i find it funny that only one ship is canon here

shit i remember from my 2007 - 2013 fanfiction.net experiences (before i finally jumped ship for ao3 like everyone else)
  • “don’t like don’t read”
  • uses of the terms “lemon” and “lime” (apparently there was a difference. lemons were porn but i’m STILL not sure what a lime is. i also have NO idea how “lemon” came to mean “porn”. not sure i want to, tbh.)
  • soooo many “i do not own please don’t sue me” disclaimers
  • fics where the whole premise that the whole cast was trapped someplace together and the reviewers would leave questions in their comments and then the characters would answer them in-story. like “ask that guy with the glasses” except shitty and usually self-indulgent towards the author’s preferred ships. (i may have written one of these when i was 12.)
  • authors who legit updated on a schedule (and stuck to it). some every fucking day. (you still see this on ao3, but not NEARLY as much.)
  • fanfic authors who basically had a following and fandom of their own. (again, this still happens, but not as much. not sure if that’s a good thing or not.) not bad considering most of them were 13.
  • “yaoi!!! that means boy kisses!!! don’t like don’t read!!!”
  • putting “————-” or “xxxxxxx” bc ff.net wouldn’t let you insert a horizontal line to show the end of a section
  • very long, very rambley author’s notes
  • some of which had the authors interacting with/talking to the characters in the fic.
  • fics that weren’t so much stories as they were a chapter-by-chapter detailing of all the cliche plots and tropes used in that fandom’s shitty fanfics. (i actually sorta miss these, tbh)
  • songfics. no, not fics inspired by songs. fics where the lyrics were put in between every paragraph, with some lyrics altered to fit the characters. it was horrific.
  • fics that were up-front about the oc being a stand-in for the reader so they can read about themselves getting with their fave character. as in, it was written in second person and the summary outright said the pov character was meant to be the reader.
  • the forums being used for roleplay before tumblr rp was a “thing”
  • long, LONG author profiles, filled with things like “copy/paste if you’re a [whatever] shipper!” or obviously fake sickly sweet anecdotes (think chain email levels of bad), or worst of all (in my opinion), a pro-life anti-abortion story from the point of view of a fetus. it was as bad as it sounds, if not worse.
  • listing all your ships on your author profile page
  • seeing a title that was all lowercase letters and thinking “lazy” rather than “aesthetic”
  • “101 one ways to annoy [insert character here]” (voldemort was popular for these things)
  • it being fucking impossible to find f/f fic that wasn’t porn
  • writing ships as “characterxcharacter” instead of “character/character”
  • author’s notes in the middle of the story. literally you would be reading a fanfic and all of a sudden, in between paragraphs… A/N: awwww isn’t it cute how they’re thinking the same thing!!! XD”
  • for that matter, author’s notes using the XD emoticon
  • people FLIPPING THEIR SHIT whenever their fave author (or just a well-established author in the fandom) changed their username. ESPECIALLY if they changed it from something fandom-specific to something more neutral.
  • “character x/character y. NO CHARACTER X/CHARACTER Z.” bc apparently you think i’d think your fic clearly marked character x/character y would be nothing but character x and character z making out.
  • trollfics trying to capitalize on my immortal’s infamy. there are still trollfics, of course, but they tend to be more subtle.
  • for that matter, trying to pass a trollfic off as a legitimate fic rather than just admitting it’s a parody
  • specifically reading fics for your notp just to bash it in the reviews
  • people putting replies to reviews for the previous chapter in the author’s notes (this died down a LITTLE once ff.net finally added a reply function, but not much)
  • the great fanfiction.net purge (ahh yes. history lesson time. basically, back in the olden days of fanfiction, when everyone actually used ff.net, one fateful day, back in biblical times – 2011 – ff.net decided to make MA rated stuff – basically porn – not be allowed on the site anymore. ofc people kept posting it anyway, but then ff.net started deleting stories from the website with no notice to the authors. just poof! gone. the aftermath was HORRIFIC. people were FURIOUS, as a lot of people had no backup and just lost their stories. so ff.net stopped enforcing the rule, but the damage was done. this was when people began to officially leave for ao3, i think.)
  • lots of harry potter fanfics about the my immortal versions of the characters interacting with the canon characters. some of these were actually quite funny – i think they’re still around, but i don’t see them as much. (i actually wrote one of these stories. it is still, to this day, the most popular story i ever wrote.)
  • drabbles that were ACTUALLY 100 words long.
  • fictionpress (a sister site for original fiction. it was like wattpad before wattpad was wattpad. it never really took off. come to think of it, i may still have some stuff on there from when i was 12 i need to take down)
  • “crackfics” that consisted mainly of “lulz iM SO RanDOm!!!111!!!!!oneone XD cheeeeeeeese!!!!!!” humor
  • “i suck at summaries”
  • “this is my first story so please be nice”
  • “i’ll only update if i get 10 good reviews”
  • AUs before “AU” was a really widely used term, so the author’s note would have a length explanation for why they had to change things for the story and apologizing over and over instead of just noting the AU in the summary
  • AUs out of laziness rather than for creative/plot reasons (ie, “luna’s a gryffindor in this fic because i couldn’t find another reason for her to be here”)
  • authors notes apologizing for late updates
  • being genuinely shocked when you found a GOOD fanfic
Yuri on Ice Fic Rec Mega List

So, this is my own YOI Fic-rec list, compiled from my absolute favorites I’ve been reading during the last three months.

But first, a couple of notes:

Not a lot of angst here (there is some) because I much prefer fluff (and smut), or both (as my friend likes to put it – smuff). Almost all of the stories are T and up, most are M and up.

I don’t do sad endings, y’all. The YOI story is so fucking optimistic, it deserves to be treated as such (sure, if your kink is major character death, go for it, it just won’t be on MY list).

I much prefer the novels, dammit, the longer the better, but there is a section with one-shots and short stories, I just like it less.

I ADORE healthy relationships with good communication, and except for the obvious here, most of these are.

So what do we have here?

A few Fill in the Gaps (FITG) stories, a few Time Travel (TT) stories, two major skating AUs (one of them probably one the best known fics in this fandom) and one completely different AU, One Sub/Dom story that cured me from “50 Shades” (don’t judge me), lots of fluff and domesticity, lots of communication in relationships, lots of social media shenanigans, a few crack stories and a WHOLE LOT OF LOVE ON THE ICE.

The only ships are Victuuri and Otayuri (when they’re older), as I don’t ship them with anyone else, and other ships as side notes.

So. Onwards.

The Novels

Honorary mention - The Rival series – Until My Feet Bleed and My Heart Aches/Of Bright Stars and Burning Hearts, by Reiya. Complete/WIP (Rated E)

General: Ah, boy. So much has been written about this series I don’t really have to add a lot. If you are in this fandom and read fic, you will have heard about this story long before this.

Just for the record – a “What If” AU, told first from Yuuri’s perspective (UMFB&MHA, complete) and then from Victor’s (OBS&BH, WIP), about what would have happened if one small detail was different and the result would be a rivalry between the two. One of the first fics I read and a DAMN GOOD ONE. Like I said, it’s the only one on this list with actual long lasting ANGST, but it’s also beyond sweet.

Bonus points:

Amazing world building, wonderful characterization, handling difficult issues very well, and very good writing.

LOOOOOOONG. As in, novel length. For someone like me, that’s wonderful.

OBS&BH has a pretty regular update rate – especially regarding the fact that Reiya is a FUCKING MEDICAL STUDENT, so tons of kudos to them for keeping the updates as regular as they are.

Reiya (kazliin) is very active here, and answers asks and gives us world building and top ten lists and LIFE I tell you.

One of the best usages of Social Media snippets.

Comments:

A third fic is planned, with lots of fluff and extra scenes, which is something we are looking forward to in the extreme.

Don’t skip the music connected to the story, as it is very important!

Bear Your Soul on the Ice, by SassySalchow (diedraechin). WIP (Rated M)

General: At age 14, Yuuri goes to train with Yakov in Russia and meets his idol, which turns out to be a real dork. The story spans years of both their lives and their relationship (with each other and other people), and it so wonderfully researched and wonderfully written.

Bonus points:

Long, and getting longer. As far as we know, the story is supposed to be around its middle point, and as it currently has 21 chapters and 126,442 words, you do the math.

Amazing (!!!!!!) Original Characters, ones that you don’t want to let go of, and can’t really remember that are not a part of Canon.

The skating descriptions are STUNNING.

Pretty regularly updated.

Social media shenanigans – and texting – from before WhatsApp, oh, dear lord.

Comments:

Additional fic (Life and Love off the Ice) always being updated with titbits and extra scenes.

Winter Song, by proantagonist. WIP (Rated E)

General: One of my favorite FITG fics, and one of the best written. It begins after chapter 7 and goes on after the finale. Lots of really cute Victuuri, tons of healthy communication and fluff (…and smut, yeah).

Bonus points:

Did I mention the COMMUNICATION? I don’t think I did. C-O-M-M-U-N-I-C-A-T-I-O-N. Yeah.

Wonderful characterization of all those involved, with extra cuteness when it comes to Yuuri’s family.

Healthy sex. Really. And it progresses in a REASONABLE PACE.

Call Everything on the Ice…, by shysweetthing. Complete (Rated E)

General: Another FITG fic, with Victor being extra insecure and cute as hell while being very bad at directions and learning Japanese. Some miscommunication and angst here, but nothing major.

Bonus points:

The last chapter is extra cute, way into the future.

Victor and Yuuri’s family, my god.

LANGUAGE KINK. YES.

No Less Unthinkable, by rageprufrock. Complete (Rated E)

General: Well, this one is really tons of smut (a lot in the first chapter, less in the second), but it also portrays Yuuri as somewhat more experienced than you would normally see, so that’s cute. First Chapter is pre-canon, second is FITG for S01.

Bonus points:

Wonderful characterization.

Yuuri and Yuri, LOLZ.

Best sex talks EVER.

Quite a lot of crack. Seriously. These people are HILARIOUS. Snap Stories. Phichit. Dear god.

CHRIS. CHRISCHRISCHRISCHRISCHRIS.

Also, it might be 2 chapters… but it’s long. J

Katsuki_fc wrote, by tetsurashian. Complete (Rated G)

General: How Social Media viewed the happenings of S01. Obviously CC, and FUNNY AS HELL.

Bonus points:

THE CRACKIEST CRACK OF CRACKLAND. Really. DO NOT drink ANYTHING while reading this.

People being supportive which is FUN.

Sweetsilversub, by phlintandsteel. Complete (Rated E)

General: Remember the Dom/Sub story I talked about? THIS IS IT. It’s mostly CC (with a bit before canon and divergent from a point), FITG for the sweetest relationship in the world. Some chatroom talks, a couple of Dom/Sub Scenes between Victuuri and HEALTHY COMMUNICATION.

Bonus points:

Did I mention the communication?

YUURI IS THE DOM AND VICTOR IS THE SUB. It fits so well, my god.

The Dom/Sub scenes are handled so beautifully.

Nice and long (you see a pattern here, don’t you?)

OCs are super cute.

The Carnage of the Art, by ExorcisingEmily. Complete (Rated T)

General: CC Post S01. When Yuri gets hurt, Victor and Yuuri take care of him. Some guilt and some angst here, but a lot of relationship building.

Bonus point:

Extra Podium Family - so much love between the three.

TWO PAIR SKATES!

Beautiful characterization and writing.

On My Love, by RikoJasmine. WIP (Rated T)

General: After a car accident, Yuuri finds himself in the past. It’s probably my favorite TT story, as it is incredibly well written. It’s also kind of a tear-jerker, so be warned.

Bonus points:

Yuuri being confident is great.

Vicchan lives!!!

Yuuri being able to be great at what he does, and Victor falls so hard for him it’s magnificent.

THE BANQUET!!!!

Victor and Yuuri’s family! CUTENESS OVERLOAD.

Fluffy as hell.

Comments:

Update rate is quite slow on this one (not complaining, just saying - I know fic writers have a life and whatever they give I’m grateful), but it’s still already nice and long. Worth the wait, IMHO.

Re: Yuri Katsuki, by Ishxallxgood. WIP (Rated T)

General: CC, S01 told from Phichit’s perspective. Lots of crack, lots of social media, super cute and fluffy.

