So….here are my totally non-canonical interpretations of the characters from the wonderful book “Every Heart a Doorway.”

Tor released a free download of the book and I had not the slightest inkling of what it was about. I really enjoyed it( That may be a mild understatement. It was one of those books that leave you satisfied and then the plot and it’s characters haunt you and you’re slowly forced to realize it had a lot more impact than you originally gave it credit for and you go and reread it and look for all the hidden clues and hunger for more). All that being said, I really enjoyed the characters. McGuire describes them in such a way that their personalities really instruct their appearance. I couldn’t help but sketch out my visions of them.  I highly recommend reading this book and I’m excited to read Seanan Mcguire’s other books!

Expect much more fanart of this series.

P.S it would mean everything to me if @seananmcguire saw this.

haikyuu fic rec #1

i’ve read quite a bit of fanfic since joining the haikyuu fandom, so i’ve decided to put together a list of some of my favorites so far. obviously i’m a shameless multishipper so these are gonna be all over the place.

along dream paths by mysecretfanmoments (ukatake, 3.2k)

Ukai makes the mistake of looking in Takeda’s notebook after practice one day, expecting volleyball notes; what he finds is a love poem.

just a really good ukatake

azumane asahi’s big gay romance by jibrailis (asanoya, 13.6k)

The air-con gets cranky, Asahi gets a job, and Nishinoya gets his man.

kind of silly and a lot cute.

jaywalkers by batman (kurotsukki and assorted pairings, 127k)

A collection of stories the morals of which all amount to: if something can go wrong, it will. Also, if something can go right, it also will.

Alternatively, that one college AU where everyone fucks all the shit up.

my dudes. the hype is real. i literally cannot recommend this series enough.

pieces by therabbitwhisperer (bokuaka and assorted pairings, wip)

The miraculous life of Akaashi Keiji, a tragedy in ten parts.

what’s funny is i started reading this thinking it was going to be a fluffy tattoo / florist au, then the end of the first part happened. really highly recommended but do heed the warnings, there’s a lot of potentially triggering / upsetting material in there.

saffron and cayenne pepper by dontsaycrazy (kagehina, 30k)

Cooking is hard. Even if you have your very attractive, very grumpy neighbor there to help you.

In which Hinata’s lack of cooking skills are a danger to him and others. Luckily (or not), Kageyama is willing to teach him, for the sake of avoiding any burned down apartments.

tooth-rotting kagehina fluff with a side of kiyoyachi, what more can you ask for

oh we play, in autumn days by aruariandance (kagehina, 7.6k)

“I think about your collarbones in Calculus,” he says, and then waits for death to be swift.

all of aruariandance’s kagehinas are great but this one is my fave.

impulse by metis_ink (semishira, 15k)

Second year Semi Eita faces the downward spiral that is his life following the arrival of some first year setter who’s way too cocky for his own good.

tfw you actually find good fic in a rarepair tag

birkenstocks and other problems by dicaeopolis (asanoya, 2.5k)

Nishinoya Yuu has 99 problems, and Azumane Asahi is all of them.

Or, “tiny panicking bisexual meets tall panicking lesbian”.

rule 63 asanoya. nuff said

on stranger tides by theroyalsavage (kagehina and assorted pairings, 74k)

When Hinata Shouyou is 13 years old, his village is raided by pirates.

Most everything Hinata knows is destroyed in the attack, lost to the flames, but he and his sister are pulled from the wreckage by a boy with eyes the color of a storm. Their lives are saved, but irrevocably altered - their home is lost forever, and there is something strange about the pirates, something blurry and shadowed and wrong.

A darkness is rising out of the depths of the ocean. The sea itself is stirring, and nothing can stop it when it wakes.

pirates of the caribbean was, like, my childhood, so. this au is crazy good.

he always starts something by codango (kurotsukki, 38.3k)

In his third year of high school, Kei is recruited by Kuroo’s university to play volleyball. A weekend on campus is plenty of time to check out the team, meet the coaches, see a game from the bench… and see if his two-year-old crush on Kuroo has any chance at all.

this is actually the fic that got me interested in kurotsukki. i had read the asanoya fic in the same ‘verse and continued with this one out of curiosity. suffice it to say this fic holds a special place in my heart lol.

the dew of little things by poulerslashes (kagehina, 3.9k)

It wasn’t as though Kageyama needed the friends–kids who shared video games, who watched cartoons, who did this and that of no consequence–who would eat up all his time if he gave them any to start with. He had volleyball, and volleyball was more than enough.

