I Don’t Mean It Pt 6

Previous Parts: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5

All the stress had taken a toll on your health and sadly, your body could no longer take it. Your colleagues had found you passed out in the hallway at work and that was when you finally decided to take a few days off. After deciding to leave Taehyung’s life, you were overwhelmed with how much you would be losing.

You wanted to slowly ease out of his life. And you knew that once you gave him up, you had to give the rest of them up too. They had grown to be like your second family, and it broke your heart everytime you thought that they probably didn’t feel the same way about you.

But when you saw Taehyung’s texts, anger somewhat bubbled up in you. He’s the one who didn’t want anything to do with you, so why did he care if you were suddenly sick? And who was he to get mad again? You clearly didn’t do anything this time around.

You decided to face him once he came back home. You figured it would bring you the closure you both needed, seeing as he clearly had something left to say to you.

The boys kept assuring you that they would come see you once they were back in town, but you almost dreaded the day they came back, knowing that it might be the last day you got to see them.

“You can do this Y/N” you told yourself over and over as the days passed by. You didn’t know when exactly they were coming back as their schedule was never really set in stone. As each day passed, you felt more confident that you didn’t need them. But one night your doorbell rang, and your heart sank. It was time.

A/N: thanks for waiting for part 6! Who wants part 7? Also, I think for part 7, I’m not going to have any texts, hope thats ok?? PLEASE let me know what you think of that.

"DID I STUTTER"

Setting: 5e, we are a group of do-gooders that represent the vast and conquering Empire that took in our abstract and not-so-common-via-race peoples. We are representatives of them as well.

We are currently going into deep and twisty stone caves and labyrinths to save a group of nobles and passengers who were mysteriously abducted by a random earth cult. We have come to an end with three rows of cells that contain some of these prisoners. Down a hallway nearby is a guard room that contains two half-Orcs and an actual Orc.

Goliath fighter (me): I don’t care about that hallway, I charge into the room with the cells and start beating down the doors to free the prisoners!

DM: The guards are beginning to stir and asking what is going on outside (unaware of our presence.)

Our raccoon gunslinger (yes, a literal raccoon who walks on two feet, who is also an actual child): I roll deception to name drop (some important name we heard earlier) and tell the guards we were meant to be here and to stay inside their room.

DM: Okay roll.

Raccoon’s player: *rolls a 19*

DM: The guards begin to peek out of the door to see who said that to see a raccoon standing in the hallway.

Our characters continue to free the people, which causes the orcs to stir and start to come out of the room.

Raccoon’s player, bellowing: “Stay in your room!”

DM: Roll an intimidate check.

Raccoon’s player: *natural 20* *bellowing voice* “DID I STUTTER?!”

DM: The 7-foot-something tall orcs, still peeking out, are now confused and also terrified. The Orc takes the door and slowly closes it shut.

Me, the Goliath fighter’s player who actually has training in intimidate: “WAT”

Are you overcomplicating astral travel?

Here’s the thing: By far the most common question I get from people is “how do I astral?” Which is, well, a big question. It begs other questions, like:

>Why do you want to travel

>WHERE do you want to travel

>Do you have jobs you need to do over there or are you gonna hang out

etc etc

But here’s the thing: Often people decide to travel, and then they get stuck. They try a method they maybe heard about once, and it doesn’t work, so maybe they research another method. Maybe they pick up a book on the topic, maybe the book tells them “you’ll know you’re astral traveling when you can rise out of your body and see it on your bed.”

BOOM. Imma stop you for a minute.

There it is. This is the moment the Gold Standard™ for the new person gets set in stone. The mind now says “If I’m not hovering above my body with full range of vision, I’m not Traveling, with a capital T.”

So now we have this goal. The person may feel a little more confident because there is a road map in front of them, and that map may have steps, often detailed by a book author, or maybe even a blogger here on tumblr. Maybe the person tries the steps, and fails. Maybe it takes months. Maybe it takes years, but eventually, maybe the person gets frustrated, and they give up.

“I just can’t travel”, they say, truly discouraged, or “I’m just not meant for this, if I was, I would have been hovering outside my body by now.” They maybe pack up the books and leave it be.

Perhaps you see people on tumblr or blogs that talk about full blown OBE or extreme situations, and then you internalize THEIR gold standard, and then you fail to achieve the standard. Same situation applies.

Imma stop you right here. What happened?

  1. Person decided they wanted to travel
  2. Person researched or was told what “authentic” travel looks like
  3. Person attempted to reach the “authentic” standard
  4. Person failed, and then
  5. Assumed they were not meant to travel, due to their failure to reach “Authentic Travel”.

BUT

Here’s the secret, my bros:

1. There is no one form of “authentic” astral travel. You will find this is an epidemic with older books on the astral, when astral “travel” or astral living was equated on a wide scale with your classic OBE, or Out Of Body Experience. So in reality, what many people are trying to achieve, when they want to travel, is an OBE. Based on what books/people tell them. But that is FAR from the only way to astral–in my case, for example, I’ve never achieved full OBE–and not for lack of years of trying. (Because I thought that was How One Astral Traveled)

1-A. THERE ARE MANY FORMS OF ASTRALING BESIDES “TRAVEL”. I don’t travel because I lead an astral double-life–I “tune in”. An OBE is wrong for my circumstances, and if I would have learned that sooner, it would have helped me a lot. There are people that astral-trip only in dreams! People that astral-trip only while DAYDREAMING! People that mentally trip but never leave awareness of their body, people who can’t “see” anything there but hear everything perfectly, people who can only see the astral in black and white, people without a “form” or a body, people with only a bizarre pinprick field of vision! HONESTLY IT’S ENDLESS. Learn your style!

2. Because there is no one form of “authentic” astraling–there is no ONE WAY to achieve the travel! If you fail at going OBE, there may be a perfectly good reason you aren’t suited to that route! The failure here also lies on authors and books that imply there IS one way of authentic travel, and therefore, the user is set up for a failure situation a lot of the time. (And for example, OBE LEAVES your body open for attack or walk-ins in a lot of cases–did you ever think this was your natural energy defense system preventing you from leaving yourself a shell?)

3. Your way of travel is probably NOT going to match someone else’s, so you absolutely need to drop the gold standard now. I am NOT telling you to give up on discernment, because that will keep you alive when you reach the astral. I am telling you that if you have lofty expectations of what the astral is going to be like for you based on someone you’ve read (including me!) you need to drop it before you go, because it’s likely to fuck you up. I have listened to hundreds of different astral experiences, and I co-run the astral atlas–it’s all remarkably different for each individual based on your needs and jobs.

4. Your ideas of the astral are probably going to get blown out of the water when you get there anyway. Know this. Expect it. It will constantly surprise you and remind you that this isn’t In Your Head, and in doing so it will shatter your ideas of what it is, over and over again.

5. Stop complicating things. If I had a nickel for every time person that came to me and asked why they can’t astral, and I gave them the idea of “Well, did you try opening a door?” and then the look of revelation descended, I’d be rich. This is not a blame on you, because I don’t blame you for this over-complication thing. We’re humans, we like to complicate everything, it makes us happy and whatnot. It makes me almost tremendously happy to shroud things in pomp and circumstance. But seriously–have you tried opening a door? Like. Visualize a door, and then open it, and then walk through. That’s how I first got to the astral.

After weeks of trying and doing all this complex shit, eventually I was told to visualize a door, and walk through. And then I was fucking there.

(Can you imagine how pissed I was, though. Like wtf I WAS TOLD MY ENTRANCE WAS TO BE GRANDIOSE AND MAGNIFICENT, not a fucking shitty wooden-ass door with nobody around to see me. Harumph, I said. I ended up in an empty field in fuck-all nowhere, if you wanted to know.)

I’m not saying it’s always easy to get to the astral. It has ways of keeping you out (or in) inside mental spaces or white rooms until you’re ready to be out on your own. This is where discernment and patience come in. But I AM saying if you find yourself failing over and over again at this thing, ask: Is it because you have an unconscious Gold Standard? Analyze why. And then, let it go. Because it’s not going to help you, it’s just going to make you anxious and perpetuate the failure cycle, trust me. And then ask: Am I overcomplicating my approach/expectations because of my gold standard? Analyze that, let it go.

Then, try an amazingly simple thing like opening a door, and stop cutting yourself off at the pass, and just let it happen.

You might be surprised at the results.

(This post is aimed at people who a) WANT to astral and b) have a hard time doing so for unknown reasons. It is not suggesting everyone should astral if they don’t want to or have no interest, if that wasn’t self-evident.)

bindingfenrir  asked:

Are there any symbols used specifically for Loki with historical proof?

Velkomin(n), vinur minn,
(Welcome, my friend,)

Archaeological records are not exactly my forte, but it does not seem that there are any symbols that were explicitly used for Loki (at least out of those that have turned up in the archaeological record, that is). By that I mean that there are a few possible depictions of Loki (especially of his binding story), but it does not seem that there was a symbol worn in honor of Loki quite like  there was for Thor with Mjölnir. Furthermore, most of the examples that I have located, and that I am going to share with you momentarily, have room for debate in regards to their intended subject matter. Even so, many of these depictions of Loki come fairly late in the Viking Age, after Loki’s image had begun to intertwine with that of the Christian devil.(1)

THE GOSFORTH CROSS:

THIS EXAMPLE YIELDS the most secure depiction of Loki, at least out of the examples that I was able to locate. Yet, even so, this depiction is on a Christian cross. Although containing a substantial amount mythological scenery, they “appear to have been deliberately chosen because they can be presented in accordance with Christian teaching also.”(2) This may be troublesome for people looking for a symbol to ‘revive’ in Loki’s name. Furthermore, even though depicting an older tale, it is generally considered to be a negative tale from a pro-Loki perspective.

