most of us know how important representation is, but i feel like we don’t always realize how vital it is for white cishet people to see representation as well. like my white cishet 65 year old mom’s favorite show is brooklyn nine nine, and when she first began watching it she was so perplexed by ray holt. she had never really seen black gay characters in television before, and the very few times she has they were stereotypes, so she was just so interested by him bc “gay people can be like this?”

like obviously it would be great if she already knew lgbt+ people aren’t the tired stereotypes that society tries to portray us as, and it would be great if she was more educated that Yes black gay men exist and are common. but she didn’t know that, because she’s never really seen it. but just watching brooklyn nine nine has educated her so much!! she’s seeing a black gay man run a police squad, she’s seeing a large black man be one of the most gentle people ever, she’s seeing women of color empowering each other and totally kicking ass, she’s seeing a jewish man repeatedly talking about issues such as transphobia, homophobia, anti-semitism, racism, and she’s also seeing all these characters understand when it ISNT their place to talk about certain issues

so my mom sees stuff like this and thinks “oh i was so wrong about these groups” and then she recommends these types of shows to her other ignorant friends, and she also corrects people when they say bigoted things that enforce the toxic stereotypes she is now educated on. all from some proper representation on a half-hour tv show!! like representation doesn’t just help minorities, it helps the privileged people who have ingrained bigotry in them to see what minorities are really like and what they can be and it’s so important!! and then these privilaged people can move forward and use their privilege to try and help minorities. representation of minorities helps the privileged too, and helps society to evolve!! so can bigots stop saying that it only benefits minorities. even if it did only help minorities that wouldn’t be a bad thing, but that isn’t the case so?? stop??

SDCC 2017 Rebecca Sugar interview

Rewind and Pause interviewed Rebecca Sugar in this fifteen-minute interview. Here’s a sorta-transcript–not word for word, but basically what the questions are and how she answered, paraphrased.

Question: A lot of the show’s symbolism is inspired by Utena. Can you discuss that show’s influence?

Rebecca: When I was a teen, that show was an epiphany for me! It plays with the semiotics of gender and I was a bisexual teen relating to it in a way I’d never related to anything before. The show is beautiful and I love that she decides she wants to BE a prince after being saved by a prince. And it’s also funny. It’s so extreme that it’s funny, and that was a huge influence on me as well, that something could be so dramatic and so beautiful but also wacky. It’s so extreme that it’s powerful at the same time as being funny. I got to see the origins and see Guys and Dolls at the Takarazuka Theater when I visited Japan. Osamu Tezuka grew up in that town! You know, Princess Knight, which has everything to do with Utena. I got to see some of the roots there and it was a big influence. Amazing.

Question: Another influence, especially lately, you can draw comparisons between Steven’s miracles and Christ figures. Are you exploring this, and potentially modernizing that allegory, with different kinds of love?

Rebecca: We’re inspired by every voice that has ever spoken about peace. I think–I’ve been reading about Hillel the Elder and how he said “If I’m not for myself, then who will be for me?” The gentleness with which he approached everything is really inspiring to me. I think that I’m very influenced by my Jewish upbringing. I’m half Jewish and was raised Jewish. I’ve felt the feeling of belonging but not belonging. I’ve been moved by this incredible history and this wonderful community that I wanted to understand and be a part of. That’s all been a big influence on the show as well. It was all about growing up with my brother, and that was a big part of my life. There’s a lot of spiritualism in the show.

Question: I wanna ask you about the color symbolism? And I’d be remiss if I didn’t say thank you for showing our community on TV. About Steven: His Gem is pink, his shield is pink, his sword is pink, his shoes are pink! It subverts the tropes of a traditional male hero. Was that intentional?

Rebecca: Oh, it’s COMPLETELY intentional. Yeah, I think one of the things I wanted to do as I went into the show was address how intensely gendered shows for children are and dissolve that. That was my first goal. And I think it came in large part because as a little kid I always gravitated toward boys’ shows, and I felt extremely guilty about that. And I don’t think my child self should have had to feel bad, but I understood “this is not really for me.” So as we went into this, I wanted NO ONE to have to feel that. I wanted everyone who wanted to, to feel it was for them. Especially since it’s gender nonconforming as a show.

Question: Silly question: Peridot and Lapis are roommates. What do you think their biggest pet peeves are of each other? If they have any, I mean.

Rebecca: Gosh. I think Lapis is sort of both annoyed and comforted by Peridot’s infinite energy. I often thought of them like the sort of old cartoon idea of a small dog and a big sort of like doesn’t-really-care dog. With a small very very excited dog. I felt that that was a dynamic for them. So I think that that, like those characters, it’s annoying to Lapis but she doesn’t actually dislike it.

Question: Congrats on the Emmy nomination!

Rebecca: THANK YOU!

Question: I hope we get to see “It’s Over, Isn’t It?” and “Both of You” during the Emmys. How do you feel?

