i have to have a sense of humour

anonymous asked:

Have you ever seen the robot chicken Star Wars episodes? They are hilarious and always remind me of your awesome cracky humour :P

Yes! And I love that several of those segments are included in the Star Wars (6 episode) saga Blu-Ray box set, too. There’s a whole slew of parodies they put on there and it gives me life that the nerds steering the ship had/have a sense of humor about it. BECAUSE HOW CAN YOU NOT.

I want to have fun. I’m not interested in being a serious actor because I think it’s boring, and I think we’ve got plenty of them. So, I like to do stuff that has a sense of humour, and stuff that doesn’t necessarily take itself too seriously. But equally I’m also now yearning to explore the dark side of life a little bit. The joy of the job is the diversity and the variety – and, if you’re lucky enough, to have the freedom to do different things. I don’t like the idea of a box. It’s nice to kind of defy the idea of a box —- Taron Egerton

How to write a bomb ass personal statement

I’ve had a few asks about how to write - as one of you put it - a bomb ass personal statement. I’m a bit reluctant to write this, seeing as I haven’t actually got an interview/offer yet! But I guess it might be helpful to those of you applying around now :)

HOW TO START

  • Bullet point what you want to include - I suggest listing out what you want to include. It’s a good idea to do this at the beginning, to make sure you don’t leave anything out; and it can help form the basic structure of your statement.
  • Do not start at the start - this is one of the most important things I learnt when writing mine. It is so hard to write that first sentence - so just leave it until the end, and begin writing with the actual content, something you’re more comfortable writing about.
  • When you do get down to writing that first sentence - do not start with a cheesy quote or the typical “I have always bee passionate about…” as these are things that can immediately put off an admissions tutor. Try and be original, or just simple: “I want to study X because…”

THE CONTENT

  • Just keep writing - don’t worry about the 4,000 character and 47 line limits. Literally just write, and keep going, even if you think what you’re writing is bad - just get all your ideas out there, and put down everything you would want to include. It’s so much easier to take things out rather than adding things in. My personal statement was around 8,000 characters at one point!`
  • Get the balance right - different unis want different things from personal statements, so check their websites to make sure you’re getting in what they want. You need to get the balance of intellectual curiosity/passion for the subject with your personal qualities and extra-curriculars.
  • Back up everything with evidence - don’t just say you are great at working in a team, give examples that demonstrate that you have worked well in successful teams in the past. What to include?

WHAT TO INCLUDE

  • Why you want to study that particular course
  • Why you are the right person to study the course
  • Extra things you have done to show commitment or interest about the course - volunteering, subscriptions to journals, further reading etc.
  • Any relevant work experience
  • Any relevant awards you’ve won (e.g. maths challenge or physics olympiad) or responsibilities within the school (e.g. prefect or house captain)
  • Demonstrate desirable skills for your course - problem solving, teamwork, leadership etc.

WHAT NOT TO INCLUDE

  • Cliches - like “Ever since I was born I have wanted to study…”
  • Quotes - this is a personal statement, so don’t start quoting other people! Plus way too many people do this to make it original.
  • Jokes - it may be that the person reading your statement has a very different sense of humour than you do.
  • Really long sentences - you want your personal statement to be as easy as possible to read, and long confusing sentences won’t help that.
  • Repetition - it’s such a short document, you don’t have space for this. Plus it gets boring!
  • Names of unis - the unis you apply to have no idea where else you have applied, so don’t name any of them in your statement.

THE ENDING

  • Do not end on a cheesy quote or joke. Just sum up why you’d be a great candidate and reinforce what you have told them throughout the main body of the statement - that you’re fabulous!
  • Once you have finished a draft you can start trying to cut down on the word count. Maybe ask a teacher to look at your spelling/grammar, and you can always get your friends’ opinions too, on what should come out, and what should be kept in. Make sure you don’t let other people have too much influence - it has to be a personal statement!
Mofftiss Explain

“It’s the gayest story on the history of television.”

“We all certainly saw it as a love story.”

“They are absolutely made for each other.”

“I think it’s important that kids watching television see themselves on screen.”

“To hell with deferred pleasure.”

“I don’t know. I’m just in it.”

“It’s groundbreaking.”

“If we pull this off, it’ll be television history!”

“Insane wish fulfillment.”

“Culmination of everything we’ve been working for.”

“Shattering climax.”

“Love conquers all.”

“The real version airs tonight.”

 ———————————————————————————————————-

“What do you think, then, Doctor Watson? There’s another bedroom upstairs if you’ll be needing two bedrooms.”

