i just love everything about this movie

RiP Macy… again… and again…

Alright, so THIS is the boss-ass Ruffnut episode I’ve heard tiddles about. I  mean, it’s about the twins, and the twins have been fantastic… pretty much throughout all of RTTE, and whatever nonsense happened to Ruff in RoB/DoB has MORe than been made up for. Ruffnut is a queen, and this just fit SO WELL into everything we know about her from the movies. THIS is what the TV show is good for - giving us some quality personality shit for side characters.

Anyway: Ruffnut WHERE YO DOO-DAD’s GIRL?

Anyway, don’t blame Fishlegs AND Snotlout finally falling for her. (Or Hiccup, because Ruffcup is still an old love that should never be ignored as it was for no f-ing reasing *side eyes By the Toe*). If there ARE more seasons, I hope they cover at least all that.

*casually ignores Astrid’s one moment in this episode*

*Also wonders if Hiccup COULD be defeated if Viggo freaking listened to Ryker for once*

NOTES II. charles darwin ari on the origin of species sofie.

the beauty is love post is miles long but that’s a thimble full of her stuff that really came up and occurred to me in the last like… week so. i’m going to take y’all back to the beginning: all the characters & concepts that inspired her. up next will be the sheet on OG sofie that the other sofies just need to have the blanks filled in for, and i’m pretty sure that’d be nnnot everything OUT THERE but everything that anyone could possible need to know about her. more or less.

i. things invoked; noteless concepts and movies and books and characters that became tied to hers.

  • the rabbit & the snake, control, mean girls, power in the wrong hands, subjectivity, intelligence v. wisdom, girly girls, claire standish (the breakfast club), jennifer’s body, poison, wendigos, wintergirls, the heart, duality, good v. right, harley quinn (dc comics), honesty, maleficent, lawrence kohlberg’s six stages of moral development

ii. things inspired; fragments (or chunks) of these make sofie who she is.