Rebecca: I’m so excited, and I’m so glad it’s that one. It was such a fun dream to make a musical episode. I always loved those, they’re always my favorite. I couldn’t wait to do ours. Everyone was firing on all cylinders for that episode. I got to do music with Jeff Liu and Ben Levin, and Aivi and Surasshu’s compositions for the finals were stunning, the backgrounds are incredible, the art is so beautiful, it’s Jeff Liu and Joe Johnston’s last board together, it was one of the last episodes I got to work on with Ian before he left to do his show, so it also has a special place in my heart, I remember seeing it come back and being in the edit bay watching it and my eyes were welling up because “this is it, this is everything I ever wanted.”

Question: Not to mention Deedee crushing it.

Rebecca: She’s amazing! And that was when she was doing Tommy! So we got her on a day she’d been doing shows all day, and she came and knocked that out.

Question: First take?

Rebecca: We did several, but all of those takes were amazing. I love writing songs for Deedee. And that one, it has some notes in it that I cannot hit. But I know Deedee can do it.

Question: Now when you write songs, you hear a lot of the demos you write on ukulele a lot, but you play other instruments. Do you find that you write differently depending on what instrument you’re writing for?

Rebecca: Yes! Oh, completely. I have my go-to ukulele chords. But I also like to write songs on the omnichord, which is like a synthetic harpsichord from the 80s. And it has a row of buttons, you hit a button and you get that chord. I can use it for experimentation for chords I might not have thought of. I got one off eBay, the OM-84, and it was a little buggy, it wouldn’t play right, would go out of tune, and I took it to get it looked at, and these incredibly corroded batteries fell out of it! With this cloud of red dust! So I can’t put batteries in it anymore. But I can plug it in and it still works.

Question: So for “Love Like You,” is it connected to any of the characters or any point of view, or was it more a one-off?

Rebecca: “Love Like You” is so unusual. It started as a point-of-view song for all Gems, and the thesis of the whole show, sort of toward Steven, and my own brother Steven, but because it was the credits, I wrote the song over three years in little pieces. I thought at the start that this is about an alien that’s looking at a human, who loves them, and the secret meaning of this is that they don’t have the capacity to feel this way. By the middle of it I was deep into the show and going through a real crisis of confidence, where I was like “why are people looking to me? It’s not right!” and these people were coming out of the woodwork to thank me for the show, people who had been able to speak to their families in these wonderful new ways, people who had become comfortable with themselves in these incredible ways that I had not been able to do! Where I was like “I’m so inspired by everyone! Why are they thanking me?” So the middle of the song I was sort of in that place. And about a year later, I realized the beginning was not what I had thought it was about at all. It’s not a secret meaning about an alien who doesn’t understand humans. It’s about the fact that I had always loved my brother and had these people who would love me unconditionally in my life, and because of my insecurity I had not been able to be there for them 100%, and I realized this was maybe one of the most human things I’d ever written, and I had written it by accident. So I got to conclude it. It was seriously written over 3 years.

Question: Recently we talked about how the show has been dramatic and full of conflict. It’s great but do you ever have concerns about taking the show–it’s a very positive show, so does the conflict have the potential to go too far, or do you like making it more challenging?

Rebecca: I’m excited to be more ambitious with the story, and the danger they’re experiencing also feels like a danger for us who are writing the show. Writing stories that are more ambitious and challenging. It feels necessary, because it’s about how love conquers all, but you can’t write that story without showing what comes up against that. I’m excited to explore the–you’re right, it’s scary to explore where hate comes from in a show about love. I want to–it’s a challenge to stay positive while exploring that. But that’s a challenge I experience in LIFE. And that’s a challenge we’re all experiencing right now. So it also feels like the time to explore that in myself and in the show.

When Mike saw Eleven (Spoilers but also my outlook upon it)

So many things were happening when El made her badass entrance back into the gangs life.

But being the heavy Mileven shipper (Mike and Eleven shipper) that I am, I was waiting for his reaction the most. The way that they produced his reaction to seeing her again was so so beautiful.

Like Mike was instantly at peace with himself maybe even the world, you could literally see the weight lift from his shoulders and how thankful he was to be in that room.

and then tHE SMIRK. LIKE HE WAS HIMSELF AGAIN WHEN HE SAW HER IN THE FLESH AGAIN. ITS LIKE HE BECAME “MIKE” AGAIN IN A SENSE.

but the amount of vulnerability was so key in Mike’s scenes this season.

And for eleven

She looked happy to see them all (except Max for obvious reasons) but I feel like she came back to her family, but Mike, Mike is her home. He cared for her before anyone else would and I feel like this was so essential and the amount of character development in this season was CRAZY.

But her expression moved mountains. Like she was all badass looking until she saw Mike and she became soft and emotional and that is how you knew (if you didn’t know already) that she was in love with Mike. They are home for each other.

the amount of peace in this scene was so wholesome okay!

It made me (and probably several others happy asf) I love Stranger Things but this was my favorite scene by far.