10/10 would get slapped in the feels again.

anyway that’s all for now, i might do more of this once i accumulate more recs.

anonymous asked:

What do you think is the best way to contact a spirit for a beginner spirit worker? Thanks you :)

hi anon!

this is a great question that can vary in answer depending on who you’re asking. for some people who started and stuck exclusively with spirit shops and conjurers, they may recommend exactly that! for others who meet spirits without the aid of shops, they may recommend conjuring yourself, or even taking a look around your house or neighborhood. spirits exist everywhere and are all around us, so the options are endless.

first off: protections

for a beginner, i first want to recommend knowing how to protect yourself. before you even begin meeting spirits or contacting them, ensure you know how to ward yourself and your room and/or personal space. in ideal situations i would recommend also warding your entire house, if possible, but i know that can be a bit difficult, especially if you use tools to help ward and you live with people who may not know you’re a spirit worker. i experience that particular problem myself, so i can relate. protections at the very least will ensure that if something goes wrong, you will remain safe.

now, on to the fun part: meeting a spirit!

spirits are easier to find than you think

something i didn’t realize when beginning spirit work is that spirits are all around us, all the time. that tree in your backyard? it most likely has a spirit. those crossroads where those two streets intersect by your house? spirits probably pass through there. that lake you might walk by once in a while? there are likely spirits that call that lake home. live in more of an urban environment? no worries- spirits live there too. spirits call many places home, and once you come to terms with this reality, everything will change for you, both in positive and negative ways. remember: spirit work is dangerous. but you know what else is dangerous? driving and swimming- two things that a lot of people do on a near daily basis. just as you learn the right precautions you need to take before you get behind the wheel or enter the water, you do the same before you get involved with spirits. but once you’re able to drive, or swim, or interact with spirits, and you do so safely, you will be opening yourself up to a world of opportunities and wonderful experiences, as well as danger. regardless of the outcomes, though, driving, swimming, and spirit work are all learning experiences. it’s appreciating your newfound experiences and everything that comes along with it, positive and negative, that’s key to making spirit work a really wonderful thing.

now, i often times see beginners discuss how they conjure spirits to meet them. while that practice is completely valid, i would not recommend it for a beginner for one simple reason: why put in all of that work when you have spirits around you already? i dunno about you, but i love being lazy. if there’s a short but efficient route i can take, i’ll take it, and reaching out to spirits that already exist around you is exactly that: short, sweet, and efficient. use the resources already at your disposal!

and so ultimately, my recommendation for a beginner spirit worker who wants to contact a spirit is to use proper protections, discernment, respect, and caution to introduce yourself to a spirit who already lives close by. now, if you’re asking yourself, “but what if i can’t feel spirits yet? how do i find one if i can’t sense them?”, then you’ll need to back up a tiny bit, but only for a moment.

recognizing what’s familiar so we can recognize what’s unfamiliar

i mentioned before that trees contain spirits. trees are old, hulking giants that have seen so many things. if possible, find a tree that you can sit under for a few hours, and make sure you bring a laptop or a notebook and pen. whether a spirit worker or not, lounging under trees is a common thing done by many people, and so you likely won’t be infringing on what the tree spirit considers its space, as it’s already something so frequently shared.

while there, relax and focus. it may take you a bit to find that sweet spot between comfortable and attentive, but take your time, be patient, and you’ll get there. while focusing (or meditating, if you’d like to slip into a deeper state of consciousness), sense what you feel around you. is there a breeze? how are you breathing? are you hungry? do you hear people talking? are there cars driving by? focus on each external force that is acting in and around you. once you recognize each one of these distractions, mentally label it, and then let it go. visualization here can help. for me, i mentally picture myself writing “cars”, “talking”, or “stomach growling” on a little paper boat and sending it down a river. be creative, and imagine yourself acknowledging and then removing each one of these external forces acting around you.

these things will continue to happen around you, of course, but by acknowledging these distractions and then letting them go, you will begin to feel the silence underneath everything. it is in this silence we are able to sense spirits. often times people try to forcibly tune out the things happening around them in order to concentrate, but in doing so, they instead wind up harping on these things, stunting their ability to concentrate. but, if you recognize each potential distraction and then let it slip away from your attention, you will feel less inclined to focus on it. in doing this, we get one step closer to putting all of our attention on sensing spirits.

as we understand and recognize the energies and distractions that come from the mundane world around us, including the energies and distractions that come from ourselves, we will begin to pick up on energies we are unfamiliar with. often times, these unfamiliar energies are spirits whose vibrations and energies we have tapped into after we recognize, understand, and discard the familiar energies around us.