“Might we expect a happy announcement by the end of the week?”

“Anything on the menu, whatever you want, free. On the house, for you and for your date.”

“Girlfriend? No, not really my area.”

“So you’ve got a boyfriend then?”

“Right. Okay. You’re unattached. Like me. Fine. Good.”

“Actually, I’ve, er, got a date.”

“That’s what I was suggesting.”

“Sherlock’s business seems to be booming since you and he became … pals.”

“He’s not gay. Why d’you have to spoil …? He’s not.”

“With that level of personal grooming?”

“Because he puts a bit of product in his hair? I put product in my hair.”

“If you don’t stop prying, I’ll burn you. I’ll burn the heart out of you.”

“I have been reliably informed that I don’t have one.”

“We both know that’s not quite true.”

“You, ripping my clothes off in a darkened swimming pool. People might talk.”

“Somebody loves you.”

“I don’t think John knows where to look.”

“No, I think he knows exactly where. I’m not sure about you.”

“Are you jealous?”

“We’re not a couple.”

“Yes you are.”

“I imagine John Watson thinks love’s a mystery to me but the chemistry is incredibly simple, and very destructive.”

“Listen, what I said before, John. I meant it. I don’t have friends. I’ve just got one.”

“I know you’re for real.”

“Your friends will die if you don’t.”

“John.”

“There’s stuff that you wanted to say … but didn’t say it.”

“Say it now.”

“No. Sorry. I can’t.”

“Yeah. We’re getting married … well, I’m gonna ask, anyway.”

“So soon after Sherlock?”

“Well, yes.”

“What’s his name?”

“It’s a woman.”

“A woman?!”

“Yes, of course it’s a woman.”

“You really have moved on, haven’t you?”

“One Word, Sherlock. That is all I would have needed. One word to let me know that you were alive.”

“Why indeed, John?”

“I prefer my doctors clean-shaven.”

“Yeah, well, be careful what you wish for. If I hadn’t come back, you wouldn’t be standing there and … you’d still have a future … with Mary.”

“She was probably right, really. I remember she left early. I mean, who leaves a wedding early? So sad.”

“No, it is! It is, and I want to be up there with the two people that I love and care about most in the world.”

“Neither of us were the first, you know.”

“So know this: today you sit between the woman you have made your wife and the man you have saved – in short, the two people who love you most in all this world.”

“Oscillation on the pavement always means there’s a love affair.”

“And of course I have to mention the elephant in the room.”

“Why would he be scared that we’re getting married?”

“No! No! Not you! Not you! You. It’s always you. John Watson, you keep me right.”

“Mr Holmes, you and I are similar, I think.”

“Yes, I think we are.”

“There’s a proper time to die, isn’t there?”

“Of course there is.”

“And one should embrace it when it comes – like a soldier.”

“Of course one should, but not at John’s wedding. We wouldn’t do that, would we – you and me? We would never do that to John Watson.”

“John Watson is definitely in danger.”

“I know what kind of man you are … but we could have been friends.”

“Because you chose her.”

“Th-the clients – that’s all you are now, Mary. You’re a client. This is where you sit and talk … and this is where we sit and listen, then we decide if we want you or not.”

“But look how you care about John Watson. Your damsel in distress.”

“And Sherlock’s pressure point is his best friend, John Watson.”

“John, there’s something … I should say; I-I’ve meant to say always and then never have. Since it’s unlikely we’ll ever meet again, I might as well say it now.”

“We’re not naming our daughter after you.”

“I think it could work.”

“Mrs Hudson, there is a woman in my sitting room! Is it intentional?”

“You have an impish sense of humour which currently you’re deploying to ease a degree of personal anguish. You have recently married a man of a seemingly kindly disposition who has now abandoned you for an unsavoury companion of dubious morals.”

“Holmes, against absolutely no opposition whatsoever, I am your closest friend.”

“Why do you need to be alone?”

“No, those are my words, not yours! That is the version of you that I present to the public: the brain without a heart; the calculating machine. I write all of that, Holmes, and the readers lap it up, but I do not believe it. … You are a living, breathing man. You’ve lived a life; you have a past. … Damn it, Holmes, you are flesh and blood. You have feelings. You have … you must have … impulses.”

“There’s always two of us.”

“Urgh. Why don’t you two just elope, for God’s sake?”

“Perhaps I was being a little fanciful … but perhaps such things could come to pass. In any case, I know I would be very much at home in such a world. … I beg to differ. But then I’ve always known I was a man out of his time.”

