i have a pretty good idea what will happen

To new rituals 💕
I don’t have the courage to tag lauren

This was supposed to be my contribution to the ZukeZine, but classes came around and kicking… hitting me in the face and killing most of my free time…. Anyways, I believe most of the fandom already knows about what happened with Lauren Zuke. So to show appreciation, support, and gratitude for the amazing things they did for the show and all fans, @e-mcwaffle organized the ZukeZine! My idea was to portray some pretty relaxed ambience, with the gems having a good time together while peridot would be freaking out about this show called “that’s so Zuke” starring Lauren Zuke! So yeah, the cartoons are people and the people are cartoons. I have no idea how the show would be… but I bet it would be a really funny one.

So, I've wanted to write a book for a while now. I have an idea and a basic plot, but I don't quite know how to start it. Any advice?

Wow… you’re at the Exciting Part. :)  …No, seriously: this is the point from which everything flows, from the novelist’s point of view. It’s an exciting place to be, and at the same time SO intimidating, because GOD can anything happen from here onward.

(I’m assuming that we’re talking about fiction, BTW.)

Anyway. After 50+ books I know what I do at this point – pretty much – but that’s not going to do you a lot of good, since many of the opening moves in the game for me are now accordioned together into something that happens very fast and in which the individual movements and sequences can be kind of difficult to tease out for an observer. Let me instead describe to you how I would work this kind of situation out when I first got started selling books to editors.

Prompt request: “Help me hide!” + “No, I didn’t murder them. I accidentally knocked them unconscious forever, that’s all.” + “My back’s a bit sore from when you stabbed me with your knife.” + “You’re my soulmate!?”

Pairing: Hoseok/Reader

Genre: Fluff (I guess?) + Humour

Summary: In a world where soulmates are identified by matching marks, you meet your other half a little unceremoniously (featuring bad boy Hoseok).

Word count: 1.1k words

With a tired sigh, you glanced up at the clock. It was almost ten–closing time. The record store you worked at part-time was located in a sketchy part of town, and you hated closing. Walking home alone was always a frightening experience.

Since you had nothing else to do, you perused through the racks of CD’s, humming along to the music playing from the store’s speakers.

As you were browsing through the 80’s rock section, the front door swung open, banging against the wall loudly. Your head shot up in surprise, your heart beating wildly.

In front of you, there was a boy about your age, donned in all black and a leather jacket. He was panting heavily, sweat beading on his forehead. You were a bit taken aback by his handsome features–a pointed nose, high cheekbones, and a strong jawline.

But more than anything, you were annoyed. The store closed in three minutes.

“Sorry, the store’s clo–”

“Help me hide!” the boy practically screamed, advancing towards you rapidly. “Hurry! They’re going to find me!”

“Who are they?” you squealed, almost tripping over your feet as you walked backwards. “Who are you!?”

“We can save the introductions for later,” the boy said hurriedly, eyes wide in panic. “I swear I won’t hurt you, just lock the damn door.”

Peering into the boy’s large, almost innocent-looking eyes, you couldn’t help but believe him. Plus, you knew you were in danger now, too.

You grabbed the store keys from where they sat at the cash register and darted to the front door. With shaking hands, you jammed the key into the keyhole and twisted the old, temperamental lock.

You turned back to look at the boy, who seemed to visibly relax.

“Let’s hide,” he said, turning to walk behind the cash register. “Just to be safe.”

Left with no other options, you followed the dangerous boy behind the counter, ducking down with him. You were so close to him, able to feel his radiating body heat and hear the quiet sound of him breathing.

Casting a brief glance at the boy, upon closer inspection, you realized his hands were covered in blood.

“Oh my god,” you choked out, falling onto your butt. You scooted backwards until your back hit the wall. You could feel your heart practically beating out of your chest. “Did you kill someone?”

“What?” the boy asked, looking at you, surprised. Then, his gaze shifted to his hands and he laughed. “No, I didn’t murder them. I accidentally knocked them unconscious forever, that’s all.”

“Holy shit,” you whispered, mostly to yourself. “Tonight is the night I die. So young, too. I had my whole life ahead of me.”

“Relax,” the boy laughed. He wiped his bloodied hands on his black jeans, the sticky substance smearing everywhere. “I’m joking. The guy’s not dead. I just momentarily delayed him, hence the hiding now.”

“That’s reassuring,” you squeaked, pulling your knees up to your chest. You could feel your body shaking and your breaths quicken.

“Hey, hey,” the boy frowned, moving closer to you as he sensed your distress. “Nothing’s gonna happen to you, I swear. No one’s gonna find us, and even if they do, I won’t let them touch you.”

You eyed the boy suspiciously, but you felt your body begin to uncoil.

“I’m Hoseok, by the way,” he continued with a sunny smile, which contrasted starkly against his dark appearance. “Most people just call me J-Hope, though.”

“That’s a pretty lame street name,” you blurted out unthinkingly. The moment you said it, you slapped a hand over your mouth, regretting it instantly.

Hoseok just laughed. “Trust me, it’s not the worst. I have a friend called Baby G.”

You winced at that, smiling a little bit.

“So, what’s your name?” Hoseok asked conversationally.

“Oh, I’m Y/N,” you replied. Then, you questioned if telling him was a good idea. Belatedly, you realized you were wearing your name tag the entire time.

“Nice to meet you!” Hoseok said cheerily. “Although I wish we could have met in different circumstances.”

“So what happened?” you asked, nodding in the direction of Hoseok’s still slightly bloody hands.

“It was a deal gone awry,” Hoseok shrugged. “It happens sometimes.”

“Are you in a gang?” you whispered, body on alert once more.

“Oh, no,” Hoseok said, laughing in surprise. “I’m actually an underground rapper. One of my friends deals, though, and I was just helping him out.”

You sighed in relief, happy to not be stuck in the middle of a gang war. You lapsed into silence, listening carefully to the sounds coming from outside. In the calm, the sound of Hoseok’s cell phone ringing caused both of you to jump.

Hoseok grabbed his phone and squinted at the display, a frown etched on his face.

“You asshole,” he said immediately, although his words didn’t hold much venom. You could hear the sound of someone talking faintly through the tinny-sounding phone. “Yeah, I’m fine. My back’s a bit sore from when you stabbed me with your knife, though.”

“Are you hurt?” you gasped, ready to reach for the first aid kit stored underneath the cash.

“Oh, no,” Hoseok said, pulling the phone away from his ear. “Figuratively speaking.”

He turned back to the phone, speaking quickly. Hoseok listed names, presumably of the people involved with the drug deal gone south. Eventually, he hung up and turned back to you.

“The coast is clear,” he announced as he stood up. He stretched his long legs a little bit, then extended a hand to help you up. You took it apprehensively, realizing Hoseok could still feel the slight tremors that ran through your body.

Hoseok frowned at this. He shrugged his leather jacket off and draped it over your shoulders. The warm material comforted you immensely. As Hoseok withdrew his arms, you noticed his soul-mark.

It was quite small and delicate looking, which matched Hoseok’s gentle demeanour and clashed with his bad boy persona. His soul-mark was an abstract, winding pattern that reminded you of constellations. It was also shockingly familiar.

“You’re my soulmate!?” you shrieked, staring wide-eyed into Hoseok’s own large eyes.

He gaped at you, glancing down at your clothed forearm. Hastily, you presented your arm, yanking the sleeve of your shirt up to your elbow. Indeed, the perfect match of Hoseok’s soul-mark was drawn into your skin.

“Fuck,” Hoseok managed, completely awed. He looked back up at you with stars in his eyes. “I knew there was a reason I liked you.”

hey look! another unnecessarily long hc post!! as always blame @manonblaxkbeak but also pray for her i sent her nearly 100 (one. hundred.) messages about this

here we go

Six of Crows Modern/Zombie Apocalypse AU!!!

