The LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that he’s the most boring average person in the world. It’s impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if she’s female she’s already SOMEthing, because she’s not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male.

You can see this all over but it’s weirdly prevalent in children’s entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, who’s a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster.

I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?

This is a gift for cupcake @sabomuii! She’s the person who got me into MysMe, so I thought this would be fitting. Yoosung is probably one of her favorite characters in the game and sunflowers are beautiful, so this came out!!! I never drew flowers before but I hope it looks okay. ;v;

Inspired by the return of Mikasas’s sudden headaches in chapter 83. She seems to get one every time she loses someone important to her…

I thought it was very significant that it returned this chapter.

In the second version of this image I decided to put in some panels and text from the manga for context in case there were people who didn’t pick up on it.

I have some other versions of this image here.

So, I’m apparently watching Ladybug instead of sewing the 50 plushies I have to get done.  Procrastination at it’s finest :D

Just a quick appreciation post for Adrien’s expressions toward Chloe when she’s not paying attention in the “Evillustrator (Le Dessinateur) episode when he chooses to guard her.  He probably still feels a sense of loyalty to her, but you can tell he’s regretting his decision.

(Is Chat Noir gonna have to smack a bitch?)

(Seriously considering his life choices.)

And my favorite part:

I want to see some serious character development with Chloe in season 2.  And more scenes like this between her and Chat.  Adrien has already seen glimpses of her insecurity in the way she deals with classmates, and I seriously doubt he’s been oblivious to her attitude for their entire friendship.  There is the argument that he had no one else and, therefore, latched onto Chloe as a friend.  However, I like the idea that he saw something great in her and decided to help her become a better person.  We got a peek at that something great when she was nice to Sabrina.  Please give me more Chloe/Chat Noir interaction where she realizes that he’s not just Ladybug’s “sidekick” (and never was).  I WANT HER TO EARN THAT BEE!!!

Until recently, I used to really hate Ginny. Like, I seriously was annoyed at her and considered her one of my least favorite characters in the story. But looking back at the story recently, I have since come to find I was being very biased. I feel bad now, because I clearly did not pay as much attention to her character as I thought. So I felt she was a Mary-Sue, when really, she had become a badass witch who went through terrifying times (Chamber of Secrets), at such a young age and came out stronger for it.

Why Azula is one of my favorite characters

I Iove Azula. Since she first appeared I admired her strength so much. She was so powerful, only one look and she made everyone shake with fear. And she was only a child. I loved her bitchy attitude, how she had no mercy, when she tricked people, I loved her evilness. And I know these are the reasons why many people don’t like her but in my case it just made me respect her.

But Azula had feelings too. “The Beach” is the episode that shows this the most. When she spoke about how her mother had hurt her or when she expressed she just wanted to feel like a normal teenager for a night. Even more important to me, she immediately apologised to Ty Lee after making her cry and admitted she was just jealous of her. Azula: the most prideful character of all, because she cared about Ty. This is the reason she started cracking towards the end. Her friends, the only people she felt she could trust betrayed her, leaving her alone.

Azula just loses her mind in the final episodes and that broke my heart (I couldn’t stop crying I stg). She was 14, and she had been expected to be the perfect child her whole life. To become as powerful and evil as her father and the next Firelord, with Zuko being the shame of family.

My point is: Azula was wicked, and i loved that side of her, but I also loved how she was shown to be human, capable of loving in her own way. And all the bad stuff she did was because she had been taught to be that way. Now, I’m not defeding her, because Zuko had been educated in the same way but chose the right path. I’m just saying that she had been raised in an eviroment where the only thing she knew was hate and destruction, so it doesn’t surprise she ended up the way she did. And in the end, she deserves as much love as any other character.

Dear Kishimoto

Quit fucking up Sakura’s character. Like fuck I hate Hinata at this rate you made me hate and destroyed my childhood anime hero, my favorite anime and now my favorite heroine. The excuse that Sakura would have been a bad women if she chose Naruto, NO IT WOULD HAVE MADE HER A STRONGER WOMAN. You are telling society that no matter how poisonous a man is to a woman it’s okay to be with him? No if a women doesn’t feel loved she should move on to someone who loves her. I don’t understand how someone can ship the canon ships, it ruined the characters and changed them completely, they a failures in their life. This isn’t Naruto this is, I have no idea what it is but is not Naruto. These aren’t the character I grew up with.
You said everyone will be satisfied with 2017 events of Naruto. I’m scared that you’ll make me hate Sakura, she embodies what it is to be a real girl she has her flaws and yes can be annoying but she’s real and relatable. Don’t make girls think that it’s okay to settle, please not in this generation. Please.

I just read an article about the live-action Mulan remake, and the director said that so far, there are no plans to include the musical numbers. She also described it as a "girly martial arts extravaganza" and that bothers me soooooo much. This is the first live-action princess remake that has poc main characters and it feels like being cheated. It's so rare for asians to be in musicals.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100%!!!

I mean Beauty and The Beast is the only live adaption film Disney has done so far that is a full out musical with the exception of The Jungle Book ft. like two songs in it. But Mulan is my all time favorite Disney movie, it was the epitome of my childhood. I think Mulan being a musical would be an incredible experience.