Here is the image of a bound Loki on this cross (I have rotated the image):

Here is the tale from the Prose Edda that this portion of the cross presents:

“Now Loki was captured without quarter and taken to a certain cave. Then they took three stone slabs and set them on the edge and knocked a hole in each slab. Then Loki’s sons Vali and Nari or Narfi were fetched. The Æsir turned Vali into the form of a wolf and he tore his brother Narfi to pieces. Then the Æsir took his guts and bound Loki with them across the three stones — one under his shoulders, one under his loins, the third under the backs of his knees — and these bounds turned to iron. Then Skadi got a poisonous snake and fixed it up over him so that the poison would drip from the snake into his face. But his wife Sigyn stands next to him holding a basin under the drops of poison. And when the basin is full she goes and pours away the poison, but in the meantime the poison drips into his face. Then he jerks away so hard that the whole earth shakes. That is what you call an earthquake. There he will lie in bonds until Ragnarok.”(3)

In the image above, all of these details can be seen depicted in a carved from. Loki is shown bound in three places, a snake is above his head, and his loving wife stands beside him holding a basin. The Gosforth Cross is considered to be among the “oldest remaining monuments from the Norse colonies in north-western England,” and is roughly dated to approximately 930–950 (although this dating may now be an outdated claim).(4) A.B. Cook has interpreted this scene, in a fairly middle-grounded approach, as being a parallel between Christian and ‘pagan’ tales, whereby Loki being bound is equated to Satan being bound.(5) This is not to say that Loki is a naturally demonic figure, but rather to explain Loki’s presence on a Christian cross. Regardless of purpose, this image does indeed come from a pre-Christian tale about Loki, and thus is a fairly secure representation of Loki in a historical, visual context.

THE KIRKBY STEPHEN STONE:

THIS EXAMPLE holds room for debate. Some scholars align it with the imagery expressed in the Gosforth Stone, that the bounded figure presented here, likely the Devil, simultaneously invokes a sort of ‘pagan’ imagery that associates it with Loki. Yet, more recent studies have suggested otherwise. John Mckinnell, for example, agrees with Bailey that this “iconography has nothing in common with that on the Gosforth cross nor with such pictures of the bound Satan as those in the manuscript of Junius 11.”(6) Given the inherit insecurity of this example, then, it is most definitely not as secure of a depiction of Loki as scholars had previously thought it to be. Furthermore, it is more likely that this is not Loki, then, but rather a more straightforward depiction of Satan. Still, it is worth including, for it serves as a good example for just how troublesome deciphering these images can truly be.

THE SNAPTUN STONE:

PERHAPS MORE SATISFYING is the Snaptun stone, which was found in Denmark, unlike the previous examples which were found in England. This stone, dating to around 1000 CE (still near the end of the Viking Age), features a face that has a pair of lips with four perpendicular lines etched through it. It is this physical trait that has linked the image to Loki, for Loki’s lips were stitched in a tale recounted in the Prose Edda:

“But when Brook tried to catch him (Loki), he was far out of reach. Loki had some shoes with which he could run across the sky and sea. Then the dwarf (Brokk) told Thor to catch him, and he did so. Then the dwarf was going to cut off Loki’s head, but Loki said that the head was his but not the neck. Then the dwarf got a thong and a knife and tried to pierce holes in Loki’s lips and was going to stitch up his mouth, but the knife would not cut. Then he said it would be better if his brother Awl was there, and as soon as he spoke his name the awl was there, and it pierced his lips. He stitched the lips together, and tore the edges off. The throng that Loki’s mouth was stitched up with is called Vartari.”(7)

And here is an image of the stone itself:

This stone has been identified as a hearth stone, and thus would have had a function associated with fire within the household.(8) Interestingly enough, if this stone was indeed used for the purpose of maintaining a hearth’s fire, its very function would reflect the story from which the reference to Loki may derive. Brokk, after all, was a dwarf and smith — a dealer in fire. This is my own conjecture, but it is worth pondering, nonetheless.

LESS SECURE POSSIBILITIES:

THERE ARE A FEW OTHER OBJECTS worth mentioning here, although they are most definitely not concrete examples of symbols used for Loki by any means. Many people will see what they want to see, so we must take delicate care in interpreting them. The following objects are often reproduced as pendants. Some people already associate these images with Loki, although there is no proof of this being the case. Interpret these as you will, but keep in mind the insecurity that is inherently bound to these images.

The first of these is often called the Gripping Beast Pendant, and there are several variations of these. The one shown below is in the Borre-style, and it dates to roughly the tenth century. It was made in Scandinavia, but found in England. Some people have associated this with Loki’s binding story, which we have recounted above. It is possible that this is an abstract representation of that story, but there are no direct indicators (such as Sigyn and her basin) to make this interpretation more secure. The safest interpretation is that this pendant represents a tangled beast, and not necessarily Loki, especially since intertwining animal motifs are quite common in Scandinavian art.

Here is the description of this object from the British Museum:

“Cast silver open-work pendant with a a Borre-style design of a gripping beast inside a frame further decorated with four protruding animal heads. Suspension loop with central ridge and double median groove. The back of the pendant is undecorated. Small areas of gilding and niello are in evidence on the surface of the pendant.”(9)

Other examples are equally insecure and even have multiple interpretations associated with them. There is a ‘mask’ from Gnezdovo that dates to roughly the tenth century, but some say it could be Odin. It bares similar resemblance to the Snaptun Stone, but there are no stitched lips, which was the only solid ‘evidence’ for it to be Loki in the first place. There is also a winged figure that was found at Uppåkra (Sweden) from the same century, but some believe it may be depicting Völund the Smith,(10) although others have suggested that it could be Loki borrowing Freyja’s falcon ‘dress’, which has been told in the Prose Edda (and in the Poetic Edda, of course):

“Being filled with terror, he (Loki) said he would go in search of Idunn in Giantland if Freyja would lend him a falcon shape of hers. And when he got the falcon shape he flew north to Giantland and arrive one day at giant Thjassi’s; he was out at sea in a boat, but Idunn was at home alone. Loki turned her into a nut and held her in his claws and flew as fast as he could. When Thjassi got home and found Idunn was not there he got his eagle shape and flew after Loki and caused a storm-wind by his flying. And when the Æsir saw the falcon flying with the nut and where the eagle was flying, they went out under Asgard and brought there loads of wood-shavings, and when the falcon flew in over the fortification, it let itself drop down by the wall of the fortification. Then the Æsir set fire to the wood-shavings and the eagle was unable to stop when it missed the falcon. Then the eagle’s feathers caught fire and his flight was ended. The the Æsir were close by and killed the giant Thjassi within the As-gates, and this killing is greatly renowned.”(11)

Depending on how well-known this story was, it is possible that this object could have been made to reference it. Yet, no matter the likelihood, there is always room for doubt. Although I personally am not as familiar with his story, it still seems more likely, and more agreed upon, that this is Völund the Smith, and not Loki. Here is an image of this object, nonetheless:

ARCHAEOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION seems to be a bit of a challenge, especially when there are not always definite physical indicators to work from. It does not help, of course, that I am not a socialist in archaeology by any means. I am far more familiar with literature. Besides, Loki’s physical appearance can vary tremendously; he is, after all, a shapeshifter. He could appear in numerous forms without us necessarily being able to recognize the subtle hints right away (even then, who decides that we are correct in our assumptions anyway?).

To answer your original question, then, there are very few historical representations of Loki with absolute proof; there is always some sort of doubt. Many of these images can, however, be used to build upon. History only provides us with what survives, but, in working with those fragments, new efforts can be made within reason. Meaning is distributed by society (and even the individual), and meanings can change over time. Being historically responsible, though, means making sure that we know the original intention behind a work of art. It would be irresponsible, historically speaking, to project a new interpretation upon an image that was never meant to have such meaning. In short, it is quite difficult work to be confident in our effort to find historical representations of Loki.

I hope my answer has been helpful, although it is definitely not my strongest. There is definitely plenty of room for more academic work in learning more about historical representations of Loki, but such an area is just not my personal destination. If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to send them my way. I would be more than happy to continue discussing this topic with you, if you’d like.

Með vinsemd og virðingu,
(With friendliness and respect,)
Fjörn

How to Ask Tarot Questions

Hi lovelies! I’ve been meaning to write this for a while now. I’ll start by saying this. For me, Tarot reading isn’t “fortune telling” in a sense that what the cards tell you is set in stone. The future is constantly changing depending on the decisions we make right now in every moment. But some people fail to realize that and ask questions that are dis-empowering. And as your Tarot reader, my job is to help lift you up to your highest. I want to give you a road map to help navigate your problems and situations. Not let your problems and situations navigate you. So here’s a few tips on how to ask questions of the Tarot.

1) Don’t ask a question if you don’t want an honest answer.

This is really important. If the Tarot is anything, it’s honest. The Tarot is like that friend or family member you go to who gives you no-nonsense advice. Really think about the question you’re about to ask. If there’s a chance it might hurt your feelings and you’re not ready for that then simply don’t ask.

2) Ask open ended questions.

What’s an open ended question? Something that can be answered with more than a “yes” or a “no”. Yes/no questions are very limited and to be honest, quite boring. I know that when you go to a Tarot reading, you want as much information as possible. So why limit yourself to a simple question? For example: “Will my boyfriend leave me?”. I pull your card and give you a vague answer that points to a maybe. But instead you ask “What can I do to strengthen my relationship?” Now, even with one card, I can give you advice and guidance that will help you be happier and have a healthier relationship. Which brings me to my next point…

3) Avoid asking about other people’s feelings.

