i have to rewatch this soon

spook-tastic  asked:

I’ve been doing a alta and lok loop and korra is an amazing avatar. She is not aang but that’s perfectly fine bc the things she does the villains she has to face shows how she grows as a person and hell her style of fighting is beautiful. I wanna gif her fights but I never made gifs of fight scenes before also mako and bolin these guys are not some half baked fighters these are pros and their style get smarter, stronger and better. Know anything about gifing fights?

I think I’m going to do a rewatch of the Korra series very soon. Maybe I’ll even put out some commentary posts as well.

But yes, I totally agree that Korra is an amazing Avatar. No she isn’t Aang, but the creators made that intentional and I’m honestly very glad that the two opposite in so many ways. I’ve always just resonated way more with Korra as character (though that isn’t to say that I have anything against Aang - I love him and I think he is a fantastic character). She just feels so real and raw - a person who despite their god-like powers and strength, has deep flaws.

Despite her constant need to identify herself as the Avatar and nothing else, she eventually learns acknowledge her fears instead of running away from them in addition to asking for help and support from other people. It’s quite an amazing character arc and these are a few of the reasons why she’s my favourite character ever (though, Asami is up there too ;) ).

And yes, Bolin and Mako are quite the brotherly duo with their awesome probending moves! It was so great to see Bolin learn how to lavabend after not having any success with metalbending! I’m proud of that guy, he’s so awesome <3

I’ve done quite a bit of giffing before. I typically use photoshop for my edits though (I’m not sure if you have it or not). I used this blog to get used to gif making - I use the same sort of method for scenic shots, character shots and action shots! Maybe there will be something there that will help you out! :D

Thanks for the inbox! Hopefully we’ll get to see some of those fighting gifs too :)

Sheith Music Comparison
S2E1 + S4E1
Sheith Music Comparison

I was watching S4E1 again when something familiar about the hug scene struck me — but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I had to isolate the background music from this episode, as well as “Across the Universe”, and it hit me.

The musical composition of both the campfire scene in S2E1 and the convo between Shiro and Keith before the Hug 2.0 are… very similar.

Both feature an atmospheric, “space ambience” with soft, slowly rhythmic, low-tone notes layered on top.

1) The first audio clip is from the campfire scene in Across the Universe. The notes hit towards the end of their conversation, as Shiro proclaims Keith as his successor, Keith reassures him that he’s gonna be okay, and Shiro gives him one of the softest looks we’ve seen in the whole series.

2) The second audio clip is from S4E1, and is a bit different. The notes kick in the exact moment Shiro places his hand on Keith’s shoulder, after Keith announces that Shiro can now pilot Black again & lead the team. This conversation, while in the public eye, was very much carried between these two at this point. The music crescendos in perfect time with their movements as they go in for the hug–one prominent note when their hands clasp, and one when they embrace. Again, I reiterate: these notes did not initially kick in until Shiro put his hand on Keith’s shoulder.

I’m not saying it might not have been played elsewhere in the series (I’m not gonna rewatch all four seasons to check). But here are a couple of other observations I found as follows:

For instance, Matt & Pidge had space atmosphere, similar piano-esque notes & strings in their reunion. But the notes were a bit different (gradually getting higher, if memory serves correctly) and the strings soon became a central instrument. Therefore, this seems mostly irrelevant to me.

Zarkon and Haggar are characterized by space ambience and strong, slow notes as well, though a little higher-pitched. In the flashback ep, this is noticeable three times: when they meet (though it is VERY faint), when Zarkon is at her bedside, and when they both die with their fingers interlaced.

Do with this info what you will, but I did find it very… interesting.

Curious to see if any moments between them moving forward have similar instruments/tones.

I will protect him.

Scrooge’s Grief for Della Duck (An Essay):

A.K.A. Scrooge McDuck grieves and misses his niece Della, but has tried to bury that pain for the past ten years.

DuckTales handled Scrooge’s grief for Della wonderfully for me.

His grief isn’t apparent like Donald’s, or the consequences of her disappearance aren’t obviously shown as it is with Donald. His overprotectiveness comes from losing his sister.