The basics: Five homeless kids working B&E jobs for the local gangs in NYC and a rookie cop band together in the aftermath of a bioterror attack on the the major cities of the country. They decide to flee the country to escape the infected areas, but the entire plan goes to shit and they make some new friends and a helluva lot more enemies on the way to finding a cure to the virus and way out of the country.

  • Kaz: a brooklyn boy who showed up seemingly out of nowhere in the world of new york gangs, but quickly makes a name for himself with his ruthless efficiency. Fearless Leader, as always. He is safe cracker and strategist extraordinaire. he organizes hits on supply storage of survivalist camps and uses a bow staff to beat off zombies. he wears a brace on his leg that he fashioned sheaths to for two long ass daggers, also for zombie destroying.
  • Inej: stolen by a human trafficking ring she escaped upon landing in the states and started up with the gangs to make money to get back home. the spy, the scout. she sneaks into camps and finds out what theyre hiding where. she uses two big ass swords and has all the knives. so many knives. she never runs out. she decapitates zombies and intimidates any other survivors by being Very Pointy.
  • Nina: an illegal immigrant from russia who fled after the authorities put out a warrant for her arrest on the grounds of “homosexual acts” (”what the fuck? i’m bi. they could at least get my sexuality right if theyre going to imprison me for it”). she is the face of the operation, she is beautiful and amazing and she knows how to work diplomatically to get what they need through bartering and trade. also i don’t care if its impractical, she uses brass knuckles because theyre badass and fashionable. she also has one of those snap out metal core batons for beating people off and a machete for chopping off zombie heads.
  • Jesper: an accounting major with a gambling problem who took up gang work to pay for school. he has his signature pistols, but i am a strong believer in melee weapons in the event of a zombie apocalypse because ammo runs out, dudes, so my boy has throwing knives and a slingshot (fight me they’re actually really cool). Him and inej bond over their cool knives. He’s got those badass rainbow ceramic ones that he always had on him in case there were ever metal detectors when they were casing a place.
  • Wylan: he’s still their resident explosives expert, a master of being cute and using household materials to make pipe bombs, fertilizer bombs, molotov cocktails, shrapnel grenades, etc. Wylan got kicked out for similar reasons to canon, his father is a UN rep and working with the CDC (idk man i don’t know how these things work just roll with it) after the outbreak. also he doesnt play the flute he plays the harmonica because i think harmonicas are cool, theyre smaller and less fragile than flutes, and it’d be really funny if he played it if they were ever stuck in holding at a precinct
    • just imagine jesper: “ayye boy what that mouth do ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ”
    • wylan: “play cotton eyed joe” *sick harmonica solo*
  • Kuwei: my brilliant boy is chemistry prodigy who went with his dad to family day at the CDC but then everything went to shit, a bioweapon was released, he missed his tinder date, and now he’s a hostage being used as incentive for his father to further develop this bioweapon released to create more zombies and spread to other countries. He super didn’t ask for any of this, especially when his dad got sick himself and died and he had to take over making increasingly aggressive strands. Pretty please message me if you are interested in my theories on the creation of zombies. I have ideas.
  • Matthias: a rookie cop back from one tour with the special forces after some disciplinary issues regarding protecting refugees and going AWOL. He’s put on a task forced focused on gang activity and he’s been chasing this group of kids his damn age for over a year now and how the hell are they so good at what they do??? He’s chasing them when the outbreak happens and in order to escape a zombie horde ends up running off with them to find shelter. he’s an excellent shot and strategist, also known for physically tossing zombies like a fucking amateur mma fighter this boy is jacked ok he fills out that uniform like a stripper cop and Nina is most definitely Here For It

Miscellaneous plot ideas!

  • Pekka is a sleazy businessman who had jordie killed in front of kaz by some dirty cops while he was getting carted off to juvie for some work they were doing (he never made it to processing).
  • They hole up in a hospital and find patient records - this is how they start to figure out the outbreak’s origin.
  •  The kids have are trying to leave the country through the CDC base since thats the only place with functioning travel.
  • Kuwei is saved once they find out who he is while theyre sneaking around the base, Inej is taken in the process trying to protect him.
  • The Dime Lions are basically the national guard.
  •  Matthias and Nina met when he helped her when she arrived in America, he knew she wasn’t here legally and barely spoke english but after a few weeks she picked it up fast, and disappeared with a bunch of his cash.

“Are you sure I should be out of my room? You heard what Yongie said.” Youngbae scoffed. He leads you down a few halls, turning every once and awhile. You had changed from your bloody clothes earlier, but the small shorts and the big tee shirt seemed to be a bad choice to be running around the building. The once dead hall was now filled with people, which was the reason you were questioning why you didn’t change.

“You’re listening to what he says now?” Youngbae said. You rolled your eyes. Youngbae takes you down a hallway you’ve never been through before.

“Where are we even going?” You ask.

“Conference room,” he says shortly.  “Ji Yong isn’t gonna be there though. He’s resting.”

“Thank God,” you mutter. “He’s so stubborn.”

“You are too princess,” Youngbae chuckled. “Remember that time you didn’t want to leave the playground for dinner, so you made your mother bring dinner to you.”

“Hey, I was six! That‘s not fair,” you say. A smile was displayed on both of your faces. It felt good to smile a genuine smile, especially after what happened with both Kwons. Youngbae stopped walking as you reached a dark colored door. You could hear loud but muffled voices through the door. Youngbae opened the door and stepped aside, letting you in.

“That’s a stupid ass idea,” you hear a familiar female voice say.

“Do you have a better idea for the shit head that came in here and killed, as far as we know, fifteen men?” Said a deeper voice.

“I’m pretty sure he had someone kill more people on the inside,”

“Is my idea stupid now?!”

“Just as stupid as your haircut,” Seungri said. Youngbae cleared his throat and everyone stopped talking, their attention now on you. The room’s walls were a dark red color contrasting with the light colored carpet. A big table was centered in the middle of the room, chair and people around said table. On the far edge of the table sat a big chair, empty, unlike the other chairs that circled the table. The occupants of the chairs are what interested you.

“Dara unnie? Bom unnie?” You asked. They smiled at you, Dara waving.

“Yah (Y/N)! You don’t even say hi to Minzy and me?” Chaerin says shaking her head. A small smile ghosts on your face.

“Well I knew that you were in the mafia, but Dara unnie and Bom unnie? And Minzy?” You groan. Chaerin crosses her arms.

“Who told you about me?” She asks.

“Ji Yong,” Youngbae says.  Youngbae closes the door behind him and places his hand on your back. “Now we can get to that later. We have things we have to take care of. (Y/N), go sit in the chair at the far edge.”

Youngbae pointed towards the bigger, fancier chair of the table. Some of the people eyed you as you walked towards the chair, Youngbae right behind you. A girl with blonde hair and brown roots eyed you suspiciously. As you sat down she finally spoke. “Who is she?”

“She’s (Y/N) if you didn’t hear Youngbae oppa,” Chaerin said.

“So you’re (Y/N),” one of the many boys said. His hair was swept back in a way that should’ve looked messy, but somehow looked very put together. You nod your head nervously. You looked to Youngbae who sat to your right, along with Daesung. Both the eldest and the youngest Seunghyun sat to your left, the older’s phone out in his hand. You looked at it curiously and then looked up at Seunghyun.

“It’s Ji Yong,” he said. You rolled your eyes.

“He does know that resting also means not working right?” You mutter.

“I can hear you Princess,” Ji Yong said, his voice slightly distorted through the phone. A light blush started to appear on your face, but you quickly shook the feeling of embarrassment off.