I know I know! You really want to know if he likes you, right? Or you want to know if your boss thinks you’re doing a good job. Or anything else involving another person.  Here’s the thing. When you ask a Tarot reader about the feelings of another individual, it’s not only spying on them but it’s that much harder for us because the person you’re asking about isn’t physically involved in the equation. We aren’t mind readers. And we don’t have permission to enter the thoughts of someone else. So instead, keep the questions about yourself. “How can I approach him to show him that I’m interested?” “What can I do to further impress my boss?” You might think that asking about how someone else feels will bring you comfort. But it usually doesn’t. If anything, it keeps you waiting around for them to take action when you can  take action yourself.

4) What the Tarot says is not set in stone.

I know I already mentioned this in the intro but I wanted to elaborate further. Basically the Tarot works like this: You ask a question about your future. The answer isn’t “This is totally and completely gonna happen and there’s nothing you can do about it so just suck it up and deal with it!” It’s more like “If you keep doing what you’re doing ‘this’ might happen. If you change what you’re doing 'that’ might happen. You decide.” This goes for good and bad situations. Your future is the clay and you are the artist. Make of it what you please! Don’t let anyone or anything, INCLUDING the Tarot tell you your final outcomes. That’s all up to you.

Use the Tarot to your advantage. There are 78 beautifully illustrated cards ready and waiting to help guide you along your path. Why skim the surface when you can dive deep? You hold the power to get everything and anything you want. Think of the Tarot not as “fortune telling” but as a means to help you get there.

Self Conclusion

This is slightly AU in that Jughead and Betty don’t talk in high school. They aren’t dating and never have. They don’t talk to one another. All incidents with Betty’s family (Polly being pregnant, etc) and Jughead’s Dad (being in jail) have happened. Inspired by Self Conclusion by The Spill Canvas, Liability by Lorde and Intertwined by Dodie.

Chapter One

In between the towns of Riverdale and Greendale, just beyond Sweetwater River, is a bank of cliffs. The further you climb, the higher they get. There’s even a fence to deter people from going to the top.

Betty had been coming here for months. She climbed under the fence, the setting sun and heavy mist sending a shiver down her spine. She slowly dropped down to the ground, scooting her legs over the edge. The dirt and gravel stuck to her clammy palms, but she barely noticed. She was here almost every day, the same thoughts racing through her mind - j u m p.

Betty sighed to herself and reached behind her back, feeling for a rock. She felt a flat, smooth stone in her palm. She felt the weight, tossing it in her palm before winding up and throwing it with all her might over the precipice.

She heard footsteps against gravel in the distance, getting louder and louder with each passing moment. Her heart hammered in her chest as she scooted away from the edge of the cliff.

She was dusting the dirt from her jeans as she came face-to-face with Jughead Jones. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw her. He held her gaze for a moment before widening his eyes, trying to make her uncomfortable.

“What are you doing here?” He blurted.

“Just looking at the view,” Betty shrugged.

“What view? It’s foggy as fuck.” As if to make Jughead’s point, fat drops of rain started to fall, making the stone darker where it landed. “I have definitive plans here and just because you’re here doesn’t mean I’m going to change them.”

It took Betty a moment before she realized what he meant - he was here for the same reason as she, except he seemed set on following through with his plan.

He was dressed simply, jeans and a t-shirt with an S emblazoned on it, a jean jacket and a pair of converse. She realized, looking at him, that his usual beanie and suspenders were missing. Whenever she saw him in the halls, he was never without them.

“You’re in my way, blondie.”

“I’m not moving. Y-you can’t jump.” Betty steeled herself as best she could against the chilly, damp air. She needed to stand her ground just in case he did anything.

Jughead scoffed and rolled his eyes. She could see him eyeing the cliff behind her, the rocks, the mist and fog surrounding them.

“What do you care? You don’t even know me.” He said, looking her dead in the eye. It was a challenge.

“I know, but I’d like to change that. Give me a chance to change that?” Betty cocked an eyebrow.

Jughead shook his head. “Just like that, huh? Are you trying to take on a project? You’ll walk down the cliffs until we’re on solid ground and turn tail and run just like everyone else. Just let me get this over with.”

“No, it’s not like that. I used to see you with Archie. I… I heard about your dad. I’d truly like to get to know you, Jughead.”

Jughead stood with his arms crossed over his chest.

“I mean, won’t you miss…” She trailed off. How was she supposed to list reasons why he should stay alive when moments before he arrived, she was contemplating the same thing he was about to do? “Won’t you miss milkshakes and french fries and sunrises? That feeling you get when you watch a new movie for the first time and you just feel how great it is deep in your soul? When you wake up from an amazing night’s sleep? Biting into a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie?”

“Wow,” Jughead laughed. It was a humorless, empty sound. “You make it sound so easy to be alive, Betty, but let me save you the trouble - I’m already dead inside. None of those things are worth staying for.”

Betty bit her lip. She couldn’t let this happen. “Trust me, I know how badly you want to do this. But… but what if instead of jumping, you stay with me. Stay here with me, we won’t go our separate ways once we walk down to solid ground.”

“What do you mean?” Jughead’s eyebrows knit in conclusion.

“My family’s gone for the weekend. Come and stay with me and I’ll prove to you why it’s not worth doing this.” What the hell was she saying? How was she going to prove it to him?

“You make it sound so easy. It’s not like I’ll spend a few hours with you and I’ll be cured.” Jughead shoved his hands deeper into his jean pockets. The rain was picking up, making him wish more than anything he hadn’t left his hat at home.

“I know you won’t be cured. But, if we can get you to re-think this, there’s hope. We can get help. Get-get you help.” Betty dug at the gravel with the toe of her shoe. She only looked down for a second - her eyes snapped back to Jughead as soon as he made the slightest of movements. “Plus, it’ll be for more than a few hours. Give me a few days.”

Jughead sighed. “Look, this really isn’t -”

“Give me seventy-two hours, Jughead.”

He snorted. “Twenty-four.”

“Sixty.”

“Look, I could stand here and try and convince you, or you could come home with me and we could get warm. Give me forty-eight hours, Jughead.”

“Okay, fine, I’ll play along. I’ll give you forty-eight hours to try and convince me, but Christ, you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. I’ll come back and fucking fling myself off this cliff, and -”

Betty steeled herself against the rain, pounding down against them now. She was facing Jughead, her back toward the edge of the cliff. Fog hung thickly around them.

“Why are you doing this, anyway? Why do you care? You could pretend you were never up here.”

“Because I know what you’re going through.” Betty crossed her arms tightly against her chest. “Minutes before you got here, I was going to jump, too.”

Jughead’s hardened exterior softened, his tight-knit eyebrows and permanent frown changing into something almost sympathetic. He didn’t say a word.

She extended her hand toward him, rain rolling down her cheek. “What do you say, Jughead? My house?”

He nodded ever so slightly, taking her hand and leading her away from the cliff’s edge.

Do you have a favorite guide? something like "Story Plotting for Idiots" type thing? I think I'm pretty well read in terms of lit and movies and such. But I'm at a loss as to where to start to start working on my own. I have TONS of ideas, always have, but the organizing of something longer than say, 500 words always gets bogged down. HALP?

I guess the closest thing to a favourite writing guide that i have is Stephen King’s On Writing, though there’s less ‘this is how to do writing’ and more ‘this is how Stephen King does writing’. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you think of it, there’s no single way to approach writing that is going to work for everyone, it’s all very subjective and personal.

Even going from one project to another, sometimes the same approach won’t work, it’s a matter of what works for you at that moment, for that project.

You can google ‘how to write’ and you’ll come up with dozens of ‘foolproof’ guides and approaches, ‘save the cat’ or ‘the snowflake method’ or a dozen other things. Some of them will have elements that will be helpful to you, and you should feel free to cherrypick what you need and discard the rest – these approaches are written by people for whom they’ve worked. If it doesn’t work for you don’t agonise over it, just move on, try another approach. Keep on plugging.

That said, the one approach that I’ve consistently been able to use and have work for me, is a very blunt approach. Similar to Stephen King’s ‘write three pages a day every day’, and sort of inspired by the whole NaNoWriMo approach to writing, “BICHAK” (Butt in chair, hands on keyboard).

I call it ‘tippy tappy’.

What I do, is I have my ‘outline’ – which is usually a single sentence describing what will happen in a scene, plus a couple of sentences about the emotional/ conflict outcomes that should come from that scene – and then I sit down, set a fifteen minute timer, and just type until the buzzer goes.

So long as you keep tippy tappying on the keyboard for the whole amount of time, you’ll have something to show for it. One scene at a time, one fifteen minute chunk at a time, and that’s pretty much the only way I get anything substantial done.

Now as to HOW to plot?

I seldom know exactly how my story is going to go, or how exactly it will end. I’ve talked about a Problem based approach to narrative, and I start with that, generally. Here is a Problem that is going to affect the characters, who are these people and how are they going to react to it, what is going to happen in their lives as a result of the problem?

I’ll use my current project as an example, I’m about 4000 words in, it will probably wind up being around 60-80k by the time it’s finished. My outline so far encompasses the first two chapters. At the moment I don’t know exactly what the antagonist is going to do, but I do know how to lead up to it.

My outline looks like this:

[Sorry about the blurring, I just wanted to show how I have it laid out without folks reading my awful notes!]