5 important shows/books/games that saved my 2016 - silent hill 3.
tu fui, ego eris

Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Final Rate: S
Cry-o-meter: 4/5

Positives

+First of all, holy shit
+The protagonists are extremely likable, well-written, and complex.
+I’ve never been more invested in a cast of characters
+The villains are also likable, well-written, and complex. I can’t believe this show threw the most irredeemable ruthless killer at me and then made me cry over him.
+A well paced, slow-burn story that starts deceptively lighthearted and then gets dark and violent and genuinely upsetting
+Stellar character development. Everyone gets a turn to be the antihero and I fucking love it.
+Actions have actual consequences and the show isn’t afraid to kill off characters
+Intense and creative fight scenes
+The Phantom Troupe arc was dope as all hell
+Kurapika is the accumulation of all of my least favorite tropes but it’s played completely straight and he’s my favorite
+The art gradually increases in quality. It starts off kinda mediocre but by the end of the show it’s great
+It progresses almost like an RPG. The characters start off level one, with not a whole lot of skills or punch, and by the end they’re level 100 or so. The main characters don’t start off powerful (with maybe a small exception to Killua).
+The characters train? They actually train to get better? This is such a little thing but you can actually watch their progress.
+That *iconic* shot when Killua goes full-electric mode for the first time
+It’s not cheesy! it’s not! It seems like the show that would be really cheesy with a lot of angry screaming but it’s not!
+No filler! Everything is plot relevant!

Negatives
-It’s been on hiatus for a while because the creator is dealing with back problems and people aren’t all that hopeful about it continuing
-I need more Kurapika! The last clip of him at the very end just left me wanting to see more of him. The next arc in the manga is actually focused on Kurapika and Leorio but it won’t be animated for a while…
-The Chimera Ant arc probably could have been cut down in length, and a lot of the character designs were goofy. It changed and became better, but still.
-The Alluka mini-arc didn’t really do it for me. She didn’t have any character depth, she came out of nowhere, and it didn’t make me feel those sweet sweet emotions the show usually provides
-Hisoka pops a boner for a 12 year old
-”sorry but you take second place to alluka lol” b i t ch after everything you’d been through together?
-Unfinished, for now.

Final Comments: Holy fuck I wasn’t expecting to like this show as much as I did. Easily joined my list of personal favorites. I honestly can’t even say anything but if you love that slow burn frog-in-a-frying-pan type of show then you’ll love it. The pacing is so good, I love everyone, honestly please give it a chance and don’t get turned off if the first few episodes aren’t your style.
*SPOILERS* Why do all my favorite characters die?

Can we talk about this? Today I was watching the latest episode of Teen Wolf and one of my favorites, Brett Talbot, dies.

I feel like Brett is such a sad but wonderful character. His parents died in a fire making him and his sister orphans. Then he was taken in my Satomi. He was an ass to Liam, especially when he was first introduced, but he still cared enough to make sure Liam was ok. He cares so much for his sister that he got a scholarship through lacrosse to Devenford, made them take her if they wanted him, just  so she could make friends at a new school. He’s smart, caring, protective and just so, ughhhh!

On a more personal level he is one of the few bisexual characters on TV and probably the only one on Teen Wolf. I really liked that they had him be bisexual not only because I myself am bisexual but because you typically see bisexuality more commonly in females than male which adds to him being a pretty great character.

Though he was only a minor support character that cocky little shit was able to make his mark on me and so many other fans. The reason why he died was to bring forth more drive for the pack and reveal more of this season (the final season ‘que the waterfall of tears’) plot. As a student in video production I say, development wise, that it was a good call but the emotional side is just screaming “WHY JEFF DAVIS?! WHY?”

My point is, I know why the writers did it. Hell, I’ve done that in the screen plays I’ve wrote for school but being on the other side is just sad.

But on the bright side we can still look at Cody Saintgnue (the actor of Brett)

endless list of favorite characters + Mary Stuart

“ I will let no one, not Elizabeth, not any usurper, take my country from me. Since I was a babe, I have been a Queen. Since a child, I have been alone on foreign soil. I know how to keep my life, my crown and I will. “

The more I think about this season...

the more I really wish Julie had taken this opportunity to replace Noora’s role this season with (girl) Chris.

Noora is one of my top favorite characters and I love her so much, but by giving Chris that role this season we would’ve been able to see so much more depth to Chris than her current stereotypical “fat” funny girl role. We could’ve heard about her relationship with Kasper and whether she’s moved on, how she may also feel like an “other” in their friend group because she’s not as vocal or involved, body positivity, etc.

She would’ve been so understanding and such a good listener with Sana, I truly believe that, and she could’ve been Sana’s ally in investigating these shady Pepsi Max girls.

I know she likes to party, but I feel like she’s being reduced to just another overweight funny party girl who contributes nothing more than comic relief (or silence when it comes to standing up for Sana), and we all know she’s capable of doing so much more than that. We also know that Noora would have had plenty of screen time regardless.