I think it is a shame that Asians do not get enough credit when it comes to art because I can think of so many talented people I know who are incredibly talented martial artists, dancers, singers, actors, artists, etc. I think Mulan could definitely showcase all of that if it was going to be a musical!!! I can just imagine how cool the choreography would be for I’ll Make a Man Out of You and I cannot believe we’re missing out on that!

And you’re right! It is rare for Asians to be in musicals. I think Lea Salonga has definitely helped paved way for Asians on Broadway (she was in Les Miserables! That’s a super white musical! She’s also the singing voice of Mulan too) + Phillipa Soo has also been killing it on Broadway with Great Comet, Hamilton, and Amelie under her belt. But in a mainstream setting, I think it’s still difficult to find a musical that has exclusively Asian roles like Allegiance, Miss Saigon, or The King and I (and believe it or not some productions still cast WHITE PEOPLE to play King Mongkut or even have an entire cast that’s white…).

Also I agree, I think the director Niki Caro could have described the film better. The full context of the quote is “But the budget and the location and the story is offering such scope to me for [an] incredible, muscular piece of girly martial arts extravaganza in China. And I can’t wait.” (Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Will Be a ‘Girly Martial Arts Extravaganza’). And I think calling it a “muscular  piece of a girly martial arts extravaganza in China” is so cringeworthy. Mulan defied the idea that women and men are not confined to their gender normative or traditional values. It’s clear Caro is trying imply that Mulan is masculine but also feminine but conveys it poorly. If it was spoken about a man, the quote wouldn’t say “muscular piece of manly martial arts extravaganza”, it would just say “martial arts extravaganza” because men are already inherently assumed to be muscular and masculine.

I can think of three ways Magnus having an opportunity to sit on the throne will go:

Theory one: Magnus hasn’t realized his feelings for Alex and he sits on the throne only for it to show him Alex.

Theory two: Magnus has realized his feelings for Alex and he turns down the opportunity to sit on the throne because he already knows what his heart desires.

Theory three: Magnus has realized his feelings for Alex but she’s been kidnapped or something of the like and Magnus sits on the throne in order to find her.

Theory two is my personal favorite but I feel like theory three would give more character development. I’m afraid of what the price would be if he sat on the throne though.

Sakura Haruno Aesthetic

I feel like the Naruto girls don’t get as much love (or character development) as they should. Sakura is one of my favorites, even if she didn’t start out that way. She has so much potential that got overlooked during the series. (And I may be kinda sorta really hoping @blackkatmagic will write a femslash with Sakura in it. ^^’

(And I swear as soon as my whole Naruto character aesthetic kick is over I’ll stop tagging you, Kat! I’ve gotta be one of the most annoying people ever! ^^’ )

BP Appreciation Week, Day One: Favorite Role

Okay, this is a bit of a cop out because technically this is three roles, but I couldn’t decide because all of these characters are special to me.

Doctor Who, Rose Tyler: My love of Rose is obviously no secret. She’s one I relate to on a very personal level – a normal girl, raised by a single mother, who feels like she’s never really accomplished anything. She’s made mistakes – and continues to make them – and she’s so human it’s almost painful. Look at this precious little ray of sunshine. She’s lovely in every single way.

Penny Dreadful, Brona Croft: Obligatory#shedeservedbetter hashtag here. Brona was so precious and so sad and so broken. She was Ethan’s innocence in a world that had suddenly turned mad, and she was wonderful. She deserved so much better than she got.

Penny Dreadful, Lily Frankenstein: Lily is the result of all of Brona’s sadness and pain, who also, of course, deserved better than she got. She was brilliant and ambitious, and probably got in a little over her head, but you gotta give her credit: her “kill all men” plan was still pretty great.

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about a Doctor Who/Stranger Things crossover for, like, months now (I mean. Eleven. And Eleven. My two favorite characters in existence. How could I NOT?). Just imagine it!

Elle is trapped in the upside down after what she did to the Demigorgon. Afraid and once again alone, she sobs quietly, asking for help that she know can’t come.

Somewhere in the universe, the Doctor (currently traveling alone) gets a message on his psychic paper. All it says is, “Help me.” He of course springs in to action, tracing where the cry for help came from, and is surprised to find that it’s from a small pocket universe.

He manages to fly the TARDIS in, and when he lands, he (for once) turns on the monitor instead of simply going outside to see what’s there. He sees a young girl, sitting alone against what appears to be a large tree. She’s got her knees pulled close to her chest and is sobbing rather heavily, this is evident only by her quivering body, as she makes no sound.
Then he runs out of the TARDIS doors to get the child. The TARDIS has warned him that the environment is toxic, but doesn’t care – the girl has already been here too long.

Elle looks up and sees a man running for her, but he doesn’t seem threatening. In fact, he looks worried. Worried about… her? She doesn’t move, or make him stop. She can tell he wants to help her.

