Positives

+First of all, holy shit
+The protagonists are extremely likable, well-written, and complex.
+I’ve never been more invested in a cast of characters
+The villains are also likable, well-written, and complex. I can’t believe this show threw the most irredeemable ruthless killer at me and then made me cry over him.
+A well paced, slow-burn story that starts deceptively lighthearted and then gets dark and violent and genuinely upsetting
+Stellar character development. Everyone gets a turn to be the antihero and I fucking love it.
+Actions have actual consequences and the show isn’t afraid to kill off characters
+Intense and creative fight scenes
+The Phantom Troupe arc was dope as all hell
+Kurapika is the accumulation of all of my least favorite tropes but it’s played completely straight and he’s my favorite
+The art gradually increases in quality. It starts off kinda mediocre but by the end of the show it’s great
+It progresses almost like an RPG. The characters start off level one, with not a whole lot of skills or punch, and by the end they’re level 100 or so. The main characters don’t start off powerful (with maybe a small exception to Killua).
+The characters train? They actually train to get better? This is such a little thing but you can actually watch their progress.
+That *iconic* shot when Killua goes full-electric mode for the first time
+It’s not cheesy! it’s not! It seems like the show that would be really cheesy with a lot of angry screaming but it’s not!
+No filler! Everything is plot relevant!

Negatives
-It’s been on hiatus for a while because the creator is dealing with back problems and people aren’t all that hopeful about it continuing
-I need more Kurapika! The last clip of him at the very end just left me wanting to see more of him. The next arc in the manga is actually focused on Kurapika and Leorio but it won’t be animated for a while…
-The Chimera Ant arc probably could have been cut down in length, and a lot of the character designs were goofy. It changed and became better, but still.
-The Alluka mini-arc didn’t really do it for me. She didn’t have any character depth, she came out of nowhere, and it didn’t make me feel those sweet sweet emotions the show usually provides
-Hisoka pops a boner for a 12 year old
-”sorry but you take second place to alluka lol” b i t ch after everything you’d been through together?
-Unfinished, for now.

Final Comments: Holy fuck I wasn’t expecting to like this show as much as I did. Easily joined my list of personal favorites. I honestly can’t even say anything but if you love that slow burn frog-in-a-frying-pan type of show then you’ll love it. The pacing is so good, I love everyone, honestly please give it a chance and don’t get turned off if the first few episodes aren’t your style.
The more I think about this season...

the more I really wish Julie had taken this opportunity to replace Noora’s role this season with (girl) Chris.

Noora is one of my top favorite characters and I love her so much, but by giving Chris that role this season we would’ve been able to see so much more depth to Chris than her current stereotypical “fat” funny girl role. We could’ve heard about her relationship with Kasper and whether she’s moved on, how she may also feel like an “other” in their friend group because she’s not as vocal or involved, body positivity, etc.

She would’ve been so understanding and such a good listener with Sana, I truly believe that, and she could’ve been Sana’s ally in investigating these shady Pepsi Max girls.

I know she likes to party, but I feel like she’s being reduced to just another overweight funny party girl who contributes nothing more than comic relief (or silence when it comes to standing up for Sana), and we all know she’s capable of doing so much more than that. We also know that Noora would have had plenty of screen time regardless.

Hopefully, the rest of the season gives us a bit more character development for everyone, especially Chris. My fingers are crossed.

rewatching s1 for like the 100th time--at what point does all the brilliant animal sight gag stuff (eg the croc wearing crocs) get added? is it like, we need to have a croc wearing crocs, where can we fit this in? or do you start out by needing someone to guard the food and say let's do a crocodile--hey, he should wear crocs? or some kind of total afterthought, or something else entirely? thanks. love the show, my favorite of all time.

Hello! I am going to answer your question, and then I am going to talk a little bit about GENDER IN COMEDY, because this is my tumblr and I can talk about whatever I want!