“I get that she’s close to G Dragon,” another person says. “But why is she so important right now?”

“Because she’s close to Flynn,” Seungri said. You looked at him, eyes wide. He gives you a reassuring smile. “And the only thing she has to do for you is talk about Flynn. Got it?”

A chorus of ‘yes’ and okays erupted through the room. They all turned to you, looking at you expectantly. You gave Seunghyun a nervous look, which was returned by a reassuring smile from him. You look at Youngbae, a determined look on your face. “Where do you want me to start?”

“I don’t think we need the backstory of your relationship with him. Agreed?” Seungri said. Youngbae and many others nodded their heads.

“You’re still telling me later,” Chaerin said. You smiled at her and nodded her head.

“Okay so I met him in college, he was roughly twenty-two at the time, so he’s thirty now. He was born in Busan. He wanted to become a business owner like his dad. His mom was-”

“This is great and all, but how can we use this information?” The blond girl said. You looked at Youngbae. You didn’t know what to say or what to do.

“Well, we know a few things,” Ji Yong said through the phone. You look at the phone, waiting for him to continue. “We know that he probably looked up to his father. Trust me, if you’re taking over your father's’ company you look up to him.”

A small smirk formed on your face. It started to fade away as you started to realize what happened. “He got into the mafia when his father died.”

“What?” Daesung said. Seungri seemed to catch on.

“Flynn said that his father died sometime after he came home from college,” Seungri started.

“With his father dying that must’ve driven him to the mafia,” Bom concluded.

“More likely that someone from the mafia killed his dad,” Chaerin added. You nodded your head.

“It wouldn’t be hard for him to know Big Bang from there,” one of the boys said. The boy next to him nodded his head. The second boy looked oddly similar to Ji Yong, although you could tell the difference between him and your Ji Yong any day. The look on his face bothered you. Something seemed to bother him until he finally spoke up. “What about his mom? Some sort of authority figure over him that would really convince him not to be in the mafia?”

“If anyone were to stop him, it’d be his mom. He never really cared for the police,” you say. The Ji Yong look alike frowned. “His mom passed away while we were in college.”

“So nothing could really stop him from joining,” the first boy said.

“Yeah, but he had a full business for him right?” Another boy asked. God, you needed to learn names for everyone here.

“Kinda, as big as the business is, or was at the time, I highly doubt that it could’ve lasted long without someone to lead it.” You add in. Youngbae nods his head.

“We should start with that,” Daesung said. “Get to know the details of his past. It’ll help us figure out more about it.”

“And it’ll help us end him,” a different boy said. Your eyes go wide a little, and you look down at the table. Seungri took note of this and decided to speed up the meeting.

“Let’s split up into groups,” he said. “WINNER, go figure out more about his dad’s business. I wanna know everything I can about what they did, who his father was and any and all connections they had. Understand?”

Ji Yong’s look alike’s face contorted in confusion. “Where do we even start?”

“Flynn’s last name is Jones,” you say. Everyone looks to you again, but you continue looking at the look alike. “He’s a foreigner in Korea so that alone should make it a bit easier to find. I don’t know the company name though.”

The look alike nodded his head, a hint of blush barely visible on his cheeks. Seungri had a small smile on his face as he looked at you. Youngbae cracked his knuckles and looked at a different group of boys. “iKon, you go dig up some information on how Flynn was as a kid. His childhood, his teenage years, how he acted, what he did. That’ll help figure out his behavior.”

“What’s his old-”

“It’s in the Haeundae-Gu district. I don’t know his actual address though,” you say quickly adding an apology for cutting him off. The group of boys nodded their heads and left the room, leaving Chaerin, Bommie, Dara, Minzy and the other four girls.

“I’m guessing we’re gonna renew old connections?” Chaerin asked. Youngbae nodded his head. One of the girls spoke up. “What about us?”

“You guys are still new,” Seungri said. “Focus more on keeping your land and your gang together, and make sure you’re getting more than enough resources. Okay?” They nodded their heads and quickly left the room. Leaving 2ne1 and Big Bang in the room.

“So, how was your first meeting?” Seungri asked. Seunghyun stood up and moved to the corner of the room, his phone pressed to his ear. You let out a small laugh.

“It’s not my thing, but it was so bad.” Chaerin smiles. She gets up from her chair, followed by the rest of the 2ne1.

“We better get going,” she says. She turns towards you and pulls you into a hug. You gladly hug her back, pulling away after a few seconds. “You always have my number if you need to get away from the guys. I’m always here for you.”

“Thanks, Chaerin,” you say smiling. “I’ll text you.”

She sends off one last smile before leaving. Dara hugs you, soon joined by Bom, then Minzy and Chaerin then joins in as well. You laugh in the center of all four girls. You felt oxygen enter your lungs as all four girls let go. You laugh as you wave them goodbye, watching them leave the room.

“Now what?” You say. Daesung lets out a soft chuckle.

“We can take you back to your room,” Seungri said.

“Or, if you want you could help heal some of the injured from tonight,” Daesung added. You looked at Daesung confused until you remember what happened to the previous doctor.

“Sure, I’ll help.” Daesung smiles at you. He stands up from his chair and get’s ready to leave. “Seungri’s coming too.”

“What why?” He asks. You smile at him and gesture to Youngbae.

“I’m pretty sure Youngbae is busy.” You looked over to him, and he confirmed with a nod of his head. “And Seunghyun is talking on the phone. Plus I need extra hands.”

“Isn’t Daesung young enough help?” He whines. You roll your eyes.

“What if something happens to Daesung and it’s just me around a bunch of men with motives that might not be good for me?” You ask. He glares at you, and you pout in return. It takes him a minute, but you know you won as he groans in defeat.

“Fine,” Seungri says, getting up from his seat. “Let’s go to the infirmary.”

when i was very young i was a lot darker than i am now and i was small for my age and i was completely obsessed with the idea of having an enormous white clydesdale. like the world’s biggest, clompiest unicorn.

i think even at the time i was like “you know what would be awesome? the contrast between a tiny brown girl and a huge, white horse.” obviously it never happened but looking back, i had a pretty good sense of aesthetics for a six year old. good job, me.

Your heart dropped to your stomach as nausea crept over you. How did you not know he was seeing someone else? Your job was to promote them. You definitely would have known if he had a girlfriend.

And furthermore… why did JYP send you all those signals to reach back out and make up for lost time if Jaebum HAD A GIRLFRIEND? Why didn’t Jinyoung tell you before you foolishly traipsed over here, hoping that you’d see him and sparks would fly?

it's always really sad to see really good posts made by ace positivity blogs where the op has deactivated due to harassment from aphobes. like, the post is still being passed around, whether because it makes a good point or it's just a nice positive post, but then the 'Deactivated' is just hovering there like a grave marker, and you wonder if that person is even okay...

I agree. As someone who has been around long enough to see pretty much whole generations of ace bloggers come and go, it always hurts to see that little “deactivated” and wonder what happened–or, worse, to remember exactly what happened and have to relive the pain of it. The idea that any of this can even be called a “discourse” is unbelievable facetious when anyone who dares to speak openly and honestly about their own experiences can be harassed and silenced to the point of deleting at best.

anonymous asked:

Would you say a game begins with "the protagonist wakes up in a unknown place to them" too cliché/too lame?

Only if you don’t use it properly.

The protagonist waking up in an unknown area can be a weak set up if you don’t give the player a reason to keep going and/or a goal to achieve.

