i have a lot of lion king feels

Here's the beautiful thing about theatre:

It’s always changing. Shows come and go and, as much as that hurts sometimes (Tuck I’m looking at you), it’s also a good thing. Because when one show closes, another opens. You have your staples that will be (or seem to be) there forever, like Phantom and Wicked, and you have those shows that maybe their run isn’t as long as others, but they can impact people in major ways like Newsies and Next to Normal. You have the shows whose legacies live on like Les Mis and you have the shows whose legacy is only beginning, such as Dear Evan Hansen. Theatre is ever expanding and different and growing and I don’t know I’m just having a lot of theatre feels today.

anonymous asked:

Headcanons for stupid things Dick and Wally have probably done at Mount Justice or at the mall?

Oh my god

Okay so when the team doesn’t know what Dick’s first name is, Wally likes to call Dick a variety of names that are not his. Peter, David, Steven, etc.

He called Dick John once by accident and it almost made Dick cry. He stopped with the random names after that in favor of calling him Robert.

When they are out and about with nonsupes, Dick likes doing things faster than Wally because he knows Wally cannot use his super speed. All that “too slow” bullshit.

Wally 300% has lost Dick at the mall and called him a little shit over the intercom.

So many short jokes at Dick’s expense.

So many

They have done the Titanic thing at Ikea and Conner left them there.

Wally likes to serenade Dick with horrible loves songs at different points in time.

He walked up behind Dick once while he was talking to Zee and started belting “Can you feel the love tonight?”

Dick got him back by sneaking into his room at 3 am and blasting “The Circle of Life.”

Needless to say neither of them looks at the Lion King the same after those events.

There antics continue as they grow older.

“You know, I can take you a lot more seriously now that you have focused on just one primary color.” “Says the walking hot dog stand.”

Wally will totally stand behind Dick and mimic his stance and Nightwing face.

Oh my god Wally also likes to call Nightwing “Batman Jr.” and “The Batbaby.” (He calls Tim “The Babybat” and insists those are entirely different names and you cannot mix them up or else.)

I think that is all I got for now lol

Voltron 84 & Beast King Golion

Just in case anyone is interested, I thought I would post which Beast King Golion episodes correspond to the Voltron 84 episodes that were just put up on Netflix.

A tiny bit of history in case anyone is confused. Golion is a Japanese anime that came out in 1981 done by Toei Animation. The rights were bought by World Events Productions (an American animation and distribution studio), who not only dubbed the anime, but sliced and diced the episodes to cut out some of the darker elements of Golion and significantly change some of the plot. This was released as Voltron: Defenders of the Universe in 1984.

So the 12 episodes that are currently on Netflix under the title Voltron 84 are selected episodes (in no particular order) of Voltron: Defenders of the Universe.

It’s fun to watch them together with their Golion counterparts and see just how much they changed. Personally, I like Golion better so far (I haven’t gotten through all the Voltron 84 episodes, although I have watched all of Golion). It is darker in a lot ways and quite violent at times, but I feel like the plots make more sense, and I like the feel of the characters better (also the voice acting is significantly better).

You can watch Golion here on crunchyroll.com.

Voltron 84 / Beast King Golion

There are some very significant differences between Golion and Voltron, and in the hopes of helping people who don’t want to watch all of Golion not be confused, I’m putting them under the cut (in case anyone doesn’t want spoilers for an anime that came out in `81 - also some of these are dark, and there is some sexual content).

King Alfor was the Red Paladin

I know, I know “Bruh”, you say, but let me explain.

Which lion did the Galra have at the beginning of the series?

Red, it’s an easy answer, but why? Why did they have this one? It’s easy enough to say that they found it, but what if they didn’t?

We have no physical evidence either way, but we do know several key facts.

We know that during Altea’s final battle with Zarkon Voltron had been disbanded and the lions were going to be sent away. We also know that king Alfor put Allura to sleep before the conclusion of the battle and Coran likely soon followed her into the cryo pods.

But what happened to the castle of Lions? Where did king Alfor go and how did the castle get onto the planet Arus, where it remained for the next 10,000 years?

In addition, if the other lions were so well hidden that it took all of this time to find the blue one on earth then how the heck did they acquire the red one?

If Alfor was the red paladin then most of these questions are suddenly and clearly answered.