Bonus points:

Phichit is stirring the Victuuri Ship, y’all. Enough said.

Phichit spends money… XD

ChulaCommeti!

From Almaty, With Love, by BoxWineConfessions. Complete (Rated E)

General: The best Otayuri fic I found, where Yuri goes to stay with Otabek for the summer in Almaty. Pretty slow burn, but seriously good read. Some angst (though I’d call it a tear jerker), but worth it.

Bonus points:

Absolutely STUNNING writing and descriptions.

Almaty in summer is described so life-like it’s as if you’re there.

Both Yuri and Otabek are so well written and their interactions are funny and sweet. And real.

Also long.

Comments:

Second fic in the series (Line and Verse) has extra scenes before and after and is just as well written.

Home, by Kurenaito. Complete (Rated T)

General: Post S01, when Victor and Yuuri adopt two girls. Very sweet family dramas.

Bonus points:

Great OCs, well portrayed.

Extra Yuri being a big brother.

Comments:

Two extra fics in the series (Spark to Flame) – Clara tells all (short) and Spark, which picks up after Home and is a WIP.

Blackbird, by sixpences. Complete (Rated M)

General: WW2/Cold war AU, where both Yuuri and Victor are spies. I’m not big on AUs that aren’t skating, but this one is… Just fucking beautiful. Some angst and it can be a tear-jerker, but it’s really, REALLY worth it.

Bonus points:

One of the best written stories I found, including characterization, plot development, pace, descriptions and emotion.

Nice and long.

Yuuri is not a timid little thing! Yey!

THEY JUST LOVE EACH OTHER ABOVE ALL ELSE, MY GOD.

I cried quite a lot during this, but it’s the good kind of tears.

Very well researched.

The sex scenes are not explicit but the go RIGHT TO YOUR BONES.

Comments:

There will be extra fics in the series (Birdsong) to accompany the main one, with more about the side characters and a bit more about our Victuuri.

Turn back the Clock, by IronScript. WIP (Rated T)

General: TT where Both Yuuri and Victor go back in time. This is pure fluff.

Bonus points:

Long and getting longer!

DID I MENTION THE FLUFF

One Shots and short stories

OK, so true, these aren’t my favourites, but these few are still good enough for me to love them.

You can have everything, by shysweetthing. Complete (Rated T)

General: CD – when Yuuri finds Victor’s phone in the Sochi GPF HILARITY ENSUES.

Bonus Points:

Total Crack most of the time (except for Vicchan).

Everything that’s silver is not gold, by SassySalchow (diedraechin). Complete (Rated M)

General: Soulmates story, where the marking on your body grows when you see your soulmate. CC and very fucking cute.

Bonus points:

Pretty long for a one shot and very well written.

Super cute, just about it.

So this guy walks into a bar…, by silvercistern. Complete (Rated E)

General: Victor and Yuuri pretend to not know each other and Victor is BAD at seducing Yuuri. Crack and a bit of smuff.

Bonus point:

Well, the crack, and the fact that Victor can’t seduce FOR SHIT.

Also, being a couple can be very comfortable.

Drunk on You, by kiaronna. WIP (Rated T)

General: Soulmate AUs one shots, each chapter is a whole different story. Most are CC and quite cute.

Bonus points:

Not “regular” soulmate AUs, so a bit more imagination.

Lots of cuteness overload.

That’s it - if you guys have fics to recommend, I’ll be happy to hear!

3

Season 7, Time for a Wedding.

Dean x Reader, Sam x Reader.

A/N: This fic was written for Michelle’s 2k Follower Challenge. My quote was “Of course I didn’t leave it alone. Sue me.”

Summary: You have been hunting with the Winchesters for practically all your life, which makes you a co-protagonist in the supernatural books. There aren’t too many problems with that until you find out that Becky ships you and Sam together. And she’s loud about this particular hobby too, so loud in fact that your longtime boyfriend Dean might not stand her very much. But, whatever, right? Ships are harmless, or they are usually. They’re not anymore when she decides it’s time for hers to become canon, with a long-awaited (in her opinion) wedding.

so... back to this series again... what would young children and other viewers in general of ATLA have learned from a zutara relationship in place of a K@taang and m@iko?

One of the reasons Zutara is a superior narrative to the canon ships is that it supports the preexisting messages in the show, as opposed to creating a new message that contradicts previously established themes. Here are a few ways Zutara strengthens and reinforces the show’s messages:

1. Balance. Avatar the Last Airbender is all about balance. The people of the Four Nations have strengths and weaknesses that play off each other in a beautiful counterpoint in the Avatar world.

Koh: Tui and La, your Moon and Ocean, have always circled each other in an eternal dance. They balance each other… push and pull… life and death… good and evil… yin… and yang.

Zuko: You rise with the moon. I rise with the sun.

Aαng and Katara don’t have a balanced relationship. On Aαng’s side, the relationship is one-sided because he pines for her while never allowing Katara to know how he feels. On Katara’s side, the relationship is one-sided because Katara spends much more time and energy catering to Aαng’s emotional needs than Aαng spends catering to Katara’s.

But in order to have balance, you must first have …

2. Equality.

As Katara grows in her waterbending abilities, she is shown to be more and more Zuko’s bending equal. Zuko and Katara have comparable amounts of drive and determination, a moral code that gets challenged as they go through their journeys, and are two of the most developed characters in A:TLA.

Mαi and Zuko are completely unequal in terms of characterization.  Mαi never goes through a redemption arc, realizes she was wrong about the Fire Nation, or treats the people around her any better at the end of the show than she did at the beginning. And it should be noted that unlike with their canon love interests, Zuko and Katara spend about equal amounts of time in the show being “in the wrong” or “in the right” when it comes to their interactions. In Mαiko, Zuko is always the one to blame, and in Aαng always gets irritated when Katara refuses to follow the wisdom of the monks.

3. Redemption. A large part of the show focuses on redemption–not just of Zuko, but of the Fire Nation as a whole. Things that went terribly wrong in the past can be rectified. Relationships that failed in the past can be restored. This is the point of the Avatar Roku/Firelord Sozin dynamic that foreshadowed Zuko and Aαng. If the “Cave of Two Lovers” had foreshadowed Zutara as it was likely intended to early on, it would have carried this message through flawlessly.

So it always baffles me when canon shippers make the argument that Zutara shouldn’t happen because of the Crossroads of Destiny, or because he captured her in the past. Zuko did far worse things to Aαng than he ever did to Katara, and yet the former end up best friends. And Katara gets, not a redemption arc, but a forgiveness arc with Zuko, where she lets go of her hatred that has been poisoning her ever since she was little. With Mαiko, not only does Mαi herself never get fully redeemed; Zuko going back to Mαi at the end of the show means going back to a superficial relationship based on attraction and gift-giving, rather than substantial principles in common. It’s jarring to see next to the rest of his peerless character path.

4. Freedom of destiny.

Aαng: You didn’t really see love in my fortune, did you? You just told me what I wanted to hear.
Aunt Wu: I’ll tell you a little secret, young Airbender. Just as you reshaped those clouds, you have the power to reshape your own destiny.

Iroh: You know, Prince Zuko, destiny is a funny thing. You never know how things are going to work out. But if you keep an open mind and an open heart, I promise you will find your own destiny someday.

Sokka: What about us? [Meaning Sokka, Toph, and Suki] What’s  our destiny today?
Iroh: What do you think it is?

Aunt Wu: I feel great romance for you. The man you’re going to marry… Katara: Tell me more!
Aunt Wu: I can see that he is a very powerful bender.

[later in the episode]

Sokka: Man, sometimes I forget what powerful bender (Katara’s expression instantly changes at this, remembering Aunt Wu’s words) that kid is.
Katara: Wait, what did you just say?
Sokka: Nothing, just that Aαng is one powerful bender.
Katara: I suppose he is…

One of these things is not like the others. And the only reason to disturb the ongoing A:TLA lesson of choosing your own destiny, is for Kαtααng to happen at the end of the show.

It also doesn’t help that the canon ships BOTH have hints of the endgame pairings when at least one of the people is still very much a child.

These characters are too young to be dating! They do not have the mental and emotional wherewithal to choose their romantic destiny when they haven’t even started adolescence. Freedom of choice is an essential theme of the Avatar world; it’s just a pity the romance gets so little of it.

What are your: Personal top 4–6 Padmé costumes; Favorite 4–6 non-Padmé costumes; Favorite SW film plot-wise; Favorite SW film music-wise, if you have one; Favorite 1–3 SW spaceships, if you have any; Favorite behind the scenes goofs, gifs, or anecdotes?

I’ve been wondering when I would get asked what my favorite costumes are!

Top 5 favorite Padme costumes, in no particular order:

-The Yellow Picnic Dress (AotC)

This dress changed my opinion on an entire color. I used to hate yellow. Like really hate yellow. Bet then I saw and studied this dress and it is so beyond beautiful to me. It’s so flowy and feminine and colorful. Also her hair! My favorite hairstyles for Padme are always the curled ones, and plus, she has the side buns which are a little shout out to Leia’s buns. Not to mention I love that entire scene in and of itself because they are in a natural setting of a field of grass and flowers, so different from cold and colorless space, and it’s one of the few time Anakin and Padme are truly and genuinely happy. It’s before the war, it’s before Shim dies, it’s just a happy little moment between them, and the yellow summer dress really evokes that.

-The Blue Tatooine Dress (AotC)

(Or as I like to call it: The Desert Goddess Dress) It’s just really pretty? I like the color and the silver details. I love her hair since it’s also curled and has slight buns on the sides. I love the cape but I’m not a big fan of the cloak that goes over the whole outfit. But I really find it funny that she chose a dress that shows her mid-drift while visiting Anakin’s family (she did the same thing visiting her own family how iconic.)

-The Blue Gloved Nightgown (RotS)

Honestly I love all of Padme’s nightgowns but if I had to choose between them this is my favorite. I like the color, I like her hair, I love the fact that she sleeps in a tiara. Despite the long gloves, it’s a bit more practical than the pearl embellished blue nightgown from previously in the film. It has seashells on it, though you can’t tell unless seeing High Quality stills of the dress. Also it’s worn during a very emotional scene and is one of the last costumes that she wears, so it has an added importance.

-The Parade Dress (TPM)

Honestly the only one of her outfits as a Queen that I like. Her other Queen outfits are too dark and over-the-top for my taste. I mean I get why they’re dark and over-the-top, but they just don’t appeal to me personally. But I really like the one she wears at the end of the film. I love the white dress and pastel pink and yellow of the cloak. I like how it’s somewhat of a slight callback to Leia’s dress during the ceremony at the end of ANH. (In case you can’t tell, I Absolutely love parallels between Leia and Padme’s wardrobes.)

-The Funeral Dress (RotS)

I love this dress so much. I love the colors, I love her hair, I love the flowers, it’s all just so pretty and regal but also very sad. So many sequins! Trisha Bigger (the designer of most of the costumes) said it was supposed to resemble the lakes and waterfalls of Naboo, and Natalie Portman said it reminded her of Ophelia from Hamlet, and I think they’re both absolutely right. And she’s just so beautiful like absolutely the angel that Anakin thought she was. Even in death, Padme is more beautiful than any of us will ever be. No lie, I want to be buried in something like that.

-Honorable Mention – White Geonosis Outfit (AotC)

One of her more practical costumes (except for the fact that it’s white (I mean really you shouldn’t wear white into battle) (of course the costume department said they made it white so that it would stand out in the red/orange sand) (still, white will get so dirty during a battle) whatever, I digress.) This costume has by far the most amount of screen time than any of her others. I really like the cloak and silver armbands too. It’s also a bit similar to Leia’s Hoth outfit. I actually thought about cosplaying this one but I have no idea how to do that freaking hair.

Top 5 non-Padme costumes, in no particular order:

-Princess Leia’s Hoth/Bespin outfit (ESB)

Like it’s literally just a white jumpsuit but Carrie Fisher made that thing look so regal and badass. I don’t have much to say about it, I just like it a lot?

-Princess Leia’s Ceremony Dress (ANH)

Yeah it’s a plain white dress but it’s prettier and more feminine than the other plain white dress. I love the cape effect of the sleeves even though it’s not actually a cape. I also really like the necklace and hair. I’ve considered cosplaying this one too.