Hopefully, the rest of the season gives us a bit more character development for everyone, especially Chris. My fingers are crossed.

Fic Recs

For those who keep on asking about what I recommend, here are my favorite smuts! I’ll update this as I read more, but these are definitely the ones that make my insides twist and raise my brows- AKA my favorite ones. Keep in mind I totally love a lot of the other works by these writers but these are my absolute favorites. Enjoy the list!

Business by @btssmutgalore

This fic by Dee is my favorite work by her by far, the pure filth and cumplay being absolutely riveting. Dee does an outstanding job as always, and in this story featuring Jungkook and Taehyung, it’s no exception. Definitely something to recommend if you’re into pure filth, cumplay, and dirty talking. No romance involved. After all, it’s just business.

Unexpected by @noona-la-la-la

One of the first smut works I read on Tumblr, and it didn’t fail to impress me. The events are certainly unexpected, and it does play in with the fear some may have for fetishes or kinks they might be ashamed of, which I think this fic does a great job of portraying, especially in making Yoongi’s- and everyone else’s- personalities so flawed and real. It truly tests trust, and does an excelent job at diving deeper than pure filth. The angst is definitely something this fic does outstanding on.

Watch Me by @ellieljade

Not enough words can be used for her brilliance, but this fic most definitely had my eyebrows raised and my jaw dropping as I read this. Typically  Namjoon fics have him as excellent Daddy material, but seeing this new side to him was refreshing in so many possible ways. I was murmuring ‘oh shi’t repeatedly at this absolutely genius smut.

Ignored Warnings by @avveh

Definitely one of the sequels I’m most looking forward to by the queen of rough sex, and fellow name twin, she does a great job at showing how both parties’ get off on acts that others would be perhaps horrified by, and my brows were practically disappearing into my hairline as I read this. The aggressive and almost terrifying nature of Jungkook’s dominance, with the slight violence that would make some think of actual abuse, did a great job with pushing the boundries of the norms in smut, since usually they don’t cross this line, and Emily absolutely mastered it. It awakened something in me that I would’ve never found pleasureable or enticing until I read it, and I haven’t looked back since, admittedly. Easily something that makes my cheeks glow red simply thinking back to it.

Room for Dessert by @avveh

The rough sex queen is back at it again, and another one of her Jungkook fics completely enticed me in a way that was so simple, and yet utterly filthy at the same time. Easily one of my favorite series yet, and the amount of pure filth in this definitelyhas me awestruck. It’s hard trying to switch back to thinking of Jungkook in a light different than dominant, especially after reading this. She definitely earned her two fic spots on this list.

In Bloom by @tayegi

I’ll admit, I wasn’t really a big fan of werewolves or that concept. I thought it was overused and the typical Twilight shit. Until I read this. And let me tell you, my world flipped. Never before have I been so obsessed with wolf!au, but how she writes her archnemesis, Jungkook, (yeah, she hates Jungkook, but fuck she’s good at writing him) had me absolutely mindblown and transfixed. Lu, you’re doing amazing sweetie.

I Hate You, I Love You by @jungblue

This really made me love the best friend aus, and the angst is real. Jungkook screws up, but I like how human she makes the characters, and this is one of those rare fanfictions where I did feel a bit of emotion. An outstanding job done by Tay! Definitely one of my favorite works by her!

Melomaniac by @jungkxook

One of my favorite pieces from the Moonbin loving writer. I can appreciate a good bad boy cliche once in a while, and this one is definitely a great work that I remember her for. Cockiness might not be the best trait, but damn can it be sexy when pulled off the right way. Alyssa does a great job with this, and her works are truly beautiful.

House Rules by @jeonjagiya

How have I not included my favorite work by my girl Iris? Not only is this oneshot something I could picture my future marriage to be like (JK I’ll never find love) it is absolutely AMAZING! Don’t read if you like pot roast a lot. This fic does well in showing pent up frustration, the torture of being held out on, and the anticipation and teasing. Definitely my favorite work of hers, and it got me fucking crazy when I was in teh middle of a diner. Thanks a lot, Iris.

That’s all I have to recommend for now, but those are my top favorites so far!

“There’s a scene, late in the movie, with Kate McKinnon, that made me feel like I’ve never felt at a movie before. (No, it wasn’t the vibrating chair talking, this was real.) I should confess: Some of this is personal. My favorite character, in any big action-ensemble movie, is always the demolitions guy: the mad scientist, the weapons expert, the damage-dealer, the one who just wants to see stuff blow up. I say “demolitions guy” because he’s always a guy; they never cast the mad scientist or gun nut as a woman. But in this movie, he’s Kate McKinnon.

So she gets the scene these guys always get, in a movie like this. She has a wonderful new toy. The film slows down. She starts moving, and sure enough, she just starts unleashing raw havoc everywhere.