Scrooge’s a man constantly on guard with his feelings. It’s like pulling  teeth out when it concerns him opening emotionally. He doesn’t want to appear vulnerable, and this is a feature from the comics. Pride and fear keeps his emotions close and under his heart. His hidden grief for Della, or rather her absence, and the subsequent rift it caused in his family, is in-character.

But this could be guilt as well. I have the opinion he may believe he’s responsible for TSPoS incident despite what he tells Donald.

This essay is currently over 2,000 words long, so I understand if you’re not interested in reading. These are my personal observations after rewatching the pilot movie on Youtube (it’s DisneyXD’s official channel), and from my personal readings of Don Rosa and Carl Barks’ comics, which have been a while. I plan to reread Carl Barks as soon as I can as well as catch up with the European comics.

Disney isn’t holding any punches for this show. It was a 23 hour marathon for the pilot movie. Thanks, Disney.

Hi I'm new to anime & I trust and admire u!!! What do u recommend??

Hey there! and yeeesss, i’m so glad you’re gonna give anime a try! there are so many good stories and plots in anime which dont exist in western media so it’s a great mode of entertainment! so as for recs, lemme copy and paste my previous list and update it to answer your question!

Currently watching:

Boku no Hero Academia - it’s a recent anime and it’s really good! i think it’s on course to becoming a really big anime that will last many seasons at this rate. the story is about a world where majority of the inhabitants are heroes cause they have quirks (powers).. and the premise is that the main character doesnt have one but he wants to be a hero so watch and see how the story unfolds!

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures (currently on 2nd arc) - macho anime with an excellent plot! the guys are hot and bara af haha and many of the memes are in japanese so watch the original subbed but if you prefer not to read, the dub isnt bad. it’s very memey but the story is really entertaining and has unpredicable moments

One Punch Man - a parody of a superhero anime. tbh this isnt really binge-watch material cause it’s like a running gag and the story unfolds after episode 5 so i’ve just been watching this during my cardio days in the gym. but it’s really funny and a good anime

Hunter X Hunter - this anime is popular and it’s about hunters. so the beginning has the protagonist wanting to be a hunter and then he meets some fellow hunters along the way. it’s one of the highest rated anime in MyAnimeList (the RottenTomatoes equivalent of the anime world) so yeah check this out!

Recently watched:

  • Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan - it’s the Game of Thrones of anime imo.. like it’s so GOOD.. it will just make you gag after every episode!!! it’s so intense and there are really badass characters. and the plot is really brilliant. like if you think season 1 was like WHAT THE FUCkk.. wait til season 2! this anime is crazy and exciting. not for the faint-hearted tbh cause it can be graphic and disturbing (also dont get attached. they could die!) but yeah, this anime is popular true and some say it’s overrated but that’s because it really deserves all the recognition and success it has for its amazing plot
  • Love Live! School Idol Project - i honestly just watched this like out of curiosity and just for kicks. i was not expecting to love it but after episode 3, i was like wait??? wasnt this anime supposed to be fun?? why am i crying?? so yeah, it’s super good, touching, entertaining and sweet! and the songs are really catchy and good.. TBH this anime is like so gay since there are no men (except Honoka’s dad) so yeah it passes the Bechdel Test with perfect score
  • Love Live! Movie - the conclusion to the anime!
  • Love Live! Sunshine - i watched this like a few months after finishing Love Live! cause i loved the original girls and i was worried i wont like these girls.. but honestly, you will appreciate them. and it’s EVEN GAYER.. and is soo good too!
  • btw tell me who your fave girls/best girls are after watching Love Live and Sunshine. my best girls are Umi Sonoda and Yo Watanabe :>

Anime watched/finished:

  • Kimi no Na Wa - universally lauded and recently released! it’s the best film released in 2016 imo. i swear it’s really next level storytelling
  • Rurouni Kenshin - i think i watched this anime twice/thrice.. It’s so suspenseful. it’s about samurais. and this anime made me interested about Japan’s history. it’s kind of a period drama with amazing fight sequences. and it’s critically acclaimed. it’s my father’s all-time favourite anime
  • Rurouni Kenshin OVA - it’s a prequel. also more violent and tragic than its anime counterpart.. like it’s really different from the series. but it’s so good. you’ll find out how Kenshin got his iconic X mark from here!)
  • Ghost Stories - THE DUB IS A MASTERPIECE! THE SUBBED IS SHIT. TRUST ME. the DUB is the popular one too cause it’s the superiour version. You really have to see this one. the anime bombed in Japan so the english dubbers got all the rights for the anime and they gave the go signal for the dubbers to do whatever the fuck they want and the end result is fucking hilarious. it shits on the Scary Movie Franchise tbh
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica - i swear do not be deceived.. it is a really intense and surprisingly dark anime with excellent plot twists
  • Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - super funny anime. if you need a laugh, this will really lift you up. i watched the first two episodes in sub and dub back to back.. and i can vouch that the voice actors for the English dub are excellent. it’s actually even funnier.. but if you prefer subs, then that’s fine. it’s just the lines are more humorous, expressive and have more variety :) Nozaki’s voice is also attractive in the dub.. it’s still very Nozaki imo. this anime pokes fun at the shoujo manga yet still has romantic elements. it’s mostly comedy though
  • Jigoku Shoujo / Hell Girl - angst, tragedy, philosophical anime analysing humanity’s hatred, need for vengeance, and suffering. Futakomori or the 2nd season is my favourite but it’s worth finishing the entire series. 3rd season is very painful to watch though and you dont have to watch that one tbh if you dont want to lol
  • Yu Yu Hakusho - occult, spirit world, ghosts, and fighting. you most probably have heard of this
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 1st series starring Yugi. iconic!
  • Digimon - can be very intense! better than Pokemon imo
  • Cardcaptor Sakura - this is also suspenseful. like the premise is essentially that Sakura has to catch all the “monsters” that were freed from this book. and it’s up to her to “capture” them and put into cards. magic, fantasy, and beautiful animation
  • Ranma ½ - this was so funny but the ending was disappointing cause it got cancelled apparently.. i really hope this will go out of limbo and give us a proper ending like InuYasha did but i doubt it
  • Danganronpa (murder plot twists, intense and despair-filled storyline. click this to know more about the premise. it’s like Battle Royale meets CSI meets How To Get Away With Murder. btw i highly suggest you play this game (it’s available on Steam) instead of watching the poorly condensed anime. so buy it on steam or you can download it how you like cause it’s one of the best games ever. and if you plan on watching this, there is no Danganronpa 2 anime so yeah just play the first game tbh. here’s a trailer of the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwJeZPMhdUk. if ya dont wanna play the games then you can watch the anime. and after watching this, here’s a link of the playthrough of the 2nd game. it’s super fun, full of plot twists, and interactive)
  • Yuri On Ice - it’s a really cute gay anime. people will argue it isnt and its queerbait but i’m gay and alot of the things which happen are too much for just bros to do so yeah, i believe it’s canon gay or mlm. and i enjoyed it so you watch it and be the judge
  • Blood+ - vampires and sword fighting
  • Ghost In The Shell - it’s a sci-fi movie
  • Yakitate Japan - baking and cooking!
  • Getbackers - still up to debate if the duo are gay but if you google art of them, there have been official art released and it’s so gay lol. but yeah it’s shonen genre and it’s not canon gay
  • Cowboy Bebop - a CLASSIC. the dub is great!!