-Luke’s Dagobah Costume (ESB)

I like that it shows his biceps. It’s also dirty and kind of grungy, which you wouldn’t think of as a good Look for Luke but damn does he make it work.

-Lando’s Blue Outfit (ESB)

The lining of his cape is literally embroidered with dragons. Iconic.

-Luke’s Ceremony Outfit (ANH)

I love that it’s so obvious that Luke is wearing Han’s clothes here. Because we all know Luke didn’t pack much when he left Tatooine, so he didn’t have a lot in the way of fashionable clothes. But Han helped him out and donated an outfit. Except for the canary yellow jacket. That was not Han’s and no one has any idea where Luke got it from.

-Honorable Mention – Princess Leia’s Bespin Gown (ESB)

The first time Leia wears color! (even if it is an unfortunate shade of red.) I like the shape and texture of the cape/cloak and that is has a vague floral pattern on it. I really like her hair too. Too bad it doesn’t have much screen time.

Favorite SW film plot wise?

-Lol I don’t watch Star Wars for the plot. But seriously, I think they all have unique and interesting plots (except for TFA)

Favorite SW film music wise?

-They all have fantastic music but I have to say Rogue One had very unique music compared to the others. I guess because it wasn’t John Williams, which I love John Williams! But I really enjoyed the soundtrack for RO.

Favorite spaceships?

-Nubian Ships (Prequels)

(Pictured: J-type 327 Nubian Royal starship) They’re just so shiny and remind me of mirrors. Fun fact: Captain Phasma’s armor is made from the melted down hull of one of Palpatine’s Naboo ships.

-Kylo Ren’s shuttle (TFA)

It’s pretty simple but very intimidating. I love the long V-shape wings, they kind of remind me of a bird of prey.

Favorite behind the scenes stuff?

-So many of the actors make their own sound effects with the lightsabers and blasters.

-Carrie making Mark wear her Leia costumes. (I wonder if she ever got him to wear the gold bikini…)

-All the many times that you can see Hayden Christensen fall down in bts videos. It really supports my head canon that Anakin has bad balance because of the prosthetic arm.

Wow this was a loaded ask. I hope I answered everything to satisfaction!

Let’s start with Personality:

What personality? In these cases, it’s fairly blatant that the author is just writing the character for amazing stuff to happen to instead of a character that actually exists as a person. Obviously, this is only a Mary Sue trait if what happens gives the character special powers, fantastic romances, or somehow lets her be a big damned heroine ; otherwise it’s just another faceless first-person perspective.

  • The personality of a Mary Sue — if she has one — is not nearly as important as how other characters react to it. No matter how shy or socially awkward Mary Sue is supposed to be, other characters will be drawn to her and inexplicably prefer her company over that of anyone else. All of her ideas are brilliant, all of her jokes are funny, all of her advice is an amazing breakthrough. People will trust her immediately, or very quickly, and feel more comfortable talking to her than to anyone else (even their own family or their significant other), even if she hasn’t done or said anything to make them feel that way about her.
  • If another character doesn’t feel this way about Mary Sue, it’s usually to portray them as either bad or just an idiot.
  • Mary Sue doesn’t have to actually do anything to be considered a good person—she just is good. By extension, anything she does is good, and even when she does nothing she brings more good into the world simply by existing than any other character ever could. Goodness just seems to seep out of her body like radiation.

All 3 of them suffer from bland personalities, and are praised for being brave, amazing, compassionate, etc. Here are some examples:

  • Highly persuasive, regardless of the actual content of the conversations. Everyone finds her opinions are just better than their own — even when they’re usually stubborn bastards. This is especially likely in an Author Tract.
  • Is either brave and cheerful (despite her pastnot unheard of in real life, but with Sues it tends to come across as Angst? What Angst?) — or unnecessarily mopey and depressed.
  • Friend to All Living Things. It’s becoming gradually less common as authors catch on to the Mary Sue Classicframework.
  • She loves everyone and forgives them all for their imperfections. Plus she is willing to save, protect or risk all for the sake of someone she has met just seconds ago.
  • Occasionally a complete asshole, especially when she’s supposed to be all of the above. Nobody will call her out on her abrasive, casually abusive behavior. Strong badass characters who would normally rip someone’s spleen out for squeezing the toothpaste from the wrong end, are instantly cowed and become meek, spineless Wangst factories as soon as she “puts them in their place.”
  • Full-on Jerk Sues will routinely be flippant, snide, and rude, yet will be treated as a charmingly sarcastic character. They will flout authority as a matter of course and never suffer the consequences. Even if said authority figure is known for a tough stance on disrespect, they will either gamely ignore the Sue’s challenge to their authority, or—worse still—praise her for her “cheekiness” or “boldness.”

Now that (Jerk Sue) applies more to Hayley:

Her “major flaws” will be stubbornness and a bad temper. These will only ever help her, never hurt her — because she’s always right, so whatever cause she dedicates herself to with such stubbornness will be a good cause, and whoever she loses her temper with will deserve it.

  • Sometimes they’ll mess her up once so she can learn an important lesson. And then they’ll help her for the rest of the story.
  • A character who’s described as being blunt to the point of rudeness or tactlessness will be praised for being “refreshingly honest” or for “telling it like it is.” Only the bad guys or other unsympathetic characters will ever say, “What a bitch.”
  • If she has any flaws intentionally written in by the creator, expect them to be Informed or not really flaws to begin with. Bonus points if they’re genuine flaws that would actually be pretty awesome were it not for their drawbacks (e.g. substance abuse, nymphomania, etc.), and of course the drawbacks will never be shown.

This one relates more to Elena when Julie Plec stated that Elena’s only flaw was that “she cared too much.”

Let’s move onto Skills:

I mean…..do I have to pull up the gifs:

BTW, in one of the gifs Hayley is pregnant and is picking fights with a vampire. Not to mention when she fought Mikael while she was 9 months pregnant. You couldn’t get more Mary Sue than that.

  • Skilled in a type of martial arts in a setting or with a backstory that doesn’t allow for it. Not regularly skilled either; she could kick the ass of the resident ninja of her choice.
  • And with all this — don’t expect the Green-Eyed Monster to show up. Envy appears in the Mary Sue’s life only as a means of angst, and so does not appear just because the Mary Sue has everything.
  • Alternately, anybody who does get jealous is a bitch and is wrong. This is typically a single other character and may be Die for Our Ship or for other reasons. (Caroline jealous of Elena in Season 1, Alicia jealous of Lana in Smallville)

  • Mary Sue always has excellent fashion sense. Even if she’s meant to be a rough-and-tumble Tomboy type who doesn’t care about that sort of thing, she will always look effortlessly beautiful and other characters, often males, will frequently talk about how they like that she isn’t as high maintenance as other girls (if she has a female rival they might mention her specifically).

If anything a Mary Sue typically has a fashion sense of a teenager throwing random things together, but she makes it look sexy or badass. Here are the receipts:

Let’s move onto Physical Appearance:

  • So Beautiful, It’s a Curse. While being attractive isn’t a qualifier of Mary Sue (who wants to be ugly?), it’s a bit excessive to try and play it as being some sort of disadvantage. Alternatively, she may only be Suetiful All Along. In an Anti-Sue, this is reversed into a hideous monster. Regardless, her astounding beauty (or astounding lack of it) will make her stand out from the crowd — or so we’re constantly being told.
  • No matter what she’s been through, Mary Sue will never look ugly. The worst she’ll ever be reduced to is Unkempt Beauty, and even if she is somehow injured and scarred or handicapped, the scar will always be a cool-looking, Bond villain-type scar that serves as more of a decoration than anything else. Plus, when she overcomes the handicap, she will be just as amazing as she was before getting injured (or better).
  • Likewise, if Mary Sue has a birthmark, it will be in a significant shape (heart, half moon, etc.) and never in a place that compromises her beauty. Expect the Mary Sue to think the birthmark makes her unattractive. This will be despite the fact that other characters insist that the birthmark makes her more attractive, especially in comparison to physically flawless characters. (Hayley’s Crescent Moon Birthmark)

Now onto Accessories:

  • Magic jewelry. It might be used as a Green Lantern Ring to justify her abilities. Bonus points if it glows.  (Elena’s vervain necklace created by a witch, Lana’s kryptonite necklace)

Now onto Canon Character Relationships:

Some Wish Fulfillment with a character you think is hot isn’t that bad. But a Mary Sue seems to grab their attention straight away. Even if they already have a stable love interest in canon, that relationship will be treated as either non-existent, or the couple will be split up in some way. (Elena and Stefan were retconned so Damon and Elena could happen, Gia and Elijah were completely ignored so Elijah could go back to pining after Hayley)

  • Bonus points if the love interest stands aside or sacrifices himself/herself so Mary Sue can be happy, or is twisted into a hateful person to justify Mary Sue breaking up the canon couple. (Stefan becoming a ripper/no humanity in Season 3 in order to breakup Stelena)
  • Turns out to be the offspring of a canon character. Made worse if that character would have been too young to have the Mary Sue, is gay/asexual, or perhaps is just physically incapable of it. For added Wangst, it’s the villain.
  • Even the characters who don’t have sex with her give her more heed than they normally would. Characters she likes can’t stop praising her positive traits. Characters she doesn’t like can’t stop making themselves look bad by insulting her. Even if she’s not physically present, that just means everyone can speak “freely” about her. In addition to the previous scenarios, at least one character will confess to being secretly be in love with her. There may be just “something special” about her, with no particular reason why anybody would think that. In the worst-case scenarios, they pay no heed to their own responsibilities or lives, only to Sue
  • .Bonus points: the disliked character behaving badly toward the Sue eventually sees the “error” of his/her ways and grows to love Sue as much as everyone else does.More bonus points: the bad behavior and treatment of the Sue by disliked characters is portrayed as jealousy.
  • Previously-established personalities change in reaction to her. Arrogant gimps may admire her for everything. Sweet, mild-mannered characters (that she and the author don’t like) insult and degrade her. A leader with responsibilities pays attention only to her. Young, reckless characters who would never settle down just yet will become totally reliable. Evil characters follow her around like a puppy or seem uncharacteristically obsessed with her. Extremely competent characters become stumbling buffoons who require her help to do anything. The characters in general just seem unnaturally focused on her, positive or negative.
  • She may have relationships of some kind with multiple major canon characters. For example, she’s the secret daughter of A who gave her up to be adopted by B’s parents, making her his sister, and she goes on to have a passionate affair with C, remaining friendly with him even though she goes on to marry D, and she’s E’s best friend, F’s closest advisor…and so on.

Mary Sues tend to have multiple love interest either currently or pre-season:

Lana and Whitney

Lana and Jason

Lana and Clark

Lana and Lex

Matt and Elena (pre-season, but Matt was still in love with Elena in Season 1)

Stefan and Elena

All of the men fawn over them.

Now onto Story Elements:

  • Mary Sue is always on the Spotlight-Stealing Squad. Without her, there would not be a story.
  • She’s The Chosen One. Even if the canon hero is already The Chosen One, she either ‘shares’ the position or just steals it away from them.
  • Sympathetic Sue has an unusually Dark and Troubled Past to excess, but other subtypes often have them too, just to emphasize how brave and special she is to live through it. This past is never really a point in the story, just dropped casually into the conversation to get attention. Alternatively it’s written badly owing to not doing much research. How much she Wangsts about it is usually out of proportion with how bad it really is. (Elena and Lana)
  • Redeems the villain through her overwhelming goodness. Might be through Redemption Equals Sex (bonus points if it leads into IKEA Erotica). Even more bonus points if the story decides to mention that this is her loss of virginity. Yet more bonus points if the villain comments on how awesome she is in bed despite said virginity. (Elena and Damon, Hayley being the incubator for Klaus’s redemption)
  • Is a princess. Everything’s Better with Princesses, after all. Bonus points if she grew up as a peasant (or equivalent social class) and only just discovered this during the story. Of course, in any case, it will be a position of high opulence and little actual responsibility. (Obviously Hayley)
  • Perform a Heroic Sacrifice as a way to prove that she’s Too Good for This Sinful Earth. Bonus points if the story goes out of the way to ensure she doesn’t leave an ugly corpse (whether it be by a method that doesn’t involve external physical damage or by her body not being recovered). More bonus points if it turns out to be a Disney Death. (Elena in Season 2)
  • She will often have a tragic family life. Coming from an abusive background is quite common. Her mother is often either dead or a Wicked Stepmother. In the latter case, she will most likely be in Cinderella Circumstances. Her father is frequently an Overprotective Dad (or in some cases, a Wicked Stepfather). Orphans are also very common, as is Parental Abandonment. (Elena is adopted by her Aunt and Uncle, her biological parents are assholes who want to kill the Salvatore brothers. They eventually end up dead. Lana’s parents die from meteor crash, and it turns out that she is adopted. Hayley’s biological parents are killed by Jackson’s grandfather as a result of a civil war in the Crescent Pack. Her adopted parents kicked her out at 13 when she transformed into a werewolf in front of them)
  • She will often suffer from Special Snowflake Syndrome, having some trait or backstory that sets her apart from her race.

