i just love her work so much

despite the silence

Nothing much is known about National City’s mysterious superhero, except that she never talks. That hasn’t changed in the five years she’s been the people’s guardian, and despite interacting with her often in her line of work, emergency responder Alex Danvers has grown accustomed to their silent communications

Except then the woman saves her life, and speaks to her, and Alex realises that maybe their superhero needs saving herself.

Alex has had her fair share of awful nights. She’s lost count of the amount of times she’s held someone’s life in her hands, trying to reassure them that everything will be okay while simultaneously trying to keep them alive until they reach the hospital. She’s seen horribly broken bones and twisted limbs and enough blood to leave her numb sometimes, but it’s always worth it for the lives she does manage to save.

Waking up with a splitting headache and a bump the size of an egg on the back of her head has to rank among her worst nights yet.

Especially since she has no idea where she is.

This is a Supercarp (Kara/Cat/Lena) fic.

Here’s the final chapter of Part 1 what I have decided to call the Supercarp Promise-verse. Is there a Part 2 in the works? Maybe- I have a title for it at least, so now I just need to figure out the plot… :P

So much thanks to @coop-writes for being my beta on this fic and for giving me all the love and attention. <3

Excerpt:

There was something poking her in the ribs.

Lena tried to tune out the annoyance, but it came again and with a small huff she opened her eyes. The glare she had been planning on shooting her wife dropped away as her gaze fell across Kara, still asleep with her head tucked against Cat’s chest, the sheets that had been kicked down sometime during the night leaving her exposed to the first rays of the morning sun.

Almost too slowly, the feeling in the rest of her body caught up to what she was seeing, and she realized that the pleasant warmth against her front was due to the way she was wrapped protectively around Kara from the other side. Her head was cushioned on the pillow just above the golden strands of Kara’s hair, and her arm was draped over Kara’s waist, holding them flush together.

Vansnavi for the ship ask?

Who said “I love you” first shameless fic rec https://archiveofourown.org/works/7799992 Usnavi did

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background Usnavi does. Vanessa has a pic of her cat.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror I feel like this is something Usnavi would totally do, but also Vanessa wakes up so much later than him that she doesn’t always see the notes so he’s just started to leave post-its instead

Who buys the other cheesy gifts USNAVI BUYS THE CHEESIEST GIFTS, I feel like Vanessa is not good at gift giving at all, with anyone, not just him, so she always asks Nina for a good gift idea and she gives him really good gifts he actually loves because Nina is smart like that

Who initiated the first kiss

Who kisses the other awake in the morning I don’t think either of them do that because I think Vanessa loves sleeping late and Usnavi not at all and I don’t think he’d have the courage to just go back to bed just to kiss her and risk a nudge in the stomach if it’s too early for her

Who starts tickle fights neither of them, they don’t do that

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower Vanessa doesn’t ask, she joins him and it’s up to him whether he’s in the mood for naughty stuff or not. Usnavi asks extremely awkwardly and Vanessa just learns to leave the door open just in case so she doesn’t have to suffer through 10 minutes of stuttering every time she says “hey I’m gonna take a shower”

Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch I feel like this is something Vanessa would do, just pop at the bodega and spend time with him, a quiet lunch break, a bit of making out, nice stuff

Who was nervous and shy on the first date shameless fic rec https://archiveofourown.org/works/10485270/chapters/23131677 I think that Usnavi was, but also Vanessa was quite emotional on the inside because I don’t think they’ve ever really been FRIENDS before, more like acquaintances with a huge crush on each other and their first date is probably one of the first times they really sat down to talk and learn so much about each other just the two of them

Who kills/takes out the spiders both of them pretend they’re absolutely not scared of spiders so they’re both willing to, but they’re both secretly terrified

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk shameless fic rec https://archiveofourown.org/works/10485270/chapters/23875728 100% MY BOY USNAVI

I'm not sure if you read them or have ever recommended her stories but domestic-styles has 2 really amazing stories, For the Love of Harry I just finished and The Preschool teacher is currently in the works but their both so good and have really long chapters to them!