Pocket Mirror is the first thing that comes to mind with this: the player character wakes up in a room and has no idea what’s going on or how she got there.  From here, the player solves a series of puzzles with no other reason than “this is a puzzle game, do this to go on to the next room.”  Sure, there’s a mystery, but you’re not sure if you’re anywhere closer to solving it by doing these puzzles or what you are achieving by doing these puzzles in the first place.  You don’t have much context for what’s going on either.  All you know is that you’re playing as a young girl in a…castle?  Mansion?  Who knows (you figure it out at the end of course).  Heck, I didn’t even realize she had amnesia until she told someone she didn’t know her name 20 minutes into the game (other games have the character’s name never be revealed with no amnesia).

Speaking of amnesia, Amensia: The Dark Descent has a pretty good set up.  You wake up as this dude with amnesia who has a note from his past self saying “Lol hi present you it’s past me, I gave you amnesia. I did this so you can  go kill this guy in the castle for me.  Please and thank you, Past Daniel”.  Straight off the bat you’re given a goal (kill Alexander) and a specific mystery to solve (why did Daniel give himself amnesia?).  You have other small goals you got to do leading up to it.  So you’ve got a sense of what you’re doing.

The protagonist waking up in an unknown area can be pretty helpful to a game.  When a player starts the game, they’ll have no idea what’s going on. The player character will ask questions the audience wants to know the answers to, like “where am I?” and “how does this work?”, so you can give your players clear explanations to things you want them to know.

I think the Player Character should also be reasonably intuitive for this kind of thing to work to - they can start saying “Oh, so that’s what’s going on with this…” when you feel like your players will start connecting some dots based on the stuff the protagonist knows.  You can also have the protagonist provide alternate theories like “Oh, so I’m here because of this reason” when later it’s revealed that no, the protagonist was here for a different reason.  This way, you can still have your player character be a thinking human being without having them solve the mystery of why they’re there for the player.

I ended up asking @ralphrius about this since he likes to talk about video game design a lot.  Here’s his opinion:

Make sure that there is a REASON they wake up there and make sure the reveal is SATISFYING

Don’t use “they wake up in a strange place” as a start of your story.  at least, don’t start WRITING from there.  make sure you have an AMAZING idea as to WHY they wake up there.  and make sure that when it gets revealed, every player will go “holy SHIT”

I think that’s good if you’re basing the plot off of the mystery of why they’re there.  I remember playing Ravenwood Horror and the reason why the protagonist was there was revealed pretty early: he was there to tend to someone as a doctor.  It was a simple explanation, and the game kept the mystery going by trying to figure out what happened to the patient and how to get out of the castle and not die.  So a big reveal isn’t always necessary, just something to aim for if it’s the crux of your story.

Sorry if the answer is kinda nebulous - cliches can be an opinion kind of thing rather than a set in stone kind of thing.  You can make anything work in a game as long as you use it right.  I hope this helps you a bit!

Do any of my followers out there have any other opinions on this? Feel free to shout ‘em out.

Poker Night 😏|| John Swazz Imagine

**Requested**

Every single Friday night me and the guys had poker night. The guys being Swazz, Gilinsky, Johnson, Skate, and Derek. I’ve known all of them for quite sometime so we were all pretty close. Close being I’ve at least kissed them once each. But if I ever had to do it again it would be Swazz on my lips.

“That’s fucked up. Y/N do you believe that Johnson could just kiss and ditch a girl?” Swazz laughed. I was grabbing a few beers from the kitchen when there conversation about Johnson’s game with girls brewed up.

“Sweet baby Johnson, God no” I laughed. I sat down next to Swazz and Derek.

“Assholes” Johnson laughs. I take a sip of my beer and skate deals the cards and chips.

“I have an idea” skate says.

“Go for it” gilinsky says.

“Strip poker” he says. I nearly spit out my beer.

“Excuse me” I cough.

“Strip poker. Everytime someone loses they have to take off a piece of clothing” skate explains. It wasn’t a bad idea. I mean the guys all had pretty good body’s…what could possibly happen.

“Alright I’m in” I say. The guys look at me.

“Really? I thought you would be against this.” skate says.

“Live a little” I shrug. The guys all agree and the game begins.

So far it was me and Swazz with our clothes on. The guys were in there boxers biting at their lips trying not to lose more then they already had. I placed yet another bet and so did they. We placed our cards down and there it was. I…I had lost. I had to remove a piece of my clothing. The guys all started laughing. I shot them a look. I removed my shirt. The guys all looked. I wasn’t gonna lie…it felt good knowing they could look and it not bother me but what was bothering me was the fact that I felt Swazz burning a hole into my skin. We placed another bet and there went swazz’s shirt. I caught glimpses every few seconds I could. God damn. We continued the game. Next it was swazz’s pants then it was mine. I couldn’t help the burning inbeween my legs that was growing. Every few seconds I would catch Swazz looking at me and I was doing the same to him.

“I need a drink…anyone else” I ask.

“Ya.” the guys agree.

“I’ll come with you…I need a snack.” Swazz says. ‘I could be his snack’ I thought. I shake it out of my head. I got up and me and Swazz walked into the kitchen. I turned the corner to the kitchen and that went Swazz slapped my ass. I turned around real quick and he pushes me against the wall and put a hand on my mouth.

“Shhh don’t speak” he leans close to my ear almost biting it. I took a deep shallow breath.

“The game needs to end. Understand” he says. I nod. He quickly removes his hand from my mouth and places his lips on mine. His hand grasped at my neck holding me still while his other grabbed at my ass. I swung my leg around his lower leg and pulled him in closer.

“Hurry up! I’m thirsty!!” Derek yells. Swazz pulls his lips from mine.

“In thirsty too…but for a different reason” Swazz smirks. He looks me up and down. I bite my lip and feel the burning get worse and worse between my legs. He grips my ass again.

“Now we need to finish this game” he says. I nod. He grabs a snack and the beers and goes in the living room again. I wait a few seconds and follow behind.

“What took so long?” Johnson asks.

“I was in the bathroom jeez” I retort. I was slightly frustrated. I sat down and we continued our game. I felt swazz’s hand reach up my thigh and rub it. His hand kept climbing and I had enough. I stood up and grabbed swazz’s hand and took him upstairs. The guys were of course catcalling behind us but I ignored it. I needed him as much as he needed me.

……
Hope you liked it!! Sorry it took a lil while 😘😘

Tony and Steve had both agreed that it would be best to stay in Vienna for the time being. The rest of the team could handle any missions that arose in the states, and it would give us time away. They both fretted over me constantly – I was healing fine physically, but I could tell that they worried about my impulsive and irrational behavior during our mission. Every day Bucky spent hours with the doctors that Tony had brought to the facility as they tried to determine if H.Y.D.R.A. had done anything to his mind. As much as I had hoped for our kiss to be the gateway to something more – it hadn’t. Bucky kept his distance during the day – going so far as to avoid me, but stayed with me every night. By the time I woke up each morning he was always gone.  Several days passed and he kept up his disappearing act – always offering me comfort during the night, but vanishing before the morning.

Everything changed the night he had his nightmare.

I woke to Bucky screaming beside me. As I rolled over on my side I saw him writhing under some invisible force, his body soaked in sweat, as his chest heaved with exertion. I immediately remembered the last time he had a nightmare – the catalyst that made him finally leave. For a moment I laid frozen beside him – unsure as to what I should do. My heart ached – I couldn’t watch him suffer… I had to do something even if it put me in danger. I gently rested my head on his chest as I wrapped my arms around his waist. I laid quietly with him as his breathing slowed.

“Y/N?” he asked as panic cut into his voice.

“Shh… I’m here James. You’re safe,” I whispered softly as I ran my hand up and down his chest. He sighed shakily as I continued to comfort him.

“I…. I dreamed…” he whispered. Usually he didn’t talk about his dreams, but I had a pretty good idea as to what they consisted of.

“Shh…. It’s okay. It was just a dream,” I soothed as he drifted back to sleep.

