i have work all day tomorrow

hey guys sorry for the delays, I’ll be updating as soon as I finish these papers today and tomorrow in between streams. (streams will be mostly focusing on my illustration assignments, original graphic novel, character designs for original comics, and UI art for both a website, and my game. )

sorry for the inconvenience, but soon I’ll be spending all of my time working on the last chapter and half this blog, plus a special surprise for you guys being such good sports! :D

I worked as a cinematographer for five years. An old friend asked me to “help” him for a few days with a music video he was directing. On the first day of filming, he revealed that: a) I was the only person he hired, b) he doesn’t own any cameras, and c) he has no knowledge of operating any filmmaking cameras. 

During the filming, he kept brushing off my advice and gave me vague instructions. A few hours later, we took a break.

Me: Do you have anything to eat?

Client: No, I’m not really hungry. Were you working on an empty stomach all along? Dude, you should learn to carry your own snacks. I do that all the time. It’d be good for you.

We were filming at a remote cabin by the lake with no cell reception, so I couldn’t get food. He gave me some of his snacks and told me I eat a lot. After he kept me working much longer than he promised, I told him that I need to leave and pick up the filming the next day. 

Client: You have to go now? I guess that’s fine. But you don’t need your camera until tomorrow, right? You should leave it here. I want to walk around and experiment how my locations will look. I also need to practice filming.

Me: No, I have to take it with me.

Client: Okay, fine. Wow, I guess you’re really attached to your camera! 

He had a way of suggesting my needs were personal faults. I wouldn’t have been surprised if I asked to be paid, and he responded “I guess some people are just caught in the rat race, man!”

this is a masterpost on how to deal with all of your schoolwork during a shitty mental health week. it is important to note that mental illness is a finnicky animal, and that not everyone has the same experiences as far as symptoms and adverse affects are concerned. however, these are all tips/resources that have worked well for me in the past, and i hope that there are at least a few that will work for you as well.

i. look at your schedule for the next day. rally all of your energy do all of the assignments and readings that absolutely must be done by tomorrow. disregard everything else. it can be done another day.

some portion of the stress will be lifted off your shoulders, and you will be able to relax a little bit and focus on things that are more important. If it can be delayed by 24 hours, it is not worth doing the night you are on the verge of a real crisis. i’m not advertising procrastination, but the reality is that we all do it. and i would argue that sometimes it is justified. if you are having a bad enough night where it takes all of your emotional and physical energy just to get through 30 pages of reading, you need to put nonessential things aside for a time when you are feeling more mentally available. your work will be higher quality if you do it this way.

ii. take a shower.

showers (especially hot ones) will help clear your mind, open your sinuses, and relax your muscles. stand/sit under the spray until you feel less tense. even if you’ll be heading straight back to your room to work, you will be more relaxed and levelheaded to tackle the assignments in front of you.

iii. tackle your essential assignments in smaller chunks.

slow down your routine by a few minutes. study in 10-15 minute bursts instead of your usual 20-30. study in your room instead of the library. make a small change that could help boost your focus. however your study schedule may look, slowing everything down can help you accomplish your essential tasks without causing you to burn out before everything is done. it may seem impossible to slow down your already fast paced schedule, but trust me, even making small adjustments can do a lot of positive work.

iv. seek help and support from outside sources if you need it.

study with a group of friends or classmates if you are feeling up to it. this will help with your comprehension of the material, and might help boost your motivation to get through those essential assignments so you can go back to your room and wind down. call your family if that will help you feel better about where you are. if necessary, seek counseling/wellness services on your campus. this information is often posted somewhere on your university’s website. remember that there is absolutely no shame in seeking out therapy and counseling related services! there are also many online resources for mental health you can access as well, if in person counseling is not a viable option for you.

v. remember that you are not a bad student because this is happening. you are not a failure. this is not your fault.

mental illness sucks. it sucks all of your energy and motivation right out of your system. it is brutal. sometimes you will need to take a night off. let yourself do this without punishment. your mental health is important. repeat this mantra to yourself until you believe it. above all, remember that your feelings and struggles will always be valid. keep fighting, i believe in you!

Try to get up early! I know a lot of people who like to sleep in, but I also know some who don’t feel productive if they don’t get up early. Getting up early (and not necessarily super early, maybe one or two hours later than you’d get up for school) on the weekend or on a day off gets you moving and ready to start your day. 

Do some sort of exercise early in the day. It doesn’t have to be intense or a lot, but get moving. It could be anything from an actual workout to just walking to a bookstore or coffeeshop to start your day.

Eat breakfast! If you don’t like getting up early, eating a really good breakfast can make your day. And if you do get up early, you’ll have enough time to actually make something.

Schedule your day. Don’t schedule it down to the last minute, but schedule the big things you need to get done. If you need an alert on your phone or computer to remind you, some good calendars I recommend are: Timepage, Google Calendar, Schoolhub Students(not necessarily a calendar but the best I’ve used for tracking assignments),  and Outlook Calendar(ok so Sunrise was THE BEST calendar app I have ever used but it was discontinued and kind of moved to Outlook).

Write down absolutely everything you need to accomplish. Do this first. It doesn’t matter how big or how small it is, just do it. It might be a pretty long list, and that’s ok. If you have bigger tasks, like writing a paper, break it down further into something like research, brainstorm, thesis, etc. You can further break those down too. The eventual goal is to break down the massive tasks into small, manageable things that you can handle so you don’t feel overwhelmed. 