@domestic-styles and her ongoing Preschool Teacher series has my heart soaring! I always get so happy when I see she’s updated it. I love it so much. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a fic as much as I love Shelli’s little series that she’s writing. I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t read it yet! xx

general li mulan

okay so i LOVE mulan okay. as far as i’m concerned it’s a Perfect Movie and doesn’t need any fixing. but i was thinking today and -

- what if mulan didn’t go to war to save her father?

say her father is dead, okay, killed by the previous war. so she’s raised by her mother and grandmother, women who’s complacency and softness has been worn away by necessity. she needs to marry well, for her family’s sake, because her mother has refused the hand of every man who offered. but mulan is even more rough around the edges than before, is educated not only in books (her mother said men wouldn’t find smarts attractive and grandmother pointed out that men aren’t always around and off to school mulan went) but in the sword too, taught to her by her classmate, ping.

mulan is considered in the lower end of the upper class, coming from a family of military men and scholars and successful merchants. ping is near the top, the son or nephew of an advisor to the emperor. his family is very rich and very important, and the reason they become friends is because mulan manages to notice something about him that he’s been hiding from everyone else - he’s going blind.

not totally blind, enough to get around, but blind enough that reading is difficult and swordplay is even worse, although once he has it down he has it. ping is no fool, he’s not weak or bumbling. his eyes just don’t work. so mulan notices and confronts him about it. she promises to keep it a secret, and hey, she’ll even help him with his assignments by reading the books out loud and helping him study. but in return he must teach her the sword, must teach her about military and tactics. he agrees.

ping and mulan become very good friends and there’s some raised eyebrows about it but they are TOO far away in class for it to be inappropriate, so they make tutting sounds and disapproving faces and let it go.

then the draft happens. ping can’t go to war, he won’t survive it. not with his eyesight like it is. so mulan offers him a deal - she’ll go to war for him, in his place. in return, if she survives, he must marry her. if she dies he must take care of her family.

ping can’t make this kind of family decision on his own, so he goes to his mother and tells her everything, about the eyesight and how he’ll die if he goes and mulan’s offer. his mother says he must keep it a secret from his father, but agrees - if mulan fights in her son’s place and survives, a wedding will be arranged. either way, mulan’s family will be taken care of. ping will be sent to live with some cousins in the meanwhile.

“you’re not in love with me, are you?” ping asks, helping mulan saddle her horse in the middle of the night. she scoffs and rolls her eyes, “not even a little. but marrying you will make my family happy, and besides, you’re my best friend,” she says, smiling, “better you than some grabby old man.” he smiles and hugs her and says, “i’m not in love with you either. but don’t die out there. we have a wedding to plan.”

so mulan goes to the camp, pretending to be ping, and she’s a little bit less lost but things still go as they go. she’s educated and trained, so it’s not hard for her to pass as ping. shang is keeping a special eye on her, thinking that she’s the son of an advisor, one of his father’s friends. and he sees how easily she excels, how quick thinking and smart she is, and starts giving her more and more responsibilities. by the time they’re called out, shang considers ping ie mulan to be his right hand man, and possibly his best friend.

he’s also a little bit in love with ping, and he’s long known he’s attracted to both genders, so he watches ping laugh and smile and the crease between his eyes when he frowns and does his best to let his feelings chase away the best soldier he has. every time shang looks at ping his heart clenches and he things to himself: i wish i could have you, i wish this was a time and a place where one man could have another, i wish you were a girl, is wish i was a girl - i wish we could be together. he’s literally a step away from doodling ‘li ping’ with little hearts over his battle plans.

so the battles happen. shang and ping lead their men together, respected and loved. they each get promoted, and promoted, and promoted. it’s been years, and it comes to a point where they’re both generals in their own right. they trust each other, care for each other. and are both secretly in love with the other.

mulan is so conflicted. because she wants this war to end and to go home and settle back into life and become ping’s wife, so she can have an easy life spent studying and learning with her family taken care of. that’s what she’d wanted. but now what she wants is shang, her best friend, her brother in arms, her fellow general. she wishes to be everything to him, aches to be the woman on his arm and in his bed, but knows it’s the one thing she can never be.

then that final battle happens. mulan’s quick thinking saves them all and ends the war - but she’s injured.

shang finds out the ping has been a girl all along. he demands explanations - so she tells him everything, that she traded places with ping to save him, to become his wife.

and the lies should sting the sharpest, but they don’t. she’s still the same person, after all. it’s that she’s promised to another man, for one second he’d thought he might have her, but no. so he agrees not to reveal her but he’s furious and furious at himself for being furious and they’re not the same now, broken and splintered and neither of them know what to do.

the war is over. they leave. mulan returns home, and thanks to her ping is now known as a respected general. she’s done her part and survived, and now she gets her reward - ping’s hand in marriage.

but she sees ping for the first time and flings herself into his arms and starts crying. she tells him everything, because he’s still her friend, her very best friend besides shang, the man whom she lied to and betrayed and loves. and ping listens and takes her by the shoulders and says - i’ll uphold our bargain, if that’s what you want. you can be my pampered wife, you’ve more than earned it. but if you want to go to shang, i won’t blame you. you deserve your happiness.