starting small (or large): listening to trees

as your focus turns its back on those distractions, you are able to place your attention elsewhere- in this case, on spirits. as you sit under that tree, begin to focus on what energies the tree is giving off. do you see colors? do you hear the impressions of a voice? or maybe you are experiencing feelings that you know are not your own because, as stated above, you recognized how you are feeling and know what to expect from yourself. any energies, feelings, colors, sounds, etc, that you experience while focusing on that tree can be the tree’s spirit communicating with you, with other trees around it, or with itself. but regardless who that info is meant to be going to, it is still information coming from the tree’s spirit. if possible, write down any and all sensations and experiences you receive from that tree. then, using proper discernment in the form of meditation or divination tools, for example, reflect back on what you experienced. then, repeat this process. go back to the tree some time later, focus on it, and see what information you receive then. crosscheck your experiences with your previous ones, and even do a little research. what else do other people experience when they hang out with a tree spirit?

from there, as you get more and more comfortable with the methods you use to pick up on this tree spirit, move onto different spirits. as you practice, you may not need to sit down and meditate to find a spirit. over time, you may be able to pick up on those unfamiliar energies while you’re out and about, and in doing so, you may find a spirit that lives in a store you frequently go to, for example, without having to sit down and meditate on it.

if my tree method does not work for you because of your living environment, don’t worry. are there flowers outside? can you afford a potted plant, maybe? do you live by a beach? do you own crystals? all of these things, and all of these locations will contain spirits that may be willing to share info with you. the reason i recommend starting with a tree or other plants is because they tend to be easy to work with, and often times far less malicious than other spirits you may come across. but don’t be fooled! plant and tree spirits have their own personalities. you may find one that’s a bit snippy or grumpy. don’t always expect that a little flower will be kind!

now, that is just one recommendation i can give, which i personally find is the best one. but! other people will likely give you very different answers!

what about spirit shops?

do you feel comfortable purchasing from a conjurer? then maybe you can try out a spirit shop. if you find a shop, i highly recommend reading reviews and see how the shop treat their spirits. do they create listings that read like items that are being sold? or do their listings read like profiles for living entities who are autonomous and have their own wants/needs/desires, and are fully in control of the companion they will be going home to? as well, see if you can find how much experience the shop owners/conjurers have. in my experience, all reputable shops should have a detailed “about” page that explains the full extent of that shop owners experience. and finally, trust your gut. how you feel when looking through someone’s shop is key to determining if you’d like to work with them. you’ll be contacting and bringing home a friend who should 1) want to be in that shop and 2) want to go with you. in my opinion, if you sense any red flags, then stay the hell away.

what about conjuring?

and lastly, there’s the conjuring option. this i just… don’t recommend, personally. spirit work is risky in every way, shape, and form, but when you conjure, you have no idea who will show up, especially if you’re a beginner.

in conclusion…

the choice is up to you. how do you feel you’d best experience spirit work as a beginner? do you feel safe going outside and trying to commune with a spirit? would you rather have someone from a shop pair you up with a spirit? or maybe you think you’ll have a knack for conjuring! ultimately the decision is yours. i do hope i was able to provide some info to help guide you along the way, though!

well anon, i wish the best of luck to you! if you have any questions or comments for me, please feel free to drop by!

anonymous asked:

I /almost/ turned in my Klance fan fiction instead of my assignment to one of my teachers

LMFAO you’re veryyy lucky that was an “almost” situation…. some of us aren’t quite that blessed…….

this ask may or may not have unlocked a tiny chapter of my cringey backstory so now it’s story time. (i’m so sorry lmfao)

about a year ago, i was putting the finishing touches on a paper for an art class… it was the last assignment of the semester and VERY important. also around that time, i had recently discovered the magic of a silly little swimming anime known as Free! and quickly fell into makoharu hell. therefore, at some point i wrote a short little fanfic about them and saved it away on my computer/AO3 never to be thought of again.

the art paper was due at midnight and i finished a tiny bit early by like 10pm, so i sent the document and ran off to make celebratory rainbow cupcakes (they were fuckin rad and i highly recommend)

after my first batch of cakey delights came out of the oven, my phone buzzed and told me i had an email from my professor. “wtf, it’s like 11pm” i asked myself….. but then i read the email and died inside.

it read:

“good evening!

i received your email, but i’m confused. you’d told me that your paper was going to focus on the italian painter taddeo di bartolo, but all i’m seeing is haru and makoto being oblivious to their feelings.

please send the correct document before midnight, thank you.”

SO BASICALLY I DIED AND APOLOGIZED OVER AND OVER AND SENT THE RIGHT PAPER AND SHE EMAILED ME BACK AGAIN AND SAID IT WAS FINE BUT HERE’S THE REAL KICKER:

AT THE VERY END OF HER LAST EMAIL SHE PUT:

“your story was cute but i’m more of a rinharu girl, myself”

AND THAT, ANON, IS THE STORY OF HOW I SENT HORRIBLE MAKOHARU FANFICTION TO MY ART PROFESSOR

Florence & Giles, by John Harding.