Now onto Presentation:

  • In visual media, the camera just can’t stop staring at her. Every angle is seen several times and her every action gets a heavy emphasis with close-up shots galore. Other characters don’t get to be in the frame alone if it can be helped.
  • When the character is off-screen, if ever, the other characters are still talking about her, taking it as a chance to speak “honestly” about the new girl. If they like her, they sing her praises; if not, their dislike will be taken as jealousy, as her “haters” will only talk about petty issues (Sue’s background, perceived promiscuity, etc.), and not genuine gripes (massive attention whoring, for starters).
  • She’s the vanishing point - everything revolves around her.

Reading these tropes I can honestly say that Hayley, Elena, and Lana are the poster children of these tropes. Reading all of these tropes I couldn’t help but think about how all 3 of them fit them so well. And that is honestly sad because writers write these characters as if they’re badass, awesome, compassionate, strong, and just want to be loved, and is what girls should look up to. When in reality that is not the case, Mary Sues are misogynistic, anti-feminist, self-insert characters. They are what writers imagine themselves to be, and place themselves into the story making up this character that is so perfect and badass, but has a tragic past. Mary Sues are what girls fantasize what they want to be in their favorite TV shows or movies, and they completely ruin the story. Mary Sues are the reason why people can’t stand watching a certain TV shows at times because they take up all the screen time and everything has to be about them. People say things like “Oh, but she’s the main character so it has to be about her.” when in reality that’s not how being a protagonist works. Yes they are the key center to the story, but you know what makes a good TV show is when they focus on the side characters or the supporting characters. For example True Blood, even though everything was supposed to be about Sookie the show still payed attention to the side characters and as a result people had a reason to sit through Sookie’s bullshit. Because the side characters had the same amount of screen time as her, and at times the show didn’t bring up Sookie at times. You would think she was a side character because the side characters got more attention than her, but nope she wasn’t. Being a protagonist is one thing, a protagonist is key central to the story but they still are no the center of attention or a Mary Sue, but being a Mary Sue is a completely different thing. Being a Mary Sue means you are bland, dull, lifeless. You are so perfect you have all of the guys fawning over you, and you can be a damsel in distress at times but then you become a badass bitch. You have some sort of supernatural lineage, and all of the girls that trash talk you are just jealous and want what you have. Everything revolves around you!

And the CW doesn’t seem to get the message that others are getting…

PEOPLE HATE YOUR FUCKING MARY SUES! THEY RUIN YOUR TV SHOWS!

gryffindor-terrier  asked:

So I absolutely loved your most recent RP with TT. I was just wondering if you ship wolfstar? And how you picture Remus falling for Tonks after Sirius' death?

(( OOC: Thank you! And I do ship Wolfstar, probably just as much as I do Remadora. For me, I really like how the two relationships compliment each other, and how they are able to exist in the same timeline.

I talked a little bit about it here, but my head canon is that Remus and Sirius weren’t able to make a romantic relationship work after the first wizarding war. If anything, I think maybe Sirius was more inclined to still have feelings towards Remus, but ultimately both men had been through too much and were too changed from the young boys they once were. And at this point, Remus honestly doesn’t believe he is worthy of love. He’s too broken, and Sirius is too broken to help him realise he’s wrong. That’s where Tonks comes in.

Tonks is a complete force of nature, so different from anyone Remus has ever met before. What starts as a partnership slowly turns into the type of friendship Remus so desperately needs. Tonks is clever, and funny, and over months of various Order missions they become more and more at ease with each other. They’re a team, but they’re best friends, too.

And then Sirius dies.

Sirius was the last connection Remus had to his old self, to a time where he was happy and where he had friends who loved him. When he loses that, Remus can’t envision any future where he may be happy again. He volunteers for incredibly dangerous missions, not caring whether he lives or dies. But Tonks cares. She is there as a friend, first and foremost, but she cares, and she saves him.

In the months after his death, leading up to You Could Be Happy, Remus and Tonks grow even closer. Remus realises she has become one of the only good things left in his life and he knows that some part of him is falling for her - but also knows that he could never be with her - and besides, she would never return those feelings. *cue intense eye roll*

Of course, Tonks returns his feelings. When he finds out, it completely throws Remus off. Post-war Remus has not experienced love or being loved in a very long time and it’s terrifying. But it’s also dangerous, because Remus knows loss more so than anyone, and he can’t go through it again. Whilst he loves Tonks, he doesn’t want to sentence her to a relationship with a werewolf, so he refuses to acknowledge his feelings - both to her, and himself.

Tonks isn’t oblivious - she knows Remus has strong feelings for her. So it wasn’t ever a case of convincing him to be with her… it was a case of convincing him he was worthy of being with her. Crucially, Tonks knows Remus for who he is then, and doesn’t expect him to be anyone else. She isn’t there to fix the broken man, because she already loves him. In the end, Remus starts to allow himself to love Tonks… and to be loved in return.

And they all lived happily ever after the end. ))

In this world, when soulmates touch for the first time, they start to cry.

This is the hardest part.

Sitting here, watching them; the thirteen stars who have lit up most of your days for the past few years. Looking back on it now, it simultaneously feels like aeons have past and not a second at all. Time, you have learnt over the years, is relative to the experiences we fill it with and every second spent with these boys – men, now – were a small infinity.

As you wait your turn you remember how they came into your life that day; something like an accident, serendipitous and fateful. Not every moment was happy – there were times when even their smiles and laughter couldn’t protect you from the meanness of the world – but they reminded you constantly that the hard always came with the good so you were never sad for very long. Their determination in turn made you stronger too.

Hard work pays off, right, isn’t that what they say?

You made many friends along the way. Friends who are more than just casual internet acquaintances – friends you have held and laughed with and loved.

Walking on Glass A little SJ fandom rant

Wow…. How about that new episode of Samurai Jack? Pretty trippy right? I mean, that part where he eats something and his head turns into a fish. Like how dose that work exactly? Pretty funny, huh? Heh…heh…heh… Where do I begin? So happen was, last night was the premiere of the new Samurai Jack season 5 episode 8, in which Jack and Ashi are making their way across the desert. Hmm… Why dose this sound familiar? Anyway, during their ride on a giant camel monster used as a bus, Jack and Ashi find themselves in a pretty close to each other and it is that this point where they’re relationship takes quite a turn. During their journey, they come across a large spaceship to escape a dust storm. Only to find out that the ship is still infested by a leach monster. After they finally defeat it, at the heat of the moment Jack and Ashi then make out and that when the “fans” starting setting fire to their insides.

I said I was gonna get back to the messy subject and the hail storm of raging “fans” that apparently this episode has brought upon. After reading through a number of these hissy-fit heated debates, I couldn’t help but laugh at a few, roll my eyes at most and have the rest cause me to put my hands in my face. Seriously, all it took was a kiss and some awkward but sweet bonding moments for people to get up in arms saying crap like “They ruined the show!” “How could you Genndy?” “The show’s gone downhill.” And those are just some of the less visceral comments I’ve seen…. It really makes me sad. It really makes me sad to see a show I loved as a kid, get second chance at finishing it’s story and the one tiny moment that wasn’t even remotely negative in any way, would then cause such a shit storm, that I have to sit back and wonder why did I have to be born as a human being… Oh am I sounding bit harsh here? *eh-hem* I suppose some would prefer it if I went back to my dark little corner of the internet and remain silent like I usually do. Heck No! I feel I should be aloud to express my own opinion, while setting somethings straight. (Pun not intended.) Now, I will not be completely demonizing people who are against this ship, because some do have a few valid points as to why they don’t like it or this episode and thats understandable. I’m not saying you have to like it. Again it’s all matter of choice and opinion. (get use to hearing that.) But! What I am irritated by is how people are practicality screaming out things like “Pedophile” “Forced” “Rushed” “Poorly Written” “Not gay equals bad” “Boy-cot” and other things that are just… Really really stupid… So I may has well give you guys my own two cents here. I don’t expect to change any minds here; just take what I say with a grain of salt. You have plenty of it, anyway…

Jack and Ashi should have been platonic. Like father and daughter.”

The moment I was first introduced to Ashi in episode 1, I knew she was going to play some important roll in the new season. I knew she was going to be some kind of ally to Jack. She wasn’t a mindless drown like her sisters. She was curious about the world. Now keep in mind, from the beginning, I wasn’t automatically shipping these two. I knew a bond was gonna form between them eventually, but I really didn’t know what type of relationship it was gonna be, nor did I care. Yes, it didn’t really matter to me, father/daughter, teacher/student, boyfriend/girlfriend, whatever! All I cared about was seeing these two lost souls find happiness in one another. They make a great team already, so no matter which way it was gonna go, I was going to be satisfied either way. Being the gray smudge that I am, I kept an open mind about this. I’m not a big crack shipper anyway. Then again I don’t get into ships that much because I know how scary they can be. So thats why I stick with pairings that are canon and that I like. But I’m sure that this might be one of the reasons why people were a upset by this. They were really hoping for that platonic relationship. Sorry, don’t know what tell you there. Not everything in a show is gonna go your way. This is what Genndy wanted, but just because you didn’t agree with it, doesn’t mean you should be flat out calling it bad writing and hate the rest of the series for it!  I’ll get into the pacing issues later, right now it’s time to adress the elephant in the room…

Jack’s too old for Ashi and Ashi’s a little girl!”

Yes, time is a BIG issue in this series and I can understand the problem some “fans” are having with the whole age gap thing. Like he should be really old by this point, but heres the thing. Jack doesn’t age. He’s still stuck in his 20’s psychically AND mentally. Yes, I said mentally as well. His mind is worn out but not old. Like Jack said, time has lost it’s a effect on him. As for Ashi, I’m almost more than certain that she’s in her 20’s as well. The real problem shouldn’t be the fact that he’s older than her. The REAL problem should be the fact that he can’t age but she still can. Really, I’m surprised nobody’s getting more mad with Aku about this, since, you know? He’s the one responsible for this whole issue in the first place. Whats more annoying though, is the fact that this has become the main and almost only reason “fans” have for not liking this pairing! I mean come on! I can go on for why Edward and Bella are a bad couple, not just because he’s a hundred years old, but also because despite being a hundred he still goes to high school for some reason, acts like a creep around Bella, calls her his personal brand of heroine (and how much he wants to eat her.) breaks into her room to watch her sleep at night and throws her against the wall. Yet she does absolutely nothing about it and still acts so dependent on him like she can’t stand on her own two feet! * hem* Getting a off topic, I should also point out that this is not the first time we’ve seen a fictional couple where one person is way older than the other. It’s been done many times in media. Aragon and Arwen, Rose and Greg, Aang and Katara, Inuyasha and Kagome and nobody bats an eye there. But I know you’re probably going make excuses as to why I’m wrong for comparing some these couples to Jack and Ashi. “Uh, but Rose isn’t even human! She’s a gem and they don’t age!” Still doesn’t change the fact that she’s still thousands of years older than him. What does being a rock- I’m sorry, a Mineral not a rock, have to do with her age? And that can go the same for Arwen and Inuyasha as well. “But-but Aang was frozen in a sphere of ice.” Yeah, keeping him persevered for over a hundred something years thus delaying his ability to age until he was set free and why he’s still twelve. Even though technically speaking he was born way before Katara was born. Hell, I could dare say that Jack is in his own sphere of ice. Just not literally. Time and age have stopped round him. Thing is, even with out the fifty year time-skip Jack would still be considered thousands of years old since he comes from feudal era Japan. So no matter what girl he ended up with in this future, he would still be way older than her regardless. The more I hear this excuse brought up, the less water it holds and the more desperate it sounds. Especially when you have no other strong argument to bring, as to why these two shouldn’t be together. Oh, and don’t even think about calling it pedophilia! Just because we saw Ashi growing up as a child doesn’t mean she is one now. I’m pretty certain she’s past the teen stage. In fact we even saw what she looked like during that stage. So treating her like she’s still a child is kind of insulting, honestly. You’re consent miss use of the word, makes me want to strangle myself. Okay I’ve been ranting about this for too long… Let’s- let’s get to our next topic.