So I have an A4 notepad, ruled with a line down the middle, just for personal preference. In blue headings and green notes, I have my outline for chapter one. I’ve finished all but the last scene in chapter one, and I’m at 4000 words in the manuscript, so you can see it’s a fairly compact way to outline.

The black heading and red notes is for chapter two. It also just happens that I’m writing from alternating perspectives between my two protagonists, so the different colours helps keep those two POVs distinct. I may or may not write a chapter or two from the antagonist’s perspective at some point, and when it gets to that I might pick a third colour set to write those in, depending on how complex my notes are to look at.

When outlining, the main thing that needs to happen is that you have to be able to tell at a glance what you’re up to and what you wanted to happen next. I quite often get into trouble because I’ll start writing an outline and then wind up accidentally writing on my outlining page, I get so caught up in details that I forget the longer-term goals that I set out intending to write down.

Using bullet points to keep outlines manageable is something else that I’ve found helps. Keeping things simple ‘Jack wants X but he’s conflicted about Y and that leads to trouble with Z’. These are just the notes to remind yourself of the path you’re going to take. And if you find a path that branches off in a direction you didn’t expect, but it looks more exciting? Take the branching path. Keep your old notes in case it leads to a dead end, but after wandering around you’re going to have more material to work with, and more material is always good.

No writing is wasted.

I have TONS of ideas, always have, but the organizing of something longer than say, 500 words always gets bogged down

Okay, having tons of ideas is a way better problem than having not enough ideas, so we can work with this. 500 words is a great starting point.

  • Pick your favourite ideas that you think will fit together.
  • Decide what you think the big Problem of the story is going to be, what do your characters need to resolve in order to have an ending?
  • In one sentence, write down what will happen in the first scene
  • In 1-3 sentences, write down how the main character will feel about it, what changes for them in the course of that scene, and what they want going forward.
  • Do the same for the next two or three scenes.
  • Sit down at your writing implement of choice (computer, notebook, stone tablet, etc)
  • Set a timer. You can start with ten minutes and work your way up. Sometimes I do 20 minute or 30 minute stretches, but mostly I find that 15 minutes works best for me, personally.
  • Close all windows except for your writing project, pause netflix, turn the tv off. Have your outline beside you.
  • Start the timer and until it goes off you’re either writing, or you’re staring at the blank page. Trust me, writing is a whole lot better than looking at a blank page.
  • Keep writing. Tippy tappy.
  • When the timer goes off, go get a drink, walk around. Look at facebook or scroll tumblr, whatever you want to do.
  • Repeat until you have a novel.

Essentially, whatever system you pick can only take you so far, no matter how you organise it, writing a novel is a whole lot of just sitting down and writing. One letter after another until you have 80k words. Tippy tappy.

I find that not worrying too much about the whole novel helps. I just focus on the next 5000 words. I know what will happen in the next 5k, and I can write 500 words and then 500 words and then 500 words, and it adds up.

The overarching Problem of the story keeps the gist of the scenes pointing in the right direction, and having the open-endedness of the plot as a whole means that if I suddenly discover a new direction as I’m writing I don’t have a whole bunch of outline work that I suddenly feel like I’m abandoning or losing.

Figuring out what outlining method works for you is going to take trial and effort, but you’ll get there. One scene at a time, one paragraph at a time. Every little bit will help you learn what you’re doing and what you want to do.

Just wondering whether you think that 5.20 etc was planned or something they decided to do because of fan reaction? Thanks!

(I’m guessing by your use of ‘etc’ that you’re referring to Olicity’s progression?)

Not a chance. Hell no. The reunion has been 100% set in stone since before they broke up. @louiseblue1 and @jbuffyangel have explained it so well in the past, much better than I’m about to.

HOW they decided to do it, they figured out between May and August 2016, with a few addendum’s made by 5.05 was filmed. When they knew the time they wanted them to reunite (as in, at the end of a season)? Roughly when they filmed 4.16. I know there are some people who disagree, but I know the truth.

Want facts first?

Bullet point answers coming up:

-  The script for 5.19 was written before 5.14 even aired – which means they’d figured it out before the ruckus that episode 15 inspired.

-  They’ve known all season how much we dislike the LI’s: they still went ahead with them.

-  Before writing scripts for a season, they must first plan the season. Good novelists and fanfiction authors do the same for a story they know will last a while (I don’t and I suffer for it). They don’t have enough time to change things on the spot later on or mess about with the plot because of their tight schedule, which is why they write scripts for episodes that are roughly 4 episodes ahead of the ones being filmed. And then they have to make sure the episodes work with the narrative flows of the season. Advanced prep.

-  When 5.05 aired (an episode that was filmed before episode 1 aired), WM & MG both admitted that they wanted to explore Oliver and Felicity apart from each other for a bit FIRST. First. It implies that it isn’t forever. Just long enough for realisations to set in. And to drive the fandom insane.

-  Before the season started no one said they were over. Yet by season 2’s end and before season 3’s air date, WM was saying said that Oliver wouldn’t be getting back with LL or Sara because their relationships were based on the past and would never last. SA specifically said NO.

-  WM & MG have also said this season that there were a few stories they had left that they ONLY do if Oliver and Felicity weren’t together. It was the truth. Such as explore them with other people and see those relationships fail for a fundamental reason. As well as delving into Felicity’s changes and Oliver’s sin. His darkness. Facing himself. To find themselves before they can find each other.

-  This season was THE one where they could throw Olicity utterly through the blender as they explored other avenues. We didn’t have to like it but it has been implied enough times for us to know that it’s because once these two idiots get together, it’ll stick. Even through bad times. With many seasons to come - like Stephen said - they could afford to slow down.

-  Dig asked a question in episode 1 regarding Olicity that has yet to be answered because like each season there is something in the first episode that gets answered in the last. It hasn’t always been a question. It’s a device used to show progression, whether for good or bad.

(Now there are many themes and questions, I’m just picking one for each) Season 1: it delves right into making us wonder who Oliver Queen is, what his mission is and why. Who he’s become. And what it might cost. It ends with a man who is a survivor but not a hero, a man who tried and failed and the cost? Tommy.

Season 2: Can he be a hero in trying a different way? Answer: yes.

Season 3: It’s more of a choice than a question: The Arrow or Oliver Queen.

Season 4: Can Oliver and Felicity be together both romantically and professionally? Does Oliver have what it takes to be the light? Both answers are ‘not yet’. They’re both under a schism.

Season 5: is Felicity going to be part of Oliver’s future and can Oliver overcome what’s been hurting him for so long? Yes and yes.

With Felicity’s help.

It’s a question posed and meant to be answered by 5.23.

-  MG recently said in a tumblr answer that he and the writers view Olicity as much more than just a romance and that it was a very good thing. And it is: it means not only will they pay attention to them as a couple, they’ll give credence to the people they are. Who they’ve become. Felicity’s had more story this year than Laurel did season 1. They’re exploring her personality, whereas LL got thrown a bunch of cases to try and fail at solving and got passed around 2 men. In fact, in each season, Felicity’s story builds. THIS year, the show has explored Oliver more than anyone else but it was always with the goal in mind of truly making him a legend: the GA. This show has always been about him.

I just mentioned Laurel and season 1…

This season, in some ways, is like a fix-it. At least, it is for me. And I promise this ties into the question :)

In season 1, Oliver tried to honour his father and did so by taking his book of names of the members and associates of Tempest and making it a list of marks to hunt, intimidate, coerce or kill. To try and make Starling better this way.

Evil begets evil.

His main love interest was LL, who he’d betrayed; however, he spent the season trying – to a fashion – to find compatibility from a woman with the man he had become.

Helena was the connective thread to his darker side searching for redemption.

Mckenna was his desire for some normalcy: an ordinary, functional but caring relationship.

Laurel was his need to heal the past; to go back in time and once again be the man he used to be, the one everyone missed, the man who hadn’t made a dumbass decision that ended in death, terror and loss.

A man who couldn’t love Laurel because he was no longer the man she fell in love with. That man died in the ocean.

(To anyone who doesn’t like what I’ve just written, please re-watch episode 8: Oliver says this to a version of LL. An episode were he sees people he’s lost and feels guilt over loosing, the people he needs to leave behind because they’re haunting him. The people he couldn’t save because he wasn’t who they thought he was.)

A man who wasn’t a dutiful son. Or the amazing boyfriend who hadn’t slept around behind LL’s back. And he wasn’t Ollie. He’d never be Ollie again except to his sister. It takes 2 seasons for him to figure that out.

Right before the end of season 1, he gets the girl, aims to save the city and declares that - once he’s finished - maybe he won’t need to fight anymore.

By 1.23 he’s lost his best friend, any last chance with LL by CHOICE not circumstance, this is important, he doesn’t save the city and his mother is arrested.

What should have happened after season 1 – I’m going to focus particularly on LL – if a) Oliver wasn’t as damaged as we’ve found him out to be in season 5 and b) if KC as LL had worked, is this:

LL would have found out Oliver’s secret at the end of season 1. After Tommy’s death they would have slept other but he still would have left.

Oliver and LL would have spent up to, roughly, episode 14 of S2 being apart until they couldn’t take it anymore. Instead of sleeping with Sara, it would have been Laurel.

They’d be on and off throughout until the end of S3.

Instead of spending the whole of S2 being an addict and recovering: LL would have also been using boxing or martial arts etc to try to kick her habit and vent some of her anger and guilt at Tommy’s death. She would have become a definite target for Slade and there would have been more than one episode covering this. By the end of the season, Oliver would have started training her. Personally.