  • ella enchanted: ELLA ENCHANTED WAS THE ORIGINAL STARTING POINT FOR SOFIE!!! flashback to like. two days before powerpals is born. i’m talking to alex. uhgjndgdhgdjgkjfhd alex i don’t know what to do. alex says. hey. hey. reverse ella enchanted. and i’m like: B*TCH!
  • private school girls: that^ led me here. i love my irl friends… i do… but they’re mean, like, sofie’s crowd mean, and something i had been hearing a LOT being thrown around at that time was “kys” as a joke. so me being me i kind of… made the connection. what if reverse ella enchanted was like that, said that to someone? imagine? SO SOFIE IS BORN. AS A SOLID CONCEPT. from there i really wanted to flesh her out to be just like my friends because they’re “mean girls” but i don’t think very many films or works or anything have ever really done the mean girl justice. she’s almost never as three dimensional as she should be. sooo. i took a lot of their interests, philosophies, their fears, their prejudices, their traits, etc. and i amplified them aaand put them into sofie.
  • vriska serket (homestuck): THEN CAME… VRISKA’S LAW [the formalized phenomenon of a specific recurring theme of internet people trying to ham-handedly declare a character with nuance as either ‘good person’ or ‘evil person’] and i knew sofie wasn’t going to be totally good or totally evil. so. i made her to play w/ morality. a lot. judgemental and ignorant but just and honest. “bitchy” but selfless. etc. also i luv vriska so. vriska just factored into her a lot.
  • daisy buchanan & myrtle wilson (the great gatsby): more daisy than myrtle- myrtle is listed because of how interesting i thought the juxtaposition between myrtle’s depiction as raw, vivacious, and (as sofie has said) unapologetically human and daisy’s portrayal as and etheral, sirenlike, golden even though they’re actually quite similar really interesting. i wanted a character that could embody both of those things, which i made her into- also influencing the whole “beauty is love” paradox in her philosophy and existence. the descriptions of daisy were always something i wanted to bring into sofie but rarely have a chance to due to the fact that she’s written as if she’s the one in control rather than from a narrative. (”Her face was sad and lovely with bright things in it, bright eyes and a bright passionate mouth–but there was an excitement in her voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget: a singing compulsion, a whispered "Listen,” a promise that she had done gay, exciting things just a while since and that there were gay, exciting things hovering in the next hour.”) it’s part of the reason i chose sofie’s striking features to be less physical (her smile, her voice, her expressions, her height) and the reason i chose to have her be beautiful but in a way that’s “average”, forgettable. her immediate and general beauty isn’t supposed to be her most striking feature. [i have a really detailed analysis of daisy and myrtle i recently wrote too and not to toot m’own horn but… if u guys want to read it… it’s so good… hmu]
  • the witch (into the woods): THE WITCH SAVED SOFIE! i was in a period early on where i was really at a loss for what to do with her and i was listening to the soundtrack of this show and it hit me like a ton of bricks: the witch and sofie are one in the same. i read more and… as i do… i analyzed the witch and i concluded the witch’s arc was very similar to what i wanted for sofie. i haven’t met a lot of sondheim savvy people on here so basically into the woods is a very long and (really REALLY GOOD) show about morality, using characters from fairy tales and showing how their tales all intertwine. i was in it later on (as… the witch) which deepened my understanding of it a lot more? but basically. in into the woods the witch plays a neutral and very different character to foil the other “heroic” characters of the main group. the dilemma in act 2 is that a giantess is destroying the kingdom where all the characters reside, inadvertently, in a bid to avenge her husband. this giantess is the widow of a giant that was accidentally killed by jack (from the beanstalk story) in act 1. the whole thing witch’s thing (as well as being a recurring thing throughout the show) is being right (fair) vs. being good (kind). in act 2, the group of heroes wants to do the “good” thing (kill the giantess, save the kingdom from further destruction), while the witch wants to do the “right” thing (give jack, who killed the giantess’s husband, to the giant so she’ll just leave. does she still save the kingdom? yes. but it’s not exactly the heroes’s first thought.) this snippet of one of the witch’s songs sums it up really well: “[WITCH:] No? No, of course what really matters is the blame, somebody to blame. Fine, if that’s the thing you enjoy, placing the blame, if that’s the aim, give me the blame- Just give me the boy. [THE OTHERS:] No! [WITCH:] No? You’re so nice. You’re not good, you’re not bad, you’re just nice. I’m not good, I’m not nice, I’m just right. I’m the Witch. You’re the world. I’m the hitch. I’m what no one believes, I’m the Witch. You’re all liars and theives,”
  • for a more in depth explanation of the witch’s morality, this is an excerpt from my (really outdated, so forgive me because i know it’s bad) analysis: “On the flip side, who are the bad guys? The Witch is the obvious choice, but most of that comes from her having the clearest vision of anyone in the piece. She hides Rapunzel away because she wants to protect Rapunzel from all the evil forces in the world, forces that eventually lead to Rapunzel’s death (though the Witch’s overprotection cripples Rapunzel’s coping skills, and compounds the problem). The witch also wants to turn young so Rapunzel will love her, and she wishes to throw Jack to the Giantess because otherwise the Giantess will kill them all. In the second act, after Rapunzel dies and leaves the Witch devoid of emotion, she is the voice of pure reason that cuts through everyone’s emotional defenses - telling the stepmother that there is nowhere to hide, confronting Little Red about how the dead wolf’s mother feels, weighing the life of one against the lives of many. …There is a constant attempt by the witch to equate wolves to humans, not only in “Stay with Me”, but in her accusation of Little Red in the second act - “Since when are you so squeamish, how many wolves have you carved up? [LITTLE RED:] A wolf’s not the same. [WITCH:] Ask a wolf’s mother!” This humanization of the wolf (why else is the wolf anatomically humanoid?) has the effect of moderating a lot of the evil that we normally associate with wolves, even though we don’t really know a whole lot about them. That is, after all, the big problem with wish fulfillment, we often make wishes about something without realizing what exactly we are wishing for. …Everyone is at fault for the events that have befallen, but the point is, who cares? At that point, blame is irrelevant. That is what the Witch understands, “well if that’s the thing you enjoy / placing the blame / if that’s the aim/ give me the blame/ just give me the boy”. Action needs to be taken.” that basically occurred to me as what i wanted sofie to become, so i set her arc’s course based on the witch’s morality. for, in essence, the witch rejects the popular (normal) option for the most just, which i thought aligned well with sofie’s themes.
  • beauty & the beast / beauty IS a beast: the eponymous classic fairy tale and the not-so-classic play i starred (and bombed) in back in fifth grade contributed a lot to sofie as a starting concept: the former contributing to the mechanics of her curse and the latter giving the idea of having sofie become a monster in the first place. the tie-ins with beauty and love are just an added bonus.
  • glinda the good (wicked): aka, the story of the two (three) witches in the wizard of oz and how they and the other characters came to be who they were, starting with childhoods and youths and ending after the events of the wizard of oz. not shitting you, this show changed my perspective on EVERYTHING. morality, politics, history, power, love, you name it. please watch wicked. i have a bootleg. blease. ANYWAY. the fact that glinda was given the title “good” only because the oppresor (the wizard) dictated her to be so to a trusting and mislead populace because she was passive rather than rebellious (unlike elphaba who got the label of WICKED WITCH for being just that) when she saw a group being oppressed was really wild to me. like, how perspective influenced everything. note how the wizard says in wonderful, “[WIZARD”:] You see, I never had a family of my own, so I guess I just wanted to give the citizens of Oz everything. [ELPHABA:] So you lied to them.? [WIZARD:] Elphaba, where I come from, we believe all sorts of things that aren’t true. We call it History.
A Man’s Called A Traitor | Or Liberator. A Rich Man’s A Thief | Or Philanthropist. Is One A Crusader | or ruthless invader? It’s all in which label | is able to persist. | There Are Precious Few At Ease | With Moral Ambiguities, So We Act As Though They Don’t Exist. | They Call Me Wonderful, So I Am Wonderful…“ little old 8th grade me thought how he explained how much the application of morality can differ based on perspective was the coolest shit, and i brought that into sofie. glinda’s character- the popular “alpha bitch-y” girl also influenced sofie, as she was portrayed very differently than all of the other ones i had ever seen- she was fleshed out. below her shallow exterior she was genuinely generous, unselfish, self-critical, reflective- her heart bled for others. when she found out the one she loved and engaged to marry instead was in love with her best friend she ultimately took it graciously and with understanding. she did want the best for others- she was “good” in a way that fit the mold of what the government (the wizard and co.) wanted but did have an inherent goodness to her. this influenced a lot of the redeeming qualities i chose to give sofie.