Something in my chest opened up. This is it, I realized. This is the thing I never got to see before. The scene where the demolitions guy is a girl. I was right: It actually does feel different when it’s a girl. This must be how guys feel every time they watch one of these movies. This is it, the version that’s for me, the scene I always wanted, and it’s here.

I don’t know what that feeling was, or how to describe it. But here’s the best way I can: For all the talk about “childhoods,” I got exactly 30 seconds in that movie where I felt like I was 8 years old again. Except that it was better than being 8 years old. It was like being 8 years old would have been, if the world had been fair.

I didn’t realize the political implications until I was out of the theater. I didn’t realize that this was also an openly queer actress, playing a more-or-less openly queer character (and we could do with more “more” and less “less,” Sony), that it might have hit other people in the audience even harder than it hit me, and for that reason. I didn’t think about anything, except that a woman was getting the same big slo-mo blowing-shit-up scene a million guys have gotten, and that scene is awesome. I’ve always loved that scene. Women aren’t treated as a big boundary-breaking historic symbol of progress and equality, in this movie. They’re treated like people.

And then you go out into the real world, where thousands of people are trying to hurt Leslie Jones on Twitter, and everyone hates Ghostbusters again. The same world you went into Ghostbusters to escape. But you can escape it, for a little while, in that theater. There’s a reason we need movies like these, after all.”

– Sady Doyle, These Times

I don’t get why Eragon doesn’t have a bigger fanbase.
Like the leader of the largest and most EPIC rebellion against Mr. Fucktwat Galbatorix is literally a woman of color and ISNT USED AS A ROMANTIC INTEREST FOR THE MAIN CHARACTER. OR ANY CHARACTER. I mean that whole thing with Murtagh happened but it didn’t really go anywhere and it wasn’t the main focus soo. Plus, we got this KICKASS FEMALE ELF NAMED ARYA WHO. KICKS. ASS. ERAGON TRIES TO GO AFTER THAT BOOTY BUT SHES LIKE NAAAAW SON and he still has those romantic feelings but HE RESPECTS THAT SHE DOESNT FEEL THE SAME SO HE PUSHES HIS DICK FEELINGS ASIDE. Another great example of kickass females is the litERAL MAIN CHARACTER well one of the two main characters SAPHIRA WHO IS A FUCKN DRAGON WHO IS SO SELF CONFIDENT AND KICKS. FUCKING. ASS. BECAUSE SHE IS A L I T E R A L D R A G O N AND ALSO THE LAST FEMALE DRAGON IN EXISTENCE. Then the motherfuckin queen of ELVES - elves, who are like 10 times stronger than humans and are immortal and SHE KICKS ASS AS QUEEN WITH A MOTHA FUCKIN ALBINO RAVEN. Then we got Bridget who ain’t having none of Roran’s shit. Katrina’s a bit of a damsel-type, but not to the point of total helplessness - she’s still rad af. And tbh, it’s okay to have a few damsel types - just look at our boy Eragon in the beginning of the series. Total damsel. Murtagh is also in serious need of rescuing. He’s like the Bucky in this series. And don’t even get me started on Orrin…. And let’s not forget the fact that one of the two original bad guys that got our main characters involved in everything is actually female. Like seriously - I had no idea that the Ra'zac weren’t both male until Brisingr. Also, the leader of Du Vrangr Gata - Trianna - is a kickass girl and a SORCERESS. And that kickass leader of the Varden actually becomes motherfucking QUEEN
ALSO that dumbfuck Eragon fucks up when using magic to bless a kid so that kid ends up being able to feel EVERYONE’S PAIN so she grows up real quick and IS FORCED TO FEEL EVERYONE’S DISCOMFORT BECAUSE SOMEBODY FUCKED UP but then it gets sorted out and she’s bitter af because after all that suffering of an ENTIRE WAR she kinda has a right to be a lil upset. But then she ends up helping out n stuff even tho she is LITERALLY a child. And I don’t even know what Angela is, but she’s like my favorite character aND SO FUKCIN RAD N KICKASS so honestly I think you should just read these books like right now because of all the KICKASS FEMALES but stay tf away from the movie.
Also, in case I didn’t mention,
Mother
Fucking
DRAGONS

Which is your favourite character in the hp world? And which do you like the least?

For many years my favorite character was Lily Evans (you see, she is the soul of HP stories for me). But now over the past few months my mind was so focused on Harry as an auror that I started to pay more attention to him and his personality. A love and careness for him have grown on me. I have never had too many feelings for the main character before (and I read the books a lot of times). I’ve heard people saying “the most boring person of HP books is actually Harry” and sometimes I even agreed to that (now I am very protective of him). This changed when I painted Harry as an old man (white beard and hair). I’ve started to think of his life and his experiences. How good Harry is with people he loves and how he suffered because of his unwanted fate - and how he became aware of what the things he had to do after so many struggles. He’s such an altruist character. Genuine and even naive sometimes. Such a cinnamon roll, but also a dorky, sassy, dark character, so fun to explore all these sides.
He’s what I think Lily Evans was (and a bit of each marauders), so that’s why I love drawing him and he’s became my favorite character. I’m so glad he survived and got married and had cute babies to hug him and give him the love he deserved through the whole series. He’s my favorite.