The vast vast vast majority of the animal jokes on BoJack Horseman (specifically the visual gags) come from our brilliant supervising director Mike Hollingsworth (stufffedanimals on tumblr) and his team. Occasionally, we’ll write a joke like that into the script but I can promise you that your top ten favorite animal gags of the season came from the art and animation side of the show, not the writers room. Usually it happens more the second way you described— to take a couple examples from season 2, “Okay, we need to fill this hospital waiting room, what kind of animals would be in here?” or “Okay, we need some extras for this studio backlot, what would they be wearing?”

I don’t know for sure, but I would guess that the croc wearing crocs came from our head designer lisahanawalt. Lisa is in charge of all the character designs, so most of the clothing you see on the show comes straight from her brain. (One of the many things I love about working with Lisa is that T-Shirts With Dumb Things Written On Them sits squarely in the center of our Venn diagram of interests.)

NOW, it struck me that you referred to the craft services crocodile as a “he” in your question. The character, voiced by kulap Vilaysack, is a woman.

It’s possible that that was just a typo on your part, but I’m going to assume that it wasn’t because it helps me pivot into something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the last year, which is the tendency for comedy writers, and audiences, and writers, and audiences (because it’s a cycle) to view comedy characters as inherently male, unless there is something specifically female about them. (I would guess this is mostly a problem for male comedy writers and audiences, but not exclusively.)

Here’s an example from my own life: In one of the episodes from the first season (I think it’s 109), our storyboard artists drew a gag where a big droopy dog is standing on a street corner next to a businessman and the wind from a passing car blows the dog’s tongue and slobber onto the man’s face. When Lisa designed the characters she made both the dog and the businessperson women.

My first gut reaction to the designs was, “This feels weird.” I said to Lisa, “I feel like these characters should be guys.” She said, “Why?” I thought about it for a little bit, realized I didn’t have a good reason, and went back to her and said, “You’re right, let’s make them ladies.”

I am embarrassed to admit this conversation has happened between Lisa and me multiple times, about multiple characters.

The thinking comes from a place that the cleanest version of a joke has as few pieces as possible. For the dog joke, you have the thing where the tongue slobbers all over the businessperson, but if you also have a thing where both of them ladies, then that’s an additional thing and it muddies up the joke. The audience will think, “Why are those characters female? Is that part of the joke?” The underlying assumption there is that the default mode for any character is male, so to make the characters female is an additional detail on top of that. In case I’m not being a hundred percent clear, this thinking is stupid and wrong and self-perpetuating unless you actively work against it, and I’m proud to say I mostly don’t think this way anymore. Sometimes I still do, because this kind of stuff is baked into us by years of consuming media, but usually I’m able (with some help) to take a step back and not think this way, and one of the things I love about working with Lisa is she challenges these instincts in me.

I feel like I can confidently say that this isn’t just a me problem though— this kind of thing is everywhere. The LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that he’s the most boring average person in the world. It’s impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if she’s female she’s already SOMEthing, because she’s not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male.

You can see this all over but it’s weirdly prevalent in children’s entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, who’s a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster.

I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?

Hi, Cassie! 1) Thank you x 1000 for sharing your stories with us! Your books helped me through the worst time of my life, & I'm more grateful than I could ever explain. Truly. 2) I freaking love Diana as a character! She's fascinating! Could you give us any more info on her? You mentioned her secret having to do with her brother & Thailand. Is her brother really dead? Is the warlock she visits somehow connected/related to her brother? Is the person she's visiting really a warlock? Thanks! ❤️

Diana is one of my absolute favorite characters and she has, I think, an interesting backstory for a lot of reasons. She will give her backstory in Lord of Shadows and I feel like I should leave it to her to do that in her own way. But I promise we spend some quality time with her, and you’ll find out a lot about her and the story of her family, and her friendship with Caterina (who she is often visiting.)

Okay??? But??? Beauty and the Beast???

I just got done watching Beauty and the Beast, the new remake, with @icarus-will-rise and… wow… I think there were times I cut off the circulation in his hand I loved it so much

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?
As usual, spoilers. This will be tagged as such tho.

