i hate the sterek fandom

  • you: what's the world's worst betrayal
  • me, on the outside: i don't know, cheating maybe
  • me, on the inside: when i open a fic whose summary was in third person but the story is actually in first
On fandom:

You know what would be kind of awesome?

If we could all just as a community agree to legitimize our fandom contributions as resume builders. All these things that we spend so much time and put so much heart into, but feel like they won’t ultimately get us anywhere outside this space and these blogs. If we could agree to help each other out, be each other’s references, validate these skills we have and the things that we do for each other to help each other move forward.

Ever beta others’ works? That’s freelance editing.

Help someone code their blog? (Or do your own?) That’s web design, right there.

Taking commissions is obviously working as a freelance artist, but what about taking fic prompts? Is there a way that could be expressed as the skill it is?

Big bangs or co-writing stories shows you’re a team player; participating in events proves an ability to meet deadlines. Running those events (or any kinds of groups/networks) shows organizational skills, leadership, and the same skill sets needed to run any non-fandom club.

And depending on the type of blog you run… do you ever offer advice? Do you come up with meta? Even coming on and posting regularly should be able to be worked into social media experience.

…Point is. I know none of us do this to try and get ahead. We do this in our free time, because we love it. But I feel like we should also recognize that it takes effort and skill to do all the things we do on here, and that we should be proud of that and be willing and able to share it with potential employers.

If writers on here would agree to be references for their betas… if anyone on here would be willing to be references for the people who support them in any way… can you imagine how amazing that would be? How great that would feel to help people get jobs, get their contributions recognized outside the community?

I feel like I want to organize something for this… but I don’t have a fully formed idea for it yet.

I hate the way you talk to me,

and the way you cut your hair.

I hate the way you drive my car.

I hate it when you stare.

I hate your big dumb combat boots,

and the way you read my mind.

I hate you so much it makes me sick;

it even makes me rhyme.

I hate it, I hate the way you’re always right.

I hate it when you lie.

I hate it when you make me laugh,

even worse when you make me cry.

I hate it when you’re not around,

and the fact that you didn’t call.

But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you.

Not even close,

not even a little bit,

not even at all.

-10 things I hate about you-

“If stiles was a girl sterek would already be canon” if stiles was a girl and sterek was canon everyone would be outraged and would probably get teen wolf cancelled over the fact that derek pushed her against a wall and slammed her head against a steering wheel instead of romantizing their scenes together and shipping them, you dipshit.

Hi, so Friday night someone stole $150 from my mom (along with her debit card, license, and so much more). She’s a waitress, and that was all she had made for the week and it was supposed to be going toward rent. She’s really upset and I hate that she is. She has to change everything now and between working a lot to pay the bills and her overnights, she’s barely getting any sleep. I hate doing this and I’ve never done it before, but I love my mom so much and she’s literally all I have. If anyone is able to give a $1 or something, I will write you fic! So, please, if you can I’d appreciate it so much. My paypal is violentthings@yahoo.com

Things that are an ongoing frustration for me in pretty much every fandom ever:

When fans of a thing only read fic by already established authors (or occasionally authors who get heavily recommended by someone well-established in a fandom) and don’t bother with authors who are new to writing, new to the fandom, or don’t have the connections in a fandom to get reblogged and recced by someone known (and presumably trusted).

Look, I know that people’s time isn’t all that unrestricted. I get that a lot of people prefer to pick up something by an author they already know and like. And I’m not saying that it’s wrong to have those kinds of authors, or that they don’t deserve the attention. This isn’t about how popular authors should have less attention. It never is about that. They have the readership for a reason.

But it’s ridiculously hard for an author to break through in a fandom when very few people are willing to give a chance to authors with less of an already established name in that fandom.

The whole “sort by kudos” function on AO3 is great, don’t get me wrong. But too many people stop at a certain point, assuming that because a fic doesn’t already have a high amount, it’s crap. And that’s simply not true - it just means in a lot of cases that others did exactly that. Skipped over fics, maybe ones that they’ve spotted recced even, because other people before them did too.

Or people search for a specific theme, but don’t bother with fics when they don’t recognise the author name from anywhere. Or there’s a fic fest or big bang, and there’s a disproportionate difference between the most and the least read fics.

tl;dr: I wish people who read fanfic would give a chance to fic and authors that are less known.