and mulan goes back and forth, but ultimately she decides she has to try. if shang rejects her she’ll return and marry ping and uphold her family honor. but if shang wants her - he’s not as high up as ping, but he’s high up enough to satisfy her family, and also she would love him and want him if he was no more than a farming peasant so it doesn’t matter much anyway.

she rides to the capitol. she finally meets ping’s father, running into him while looking for shang. “ah mulan,” says this man who was never supposed to know of her until she became his daughter-in-law, “i didn’t expect to see you here. how fortuitous. walk with me.” she does, wary, and that’s how she discovers - he and the emperor had discovered her deception a year in, but at that point she’d already proven herself too skilled and valuable to lose. he tells her that he will uphold his son and wife’s deal and gladly welcome her to his household - but that she’s earned her rank as general, and that he and the emperor have no problem with letting her keep it.

she says thank you, shocked and joyful, but that she has to talk to someone first. “ah, yes, young general li,” he says, eyes twinkling, “i do believe he’s around here somewhere.”

she has no idea how he seems to know everything, but she finally tracks down shang who’s ecstatic to see her and hates himself for it. she confesses - says she loves him, that she’s engaged to ping but willing and able to break this engagement for shang. who is dumbfounded and elated and says yes, of course, finally and forever.

and mulan accepts her rank and marries shang, and they become the literal power battle couple of the general li mulan and general li shang. ping becomes a scholar and marries a very nice young woman who loves reading and is happy to read aloud to her husband with his failing eyes.

and they all live happily ever after.

Few weeks ago my bud, @squigglydigg made a keyframe animation, and I sorta fell in love with the concept of it. With her permission she let me inbetween, and clean the sucker up! Bendy just ain’t having a good time at all in this.

They wrote scenes for me to dance around half-naked in my underwear! I went to Shonda Rhimes and said, “Do you really want me to do this? Why me? I have so much cottage cheese here and there!” She just looked at me and said, “Work it.” That was all I got from her. And sure enough, doing the scene helped me get over a lot of my issues. I had to accept my body.

Summary: The Ladyblog catches a private moment and Marinette is furious.

This story can also be found on FF.net and AO3.

The video was uploaded sometime after midnight early Saturday morning.

As was usually the case after an akuma attack, Alya Cesaire had been running on a caffeine rush and adrenaline high that made sleep impossible.  The dedicated blogger would not see the back of her eyes until her copy was written, her files rendered, and her newest masterpiece was live for the entire world to see.

Or at least the majority of Paris.  She was young yet.

Fortunately for the aspiring journalist, the Ladyblog’s wide and devoted readership ensured that the hits would rack up quickly regardless of the time of posting.

What no one could have anticipated, however, was just how quickly.

It started with the local news.

Nadja Chamack’s bright-eyed good morning Paris grin punctuated the more somber news of floods, akumas, and politics with the light-hearted clip.  The segment usually reserved for heartwarming fluff pieces about eye-seeing dogs and neighborhood bake sales was instead taken over by the city’s most reliable ratings machine.

Ladybug and Chat Noir were television gold.

From there the clip hit the major news networks and was being broadcast to the whole of France. Then came the talk shows, the copycat blogs, the online articles, Buzzfeed, and more.  When the video hit the front page of Reddit there was no stopping the infection.

By the time Monday morning rolled around, less than three days after the akuma attack and the video going live, Chat Noir had become the laughing stock of Paris, the Internet, and the world.

And Marinette Dupain-Cheng was absolutely furious.

one of the things I loved the most about Steve and Diana’s love story was that even though it was unconventional in its arc and ending (in that it didn’t follow the usual pattern or meet the usual goals of a fictional love story), it never sneered at those conventions. due to their circumstances- she’s a goddess, he’s a mortal, they’re in the middle of a war- and the fact that they are called to heroism and sacrifice, their story can’t end conventionally or domestically. but the beautiful thing about it is that the movie does not use its own heroic status to look down at love stories that do end traditionally and simply.

steve quips at the beginning about how no, married couples usually don’t love and cherish each other ‘til death do they part. he’s cynical about a lot and that includes love and marriage. diana was brought up on an all-female island. her goals and ambitions, her purpose in life are different from most women around her. from the start it’s clear that their love story was never going to end quietly and conventionally, not least because the story in which both of them live does not explicitly deal with the themes of love and marriage. diana begins her journey ready to fulfill her sacred mission and duty, and through meeting her and learning from her, steve also rises to great heights. both perform heroic feats and acts of self-sacrifice. they are heroes and heroes are not ordinary people.