I blinked sleepily as I turned to Bucky’s side of the bed. Disappointment struck me as I faced an empty bed yet again. I was certain that last night would have changed the way he was acting towards me. I huffed as I rolled onto my back to stare at the ceiling. The more time I spent with Bucky the more I wished for the normalcy and intimacy that we once had. I knew I couldn’t push it – it would either happen in time or it wouldn’t, but I found myself wishing time would hurry up. Steve and Tony had told me to give the case about my parents’ involvement with H.Y.D.R.A. a break – at least until I was well rested, and recovered. I didn’t argue with them at the time, but I longed for the distraction. A sudden knock at my door interrupted my internal complaining.

“What?” I snapped.

The door cracked open and Bucky stuck his head in shyly. “Is this not a good time?”

“Oh no… it’s fine. Sorry… I just woke up,” I apologized as I rubbed the remaining sleep from my eyes.

“Good, get dressed and meet me in the living room in thirty,” he added with a smile on his face before disappearing.

Thirty minutes later I walked into the living room to see a fidgeting Bucky sitting in front of the fire place. As soon as he saw me he smiled, and I couldn’t help but smile in return. “Ready?” he asked.

“For what?” I laughed. Seeing the carefree Bucky again lifted my spirits higher than they had been in months.

“You’ll see,” he responded as he grabbed my hand and guided me outside. The grounds outside of the compound were beautiful and quite expansive to add an extra layer of privacy for those that resided. Everything seemed empty today – it was a Saturday so no one was working, and Steve and Tony were away handling what they had vaguely referred to as a mission that I didn’t need to concern myself with.

I walked with Bucky hand-in-hand as he led me to a small area of the garden that was shielded from the view of outsiders by beautiful bushes. I gasped as we entered – he had set up a full picnic for us. As I plopped down on the blanket he had spread for us I couldn’t help but smile.

“There it is,” he whispered as he brushed my lips with his thumb. “I’ve missed that,” he added softly as a warm smile spread across his face. I blushed violently at this – unable to quell the emotions bursting inside of me. He laughed heartily as he turned his attention to preparing our food.

We sat in silence for awhile as we ate – Bucky never taking his eyes off of me. Finally, I turned to him and plucked up the courage to speak. “Bucky… I,” but he held up a hand.

“Me first — Y/N I’m sorry for being so distant. I’ve just been so afraid of hurting you again… but last night… When I woke up and you were there…. It was…. It reminded me of how much I need you…. How much I love you. I know I’ve made a mess of things and I know… I know it will take time for you to trust me again, but I…” He was interrupted by my lips crashing against his. He pulled back from the kiss looking dazed and confused.

“I told you… I’m not going anywhere,” I muttered softly as I stroked the stubble on his jaw. The corners of his mouth twitched as he fought back a smile. He moved so quickly and deliberately that he completely disarmed me and I fell backwards softly onto the blanket. He braced himself over me with his metal hand as his other stroked my cheek affectionately. His hand travelled down my arm and to my hand – playfully circling the ring that he had given me.

“If you thought you weren’t going to find me… why did you wear it?” he asked softly.

“To remind me of you,” I whispered back to him – echoing his own words from when he had presented it to me. He smiled at me sadly as he dropped his face lower to allow his lips to meet mine. As he deepened the kiss I ran my hands through his hair – twisting my fingers in it softly. For a moment we were in perfect harmony – the rest of the world and its problems dissolving around us. He pulled away all too soon with a serious look on his face.

“I know I promised you before that I wouldn’t leave… I know you have no reason to believe me… but I swear Y/N that I will never do it again. I don’t want to live in a world where I can’t wake up next to you,” he whispered sweetly.

“We should go back inside,” I replied softly.

“What? Why?” Bucky asked confused at the sudden change in the conversation.

“Because… we should go inside,” I repeated again as I kissed his jaw gently.

“Oh,” he responded as realization dawned across his face. He nimbly jumped to hit feet and offered me his hand. I winced slightly as he pulled me up – even after all this time my ribs still hurt and most likely would for the foreseeable future. We walked quietly back to my room hand-in-hand— Bucky’s hand fidgeting nervously around my own as we grew closer to my room.

Once we were inside my room I closed the door and locked it carefully before turning around to see Bucky standing hesitantly behind me.

“Are you sure?” he asked as he closed the gap between us.

“Yes,” I answered as my lips met his. He gently guided me to the bed as he helped me out of my shirt – letting out an appreciative sigh as he looked at me. He sat me gently on the bed and set to work removing the rest of my clothes with soft nimble movements before removing his own. As I scooted across the bed I took in the full scope of him – he was still covered in terrible bruises from his time with H.Y.D.R.A. – as I looked down at my own body I realized I was too.

As he laid beside me his fingers traced my bruises lightly. “I’m so sorry I let this happen to you,” he whispered apologetically before bringing his lips to mine. Everything about our movements was gentle, but urgent – not wanting to hurt the other, but deeply needing the contact we had once had. He braced himself above me as he planted soft kisses down my jaw and neck. He entered me slowly and gently as I gasped. My body was no longer familiar to him after his absence. “Are you okay?” he asked concerned. I nodded as I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him gently. We moved carefully and methodically – letting out soft moans of pleasure, and grunts of pain. It didn’t take either of us long before we reached our climax – our bodies tired and sore from the sudden exertion that they were no longer accustomed to. Bucky pulled me into his arms as I carefully rested my head on his chest – making sure I didn’t touch any of his more sensitive bruises. Before long we both drifted into a peaceful sleep.

The sound of knocking woke us up several hours later. “What?” I groaned exasperated at the door as if it could give me an answer. Bucky grunted in equal annoyance at the sudden intrusion of our privacy.

“It’s Steve – Fury found out more information on your parents,” Steve’s voice drifted from the other side.

And suddenly reality came crashing back around us.

take this burden - part 17

[ when I’m with you - Ben rector ]

-

They pulled into the driveway around six.

In the last hour, Mo Guan Shan had become steadily more anxious.

‘Ready?’ He Tian asked.

‘Not at all. You?’

‘Nope, but that’s never stopped me before.’

Mo Guan Shan smiled at that, nodding.

He Tian let himself out of the car, pocketing the keys and walking around to the other side, waiting for Mo Guan Shan.

When he didn’t move to open the door He Tian opened it for him, extending his hand.

‘Cowboy up, kid, let’s do this shit.’

Mo Guan Shan took He Tian’s hand and let himself be pulled from the car.

‘What the fuck does that mean?’

‘No idea. Jian Yi said it to me once and it made me get out of the car too.’

‘And to think, I thought you were the crazy one.’

He Tian laughed and began to drag him towards the front door.

They stopped on the porch.

Mo Guan Shan dug his keys from his pocket.

‘Why am I so nervous?’ He wondered out loud as he turned the key in the lock, steeling himself and pushing the door open.

Before they even had a chance to remove their shoes, someone threw their arms around Mo Guan Shan’s neck, fondly telling him he was an idiot and that she hated him.

She spotted He Tian, releasing her brother.

‘You’re not…’

‘No.’

‘Oh, good.’ She sighed, relieved.

‘I thought I was going to have to punch you.’

He Tian shrugged.

‘The night is young.’

Mo Guan Shan laughed.

His sister jerked her head around, looking at him in astonishment, and back to He Tian.

Before she could say anything they were joined by two more people.

His mother hugged him, nearly as excited as his sister had been but with tears in her eyes.

His dad did the same, kissing him on the side of the head.

They noticed He Tian at the same time, wearing matching looks of confusion.

‘Hey, let’s take this to the living room.’ Mo Guan Shan suggested.

His mom led them out of the small entryway.