Let’s prove everyone that we are right and they are wrong. ;)
Actually i dont hate the stydia fandom only stalia i dont know why

This is why I have “anti teen wolf fandom” and “anti sterek fandom” tags.

Please pay extra special attention to their usage of misogynist slurs while attempting to use “misogynist” as an attack on the character they hate.

@fandomshatepeopleofcolor and @fandomshatewomen, I thought you might get a crack out of this. :P

You know what pisses me off the most about this absurd “Scott is a bad friend” tag ? It’s that most of the people using it know it doesn’t make any sense, they know it’s totally false canon-wise and character-wise. Because if they genuinely believed that Scott is a bad friend, if it was evident to them, there wouldn’t be a precise tag created specifically to specify it - because every person watching this damn show with their own eyeballs know that Scott is absolutely not a bad friend. But this fandom wants to villainize Scott so much, for the single purpose of turning Stiles into a sad abandoned little puppy that only needs comfort (comfort usually coming from the growling Alpha Derek Hale), that they felt the need to fabricate and use this tag.

tyler posey was depressed  and wanted to die and fucking sterek shippers have the nerve to tweet him ‘you should’ve killed yourself’. honestly fuck yall. this is why i hate sterek and their fandom. and don’t give me ‘don’t place all shippers in a box’ bc this grossness has been going on within yall fandom for literally fucking years and no one speaks out about it ! no one ! i have seen not a single sterek shipper talk about the blatant racism and bitterness going in their fandom ! everytime i try to give yall a chance you keep proving that i was right about yall from the beginning. all of this for some boring cis whitebread crackship pairing that never had no chance of  ever being canon.

so i’m tagging this in the sterek tag for obvious reasons :) so sterek shippers can see it :) please come @ me :)

i think alot of haters think its easy to hate on the sterek fandom, maybe because both characters are white, male & obvs non canon. & after the disrespect from some of the cast & its creator it seems like they think got permission to bully that part of the fandom without realising how big that fandom is. also when alot of this drama happened, many sterek fans had to step back, cause they didnt feel safe & thats just 💔. (1)

i guess thats what i like going into the steter tag is that its so away from the core of tw & its drama. its ironically become a safe space, & i wonder if other sterek shoppers feel this way? we expanded our horizons, & by doing so the haters are nothin but a blimp on the radar.(2)

It comes down purely to popularity, I think. Because everything that is supposedly “problematic” about Sterek is the same, if not a hell of a lot worse with Steter.

But the Steters just slide on under the radar…

friendly reminder to the anti sterek people who keep flooding the supergirl tag: Greg Berlanti, creator of Supergirl, ships sterek (◡‿◡✿)

How My Life Works
  • Me: I should really do something with my life.
  • Brain: But there is so much other non-productive things to do!
  • Me: I should *insert productiveness*...
  • Brain: Yeah yeah do that... while listening to Hamilton.
  • Me: What???
  • Brain: Or you could do it while reading a *insert ship name* fanfic.
  • Me: I can't do both things at the same tim-
  • Brain: OR you could read fanfic and listen to Hamilton
  • Brain: Minus the productiveness part.
  • Me: ....
  • Brain: Do it.
  • Me: I hate you.

Do you prefer when people let you know when they unfollow? Just wondering cause I've seen mixed opinions on it haha, I love you lots and I'm staying right here ❤️

<3 Thank you, love.

Honestly… yes? Especially if you’re a mutual, or someone I’ve ever interacted with, and if you’re leaving for some “I don’t actually hate your guts” reason (like just moving on from Sterek fandom). Because if I notice you’ve unfollowed me then my immediate assumption will be that you hate me now (so if that’s the reason, feel free not to tell me).

And I’m not trying to guilt or force anyone to do anything, and people can obviously unfollow any time for any reason and do what makes them comfortable. Just… if you still like me or don’t want me thinking you don’t, telling me that you’re unfollowing would mean a lot.

Stiles Stilinski 'negative traits'

Can be insensitive as hell.

Will lash out aggressively in high stress situations.

Is often extremely sarcastic.

Will sometimes make inappropriate jokes.

Snark is his second nature.

Is highly paranoid and suspicious of anyone new who takes an interest in the pack.

ME: “Your personality quirks which others find abhorrent or rave inducing I find cute as a button”.