This brief horror homage is a bit like one of those unusual appetizers they bring out at froo-froo restaurants. What are they called? Amuse-bouches. It is perhaps not anything that you would like to eat as an entire meal, and maybe not even something that, before that moment, you had contemplating even putting in your mouth, but now that the moment is on you, it’s sort of interesting-looking and hey, it can only last so long, right? And sometimes it turns out to be an aerosolized shellfish on a weird cracker but other times it is a fun little taste vacation.

Which is all to say that I enjoyed Florence & Giles hugely, and I think you should try it, even if you don’t like it, because it really is only a little mouthful and it won’t take long to go down. I read it in four hours, which I highly recommend — do it in a stretch, late at night, preferably a good and windy one and if you can rustle up some thunder, please do — and I found it a fun little gothic taste vacation. The jacket copy promises that it is a Poe-like retelling of the Turn of the Screw, but it has been a very long time since I read either, so I can’t tell you how accurate that is. I suspect my half-rememberings of the latter made it a more agreeable experience than either a full-remembering or a complete lack of exposure. Spoilers are beyond the point, though. I think Florence & Giles would be spoiled by reading it as a whodunit. It is a howdunit and a whydunit and a black-corset-devil-ladies-walking-on-water-dun-it, and if you’re not enjoying the journey, you’re not going to like the outcome, either.

Which brings me to the last point of the review, and the real joy of this particular spooky amuse-bouche: Florence’s narrative voice. In proper gothic fashion, she is a neglected orphan in a big old house empty of anyone except illiterate housekeepers, occluded memories, and dark photo albums full of plot points, and in that #aesthetic environment, she has taught herself to read. Her peculiar usage of words makes for a wry and distinctive path through the story, and that playfulness often creeps over into actual humor. It offers a nice little patch of sunlight through the dusty motes of the funeral-clad narrative, making even the most dreadful of moments a dark delight.

Happy dining.

A Nervous Wreck’s Disabled Guide to Stepping Up
Navigating dis/ability and anxiety in the call to action
By Madison Mahdia Lynn

A really excellent article for those of us who have mental and/or physical disabilities and are feeling overwhelmed by all the calls to action:

It’s very easy to get overwhelmed. With so many actions, so many organizations that need your support, it’s easy to drown in the sea of I SHOULD/I CAN’T and find yourself shocked into inaction. There’s a lot of people who don’t know what to do. There’s a lot of people who are frustrated with accessibility issues surrounding some more common forms of resistance.

A lot of people are asking: how can I help? I’ve weathered a process to figuring out how I can help build community and fight for justice & I’ve gotten pretty good at it, so I’m going to share that process with you. I’m going to breeze through the list of steps, and then describe how I went through them to get where I am today. Okay, great: here we go.

A NERVOUS WRECK’S DISABLED GUIDE TO STEPPING UP:

STEP ZERO: Give yourself a moment to breathe.

STEP ONE: Make a list of what you’re good at.

STEP TWO: Make a list of your limitations.

STEP THREE: Make a list of people and organizations who need support.

STEP FOUR: Make a list of people and organizations you are connected with.

STEP FIVE: Put it all together.

I highly recommend reading the full article on Medium

So I’m playing Ib for the trillionth time, and each time I play, I notice something new that occurs if you backtrack quite often.

Not sure if a post has been done on this before, but I mean… Why not?

If you go back through the whole museum as soon as Garry is added to your party:

Added dialogue for Liars Room, hide and seek room, and you can now get sassed out by that friggen ant. He will also be slapped by the naked lady painting. It made me laugh, and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s just the thought of Garry being like “lol bewbs.”

Also, read all of the artwork in case you get the black key during the second playthrough. (I highly recommend it. More Garry action!) Most paintings have extra Garry dialogue. Psst more Garry = win/win situation.

If you go back as far as possible as soon as Mary joins your party:

You now cannot look through the mirror.  As if Mary didn’t mess up enough, now she cuts you off from Garrys’ face. I was so pissedu.

New conversation about the porno book. This also made me laugh. Probably because such similar situations have happened to me in the past. Cries.

If you also backtrack after the lights turn off on Mary and Ib right before “Separation”, you get new descriptions for what is inside the art boxes. It makes it all nice’n creepy.

Yey well that’s just what I found tonight, and I felt the need to make a post about it. XD But really, the little details added here and there in games like this, are what makes them so enjoyable to play again and again.

