Christmas time every year is a stressful time for everyone, however this year for you there was a little bit of added stress, your mother had decided it was time to meet your boyfriend Sebastian. It was decided that you would spend Christmas eve and day at your parents house with your brothers there as well.

Heading up towards the steps of the house you’d grown up in, you started feeling nervous about what they’d think of him. You gripped onto Sebastian’s hand a little tighter when you got to the door, you looked up at Sebastian who was balancing presents on one arm while bags were held in his hand, his other hand was holding onto yours tightly, he was just as nervous about this as you were, meeting your family was a big deal, he knew you had three older brothers who were all bigger than he was and they could easily pummel him into the ground if he said or did the wrong thing, he didn’t want to disappoint them.

You took a deep breath before raising your hand to knock the door, you knocked as loud as you could knowing that everyone inside would be talking and may not be able to hear you, looking up at Sebastian he was already looking down at you with a small smile on his lips, he leaned forward to kiss you but when he moved the presents almost toppled out of his grip, you let out a small giggle just as someone opened the door, heat and the smell of food hit you like a wall making you look up to see your mother standing in front of you with an apron wrapped around her.

“Oh y/n you made it, come on in darling” she said as she pulled you into a tight hug before pulling you into the house, Sebastian following close behind. When she pulled away from you she looked at Sebastian with a massive smile on her face, “I’m y/m/n y/l/n, y/n’s mother” she said as she held her hand out towards his to shake, he took his hand from yours and gave your mother a small handshake whilst introducing himself “I’m Sebastian Stan, thank you for inviting me to spend the holidays with your family”, she gave him a small smile “ it’s no problem Sebastian, we couldn’t wait to finally meet you y/n hasn’t shut up about you, you can put those under the tree over there” she said pointing at the presents then at the tree that was placed by the window in the living room.

Sebastian placed the presents down carefully trying not to drop or damage any of them, once he was done he came back to your side and placed an arm around your waist pulling you close to him, you looked up at him and leaned up to quickly peck his lips before looking back at your mother who was already looking at you with her hands over her heart “oh my gosh you too are so cute, come on let’s go introduce you to everyone else, they’re all in the dining room waiting.

Sebastian kept his arm around your waist as you followed your mother towards everyone else. Walking into the dining room that was decorated with lots of Christmas decorations, everyone was already sat around the table waiting, your mother snapped her fingers to get everyone’s attention, “everyone this is Sebastian Stan, y/n’s boyfriend” she said gesturing towards him, she was way too excited about this. Your father stood up and walked towards your mother, he wrapped an arm around her waist and held his hand out towards Sebastian as he introduced himself “hello Sebastian im y/f/n” Sebastian shook his hand before saying “ nice to meet you”, you took a deep breath as your brothers stood up and moved towards you, you felt Sebastian stiffen beside you, grabbing his hand you rubbed your thumb over his knuckles feeling him loosen up almost immediately, “Sebastian these are my older brothers, Peter, Derek and Scott” you said as you gestured towards the three big men standing in front of you, looking towards them you noticed they all had their arms crossed over their chests which they had pushed out in an attempt to make themselves look more intimidating “hey you three stop that ! you are not going to be trying to scare him off” you said pointing a finger at them, you watched as they relaxed and each shook Sebastian’s hand before returning to their seats at the table.

You pulled Sebastian towards the two empty seats that were left in between your oldest brother Peter and your father’s seat at the end of the table. The meal went pretty well, everyone chatted happily, Sebastian told your family about his work and how he got into acting, when everyone had finished eating you helped your mother with the washing up in the kitchen, leaving Sebastian to go into the living room with your father and brothers.

“So Sebastian you really like our precious little sister don’t you ?” Peter questioned as they sat down “emm yeah i really do and don’t worry i won’t ever hurt her”, “good because if you do you’ll have all of us to deal with” he said as he gestured towards himself and the other men in the room, Sebastian lowered his head to look at his shoes before he heard Derek the middle brother speak up “you know you’re the first guy y/n has brought home to meet us”, “ really? I know she’s had relationships before, didn’t she bring any of them home ?” he said looking over at Derek a little surprised, “nope she never got that far with them, you must be doing something right if the decided you were worthy of meeting us” Scott the youngest brother said as Sebastian let out a small chuckle “yeah, she must be planning on keeping me around for a long time then.”