• THE. CHOREOGRAPHY. AT. THE. BEGINNING. As a dancer, this was what made me instantly love the movie, like IT’S HISTORICALLY ACCURATE AND BEAUTIFUL AND??? WHY??? I LOVE IT SO MUCH
• C O S T U M I N G. I especially loved at the end that some of the servants still had face paint on their faces, like “oh yeah, that’s still there, it’s not like they’ve magically had their human faces cleaned while they’re not human or anything”
• speaking of the end, “Turn back into a clock. TURN BACK INTO A CLOCK.”
• and when the piano turned back he had no teeth? I approve
• also speaking of the end, HOT DAMN, Dan Stevens’ growl when Emma Watson asks him to grow a beard… like… damn… even @icarus-will-rise agrees that was hawt
• THE TRANSITIONS FROM THE HUMANIZED OBJECTS INTO NORMAL OBJECTS MADE ME CRY. Cogsworth not being able to talk, Mrs. Potts’ face disappearing, Chip’s dish shattering (I GOT SO SCARED), Lumiere and Plumette, the dog with his legs up, just, AH
• Okay, unpopular opinion here, I didn’t love the songs all THAT much. The originals are better. Emma and Dan definitely did a great job recreating the songs and all, but I think we can all agree the original “Beauty and the Beast” by Angela Lansbury smashes the new one to pieces, right?
• However, on that note, the new songs were pretty good and fit right into the soundtrack in everything from background music to lyrics. Evermore was good, but the one in the movie was def better than the credits one, I mean, come ON, guys.
• Okay, back to the movie–
• LeFou.
• LEFOU.
• L E F O U.
• Props to the casting director for ALL of his/her choices (Emma Watson could not have made a better Belle if she spent DECADES preparing for this role), but OH MY GOD JOSH GAD AS LEFOU.
• I don’t know WHO saw Olaf in Frozen and went, “This snowman would make a great gay sidekick for Gaston”, but whoever did, I love them.
• Speaking of LeFou, he went through some GREAT character development. From being completely obsessed with Gaston at the beginning (telling the Bimbettes they didn’t have a chance, talking to an imaginary Gaston in the mirror, calming Gaston down with thoughts of the war <which was HILARIOUS btw>, winking during “Gaston”) to actually having a backbone after they tie Maurice up in the woods (you can see him begin to shift his alignment, and lose his love for Gaston, there) to finally being like “yeah, screw this, Gaston wouldn’t save me from a falling talking piano with key teeth missiles, I'mma help the talking teapot spraying my fellow villagers instead”. I LOVED LeFou.
• You know who else loved LeFou? THE DRAG QUEEN. I know he’s either Tom, Dick, or Stanley, and @icarus-will-rise and I think it would be pretty ironic if he was Dick. I’ll have to check when it comes out on DVD since I wasn’t really paying attention, and by GOD I loved that little hint that they ended up together during the dance at the end.
• Anyway, back to the plot
• Those wolves were TERRIFYING
• Also, I don’t know about you guys, but instantly when I saw the beggar lady I was like “she’s gonna be important”. It was when she rescued Maurice I knew she was the enchantress in disguise, don’t ask me how, I just knew. They wouldn’t put a character in there randomly unless she was essential to the storyline, so I guess that’s why I guessed that.
• …did I mention LeFou was by far my favorite?
• But Emma Watson came in as a close second. By GOD, she was a great Belle. Her reaction to that library was tbh exactly how I would’ve reacted.
• Like I said, casting was spot-on amazing.
• You could FEEL the angst radiating off of Beast.
• Maurice was great, not as kooky as the original but I like him better as a sad artist.
• ^By the way, Belle’s parents’ backstory had me in tears. The plague representation was so accurate and answered SO many questions of mine.
• Also, Gaston was really good
• He actually tried to woo Belle a little instead of being like “I’m so great, you should totally marry me just for my looks and charm and hunting skills and my luxurious hair”
• He gave her flowers, sorta kinda pretended to be interested in her books, and seemed genuinely interested in saving her when the townsfolk were being mean so at the beginning I was sorta like “gee, why’s Belle being so rude and shit”, which was the only reason I didn’t like the change in Gaston’s behavior
• Then he started being a dick to her dad and I was like “whoops never mind”
• Umm,,, the fight against the villagers was really great?? Mrs. Potts seeing her husband (who was the citizen with the most sense, let’s be honest here) and falling from the chandelier, the boiling tea, THE DRAG QUEENS, Chip being a badass smol, Lumiere’s fireworks display, Plumette dusting people’s faces and the piano being heroic by trying to cover the door? It was A+
• Also “GRANDMOTHER?!?!?1?????!!??!!”
• Le Fou… the gay is strong with this one…
• Basically, I loved Beauty and the Beast’s live action remake, 10/10 would watch again.