In its place, we got an LL who spent an entire season – this is going to sound super harsh - feeling sorry for herself and blaming everyone else but herself for her problems. I know that sounds bad but, she drank and popped pills to take away her pain because it was too much for her. THAT’S FINE. THAT’S UDNERSTANDABLE.

What isn’t fine, is making damn sure that whoever’s with her feels just as bad, if not worse, than she does.

Because she doesn’t just feel guilty, she feels entitled to pass judgement. As if her pain gives her a free pass. It gives no one else on the show a free pass so this isn’t a facet the audience can like.

The last time she does it is with Oliver: that argument in the hallway after she’s just hurt her father, mother, sister and ex all in one go. After she blamed Sara – like she did Oliver – for ‘ruining’ her life. For making every bad decision and every wrong turn shes made, the fault of someone else.

That’s when a character being an addict loses sympathy. The addict part isn’t a problem. It’s how the character affects the people around them. She improves afterwards but, that mark stays with her.

We accepted Thea’s drinking and substance abuse, even if she irritated us, even if she was horribly immature with it; it was understandable and acceptable. She was a teenager lashing out at the world. But they deliberately didn’t push too far with it. They did with LL. They being the writers etc.

They make her into a vigilante for her sister with some ‘I care about Oliver even though I disagree with everything he says and have become a vigilante for SARA yet - when it suits me – also because Ollie’s one too and if he can do it - even though I disagree with everything he does – then so can I’ thrown in.

Season 5 resembles this movement… but it twists it on its head and mends what was broken.

Oliver has resorted back to killing criminals, to being very much the vigilante of season 1. He’s in love with Felicity but can’t be with her because he’s hurt her terribly and there’s something fundamental that hasn’t mended. That hasn’t been fixed. Something in him.

Noticed the similarity with season 1?

He spends the season unconsciously working from the viewpoint that he is someone who infects others. Someone who killed his own happiness and didn’t save the people he cared for.

Tommy, his mother, his father, Laurel etc… Felicity’s presence by his side. She closed off her heart to him and that’s his fault.

But he tries, like in season 1, to build something. He – at Felicity’s behest – builds a bigger team. He tries to be the politician Star City deserves. He tries to move on and date. He tries not to succumb to the monster he was the year before he returned home. He tries to atone and move forwards.

Professionally he mostly succeeds. Personally, he utterly fails.

Rory has left by choice. Evelyn betrayed them by choice. Curtis has destroyed his marriage through choice.

Rene and Dinah are flourishing.

As a politician, he’s destroyed his legacy as the Arrow, even though he thought it the right choice: it’s hurt him and he doesn’t know how to come back from that.

He killed Billy, thereby once again, hurting Felicity and reminding him again that it isn’t the worst thing he’s done.

He settled for the first offer at a relationship that came along, from a woman who he knew initially thought little of him because he needed to prove to someone like that, that he wasn’t bad and could be better. And if he could convince someone like her – even as he lied and was subpar about them – then maybe, just maybe he could be worthy of more. Worthy of Felicity.

He now feels he was an idiot to even try and once he saw that for what he was, once he realised why he’d tried in the first place he dumped Snoozan in the coldest break up I’ve seen on TV in a long time.

He’s been forced to see why he destabilises everything in his life. He’s fallen to his lowest ever point.

And like with every season, Felicity will be the one to make him rise back up.

Unlike season 1, Oliver and Felicity won’t have a quick 2-minute thing and then spend 3 episodes ignoring each other like he and LL had between 21 and 23 S1.

Olicity had episode 19 to air out the big problem between them. She thinks he doesn’t trust her and he has no idea how to tell her the truth because once he does he thinks he’ll lose her love forever. They’ll have 5.20 to circle back round to each other, to have Oliver explain why he’s been acting the way he’s been acting and have Felicity be openly vulnerable to him. 5.22 it’s his b-day party and 5.23 they all end up on Lian Yu.

Not city wide attack, no loss of a best friend (Diggle), no loss of a love that’s his life and his always and his future.

Perspective will be gained as will a new life. He’ll let go of the rope around his neck: his promise to his father. He’ll FINALLY step off the island. He’ll have the girl who completes him to help him and him, her.

THEY COULDN’T MASH THIS UP TOGETHER IN WEEKS OF PANIC OVER THE OUTCRY OF FANS.

They would never - EVER - give THIS much simply for fan-service. It’s far too much.

They aren’t that stupid. A waste of money, time and resources on pleasing some fans.

Ah, no.

Look, we know fans have some power. We know that. They listen to what we like and if enough people like something, they either look at it more closely or it’s given credence.

But it isn’t their motivation for action. And the CW guys, the directors, the producers, Warner Br’s etc: they make calls that we don’t know about BEFORE fan reactions even occur. Before they we loved Felicity, THEY fell on love with her first and asked her to be brought on for more episodes.

By seeing the scripts for season 2 and 3, we’ve had it confirmed that all the small moments between them over season 1 and 2 were created with an epic romance in mind. The break up has been coming since the beginning. We all know LL was the original LI, until they watched the pilot before it aired and realised they couldn’t re-cast their female lead.

The break up and the space between Oliver and Felicity has been deliberate and something they’ve been planning for a long time. As is their reunion. As is Oliver’s rise to glory.

All of this, the romance, has all been about Oliver becoming the GA. It has NOTHING to do with fan reaction.

Take a brief look at season 4’s narrative cues first:

They’re together, moving in with each other and getting married. All in 9 episodes. Wow. At the time I didn’t notice the speed but looking back at it, I’m super stunned I didn’t see the it until it was too late.

They rushed their progress to break them up. To give them lots of time to live differently without each other. I’ve already posted that I believe they’re aiming for 5 more seasons to reflect on the first 5. It had nothing to do with whether whoever makes the decisions likes Olicity or not; it was a piece of the story. They realised they were going to get more than 5 seasons – A LOT more. Revealing this secret child and having them work through that was probably going to happen all in one season. Until the glorious news of more seasons.

So, then they have that scene in 4.16 where Felicity says to Oliver that he would always be on that island and that, though she loves him and wants to be with him, he’ll always resort to being that person. To the man created in those 5 years away. The kind of fiancé who would make the kind of choices that would leave the ones he loves bereft, even if that wasn’t his intention. The man she loves who could one day simply leave her, because of a choice he might make.

It’s a progressive point: something for him to aim to beat. A wall to climb over. And some walls are really high and terrifying to scale.

They’re at a stale mate and a cross roads and to be honest, I understand why. As much as the patience they asked of us is wearing very thin, I get why it took so long.

They couldn’t get back together in season 4 because Felicity was right: eventually he’ll make a decision that will ruin them. And she needed to face her demons. Until he could understand himself, understand what lies at the root of his decisions, they were null.

And Oliver… well he’s the king at burying what hurts. It’s very characteristic of his character to take a full season to GET IT.

This is the core of season 5. His evolution. Stepping past that and becoming the hero Felicity has seen in him since day one.

And yet he hasn’t managed to do this without her.

She’s a pinnacle piece of his puzzle. Their break up is at the root of what’s hurting him.

Most of his choices this season have ended in failure and/or pain. The things he’s doing as the mayor, how he’s resorted to killing once again, then openly renouncing the GA without discussing it with his team, dating SW and then dumping her like she was nothing (she was and he knows it which is why he doesn’t understand why he dated her: it was because he was lonely btw), they’ve been based on an underlying principal that he is this bad person who destroys the goodness around him. He went in search of something to prove that wrong… what he found was much worse. He found the truth: or a partial truth.

Being alone hasn’t helped him: it’s simply made him see what he was denying for years. In a very real way, it is a sickness.

But honestly, he was never EVER going to understand himself fully, was never going to see the missing pieces without Felicity Smoak.

I believe 5.20 will be about this: about the revelation in 5.17 and Felicity showing him that there might be a different way to see this.

The way they’ve filmed the episode tells me they’ve put a good deal of thought and MEANING into it.

It’s sounding like the Olicity episode to end all other episodes: they’re in each scene together. It’s been made so that Felicity has to depend on him, something she’s been deliberately not doing all season. It will be brutally honest, gut wrenching and heart-warming MAYBE OTHER THINGS.

Now, WITHOUT proof, why would they do all that just to tide over a fan-base?

If the narrative flow to Olicity and their reunion wasn’t obvious to some people it’s because they were either too close to the subject or too angry at their break up. I get why. It was a crappy breakup and the length of time we’ve had to wait for the pendulum to swing back around has been almost too much – but they could never get back together until Oliver is at his lowest, until he is at a place he can fully open like he’s never been before.

All because of her, because she’s changing his world view of her and it is certainly not in any bad way.

And in doing this - in confessing to the one person he’s most afraid to confess to - he’ll free himself of a burden AND have what is likely going to be an amazing response from the woman he loves. Something to give him hope: a different point of view. Maybe it’s that simple. It’ll connect to their breakup. It ALL connects.

They’re tying up 5 years of story in 5 episodes, but there will be a focus on his secrets (William/his break up with Felicity) and his loose ends (the return of some major villains etc).

She’s been through something now, and she sees him in a different light — and he also sees her in a different light. There’s a lot more mutual understanding, and even though I think it’s hard to top the mutual respect they already have for each other, that goes up as well.”

WM said this and do you see how brilliant that is?

That they’re creating a couple who no one can stand against, a couple who love, respect and admire each other the most out of everyone. A couple who understand each other enough that their future encounters are bound to fascinate us.

Like someone once said, they’re the DNA that make Arrow what it is. The essential make up now of the show.