Why does media keep pushing for heterosexual couples? What a bunch of Homophobes!”

*Sssssssiiigggghhh….* I know not everyone who disagrees with this pairing thinks this way, but my God Tumblr… What’s with the extremism? I’ve always tried to be more opened minded about a lot of things. Accept others for who they are and have always said love is a very strange thing. So don’t you DARE blindly accuse me as a “homophobe” for what a I’m about to say here… Not everything has to be gay, in order to tell a good love story! There I said it! A good love story is when you can feel the connection between two characters no matter what their sexual preference is. I don’t like Ruby and Sapphire just because they’re mineral space lesbians, I like them because of how much they care for each other and how they can have fights and make-ups like any other couple and so on and so forth. Thats what makes a good pairing. Also saying it’s out of character for Jack to have an attraction to a female because your head-canon tells you he’s either ace or homo, is also not true as well. Not saying you still can’t have your ace/gay Jack crack ships. You don’t have to have canon dictate to you what you can or can’t ship. I’m simply saying that Jack has always been attracted to woman in the show. Remember when he got kissed by that girl in the field when he was a kid. He still has fond memories of it. And is it just me or did everyone forgot, Ikra, Josephine, or that creepy flower lady from ‘Seasons of Death’ happened? Given how nervous he gets around woman he finds attractive and how flustered he gets when seeing Ashi naked, it’s clear to me now, that he is definitely not her biological father as well. Now that he’s out of his depression, it was only a matter of time before he started falling for Ashi. Why is this anti-hetero/homophobia thing even an argument at all?! Why is it even brought up?

But the pacing felt so rushed! How dare they force the love-interest trope down our throats. This came out of nowhere!”

Okay, I’m going to briefly play devil’s advocate here. I can get where the rushed pacing argument comes from. But forced? No, put a pin on that last one. We’re gonna get back to that later. First I can agree that the pacing felt a bit rushed. (Though this isn’t the first time I’ve enjoyed something with a rushed pace. *cough*9*cough*) Still, keep in mind that the creator was only given ten episodes to work with. So certain things had to be cut out, I’m sure. If they were going make thirteen I’m pretty certain that would have given them more time to further expand on Jack and Ashi’s relationship, rather then cramming all the more romanic stuff in it into this episode. However, that doesn’t mean that the romance came out of no where. There were some hints dropped here and there since the beginning of episode 3 infact. We got only two more episodes left, so 8 had to be the one to fully confirm how Jack and Ashi are starting to feel for each other. I do feel like there could have been some other things they could have changed in the previous episodes to help further accentuate the relationship a little better in this episode. As far as this season goes, it may not be one of their strongest episodes, but it’s not their worst either. I still enjoyed it, romance and all. Honestly I think the real weak point was the conflict of being lost in the ship with the leach creatures. Like where was everyone else, what was the backstory to this space prison. This episode was always going to be about Jack and Ashi falling love no matter what. It’s just everything else was going to just feel like a little bit of an after thought. Another complaint I’ve heard was that this episode felt like “filler” and did nothing to progress the plot of the story. Well, I like to think of this as the calm before the storm. (Irony) You know, a few light-hearted laughs to put us at ease before the shit it’s the fan. (At least thats what it was suppose to be…) Though something tells me they’re just doing this to break our hearts later… And what lack of plot progression. The plot progression was with Jack and Ashi. With that said, going back to the “forced” bit. As I said before it was hinted at early on, the moment Jack and Ashi started interacting with each other. But I think the problem is because they were hinted at so subtlety, I guess it’s kinda easy for most people to miss them. Thing is we don’t really know how long it took Jack and Ashi to go from that mounted to that market area or how long it took for them to find that bird. You can use your mind fill in the gaps there. But I feel that to really cover this topic and why I don’t find their relationship “forced” I’m going to have to dive in deeper.

Shoot me…

Okay, now I’m going to get into what I think of these two and why I think they work as a pair. Starting off with Jack, he’s pretty much been through hell at this point. Losing his home, separated from his family, spends the rest of his childhood training to earn his father’s sword, only meets his parents again briefly before he goes off to fight Aku. Only to have the rug pulled out from under him when Aku throws him into the future. For fifty years this man has had to deal with so much pain and suffering. Getting trolled with by Aku, always having something try to kill him, being alone, seeing all the Hell that Aku has raised, suffering from hallucinations and no matter how hard he tries, he can never seem to reach his goal. Ultimately what leads to his depression. The more time passes him by while he remains young, the further and further his goal gets. He has lost all hope. Somewhere during those fifty years, a cult of Aku obsessed women have a ceremony for their High Priestess who’s given birth to seven daughters for the soul purpose to kill Samurai Jack. However one of these girls is not like the others. Ashi, does not have the same mind set as her sisters. She’s curious about the world outside, wants to see the beauty of nature, but is trapped with in the confides of her abusive mother. Never aloud to play or have fun. Never shown any love or bonding with her family. Forced into training at such a young age and all while being told nothing but lies about the Samurai and what an evil person he is, ruining Aku’s “perfect” world. Having never met this man, it only filled Ashi’s heart with anger and hate. Now fully grown, training complete, she and her sisters set off to kill Jack. Not knowing what they were getting themselves into. Not realizing that there mother essentially sent them out to die. And thus the journey begins for these two lost souls. Jack struggling to keep moving forward while being haunted by his own negative emotions as well as being hunted down by a shogun of death. Ashi, blinded by hatred towards a man who’s done her no wrong, she does not realizes she’s fighting for the wrong side. During the search for the Samurai, Ashi and her sisters come across a doe in the forest. That’s when the buck shows up. Thinking it’s related to Aku, they thing it’s come to “devour the weaker one.” What they didn’t expect to see was the two deer nuzzling each others noses. This was the first time any of them have seen affection before. Which leaves them so confused, as they were never taught to love but to hate. One of them even says she doesn’t like it. I also consider this part foreshadowing. It’s is only after he defeats them, does the ball really get rolling. Jack assumes he’s killed Ashi like the rest, but the guilt of what he’s done continues to eat a way at him. Ashi then wakes up, still hell bent on trying to kill him. She ends up getting restrained by her own chain and it is here, where Jack finally has a chance to see the woman behind the mask. A very troubled woman, who has clearly lost her way like him. Seeing that she is not evil and feeling bad for killing the others, Jack not only lets her live, but goes out of his way to protect her. The real turning point comes when Jack and Ashi escape the goliath monster. Ceasing the opportunity, Ashi slowly starts to creep up on him, while he isn’t looking, but just as she’s a bout to try and kill him that’s when the ladybug appears. This triggers a memory of when she was a child. During her training, she sees a ladybug and lets it land on her hand. Her mother scolds her for this, taking the bug away and killing it in front of her. Going back to reality, that bug flies over to Jack. He rises his hand to it as Ashi watches, wondering what he’s about to do. To her surprise, he lets the ladybug go, showing an act of kindness. Causing Ashi to drop her weapon; he’s not the monster her mother made him out to be. Through Jack, she learns more about the world, Ashi begins to see the truth as he shows her the beauty of nature and horror that Aku has caused. Ashi does begin to believe him, but the moment that seals the deal is after they save bunch of children from enslavement, Jack freaks out when we thinks they’re all dead. He heads off with the Omen (the shogun of death from earlier) to commit suicide and she goes to find him. Thats when she meets some of the people Jack has helped over the years, thats when she fully sees the man he really is. Thinking of her past and all the good Jack has done, this is what inspires her to change her appearance. And it’s because of her that Jack was able to regain his hope. She gave him the strength he needed to fight off his own demons. She protected him while he was in deep meditation to find his sword. From an army and her own mother no less. She does not hold any ill will towards him for killing her sisters, as it was out of self defense. It was her mother who sent them out there in the first place. Now that his hope has been restored and is back to being his old self. Now that he gotten to know her and sees how much she has changed for the better, it should come has no surprise that they would start noticing each other in more ways. I mean this is probably the longest anyone has ever traveled with him. So how does any of that sound forced? There was build up. Sorry if you couldn’t see it.

Final Thoughts…

Ya know, I find it pathetic that this is the reason people are getting so upset that they want to quit the show when theres only two episodes left to go. And you call yourselves fans… Can’t we just wait to see how the out come and then make our criticize afterwards. I’m even more disappointed with the fan-base than I am with the episode because of how everyone is acting like this pairing is such a crime. When this season started I thought this was gonna be fun. But now I’m just left sour over yet another fandom like I was with the “9” fandom. I’ve seen people literally saying that it made them feel uncomfortable and ruined the WHOLE series for them. Say, you wanna know what makes me feel uncomfortable? Is the more I think about it, the more it disturbs me that anybody will get pissed over a healthy relationship like this one, yet you’ll see abusive couples like Harley Quinn and Joker, Fifty Shades of Gray and the of mentioned Twilight get glorified. Am I the only one who sees something wrong there? And after all the shit that Jack and Ashi have been through, wouldn’t you want to see them to be happy? Isn’t that what many of us wanted? My only concern is now that it’s established that Jack and Ashi have deeper feelings for one another, how is the final going to effect them. Are the rumors I keep hearing going to be true? I’ve always been wanting to know how this series is going to end since I was eight years old and nothing is going to stop me for watching the ending. I don’t even care how it’s going to end. I don’t care if it breaks my heart. At least I will now know and I will accept what ever Genndy has in store. Like I said from the beginning, you’re not wrong for disliking or disagreeing with this pairing, I’m not wrong for liking it and thats fine. But don’t act like this is such a travesty that it makes you dislike the entire series, don’t quite while we’re so close to the end. This whole mess has just become childish at this point. But hey, hate me all you want for expressing my opinion. There is nothing you can say to me that hasn’t already been said before. Hate never fixes anything. Hate is what got Ashi’s sisters killed in the long run. I’ve been rambling on about this for too long. Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna make some Jashi fan art while I still can. In the mean time enjoy this little quote.

(I submitted instead of made a series of asks cause it would have been like 12 parts)

I made a potential observation on ninja interpersonal culture while thinking about a message you got on Sound!Naruto and I don’t know if I’m disgusted or entertained?

My thoughts started out from the line “Oro kidnaps Naruto when he defects (maybe tie in some MinaOro/MinaKushiOro for reasoning or just because he wants a jinchuuriki)” because the idea really appeals to me. All the discussion on MinaOro got me pumped, trope wise I’m into age gaps and OT3’s and inexperienced older men and inexperienced older men being dragged by the ear into OT3’s and powerful women absolutely wearing the pants over their powerful men and whether Kushina and Oro’s sexuality are compatible with one another or not I care little either way, they are just so fun to stick in a room together. And what really tickles me in child rearing OT3’s is when the obviously non genetic parent is ALL OVER parenting that child.

So I was sitting there wallowing in my fantasies and was just like “Oh gosh how cute would that be, It’d be like Reverse redux, Daddy Oro steals away his child, all smiles and on the run and M(P)aternal love, while the whole of Konoha is positive that that boy is in for a world of creepy pain and testing cause no one knew about Naruto’s parents, and the ones that did might not have known about Oro?” and about that same time I came across a post where there was some disappointment shown that Jiraiya didn’t seem to remember Kushina’s name, despite being close to Minato, and the anime’s treatment of women. I agree, but I did have this passing thought, that it still at least made sense in context of the show, since giving the name Uzumaki to Naruto seemed to have sheltered him from a vast majority of the village when it comes to knowing his roots, and with the wonky timeline, it can be argued that how far Minato and Kushina’s relationship before Jiraiya leaves is debatable, and despite being Naruto’s godfather, he may have never actually realized that Minato’s relationship with Kushina came that far, that it was just Minato’s kid and wife who was in a village far away and it could or could not have been Kushina.

