it, I feel like I just wasted 5 minutes of my time).

I found some of her statements weird or weirdly worded, but let’s break it down.

I think Yuzuru Hanyu, while hailed as *the* Champion and having lost the last two WCs, probably has a lot of pent-up a frustration over the losses. This is because he’s not the kind of guy who only wants to win, he’s the kind of guy who wants to win by a mile.

Subtle difference, but from all Yuzuru’s interview, from his mindset since he was a kid, it’s evident he wants to win by putting out his best and showing that he is the best. Which incidentally means winning by a mile, but that’s the consequence not the cause.

At 4CC back in February, from what I could tell of the expression on his face before his SP, he seemed to believe that there was still a gap between himself and younger competitors like Nathan Chen and Shoma Uno. He’s been able to afford a mistake here and there and still win so far but after that comp, he must’ve felt that that’s no longer the case.

A lot of people seems to read Yuzu quite easily nowadays. In contrast to Akiko’s take, PJ Kwong said in her podcast that Yuzuru’s face before FP was one who screamed “This town is mine, go and find your own playground”.

So, we have two different take, in one case the emphasis is put on Yuzuru feeling cornered by the youngster. In the other we have the emphasis on Yuzuru wanting to affirm himself. Which is the correct one? Who knows? Not me, but a Yuzuru feeling cornered by Nathan and Shoma seems quite a nice bed-time story to tell kids in Chubu,

Personal interpretation aside, Akiko’s take regarding “been able to afford a mistake here and there and still win” is just a case of weird statement. He won in GPF because he did LESS mistake than others. He didn’t win in Skate Canada. He didn’t win in WC16 nor in WC15 (nor SC15, but SC silvers are traditions, after all). To imply that a Yuzuru doing mistakes has routinely won against foot-perfect opponents is… alternative reality?

He had some gap on BV compared to some of his opponents, but as often happens, when he won he usually did because he skated better than the rest of the field on the day.

4CC was the turning point for Yuzuru.

On this we agree, although I fear not for the same reason. 4CC, in my humblest opinion, was the turning point because it finally gave him the confidence in having that layout under control, to the point in which he was able to YOLO the last third of it.

This will, in turn, heighten the resolve of skaters still in their teens like Shoma and Nathan to include even more technical content. Going by age, it would be tougher for Yuzuru to follow the same route. If Shoma and Nathan’s weapon is to arm themselves with even more firepower, Yuzuru will answer their challenge by sharpening his own even more, and raise his own level to heights unknown. With Yuzuru, it’s a matter of how one enhances what they have and how they use it.

I admit I find this is funny. Especially coming from a lady who landed her first triple-triple combination at 25. (Let’s not speak about age difference between Nathan and Shoma nor that Shoma won’t be a teenager any longer coming end of this year. I hope Shoma and Nathan’s weapon is to arm themselves with better technique on what they already do, but I guess to imply the youngsters have a lot to improve would destroy this article narrative?

What’s scary about Shoma and Nathan is that they are not entirely outdone by Yuzuru in terms of PCS. They aren’t exactly slacking in the skating department either.

I found more scary the way judges score them, but let’s no go there, okay? And no, they are not slacking. Let’s just say that from slacking and outstanding there’s a whole set of middleground terms that can be used to describe them. Ah, no, narratives ;)

Which is why Yuzuru has come to perceive them as real threats.

Give him some credit, Akko-chan! Do you really think he opened his eyes this February?

But Yuzuru’s emotions are a sight to behold and it would have been even greater if we could have seen more of them (that day).

I’ve nothing to say anymore to anyone who thinks that Helsinki performance wasn’t an emotional skate for what it gave out to the audience there.

I already expressed my opinion over it in my previous reblog.

As I wrote, Akko-chan is entitled to her opinion. I don’t agree with a lot she said (at least in the way she put it out) and I find it funny the stressing out of Yuzuru’s weak (or supposedly weak) points against younger opponents who seem to be perfection.

Or maybe I shouldn’t say funny, just expected.

