Imagine Rin’s in his nineties, in his sickbed. His mind wanders, he comes and goes. Sometimes he asks for Sousuke, or Ai, forgetting that they’ve been dead for years. Or panics over Momo making a move on Gou while he’s stuck there, not knowing that Momo got over his crush, and Gou married someone else anyway.

But sometimes, he goes far back in time, to his elementary school self. Going on and on about a boy named Nanase, how fast he is, how pretty his eyes are, and how he thinks he has a crush on him. He doesn’t notice that the boy he can’t stop blabbering about, and the old man that never leaves his bedside, are one and the same.

And Haru sighs, with a sad smile on his face. He gently takes Rin’s hand and tells him: I’m sure he loves you too.