And that, the fact that Jiraiya didn’t know Kushina’s name, mixed with that really annoying to me fact that the majority of the village didn’t know the new Hokage had a wife and kid or the details of them at least, and just, a million little details of ridiculous amounts of lacking knowledge all hit me at once. The identities of working Anbu are supposed to be unknown to everyone but the Hokage when there’s a small pool of potential candidates with specific and powerful abilities comes to mind? Most people ignore that in fic and just roll. Danzo getting away with so much, even if Hiruzen himself was at least somewhat aware, is almost unbelievable, as is the fact that Naruto’s generation has been going to classes to teach the basic’s of ninjitsu, but they still need a lot of exposition to learn about the world around them in things that probably should have been covered at this point. A lot of pedigrees of a LOT of main characters is full of suspicious holes that none of the characters are to thrilled to try and fill, and the daily lives of friends and colleges are often mysteries until the series itself deems it funny for another character to explore. And every time I think of this junk, I think why and usually draw a blank, but not this time.

And you know, everyone makes out Konoha and the other villages to be a (kinda goofy) den of snoopy ninja and one-upmanship and everyone is always observing and learning things about everyone else and…. funny thought…stick with me here…what if it’s not? What if everyone else genuinely has no clue whats happening with everyone else, or even how far that everyone else extends? It kinda makes sense. Like, children, massive amounts of children go missing and receives no comment until they are found. Political plots are conceived and hatched and come to tragic ends for a lack of information on several accounts. People wander into town and are never questioned on their source. Nobody seems to check in on Naruto, or Sasuke, or Obito, or Kakashi, or Orochimaru, or any other Konoha orphans who’s backstory we know.

What if, when it comes to your own village, you just don’t go poking your nose in?

Like we see some of what most people frame the village as in fandom in really early Naruto and some latter filler episodes, but with some exceptions (such as Kakashi and Gai’s antics) it’s mostly Naruto’s generation who does all the shenanigans and poking around. And Konaha, heck the village system in general, and I tend to forget this, is actually fairly new. It’s what? About 6 generations young? That’s ridiculous! And a majority of that time is spent in war. Think about that, and it really makes sense. The previous generation finishes off a war young, and is only just now, within the last decade, still in mourning and still fighting, starting to show some rowdiness, and this applies back to the village’s conception. In all, Naruto’s gen is probably the first to embrace their superhuman abilities as something to play with whole heartily.

So before now there’s probably very little active play snooping that happens outside of the sort of practice play you get in little genin teams, so snooping from curiosity or joy is out. There’s still a palpable tension between the Uchiha and Hyuuga, so there’s probably a sort of active discouragement to snoop, a show of trust to try and assuage tensions and prevent war. On the same note, ninja at the heart of it are a mercenary culture. They do terrible things for the right price, and that sort of lifestyle asks that questions of motivation are better left unasked. Your average ninja might just assume that if something seems suspicious, then either the higher ups already know about it, and you risk ruining whatever measures are being taken to change or work against the suspicious thing, or you snoop and potentially find something you shouldn’t and don’t make it out alive.

And take a lot of the big gaping common sense plot holes and fill it in with that mentality and it works. Danzo got away with so much because Hiruzen assumed suspicious activity would be reported, and anyone outside of Danzo’s network who saw suspicious activity assumed that the activity was known and being addressed. Both Itachi and Oro didn’t question Danzo’s orders, despite knowing they were wrong, because in their shoes they couldn’t know how far the “Danzo knew that Hiruzen knew that Danzo knew that Hiruzen knew…” train went and had to trust the Hokage. No one ever comes to help Naruto or any of the other tragic backstory orphans, because anyone who would care, their own issues aside, might assume that no matter how bad it looks, someone else has got it. No one attacked Konoha after the Kyuubi attack because Hiruzen did everything in his power to squash every single rumor about it both within and without his village, people didn’t talk, meaning most didn’t know it happened until Konoha had rallied it’s defenses. If anything, the planned Uchiha coup just proves how dangerous rumors can be in a ninja village, and how they might try and prevent people from poking their noses into everything. And that trickles down into the every day lives of a whole group of war torn and grieving people who have isolated themselves, living in a world that discourages attempts at breaking that isolation. The restaurant owners and shopkeeps don’t run the rumor mill, Konoha doesn’t have a rumor mill, and if you hint otherwise it could be dangerous for you and your store.

So here’s some food for thought that just came to my mind. What if Mikoto didn’t know who Naruto’s father was? Like, knowing that her eventual conception and birth would weaken the seal, Kushina is not allowed to tell anyone who doesn’t come across the information about her marriage just in case, and Mikoto doesn’t question it, because that’s how it works in the village. Terrifying.

(Also taking that into account, you could probably insert any crack ship into canon and not change it at all cause fudge if anyone knew what was happening outside their little spheres back then, it’s all news to them. Any number of illegitimate children and secret family and marriages and torrid love affairs could come to light and it would be all news to them.)

I found this amusing and at least it tries to patch over some gaping plot holes, but whether you go with everyone being idiots and nothing makes sense, or this barely cohesive mess, and of course there are always exceptions…

Tl;dr, Naruto world ninja ARE BAD AT THEIR JOBS.

BTS A.R.M.Y: RULES TO KNOW IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE FANDOM

As you may have noticed, BTS are now having a huge time in America and a great impact in te world’s music industry. That has brought to them a big bunch of new stans. The A.R.M.Y family is growing huge, and if you are new to the fandom of course all of your unnies and oppas will welcome you with a smile. BUT there exist a bunch of rules and behaviors us, A.R.M.Y, need to follow if we want to keep up with the tag of «most loyal fandom» and the peace, order and good connivance.

Well, so let’s begin.

Rule #1:
You WON’T start fights with other fandoms. Avoid fandom wars.

As you may notice, A.R.M.Ys have a delicate relationship with our EXO-Ls sisters. Most of us are tired of the ones in the fandoms that start fights. So PLEASE be careful with what you say. Praise all groups for their hard work. If you don’t come to like EXO or any other K-Pop group, you don’t have the right to express disapproval by insulting them or their fans. Be mature. Let’s show the K-Pop community that A.R.M.Y has grown up.

Rule #2:
You WON’T call BTS kings or gods unironically.

BTS are a great group that has come too far by themselves. Yes, they tend to break stereotypes and be different, and yes, they may be one of the bests boybands out there. BUT that doesn’t make them any superior to other groups. What we want is to have a harmonious community, and avoid fandom wars. Fandom wars regularly begin when proud and egocentric stans call their groups the best in the industry. All groups are doing their best and have done their best. There is no king, no queen, no god or goddess of K-Pop. In a subjective point of view, BTS may be the bests for you, but just remember there exist variety of opinion in the community and you shouldn’t try to convince anyone of your own truth.

Rule #3:
You are NOT going to compare the members.

BTS is a group that has been outstanding because of the unbelievably great relationship the members have, plus their humility and sincerity. They love each other as brothers and are a true example of brotherhood and team work. As well, us A.R.M.Y have to appreciate their hard work by equal. In this band, there is no rapper better than other, or singer better than other. They all have their talents and stand out for their own unique skills. I beg you to please don’t compare the members ever.

Rule #3:
Avoid talking about BTS everywhere.

Some fandoms are tired of A.R.M.Y bringing up BTS in every topic. It’s not surprising since we are known for being loyal and passionate to our boys. However, this tends to tiren up other fandoms. Let’s say that right now the A.R.M.Y community doesn’t have a very honored title among the K-Pop stans because of that. Much of them hate the fandom and even hate our boys’ success because of the fandom itself. I know it sounds ridiculous. But let’s try to change it. If another group is in the highlights, let’s congratulate them and their fandom. Let’s not fall in haughtiness.

Rule #4:
Defend the boys.

Up there I mentioned to avoid fandom wars. And yes, avoid them. BUT defend the boys in a good manner whenever you see someone insulting them or the fandom. If you are A.R.M.Y you’ll soon fall in love with the family, and as a strong family we protect each other. Actually, A.R.M.Y are known for being protective, so lets keep up on that. If you are having trouble defending the boys or the family to someone that is being missbehave and rude, call other A.R.M.Y to stand out in defence WITH GOOD MANNERS. Cease to fight with anyone who is being stubborn, better leave them in their own ignorance.

Rule #5:
STAN MUSIC, NOT JUST LOOKS.

BTS are a group well known for caring a lot more about their art than their visuals. If you want to be a true A.R.M.Y you should clearly listen to all their albums, the tracks they’ve developed outside the BigHit label, their mixes, read their translated lyrics, realize how poetic and beautiful their music is. If you gotta show off something about the boys, its their talent, trust me. Sure they are handsome and charismatic, but they are real for their music. Sure they may have called your attention at first glance because of their great looks, but know there is more about them than just pretty faces and expensive clothing.

Rule #6:
GET RID OF THE APPROPIATION SENSE.

This is very important: your bias does not belong to you. It hasn’t happened yet, but if one of the boys ever decides to have a public relationship with whoever, you must not insult their partner or hate on them even if the jelousy is killing you. Realize how immature and ridiculous that is.

Rule #7:
Don’t take the ships too far.

I know a lot of fans that get really obssessed with ships. It happens in every fandom. But please, remember that being too obvious about the ships can make the boys uncomfortable and also other stans. Don’t insult your fellow unnies and oppas if they happen to ship anything different from you. Don’t start ship wars in the fandom. Don’t make yourself any illusion that your ship may be canon, because by now we are not sure about the boys’ sexuality and we’ve only see their brotherly love side. They are adorable, I know, but don’t make yourself any wrong conception of what they really think about each other. Also, you will notice that in this fandom specially there is… hum… how can I say it… Poligamy? xD Kind of, there are tons of ships. Basically you can ship every member with every other member, even outside the group! You’ll find some crazy shippers, some multi-shippers (as me), and some rare species that only happen to ship one thing (I don’t have a clue of how they manage to stay loyal to their only ship omg). However, you can have fun with this, but just don’t take it to insanity. Please.

Rule #8:
Learn which kind of jokes may result offensive.

I’m not going to lie, A.R.M.Y is a dope fandom. The best thing I love about this family is its humour sense. The jokes, the memes, the crack vids, its all fantastic. BUT as in everything, you need to know what is accepted and what is not. For example; don’t call Seokjin a princess. He doesn’t like being called that way, its disrespectful. Instead, why not call him a charming prince? or an egocentric bitch, I don’t know xD (Also realize that Seokjin is a very sarcastic person and he may seem arrogant if you can’t catch the joke, but he’s just very funny and his humour tends to be ironical. Just a little fact here) and also, don’t call Taehyung an alien. He doesn’t like that either, and I don’t want to talk to you about the scold you will receive from a V biased if they ever hear you call him an alien. I, myself, am an example of that. Don’t call him stupid or dumb either, he is not. Don’t call Yoongi lazy too often, if you do that sure there’ll be some Suga biased claiming to you he is not lazy at all (tho that may be a lie and we know it xD). Don’t EVER dare to say Namjoon or Hoseok are ugly. Ever. You’ll get hurt, trust me. I mean, I don’t even know why someone would joke about that, they are like the most beautiful creatures I’ve seen in my freaking life ???  I’ve been a long time on this fandom, and I think by now some very acceptable jokes that have always been funny are jokes about Jimin’s height and Jungkook’s bunny looks. However, these are jokes that the boys themselves started and tell, so we assume its correct if we use them. Whenever the boys end a joke, we stop making fun of it.

Rule #9:
Guide your new sisters and brothers into the fandom.

Help people know well their new family. More important: get people interested in BTS! Show your friends the MV’s, tell them about the crazy theories and how charming and talented the boys are. As good A.R.M.Y our work is to help them gain recognition, and guiding new people to their concepts and music is a way to make it.

Rule #10:
Don’t be a koreaboo.