Prioritize the things you need to do. What I generally tend to do is prioritize the assignments and tests that are coming up first, but if I have a bigger test after them, that can become an equal priority. So for example, if I have a worksheet due first period tomorrow, a quiz fourth period that same day, and a major test two days away, I would do the worksheet first, do about half my studying for the major test, study for the quiz, then finish my studying for the major test. 

Get started on something! Once you’ve got all your ducks in a row, get to work. If music helps you focus, listen to it, or if wearing a comfy sweater helps you destress, wear it. Find what works for you and use it to your advantage. 

Don’t forget to take breaks. Use something to help you time your breaks- I personally like to use forest, but one that I’ve tried and liked is flat tomato. Do something you like during your breaks- your brain needs time to process what you’ve been working on. 

Try to get all of your work done before evening- but if you don’t get it all done, it’s not the end of the world. Use this time for yourself, so watch a good movie, eat dinner, play an instrument, whatever makes you happy. This is your self-care time- you work hard and you deserve it!

3. The girl who drinks coffee when it’s convenient on a day out in a cafe or on a study day, not as a daily drug. The girl who drinks water every day and only drinks water.

4. An unapologetic warrior. The type who doesn’t feel weak for having bottled up emotions and doesn’t feel like a child being teased for everything. The type who is blunt and honest and confident enough to make anyone who questions her question why they ever felt it was ok to do so.

5. The girl who works out 5 times a week no matter what time of year it is or what sport season it is. Working out is for me not for the team. I can be a healthy and active person all year round and lend my commitment to sports when it’s time. 

6. The girl who makes her bed and does one thing every day. A day wasted in bed is a day someone else could have lived better. Someone else always wishes they had the resources and opportunities in my hands and a day wasted in bed dishonors my past and future. 

7. The girl who is hopeful. Hopeful for a better tomorrow every day and hopeful for all of the horrible weighing troubles to ease.

Everyone and their mother has done a version of this story in the last few days, but I got a few requests, so here’s my take!

Your heart sank when you heard his voice crack.

He recovered right away, which you knew he would, but the subtle look of disappointment on his face when the performance ended was obvious to you. He had been rehearsing so long and practicing so hard all week to make sure the performance was perfect; he had even stopped his band more than once to ask if he could redo a certain section because he knew he get it better. The last rehearsal before the show, he had nailed every single note but now, when it was live, he had missed one and you knew he wasn’t happy about it.

The crowd was still ecstatic when he finished and you knew that no one other than Harry was going to care about his voice cracking, but Harry was his own worst critic and you had seen the result of that more than once over the course of your relationship.

There had been a few nights – down in Jamaica – where Harry had come home from a long day at the studio and went straight into the sitting room to continue working on lyrics, even though you were in a bathing suit and preparing to take a dip in the private Jacuzzi outside your apartment.

“Harry, you’ve been at this for hours,” you would say, “Take a break and come swim with me.”

No matter how much you tried to persuade him by wrapping your arms around his shoulders or shoving your scantily clad body into his back or pressing kisses to his neck, he wouldn’t give in.

“M’sorry babe. I need to finish this.”

“I bet all the other guys have gone to bed. You’re going back to the studio tomorrow; I’m sure all the words will be the same by then.”

He would let out a slightly annoyed sigh and turn ever-so-slightly in his chair.

“I’ve been workin’ on this one for days, (Y/N). It needs to be perfect and I can’t get it where I want it.”

You had enjoyed your time with Harry in Jamaica – you really had – but it was nights like that where you worried about his well-being. Harry would work until he collapsed if you let him; that’s why you were happy he had surrounded himself with so many people who weren’t going to let that happen. More than one night, his bandmates had forced him to take a break and go back to the apartment for dinner and to spend some time with you. You hadn’t expected to see Harry all that much while you were down here, but those little moments during the evening were always nice.

Harry was much more worried about his album being perfect than you knew anyone else was, but that was just how Harry operated.

Which is why you knew he wasn’t going to be happy about missing that note.

You punched the elevator down button and lucky for you, it was already stationed on your floor from when you came up earlier. You ran in, hit the lobby button and kept slamming the side of your fist on the Door Close button until you saw the elevator doors start to close. You caught a glimpse of Sebastian’s face as the door closed. You couldn’t read it. You gave yourself a moment to lean against the wall of the elevator and catch your breath. Once the elevator dinged, the door opened and you forced your legs to move underneath you.

19.9.16 // Hey guys!! 👋🏻 Sorry for the lack of posts in the past few days, last week was absolutely hectic. I had a few assignments due and my dreaded Stats test, all while suffering through a terrible virus and going through some stupid boy drama 🙄 Moving forward. I have a two week break now, the entirety of which will be consumed by work and studying. 😢 Here’s a lil’ pic I took in the middle of last week! (I’ll post the full spread tomorrow.)

Your eyes closed, as a breath slipped past your lips. Hearing your husband’s voice over the phone, calling you by his favorite nickname for you…it was a bittersweet moment, honestly.

“Hey,” you replied, trying to keep a strong tone, your eyes closed. “What are you up to?”

“Just getting to the arena,” Finn answered. “You OK?”

“Stressed,” you admitted, knowing it wasn’t worth it to pretend you were anything but. Finn would be able to tell the second you tried lying, and honestly, you just didn’t have the energy to even attempt a façade.