When the man is in front of her, only perhaps a foot away now, he stops, and kneels down so that he’s at eye-level with her.
“Hello,” the Doctor says, with a small but kind smile, “I’m the Doctor,” the child flinches at the word. “I know you’re frightened, but it’s going to be okay. I’m here to help.”

Elle stares into his eyes for a few moments, then nods as though she’s decided to trust him. The Doctor’s smile grows a little now that he knows she’s not afraid of him. “What’s your name?” He asks gently. She stares at him again for a moment before answering in small voice, “Eleven.”
“Well, Eleven, we need to get you out of here. Will you let me help you?” She nods again and wraps her arms around the Doctor’s neck – they both know she’s too weak to walk.

Once they’re safely in the TARDIS he puts Eleven down on a small chair that the TARDIS has provided for her. The Doctor goes to the console and take them into the time vortex where he knows they’ll be safe. He then goes back over to the little girl, Eleven, and kneels in front of her again. Now that he gets a good look at her he can see what a mess she is. Her face is stained with tears and blood, there’s even dried blood that had come from her ears. He doesn’t ask what had happened though, he already has a pretty good guess.
Instead he asks, “Where is your home?” This time she doesn’t need to take any time to answer and says “Mike.” “Who’s Mike?” “Friend.” She smiles very slightly when she says the word, and the Doctor understands. “We’ll find him. I’ll get you home, I promise.” She nods, and then she does something he finds a bit odd. She places a small hand on his chest, feeling his hearts beating. Then she looks into his eyes again, seeing how old and how sad he is, and she says softly, “Eleven.” The Doctor smiles just slightly and nods.

The Doctor had got her home safely. She’d insisted that he meet her friends before he left, and they never forgot the strange man in the bow tie who brought Eleven home.

Years pass – for both of them, many for the Doctor, only a few for Elle. Something goes wrong; the bad people are back. She remembers the last time she was afraid and alone and who helped her. So she uses her powers to try and contact the man – the other Eleven.

And he comes. But he’s different this time. He’s not wearing a bow tie now, and his hair is grey. His face is different too, not just older, but different. However, when she looks into the man’s eyes she knows that it’s him.
Eleven smiles and puts a hand on the man’s chest, feeling the unmistakable vibration of two hearts beating, and says “Twelve.”

10 minute distraction - coping technique

my therapist taught me a new technique that i can use whenever i feel like raging towards others or myself.
she said that when her father passed away, she really didn’t want to break down at his funeral, so her husband (who is also a psychotherapist) told her to just think of snoopy and charlie brown having lollipops together, because she loves the peanuts characters. whenever she felt like crying, she’d take a few moments to put this visual in her mind to lift her spirits for a bit.

i really love music, and so she told me to pick a song, or make a playlist of a bunch of my favorite (happy) songs and to just take 10 minutes listen to it whenever i’m feeling like i might do something stupid.
it’s a great way to stop bad habits in their tracks (e.g self harming, yelling at people you love, destroying objects, or abusing substances)

think about what you love, whether that be a TV show/movie, a book, an artist, a band/song, or even an app/website and just think of it, watch it, read it, look at it, listen to it, or, if it’s an app/website, go on it for at least 10 minutes to give yourself time to cool off before you try approaching the situation again. (or just completely ignore the situation if that’s an option)

i hope you all found this useful, and you have a successful journey towards a happy, healthy life!

I got caught up on Gumball and hot damn I love this show.

Like, they did the “big dumb husband forgot our wedding anniversary!” thing but then it [SPOILERS] turns out he DIDN’T forget and Nicole had the calendar upside down. That’s like, an adorably clever spin. And Richard didn’t know why she was mad but would go to any length to make her feel better, not because he was scared of her being mad, but because he felt genuinely bad for upsetting his wife, even if he didn’t know what he did. This show, man. Love it.

Mid Season Finale Thoughts

Holy shit. That was intense.

I thought that Maggie was doing insanely well but she is still crying over Glenn. I would be too.

I knew about Spencer’s death because of the comics. Then his actor announced he was going to live tweet. Plus there’s build-up. Even my parents see it coming (they still need to watch).

I also knew about Olivia’s death because the spoiling dead shitheads got out and blabbed about it (I don’t follow them but their info has a pattern of getting out). However, I didn’t know the specifics of Rosita this episode. She actually calmed down and wasn’t going to shoot Negan until she saw him kill Spencer. Rosita wanted the blame and was willing to die. She probably thought that Eugene was going to die if she blabbed about it. Rosita is one of of my favorite characters and I love her even more now.

I feel like Carol will change her mind when she learns about Abe and Glenn’s deaths and just how ruthless Negan can be.

I sense some PTSD in Daryl. The way he clobbered Fat Joey mirrored Negan with Lucille. He also had the same face when he watched Glenn die. Jesus was concerned when he saw it.

Tara is another one of my favorite characters and I want to give her a shout out. She tried to take Olivia’s place when entertaining Negan and tried to lie that she was the bullet maker. I love the badass and caring in her.

I’m worried about Eugene. More so than Daryl because he isn’t as tough as him.

I vomited rainbows when Rick and Daryl hugged. It was a feel good moment after another sad episode.

I think that the mystery person is someone from Oceanside.