• My only problem is her dress, really. My only GIANT problem, that is.
• They didn’t include the dog in “Beauty and the Beast” (the song), but fine, I’ll forgive that
• My major problem is that dress
• Okay, fine, it’s got the appliqués, but WHERE IS THE NECKLINE
• WHERE ARE THE CORRECT RUFFLES NOT THIS RUFFLE SHIT YOU GIVE US DISNEY
• We demand the truth
• (Side note: what is it with Emma Watson’s dresses being inaccurate in movies because this is now the second one???)

So, I’m apparently watching Ladybug instead of sewing the 50 plushies I have to get done.  Procrastination at it’s finest :D

Just a quick appreciation post for Adrien’s expressions toward Chloe when she’s not paying attention in the “Evillustrator (Le Dessinateur) episode when he chooses to guard her.  He probably still feels a sense of loyalty to her, but you can tell he’s regretting his decision.

(Is Chat Noir gonna have to smack a bitch?)

(Seriously considering his life choices.)

And my favorite part:

I want to see some serious character development with Chloe in season 2.  And more scenes like this between her and Chat.  Adrien has already seen glimpses of her insecurity in the way she deals with classmates, and I seriously doubt he’s been oblivious to her attitude for their entire friendship.  There is the argument that he had no one else and, therefore, latched onto Chloe as a friend.  However, I like the idea that he saw something great in her and decided to help her become a better person.  We got a peek at that something great when she was nice to Sabrina.  Please give me more Chloe/Chat Noir interaction where she realizes that he’s not just Ladybug’s “sidekick” (and never was).  I WANT HER TO EARN THAT BEE!!!

I’m writing this because I’m heartbroken and I think writing out my feelings will be cathartic. We have one week left with Emma Swan. I can say without any hesitation Emma Swan became my favorite character of all time from the very second she walked on screen in the pilot. I have never felt more connected to a show than I have with Once Upon A Time. I think most people can pinpoint a specific show they connected deeply to and will always love. Once Upon A Time is that show for me.

Jennifer Morrison’s announcement seemed like a nail in the coffin to me. I poured so much into gathering news for this show, reporting on it, pouring my love into it. Now here we are, at the end. Whether the show continues into a season 7 or not, it will be vastly different. I’ve said it over and over, but It’s finally hit me just what that means. It feels real now. I’ve shed lots of real tears this morning. I think Kelly described it best when she said that last night we were celebrating a wedding and this week will feel like a funeral.

Regardless of how sad I am, I can’t help but reflect on what this show has done for me. It brought me my best friends who I would never have met had it not been for this show. We have an unending bond now that extends past the borders of this show. It brought me confidence when I created this blog, had fun working on it, and connected with so many other fans of the show. It actually got me to Comic Con last year which I never would have dreamed of attending! It made me happy every single Sunday night at 8pm. It provided me with countless happy encounters, headcanons, fics, gifs, videos, and discussions with so many beautiful people. For all of that, I am grateful.

As we bid Jennifer Morrison farewell, I mourn for the loss of Emma Swan, but smile for her existence. I am so grateful for Jen and all she poured into this favorite character of mine. Wherever Once Upon A Time goes from here, I am forever thankful for all it’s brought to so many people. A Happy Beginning now is ours. ♥

Season 4

First I’m going to start by saying that I agree that this season hasn’t been perfect. Mostly due to plots being conveniently resolved or plots dropped out of nowhere. I, too, would’ve liked to see more conversation. Especially amongst the girls.