‘Mom, dad, this is He Tian.’

No response.

‘I’m not who you think I am.’ He Tian informed them.

Mo Guan Shan’s dad chuckled.

‘We’re going to go get some drinks.’ He announced, dragging his wife from the room.

‘He Tian, this is Rou.’

She nodded, turning away and leading them to the middle of the room where she perched on a large armchair.

He Tian and Mo Guan Shan settled on the couch across from her.

She had long, red, hair and Mo Guan Shan’s eyes and looked about thirteen years old.

He only knew she was older because he’d been told.

She studied He Tian intently.

‘He’s super hot, where’d you find him?’

‘Rou, really?’

‘It’s ok.’ He Tian assured him.

‘She’s right. I am, in fact, super hot.’

Rou laughed.

Their parents joined them at exactly the right time, both of their kids smiling.

They passed out drinks, settling on the final piece of furniture, a large couch perpendicular to the three of them.

‘Can we just get to the bottom of this and avoid tiptoeing around it for the rest of the evening?’

Mo Guan Shan’s dad asked.

Mo Guan Shan nodded enthusiastically.

Mo Guan Shan: ‘As you all know, This is He Tian. We met recently. The man i left with is…out of the picture.’

Dad: ‘What happened to your face?’ His dad asked.

Mo Guan Shan: ‘Fight club.’

He Tian and Rou laughed.

The parents looked alarmed.

Rou: ‘Guys, he’s kidding.’

Mom: ‘Where are you staying?’

He Tian: ‘With two of my good friends.’

Dad: ‘What do they do?’

He Tian: ‘Jian Yi is an EMT. Zhan Zhengxi is a police officer.’

Dad: ‘And what do you do?’

He Tian: ‘I own a nightclub.’

Mo Guan Shan’s family collectively nodded approvingly.

Dad: ‘Are you moving back here?’

Mo Guan Shan: ‘I…I don’t think so. Not right now.’

Mom: ‘Are you two…together?’

No one in the room seemed opposed to that.

Mo Guan Shan: ‘Y-yeah.’

Whoa.

It seemed like the right thing to say at the time.

Mom: ‘anything else?’

Mo Guan Shan: I’m taking Felix.’

Rou: ‘bullshit!’

Mom: ‘it’s his cat. We can’t stop him.’

Mo Guan Shan: ‘I miss him.’

Dad: ‘I haven’t seen that cat in weeks.

Rou:'he’s been pouting since Guan Shan left.’

They ate dinner.

He Tian told them about his club.

They shared obligatory embarrassing stories about Mo Guan Shan.

Everyone drank just a little bit too much.

He Tian offered to help with dishes.

That’s what they do in the movies, right?

His help was refused in favor of Mo Guan Shan’s.

He Tian sat on the couch alone for a few minutes, planning to text Jian Yi and fill him in, when he was dragged from the room by Rou.

She led him up the stairs and onto the balcony outside her room.

‘Are you going to make me say it?’ She asked.

He sighed.

No pleasantries here.

‘I’m not going to hurt your brother. As long as I have anything to say about it, no one is.’

‘When did you two meet?’

He Tian had to think about that.

‘What day is it?’

‘Saturday…’

‘Then…Tuesday.’

‘You met him on Tuesday? Like…this Tuesday?’

‘Yep.’

‘So…this all happened pretty quick?’ She asked stupidly.

He Tian huffed out a laugh.

‘Oh yeah.’

‘And you two are a couple?’

‘Honestly, I have no idea.’

She nodded slowly.

‘Yeah, we’ve all been there.’

‘Any advice?’ He Tian asked sincerely.

‘About my brother?’

He Tian nodded.

‘Unfortunately, no. That man is an enigma.’

‘Helpful.’

She laughed.

‘I like you. I think you’re good for him.’

‘I like you too. And I am.’

She smiled, taking a drink.

‘You should come to Vegas, check up on him. I know you’re worried.’

‘You’re just saying that.’ She accused.

‘I’m really not. I have an extra room, and if you’re not comfortable with that I’ll put you up in a hotel.’

‘Are you serious?’

‘Deadly.’

‘Fine. I’ll drive down next weekend.’

‘Should I book you a hotel room?

‘No, I’ll stay with you.’

'Alright.’

Their names were called from downstairs.

'They’re taking shots. Prepare yourself for the person Mo Guan Shan becomes when he starts on the tequila.’ She teased.

He Tian blinked at her.

'That’s a fucking ominous.’

'Yeah, that sounded bad. He just becomes uncharacteristically affectionate. It’s cute. Sometimes.’

Shit.

That is very ominous indeed.

He had to get a handle on this. He was barely holding it together as it was.

'Where’s the restroom?’ He asked as they let themselves inside.

She pointed him through a door to the right.

'See you downstairs.’

He closed himself in the bathroom, checking the lock several times before sinking to his knees on the soft rug and struggling with his belt.

Any doubts he had about masturbating in a total stranger’s bathroom went out the window when he managed to free himself from his jeans.

Knowing it was awful, he thought about Mo Guan Shan.

His body, each time he’d seen it, bruises and all.

His eyes when he smiled.

The way he bit his lip when he was nervous.

The way he’d offered to…He Tian couldn’t even complete the thought.

It took less than a minute.
He stood.

Fixing his clothing.

Washing his hands.

Splashing his face with cool water.

And sat on the edge of the tub, getting his breathing under control until it was time to join the world of the living.

When he entered the room, Mo Guan Shan looked at him in confusion.

Rou winked obnoxiously, quickly holding her hands up to show she was joking.

Their parents didn’t look up at all.

He resumed his place next to Mo Guan Shan.

‘You ok?’

He Tian nodded.

'Yeah, just tired.’

Feeling Mrs. Mo’s eyes on them, He Tian turned Mo Guan Shan around by the shoulders and pulled him against his chest.

For the act, of course.
Mo Guan Shan placed one hand over He Tian’s and the other on his thigh.

He Tian reached down, toying with the hem of the shirt that, before Wednesday, no one else had ever worn.

His knuckles grazed the warm skin of Mo Guan Shan’s stomach.

The redhead tightened his fingers on He Tian’s thigh and he was beyond relieved that he’d just…taken care of himself.

Otherwise he’d have made Mo Guan Shan uncomfortable.

No one wants to be poked in the back with an erection with their parents in the room.

Eventually, the movie ended.

Mo Guan Shan’s mom announced that she and her husband were going to bed and that, obviously Rou would be taking her room and Mo Guan Shan and He Tian would be sharing his.
‘I don’t mind sleeping on the couch.’ He Tian told her, secretly wishing she’d buy into it.

'It’s ok, dear. It’s not like you’re going to get him pregnant.’

Rou laughed so hard she needed to sit back down.

Wow, mom.’

Mo Guan Shan’s dad shook his head, leading her from the room.

I’d blame it on the alcohol, but she’s always like this.’

Rou excused herself, bidding them goodnight and disappearing up the stairs.

The other two followed.

Mo Guan Shan had managed to drink quite a bit while He Tian was gone and needed a little bit of help up the stairs.

Rou pointed He Tian in the direction of the room, telling him if he hit the coat closet he’d gone too far.

He Tian’s heart sank when they finally pushed through the door.

He had a twin bed.

And that was if he was being generous.

Honestly, he had no idea how even one adult could fit in that bed, much less two.

He sent Mo Guan Shan to the bathroom, telling him to take a shower, and trying to figure out the most comfortable way to sleep on the floor.

Eventually, he gave up.

They’d shared a bed last night, surely tonight would be no different.

Afew minutes later, Mo Guan Shan emerged in nothing but a towel, running a hand through his wet hair.

I can go grab your clothes from the car.’ He Tian offered weakly.