I hate Umbridge.

Different from the others

Okaaay, so, please, be kind to me, this is the first fanfic I ever post at tumblr, but my friend @porrabett showed me this beautiful gif from @gendry (thanks for letting me use it here, hon!) and I couldn’t not write this, it was like…there, begging to be written. Jon, Dany and Arya are my favorite characters, so I just had to! I have 3 more fics to post, not finished but almost there…anyway, I hope you like this.

Arya sees Dany staring at Jon from the stands of Winterfell patio, while he trains the youngest with the new dragonglass weapons, and they talk about Jon and Arya tries to decide what she thinks of Dany.

Daenerys could feel herself being observed, but over the course of her life, being watched was something she became used to. She was too mesmerized by Jon Snow’s movements with his sword, teaching his people how to defeat the Army of the Dead, to mind the eyes that would not leave her.

What she did not know is whom these eyes belong to: a certain she wolf.

Arya Stark was curious when she heard of Jon’s commitment to Daenerys Targaryen, she understood his needs for her army, but knowing his brown eyes too well, there was more to it – more than a political alliance, it was admiration, maybe even…love? The woman that found the way into the heart of her dearest brother intrigued the assassin.

She saw the platinum haired woman watching Jon, she would watch him like Arya remembered her mother watching her father from above: as a woman watched her beloved.

If this Daenerys had any bad intentions towards Jon, she was good at hiding, but Arya was good at finding lies at people’s faces, and she saw none in hers.

For now, that was good enough for her. She would not try inviting her for the game of faces any time soon.

“Was he always this – determined?” Daenerys heard Arya arrive at her side, while she saw Jon give the young boys and girls their dragon glass weapons, and lecture them about it with so much respect and patience, that only a true Eddard Stark relative and northern man would.

“Yes” Arya smiled to her side. “When I was younger, no one would ever let me use a sword, or a bow, or even mount a horse properly…I was supposed to be a Lady, not a Knight, like I wanted. I was meant to sow, enchant and smile.” Arya remembered bitterly. “Jon would see through all this crap, you know? He would sneak me out of my room, in the middle of the night, and take me out into the stables, when there were no one awake around and teach me how to mount a horse, wield a sword or even how to hold a bow properly.” Daenerys would not stop smiling at herself, this suited what she come to meet and love about Jon Snow.

While he did the same for these kids, that he had done to me years back, except snow was falling harder, winds were howling louder and winter was here.

Winter was here, but the Dragon Queen heart seemed warm towards Jon, that did not went by unnoticed by Arya.

“He doesn’t seem to share the common men opinion on where women belong” She comment and Arya smiled.

“No, he doesn’t. He never did. He always told me to pursue my knight dreams. He never did get the chance to fully teach me how to wield a sword, but he did give me my own” Arya took Needle out of its sheath, and proudly showed it to Dany.

“He gave it to you?” Dany was both proud and not surprised at all, she didn’t know Jon Snow long, but sounded like something he would have done for his little she-wolf sister, he would not break her dreams, he would encourage her to pursuit it. Who was this man?

“You like it? I called it ‘Needle’, Sansa had hers, to make her pretty dresses, I had mine to torn mine to pieces. Jon had it made for me. He gave it to me right before he left for The Wall, right before all hell broke loose for all of us.” Arya looked at her beautiful sword, remembering happier times. “Little did we know, the storm that we had coming our way” She sounded so sad, Daenerys had do look away, and stare at Arya Stark, and she could not help but feel sad for her.

She did not know her well, but from what Jon so sadly told her the other night at his chambers, his sister had seen their brother murdered and mocked alongside his direwolf, her mother killed, her father decapitated and had witnessed so much more…Dany could still feel the pain of her sweetest child falling across the sky, Viserion and not being able to help, not being able to save him. To know this young girl saw her mother, brother, father and so many others suffer the same destiny and could not do a thing? So much more pain than anyone in her age should be allowed to. Daenerys was a dragon, Arya was a wolf, but life hadn’t been kind for either of them, making them pay for their fathers choices. Dany wasn’t fond of the the Hand of the Usurper, but from what everyone says, he was quite an honorable man, and the world is running short of those. But he made choices, and his family paid for it, damned be the Lannisters for it.

Now meeting Arya and Jon, even the beautiful but distant and guarded Sansa…A man who had such children must have been a great man, for his children seen to have inherited bravery, endurance and something else Dany cannot name yet, but pleases her enough to make her feel welcomed in a foreign cold land such as Winterfell.