iii. things deconstructed; each of these could get their own post akin to the musing on beauty is love. i’m just going to list them, don’t worry.

  • the “alpha bitch” trope, beauty standards, fairy tales, what makes a monster and what makes a man?, immortality as a curse, true love, good v. right

I decided to become an artist when I was about your age. I liked to draw so much, I almost hated to go to bed. And then one day, all of a sudden, I couldn’t draw anything. Everything I drew, I didn’t like. I realized that my art up to then was a copy of someone else, things I had seen somewhere. I decided I had to discover my own style. It’s still difficult. But then, the results… They seem to be a little better than before. It’s nice to be a witch, isn’t it? I like the idea - to be a witch, to be an artist, to be a baker… It’s an energy bestowed by the gods or someone, right? Though thanks to it, we do have to suffer at times.

All I fucking want is for someone to explain in what universe, after everything they’ve been through together, does Sherlock point a gun to himself

and John is like

instead of stopping him?!

And in what universe is John fucking drowning

And Sherlock’s like

And people are wondering why are so many fans upset, why they were rooting for this to be a fake episode? Yeah, among other shitload of things, you just basically killed these two characters and everything they used to stand for, for the sake of a soap opera/horror movie plot, no big deal. Why, why do this? If you love these characters you wouldn’t do this. I’m just so sad, this is not “Sherlock” anymore. I have the right to be upset, my favorite show has been mutilated beyond recognition. damn right I’m gonna rant about it.

i want to know everything that makes you smile, or cry. what songs you love and movies that made you sad. i want to know your reaction every time you see my name on your screen: does your heart cringe or does it make you mad? i want to know if, even just a bit, you also wanted to know me and everything that makes me someone who can adore you. it’s a plethora list of things i wanna know about you. it’s also these things i want to forget.
Types Of FPs

Type 1: The Main FP™. You know the one, the light of your life. Usually a friend, s/o, crush, etc.

Type 2: the celebrity/fictional fp. You’re obsessed with them, have seen every show/movie/video and/or read every book. It’s not uncommon for one to not know everything about them and then split when they become problematic/do something unlikable

Type 3: the lowkey (potential) fp. For me usually somebody I follow on tumblr, but could be anybody you barely know but still idolize, just not to the point of obsession & undying love. They tend to switch around a lot, too.

This is for the wonderful @thing-you-do-with-that-thing ‘s SPN Movie Night Challenge. My movie was The Conjuring, and my pairing was Destiel.

Warnings: smut, anal sex, dry humping (is that a warning?)

Word Count: 2100ish

A/N: My use of the movie wasn’t my most creative idea ever, but I still love writing these too dorks having all the sweet sex. Feedback much appreciated!

“What are we watching?” Dean relaxes just asking the question. These movie nights with Cas are his favorite nights, when everything is quiet except for the small laptop on his bed, and the whole world outside of his bedroom doesn’t exist.

They were his favorite nights even before he and Cas became…whatever they are- they haven’t really talked about it or labeled it, but Cas does stay in Dean’s bedroom every night now, and they definitely do more than sleep. But now, now that Dean’s allowed to snuggle into Cas’ side, or fall asleep tangled up in him afterward, or distract himself with sex if the movie is boring, now these nights are the absolute best nights Dean has.