Mo Guan Shan shook his head.

He reached the bed and dropped his towel.

Oh, for fuck’s sake.

'Mo Guan Shan, will you please…’
Before he could continue his protest, Mo Guan Shan climbed onto the mattress and straddled He Tian’s lap.

No.

No no no.

This is NOT how it’s going down.

He Tian laughed shakily.

I’m really tired, can we talk about this tomorrow?’

Mo Guan Shan shook his head, leaning down to kiss him.

He Tian had gone through rehab for one of the most addictive drugs in the world, and this was the most difficult thing he’d ever had to turn down.

He stopped Mo Guan Shan, pushing him away gently with two hands on his chest.

Mo Guan Shan, we’re not…’

The redhead sat up quickly, frustrated.

He Tian, if you’re not-’

Nope.

He Tian placed a hand on his lower back, using his other arm to steady himself and his legs for leverage, he got Mo Guan Shan on his back before he could register what was happening.

He leaned over Mo Guan Shan, gripping his jaw to keep him still and lowering his voice.

'Mo Guan Shan, I have never, NEVER wanted anything more than I want you, but you’re not ready. When I do fuck you - when, not if - we are going to be alone, and you are going to be, at least mostly, sober. There will be no doubt in my mind that you want it, and you won’t lose a second of it to any mind altering substance.

Mo Guan Shan stared up at him, but didn’t interrupt.

'I know, for the most part, you’re intentions are good. But you need to understand something. I am not a nice person. I have made nothing but bad choices, but I am NOT doing this with you. Stop pushing me or we will both regret it. Do you fucking understand?’

Am I the only one that doesn’t get a say in when I sleep with you?’ Mo Guan Shan asked, clearly becoming frustrated.

He Tian climbed off him.

'As of right now, yes. Put your clothes on and go to sleep. We’ll talk about this tomorrow.’

Mo Guan Shan said nothing as he stood, collecting his clothes from the bathroom and dressing quickly.

Several minutes later, they were back to back on the tiny mattress.

I’m sorry.’ Mo Guan Shan whispered.

'So am I.’

Little Mermaid AU

Or I guess more LM inspired? An idea I don’t know if I’ll do, it’s a fun idea but not one I feel passionate enough to do. Maybe sometime? But if anyone wants to tackle it instead, go ahead.

So…

  • Mers and humans have a neutral dislike to each other.
  • Mers are said to either lead humans astray or drown them.
  • Humans are said to capture mer and keep them as exotic pets, or take them with the intent to get their lovely scales.
  • And both are described to be very vain, willing to kill for treasure.
  • Either way, both races are warned to stay away from the other.
  • Marinette is a rare sea witch, anything she makes brings the wearer good luck and has a rejuvenating power in her touch.
  • Her power is well known enough that King Andre seeks to have her be apart of his court, and desires for her to help his daughter Princess Chloe rule when she takes the throne (they don’t get along though).
  • Marinette likes to slip out into the open ocean, gather materials to make her lucky trinkets.
  • This trip, she slips out during a coming storm; same as a lonely Adrien is running away from home slips out onto rough waters, missing the signs of the coming storm.
  • The storms overwhelms Adrien and he’s tossed under the waves unconscious, giving Marinette quite the fright when the water shoved him right next to her.
  • It is pure instinct that pushes Marinette to save him.
  • And once he’s safe on shore and breathing, she has a few minutes of relief before it clicks in her head what she just did.
  • She saved a human.
  • She saved a human.
  • That is one of the biggest no’s no’s in the mer kingdom! (maybe just go ahead and call it Paris? idk)
  • AND SHE SAVED A HUMAN.
  • Marinette has her freak out, afraid she may get kicked out of the kingdom and will have to live alone like most other sea witches (they usually live alone because of abuse power).
  • Unconscious Adrien moves and Marinette has a start, calming down and actually taking this human in.
  • This is her real first time being close to a human, she’s seen them at a distance, with Alya dragging her and Nino up to the surface to watch humans from afar, live on the edge of danger; but this human didn’t seem dangerous.
  • He was actually kind of handsome for a human, and she gives into her curiosity instead of her caution and explores him.
  • But her probing (looking at ears and eyes) rouses Adrien and he catches sight of a mer looming over him.
  • Cue Adrien freak out cause he’s heard so many stories about mers and there was one with him.
  • Marinette gets scared and flees back into the water, going as far away as possible and doesn’t calm down till she felt she was far away enough. Then she reassures herself. No one knows she saved a human. She wasn’t going to see that human again. She was undeniably curious, but she should just let the current take this episode away.
  • She was not going to see that human again and just go on living life.
  • Only, Adrien was still frozen, his mind locked on the mythical being he saw, a being that didn’t kill him like so many warned they would, a being that saved him.
  • Adrien was intrigued and curious.
  • And he always followed his curiosity.
  • Cue Adrien trying to refind that mer.

And to do so, probably comes across the sea witch Hawkmoth who was kicked out of the mer kingdom and wants to rule it. He makes a deal with Adrien, he’ll turn him into a mer in return for… I guess his voice but I don’t know if voice would be a good choice? Maybe?

This is pretty how far I got on this idea, with mer!Adrien refinding Marinette and her having an internal freak out cause yes, that human came back into her life and he’s a mer for some reason and he doesn’t know mer customs and this is a huge mess with Adrienette slow burn.

What happens hence forth… I dunno. This is the basics I have for a LM inspired fic. It’s on my maybe list atm. If anyone wants to tackle the idea, all I ask is that you let me know, I’d like to see it.

FOCUS ON... JOHN HARLAN KIM

Our latest ‘FOCUS ON’ feature interview is with  Australian actor John Harlan Kim. Kim has journeyed from the familiar sights of Ramsay Street on Neighbours, to become a valued Librarian on the hit TNT show, The Librarians.

Hi John, how’s your visit home been?
Unreal! Always good to get home for the Summer and see all my mates and the family. Mom was stoked to have me back but now I’m pretty sure she’s getting over it and probably ready for me to head back to the States!

We’ve just seen the season 3 finale of The Librarians. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. Your character Ezekiel has grown over the years, matured, what’s the journey been like over that time?
It’s weird. Here’s a character I never thought would grow. It was apparent that he suffered from some type of Peter Pan syndrome. But over the seasons we’ve seen more and more that it’s just a guard he has set up and I think people can relate to Ezekiel in that way, that having walls up is a normal human thing to do. He has the most to prove yet he acts like he doesn’t care but we’re seeing more and more that he truly does care, especially about his new family.

Can you relate to Ezekiel in any way?
I’ve grown up with the show myself so that’s probably one of the coolest parts, to not only see Ezekiel grow up and mature with each script but also needing to have to do that myself albeit on a less grander scale because obviously I’m not fighting dragons and minotaurs in my personal life. My problems are a little more realistic like trying to score a date or not over-cooking my eggs.

Has there been an episode that stood out as a favourite?
Point of Salvation. Hands down. The cast were so supportive that ep as was Jonathan Frakes and Jeremy Bernstein. They put me in an environment where I felt confident enough to make choices and take creative risks. I think it all came together really well in the end and I couldn’t be prouder.

Tell us about your relationship with the other Librarians.
Lindy [Booth] and Christian [Kane] set great examples for me, they’re always there for me (Lindy & Rebecca have even housed me at one stage) and they’re just good people to be around. And with Noah [Wyle], I couldn’t be more amped to work with. He’s phenomenal at what he does and I have a lot of respect for the way he handles the pressure whether as an actor, producer, director or writer. He’s awesome. I really couldn’t be in a better position with the cast I have.