Maybe it had something to do with the white wolf sleeping next to her and Jon every night; maybe it had something to with the King in The North himself, snuggling into her side through the night, after the most meaningful and passionate love making Dany has ever had; or maybe it was just the air of this place, where you can’t help yourself but believing everything you were told growing up, where you cannot forget the White Walkers are coming and a place where Winter is coming is definitely not about the seasons and the Starks words seems more like an omen compared to mere house words.

“I am sorry for you lost, Lady Arya. For your father, mother and brothers” Dany spoke to her.

“I am no Lady, my Queen. But thank you” She looked down, and remember her painful training and what it taught her. “Valar morghulis”.

“All men must die” Dany answered her with a bitter smile “But we are not men”. Dany looked back to Jon.

“I’d like them not to, so perhaps…let’s stick to Valar dohaeris”. Arya could not help but be sure she liked Daenerys Targaryen without a doubt, now. Jon could marry this girl, she seemed to be just in love with him as he was with her.

Not to forget, the woman had two amazing dragons! That should be interesting…

(more to come?)

Veronica Lodge had called Sommer naïve on my occasions. Like when she came to Reggie Mantle’s defense about listing her name in the playbook, saying he was most likely forced to do so by the other football players. Veronica had only scoffed at that, Betty gently touching her shoulder as if to console Sommer.

If Veronica knew that Sommer was walking down the dimly lit streets on the Southside of Riverdale, she would be furiously dragging her back to the Harris’ residence by her hair.

The wind was howling through the small town, Sommer’s heels clicking on the floor. She wrapped her black coat tighter around her frame, damning herself that she thought wearing a velvet dress underneath was a good idea.

One week had passed since Sommer had seen Sweet Pea last. Whenever she relived his words, they felt like a knife plunging through her heart repeatedly. She doesn’t exactly remember how many times she called him and then hung up quickly because she was unsure of what to say. Should she apologize? For what? For making him feel something other than anger and rage.

Sweet Pea wasn’t one to talk about his feelings, he had never been. But Sommer didn’t need him to.

When he thought she wasn’t looking, she noticed the way his eyes would follow her every movement, the way he would smile affectionately at her when she talked and the sweet nothings he whispered into her ear when he thought she was already sleeping.

It was fear that held him back, that she knew. The fear of loving someone, the fear of being vulnerable and not being able to do anything about it. He was scared she was going to slip through his fingers one day, without him being able to pull her back.

Sommer looked around, checking her surroundings occasionally, making sure she wasn’t being followed as she knew how dangerous this side of town was at night. She checked her phone again, making sure her GPS was leading her in the right direction of the Whyte Wyrm as she had never been there.

Sweet Pea would always tell her that the bar was a local spot for the Southside Serpents to hang out at. Since he used to go there when they couldn’t meet up, this was the place she was most likely going to find him since she didn’t know where he lived.

She checked her attire and sighed. She really could have thought this through, she couldn’t look any more like a prestige Northside girl.

Sommer might as well have worn her River Vixen uniform to paint an even bigger target on her back. She put her hands in the small pockets of her coat and gripped her pepper spray tightly.

The Whyte Wyrm wasn’t like any other bar Sommer had been to. It wasn’t as fancy and exclusive like the one her uncle owned in New York.

As she pushed the red doors open, it reeked of cigarette smoke and a sense of danger hung in the air. As Sommer stood at the entrance, now regretting her decision she even came here, she wished the floor would swallow her in whole. She was sure she had the attention of most of the serpents on her and it wasn’t one she could particularly enjoy.

Sommer closed her eyes and took a deep breath, reminding herself who she was here for in the first place. She quickly scanned the room, looking for the tall, raven-haired serpent but he could nowhere be found.  She spotted a few serpents surrounding a pool table. She took a step forward, hoping Sweet Pea might be amongst them but she felt a hand grip her shoulders.

She froze, her breath quickening as she slowly turned around and looked into the brown eyes of a girl. She was short and had a slim complexion. Her long, wavy hair had streaks of pink in it and she wore a bandana on top of it. Her left eyebrow was furrowed, looking the girl up and down.  She sneered at her and crossed her arms over her chest.

“So, you’re the girl Pea has been going on about,” she declared amusingly, a small smile gracing her face as she bobbed her head. Sommer’s eyes widened in uncertainty.

“He told someone? I mean – it’s not a bad thing you know – but, I mean considering the circumstances.” Sommer let out a breathless laugh and tucked a lock of hair behind her ears, a habit she had, signaling she was nervous. The serpent rolled her eyes.

“Considering you’re from the Northside and he’s a serpent, you mean?

“I don’t care that he’s from the Southside. I don’t care that he’s in a gang. I care about him. And I need this boy to understand that no one walks away from me!” Sommer scowled and the pink-haired girl let out a soft laugh.

“I’m Toni. Toni Topaz,” she introduced herself. Sommer smiled. “Sommer Harris. But you probably know that already.”

“Just so you know, I texted your lover boy. Should be here any second. It wasn’t hard to figure out who you are. What exactly were you thinking when you came here, girl? You’re lucky no one else approached you, might not have ended as nicely.”