Fan-service, they will never be. They were decided BEFORE we wanted them by Warner Bro’s, CW, the directors etc.

CRYSTALS FOR WITCHES W/ BPD!!!

Hello! Recently I’ve been struggling with my bpd, and thought I’d turn to some crystals that may help me cope with it a little easier. Of course these are not the only crystals that can help, but these are just the ones I own.

Lepidolite

Has a calming effect. Promotes self-love, trust, and honesty; helps relieve depression, anger and anxiety, as well as other mental illnesses!

Do not soak in water!

Angelite

Brings peace, serenity, has a calming effect. Can help bring openness in a relationship. Also can help with infections and headaches!

Do not soak in water!

Calcite

Clears negative energy, calms mind, alleviates stress, enhances personal growth. It is a very very very purifying stone! Can improve relationships and help maintain a balance. (I think it would help with a relationship with your FP if you have one!)

Do not soak in water!

Malachite

Positive transformation, in this case I think of helping overcome bpd. Promotes faithfulness in partners. When you have feelings of “well this person must want me dead because ____ ____ ____”, it can help you remember that no! They don’t want you dead, they love you and want you around! Can also help counter self-destructive tendencies in a romantic relationship.

Do not soak in water!

Bloodstone

Healing energy. Helps control stress and anxiety. Helps control anger and calm fears.

Do not soak in water!

*I recommend cleansing these crystals by burying them, setting in moonlight, or using another crystal, such as selenite. These are all water soluble and can be potentially harmful if soaked!*

So these are my few stones! If you have any more info to add or other crystals you think can help with bpd, feel free to!

here’s my lapis redesign! rationale for what i changed below:

  • lapis, unlike most other su characters, doesn’t really have a central “shape” to her design (garnet has squares, amethyst has circles, pearl has triangles, etc.). so, i chose teardrop shapes as the basis for this redesign. aside from the obvious drop shapes in her hairstyle, her “skirt” here makes a drop shape with her body, her body type is pear-shaped, and i gave her eyebrows (gems usually aren’t drawn with them) just so i could make them small, thick, and drop-shaped.
  • i changed her to a deeper, more saturated blue because her colors in the show don’t really look like an actual lapis stone? lapis stones are deep blue, while show!lapis is all teals and cyans, like the sea (which is nice in keeping with her water motif, but it doesn’t reflect what the stone looks like and it’s prone to becoming neon in brighter shots). also i added small gold parts because lapis stones often have golden flecks in them
  • (the gold freckles are in simple sets of three because i was trying to keep the design animatable. if this was to be animated, the golden flecks in her stone would not be drawn in shots further away from her)
  • her outfit is supposed to look like a two-piece swimsuit with a towel wrapped around her waist, but more stylized. i kept the diamond motifs on her clothes because i liked how they worked those in in the show.
  • her wings are less greenish because it looks better with the new color scheme. her eye shape, visible lips, and sharp teeth are mostly because i liked how they looked. i did keep her face shape and nose though.
  • fun fact: the mirror would a golden color instead of a silvery one in this version
  • it’s not shown here but i like the idea of her becoming melty when cracked (from the early storyboards). so. assume that.

“You have a problem,” Andrew said, “wherein you only invest your time and energy into worthless pursuits.”

“This,” Neil flicked his finger to indicate the two of them, “isn’t worthless.”

“There is not ‘this’. This is nothing.”

“And I am nothing,” Neil prompted. When Andrew gestured confirmation, Neil said, “And as you’ve always said, you want nothing.”

Andrew stared stone-faced back at him. Neil would have assumed it a silent rejection of Neil’s veiled accusation if Andrew’s hand hadn’t frozen midair between them. Neil took the bottle from Andrew’s other hand and set it off to one side where they couldn’t knock it over.

“This is a first,” Neil said. “Do I get a prize for shutting you up?”

“A quick death” Andrew said. “I’ve already decided where to hide your body.”

“Six feet under?” Neil guessed.

“Stop talking,” Andrew said, and kissed him.

—  The king’s Man
Beauty and his Beast

A/N) okay so this turned out longer than I expected. But I think it was worth it. I hope you like this, and i know I took a while, so I hope it was worth the wait.
—————

Sirius sat in confusion as he felt the road jostle his body through the car seat. Wherever they were going, it was out of the way.

Lily was barely talking to him as she gripped excitedly at the steering wheel. Every once in a while, a giggle would escape her lips, and her eyes would drift to her passenger before returning to the road and bouncing in her seat. Lily not talking made Sirius nervous. There had to be something going on. He hadn’t seen remus all day, as he claimed he was out on Order business. At this point, Sirius wasn’t sure if he believed his boyfriend. This wouldn’t be the first time he was made to believe that Remus was gone only to have him show up randomly somewhere. It made Sirius uncomfortable. He hated being surprised but he loved surprises. If anyone knew that, it was Remus.

Yep. Remus was definitely behind this.

There were so many trees in this part of London. He wasn’t even positive where they were, and the darkening sky didn’t help. His sense of direction didn’t need any assistance in confusing itself.

“Lilyyyy,” Sirius drawled. Lily shot her eyes from him to the road, so quick you’d think it didn’t happen. “Where are we?”

Lily smiled a little, but looked as if she was trying to suppress it from what Sirius could tell. Her long, red hair was dressed elegantly in gold ribbons and pulled away from her face, aside from a single strand, which lied over the corner of her lip in Sirius’ side, skewing his view of her face.

“We’ll be there soon,” she said in a strained voice. “Just a couple of minutes.” Sirius flipped against the seat, groaning impatiently. “You didn’t answer my question!”

Lily smirked. “We’ll be there soon,” she repeated. Sirius curled his lip into a growl, but turned to face the window, pouting.

Until he saw the outline of a castle in the distance. Just the top tiers raising above the skyline, a clash of black silhouetted against the pale pink sky. “What the fuck…” he trailed off. Lily made a sort of squeaking noise, seemingly unable to hide her excitement.

Sirius’ eyes stayed glued to the castle as it grew closer, more coming into view. The walls, the windows, and suddenly the door.

Lily stopped the car in front of the looming structure. Sirius turned to her, pointing behind him with wide eyes. “There?” He asked weakly. “There,” Lily replied with a nod. Sirius gulped, almost comically, his Adam’s apple dancing up and down his throat. Lily laughed. “Don’t worry! I’ll see you inside,” she promised.

When Sirius had maneuvered his way out of the car, he made his way up the front steps of the castle, staring in awe at the grand stone building, looking somehow fortuitous and graceful at the same time.

Sirius pulled his short shorts down farther on his thighs before raising his hand to knock on the door.

It creaked open with an air of intimidation. Sirius narrowed his eyes and began walking in. Familiar…. why was it so familiar?

The castle lit up, candles in every corner illuminating with a suddenness that startled a squeak out of Sirius. He covered his mouth, turning to watch as the fire lighting each candle made its way around the room, before his eyes came to rest on the two figures that had appeared in front of him.

Sirius sighed almost audibly when he figured out it was James and peter.

“Monsieur Sirius, we’ve come to see you to your room,” Peter said, pulling the ruffles at his collar. Sirius’ eyebrows disappeared into his hair as he took in what they were wearing. Each man was adorned in a black tux with ruffled collars and cuffs, looking exceptionally hilarious due to their height differences. Peter, who smiled brightly, held out his hand as if to guide Sirius in the right direction. James, on the other hand, glared at Sirius, mouthing “don’t you dare” at him before spreading his hand in a way to mock peter.

“Okay, what the fuck? This must have been your idea, James,” Sirius laughed as he began following them down the hall, one on either side of him. “So, I gotta ask. Who held him down, who stripped him, and who forced the outfit on him?” He continued, jumping when James elbowed him in the ribs. Peter reached across Sirius to slap James’ hand. “No elbowing the guest!” He hissed before continuing to mosey down the hallway. James nearly turned purple.

The boys led him up a set of stairs and his down a dimly lit hall. The stone of the walls peeked out from behind the paintings and pictures that hung from it. The carpet beneath their feet was luxurious and red, leading them down the twisting hallway. Sirius continued his jokes the entire time, feeling the need to take advantage of the fact that James couldn’t get him back.

When Sirius’ guides stopped, they pointed him to the door of a room off the hall. James leaned moodily against the wall as sirius opened the door. “Bye bye, Ruffles,” Sirius jeered as he disappeared behind the door.

The new room was almost overwhelming to his senses. The floor was a dark wood, differing almost suddenly when it met the pale blue walls, which were covered in paintings of beautiful woman and strong men. Sirius began estimating the age of the castle then, deciding it was well over 100 years old.

His eyes continued around the room to find a bed and a dresser on one side, and a vanity on the other side. It’s table top was covered in eye shadows and hair devices that sirius was frightened at the sight of. But before he could turn around to question them, Peter and James slammed the door behind him and he was alone.

Until two figures emerged from the bathroom. Sirius nearly screamed when Lily and Marlene appeared in full-length blue gowns, both looking stunningly gorgeous. Sirius caught sight of the same gold ribbons he had seen in Lily’s hair decorating Marlene’s hair, gently contrasting with the chestnut color of her locks.

“Okay will someone explain what the actual fuck is going on?” Sirius exclaimed. “Sit down, ass face,” Marlene demanded. “No!” Sirius shouted. “Not until someone explains-”

“Sirius,” lily cut him off threateningly. Sirius hesitated before slumping moodily into the chair in front of the vanity.

Suddenly, their hands were upon him; in his hair and on his face, sweeping and brushing and applying. He didn’t even know what was happening due to the flurry of movement. He could barely tell where one girl ended and another began. But and hour later, they stopped. They both moved back, staring at Sirius with satisfaction on their faces. Sirius didn’t understand until he looked into the mirror.