I don’t remember if i finished these but I watched a lot of episodes enough to recommend it and will rewatch them soon to relieve memories. I’m pretty sure I tuned in though and watched like 80%:

  • Fushigi Yuugi (i think this is shoujo but it has a nice adventure storyline)
  • Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood  (i feel like i actually finished this. idk why my memory is hazy concerning this anime. this is so popular. you should’ve heard of this iconic anime somehow. i watched and tuned in but i don’t remember how or when i stopped)
  • Gundam series (i think i finished the first Gundam and the second)
  • Tsubasa Chronicles (it’s like a spin-off of Cardcaptor Sakura but they’re like all grown up and the plot is different)
  • Naruto
  • One Piece (i watched like the first four seasons)
  • Bleach (i remembered watching until episode 40 omg)
  • Great Teacher Onizuka (this is so funny tbh. i think i watched almost all of it)

Studio Ghibli films I watched:

  • Spirited Away
  • The Wind Rises
  • Ponyo
  • Tales from Earthsea

Anime I plan to watch (many suggested this to me and i plan on watching them so i’ll write them down here) :

  • Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice)
  • Anohana The Flower We Saw That Day
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • Tokyo Ghoul
  • Re: Zero
  • Your Lie in April
  • Shin sekai Yori
  • Gintama
  • More of Makoto Shinkai’s movies like 5 centimetres per second, etc.)
  • More Ghibli films too
  • Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive (after i finish FFXV game im watching this one)
  • Persona 4

Here you go!!!! I know it’s an extensive list. I’ll probably make this a masterpost of anime recs and will update this list, and add more soon. If you have any questions or anything, don’t be shy to message me! :)

[last updated: 15 September 2017]

I just rewatched One Day at a Time and I have four notes.

1) I would die for Elena, Penelope, or Lydia. Or Alex. Or Carmen.

2) I will personally hunt down and kill Leslie Burkowitzs daughter for being so horrible to him, HE DOES NOT DESERVE THIS.

3) Schneider is me. I am also a white idiot who doesn’t know shit but is trying their best and also loves the Alvarez family with all their heart and wants to be with them always.

4) SEASON TWO CANT COME SOON ENOUGH.

Can we just..

Can we just talk about Teen Fucking Titans

This show was amazing, like Teen Titans Go can not live up to the amount of messages and things that Teen Titans taught. Like that shit got super dark and deep at one point.

A few examples

1) The episode that talked about racism

There was an actual episode of Teen Titans that talked about racism and the person being racist was not the usual bad guy/weird looking dude. No the guy being racist was a actual hero. It’s amazing how much this episode taught. It talked about how even the greatest heroes in the world can be the world’s biggest asshole.

What happened was a man named Val Yor, an amazing hero, met the teen titans. Now Starfire is a Tamaranian. When Val Yor learns that, he calls her a ‘Troq’, which is basically a word that insults all Tamaranian’s. Despite Starfire being the cutest thing ever, Val Yor refused to accept her, because she was a Tamaranian.

If that wasn’t even enough, then came the ending.

Now at one point in the episode Starfire saves Val Yor’s ass from dying. She did what ever she could to help. But at the end, Val Yor still called her a Troq. It’s amazing that even though Starfire saved Val Yor, he still insulted her culture or her ‘people’. At the end, when Val Yor leaves in his space ship straight after insulting Tamaranian’s. Starfire says “There is nothing you have done, there will always be people who say mean words because you are different” and if that doesn’t convince you that Starfire is amazing then I don’t know what will.

2) Feeling Replaced

In one episode, Blackfire (Starfire’s sister), comes to visit her. Starfire is extremely happy and all. Until, her friends start liking Blackfire a little bit more than she wants them to. She bonds with each and everyone of them (even Raven) and even got a little too close to Robin. Starfire felt diminished and a little hurt that they would ignore her for Blackfire. But Starfire didn’t feel truly replaced until the Teen Titans asked for Blackfire to join the Teen Titans. Starfire then attempts to run away, feeling like Blackfire would be better than her.

At the end of the episode, Robin confronts Starfire after Blackfire goes to jail. Starfire explains about how everyone seemed to be really enjoying Blackfire and was glad that the truth was figured out before she was replaced. In response to that, Robin denies it. He explains to her that Starfire was a one of a kind girl and that she would never be replaced.

I think this episode explains a lot about feelings of abandoment and that simple things telling someone how they never will be replaced will help them.