“Romantic entanglement would complete you as a human being.”

“The man we both love.”

“I wanted more. I still do.”

Why Larimar could be the Lapidot fusion

For day three of Lapidot Anniversary Week (prompt: “fusion”), I’m going to be doing some theorising about why I now believe that Larimar will be the Lapidot fusion, based on the properties of the stone and its usage in crystal healing.

(Source:  w w w . crystalvaults . com / crystal-encyclopedia / larimar – please remove the spaces, I’ve written it like this due to issues with posts not appearing in the tags if they contain external links)

“Larimar is the embodiment of the tranquil Sea and Sky energies”

This immediately reminds me of both Lapis and Peridot.  Lapis, of course, has complete control of the sea and she can fly – and Peridot can also fly when she has her limb enhancers (as well as being the pilot of the Hand Ship in Jailbreak).

“It brings the ancient wisdom of Atlantis”

Hi, Peridot!

“Larimar is one of the cardinal Water element stones, yet is born of Fire in its volcanic origins”

The fact that Larimar has volcanic origins is extremely interesting when you consider that real-life Peridot can be formed in the earth’s mantle (along with Peridotite) – which is something that Peridot herself mentioned in Gem Drill!  We also have the connection to water again as well, making it have relevance to Lapis too.

“Larimar cools tempers and calms fears, relieves stress…”

“Larimar is a crystal of serenity, promoting relaxation in every aspect”

“Larimar is a powerful emotional cleanser and healer, especially for phobias, panic attacks, stress-related imbalances, and excessive anger or fear”

“It helps us moderate aggressiveness and deal with rage”

So, it could greatly benefit both Lapis and Peridot.  They’ve both had more than their fair share of stress and fear, and are both prone to exhibiting very bad tempers and/or aggressive behaviour at times (with Peridot’s explosive tantrums, and Lapis’ brooding and often unforgiving rage).

“The more intense the blue and contrast within the [Larimar] stone, the rarer and higher its value”

This jumps out at me for the fact that this principle also applies to real-life Lapis Lazuli.  Incidentally, Lapis in the show also has a Gem that’s pure blue (as opposed to having any pyrite/calcite inclusions)…

“Larimar is a wonderful stone for mothers”

If you interpret Pumpkin as being the Lapidot “child”, then this certainly takes on some relevancy! Especially considering Peridot’s comment in Gem Harvest about missing the “pitter-patter of full-sized Gem soldiers” (a reference to the expression “hearing the pitter-patter of tiny feet”, which is used when talking about people who are imminently going to have a child) when explaining why she and Lapis decided to grow their field of vegetables in the first place.

“As a soothing Water element stone, Larimar cools hot tempers and guides excessive passion into peace”

Peridot has generally become much calmer since being around Lapis, and seems much more settled nowadays.  Her passionate side is still there, but it’s very much being used for good and peaceful activities nowadays (such as “meep morp” and vegetable-growing).  Could a fusion into Larimar with Lapis help to further calm her, then?

“Larimar is an excellent stone for finding a soulmate”

As Peridot and Lapis barely leave each others’ side, I don’t feel like this point needs any explanation.

“It facilitates the healing of unresolved issues or fears, trauma to the heart, or past-life relationships”

I like the idea that Larimar can help with trauma – considering that Lapis has had a very traumatic life and would appear to be suffering from PTSD and depression as a result of this.  I know the article here is referring to “past-life” relationships, but it could still hold some relevance when you consider the living nightmare in Lapis’ past that was Malachite.

“Larimar assists in identifying self-imposed limitations and self-sabotaging behavior, especially toward martyrdom, and encourages taking control of one’s life. It is particularly useful in admitting guilt, when guilty, and in bringing about a sense of peace in truthfulness.”

Lapis started to express real guilt for her past actions in Alone At Sea (one such action, of course, was effectively martyring herself in order to protect Steven from Jasper - but deliberately hurting Jasper in the process).  There’s a lot of horror in her past that she still needs a helping hand to cope with.  Likewise, I believe that Peridot is also burdened with a lot of guilt for some of her past actions; which is something that she appears to be bottling up.

Therefore, fusing into Larimar could help them both to make peace with themselves and begin to let go of their pasts.

“It aids in breaking down the walls one has built around the heart for defense, and allows for emotional release and the clearing of deep emotional patterns. It helps one to reconnect to a previous, more natural state of playfulness and joyful childlike energy”

I feel like this also has a lot of relevancy.