We know that the king died but we don’t know how and we don’t know where. If he was the red paladin, then it would have only been logical that he would have sent off the other lions he could and then boarded his own to make sure that he could guarantee their escape.

“But wait!”, you say, “The castle still had the black lion”.

This too can be explained. We know that Zarkon had an extremely deep connection with this lion. So, it’s not a stretch that Alfor would have been afraid of sending off the lion only to have it fly back to it’s previous master. Logically the safest place in the universe for that lion would have been in the castle itself (which we know has defense systems that can be set up to operate on their own.) I think that Alfor’s plan was likely securing the other lion’s safety and then returning to the castle after hiding his own.

Regardless of what it was, we know that his plan failed.

“But what about color coding?” you say.

While the color of the last outfit we last see king Alfor in is predominantly yellow, this simply doesn’t have anything to do with what lion he would have piloted. While the main cast is clearly color coded to their respective lions, what Alfor is wearing merely follows the color pallet of all other Altean clothing we’ve seen so far.

And if it were that simple, you could also argue for the blue lion because he has a blue scarf.

What’s far more likely is that, being a king, Alfor simply would have had a far different uniform then the typical paladin.

Another thing to note is the fact that we know Lance will pilot the red lion at some point in the upcoming season and he is still wearing his original blue outfit.

“But how can you be so certain?” you ask. “This is all circumstantial”.

Well…

During the second season episode,“The Ark of Taujeer”, we see Coran attempting to pilot the red lion after Keith and Allura have, for various reasons, run off.

As he is going to do this he says, “Finally Alfor, I will walk in your footsteps”. While this is a comedic scene and treated like a throw away line it is beyond telling. It establishes that Alfor was definitely a paladin at some point and the fact that it is used in relation with the red lion is huge.

This would also not be the first time the writers have had a small line in a previous season have a large bearing on a future episode. Take for instance Coran briefly mentioning a creature named a Weblum in the first season. In the next season we have an entire episode titled  “The Belly of the Weblum”, centered around said animal that is integral to the conclusion of the whole season’s plot line.

Sooooo to conclude, while by themselves these pieces are interesting, together I think they more then prove my point.

South Africa is indeed one of the best places to explore wildlife and get close to lions, rhinos, elephant, buffalos and other kinds of animals.

Almost 3 weeks ago I was able to have a close encounter with some wild animals. I never thought I would be able to experience such an amazing thing. This was just one of those dreams which I never imagined could come true one day. I know it has been a few weeks since that day but everything still feels as if it was just yesterday. This was indeed a once in a lifetime experience.

I flew to Johannesburg with my aunt and we had planned on visiting Pilanesberg National Park on our second day there. We woke up as early as 5am since we will be picked up at out hotel by 7am. We rode an open jeepney which was thrilling yet nerve-racking at the same time. If you’re gonna ask how was it like to be there or how my experience was… I got one word for you: Amazing. Absolutely amazing! I couldn’t get enough of it. I wanted to take lots of photos but at the same time just enjoy watching those beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. It was fascinating. Lion King feels all over!

Pilanesberg National Park is one of the places where you could find what they called “The Big Five”. We were lucky enough to see four of them. Lions, rhinos, buffalos and elephant. Leopards are hard to find so we were not able to see that one.

There were other animals that I have never seen before and I am not familiar with that we were able to see. We got to see some impalas, wild beest, giraffe, zebras and some hippos. We got to see a pride of lions and it was the most amazing thing. We didn’t get to take good photos of it though as they were hiding in the bushes and there were other jeepneys and cars along the way. But still, you don’t get to see that everyday and I’m so lucky to be able to witness such thing.

I am impressed by our guide as his eyes were so sharp. He could easily spot where the animals are even though they were down below the mountains or miles away from us. We got to see an elephant from afar. The guide says it would take the elephant around 45 mins to reach the road.

I guess one of the highlights of my safari trip was when we saw tons of buffalos migrating and crossing from east to west. The guide said that the last time he was able to see them was around June of last year. Since it was almost winter time there, animals are already migrating. It was one of the most stunning things I have ever seen.

Words aren’t enough to describe this trip and how I truly felt about it. I’m so thankful to my aunt for letting me experience these kind of things. I truly believe that nothing can ever beat this trip. You just can’t top it off.

amatusendura  asked:

What do you think are the Turtles favorite Disney movies and why?

