I like Mineta a lot. He's not my favorite by any means, but he's a smart kid, and he wants to be a hero just like the rest of the class. Him being a pervert is overplayed and made to be too big of a part of him, but I really hope he gets to showcase that he's more than that in the future. Everyone insists that he's a horrible character because he's a pervert, but similar things happen in history that everyone overlooks, like Mozart liking scat. I hope he becomes great and people overlook it? Idk
see, he would be a nice character if he actually noticed that what hes doing is wrong and sought to change it; he doesnt. the fact that hes only used for fanservice and is essentially a gag character (which was even shown during the end of term test arc, even though it was a good opportunity to give him some personality or improvement or importance) is what makes him so unlikable to the audience.
hes not that good of a character from a writing-sense, in that any redeeming qualities he might have had are downplayed or almost erased in favor of fanservice and the author’s self-projection. he rarely seems to utilize that op intelligence stat (and when he does it’s forgotten), and his cowardice and “style of rubbing salt in the wound” (thanks tsuyu) isnt very likable either; when you pair that with his extremely perverted behavior and compare to say, someone like kaminari, he becomes someone that the viewers find very hard to like and to associate with.
dont get me wrong, i hope he improves! bakugou’s improving, and im all for that, because character development tends to be necessary for good characters, and itd be nice to see what he can do; unfortunately, hes nowhere near that as of yet, so i cannot enjoy his presence in the series.