Again, Peridot is bottling a lot of things up – and quite often, Lapis appears to be putting up a front in order to hide her inner turmoil.  The pair of them do have a lot of playful energy at times, so Larimar could encourage (and completely embody) this.

“It emanates vivaciousness, humor, and a sense of one’s own power”

Peridot is the definition of vivacious!  She and Lapis also have a shared sense of humour (as seen in Gem Harvest, in particular) – and Lapis wields an insurmountable power over water.

“Light blue crystals [such as Larimar] help us accept the life we have, develop patience, reconcile differences, or seek forgiveness. They’re excellent for recovery efforts from addictions or destructive patterns, aid in curbing tempers, and help us become more dependable and cheerful. Light blue crystals also assist in dealing with grief, letting go of the past, and curing guilt”

I really think that this speaks for itself.

“[It] tempers excess, restores calm after a storm, relieves stress, and neutralizes extremes”

This scene in particular was both a metaphorical and literal “calm after the storm”.

“Larimar also utilizes … a fresh, welcome energy that moves us to serenity as new growth and life emerges. It brings hope, discovery and balance”

Much like Lapis and Peridot having a fresh start on Earth, discovering this wonderful new planet together… and even creating new life together.

You guys MUST give us more details about the proposal(s) - How Stiles proposed and how Derek was planning to propose. Please and thank you <3

“Son, you need to calm down.”

Stiles paused in his pacing to spin on his heel, arms flailing, and fixed his father with a wide-eyed stare.

“Calm down?” His voice hitched, “Calm down? You told me he’s going to propose, dad. That’s- that’s huge.”

John raised one hand in a sort of placating gesture, “Now, I never said-”

“You implied it,” Stiles was vaguely aware that his hands were shaking as he dialled Derek’s number, for the third time in the span of a minute. A frustrated noise died in his throat when it went straight to voicemail, again.

“Stiles, I don’t get why you’re making such a big deal out of this,” John stabbed another piece of lettuce with his plastic fork, and pulled a face as if it had personally offended him. “This tastes like nothing.”

“Eat your goddamn salad,” Stiles muttered, eyes fixed on his screen as he typed out a string of texts. Badly punctuated, slightly hysterical texts.

“Not until you sit down and tell me what the issue is, here,” John tilted his head meaningfully towards the chair across from him, “I don’t want you having a panic attack.”

Stiles slumped into the seat, reluctant, and bit at his thumb. He narrowed his eyes at his left knee, which kept bobbing up and down as his leg twitched.

“What’s the problem, Stiles?”

I was the one who was supposed to propose first, okay?” the words left his mouth faster than he could think of them, a little louder than he’d intended. At his father’s questioning look, he took a deep breath and continued, “In theory. I mean, I didn’t see it happening for another year or two.”

“So you think it’s too soon.”

“Not necessarily, no- it’s just…” Stiles exhaled heavily, ran unsteady fingers through his hair, “maybe. Maybe it is. That’s the problem- I’m not sure. Do you really think we’re ready for this?”

“I know that you and Derek love each other,” the Sheriff’s brow was furrowed, “There isn’t any doubt there, right?”

“None at all,” Stiles said- immediately, reflexively. “It’s just that…God, I don’t know.” he groaned and dropped his head into his hands.

“Didn’t you have any doubts before you proposed to mom?” he asked quietly, through his fingers.

“Of course I did,” his dad’s response was soft, “How could I not? She was an amazing woman and I still wasn’t entirely convinced I deserved her. But…” Stiles lifted his head in time to see his dad shrug. “It’s normal to have doubts, son.”

The sound that escaped Stiles was helpless: “Derek’s not perfect, but neither am I. I’m kind of obnoxious and I talk too much and–  and at the end of the day, I’m just kinda an anxious mess, dad. I still have the nightmares, like, weekly. Should anyone really have to put up with that?

“And- and Derek has his own issues, but at the end of the day I’ve actually seen that he’s the sweetest goofball of a man and I love him so much and he’s probably got some huge romantic gesture planned that I could never top but, goddammit, I really wanted to propose to him first-”

“I’m going to stop you there,” his dad levelled him with a look, “Just tell him, Stiles.”

“What- tell him what?” Stiles muttered to his knees.

“Everything you just told me.”

“But I-”

“Go to him, tell him these things, and- goddammit, Stiles- just propose to him, if you want to propose.”

“I. I don’t have a ring, though-”

Go.” His father jabbed a finger towards the door.

Stiles shot up from his chair and was out of the office within the minute.