I also understand why this season felt chaotic. Because Sana’s life doesn’t just revolve around being in a relationship with a boy, or coming out. She’s affected by her beliefs and balancing them with a social, family and love life. Focusing on just falling love with a guy, is easier. All the focus is on one topic. Sana’s life is chaotic, because of her need to feel like she fits in while also being a “good Muslim”.

This is also the final season, so, of course they were going to give who was the most popular character in Norway, at some point, some closure and some screen time (unfortunately).

Despite all of this, this season hasn’t been trash.
Anyone calling it so, is just being petty. It has not been excellent, but it has been good nonetheless.

Personally, this has been my second favorite season, aside from season 1. I connected more to Sana than I have to any other character. Perhaps that’s why I’ve loved it so much.

A lot of Muslim friends have complained about the lack of proper representation. I’m not going to give an opinion on that, because it’s not my place. But, from an atheist’s perspective, I have learned A LOT about your religion. Not only that, but it’s been shown in a truly positive light.
A lot of people have said that Islam has been portrayed as an obstacle that makes Sana unhappy. At least on my end, that isn’t true. To me it wasn’t her religion what made her unhappy; but the constant need to have to prove that she’s a normal, caring, loving, good human being, just because of what she wears or who she believes in. That’s not her religion or her fault. A lot of her unhappiness this season stems from a combination of her own flaws and her previous experiences.

The main reason I have loved this season so much, is that, without having the luxury of being able to show Sana in an actual relationship, showing her laying in bed, sleeping with Yousef or making out with him, Julie has created the most epic love story of all four seasons.

Because their connection is so electric and strong, you know it’s something otherworldly. It’s not primarily based on physical attraction but in an intellectual one. You know they are meant to be and you know, despite there being obstacles that have been there for the other couples, that they are each other’s “one”.

The tragedy of knowing that, for them to be together, it would take Sana to sacrifice the most important part of herself, is what makes their love for each other that much more beautiful and meaningful.

I’m privileged to have watched such beautiful scenes that have shaken me to the core, without being intentionally manipulative.

So yeah, fuck the haters. I love this season, it will be one of my favorites, always and Skam will always be one of my top favorite TV shows ever.

Six Times Voltage Inc Tugged at my Heartstrings

I’ve been playing Voltage games for about four years now, and I have to say, there were moments in certain routes that made me Feel Things™. Generally, Voltage games aren’t really known for being cynical or overly emotional. Heck, their games, while having some mature content, mostly have an optimistic feel to them. However, there were some moments in particular that stood out to me—those scenes were written powerfully enough to shake me to the core.

I have to admit, it was difficult for me to select a few moments from hundreds of routes, but I tried my best to narrow it down as much as I could.

Disclaimer:

  • I limited it to one character per game to avoid repetition.
  • I haven’t played every Voltage game (or route for that matter). The moments I’ve chosen only come from the games I’ve played.
  • I didn’t include SLBP because I only started getting into it recently (plus I don’t know too much about the other lords to make solid conclusions about them lmao).
  • This is all my personal opinion, so that means you probably won’t share the same views as I do, which is cool (I’d actually appreciate it if you told me what your favorite moments were :D).

Anyhow, let’s begin! (long post below):

Supergirl's Alex Danvers is the Original Character Andrew Kreisberg is Most Proud Of

It might be pretty difficult to out-charm John Diggle, but as far as Arrow and Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg is concerned, that’s exactly what Chyler Leigh’s Alex Danvers has done.

Saying that his previous favorite original character – one who didn’t appear in the comics, not one who was merely drastically changed like Felicity Smoak or Maggie Sawyer – was John Diggle, but that Alex has managed to unseat Oliver’s right-hand man.