And the dynamic between the Librarians and their Guardian, as well as Jenkins? It’s a great technique, incorporating different roles to cover a variety of plot lines.
Rebecca Romijn and John Larroquette make it way too easy to play! They’ve both had long and successful careers in the industry and it was easy to see why from the moment I got to Portland. I love working with them. It’s fun because you’re right, when we have such a wide variety of plot lines to cover splitting up the team becomes necessary to keep on top of it all. Every script I get, it’s exciting! One day I’ll be sitting on a magic council with Larroquette, the next I’ll be beating up zombies along with Romijn!

The episodes are always so unique and interesting, when you first read each script how do you feel? I’d imagine much like the audience, fascinated, but excited as your character experiences it.
One of my favorite parts about the whole thing is getting the next episode’s script. The writers on our show are top flight and they do a spectacular job in conveying their vision onto paper and keeping things fresh and interesting! Like I mentioned, you don’t know what you’ll be doing or where your character will get to travel to, all you know for sure is it won’t be boring!

There are some harder themes, for example in season 3 the team deals with the resolution of Cassandra’s tumour. In contrast, what was it like filming those scenes? As a viewer it was tense!
To an extent, it definitely felt like a shock to the system! Showing up that day was such a different type of shooting day for us. I wasn’t used to coming in and filming something so somber but being the incredible talent she is, Lindy absolutely killed it!

Were there any other scenes that presented a challenge in terms of emotional response? Like the finale?
Yeah I mean Flynn’s ultimate sacrifice was rough. And I had already read what was going to happen and I still got anxious watching it! That and Charlene’s goodbye. Jane Curtin’s a star, I loved having her around.

And what about training for the more physical combat roles, what was that like? Did you enjoy it?
Definitely. I got to live out a bit of a youth dream with that vampire ep. And to do it alongside Christian Kane who is well-versed in vampire combat himself. I mean, come on! How lucky am I!? Our stunt guys Tim Eulich and Buster Reeves were a dream to work with and they’re absolute legends as well.

Over the seasons, what’s one of your favourite moments working on the ‘The Librarians’ set?
My first day. Noah Wyle and the jewel theft scene. It still feels like a dream, such a surreal moment. I haven’t lost that feeling yet and I hope I never do. I never want to be jaded.

Do you have an idea as to what The Librarians will go through in the upcoming series? What would you like to see happen next, for all the librarians and specifically Ezekiel?
Zero idea. They’re good at keeping pretty secretive about all of that stuff. I’d love to see Ezekiel continue to evolve into the Librarian he’s going to be someday. He’s far from being fully-realized and has the most growing up to do so to see him take that next step would be awesome.

The Librarians has been renewed for a fourth season, what do you think makes the series so successful?
Our showrunners. John Rogers and now Dean Devlin. They’re the pulse of the show. I don’t really need to say anymore, they’re extraordinary at what they do and they’re two of the best men I’ll ever come across, by every measurement of the word.

Is there any other role you’d like to take on from a book or comic? Or another series you’d also like to be a part of?
Amadeus Cho. I’ve always wanted to be a humungous, green giant.

Did you always want to be an actor?
I decided at 15 I wanted to be an actor so I took a class, auditioned for my first gig and booked it. I then took that pay check from my first acting gig, coupled that with money saved from working at a charcoal chicken store and flew to New York in my school holidays. I knocked on the door to a film school building in Manhattan and told the concierge I wanted to be an actor and he told me to go find my parents. I think he thought I was lost.

On your down time what other things do you enjoy doing?
I love shooting hoops, hitting the water and playing video games. I picked up boxing a few months ago too but my heads so big, it makes it ridiculously hard to dodge punches.

How does working overseas compare to working here at home in Australia?
The biggest difference I’ve found is the pacing. I can’t speak for either industry as a whole but my experience on Neighbours was a much more fast-paced environment than something like The Librarians. It was actually a fantastic way to learn to nail your first few takes and within that, I found preparation was key so I make sure to show up to any set now with my lines absolutely ingrained into my brain so that the real fun can begin once you start shooting.

What advice do you have for actors, especially Australians wanting to make it in the industry and overseas?
Trust your choices. It’s so easy to second guess if you’re on the right path or not but just back yourself and everything else will fall into place.

And finally, what can we expect from you next?
I’m actually in the middle of editing my first project right now so I’m hoping to complete that before we start work on Season 4! Way too excited to see that finished and then to get to go back to work with Dean & the gang is going to be an absolute blast as always!

Thank you so much for your time John. We can’t wait to see you on screen in 2017!

I’m what people refer to as an “anti-sjw”. It’s not something I identify as, but I don’t imagine anyone really gives a shit what I identify as. The truth is that it is an umbrella that covers many different groups of people and I happen to fit under the umbrella whether I like it or not.

Long intro is long…

What I meant to say is that I am an anti-sjw, but there are many things that I am not.

I’m not racist. Big whoop, right? Gold star for not being the lowest hanging fruit of bigots. I don’t think white people are superior to any other race. I don’t think any other race is inferior to white people. I judge people based on who they are and what they prove themselves to be, not skin color.

I’m not sexist. Another big whoop. Anyone with a decent mother should understand the power of women. It really only takes meeting one solitary good woman to realize that, though we may have SOME differences, we are two sides of the human coin. We are the yin and yang.

I’m not homophobic. This is probably the thing I’m accused of the least, for whatever reason. I guess it may be because gays include white cis men, which puts them low on the progressive stack. I see no reason to judge people based on which sex they are attracted to. Some people say it’s a choice, some people say it’s not, I don’t think it matters at all.

I’m not transphobic. I’ve done enough basic internet searching to know that trans people are valid. Whether it’s a mental illness or some sort of physical condition, trans people have valid reasons for wanting to transition. I believe they should be allowed to transition, preferably having it covered by health insurance and whatnot. At least the basics.

Now, I’m sure you’re thinking at least one of two things. I either didn’t cover every type of discrimination, including one that you face, or that claiming not to be bigoted is a big fucking red flag.

I get it, when people used to say “I’m not racist” I pretty much automatically assumed that they probably were. The thing is, the political tide has shifted in a very strange direction. We live in an age where, in the western world, people actually have to defend themselves against accusations of being a bigot due to there being some sort of anti-bigotry witch hunt.

On some level, I appreciate it. I was someone who considered themselves a progressive and I still consider myself a liberal. Putting social pressure on people to purge bigotry from their lives is a good thing. What’s bad is that we have stopped caring about actual bigotry. We’re now on some superficial level of bigotry where small problems often get more attention than larger issues, which are more of an afterthought. This is a problem.

Not just a problem for us cishet white males who actually do care about people other than themselves. It’s also a problem for everyone who is effected by bigotry. There are only two ways this trend can go and I’m pretty sure I know which one is going to win out. Either bigotry of all kinds will begin to lose meaning, as they already are beginning to do, or some sort of neo-Marxist dystopian society will emerge and destroy society.

I don’t want either of these things to happen, but let’s be perfectly fucking realistic here. The whole neo-Marxist dystopia isn’t going to happen. What’s going to happen, what IS happening, is an uprising from the right-wing. This is not inherently bad, I’m not trying to be alarmist.

The left and right both have good ideas as far as I’m concerned and the right-wing has progressed a lot in the past 100 years for people who scorn labels like “progressive”. The problem is that the far-left is what triggered the uprising. The pendulum swings, as we all know, and far-left won’t swing to progressive conservative. It will eventually swing to the far-right.

This is why I made this post. As far as any of you know, I’m really not a bigot. I’m really not racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic. So why make the leap into assuming that I am? I’m not saying that you should believe that every person is good in this world.

Bad people exist. Bigotry is real. The thing is that you just can’t assume everyone is a bigot based on faulty logic and far below standard reasoning. Be reasonable. Good people exist too.