Omg so I was wondering if you've written anything about how you think Nico and Will got together in canon, after what we now know from TOA? If not it would be amazing if you could because you characterisation is just!!! phenomenal!! And ty so much for all of your beautiful OCs that I now also consider to be canon haha x

I haven’t done any official fic or anything (although if you want to read a great getting together fic for them I HIGHLY RECOMMEND COURTING DEATH BY MSMAY IT’S MY FAVORITE FIC IN THE WORLD IM SO OBSESSED)

But I have plenty of headcanons. so many.

- it happens slowly

- very, very slowly.

- like okay, Nico has come to terms with himself (as we see at the end of blood of olympus) but he still has a long way to go

- and we, as readers, assume that Will and Nico are at least friends now

- i 10000% think Nico showed up in the infirmary 5x a week, complained and rolled his eyes the entire time, occasionally snapped at a few demigods, but always showed up on time and did the tasks Will asked of him

- they always get a meal or buy a few contraband snacks off the Stolls after Will’s shift and eat it on the Hades cabin’s front steps

- Nico drags Will away from his too-long shifts to eat or nap when he needs it the most

-  Will drags Nico off to the beach or hiking or rock climbing when Nico gets in the worst of his moods (vitamin D and exercise??? it’s a win-win)

- Will totally had to initiate all and every romantic aspect of their early friendship

- “I’ve asked him out four times Lou and he still thinks we’re just bros hanging out” “try sucking his dick he’ll get the message” “cecil where the fuck did you come from”

- i know this isn’t within the TOA timeline but idc?? only a few months have passed since the end of the BOO before TOA right? Anyways, I see there being A LOT more build up/friendship involved. I see at least a year of mutual pining/friendship building in order before they’re the adorable couple we know

- they totally got together during the fourth of july fireworks

- will asked nico to go, was fully intending on making it clear that it was a date and maybe, hopefully get to hold Nico’s hand or something.

- lol as soon as Will clarified that it was a date and that he liked Nico, Nico jumped on him and their first kiss had an audience of Will’s siblings, Lou Ellen, a few Hermes kids, and a handful of sobbing Aphrodite kids taking selfies with the sight in the background.

Fics I Didn’t Know I Needed - March 23,2017

Every now and then, I get in a bit of a spell where I lack motivation and inspiration to write.  When I get into the mindset that nothing I write is good enough/just plain shit, I just like to read, refuel my brain with new ideas and when I read a really good fic that gives me that new inspiration and help me continue the fics in my drafts, I feel so much better about my writing.  I’ve decided that every time I get in this funk, I’m going to share my list of fics that help me get out of it, help me continue my stories and give me new kinds of ideas.  These fics and the people who wrote them are AMAZING and shouldn’t go unnoticed in my eyes, so I’m going to share them.  And to anyone I feature in this post, thank you for your dedication and talents.  You’ve helped me write when I’m down, out of it, or just plain bored with your works.

Without further ado, here my first ever, “Fics I Didn’t Know I Needed”.

Innocent Doctor (Spencer Reid) by @crimindsaspe - Holy shit, this one’s good.  I’ve always liked the idea of Dom!Spencer, and this is just perfect.  The way you describe how he’s different around the team versus the reader is just…  Bravo Shannon.  Bravo.  This was such a turn on (that sounds creepy oops), I can’t wait for more chapters. Part Two

Tale As Old As Time Ch 1: Provincial Life (Spencer Reid) by @beautiful-bau-beau - This is so beautifully written, and I adore the fact that you’re doing a take on the fairytale.  I’m always thinking about putting the characters in another story/situation, but nothing like this.  Absolutely wonderful.  I’m really looking forward to this one!

Long Way Down (Spencer Reid) by @bookofreid - This was equally sad and charming.  The way it’s written gave me chills.  Just some absolutely wonderful writing, the kind of writing anyone would aspire to accomplish.  It’s just plain beautiful.

Dishwasher Safe (Spencer Reid) by @criminal-minds-fanfiction - I read this way back when it was first posted, and I’ve gone back to it and reread it a few times because that’s just how much I love it.  Flustered Spencer is the cutest and Sub!Spencer is everything.  So hot and so good omg.

Penelope and Derek’s Matchmaking Service (Spencer Reid) by @huh-imagine-that - This one is also a bit older, but can I just say, cuteness overload!!!  It’s another one I go back to and just enjoy to read every time.  Just a fluffy little fic for when you’re down, it really helps bring you up!

The Ultimate Test (Spencer Reid) by @hanny-bananny - Oh.  My.  Gosh.  Just so beautiful.  The flow of this is wonderful and amazing.  I wrote one similar to this, but mine I feel hardly compares to yours.  This is the epitome of a beautiful disaster, because it’s sad but the way you wrote it is just too marvelous.  Well done.