John dumped his salad in the trash.

The front porch of the Hale house made one hell of a noise when you walked on it- Stiles knew this, because he was physically incapable of walking around quietly (unlike certain werewolves that he knew). Currently, it was kicking up one hell of a protest as he stomped towards the front door, floorboards whining under his sneakers; not that he cared, not that he really registered the sound over the rushing in his ears. His heart was in his throat and his mind was running a mile a minute and he needed to remind himself to breathe.

Stiles took a shuddery breath and flung the door open. It hit the inside wall with a bang.

I was going to propose first, asshole!”

Okay, maybe not the best way he could have phrased that. He’d have to try again.

Derek, who seemed to be in the middle of assembling some kind of furniture, fumbled and dropped the screwdriver in his hands (goddammit, Derek never fumbled, what the hell). He turned to face Stiles; his ridiculous puppy eyes were wide and his eyebrows were doing the thing.

“Stiles, what-”

“You know what.” Stiles stalked across the room, gripped the front of Derek’s henley with his fists. “You were going to propose tomorrow, weren’t you?”

“I-” Derek looked crestfallen, suddenly, eyes shifting to the side as he said, “I’m sorry? I-”

“No, shut up and listen to me,” Stiles’ voice was low, intense, as he leaned closer and made Derek look him in the eye.

“I love you so much, Derek. So freaking much it scares me.” He loosened his grip a fraction, smoothed down the wrinkles in Derek’s shirt with one hand, “I love how you have this sense of humour that you only really share with me. I love the little crinkles around your eyes when you smile. I actually kind of love when you’re grumpy, too.

“I like it when you don’t shave and you get stubble burn all over me. I like that you’re actually, like, friends with my dad,” Stiles laughed, “I. I still have no idea how that happened, actually.”

Derek grabbed onto the hand that Stiles kept running down his shirt, lacing their fingers together,“Stiles–”

“No, I’m not done. So, yeah, sometimes we have our differences, like when you argue that a bald cupcake most definitely is a muffin-”
“But it is-”

“Shut up, it’s not.” He pressed his fingers to Derek’s lips, and Derek’s eyebrows shot up. “I’m trying to tell you that I love our differences. I love that we can argue and it can still be fun.”

Derek’s lips twitched, like he was fighting a smile.

Stiles lowered his eyes and went on,  “And…and I love that you’ll wake me up from my nightmares, help me count my fingers and calm down- and I just. I–” he shook his head, “I’m being cheesy, now, or whatever, I know– but you probably had something three times as romantic as this planned, so.”

Derek stared at him for a minute, gaze soft. He pressed a kiss to Stiles’ fingers, and Stiles lowered his hand.

“May I speak now?” Derek murmured.

“Just,” Stiles threw his hands up, “Will you marry me or not, you dork?”

Derek swept him- literally swept him into his arms, his feet left the floor- into what could only be described as a bruising kiss. Stiles made a soft, desperate noise and clutched at Derek’s shoulders, raised one hand and slid it along Derek’s jaw. Derek bit at his lower lip, licked into his mouth, and Stiles groaned and arched into him, seeking the warmth, craving the intensity. Gradually, the kiss slowed- became something softer, sweeter. Stiles pulled back reluctantly to take a breath, and Derek mouthed at his jaw.

“That’s a yes, right?” Stiles asked, on an exhale.

Derek buried his face in Stiles’ neck and laughed.

“You’re ridiculous,” Derek’s lips moved against his throat- soft, familiar. “Of course I’ll marry you.”

Stiles grinned so hard it hurt, and ran his fingers through Derek’s hair, “Good. Wanna put me down, now?”

“Nah,” Derek nipped at him playfully, “Think I wanna carry you upstairs.”

“Oh, good idea, yes. The best idea.” He hit at Derek’s shoulder, “Go, what are you waiting for.”

It didn’t take them very long to get to the bedroom.

((hope this was okay, anon <3))

Metempsychosis

And yet by death did life procure.

Various of theories are justificatory weaved in regards to our existence—that we either originated from a spiritual entity or created by a grand phenomenon. In the circumstance of a unique individual, he was produced by both; stars run in his veins for he is the embodiment of the galaxies, ethereal in every way. An enigma, some would say, yet was he truly a complex being? For the span of four hundred years, he had witnessed all that history could offer, but there was an uncomplicated reason for his melancholy: where was his moon? Where was his sun and stars, the one who was his celestial beloved? Surely, he was not meant to roam alone.

Or was he?
