If our hearts are never broken, then there’s no joy in the mending
“Last year,” he starts, and Rachel looks up at him as they’re leaving Breadstix, hand in hand (as always). “Last year… you remember it, right?”
She furrows her brow, unsure of where it’s going, and to be honest, Finn’s not sure either. “Yes, though I try not to dwell on it too much. Except for the lovely necklace you gave me.”
He smiles at that, and she leans into his side as he squeezes her hand. “Yeah. I uh… Fireworks."
Sometimes words come to him, and sometimes they don’t, and though he’s been planning this out in his head for most of the night (except when he was dancing with Rachel, because come on, he didn’t want to stand on her feet), he’s forgotten his speech.
Rachel gulps and squeezes his hand even tighter, and she nods while he opens and closes his mouth like an idiot. "Do we have to do this right now?”
“When I kissed Quinn, it was all about being in the moment,” he says quickly, and they stop walking so he can look at her properly. “When we kissed, I didn’t think about anything other than, well, you know, kissing her.” He uses his free hand to rub the back of his neck. “But when I kiss you, Rach, I feel…”
She stands on the tips of her toes and lays one on him while he’s trying to string a few words together, and he literally lets out an ‘oomph’ sound, because she has this insane, magical ability to steal all the air from his lungs.
“I feel everything,” he manages to whisper when they break apart, and her eyes glisten in the light of the moon. “I feel love for you in the moment too, but I also feel like, the future, and marriage and babies and being old and wrinkly and needing wheelchairs and-”
She kisses him again, this time with more hunger than he’s ready for, and he almost stumbles back when she wraps her arms around his neck.
“I feel everything too,” she murmurs, and Finn’s heart thump thump thumps like it’s about to thump right out of his chest. “That’s better than fireworks, right?”
“Oh God, yeah.” He groans into her mouth and grinds up against her as she giggles and kisses him back, and even though Santana yells Spanish profanities at them from the restaurant, they don’t stop.
She’s his everything, and that says it all, doesn’t it?