Just as they finished talking you and your mother walked into the room and sat down, you sat close beside Sebastian, wrapped an arm around your shoulders pulling you closer, you leaned up and placed a small kiss on his lips before moving to snuggle close into his chest, he placed a small kiss on your hair as you sighed contently, “right which movie are we going to watch ?” your mother said as she moved towards bookshelf that held a big selection of movies, everyone decided on watching home alone.

You let out a small yawn as you felt yourself grow more tired, the heat from the fire made the room alot more cosy, you decided to call it a night and head to bed, you and Sebastian said goodnight to your family before heading upstairs towards your old bedroom, entering the room you shuffled towards the drawers where you kept spare clothes for when you stayed over, you pulled out a loose tank top and pajama shorts for yourself before reaching into a lower drawer and pulling out a pair of your brothers pajama bottoms and a t shirt that you’d stolen to sleep in a while ago, throwing them towards Sebastian you headed into the en-suite bathroom to change, after removing your makeup you made your way back into the room to see Sebastian already under the covers waiting for you, crawling into the bed you lay down facing Sebastian who was on his back but had his head turned and was looking at you with a small smile on his face, you moved forwards and laid your head on his chest, “goodnight baby” you whispered, wrapping his arm around your shoulder he placed a kiss on your forehead, “goodnight princess” he whispered as your eyes fluttered shut.

THIS IS A WIPPPP but I’m actually really excited to finish this up and ink it!! I got a bunch of grey markers a couple days ago too, so maybe I’ll even shade it?? I’m trying to draw more background type stuff, so if anyone has any tips or anything I’d love 2 here them! It’s pretty new to me, I’m used to just letting my drawings float in the void lmao. I have 2 work on my shading 4 sure, it’s kinda wonky here, I’ve never learned art professionally so I’m kinda stumbling around in the dark when it comes to lighting and shadows and what not…. either way still vry pumped to do this The Fuck Up!

Do you know any fics that has Caryl/pregnancy/baby in it and would link them. I need to read some. Pregnant Carol and Baby Daddy Daryl is everything!!!

Ohh I love getting these asks. Putting all my hours of reading Caryl fan fic to good work. Honestly though baby fics are probably my least read type of fan fics. I won’t avoid them but usually I don’t go out of my way to read them either.

  • As Dixons Do by ramblinrose (@spanishrose2002- For whatever reason I never got around to finishing this one (although I’ve just read four chapters again already) but this includes parent Caryl and pregnant Carol. Heavy doses of Merle and Andrea too. Lots of family drama included (on Merle’s side). I liked this one a lot.
  • a curious speck by lilabut - This one gives an inside view to the first 12 months after having their baby (Sophia is in this one too). It’s just the right of angst mixed with some fluff a good dosage of smut all with some cute family time moments.
  • illuminate the heart by lilabut ( @singingfirefliess ) - I’ll admit I haven’t read this one before but knowing the author’s writing skills it’s definitely one to read. This is accidental pregnancy story, so it’ll focus on Carol and Daryl’s relationship throughout her pregnancy. In fact to add to this lilabut does a lot of fics with babies and children. I highly recommend them all, she’s a wonderful writer.
  • Fear and Faith by Noxid Anamchara - This one has some lovely and angsty flashbacks of before the baby was born and some fluffy as fuck moments after.

I’m sorry I can’t recommend more, if in doubt have a look in the baby fic section of Nine Lives!xox

*ART CHALLENGE!!!*

Ok, first off: Sorry for not posting much art lately
(for anyone who’s actually following me or interested).

I’ve been pretty wrapped up in college finals, as well as make up work I need to do for two of my art classes, so… yeah.

Though I still have a lot of work to finish, I recently stumbled upon this old silhouette lineup i had on my computer.