3) Fears

Now we all know Raven is a bit hard headed and doesn’t like showing emotions. Now in this episode, the Teen Titans decide to have a movie night. This movie turns out to be a horror movie. After the movie is over all of the Teen Titans show their emotions of being extremely being scared of the movie except for Raven who denies being scared. Later that night, all the Teen Titans are awoken be a sound. The episode continues as the Teen Titans try to find out who is making the sounds, and as they progress one by one, all the teen titans mysteriously start disappearing. All, except Raven. When only Raven is left, a monster attacks her. Raven chants that she is not scared of the monster. But eventually realization dawned on her that she was scared and that was how she defeated the monster. Turns out, the monster was something Raven made with her magic unwillingly because of her fear.

This episode is definitely one of the horror episodes. If it was a real life horror movie, I would have freaked. But anyways, this episode explains so much. It talks about how you shouldn’t be afraid to face you fears and use it to your advantage. So what if you’re scared? That’s completely normal. It talks about taking that fear and not letting it stop you from doing what you want.

4) Puberty

Yes people, Teen Fucking Titans talked about puberty. When I rewatched this episode as a teen, I realized that there was an actual episode that talked about dealing with puberty

Now in this episode, Starfire starts growing weird things around her body. First a large bump forms on her head, then she soon gets scales and her fingernails become long and black and white. If that wasn’t bad enough her feet turn large and start growing hair. Starfire feels extremely self conscious of her self and cover her self up entirely in order to hide her self from her friends because of fear of being laughed at. It all goes to doom when Teen Titans get an alarm for a monster. The entire get up comes off and everyone sees how Starfire looks. Starfire, in a state of panic, fly’s in to space and decides to live at a another planet because she couldn’t face her friends. Problem was each and every planet she went to they would kick her off because they thought she was too scary.

When Starfire lands on one planet, she meets a woman, who explains to her that it’s normal for a Tamaranian to get like this after a certain stage and that each and every Tamaranian goes through a different process. But this woman turns out to be a Tamaranian eater and tries to eat her when the rest of the Teen Titans save her. Starfire does eventually turn back to normal and even gains a new power. The Teen Titans tell her that they would never judge Starfire on the way she looks.

Now this episode explains a lot. This was probably one of my favorite episodes especially because of the fact it talks about how hard it is going through puberty, Not only that but it explains about how everyone goes through it differently and that it’s not your fault. It also tells you that, it may be one hell of a ride and that it’s gonna be tough, but when it’s over good things will come out of it.

5) The First Time They Met

Now I couldn’t get the proper picture I was looking for, but its with Cyborg and Raven. Now this is a iconic moment from the entire and it all started out with the first time all of them met. Now we all know Raven is the daughter of a devil who wants to take over the world, so when she does help the Teen Titans, she doesn’t feel welcome in the group. She feels as though she was different because her main purpose was to destroy the Earth not save it. So when Cyborg learn about this, the famous quote he says is “He’s green, half of me is metal and she’s from outer space, you fit in just fine”. I don’t really need to say much because the quote explains it all.

Language Barriers

Consider if you will, Kaiba staying in Ancient Egypt. Atem doesn’t speak his language any more, because he’s no longer connected in any way with Yugi. Kaiba, learning Atem’s language, from courts and gatherings and conversations in the halls. Atem, a good pharaoh but increasingly restless, who comes up with games for everything, inventing a linguistics game for the two of them, because Kaiba can learn tenses in a moment if it means beating someone. Atem one day getting Kaiba to teach him his language, instead of the other way around. It becoming a back and forth, until they’re using Atem’s language and all the little differences in dialect in court proceedings, and Kaiba’s when they’re together or when they need to speak privately (or when Atem needs to sound particularly intelligent during important meetings with foreign dignitaries). Kaiba becoming proficient enough that the game starts shifting into accents, Kaiba’s is already fairly flawless, if still discernible as foreign (as if his skin didn’t give it away), Atem’s is fine when he concentrates, but drifts when he becomes frustrated, his h’s and r’s rolling, vowels stretched or cut short. Losing does that to him.