We rehearsed all the time. I mean, I couldn’t appreciate the compliment about the chemistry more because, like, I fell in love with Timmy in the process of making the movie. He’s fuсking terrific and he’s also an incredible actor, so I had all of that. It was just this great experience where I think we all, in the process of making this movie, got that experience of that one summer where we were there and everything was perfect.” — Armie Hammer on working with Timothée Chalamet on “Call Me By Your Name”

The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire | Dan and Phil’s Story of TATINOF

(made by two dorks on the internet, @danisnotonfire & @amazingphil)

I’ve been watching them for almost 6 years now and although I never got the chance to see them in real life, these two movies/videos really summed up everything I love about them and more. The performance was incredible (cringey but amazing) and the documentary brought tears to my eyes. Thanks to Dan & Phil for always making us constantly smile and inspired with everything you do! Also thanks to the Phandom for embracing me into this community. This is the most fun, I’ve ever had :’)!

In the new year, I wish to grow myself.
To find beautiful things to love, about myself and the world around me.
Listen to strangers, hug more, watch old movies, read more stories of love and adventure, kiss more, laugh more, find good people that make me feel good, eat more sweets at midnight, call me friends, actually talk to people, dance around the room to Sinatra, smile more, find new hobbies that keep me happy, take more walks, take pictures of people and nature, put my phone down more, look at art, people, places. Just to love everything.

vilya1  asked:

What is your favourite Studio Ghibli movie?

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! What a deliciously disgusting question.

Not my absolute favourites but I couldn’t answer this question without mentioning them: Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbour Totoro, The Secret World of Arietty and When Marnie Was There.

But, my two favourites (I have to have two, kill me) are Howl’s Moving Castle and From Up On Poppy Hill.

I will try and put a lid on how much I could ramble about Howl’s because mother of god, do I love that film. But, Howl’s and Poppy Hill sum up everything I love about Ghibli movies. One is full of magic and demons and spells and fantasy and one is just a story about two people in the real world and they are both so wonderfully done that they’re both magic, whether they’re real world or not. And of course, they’re both about love, which could be said for every Ghibli movie really :)

*mutters more about Howls and Poppy Hill and the voice acting and fucking Christian Bale you have ruined any other male voice actor ever and Anton Yelchin and the animation and it’s so gorgeous and the FOOD AND THE LITTLE TOUCHES YOU COULD EASILY NOT NOTICE AND JESUS CHRIST*

I have a lot of feelings.

the prince of egypt remains my favourite animated move of all time to cinematography, soundtrack, character design, colour, character animation and basically everything about the movie and i will put on netflix just to flick through and watch deliver us and the plagues multiple times and i will never be bored watching this movie and i can’t express how much i love it

Happy Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope you’re all having a good day/night but I know this time of the year can be pretty hard for some people too.

I want you to remember that everything will be okay, even if you’re spending this weekend with unpleasant people or just alone. You are loved and there so many good things to look forward to, even if you can’t really see them now ok?

You can chat with a friend again, read a great story, pet a dog, meet someone amazing, discover tasty food, listen to a great new song, watch a good show or movie, learn new things, suddenly become passionate about something you’ve never considered and so many other things. Things that are only yours and I can’t really think about. They’re worth it, so hang in there.

Thank you everyone for the support and honestly for just being out there!

I don’t know if I ever rambled on my blog about how much I loved / love this film? The Place Beyond The Pines.

I saw it not long after it came out and it broke me. I don’t often get hangovers from movies but I would cry just thinking about this film days after I watched it. It really touched a nerve. I wasn’t close to my biological Dad at all and he died when I was nine, but I found this film - this film about Fathers and their legacies - so profound that it made me question everything I thought I might have known about him. I don’t want to get super deep but I LOVED it, and something about it was just really comforting. Even if someone makes stupid choices, they’re usually just trying their best.

I finally properly saw Moana today (it took me awhile to get out to the theater, fuck winter, I’m ready for spring already) and, honestly, I spent at least a third of the movie just kind of slightly misty-eyed at how beautiful and touching it was just to get to see this movie at all.  To see a Polynesian girl who is the next leader of her people, that it’s both about finding out who she is and being the future of her people and that her struggle is between finding the balance of those things was amazing.  To have such a beautiful, rich, vibrant world in everything from the visuals (SUCH A GORGEOUS MOVIE) to the mythology/culture to the little touches of humor and lovely characters.

I just sat there and was so happy to see this movie and how good it was, how much I loved the songs and how great it was to have this young woman at the center of it all, to have this epic journey that showed how powerful she was because of her spirit and determination and care.

I will never, ever get enough of stories like that and, honestly, it’s a struggle not to immediately reblog approximately every single Moana post I can find on tumblr.

“For the longest time, I HATED “Frozen” and everything about it. But, when my niece first watched it she fell in love.Every time she’s over now she has to watch it, no matter how many times it ends up playing. You would think I would hate it more but, honestly, I don’t. Now, whenever I see something “Frozen” related, it reminds me of her. I even sang “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman” to her just to watch her get the biggest grin on her little face. My love for her overshadowed my hate for the movie.”