He almost didn’t recognize himself. His hair was pulled gently away from his face, the top half restrained in a braid while the rest of it flowed down his shoulders in wispy waves. His cheekbones were illuminated with a dusty gold color, and his eyes were almost a new shade of grey. On his lids, a light shade of gold darkened as it traveled out to the edge of his brow bone and fizzled into black when it reached the end. And then there were his lashes. Miles long, so it seemed. They were deep black and long enough to touch his eye brow. It was a strange feminine look, but he was no woman. He looked somehow even more like a man, but like a softer version of one.

“Whoa,” he whispered. He didn’t even know what to say. He just stared at what he was pretty sure was his reflection. Behind him, he could see Marlene and Lily grinning. Marlene took a deep breath, eyes never leaving Sirius. “I have to get out there for a minute. Still some things to do,” she said before disappearing behind the door and out of the room.

“Theres more,” Lily informed him. He looked back at her with questioning eyes. Without a word, Lily disappeared behind the bathroom door and reappeared with a bag holding what looked like a suit. Lily unwrapped the bag as Sirius rose from his seat. He gasped.

The suit was gold.

Suddenly, he knew. He covered his mouth with his hands. He knew what was happening. Lily smiled at him, aware of the enlightenment that had just happened. “He did this?” Sirius said weakly. She nodded. “Well? Go put it on!” She instructed him and he took off with a giggly smile.

He pulled the suit on after stripping out of his short shorts and tank top. He looked in the bathroom mirror with excitement dancing in his eyes.

When he emerged from the bathroom, he bit his lip to hold in his excited laughter. Lily was doing the same, pressing her lips together to hold it in. “You look incredible, Sirius,” she told him, a certain pride in her voice. “I think you’re ready to go.”

Without questioning it, he followed Lily out the door. They walked down the hall in silence, sirius’ mind racing. What the hell was going to happen next? He thought he knew, but dreaded the idea of getting his hopes up.

They came to a stop in front of two gigantic oak doors. “Are you ready?” Lily asked quietly. Sirius nodded, but he was lying. He didn’t even know what he was meant to be ready for.

But lily pushed open the great doors anyways, and Sirius felt the breath leave him.

A set of grand golden stairs split two ways stood before him, a balcony between them. He traveled out to it, glancing out over the room beneath him. Magnificent golden sheer curtains hung from the walls, which were so high up that the nearly two, story stairs didn’t even reach the tops of them. The walls were a deep blue color, white pillars stretching up their lengths from ceiling to floor. The floor was a delight gold color with darker gold accents depicting a beautiful scene of dancing angels.

And at the end of the room, standing regally with a giant smile on his face, was Remus.

Sirius laughed out loud and began racing down the stairs, praying he wouldn’t fall, because that would be very like him. And very mood ruining. But he got to the bottom without tripping and ran straight for Remus, coming to a stop in front of him to admire the view.

The tall man was dressed in a royal blue suit with gold details, his hair swept to the side and groomed back. His eyes were not hidden beneath it for once, giving Sirius a full on view of the deep chocolate brown that he wished he could swim in.

Remus, whose arms had been folded behind him, reached out to him. “Care for a dance, my love?” He asked, smirking at the wonder in Sirius’ eyes. Sirius nodded numbly with a smile plastered on his face. And he was swept away in remus’ arms. They paused in the middle of the floor, almost like they were waiting for something. After a minute of standing there, Remus furrowed his brow and looked up while Sirius tried not to pass out from how attractive he looked when he did that.

The patter of footsteps brought his eyes to where Remus had stationed his. Peter suddenly appeared on the balcony of the stairs. “Sorry!” He called. “Technical issues! Give us a minute,” he disappeared behind the giant doors again and Remus laughed. Sirius stared up at him, about to open his mouth to ask the question no one had answered all night.

Until a familiar tune struck the hall, widening Sirius’ eyes and pulling at his heart. He knew it. He knew it. He was right.

Tale as old as time…

The voice rang out over the speakers, and Sirius was twirled around Remus.

Just a little change…

Remus smiled down at Sirius with adoration in his eyes. “What is this?” Sirius asked.

Beauty and the beast…

“I’m giving you the ending you wanted,” remus told him.

The chorus kicked up, as did Sirius’ heart beat.

“But-” Sirius began. “Shut up and dance, Beauty,” remus demanded. Sirius laughed gently and began to step with Remus, a delicacy he had never seen before in the way Remus moved.

They spun gently around the floor. The music took Sirius as far as Remus’ eyes did. He kept his feet as steady as he could, but Remus kept him from faltering.

By the time the music faded out, Sirius was pressed to Remus’ chest. He was breathing deep and clear, and his mind was still dancing.

Remus took his hand, pulling him to the terrace. “Come on, then,” he encouraged. He felt his excitement kick up. He also noticed that this was the longest period he had been so quiet in a very long time.

He followed Remus, gripping his hand tightly in his own. Remus turned to smile at him when they reached the door, pushing it open with one graceful stroke.

Sirius stepped into the cool air of the night, looking over the woods with wonder in his eyes. “Remus, this is incredible,” he said, looking back at his boyfriend, who was standing in the doorway watching him. Sirius turned, resting his back against the terrace fence. “What?” He asked with a smirk. Remus shrugged. “Just thinking I’m doing the right thing,” he replied. Sirius looked confused. “What decision is that?”

Remus didn’t answer. He just stepped a little closer and took one of Sirius’ hands, pressing it to his lips before releasing it.

And the he moved down.

It startled Sirius at first.

But that was nothing compared to the shock that ruptured his heart when Remus dropped to one knee.

Sirius felt his mouth drop open. “Remus, what-” remus looked up at him. “Hold on before I loose my nerve,” he said, reaching into his back pocket and producing a small leather box. Sirius gripped the fence as the box popped open to produce a small silver band with golden details, though Sirius wasn’t close enough to see what was carved into it.

“Sirius,” remus began, bringing Sirius’ eyes to his boyfriend. “I have known you for so long that I can’t remember what life was like without you. And then I realized that I didn’t want to remember. I don’t want to remember and I don’t want to forget what it’s been like to have you in my life. Even before I realized how much I love you, I knew that you were something I would never want to loose. You got me through everything. All the nights I thought I was a monster, and you were there to remind me I was still human. I know how cheesy this speech is, and I also know how true it is. I love you so much, Sirius. And I want nothing more in my life than to be your prince. Because, with you, I’m no longer a beast. Sirius Black,” remus paused and took a deep breath. “Will you marry me?”

Sirius was speechless. He knew there were tears running down his cheeks. He knew that his heart was thrumming wildly in his chest. And he knew his answer.

“Yes!” He shouted, all his adrenaline finally erupting. “Yes! Of course!”

Remus laughed before gathering Sirius in his arms and burying his face into his neck. Sirius felt himself being picked up and spun. When he was placed back on the ground, Remus took his hand again, this time to place the ring on his finger. Sirius held it up and gasped for about the eighteenth hundred time that night.

The gold in the ring was carved in the shape of two figures dancing. Writing around the rest of the ring spelled out the word beauty. Sirius looked up at Remus, more tears spilling from his eyes. Standing in his tip toes, he pressed his lips to Remus’. And they stood there o the terrace, just feeling and smelling and knowing each other.

Until they heard a squeal and the tapping of tiny feet. They let each other go, and Sirius’ face turned from confusion to amusement very quickly. A tiny figure, round and toddling, hurried across the floor. It looked like a tea cup, and in the middle flopped a head of messy black hair.

The door opened behind the cup and Lily and James came running in. “Harry!” they called after the boy as he ran to the terrace. “Harry, not now!”

But it was too late. Sirius bent down and pulled the little boy into his arms. Harry let out squeals of laughter as sirius did the same. The tiny boy was dressed as Chip from beauty and the beast. Sirius smiled fondly at the adorable boy. He was flapping his arms around, seeming to be unable to put them down all the way in the costume. Sirius placed a kiss on his head as Lily and James came to a stop in the door way.

“MATE?!” James yelled, pointing to Sirius’ hand. Remus smiled and nodded before wrapping his arms around Sirius’ waist and looking over his shoulder at harry.

Lily’s eyes were welling up with tears. “You didn’t tell us that, you jerk!” She said, no real venom in her words. Remus shrugged. “I wanted it to be a surprise for everyone,” he stated. “Also, I wasn’t going to tell any of you if he said no.”

They laughed. Sirius turned his head to look at Remus. “As if I would ever say no to you!”

Sirius put Harry down as music once again overtook the ball room. Peter was standing once again on the terrace, smiling down at them. “Nice ring!” He called. Sirius sent him a wink. “Thanks, Peter!”

He heard Lily laugh and turned to see James spinning her around him. Sirius turned to Remus. “My turn to ask you for a dance, fiancé dearest.” Remus’ face lit up. “Anything for you, my fiancé.”

And they were all dancing again. A happy feeling washed over everyone in the room. Even harry, who was struggling to escape the confines of his costume.

“By the way, have I mentioned how perfect you look tonight?” Remus asked. “No,” sirius said in consideration. “But the fact that your eyes never left me is a good sign.”

“Well there is nothing in the world that could compare to your perfection, just so you know,” remus said, kissing Sirius’ forehead as if it would ensure the message got to his brain. Sirius beamed before he narrowed his eyes.