Secrets and Lies (Spencer Reid) by @criminal-minds-fanfiction - This is what a call a fan fic.  The idea is new, the story is told incredibly and it’s definitely something you’d go back again and again to binge read.  Scandalous, cute, angsty.  It’s a little bit of everything.  **Bonus:  Help! Not Just Anybody is a continuation, which Cherry has just finished, and binge reading this series has become a regular thing for me.  So, so good.

Becoming Real (Spencer Reid x Luke Alvez) by @dontshootmespence - This one will hit you right in the fucking feels if you’re all about fluffy Spence fics.  Even if you’re not a huge fan of the ship, this is still just plain amazing and 100% worth the read.  I can never get enough of your work, I come back to SO many of your fics, but this one is sooo so good.  Kudos.

So there you have it.  This was the first installment of “Fics I Didn’t Know I Needed”.  These won’t come often, but every time I read a good one or I just can’t get words down or I’m just like ‘hey, I should tell someone about this,’ I’m going to add them to my list.  I highly recommend everyone read all of these and if you aren’t already, follow everyone mentioned because they are all beautiful human beings and they write some amazing things and they all fucking deserve it.

And once again to anyone mentioned, thanks for writing and being awesome inspiration.  It’s fics like these that make it easier to write!

Can we talk about the concept of beginner’s decks? I wanna talk about that.

My first deck was an impulse buy. I’d seen just enough gorgeous pictures of the cards to know deep in my heart place that I needed this deck. Yesterday. But the since the postal system doesn’t work this way, I satisfied my need by watching video reviews of the deck.

I started watching one wherein the deck was given a glowing review by someone who loved working with it, but they went on to say, “Sometimes I find this deck challenging to read with, so I don’t know if I’d recommend it as a first deck.”

Obviously, I panicked. Had I just wasted $40 on a deck that would be too hard to read with? And my panic about it didn’t ease because it was a sentiment I saw repeated in several other reviews of this deck. My fears were unfounded because the deck was a dream to read. Two and a half years later, it’s still one of my favorite decks to work with.

Over these two and a half years, the idea of beginner’s decks is one that I keep seeing, and part of it makes sense to me. A lot of skills and hobbies have optimal entry points or highly recommended beginning toolkits. For someone who’s approaching tarot for the first time to ask for such recommendations seems pretty logical.

The problem is, the only optimal entry to tarot is a deck that you really and truly love. One that you know, deep down in your heart place, that you need. Yesterday. And obviously, that’s going to be different for everyone.

There’s three major styles of tarot deck and they all read differently. To complicate it further, there are decks made around an endless number of themes and imagery within those styles. These decks will all explore similar symbols and messages, but in just wildly different ways.

The two of cups may always be about union, every deck will present that concept in a different context. Someone might look at the traditional RWS deck and not really get the meaning, but then look at the same card in the Homestuck deck and understand it immediately.

There will always be decks that are difficult to read. For me, it’s the Deviant Moon and its Death card. I understand it when it comes up in readings with other decks, but this one always throws me off. It’s a grotesque card that I hate looking at, and this is actually a pretty common opinion. But there’s people out there who really connect with that and have no trouble grasping it in their readings.

With all of that, I don’t understand why this is a concept that others so readily uphold. So, how do you feel about “beginner’s decks”?

I’m not gonna tag anyone but I am genuinely interested in what others think.

It also occurred to me after writing this that I’ve seen decks created specifically with the intent of being easy to approach by new readers, and I think that’s totally cool.

Esselley-senpai, I was wondering if you have any kagehina fic recommendations? But I'm not talking about all time classics, I mean ongoing fics that may go unnoticed. Do you have a fav author that I should check out? Mine is you, of course!!

Aside from my “fic rec” tag (which I add to fairly regularly), here are some series/writers I’ve been wanting to rec! (I don’t tend to read WIPs, sorry T.T)

Countdown series by @byesweetheart [rating: G - E]
A literal must read for KageHina characterization and UNLIMITED SWEETNESS! If you want KageHina cuteness and happiness and some of the best kisses ever, you should check these stories out. Ava also pays so much attention to their character quirks and motivations, and I love reading knowing a lot of thought has gone into the things they’re saying and doing, even in the more, shall we say, heated moments. All her fics are lovely, so in the eventuality that you manage to tear yourself away from Countdown, give the others a go!