This ask took a while to respond to, I know, but I wanted all the mods to have a chance to answer this! Sorry for the long wait!

Mod Armor:

  • Leo would love Mulan because HONOR TO US ALL
  • I think Mikey would really love Rapunzel from Tangled (because she’s adventurous, optimistic and an overall sweet heart)
  • Donnie, I could see liking Jasmine from Aladdin because she’s sassy and straight forward and independent
  • As for Raph, he would like Merida from Brave since she kicks ass and isn’t afraid to pick a fight with anyone

Mod Kim:

  • mm I guess for Leo, it would be sure Mulan
  • Raph, I think it would be The Little Mermaid
  • Donnie, probably the Beauty and The Beast
  • Mikey? He loves them all!

Mod Rook:

  • Raph- Hunchback of Notre Dame. He liked the story. He’d be lying if he didn’t say he had a crush on Esmeralda growing up as well.
  • Leo would likely be Hercules. The whole hero thing. Or Treasure Planet for space.
  • Donnie
  • Mikey would love all and probably re-enact the opening from the Lion King a lot with Ice Cream Kitty.

Mod Yaka:

I feel like the turtles would have more than one (I’m sorry I’m gonna be one of those people) so;

  • Leo would adore Mulan, Hercules, Robin Hood, Aladdin, and Brother Bear because of the importance of honor and family. Doing what it takes for the benefit of others even if it doesn’t benefit themselves, wanting to help others.
  • Raph would probably like Brave, Up, Wreck-It Ralph, Tarzan, and A Bug’s Life. He’d probably like them because of all the challenges they face, how they deal with it, and the change they see within themselves.
  • Donnie would like Beauty and the Beast, Wall-E, and Big Hero 6 because it would intrigue the heck outta him. Using smarts, something people look down on in preference of looks, not being afraid to do what you want and stepping out of the comfort zone for a new life, and how amazing technology can impact one’s life and lives of others.
  • Mikey would adore so many, like The Fox and the Hound, Lilo & Stitch, Peter Pan, Finding Nemo, Chicken Little, Inside Out, and Toy Story. He’d like them because of how different a life can be, the perspectives, the plots, and the passion to overcome the obstacles in life no matter how hard.
  • It’s not asked, but if there were (a) movie(s) they’d all enjoy, it’d be the Lion King, the Princess and the Frog, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille, and Zootopia

This page was a lot more enjoyable when it was short unpopular opinions on normal everyday things, like

“Pizza is gross” or “Lion king 2 was better than the first one” etc.

Its kinda shitty that coming on this blog now makes me feel like a highschool teacher reading shitty 10th grader essays on social justice issues that are hardly even a thing outside of tumblr. I wanna read about normal quirks that people have!

“The Lion King is my all time favourite Disney movie, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight is my all time favourite scene, but I can’t help but feel like it should have been longer. I mean, here are two best friends, one of whom thought the other was dead, finally reuniting after years apart, and realizing along the way that they love each other and that they mean a lot to each other. I wish the song went deeper and tapped into those feelings. Maybe I’m asking too much?”

Sometimes I feel as though we as Black men in society have forgotten our roles. Not all of us but a lot of us have. It’s sort of like Simba from the movie Lion King…After Mufasa (his father, representation of fatherhood, role model, and direction) died Simba got lost in the wilderness forgetting that he was supposed to be King. There’s a number of reasons for the black male struggle in society and to be quite honest I don’t think anyone will truly truly understand what it is like unless you live the life of a black boy attempting to go from a boy to a man. Between mass incarceration, police harassment, homicide, employment struggle, constant demonizing of character, lack of role models, exploitation, a society that attempts to emasculate every chance it gets, and negative media influenced stereotypes. It has the whole world scared of the black male thinking he’s nothing but a menace to society. This post is not for a pity party or an excuse for what needs to be done. This post is a reminder to Black men of what your purpose is supposed to be. PROTECT your family and protect your community. Man’s role has always been to protect since the beginning hunter and gatherer stages. TEACH, a man is supposed to be a teacher someone the youth can look to for direction. BUILD, we are supposed to build our community not destroy it. Building the community involves action to ensure the community is always moving in the best direction. Last but not least LOVE. Love yourself, your children, and your community…Love, Respect, Protect, and Care for the Black woman. Black man, Black boy know your self-worth…

puffy-shirt  asked:

Okay, here's just an idea I had... But what about a historical Nala done in the style of the Broadway Lion King? Like with the lion head piece and then historical African clothing? I don't know just something that I think would be really stunning :)

A lot of people have suggested this, oddly enough! This always seems a bit weird for me to lay out, but the reason I haven’t done this (or just drawn Nala in Himba garb, par example) is that there’s no challenge in it. Or, if there is, it’s at its best an arbitrary one. If that makes sense. Julie Taymor is a costuming goddess- I feel like trying to impose particular cultural/historical context onto her costumes does a disservice to the conscious, respectful thought and design that went into that entire production.  At least for me! I’m sure others would love to do this, but I personally get no satisfaction from it. :)

This series was born out of a love for the Disney pantheon, yes, but more importantly it was born out of a love for historical costuming, and the challenge I got from breaking down a costume into its most basic elements and rebuilding it in a new, refreshed context.  I’m less concerned about being able to check characters off of some massive checklist- and oh it is a massive checklist- and more about stretching my character/costume design muscles.

This series rapidly became, and continues to be, something of an obligation for me- I’m fighting against the urge to sate people’s requests and really trying to make sure that I’m focusing on what about this series makes me happy, and makes me feel artistically fulfilled.  Esmeralda, Alice, Merida, Elsa and so many others have already been designed, but they’re just wasting away on my hard drive because I’m caught in a limbo where I’m tired of finishing these pieces in a style of mine from three years ago.  It’s very weird.

There’s a reason why characters like Captain Amelia and Princess Kidagakash are on my “not interested” list- yes, it could be fun to draw either of these characters in historical costuming, but it’s a different challenge than the particular one I’m attacking with this series. I don’t want to force myself to take on characters if it’s not what I was trying to do in the first place. Not right now, anyway. :)

Sorry to use your ask as a jumping off point for a rant, aagh! I have just been thinking this a lot lately and needed to get it off of my chest.

Advice: how to let go of childish notions and become responsible, grow up

I bet everyone expects Peter Pan for this one… BUT NO

I do think The Lion King is the right choice here for giving you some guidance. Growing up is tough. I still do not feel grown up and an adult, and I am 25. Simba’s life growing up wasn’t easy. He had the trauma of his father’s death to deal with, and leaving his homeland. He dealt with a lot of this by basically staying childish for many years — having fun and not paying much attention to responsibilities.

Accepting the weight of our responsibilities, though, is a huge part of what growing up is. Growing up isn’t about never making mistakes, being perfect, or having a documented plan for your life. It’s about realizing the impact you have on everyone around you, and not being afraid to deal with that weight.

It took Simba a while, but he eventually realized that he had a responsibility to help out his family and friends. He didn’t know how he was going to save Pride Rock, but he knew he at least owed it to them to try.

You don’t have to pass every test or class, or exceed expectations at every job you start, or pay every bill on time, but you should try and do all these things first before engaging in the things you love doing, but which might be distracting. Eat all the grubs you want, but give your evil, usurping uncle a needed talking-to first. Adult responsibilities seem overwhelming sometimes but when you tackle them one by one, it’s not so bad.

And to take a page from Johnny Tsunami, in which Johnny thought he would be a surfer but ended up a snowboarder, it’s true that not every childhood plan on careers, family and life are going to pan out. But this isn’t a bad thing.

Remember though, you can never grow down. Sing hakuna matata out loud in public with your friends while you can :)

edit: and just to be clear… sing until you’re 101. There’s a difference between being childish in a bad way (blaming others for your mistakes, refusing responsibility) and being childish in a good way (making magic for other people). Don’t let anyone make you feel silly about making magic. Those are often the best sort of adults, the ones who don’t let go of that.

“My sisters favorite movie has always been Lion King. When she disowned the rest of us it broke my heart. But when I feel really sad I play the opening song and I listen to it on repeat and try not to cry. She is everything to me and she hasn’t talked to me in three years not have I seen my niece and nephew. Needless to say I’ve watched Lion King one and two a lot lately”