“Really quick question. Where the hell did you get this castle?” Sirius questioned. Remus chuckled. “Oh yeah. Peter has people in high places,” he said. Sirius raised an eyebrow. “It’s his rich uncle’s,” he filled in. Sirius nodded in comprehension. “See, that makes sense,” he muttered.

Eventually, everyone was dancing with a partner, Peter and Marlene joining each other on the floor while the other two couples danced away. There was nothing but laughter, even Harry freed himself from his costume and began running around in his underwear. He was having fun, so no one was complaining.

By the end of the night, James and Lily picked their son up and said goodbye, beginning to leave. “Where are they going?” Sirius asked. “Home,” remus answered. Sirius’ face fell. “Do we have to go home too?” Remus shook his head. “Peter gave us free reign of the place for tonight,” he said. “After all, it is a special occasion.”

After Peter and Marlene left as well, the place fell quiet. Remus and Sirius were left standing in the middle of the floor, and Sirius was glad for the silence. It gave him the opportunity to take in Remus’ features.

“Just so you know,” he spoke, his voice echoing off the walls, “you’re no beast.” Remus smiled. “Thanks to you, I actually believe that.”

Sirius gently touched Remus’ face. “I love you,” he whispered. “I love you, too,” remus replied.

The night faded in s hurry after that. They rushed to their room after a few more dances, and when Sirius awoke the next morning, he remembered. A soft smile lightened his face as Remus slept on next to him.

He remembered. And he didn’t think he would ever forget.

Compatibility: The Basics

First off, I am going to give you the disclaimer that all astrology bloggers love to give: astrology does not dictate exactly how well people get along. A person’s natal chart does not set into stone what the person’s personality or essence is, so it’s important not to take astrological compatibility too seriously. Even if you and your crush or partner are incompatible astrologically, it does not mean you cannot have a happy, healthy relationship.

Second, the best way to get full, proper insight into the compatibility between two people is to draw the synastry and composite charts for them. You can find chart generators for synastry and composite charts on astro.com in the Extended Chart Selection. I will discuss these charts further in a future post.

What signs are compatible?

Signs that form harmonious aspects are the most compatible. So, signs of the same element or of the same duality (except for the sign’s sister) are the most compatible.

Pairs between the same sign are also good, but not as strong as harmonious aspect pairs.

Different astrologers view the compatibility of sister signs differently. Personally, I believe that sister signs of the mutable and cardinal modalities are compatible, while the sister signs of the fixed modality are less compatible. However, this is very open to interpretation.

Signs that form square aspects are the trickiest. These are signs of the same modality, not including the sign’s sister.

Semisextile and inconjunct pairs are tricky, but not as tricky as the square pairs.

So, here are the signs that are most to least compatible for each sign (using the order: trine pairs, sextile pairs, same sign, sister sign, inconjunct, semisextile, and square):

  • ARIES: Sagittarius, Leo; Gemini, Aquarius; Aries; Libra; Virgo, Scorpio; Pisces, Taurus; Capricorn, Cancer
  • TAURUS: Virgo, Capricorn; Pisces, Cancer; Taurus; Scorpio; Libra, Sagittarius; Aries, Gemini; Leo, Aquarius
  • GEMINI: Aquarius, Libra; Aries, Leo; Gemini; Sagittarius; Capricorn, Scorpio; Cancer, Taurus; Virgo, Pisces
  • CANCER: Scorpio, Pisces; Virgo, Taurus; Cancer; Capricorn; Sagittarius, Aquarius; Leo, Gemini; Libra, Aries
  • LEO: Aries, Sagittarius; Gemini, Libra; Leo; Aquarius; Pisces, Capricorn; Cancer, Virgo; Taurus, Scorpio
  • VIRGO: Capricorn, Taurus; Scorpio, Cancer; Virgo; Pisces; Aries, Aquarius; Libra, Leo; Gemini, Sagittarius
  • LIBRA: Aquarius, Gemini; Leo, Sagittarius; Libra; Aries; Taurus, Pisces; Scorpio, Virgo; Cancer, Capricorn
  • SCORPIO: Pisces, Cancer; Capricorn, Virgo; Scorpio; Taurus; Aries, Gemini; Sagittarius, Libra; Leo, Aquarius
  • SAGITTARIUS: Aries, Leo; Libra, Aquarius; Sagittarius; Gemini; Cancer, Taurus; Capricorn, Scorpio; Pisces, Virgo
  • CAPRICORN: Virgo, Taurus; Scorpio, Pisces; Capricorn; Cancer; Leo, Gemini; Aquarius, Sagittarius; Libra, Aries
  • AQUARIUS: Gemini, Libra; Aries, Sagittarius; Aquarius; Leo; Virgo, Cancer; Capricorn, Pisces; Scorpio, Taurus
  • PISCES: Cancer, Scorpio; Capricorn, Taurus; Pisces; Virgo; Leo, Libra; Aries, Aquarius; Sagittarius, Gemini

What placements do I use?

Of course, you can’t just use sun sign-sun sign compatibility! Figure out your placements and the placements of your partner/crush, and look at interplanetary compatibility. For example, if you are a Virgo sun, Gemini moon, Libra Venus and your partner is a Sagittarius sun, Taurus moon, Capricorn Venus - you have strong sun x moon compatibility and sun x Venus compatibility because Sagittarius sun is compatible with Gemini moon and Libra Venus, and Virgo sun is compatible with Taurus moon and Capricorn Venus. Here are my favorite planets to compare when it comes to compatibility:

  • Sun x Sun - how well your personalities work together
  • Sun x Moon - how well you balance or understand each other’s emotions and meet each other’s needs
  • Moon x Venus - romantic and emotional compatibility
  • Sun x Venus - romantic, feminine attraction
  • Sun x Mars - sexual, masculine attraction
  • Mars x Venus - physical and romantic compatibility
  • Mars x Mars - sexual compatibility
  • Venus x Venus - romantic compatibility
  • Rising x Venus - initial attraction
  • Sun x descendant - general attraction
  • Juno x Sun - long term attraction
Small (Kickstarter & process) update

After all the … stuff^^ happening in the last few days we’re returning to the actual work now and are in the process of setting up printing banners, layout, etc so we can check them back with the authors and artists and then do a final beta-ing round.

Also we are - of course  -  in the final throes of preparation for the Kickstarter now. As soon as the final numbers and rewards come in (this is not meant as pressure to those still creating 😍 !!) we’ll finalize the tier levels, the calculations and the stretch goals and then set up the page.

Planning for launch in the middle of June.

We have responded to the basic tier questions in other asks, so, while it’s not written in stone yet, there will be an estimated ~15 reward levels and various stretch goals, starting with digital only tier at 5€ and basic early bird for print and digital at 20€.

We will post the information as soon as it becomes ‘fixed’, to keep you all updated.

This is beyond exciting!!

And now…. we’re back at it :) *waves*

Recipe - Josh’s Herbal Black Salt

Black salt is used extensively in many different forms of witchcraft. Between its color and its composition, it is excellent for repelling negative energy, working protection spells, and cleansing.

This recipe is not to be confused with edible black salt, as between the charcoal and the other ashes I have in this recipe do not make for a very palatable substance!

As usual, feel free to mix up this recipe as suits your needs!

Ingredients:

-Charcoal
-1 cinnamon stick
-Another cinnamon stick, broken into small pieces
-Ashes from previous spell workings (I used incense ash and sage ash)
-3 cloves
-9 pinches of dried rosemary
-eggshell
-blessed salt
-onyx or obsidian, or other protective stone

First, take the salt and add it to your mortar and pestle. Grind it up until it becomes a fine powder. Add the eggshell and continue grinding until it becomes a homogeneous consistency. Add the rosemary and pieces of cinnamon, and the cloves and continue grinding. You want to keep it to a powdery consistency as much as possible. This will take a lot of work and intent.

Set this powder aside, and grind your charcoal until it becomes a fine powder. DO NOT use a mortar and pestle for cooking in this process! This is why I have two sets - one for witchy grinding and one for cooking grinding.

When the charcoal is ground down, add your ashes and mix. Blend this into your herbal salt mixture until you have a lovely black powder. I continued adding intent and used my athame to stir the powders together - you can blend them and add intent as you feel is right for you.

In a jar, add your salt and the intact cinnamon stick (I associate cinnamon with protection, and by adding the stick, I’m further empowering the salt).

Seal the jar and place your stone on top. Let this sit on your altar or in moonlight until you feel it is sufficiently empowered. The picture above is of it on my working altar, ready for the full moon. If you don’t feel it necessary to have this “percolation empowerment,” then you’re welcome to actively enchant it in whatever way you feel best!

What It’s Used For…

As I’ve mentioned, black salt is excellent for protection and cleansing! Use it in dishes, jars, bags, or bottles as is necessary to incorporate its qualities. Another great use for it is as a protection powder - sprinkle it in the corners of your property to help establish a barrier, cleanse, and promote positive energy.

If, like me, you use self-lighting charcoal discs for your workings, you can do as I do and grind up some of these discs for the salt. When working with an open flame - outdoors, please - you can (CAREFULLY) sprinkle this into the flame to cast its qualities into the atmosphere - the sparking element and salt will add a beautiful display, and the herbs will help bring a delicious smell to the air. As I’ve mentioned, please be careful if using it in this way, and please use a spoon so as to avoid burning yourself with the residue on your fingers.

Other variations of this recipe include red pepper flakes, black pepper, juniper berries, et cetera. Play around with what works best for you, and be sure to check and make sure whether or not an addition is suitable for burning if you plan to use the salt for that purpose (rose petals are a great example of what would be great to add, but not to burn… learned that from experience…).

Blessed Be! )O(