“I had previously been most proud of Dig. Now, it’s definitely Alex,” Kreisberg told ComicBook.com. “I think that we’re just the lucky guys and girls who get to tell this leg of the characters’ journeys. You sort of just hope that you can add to it and add to the collective story that is told over so many decades. The idea, like with Green Arrow, that John Diggle has become part of his universe. Now Diggle is in the comic books not written by us. People have just embraced that character.”

And he expects that to happen with Alex, too, considering how much the audience has warmed to her.

“And that future generations of Green Arrow storytellers might have John Diggle as part of his world is just so cool to us,” Kreisberg added. “Similarly, with Alex, that Supergirl has never really had a sister before and yet hopefully now people feel like that relationship is almost indispensable to interpretations of her. And I think Alex is one of my favorite characters I’ve ever gotten to write. I think that what’s so interesting about her is that Alex would be the star of her own show, except for the fact that her sister is Supergirl. She’s a doctor and an alien fighting secret agent. If she played an instrument, she’d be Buckaroo Banzai. She’s this amazing character and she’s only overshadowed by the fact that her sister is the Girl of Steel. And I think that’s so interesting that she’s both her sister’s protector, and teacher, and confidant. But then can’t do half the things that Kara can do and yet is so resourceful on her own. I just think she’s just such an amazingly interesting, complex, and funny, and deep, and emotional. And just the journey that she went through regarding her own sexuality this year. She’s never not interesting. There’s no situation you can put her in where I don’t think she’s the most interesting person in the room.”

I really hate when someone thinks there’s a “wrong answer” to someone’s favorite JoJo (or opinion in general). Like, who the fuck cares if their favorite JoJo is Giorno or Jonathan? There’s no wrong answer to that question. Someone actually asked me one time who my favorite JoJo was, and she said something about there being a “wrong answer”. So I answered “Jolyne. But I love Josuke, Johnny, and Jotaro, too” And she was like “wanna know what the ‘wrong choice’ is?” and I just replied “let me fucking guess. Giorno?” And the worst part about that was, she told me she didn’t even read part 5/or she wasn’t there yet or some shit. Nah, bitch. Don’t make someone feel like shit because of their favorite JoJo. I mean, Joseph is my least favorite. Doesn’t mean I dislike him. I still reblog pics of him and like his character and laugh at his stupidity sometimes. Hell, he was my first JoJo crush. And the majority will say Joseph is the best JoJo ever. And while I don’t agree with it, that’s their opinion. Just like I dislike Funny Valentine and think he’s the worst villain, majority will say he’s the best villain. Because we all have opinions. And there can never be a wrong choice or answer on someone’s goddamn opinion. Thanks.

Working on my design for fem!/nyo!England. I still haven’t nailed down a hairstyle, so let me know which one’s your favorite!

I kind of like C even though that’s basically just male England’s normal hair, pffft.

