So I work at a grocery chain as a customer service manager. We, by law and company policy, HAVE to card everyone regardless if they look like they’re 99 and on their past breath. I get an older couple who have a cart full of groceries and ring them up. One of their last items is a case of beer so I ask for Id. The man gets so pissed off, demanding that I ring him up. I tell him it’s company policy to card everyone. His wife chimes in saying they shop here all the time and never get harassed. I apologize, saying again it’s simply policy.
So instead of presenting his id, he and his wife storm away yelling “Well, you can tell corporate you lost a customer today!” Leaving his 100$+ dollar purchase on my belt and bagging station. :) guess who has to put it all back?
That incident was about on par with the time another guy came in at 9:50 (we close at 10 and I was the last cashier) and had to wait in a small line. He threw his single can of pumpkin on an empty belt and stormed out “Fuck this store, this is why you’ll fail!” We opened 11 new stores this year and my store has been open for 20 years but go off.
