attention college freshmen/anyone feeding themselves for the first time

this is for you

it has come to my attention that some people are not feeding themselves properly bc they don’t know how to cook/aren’t sure how to cook on a budget. bc i am everyone’s mom (or at least everyone’s wise older sister) let me drop some very real Broke Rookie Cooking Knowledge. 2 of my favorite recipes are under the cut, both of which come out to $2 OR LESS PER SERVING.

-MAKE a MENU. pick out like 5 things you know how to make and buy JUST WHAT YOU NEED FOR THOSE THINGS. and also a few snacks, but otherwise, JUST THAT. don’t just buy some random-ass groceries you think you’ll need. (also, if you don’t know how to make 5 things, seriously just google simple dinner recipes. i used a “mississippi heirloom cookbook” my aunt gave me and got a ton of good ones.)

-tbh i don’t even buy snacks except for a giant box of cookies that lasts me like 2 weeks at a time and an assload of apples. snacking is bad for you, and if you don’t HAVE snacks, you can’t EAT snacks. fuck snacks.

-off-brand EVERYTHING. you think you can taste a difference? you CAN’T. get shit in cans. vegetables. pasta sauce. salsa. whatthefuckever. it all comes in cans, and it’s always cheaper. i have no idea why.

-whole grain bread and brown rice/pasta are not more expensive than the regular kind, and they keep you full longer. GET THEM.

-@ my americans, Dollar Tree has literally everything. every kitchen utensil. (it’s where i got my big-ass chef’s knife, and that bitch is still sharp.) dishes/cups. snacks. drinks. literal loaves of bread. all kinds of basics, from peanut butter to sriracha to progresso soup. some even have freezer sections. all for ONE DOLLAR. go to Dollar Tree first, then go to the grocery store for whatever you couldn’t find there. i s2g it saves me so much money. (they also have tupperware, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, EVERYTHING. for one dollar.)

-produce is way cheaper than you think. get some fresh vegetables. you really will start to feel like a bag of hot garbage if you don’t eat your veggies.

-COOK in ADVANCE. i work during the day and go to school in the evenings, then i come home and work out. lemme tell you, my ass does NOT wanna cook when im done with all that. cook shit in big quantities, stock up on tupperware (dollar treeeeee), and stick it in the fridge for later. when you’re exhausted and remember you have instant dinner already made, you will want to kiss yourself.

-find some sandwiches you love. make a lot of sandwiches. (pls for the love of God dont use kraft american singles tho. deli-sliced cheese is literally right next to it, and it is NOT more expensive.)`

-FUCK organic free-range shit. you got organic free-range money? GREAT. i sure as hell don’t, and neither do most people. don’t waste your money trying to live your foodstagram #goals while you’re young and poor.

-if you qualify for SNAP/EBT, GET THAT SHIT. there are some assholes out there that will tell you not to, to leave it for the ~real~ poor people. tell them, ‘motherfucker I AM REAL POOR.’ for real though, corporations take advantage of any assistance the government gives them and they still lobby for more. you’d be a fool not to do the same.

Okay this may be a bit controversial but I think this is important: please learn and practice taking a step back from mental illness communities when you need to.

When I was about 17, I was heavily in the BPD community, in the tags everyday, in several group chats and 2 of my closest friends had BPD. I spent so much time discussing my disorders and symptoms that I forgot that they weren’t healthy. I’d talk about my impulsive thoughts so often that I got a lot closer to acting on them; the more I told people about me consistent urge to stab myself in the leg every time i held a knife, the stronger that impulse got. I noticed my symptoms get worse, specifically my manipulative behaviours.

So, I took a step back. I left the group chats for a while, took a break from the tags. Took the time to basically reset and remind myself that a lot of things I was doing weren’t healthy. It’s still something I do to this day; I take breaks from certain spaces when I need them, and it helps, it really does. 

Communities can help so much; they can help you understand your symptoms, give you coping mechanisms, connect with others, feel less alone. But they’re not perfect, and can become overwhelming. Any space that joins people by a mental illness is never gonna be very healthy, and we need to recognise that.

So please, learn to take breaks when you need to, learn to step back and observe yourself, don’t get lost in these communities and loose yourself.

how to know which twin is which

i was literally talking to sam about this five seconds ago but

  • there are TWO WAYS you can differentiate one minyard from the other.
  • neil’s way is: listen to them talk.
    • andrew smokes like three sticks of cigarettes every five hours. 
      • he’s got that whole smoker’s husk in his voice that neil almost immediately associates with Right. 
    • aaron, who never really smoked a blunt of any kind before (probably just snorted his drugs), does not have this.
  • katelyn’s way is: wait for them to do something
    • now i know some of y'all’re gonna get on my case abt katelyn being nowhere near andrew at any given moment but HEAR ME OUT. 
      • this twin issue? gonna get resolved. slowly. 
      • eventually. 
      • and katelyn’s gonna have to Deal. 
    • so what she does to Deal is she waits until the twin starts to fidget. 
    • andrew usually taps his nails, fidgets with his fingers, as any smoker is wont to do after dropping the habit. 
    • aaron would fidget with his legs. you know, just, shift around from one foot to the other, vibrate his leg at concerning speeds.

Apparently Natasha didn’t actually want you to answer that question.  She was ranting and raving, throwing her hands in the air, pointing a polished, accusatory finger in your direction.  She switched from English to Russian so quickly that it seemed as is if she were a one-woman show playing all the parts.  You couldn’t get a word in edgewise though.  Every time you opened your mouth to reply she merely answered herself or spoke right over you with a barrage of “what were you thinkings” “you could have dieds” “I’ve never seen anything do stupid in my entire lifes” “what the hell is wrong with yous” and what you suspected were several rude and explicit Russian insults.

I owned a knife that could make you fly if you held it as if you were about to stab somebody with it. My dad took it away from me and hid it in his room, so I turned into a ninja and snuck in and got it back. I tried flying using the knife again, but somehow it teleported me to my grandmother’s house. She locked me in a cage and sacrificed the knife to Satan, and revealed herself to be Severus Snape instead of my grandma.

Finally managed to finish this build, and just in time for Megacon this Friday too! Most of the armor was hand made from foam and other materials to go with the collectors edition helmet i got with the game, with 3D printed parts where necessary. Guns and knife were 3D printed.