I don’t get why Eragon doesn’t have a bigger fanbase.
Like the leader of the largest and most EPIC rebellion against Mr. Fucktwat Galbatorix is literally a woman of color and ISNT USED AS A ROMANTIC INTEREST FOR THE MAIN CHARACTER. OR ANY CHARACTER. I mean that whole thing with Murtagh happened but it didn’t really go anywhere and it wasn’t the main focus soo. Plus, we got this KICKASS FEMALE ELF NAMED ARYA WHO. KICKS. ASS. ERAGON TRIES TO GO AFTER THAT BOOTY BUT SHES LIKE NAAAAW SON and he still has those romantic feelings but HE RESPECTS THAT SHE DOESNT FEEL THE SAME SO HE PUSHES HIS DICK FEELINGS ASIDE. Another great example of kickass females is the litERAL MAIN CHARACTER well one of the two main characters SAPHIRA WHO IS A FUCKN DRAGON WHO IS SO SELF CONFIDENT AND KICKS. FUCKING. ASS. BECAUSE SHE IS A L I T E R A L D R A G O N AND ALSO THE LAST FEMALE DRAGON IN EXISTENCE. Then the motherfuckin queen of ELVES - elves, who are like 10 times stronger than humans and are immortal and SHE KICKS ASS AS QUEEN WITH A MOTHA FUCKIN ALBINO RAVEN. Then we got Bridget who ain’t having none of Roran’s shit. Katrina’s a bit of a damsel-type, but not to the point of total helplessness - she’s still rad af. And tbh, it’s okay to have a few damsel types - just look at our boy Eragon in the beginning of the series. Total damsel. Murtagh is also in serious need of rescuing. He’s like the Bucky in this series. And don’t even get me started on Orrin…. And let’s not forget the fact that one of the two original bad guys that got our main characters involved in everything is actually female. Like seriously - I had no idea that the Ra'zac weren’t both male until Brisingr. Also, the leader of Du Vrangr Gata - Trianna - is a kickass girl and a SORCERESS. And that kickass leader of the Varden actually becomes motherfucking QUEEN
ALSO that dumbfuck Eragon fucks up when using magic to bless a kid so that kid ends up being able to feel EVERYONE’S PAIN so she grows up real quick and IS FORCED TO FEEL EVERYONE’S DISCOMFORT BECAUSE SOMEBODY FUCKED UP but then it gets sorted out and she’s bitter af because after all that suffering of an ENTIRE WAR she kinda has a right to be a lil upset. But then she ends up helping out n stuff even tho she is LITERALLY a child. And I don’t even know what Angela is, but she’s like my favorite character aND SO FUKCIN RAD N KICKASS so honestly I think you should just read these books like right now because of all the KICKASS FEMALES but stay tf away from the movie.
Also, in case I didn’t mention,
Mother
Fucking
DRAGONS

So I watched another episode of my new favorite Disney channel show Andi Mack yesterday and it featured:

–a character calmly and gently telling a friend she has a crush on, “Hey, I’ve noticed that there’s a dynamic in our relationship where I make an effort to take an interest in the things that are important to you and do things I don’t want to do because you ask me to, and you don’t really do the same for me.  So, no hard feelings, but I don’t want to be friends anymore.”  Like, holy crap, I will take that over every token girls-can-do-anything-boys-can-do sitcom episode in the world.

–at the end of the episode they showed footage of a bunch of middle school kids in a room recapping the episode and talking about what they thought about it and it was the most adorable thing I have ever seen.

–also my gay wife, Bex, was in the episode, which was nice

in OTH I am SO proud of the writers To not have tried to put Haley & Lucas together! I feel as if any other show would've done that!

It’s one of my favorite things about the show. Literally in Haley’s first scene in the pilot she clearly states this will “not be a Joey loves Dawson thing because that would be creepy” and they stick to that, to the very end.

What is also great about Haley’s character (among many other things) is that she finds a relationship in S1 (with the jock, no less, and it looks like it’s going to be that stereotypical Jock/Nerd trope…but nope) and stays with that same person throughout the entirety of the series. Does she kiss Chris Keller? Sure. Does she go on tour and is she estranged from Nathan for awhile? Sure. But she never dates someone else, sleeps with someone else, falls in love with someone else, etc. He is it for her, and they are together for the entirety of the series. No typical “Why can’t they be together NOW” storylines, besides a small blip in S2/3 when she goes on tour (which I honestly think was just because she actually was on tour at the time so they had to write the storyline that way). And the same goes for Nathan, to be honest (in some aspects even more so). As soon as he finds Haley, he doesn’t even stray from her for a second, completely destroying the “asshole jock” typical trope that is so popular in TV series, like the writers think “Oh well this guy is popular and plays sports so obviously he has to cheat on his girlfriend. He’s charming though so the audience will forgive him.” Not in OTH, no sir-ee.

I love that subtly, OTH breaks through so many typical TV tropes via characterization and at first you don’t even realize it but when you break it down you’re like damn, this show is so progressive sometimes (and occasionally not, but what can ya do)!