We know Korea is a very interesting country and the mother of one of the greatest cultures, but a lot of people will find annoying and even racist if you get too obssessed with South Korean’s popular culture or Hallyu. I may have to admit that me myself was a koreaboo for a long time and have been sometimes. South Korea its fantastic and its media culture its very attractive, but know that there also exist other means of comsumption and markets around the world. Also, please, don’t create yourself a fetiche around asian people. That is racist. Control yourselves, fam. Don’t get me wrong; support the hallyu, but don’t take the obssession too far. Also, don’t trust the website named “koreaboo” because it’s bullshit.

I think that’s it for now. Those are kind of the important points I think of. Thank you for reading this and please reblog! If you want to add anything please feel free to do it.

The Love Square

So you’re asking for Miraculous, eh? For those who don’t know, The Love Square is the strange ship in ML fandom that has four different faces. This romantic spice is what really adds flair to the show known as Miraculous Ladybug because you can have it in different flavors (and all in canon!)!

And without further ado, introducing the Four Ships!

============================================================

LadyNoir The Super Ship

From awkward partners…

To a team …

This ship would hardly (actually, never) be absent in any of the episodes because they are the Super Team pair that fights akuma that appears in, like, every episode. So it’s hardly surprising that this ship gets the most screen time and shipping moments to enjoy. A relationship between two people hiding behind a mask, never letting one or the other know the identity of they are hiding, really leaves a lot for development opportunities. It’s easier to write about too, because you can develop their relationship with lots of romantic moments but not make them any closer to being a real couple. Ah, how romantic it is to fall in-love with a masked-person? It’s one of those romantic tropes that will never get old. It has all the suspense!

What fuels this ship is mostly our adorable cinnamon roll (trying to act like a “sinnamon roll”) working hard to “get” the girl.

This first meeting is not a “love at first sight”. Actually, far from it. Their first meeting was only awkward and only alleviated a bit by Chat’s humor and niceness.

In fact, he is actually more upbeat and much more aggressive than Ladybug (probably due to excitement of exploring a bigger world and a new adventure).

Then they fought together.

And he has fallen for her.

And now he tries his best to woo her, protect her, and be by her side against all adversity.

Too bad, she like the “other” him and cannot take him seriously. She trusts him as her partner anyway, and had good deal of faith in him as demonstrated in “Copy Cat” episode where she knew he was framed up immediately. And she also admitted in one of the webisodes that she would have fallen for him if she did not love “Adrien”.

The only thing I find negative in this ship is the fact that Chat Noir’s potential is being suppressed because of this “love”. There are complaints of Chat Noir was toned down into a sidekick/side role just to get LB in the spotlight. Others think this is poor/lazy writing to move up the heroine but the thing is, this is intentional.

Aside from his role in this story, Chat Noir is more prone to messing up and becomes more submissive (Yin trait) because of the fact that his “infatuation” is getting in his head. Chat Noir becoming “conceited” and constant bragging is proof of this. He is trying to boost his ego up because he lacks confidence. And this is why when others say we show out true selves behind the mask, I say this is not the case with CN. The wild and whimsy side of him is just a different side he doesn’t get much opportunity to show off due to circumstances. If anything, this cinnamon roll’s strengths is actually being suppressed as CN because of the said “love”. But since this is an intentional part of the writer, it’s safe to assume that they are going to make him overcome this (as shown in Reflekta episode).

I guess this is Marinette’s counterpart when it comes to love (see Adrienette). However, Marinette’s handling it better than him as you’ll see below.

AdrienetteThe “Normal” Ship

You know that typical shoujo trope where a “normal” girl is in-love with Mr. Popular? Well, the difference here is that Adrien is not the “typical” Mr. Popular. Typical ones in this trope are those who are like first concept of Chat Noir/Felix, and I’m glad to see Adrien take the role instead of him. He’s as normal as any other boy, if not sweeter and better. Okay, well, he’s not that normal either (and I’m not talking about him being an “Agreste” and rich kid!). I mean it’s rare to find a kid as good natured as he is! The point is, he’s as “normal” as our little heroine could get.

What I like about this ships are the parallels. They look different, but they are pretty much the same when it comes down to it. And I guess, this is the reason why they are such a perfect match. :)

Both are cinnamon rolls who are experiencing the tribulations of life and stumble upon the item that’ll change their fates. Both became superheroes, fell in love with the person who loves their other side. Both kept chasing each other turning the wheels of  fortune (or Yin-Yang if you will) creating a nice balance that suit your pallet.

The only problem is that everyone else holds Adrien in a pedestal which makes him look pretty distant from the others (okay, he isn’t), in the same way LB is on the pedestal in the LN ship (the Heroine is out of his league, not).

When it comes to development, this ship is on par with Ladynoir (if not better). This is why I said, Marinette fairs better than Chat Noir. At least she can make Adrien appreciate and look at her (not that Ladybug doesn’t appreciate Chat but we all know she’s constantly ignoring his advances sharply). They shared a lot of moments (which I’m not gonna elaborate anymore since it’s too much time) which are both cute, fluffy, and progressive (just look at The Gamer episode for example). It’s to the point I actually suspect that Adrien may unknowingly falling in-love with Marinette base on how he acts differently in front of her (in the same way he treats LB)! Then the Christmas episode, where he unhesitatingly gave away the present she sent him! Like, you don’t do that to a present from your “special someone”. :(

This ship is the parallel of Ladynoir where it’s a normal and peaceful sailing ship compared to the battle-oriented and supernatural flair LN had.

What I like about this ship is Marinette’s constant effort to being closer with Adrien, and Adrien’s open-mindedness when it comes to dealing with her. I mean, her nervous attitude would have make anyone think she’s being a weirdo (especially if that’s the side you always see) but he only tilts his head every time like a curious cat! This is a really cute and fluffy ship if you ask me. And a dose of it is a nice break after the action-packed adventure with the LadyNoir tandem.

MariChatThe Pure Ship

Haha, the irony!

Everyone’s aware that Marichat is actually regarded as the most sinful in the fandom. Though in reality, this ship is actually farthest from sinning. Why? For obvious reasons, they do not like each other! Of course, in fanfiction, it’s different.

In FF, we got the sensible Marinette  suddenly having a night visit from the casanova who is in need of “care” and Chat Noir dropping on her rooftop for one reason or the other (probably drama from his father/heartbroken by LB). Marinette comforts him and the two falling in-love which also leads to “sin”. Well, that’s pretty much what I saw from fanarts though I’m not sure about those written ones.

Meanwhile, in canon, their interactions are pretty much …

Marinette (still being spunky) act “normal” and pretends to “fan girl” over him but laughs behind his back

And …

Chat Noir unknowingly saving the “love of his life”

… Also, unwittingly leaving the wrong impression to her too.

Of course, both are none the wiser from knowing that they are talking to their significant other, which is funny and ironic at the same time.

I think the reason why this ship is the most “sinful” in fandom despite their not-so-honest and pure interactions is that Adrien is a cinnamon roll as Adrien but sexy as Chat Noir, meanwhile, Marinette is more endearing as Marinette and less spunky compared to Ladybug. And what do we need when it comes to sins? Of course, a “sexy” evildoer and an “endearing” heroine!

LadrienThe Underestimated

Why “The Underestimated”? Well, when it comes to fans and the show, they unarguably get the least amount of work or screen time. The reason being, well, they are pretty much in-love with each other and leaves less room for development and interesting scenarios compared to the other three ships. Not to mention, their interactions were usually filled with awkwardness and holding back (but that’s pretty much normal if you are talking in front of your crush ne?). Though I must say, they actually have pretty powerful moments. Though I think the reason they are not as much touched upon by fans compared to other ships is also because of their lack of screen time.

The show creators have much more justifiable reason which is that they cannot make these two interact too much without making them realize that the other actually likes them back (these two dorks just doesn’t know how to hide their feelings for too long, ya know?), and they cannot become a couple without knowing each other’s identity. It will be too hard for Marinette to think that Adrien is only in-love with her because she’s “Ladybug” and not see her for her “real” self. This is especially highlighted in the Christmas episode.

Which is why, the other three ships need to be developed first before this one. If these two became a couple immediately, Marinette will have her personality suppressed as LB while Adrien will constantly frustrate over LB’s real identity. It won’t feel cleanly cut or finished (It’s like you cheated into it or something).

Anyways, this ship, despite little screen time, actually has wonderful moments.

Such as the “love struck” look when they accidentally met in the street … when Ladybug showed ready to give up her powers for Adrien …

Or this moment when he casually pushed his bestfriend aside to greet Ladybug.

But my favorite moment of all is this

When Adrien talked about his mom with her …

Aren’t they such a sweet couple? The fact that he talked about his mother with her is already a pretty powerful and tender moment. Also, Adrien writing a love letter for her also counts as their “Ladrien” moment more than an “Adrienette” one. Plus, the classic “Jealousy” trope in the Volpina and The Bubbler episode.

Oh, there’s also the “Shower Scene” you won’t get with the other ships xD

In Ladrien’s moments, Ladybug tries to act hard and becomes more stiff at trying to act as “the Hero”. I think it comes from pressure that she must separate her feelings from duty too (and she’s obviously having a hard time, if not failing at that). It’s already impressive enough that she’s not  using LB to woo Adrien, though. But I think that’s also because she fears he won’t fall for the “real” her if she did (in which case, wise decision). Although I’m pretty positive Adrien would fall for her as Marinette.

On the other hand though, Adrien acts better in this ship. He’s more mature and less comical which really accentuates him from his CN self. And although LB still tries to dominate, it’s not as bad as when he’s CN (probably due to LB having major infatuation for him too).

Conclusion? Despite them being the closest to “canon” because of “mutual love” (complete opposite of MariChat), they are also the farthest from it to not hinder the progress of the other ships.

============================================================

Four Ships in Summary:

LadyNoir – Angst, Comedy, Action

Adrienette – Fluff, Fluff, FLUFF!

MariChat – Comedy, (For fandoms: Sin?), PLATONIC

Ladrien – Closest and furthest of Canon (yeah, the irony), few yet significant

None of these strong amazing boys actually needs protecting but is that gonna stop me from trying? Is it?? (the answer is no)

Anon said: Hi! If you haven’t already answered this, would you mind listing the tags/ships you aren’t comfortable with people tagging your art with?

Ohhhhhh what an interesting ask, I’ve been thinking about how to answer since I got it and?? I’m not sure, so let’s put it like this: generally, if the art is obviously meant as platonic I’d prefer it if you didn’t use the ship tag on it, but as a general rule I don’t actually mind people tagging ships anyway? I know how this site works so if I’m really uncomfortable with the idea of it being misinterpreted as romantic I’m just not gonna post anything with those characters in it from the start

That said, sometimes people tagging ships confuses me a lot??? For example the majority of people who’ve reblogged my latest bnha comic have tagged it with the bkdk tag and? There’s nothing romantic about it?? Bakugou is literally off to kill Deku why is that romantic we just don’t know, bkdk shippers seem to have an understanding of romance completely different from mine haha

Ah, also I’ve been having people tagging my bokuro and akaken arts with the ot4 tag, even if I rarely ever draw all of them in the same place. Please don’t do that. Like. Seriously.

As for the general tags, there’s a lot of tags I don’t understand, but from there to saying I’m uncomfortable with them is a bit of a huge step… the one thing that comes to mind is people trigger-tagging Bakugou’s mom. That’s. Hm. I happen to really like that woman and my drawings depict her in a positive light always, so if people could stop that it would be very nice? That’s about it tho~

On SebaCiel and other things

I am greatly surprised that nobody had written about this before. To be honest, I’m even more surprised at how some SebaCiel shippers simply take the blame when they are called pedophiles, rape apologists, and abuse supporters. So I thought it was time already to clarify some misconceptions that those antis have burned so strongly in their own minds.

For your "Send Me a Character" could you do Tenzo if no one has asked yet? I hate that you are sick! I hope you feel better soon, Captain. I'd make you chicken noodle soup and tell you sweet MadaKaka stories if you weren't so far away.

Aww thank you berry!  You know just what a girl needs to feel better lol!  Also, I keep switching between Yamato and Tenzou, because I can never decide on what to call him.  He wants to be called Yamato, but I personally like Tenzou better, but I want to respect this fictional character’s wishes, so I call him Yamato, but then the ask framed him as Tenzou so idk here i am, floating along.