I’m expecting a lot more of articles like that in the future, especially coming from Nagoya and its surrounding.

Yes, yes, I know, very bad fashion to put it out this way, but let’s just say I’ve been following Figure Skating for quite a long time to know how Olympic seasons with multiple contenders coming from same country are. Especially if one of the contenders comes from one of holy city of figure skating in his country.

As for Kozuka, I’ve no idea - thankfully - I know there was an article with his quotes, but I managed to avoid it up to now.

anonymous asked:

Wait I'm sorry for being misinformed, but the info about Paul calling Yoko a jap tart is not true? From what i read he sent a letter to john (i think) saying this. So it's not true? (because thank god if it's not true)

it’s okay, anon. let me reiterate:

the full message – if you believe francie, that is – was “you and your jap tart think you’re hot shit” and the full quote reads:

“John obviously loved Paul enough to let him run wild if it would help ease the tension Paul was creating in the studio and at home. Yoko could see it too.

But Paul was treating them like shit too. He even sent them a hate letter once, unsigned, typed. I brought it in with the morning mail. Paul put most of his fan mail in a big basket and let it sit for weeks, but John and Yoko opened every piece. When they go to the anonymous note, they looked puzzled, looking at each other with genuine pain in their eyes.

‘You and your Jap tart think you’re hot shit’, it said. John put it on the mantle, and in the afternoon, Paul hopped in, prancing much the same self-conscious way he did when we met.

‘Oh I just did that for a lark…’ he said in his most sugar-coated accent.

It was embarrassing. The three of us swiveled around, staring at him. You could see the pain in John. Yoko simply rose above it, feeling only sympathy for John. I was sad to see the Lennons go, even though it took the pressure off of Paul.”

putting aside that you can already read the clear bias between the lines, sometimes in other retellings of the story, it’s said to be a postcard and other times it’s a typewritten message left in an envelope. the discrepancies here alone should tell you something.

now, where does the claim come from? it comes from an ex-girlfriend of paul’s from the late 60s, who he has parted not on the best terms with: francie schwartz. francie wrote a book about her relationship with paul where francie claims that while john and yoko stayed at cavendish, they received a note saying “you and your jap tart think you’re hot shit”.

why is it bullshit? i have several points to make:

francie schwartz is one of the most unreliable sources in beatles history. ask any beatles researcher worth their salt on their opinion about francie and her book. what’s more important in this particular case: she relies almost exclusively on sensational claims to make her book body count (1972) more palatable and exciting to a general and broad public instead of actual proof. other such claims include paul having been sent love letters from brian; a claim just as insubstantial and without any actual tangible proof.

first off, to get a more personal picture of francie during the time she wrote and published her book you have to ackowledge her agenda as the scorned ex-lover as is evidenced by the book itself as it displays a great deal of vindictiveness towards paul. read body count and you’ll know what  i mean. it’s absolutely vile in places.

second, the book was published in 1972 – when paul’s critical reputation was possibly at one of its lowest points – and it was published by none other than jann wenner’s rolling stone press, which very obviously chose john’s side in the john versus paul breakup era split and which back in the day had a lot of sway in the music industry. the magazine wasn’t yet the joke it was to become. something else that is interesting and slightly related: jann wenner. paul’s critical acclaim wasn’t at it lowest point because mccartney (the album) was years ahead in its day and the press just didn’t get it, but because wenner directly influenced his reviewers to slam paul for – as wenner saw it – breaking up the beatles. here’s the relevant quote:

“When I became record reviews editor, I made it clear to him after a few months — nobody had done the job before me — that the record review section was an independent republic within the country of Rolling Stone. That meant that nobody else could tell me what to review or what a writer could say. They could argue with me, but ultimately it was my decision. And that worked well. There was one incident where Paul McCartney makes his first solo record and people thought it was wonderful: this rough, homemade one-man-band album. It was accompanied by a press release, a self-interview, about why he no longer needed the Beatles and how little he thought of them … this real obnoxious statement, you know? I assigned it to a friend of mine, Langdon Winner, and Jann saw the piece and said: “We can’t run it this way — he’s just reviewing it as if it’s this nice little record. It’s not just a nice little record, it’s a statement and it’s taking place in a context that we know: it’s one person breaking up the band. This is what needs to be talked about.” I said I didn’t agree and “in any case it’s up to Langdon to say what he wants to say.” Jann said, “We have to talk about this.” So we went to dinner that night and spent three fucking hours arguing about this record review. Finally he convinced me. So I went over to Langdon’s and sat down with him and spent three more hours arguing with him until I convinced him! Now to me this was the essence of great editing, of how you put out a publication that is utterly honest. All that time spent over one 750 word review! And it was worth it.”

there are other instances where wenner displays his clear bias against paul, which was especially rampant in the time where paul was hailed as the talentless and flighty hack who did nothing more than book the studio for the beatles and john as the deeply misunderstood true lyrical and musical genius behind the beatles. a narrative that was formed then and persists to this day.

third, a number of writers – including, disappointingly, doggett and carlin – have recounted the “jap tart” episode from paul to john and yoko as fact, but it’s NOT. it’s the unverified retrospective eyewitness testimony years after it happened of a very much biased, secondhand source. we’ve never seen evidence from anyone else that this event occurred. no picture, no copy, nothing. just like any other event francie “remembers”, if i might add. and since other private notes and copies from letters and even journals exist from other and more deeply involved with the beatles people, it is suspicious.

even during “lennon remembers” – also done with involvement from wenner – john himself admits that his examples of the others treating yoko badly in the studio or elsewhere come off as him being paranoid. if he had indeed a clear and very much damning example, such as this “jap tart” postcard or typewritten message or handwritten note, why didn’t he bring it up? or, more glaringly, yoko herself? when discussing why she and john left cavendish in philip norman’s paul bio, she doesn’t mention this incident at all. why didn’t either of them ever bring up this incident in all the years after it supposedly occurred?

it’s also important to point out that the narrative that paul was an absolute and continuous horror to john and yoko during the let it be era is just that: a narrative. let’s see what yoko has to say:

“After the initial embarrassment, then – um, now Paul is being very nice to me. He’s nice, and a – a very, um, str– on the level, straight sense. Like, um, whenever there’s something happening at Apple, he explains to me, as if I should know, [inaudible] and things like that. And also whenever there’s something like they need a light man or something like that, he asks me if I know of anybody in the art world, and things like that.

And like, um, I can see that he’s just now suddenly changing his attitude, like he’s being – he’s treating me with respect. Not because it’s me – but because I belong to John. I hope that’s what it is, because that would be nice. And I feel like he’s my younger brother or something like that. I’m sure that if he had been a woman or something, he would have been a great threat – because there’s something definitely very strong between John and Paul.

And, um – and probably among those three people of George and Ringo and Paul, Paul is the only one that I can sort of feel the vibration [from]. Like, sort of sense it, you know, that something is among that. ‘Cause Ringo and George, I just can’t communicate. I mean, I’m sure that George and – I’m really sure that they’re both very nice people, but that’s not the point… I think that’s because being, uh, [because of John, Paul, and me] being air signs, like Libra, Gemini, and Aquarius.”

another point is the nature of the source itself: francie didn’t – at least as far as we know – write any of these instances down, be it in her diary, or even in a letter to her mother, with whom she stayed in contact during that time. all of which would have made the claim more credible, as those would have been never intended for public view and subsequent consumption as her book was.

she wrote them in her memoir, something she wanted people to buy, and there has been discussion that wenner encouraged her to promote the “sex and dissension” between paul and her and paul and the beatles in her work, because that’s what would sell and ensure publicity.

lasty, i’ve seen another valid point brought up: linguistics. “hot shit” is something that is more an americanism – francie is american – than something used in the late 60s by someone of liverpool descent.

tl;dr: francie’s claim is unfounded and to this very day has zero (0) proof to it.

i’ll include another good quote about the issue under a read more should you be interested.
