Guys, I need to take a break from my usual silliness to talk about what we’re all thinking about, one way or another: Election Day.
Here in Japan, it’s already Tuesday. I’m going about my day as usual–I actually have a class to teach in just a few minutes. I have to keep this swirling nervousness inside me because it’s an observation lesson, so I have to be in my best behavior.
But don’t think, for one second, that this isn’t affecting me, too.
I know a lot of you are probably like me: before this election, you couldn’t have cared less about politics. I bet some of you even wish it wasn’t happening.
But it is.
It IS happening.
Tomorrow will be a day that will go down in history books; it’ll be something your children read about in schools. It’ll either be known as the day we NARROWLY dodged a bullet…or the day the world ended.
So what I’m asking of you, here and now, is to VOTE.
I don’t care if you think it’s a hassle. I don’t care if you don’t like either of the candidates that actually have a CHANCE to win the presidency. I don’t care if your morals are screaming at the top of their lungs that this election is rigged to high hell–VOTE.
This is bigger than your morals. This is bigger than you, and your vision for what America should be. Because this is what America IS, and you need to face it, deal with it, and VOTE.
More specifically, vote Hillary Clinton.
Yeah, yeah, I know–some of you don’t like her. Some of you would rather a third party candidate than either Hillary or Donald.
But let me ask you something: do you really think any Republicans are going to be voting third party? Do you actually think, seeing all the numbers and statistics that have been EVERYWHERE on here, that your champion actually has a chance, when it’s been proven over and over again that VOTING THIRD PARTY DOESN’T WORK?
And do you think, for even one second, that your friends will still stand by you, you who split the Democratic vote because of your morals or whatever–do you actually think they’d be able to look at you the same, after you helped hand Donald the presidency?
Would YOU be able to face yourself in the mirror, knowing you helped make that happen?
Again, this is bigger than you, your morals, and your vision on what America should be. This is what America IS.
Deal with it.
Vote Hillary Clinton.
And for those of you who say it’ll be too much of a hassle to vote, let me put things in perspective for you:
For an absentee ballot, I had to register to vote online, wait until it was confirmed, print out my ballot, provide documentation that proved that I was who I was, and negotiate the mailing of said ballot from my post office. In Japanese.
And you’re telling me you can’t stand in line for a couple hours? If that’s your argument, then you’ll find limited sympathy from me, if at all.
I know this task is daunting. There will be bigoted scum watching the polls, challenging your rights, trying to prevent you from performing your civic duty.
We interrupt your regularly scheduled blogging to inform you that I saw The Handmaiden last night and it instantly catapulted into my top ten movies list
If you like
WHO GET A HAPPY ENDING
(I know that’s a spoiler but IT’S IMPORTANT)
absolutely gorgeous visuals
not a single white character because the setting is 1930′s Japan-occupied Korea
absolutely gorgeous visuals that vaguely reminded me of Hannibal, because of the very deliberate cinematography and the attention lavished upon the DEEPLY DISTURBING and the fact that pretty much every scene has a very tense thread of eroticism
Eroticism that sometimes purposefully REALLY SHOULDN’T BE THERE, OH DEAR GOD
a plot that folds in and around on itself like a fucking origami
and that is explicitly about how the exploitation of women is awful
and that made my jaw hit the floor at least four different times, somewhere M. Night Shyamalan is sobbing in the corner
no seriously, I need to watch this at least once more because THE TWISTS, SWEET JESUS, I WAS RIVETED
who are smart af and also ADORABLE SCHMOOPY NERDS
villains who get what they deserve
obligatory sexy corset-removing scenes
obligatory sexy bathtime scenes
obligatory explicit sex scenes that are really the only beef I have with this movie because was that really necessary did the camera have to linger that long
literally being able to make all the handmaiden and feudal lord jokes I know you guys love
Gone Girl if everything was much prettier and 500% more gay
i just want to take this moment to imagine 20(?) year old Ichigo Kurosaki pining so much over Orihime that his friend who is literally a spirit living in a different world noticed and told him to confess his feelings
I’ve been talking about the ongoing work on this on twitter, but we’re finally in the last stages of prep and can announce it!
The Let’s Speak English Kickstarter will launch on December 26th! Boxing Day!!
I’m really excited about this!! It’s my first kickstarter, and my first proper book run of my work. Once I have all my extra copies, I can also start finally planning to return to conventions now that I’ll have something to sell again!
Just wanted to give you guys a bit of a heads up, and here’s to a great holiday season! >:0
So at first glance, you could interpret “Always Watching” as Jack trying to make the pax video, but Anti interrupting and taking over the show.