but the reason that wonder woman succeeds so spectacularly and rises above many of its counterparts (to me at least) is that it acknowledges that heroes should only exist to protect the lives of ordinary people. it believes that it is the sacred duty of heroes to fight evil on the grandest scale precisely so that everyone else can continue to live quietly, peacefully, domestically. convention, tradition, even routine are not dismissed or belittled. they are raised up. they are cherished and fought for as the very things that make life worth living. wonder woman is about war, but it is not about war with no cause. it is about the only thing that ever makes a war justified.

and when steve and diana are dancing in the snow and diana asks “is this what people do when there are no wars?” she’s asking it because she never forgets that she’s fighting for more (so much more) than her own glory or even just to defeat evil. she’s fighting for the preservation of peace, of ordinary people’s right to dance together in the snow without danger, to eat breakfast, go to work, raise children, live their ordinary lives without fear. and when steve hands her his watch at the end and says “i wish we had more time” he’s saying he wishes that they had time to build a whole life together, a whole life of beautiful peaceful ordinariness. steve and diana’s love story is tragic because it’s cut short before the rest of it can unfold, but it’s beautiful because, in sacrificing a future that neither can have but both want, they are making possible the flourishing of a hundred other love stories, of a thousand other peaceful, ordinary lives. and both believe that that is worth every sacrifice.

Apparently some people in this fandom (read White People) have a problem with authors writing for readers of color, since I am a real Bitch and I’m fresh out of fucks I decided I was gonna write not one, but two POC Reader inserts, this is one of them. The next one is gonna be Black!Reader and Bucky. This is dedicated to that anon @papi-chulo-bucky got last week who was crying about Haunting Me being a POC reader insert and, of course, to all the other bitches who want to complain about POC!Reader inserts being discriminatory towards White People.

i get why lovelace and hera (and even maxwell to a lesser degree) are the most popular ladies of wolf 359 but i truly and deeply believe renee minkowski deserves more attention and love than she gets

im doing my listen-through again and the thing that gets me, REALLY gets me, REALLY REALLY GETS ME, about minkowski is how much she loves and how much she wants a family. not to be embarrassing but one of the most powerful passages of literature i have ever read, one of the literary passages that has stuck with me for years, is that scene in the first warriors series where firestar is getting his nine lives from starclan, and one of the she-cats, i dont remember who, gives him a mother’s love, and he thinks hes going to get “~fluffy gentle feelings~” and instead he gets a BURST OF PROTECTIVE BLOODTHIRSTY RAAAAAAGE and i dont think anything has ever summed up my (admittedly limited) understanding of minkowski better than that

renee minkowski loves so much. she is so strong in her love. she does her duty - she does her job - she throws herself into every hard part about it - she does the talent show, she wants eiffel and hilbert to be there, she wants christmas to be something good for them all. she loves and that doesnt just mean people, she loves doing what she’s expected, she loves doing a good job, before everything goes to hell she just loves to do that. which doesnt mean there are necessarily or frequently ~warm gooey feelings~ about what she does, she has the kind of love that throws you against every brick wall until you get through broken and bleeding. does she maybe do it all to make up for some perceived lacking on her own part? maybe, maybe cutter and hilbert were right, to puncture holes in her confidence. i dont know i havent listened to the show that much. do i still think that love - ferocious and ruthlessly unsentimental and primal and surely selfish - is at least one of her primary motivations, if not the primary? yes yes i do

(side note: minkowski’s a frickin slytherin BITE ME. minkowski loves eiffel so much. minkowski loves hera so much. i think minkowski still loves hilbert on some level. but minkowski doesnt love everyone. she doesnt love kepler, or maxwell, or jacobi. she loves her crew. sometimes that includes lovelace, sometimes it doesnt - it depends. but her core crew is eiffel and hera. she will do anything for them. she throws away her own morality, her own soul for them. she sacrifices herself again and again for them. she makes the tough calls for them. she wants, she needs, she has to protect them all. if “minkowski commanding” didn’t prove that i dont know what does - theres ambition in that, unstoppable and brutal, intransigently moral and savagely amoral at the same time, her love for doug eiffel and hera. what will renee minkowski not do for doug eiffel and hera?)

i hate that i feel guilty for “”reducing minkowski to a mother figure”” but if i have permission to speak freely then im going to freely tell those guilty feelings to shove it because renee minkowski is not reduced by her bone-deep protectiveness or her capacity for love; she is not dishonored or insulted by my seeing her in the unspeakably resilient role of female protector, mother, unceasingly self-sacrificial, going on and on and on just to keep her people, her family, alive

so to conclude renee minkowski is my space step-mom and i will stand up for her and her incredibleness until the undoubtedly bitter end thanks and good night