Kageyama friendships series by aosav [rating: G - T]
Aosav is one of the most hilarious, wonderful storytellers I’ve had the pleasure to read in awhile. They write Kageyama (and really, everyone) in a way I only wish I could achieve! Their Kageyama friendships series is so delightful. It’s got a very gentle overarching story, but each work is mainly standalone, focusing on Tobio breaking through on communication with individual members of Karasuno. Each fic is heartfelt and deeply satisfying. I actually highly recommend checking out all of their fics, I’ve been devouring them all regardless of pairing/plot/subject matter. Their chapter works are also a lot of fun.

Parisienne Walkways series by @someone-stole-my-shoes [rating: M - E]
I know everyone knows Laura’s fic Routine, BUT, if you’ve read that, and haven’t read the Parisienne Walkways series, what are you doing with your life?! This fic is funny, sweet, warm… but also comes with a heaping helping of intense slow burn, bonding, and sexual discovery at its best, with a very eager, needy Hinata, and one of the hottest (but sweetest) Kageyamas I’ve ever read! Basically, Tobio is a quiet, reclusive figure skater and (surprise!) a sex god – Hinata is fucked. (Literally. Many times.)

It's time

To re read Sansûkh for the 67th time. It is truly a masterpiece and the sheer work and research that has/is going into it is so wonderfully magnificent. I highly recommend it to all my followers. Side note: @queergallifreyan either you read it with me or Im gonna spam you with all my feels

Hi! Im new to being a witch, can you tell me some basics I need to know?

From [this post]:

  • You do not need to be Wiccan or any other kind of religious to practice magic
    • Nor do you need to be any specific gender, sexuality, race, etc.
    • The only thing you really need to be a witch is a desire to be so
  • The term “witch” is gender neutral, but you don’t need to go by that if you don’t want to, there are other alternatives
  • Do a lot of research (it never really stops)
  • Figure out what it is you want to do with magic (everything, only specific types of magic, whether or not you think you might curse, etc.)
    • What you decide for these is not concrete - you are not bound to working with one type of magic if you want to change to something else. What I do is constantly changing
    • On this note, you don’t need a “witchy label” (i.e. sea witch or whatever), these things are just more meant to help other people recognize what sort of magic you practice at a glance - you are also not confined to that label if you decide you want one, you can do other kinds of magic as well
  • Don’t let other people tell you how to do YOUR magic - it’s YOUR craft for a reason; play around, experiment, find what works for you and run with it
    • Sometimes people are just shitty and will tell you you’re doing it wrong no matter what you do - so just kinda be prepared to see that and then promptly ignore it xD
  • See what you already own that you can use within magic, and then find out what you can do with those things
  • Don’t worry about buying “organic,” “fancy,” or “exotic” herbs - you can find the same properties and associations in regular household spices and herbs
    • On that note, if you have a Bulk Barn / Barrel in your area, GET YOUR HERBS FROM THERE. Seriously, Jed and I went to one this past weekend, and they have EVERYTHING. And so cheap!
  • Seriously, you can get a lot of stuff from the dollar store, WalMart, thrift stores - hit these places up if budget is an issue
    • For the longest time all my crystals came from Green Earth, and every single one has worked for what I wanted it to thus far
  • If you don’t care about deities or spirits, just don’t work with them
    • Same thing goes with the astral plane- if you don’t wanna go near it, you don’t need to
  • Practice your fire safety methods
    • SERIOUSLY
    • DO THIS
  • It’s okay if you don’t practice every day, miss the moon phases or sabbats - these are not the things that define a witch, they are just things you CAN do
    • I have never practiced a single sabbat, and I’ve only ever really timed spells once or twice with appropriate moon phases and days of the week, and all my spells have worked just fine
    • It’s seriously okay if things don’t line up perfectly timing wise; it adds a bit of a boost, but not enough to make it or break it
  • Try to have fun with it - magic is not 100% serious all the time, nor does it need to be

Other basics highly depends on what you want to do with magic. I will always recommend [energy work] - because it really is, like, the core of magic imo. Witchcraft is about bending energy and desire to your will to produce effects. In order to do that, you need to know how to work with energy.

From there, it highly depends on what you want to do as a witch, really.

You’re gonna need to do research. You’re going to need to read, look up stuff, fact check, and it’s a good idea to write this stuff down too.

Then, it comes down to experimentation. Take what you’ve learned, and test it out. Try some spells. Try writing some. If it works for you, keep doing it if you want. If it doesn’t, figure out what might have gone wrong and try again.

Here’s some more resources - good stuff. Read a bunch of them.

Good luck!

@onlyyoudear asked: Hi! I was just hoping to get your advice on some raised bed gardening. In the past I’ve done just traditional gardens, but this year am building four 4'x8’ raised beds to hopefully have a more plentiful harvest. I’ve seen everywhere that people say you can plant things closer together in raised beds, but no one says HOW much closer together you can plant things. Do you have any recommendations on this? For instance how close do you think you could plant two indeterminate tomato plants? Thanks so much! Hope your planting adventures get to begin soon!!