And by old, I mean REALLY OLD! I made this thing like two years ago.

Any who: I made this thing a long time ago in order to practice designing characters from silhouettes, but never really got around to it.

Now that I’ve found this, I was thinking “why not share this with the internet peoples”?

Rather than flesh these silhouettes myself, I want to see what you guys come up with.  (that and I’m to busy/ lazy)

Just pick one or more that catch your eye and flesh them out in your own way.
Or rather, use the silhouettes as a launching pad for your own character creations.

I’m interested to see what you do with my little “challenge” if you even want to call it that, so feel free to send me a message or reply with your results if you do decide to use this.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. You’re awesome. I wish I could give you a cookie.

anonymous asked:

Are there any resources/advice to help me find place names or a title for a story?

((Note: this ended up being a LOT longer than I anticipated!  I put a summary of tips at the end of the first section as a bit of a tl;dr thing. It also became kind of a “what does Bailey, a largely unqualified 19-year-old writer, do?” rant. Sorry for that.))

Places:

This site has a TON of categories for place name generators, and though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend pulling a name exactly from a generator, it could definitely be a good place to get some ideas and inspiration.

For fantasy settings, personally I usually try to establish a sort of “style” or sound of name for each different country/region so that all the locations (and even character names) for each country are somewhat coherent. For example, in one of my stories, one country has places with names like Icereach, Mistmoore, and Caerwood that are either compounded English or made-up English-sounding words, whereas another nation on the other side of the continent that would have had minimal contact with the first country, and therefore a completely different language and culture, has entirely made-up names like Draka-kel and Nanghé.

Obviously this isn’t the only way to go about naming places, and it probably doesn’t help much at all if your setting is all one country with a single language. In that case, there are a lot of different ways to go about it.  I actually just started worldbuilding a new setting recently, and I had my friend who was sitting next to me read out the random letters in her Words with Friends game and used those as starting points to make the main city names.  It sounds kinda ridiculous, but it actually worked pretty well!  You could also pick random Scrabble tiles or something like that.  Or sometimes I just pick a random letter that I want the name to start with and just go over a bunch of random sounds until I start piecing together some stuff that sounds right.

Another idea is drawing up a map of the place you’re making names for and picking names based on the geography of the area– like a crescent-moon-shaped body of water called the Crescent Bay and stuff like that.

If you already have some worldbuilding like mythology/history done, you can use names of the country’s ancient heroes/royalty/etc. or mythological figures as names of landmark locations.  It can really help make a fictional setting seem more real if it feels like the mythology and history actually have had an impact on the development of the country.

Also, if you have any old stories that you wrote when you were younger or just never got around to finishing, you can go back and pluck out some good names. Unless you’ve posted the stories online, no one will ever know that you “recycled” them from past projects!  I actually have a planning notebook with 100+ names from mentioned-one-time side characters and random locations from stuff I wrote in middle and high school, and I use it all the time.  It took a while (and was a bit painful) to scrape through all that old writing, but it can save a ton of time and effort in the long run!

Okay this was kind of a random all-over-the-place info dump, so here’s a slightly easier-to-reference recap of ideas for naming:

  1. Using a random name generator as a starting point
  2. Picking a particular “sound” for the names in a country and making them all sound coherent that way
  3. Starting with random letters from a game like Scrabble or Words with Friends
  4. Basing names of geography
  5. Using existing worldbuilding like mythology for naming places
  6. “Recycling” names from old stories

Titling a Story:

Okay I’m literally a terrible person to ask about this; like 90% of my stories are sitting in my writing folder titled by the name of a main character (damian1.docx, damian_old.docx, damian-original.docx… you get the point), or the genre if it’s something I don’t write much (witches.docx, apocalyptic.docx).

For the few things I do have real titles for, though, I try to pick something short and concise that sums up the theme and/or the mood of the story.  For example, I have one fantasy story called “Origin” that’s about the formation of a country and its monarchy while also following several teenagers/young adults as they grow up and either become heroes or succumb to temptations of power, so in a way it’s both the origin story of these characters who eventually go down in history, and also of the newly formed country.

