I'm dming for the first time in a few weeks, any advice?
My biggest takeaways:
1. You don’t have to know everything. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have an idea what you’re doing, because you should, but you don’t have to know like, every single spell or how all the classes work. I didn’t fully understand how combat worked until halfway through my first battle as a DM.
2. Ask your players what they want out of a campaign, if they just want to roleplay then don’t have the first session be one huge battle.
3. Come prepared with a plot, but keep in mind that your players are almost always going to come up with a better story than you. I’ve completely re-arranged things behind the scenes multiple times in my campaign because either the players were going in a direction that was more interesting then the one I had planned, or to overall fit better with what they had in mind.