Recall that moment in “A Date With Markiplier” where a screaming Mark pops out of Darkiplier?
Mark said in the charity livestream after this, that this scene wasn’t him escaping but rather Dark’s shell breaking for a bit. So what does this have to do with Anti?
With the theory that Jack’s been “dead” since Halloween, Anti’s been running the channel and pretending to be him for about 5 months now!! And with Jack trying to fight back in Detention and Darkiplier taking the spotlight on Valentine’s Day, Anti and his attention-seeking self needed a release.
And considering that Pax was the place where literally SO MANY PEOPLE came for JACK (where maybe Jack could’ve gotten enough energy from everyone to defeat Anti maybe?), the video was a perfect way for Anti to A) be his glitchy self again without blowing his cover, B) stand his ground against Darkiplier, C) divert everyone’s attention from Jack to him with the whole camera thing (while also reigniting the antisepticeye fandom), all while D) making himself stronger, and making Jack’s chances of getting saved even lower than before.
And because of this, it’s probably safe to say that Anti has enough strength to keep Jack down for about another 5-7 months
and we all know the holiday that’ll come up by then…..
when I heard Elijah Wood was going to star in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency I assumed he would play Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective, but having seen many gifsets I see now that he’s just returning to his LOTR roots of constantly confused, kinda gay, and really just wants to go home
Last year, I wrote about the overwhelming optimism that drove the characters of the Eleventh Doctor’s era to overcome dark situations that could have destroyed them, and this year I want to return to that theme having now seen the last two episodes of series 9 and how that optimism had transformed but ultimately still triumphed.
Where the Eleventh Doctor’s era could be described much like a children’s fairy tale with characters who are put into truly horrifying situations that they overcome through the power of love, the Twelfth Doctor’s era brought the darker side of those stories into focus. Love remained one of the most powerful forces in the universe, but this era explored the reality that love doesn’t always last a lifetime, even for the main characters.
Rory and Amy left the show when their story was finished, and they lived long, happy lives, dying of old age off screen. We all know Cinderella will one day die and so will Amy Pond, but the picture book ends long before that day. When Amy Pond stopped being the Girl Who Waited, it was the beginning of the end of her time on the show, but River Song and Clara Oswald remained on the show long after the stories of ‘The Woman who Killed the Doctor” and “The Impossible Girl” had been resolved.
And they lived until their lives were cut short in tragic, yet heroic deaths. With the direction the show had been taking in series 8 and 9, their stories could have been bleak reminders of the reality that many people die before they ever reach old age, and what we think of as happily ever after is rare (if not impossible), but instead, their endings came with an acceptance of the inevitability of death, while at the same time allowing these women to control their fate in a way we can only dream of in the real world.
The show did not lose all of its optimism as it grew out of it’s fairy tale era, and instead of telling us that River and Clara won’t get their happily ever afters, it asked us to examine how we define happily ever after. Clara Oswald will face the raven and River Song will go to the Library, but those endings do not prevent them from having their own happily ever afters. These two characters are given the opportunity to seize the time they do have and live it the best they can so that when they die, they will have lived full lives on their own terms.
Happily ever after does not mean forever.
It’s a message we can all take to heart knowing that we too will not live forever.
Clara flies off to see the universe with her new companion, and River Song spends 24 years with the man she loves (and with a vortex manipulator and a time machine, it could easily be more than 24 years). They will both die, just as we will all die, but their stories are neither tragedies nor fairy tales. Their stories are examples of what fantasy does best - addressing the harsh realities of life while allowing the characters to do the things we wish we could do, taking both time and death into their own hands.
Eyyy, guess who finally pulled their life together for once? Since I’ve been in a good mood lately, I’ve been doodling frequently and happened to change my style. Drew grew out his hair, so now he decided to show his age lol. Just a few practice sketches of mine, hopefully I can incorporate my new style into asks!
I have returned and everybody is here now! [Reposts Choukei to maintain the set]
I want to be really excited because there are some GOOD things happening in these sneak peeks - that group selfie for instance! (Even Ichi is smiling aa~)
But if I know the Staff.. some horrible things could be waiting to pop out XD
This is the third time Choro’s set something on fire out of nowhere, someone should probably help him. And Jyushi ;;
Beautiful sprites, fun looking attacks, it’s going to be a good event!
Author’s Note: WHAT’S UP GUYS!!! Now that I have successfully survived midterms, I have returned. During a study break, I was scrolling through and I saw an ask on my feed that I just had to write about. So with the blessing of the absolutely fantastic @bucky-plums-barnes (love ya😘😘), I turned one of her Fluffy Friday scenarios into a fic. I hope you guys enjoy!! :)