On the other end of the spectrum, I have a sci-fi project called “Riot Raiders” because the main characters are the crew of a spaceship called The Raider and they tend to cause a lot of chaos.  The actual phrase doesn’t really mean anything, but it’s loud and kind of catchy and sounds fun, and the story is meant to be somewhat light-hearted and comedic, so it suits the mood.

One important thing to keep in mind is genre cliches.  Tolkien and Lewis could get away with names like “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Chronicles of Narnia” because they were some of the early innovators of the fantasy genre and there really weren’t cliches for it at the time they were working.  But if nowadays a story titled something like “The [place/item name] Chronicles,” “The Legend of the [legendary thing],” or “The [insert magical weapon name here]” probably won’t stand out that much.  Does that mean you by all means cannot use these names and be successful? Of course not. I mean, you have Anne Rice’s “Vampire Chronicles” and shows like “Legend of Korra” and “Legend of the Seeker” that are all successful and recognizable. But if you’re a new writer and looking to stand out, using something a bit less ubiquitous could be a good starting place.

Often picking a title once you’re done with a story is the most effective way to go.  While you’re working, you might write a few lines that really stand out and you can pick a good title from.  Think about “name drops” it movies/TV shows– it lets you know that this is an important part in the story, so going through the most important scenes in your story could yield a perfect title.

Okay, rant done.  I hope there’s a couple useful tidbits somewhere in all this rambling!!

I get tons of writing ideas, but whenever I try to get them down my brain moves on and changes parts so I'm never fast enough. Does that happen to you? You're an awesome writer, so got any advice?

Oh yeah. I think maybe a fraction of my ideas actually get written and a fraction of those get written. I have a whole folder dedicated to unfinished things, and savior was one of the first long things I finished without just churning it out before I got distracted. Burn was the longest thing I’ve ever finished! Usually I just get around this by writing when an idea has been stuck in my head for a while and it is just congealing, and then blazing through it in only a few sittings, but I think what helped me get through longer stuff was having a clear sec I wanted to see through, rather than just various scenes, and writing something in the middle or end rather than the beginning. That and wanting really bad to share my ideas and get feedback is what got me through burn! But also it’s ok to jot down whatever comes to mind until something sticks! You’re still developing skills and making yourself put more thought into your ideas, and sooner or later that’ll show!

Hey! hope this doesn't get lost in the comments.. but have you ever had any flop arts? How do you deal with them? (by that i mean pieces u started but never finished) bc i've been having a lot of those :-)

this folder exists for a reason /cOUGH//

in my old asks, I would post WIPs and stuff to show you guys what I am working on but never got around in finishing them :(
Worse part was, someone actually stole my WIP and used it as their own idea.
which is one of the few reasons why I don’t post any more previews -.-

Flop arts come and go.
If you can’t complete them or don’t like them, then just let it be!
Make a new one! It really doesn’t matter :D!
Art is there to be enjoyed and have fun with~
(but don’t make it into a habit that you don’t finish one at all)

INFJ Confession #977

I just finished a program where I was surrounded by the same people for a month and didn’t really connect with any of them. But there was this one guy who I instantly felt at ease around, even though I only ever spoke with him like twice. Every time I got near him I felt happy and good and that’s so rare. But I never made a move, not even just to be friends, I was too scared. Now he’s out of my life. INFJs: take that risk you’re thinking of, ‘cause you might regret not doing it. Trust me.

1nky Gets Emotional About Pokemon. News at 11.

(Strap yourselves in - this is a big one).

On my 8th birthday, I didn’t really get many presents. Mom had set up a large cardboard box in the middle of the room, and when I excitedly opened it, it was just full of paper stuffing.

I remember digging through it for a long time, before coming up empty-handed. Thinking it was a trick, I voiced my displeasure to my Mom, who dug straight to the bottom of the box and handed me its real contents.

In my hot little hands was a Game Boy Colour, the Pikachu edition - and a copy of Pokemon Yellow.