He’s dumb.  Where’s Kakashi?  Why is Kakashi gone? I don’t care I want Kakashi bring him back bringhimbackbringhimbaaaaaack

    • My wonderous tree child, love of my life, apple of my eye, poor, precious baby who has been abadoned by his creator and forced to become a joke while he follows around the source of his trauma, you deserved better.  This world was not good enough for you.  Sweet angel, I want only soft and lovely things for you.  Also, boy is cut.  Have you seen those arms?  Did you watch the filler episode where he’s soaking in an undergound hotspring shirtless (during the arc where they’re shipping him out with Naruto to the Turtle Island in Lightening)?  DID YOU SEE THAT?  Because that was when I started thinking ol’cat eyes was attractive.

  • Idea for a story
    • Tenzou and Tobirama meet.  They bond over having the same face-plate, and being practical ninja who take safety seriously.  Alright, alright, a serious one.  Tenzou was born Senju Nawaki.  Dazou (being an utter bastard) totally fucking kidnapped him for experimentation, and switched him with another baby (who becomes the canon Nawaki.  I’m going to say Orochin wasn’t a total ass at this point and wouldn’t have experimented on Nawaki for Tsunade’s sake, so Dazou never told him the truth of the child’s lineage). That is why Tenzou has the Wood Release.  Not because Orochimaru’s experiments were successful, but because Tenzou had the ability (or latent ability) in the first place.  The experiments would have killed anyone else, but the Uzumaki longevity kept him alive.  The child who replaced him and is canonically known as Nawaki died because he was not an Uzumaki (like Tsunade is, by Mito).  It made canon Nawaki unable to withstand the same levels of trauma, which led to his death at a young age.  This gets uncovered after ROOT is brought to pieces, after the war, and Tsunade and Tenzou develop the sibling relationship they should have had from the start.  It’s about mutual healing, and while Tenzou isn’t a replacement for the boy Tsunade loved like a brother, he is a chance at having a family again.  He becomes Senju Yamato, and Tsunade is always teasing him to give her nieces and nephews.  Yamato blushes redder than a tomato every time, of course. “N-n-ne-nee-sama!  D-don’t say things like that!”  "Stop it with the ‘sama,’ otouto!  Call me neechan “bu-but Hokage-i mean-nee-sama, I can’t!  You’re the hokage!” and then Tsunade gives the hat over to Kakashi because she just wants to live a peaceful life with her new brother and also so Yamato will stop having excuses to address her as her ‘sama,’ but it’s a constant struggle.
  • Unpopular opinion
    • I don’t know how unpopular this is, but it’s the one I’ve got;  Yamato being forced to follow Orochimaru around isn’t funny.  Let me say that again for those of you in the back;

YAMATO BEING FORCED TO FOLLOW OROCHIMARU AROUND ISN’T FUNNY!

    • Look, I get it.  It’s a cartoon.  But the idea of having to trail the person who abused me by torturing me as a lab experiment so soon after I just finished being another madman’s lab experiment because of the shit the first guy did to me is so fucked up.  Can you imagine, having to face your abuser while recovering from another string of abuse?  I mean, he was a child, he was helpless.  Maybe becoming a ninja helped with that.  He got strong.  He can protect himself.  Never again will he be taken in by a psycho trying to use his DNA—OH WAIT HE FUCKING WAS!  He was hooked up to a crazy tree, had the life pretty much sucked out of him because of the fucking DNA Orochishitface put in him, was made to be helpless again, and now it’s cool for him to be spying on the single person responsible for everything bad that’s ever happened to him, and it’s supposed to be funny?  It’s cruel.  And yes, ok, he’s a fictional character.  I get it.  But you know what? It’s dumb storytelling.  You basically erased the character’s past for a gag.  There were a million other things Yamato could have been doing.  Have him working in the Hokage’s office protecting Kakashi.  Give him a Family and make him a Tree Dad (Shizune is single, there you go.  Let’s paste together a relationship for him.  He’s interacted with her more than Kiba has interacted with the chick they got to be his wife).  Fuck, maybe Yamato is too traumatised and so he opens an orphanage so that no children will have to go though what he did.  Maybe Yams goes on a journey to find himself, collecting street urchins as he goes.  Maybe he opens up a Flower Shop and is now Rivals with Ino because his flowers and plants are always better (she complains all the time over him ‘cheating’ and sends Sai out to sabotage him.  There are constant mini-wars between the Yamanakas and Tenzou.  He’s usually ahead, because any damage they cause to his store he can rebuild in a second, while they actually have to rebuild (or wait for Yamato to feel guilty enough to fix it for them—Sakura is always trying to convince him to leave it; anything to one up Ino).  Maybe Yams starts growing herbs and stuff for the hospital?  Maybe the story I mentioned in the last bit comes to pass.  I don’t know, but I just thought of those on the fly and they’re already better ideas than being forced into a “comedy” routine with fucking Oroshitfucker.
  • Favorite relationship
    • We don’t really get to see many of his relationships except with Kakashi, so that wins by default.  I do like that they both kind of saved each other—Kakashi saving Tenzou from ROOT was just as important as Tenzou saving Kakashi from himself.  Both of them were drowning, smothered by traumas and hurts and just shitty fucking lives, and then they rescued each other.  So it started off very balanced between the two of them, they were on even footing.  Of course, Tenzou—who had never really had a relationship up to that point—puts distance between them by giving Kakashi a position of power over him (even if it’s just by calling him senpai) and kind of ruins that.  You can’t really build a steady, healthy relationship when there’s an uneven power dynamic in place.  Kakashi is always trying to get Yamato to address him without the honourific, but poor Tenzou is just like but…but…you saved me senpai I love you *heart eyes* and Kakashi is just like why do I always attract the weird ones?  What’s kind of tragic, is that Tenzou’s gratefulness and admiration towards Kakashi is was makes him want to address Kakashi as his senpai, but it’s that show of adoration and respect that is keeping Kakashi at a distance.  In this way, Yamato is the obstacle keeping himself from what he wants.  Poor tree man :’(
  • Favorite headcanon
    • This is actually something @fineillsignup wrote (I’m pretty sure?  I hope so), but I love the idea of Yamato calling Kakashi ‘Hokage-senpai’ instead of ‘Hokage-sama.’  It’s cute and super Yamato and I love it.  It’s official, this is how Tenzou addresses Kakashi.  Fight me.

Here is the ask! Send in a character!  Up next is Gai, then Genma, Hidan and Adult!Obito!

Already done:  Madara, Kakashi, Shino

It’s done! I’ve read every single issue with Harley and Joker in it. Now, an article: Comics: Harley, Joker and abuse

Friend: T_T Everybody in internet says I’m sick because I ship JxHQ

me: Let me explain the mess : ) book by book >.<

what’s mainstream and continuity? click here

If you want to know what N52 is click here

Friend: Why is people always talking about Snyder’s Joker or Morrison’s, etc?

Me: DC made it sure that the sacred continuity of the mainstream was kept, each writer had to work based on what his predecessors wrote but writers had different interpretations of the character so the characterization was different.

So sometimes we have an absolutely violent Joker, sometimes He’s a smart guy who tries to seem dumb or a man so crazy that couldn’t avoid the police.

Why Am I explaining this? because you have to understand that Joker in the time Harley was introduced in comic world was extremely violent and sadist. He spent the half of his time killing his own men. He wasn’t the character we knew in the tv show. Comic world is more raw, crude and bloody. Of course Harley changes her personality many times it depends on who wrote it.

Harley was written like Joker’s girlfriend in the series, now if you’re not familiar with batman comics that’s the most logic development but otherwise you understand that was a bold move cause Joker existed during 50 years before someone gave him a girlfriend but more even, he didn’t have a brother, a father, sons or a sidekick, nothing at all* and today someway we have big pictures of him kissing a girl and people pay for them LOL.

Harley was a new phase for Joker as a character cause she gives to him humanity what is good or bad, good if you want a more complete character, bad if you’re trying to use the cruelest, the grosser and the most important batman’s enemy to be creepy.

Batman - Harley Quinn (august, 1999. by Paul Dini): The canon origin for Harley in the mainstream (Mad love is from tv/adventures continuity). They didn’t use the thing of abuse, no, they had an idea to keep it weird and dysfunctional: He tries to kill her and they had a twisted reason, It’s cause he loves her alike but different entirely to abuse. This was the strategy of the comics and was reflected everywhere

Comic Harley Quinn (2000-2004), comic Batman adventures (Tv continuity), comic batman, etc at least until 2007 BUT we have a couple of exceptions.

This picture by Guillen March (many batman comics) is a good brief of that tendency:

Fade, obviously. (Send me a Ship and I’ll Break Them DOWN) I’m not sure if you’ve done this before.

As if I wouldn’t have tagged you in that case^^

I’ve been waiting to do this and it’s like writing down a heap of mini Fade fan fictions and that’s shipper spirit ;-) It’ll get long!

PS: Took me hours to write this when I had planned to write Blood Curse chapter 3, an answer to your post and a review. But whatever, the things I do for Fade ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How did they they meet?

“You better not get me killed” - look at canon in Steel Scars.

Who developed romantic feelings first?

Shade (he stopped denying sooner than her)

Who is their biggest “shipper?”

I am. And you too @clarafarleybarrow

When did they have their first kiss and under what circumstances?

When Farley goes to find him at the end of Steel Scars and they crouch down together because they’re shocked about what happened to Mare at Queenstrial. They start to hold hands while Shade leans against her. They talk about what to do now and fall silent after a while yet the silence doesn’t feel awkward, not even in the turmoils of Rocasta. Finally, Farley turns to him and starts to speak. “We should,” she says, then stops herself. She doesn’t know what to say, actually, and she doesn’t know why. Looking at him is enough, especially with the way he returns her gaze. She stops thinking when she closes the last distance between him, reaching with her hand to his neck to pull him to her and kiss him. She draws her head back, after a not so short moment, but maintains her position otherwise. Shade blinks at her and she sees the smile in his eyes just before they start kissing again.

Discussion on Recent Post on PJ

AKA Answering Ask Time

Ah man sorry for just suddenly disappearing like that guys. Just I had to take a sudden break from tumblr. Anyway – I got several asks over the hours I was not on there… though I did turn it off at one point due to some hate being sent to me, which I will address below. I decided to go ahead and answer all of the asks that are surrounding the situation that happened and the events that happened due to it in this post. Any other questions that are specifically asking about something else (though mentioning a bit of what happened Monday) I’ll answer on their own and appropriately tag them, since I know a few of you were wondering about PJ a bit.

Anyway! On with the show! I hope that with this I can clear up a bit of things as well as give my thoughts on what you have to say about it! And I’ll be going in a random order with the asks… so bear with me! ^^

I really like your style of character analysis and the deep thought you put into your posts so I have to ask: Do you ship Shiro and Lance? Why or why not? What do you think of their relationship? I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on how their personalities interact, and some potential good points and bad points to their relationship going forward. Thank you and have a nice day!! :)

Alright so, I was initially gonna make this a short answer but the more I thought about my reply, the more it kind of spiraled into my thoughts on the characters personalities and relationships as well as some of my major grievances for how the fandom chooses to handle those aspects of the characters. So I’m sorry if this ask kind of explores other aspects of the series outside of this ship.

Tbh I dont actively ship Shance in any meaningful way. I mean I reblog the art and the like, but I struggle to really envision Shiro and Lance’s potential as a romantic couple in my own mind and therefore can’t really find a reason to ship it myself. But it’s a viable ship in it’s own right, and I can see why people might enjoy it since Lance and Shiro are usually well liked by most fans. And if I can ever really wrap my mind over how the two might act in a romantic situation with one another maaaaaybe I’ll ship it. But for now I’m just kinda meh on the subject.

However when it comes to my opinions on the two’s canon relationship well… lets just say it opens a whole can of worms on more than a few of my grievances with how the fandom chooses to intrepret the characters of Shiro, Lance, and, yes, Keith.

Before I dive into my exact issues, I feel like I should first tackle my problems with the way the fandom tends to treat the characters.

Let’s start with Lance.