Okay, so this is probably going to wind up being rather lengthy, and I apologize for that.  But I have several different suggestions for planting, and you’ll have to test them out to see what works best for you.

If you’re looking to follow “the rules” of garden spacing, I highly recommend looking into square foot gardening.  I’ve found that SF Gardeners follow the playbook pretty closely and swear by it. They have everything covered from plant spacing to soil mixes for the ultimate growing experience.  In other words, someone did their homework.  I’d done some reading into it myself after several gardeners convinced me that it was “The Way”.  And in some aspects, it was.  If you’re working with smaller spaces and want to really cram as much as you can in there, by all means, give it a go.  In my experience, SFG showed me just how closely you can place certain plants (for example, I’d always given peppers more room than they needed and wound up with a lot of wasted space), but for others I felt like it was just too cramped.  Also, if you like clean lines, neat rows, and order in your garden, this might be the plan for you.  I planted a garden two years ago that did not stray from the rules and didn’t care for it overall, so now I use the spacing rules loosely, and focus more on crop rotation and companion planting as my methods of choice.

You’d asked about indeterminate tomatoes.  SFG will have you allow 2 square feet per plant, which sounds completely asinine, and frankly, it is.  Unless you’re going to prune your plants back to force them to stay within this space, it’s just not enough room.  I wound up with a huge mess, more fruit loss than I care to admit, and so much unnecessary work when it came time to take the garden down in the fall.  That’s not to say that SFG failed me, but rather, my pruning theories didn’t match what is required for this type of gardening.  With tomatoes, I feel like you can never give them enough space, but I guess that all depends on how you prune.  Do you remove suckers?  Do you allow the plants to just take over all willy nilly like?

I start off with good intentions and prune in the beginning, but once those plants start taking off and producing fruit, I tend to leave them alone, adding support as the plants get bigger. I fertilize with egg shells, ground dried banana peel, Epsom salts, and a large fish head in the planting hole. This sends the plant into overdrive, making for massive, towering monsters like I’d never seen before, and more fruit than I knew what to do with.  Last year, I had two indeterminate plants in a 4 x 8 bed (okay per SFG rules), and not only did they start growing into one another, but they heaved soil out of the raised bed and began crawling across my mulch path.  This year I’ll plant one tomato plant in that 4 x 8 bed, and maybe pop some basil in there, hoping for the best.

So I guess what I’m getting at is that you can follow the rules that someone else set up, but there are so many variables in each gardener’s space and style that will determine the success or failure of those methods.  I’d mentioned companion planting earlier on, and I really think this is more important than anything else.  You’re looking to plant certain things together, or keep certain plants apart based on their ability to attract or repel insects, prevent disease, etc.  I find that I can ignore the SFG spacing rules on, say, basil planting, and kind of cram them into a space that is shared with tomatoes.  I’ve never had a problem with overcrowding, and aside from the random hornworm invading the space, the basil keeps a lot of other bugs and critters away.  I am guilty of breaking SFG rules and popping lots of flowers into the provided growing space of my veggie garden in the hopes that they will attract pollinators, and have never had a problem with that either.  You could also take into consideration the Native American “Three Sisters” method of pairing, say, beans, corn, and squash planted closely together.  The corn acts as the trellis, allowing the beans to climb up its stalk, and the squash grows beneath them, shading the ground and keeping weeds in check.  This is a traditional method that is proven to be effective.   It’s all trial and error, and you have to figure out what works best for you in your space.

So my short answer is this:  give tomatoes and brassicas as much space as you can afford (or be strict with pruning to keep their size in check), never crowd root veggies, but allow yourself to take liberties with plants like peppers, herbs and climbers (like cukes, beans, peas).  I am guilty of cramming a lot of these things into my growing space, and aside from the few extra minutes I have to give up to ensure that everyone gets watered and weeded sufficiently, the only downside I’ve encountered is difficulty when harvesting.  Densely planted plants hide fruit!  Also remember that you can maximize spacing by growing up via vertical trellising or plant in a triangular pattern instead of squares, which allows you to put at least one more plant in any given space.I really hope this helps!  If any other gardeners want to chime in, I’d love to hear your input!

what are some good places to look into about sigils?

If you are going to look into Sigils, please for the love of all the gods, go to chaos magicians because there is so so so much misinformation about sigils here on tumblr.  I highly recommend the book practical sigil magick by frater UD, you can read and find the book at various places online.

Austin Osman Spare created sigilisation along with chaos magick, you can read his works here