“To be completely honest with you, Toni. I didn’t have a plan B. Only a pepper spray which sounds ridiculous now that I say it out loud. But I just…needed to do something.”

Toni gave Sommer a comforting smile, which quickly turned into a grimace as she looked behind the Northsider.

Sommer turned around and saw Sweet Pea taking long strides towards her, his jaw clenched, and anger radiating from him. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. He quickly grabbed her by the arm, pulling her with him towards the door. Sommer took one last glance at the pink-haired serpent who waved at her and mouthed a Good Luck to her.

The cold air hit Sommer as Sweet Pea angrily pushed open the doors of the Whyte Wyrm.

Sommer looked up at Sweet Pea, taking in all of him. His messy, dark hair she loved running her fingers through. His plump lips she had missed so dearly and his broad shoulders she would cling on to for dear life.

He looked furious. His brown eyes were narrowed, his muscles tense under his leather jacket and the veins throbbing in his neck.

“What the hell are you doing here, Sommer?” he spat, a scowl on his face. Sommer balled her small fists and took a deep breath as her expression hardened.

“What I’m doing here? What I’m doing here!?” she screeched, her face flushed. “I’m here for you, you cretin. You can’t just expect me to forget about you and move on!”

“Do you know how dangerous and stupid it was of you coming here from all places? Wearing…that! You’re lucky Topaz recognized you and texted me!”

His loud voice boomed through the air and the girl took a step back, wincing at him. His eyes softened at her movement, clearing his throat and opening his mouth to say something.

“I know, okay! This was probably the most stupid and dumbest thing I could have done. But I knew you wouldn’t answer any of my calls and I didn’t know where you lived so this was my best shot. Also, I’m wearing custom-made Louboutins and a Vera Wang coat, thank you very much. I was supposed to go to Nick St. Clair’s party but he’s not worthy of my time.”

Who the hell is Nick St. Clair!?” His shoulders tensed. He couldn’t bear the thought of Sommer getting close to another boy. Sommer rose her eyebrows challengingly, a twinkle in her eyes as she put her hands on her hips, looking up at his tall frame.

“None of your business. Anyways, I’m not here to talk about him. I’m here to ask you something.” Sweet Pea ran his fingers through his hair, seemingly annoyed and wanting Sommer to leave.

“What are you afraid of?” His brows furrowed, looking at her in confusion.

“Is it commitment?” she pushed. He stiffened, and realization dawned on his face as his head lowered, not daring to look Sommer in the eyes. His expression dulled, and he stayed quiet for a few seconds, contemplating on what to say. The silence seemed deafening to both teenagers.

“You should go. I’ll wait for you until you call someone to pick you up.”

He pressed his lips together, though, not being able to hide the crack in his voice and the gloomy look in his eyes as he looked up again.

She inched forward, slowly draping her arms around his neck to hold him in place, hoping he wasn’t going to turn away from her. She looked up at him, eyes gentle and caring.

“I’m not going anywhere, I think you should know that by now,” she said, her voice low. His breaths quickened at the proximity. He had felt lonely for the past few days, yearning to touch her, to hold her close.

He cleared this throat. “I never meant to hurt you,” he began, voice shaking as he was unsure how to put his feelings into simple words. “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, Sommer,” he admits, pulling her small frame closer to him by her waist. “I have never felt like this before with any other girl,” he explained, shutting his eyes.

“I’m scared one day you’ll see what I see every day when I look at you. That… you’re simply too good for me, princess.” For the first time in his life, Sweet Pea had laid out his feelings openly, leaving him utterly vulnerable and Sommer stunned and unable to move.

His face twisted. “I can’t afford to lose you,” he added with a mere whisper. Her mouth turned into a smile, her eyes sparkling at his confession.

“Listen here, Sweet Pea. You’re stuck with me now, okay? You have been since the very first day. Don’t ever think for one second that you’re too good for me. Because you’re not. You’re everything I could have asked for,” she said, looking him deeply in his eyes, hoping she would remove every trace of doubt he had in himself.

“If you ride, I’m riding too,” she added, a small smile tugging at her lips.

“You truly are a ride or die, aren’t your Harris. Coming here to the Southside, all by yourself like the badass you are.” He gave her a lopsided grin as he put his calloused hands on either side of her soft face to caress her rosy cheeks. Her face lit up at his affectionate way, enjoying every second of it.

“Don’t ever put yourself in danger for me, got it, baby?” he whispered huskily, his voice laced with concern. He looked at her lips and then into her eyes again.

“I missed this.” She sighed contentedly, causing Sweet Pea to chuckle. He leaned into her, placing a gentle, slow kiss on her lips. Soft and warm, sweet, with a subtle taste of peppermint. It felt like the first time all over again, butterflies erupting in both of their stomachs. Sommer pulled away and leaned her head against his chest as he buried his face into her soft hair, as the smell of pine and lavender mixed.

“Let’s get out of here.”