Kaiba assuming Atem’s just trying to alleviate his boredom until Atem shifts the game into more difficult areas, now with words that only have meaning for a world he’s no longer part of. ‘What is the word for’ and a description that goes on for minutes, that Kaiba has to pick apart like a riddle, coming back sometimes days later with ‘internet’, ‘milkshake’, ‘migraine’ and ‘RFID chip’.

‘Dimension Cannon’, ‘risk’, ‘explosion’, ‘paradox’, ‘homesick’, ‘please’.

Tyrian's Fate

So, in lieu of what happened in “Punished”, I think I should probably let you guys know what I think will happen to Tyrian. Y’know, since his childish, poetic, and psychopathic nature has made him the best character to grace Volume 4 with his presence.

No, I do not think that Tyrian is going to die.  Will Salem be angry? Yes.  Will Salem punish him?  Yes.  Will the others make fun of him for it?  Hell yes.  After all, he will return empty-handed, disgraced, and crippled, and he’s given away information about Salem herself.  But will she kill him?  No.  Why?  Because he’s the best soldier she’s got.

Let me explain.  Sure, Cinder is the Fall Maiden, and Neo (if she’s still alive) has some mad agility skills, but Tyrian is on a whole new level when it comes to fighting.  From what we’ve seen, Tyrian almost never stops moving.  He’s light on his feet, his balance is incredible, and from what I’ve seen he’s as agile as Qrow.  Now this is all well and good, but there’s one thing that sets Tyrian apart from other really good fighters, and it’s not the venom in his tail.  He’s insanely good at fighting (pun intended)…but he’s blind.

Okay, probably not completely.  But I read that scorpions’ eyes work a lot differently than ours do, and that some of them even use vibrations in the ground to “see.”  So his other senses are vastly enhanced because of that. You can see several things that point to this:

  • Look at his eyes.  Usually RT uses eyes like these to portray very strong emotions (ex: Weiss concentrating when summoning the Knight, Ruby when attacking Roman, Qrow when telling Ruby and the others to stay back, etc).  But they’re never made as small as Tyrian’s.  There are two reasons for this: either he’s on a constant maniacal high (which is very possible) or there is something physically off about them.
  • During the legendary Qrow vs Tyrian fight, there is a moment when Tyrian uses his tail to wrench Qrow’s weapon out of his hand and lodge it in a wall, leaving Qrow defenseless.  Or so Tyrian thought, because before he can do anything else, he gets several fists to the face (fists adorned with metal rings, might I add) and he doesn’t even try to defend himself in any way.  He couldn’t hear them coming.
  • After Qrow punches and kicks Tyrian back a few feet, Tyrian allows Qrow to just waltz over and get his weapon from the wall.  Notice Tyrian’s position at that time: his hand was on the ground and he made a noise of frustration. He was trying to feel the vibrations in the ground but couldn’t because Qrow was out of his range.
  • But when Qrow lays his hand on his weapon, there’s a small metal sound and Tyrian looks up, grinning triumphantly, as if to say “Found you!”
    • If Tyrian is especially good at detecting things through metal sounds, then that could explain why he was so good at deflecting Qrow’s weapon and Ruby’s bullets. Also his “oh sh*t” face when Qrow’s weapon half transformed to get itself out of the wall.
  • Tyrian falls right through a roof when he lands on a wooden rafter that was obviously broken.

So basically, Tyrian is like RWBY’s version of Toph.  Let’s stop and think about that for a while, hm?

But what impressed me even more was that Qrow was able to figure it out, because I didn’t realize it until after I rewatched this fight several times.  I think he made the connection when Tyrian easily dispatched Ren and Nora when they ran in to help.  That’s why he told them not to come closer (it also could have been because he didn’t want them to get caught up in his bad-luck space).

I mean, seriously.  They couldn’t even touch him.  And he didn’t even try.

So yeah, back to the point.  Tyrian’s not dying anytime soon.  I fully support the theory that Salem will give him a Death Stalker stinger to replace his old one.  Josh Grelle, the voice actor behind Tyrian, claims that there’s one final scene that Tyrian’s in (in Volume 4) that will bring with it a whole new level to Tyrian’s insanity.

And he will hopefully be back in Volume 5 for some more crazy fun times.