I feel like it was overshadowed by cas and everything but...I'm so upset about Rowena??? Like, she was totally fucked over and deserved better!! The number of female characters being killed or fucked up this season (esp in the last episodes) have been ridiculous, not least because you KNOW they won't be brought back or respected like the male characters! Rowena was my favorite character and it makes me so angry to see her treated like this. I'm so tired of the way this show treats its women...

The strange thing is, I kinda feel like she’d be back before even Crowley would at this point.

I mean, I understand WHY Lucifer felt the need to kill her, since she was the only person with the power to send him back to the cage PROPERLY. She was the only real threat to him anymore. He sneered at Sam and Dean and mocked them AND Crowley.

I… kinda feel like Rowena is a survivor. Even now…

But even if she doesn’t come back, HECK SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE ON THE PLANET LUCIFER FELT WAS AN ACTUAL THREAT TO HIM. That’s a powerful position to be in.

I would love to see her back, because unlike Crowley who really did feel like we wrapped up his main story, I always felt like Rowena deserved some sort of retribution against not only the Men of Letters, but the Grand Coven. I mean she earned back some of that over s11 and in 12.11, but I would love to see those stories play out more now…

Plus, with Crowley dead, WHO IS GOING TO FEED OLIVETTE THE HAMSTER?!

Also… who’s minding Hell right now? I think there might be a serious power vacuum there…

(gosh I hope Rowena gets to come back. She was so good at surviving)

Rant About Nobuyuki's ES

First of all, I love Nobuyuki. He’s my favorite character, and I would kill for him, so this little rant comes more on behalf of the event’s plot than it does him.
But I would like to say that I do not like his ES.
At all.
I never like events that contain alcohol in them (though I am not against alcohol) because it leads to people making choices they may not make when sober.
In the country where I live, drinking just two glasses of wine renders you unable to consent to anything sexual. For this reason, I hate when characters drink and then make choices like that. To me it is a form of rape because the person may not consent if sober.
Of course Nobuyuki’s ES did not contain that, thankfully, but it did contain another form of deceit. A worse form in my opinion.

A little spoiler here, but Nobuyuki purposefully gets MC drunk.
After he’s been expecting her, he lets her into his room at an inn and gets her drinking. MC straight out says that she only wants one cup because she’ll be working later, but he disregards her. He keeps filling her cup over and over again, and even tells her to drink point blank when she has had too much already and can’t keep going.
After that, MC passes out from the alcohol-
And Nobuyuki’s allegedly undresses her. He strips her down to her under clothing (not touching her inappropriately) and lays next to her.
The next morning, MC has drank so much that she can’t remember the previous night. She wakes up with shock to find Nobuyuki next to her and she undressed.
Her mind goes the rational route: she slept with him.
She then runs out of the inn and crashes into her family. Nobuyuki has alerted her family to the fact that they’ve slept together (which they didn’t), and how he plans to marry her.
He never corrects MC on the fact that they didn’t do anything, instead he tells her she may now have a life within her. And he also states that he’ll “make an honest woman” out of her as if her reputation will be ruined for what (never) happened.
MC in shock, goes along with the marriage and leaves with him.
The ES ends, but it continues in his epilogue.
In his epilogue, Nobuyuki, point blank, admits to what he did. He states clearly that he got her drunk on purpose, made her think that her reputation was sullied, and “half-kidnapped her” because she met his standards on what Lady Sanada should be. He also admits that he did all of that for his blood line, but he did end up falling in love with her.
When MC confesses that she loves him, Nobuyuki is unsatisfied and expresses that he wants her to love him until she only thinks of him and can not bear to leave him (a little creepy, but I like yanderes).

So yeah, their entire marriage is built on deceit.
He purposefully went against her wishes of drinking, and made her believe she was sullied because they had slept together (when they never had).

Again, I love Nobuyuki. He’s my all time favorite character, I love how sweet he is, how possessive he is, and so on, but I don’t like his ES.
I don’t blame him necessarily for his actions, but I do find them a little…disturbing. Even with my love of yanderes, I still feel like it was a little…invasive.
But, what can we expect from an event containing alcohol mixed with seduction?

So, yeah, just a heads up if you haven’t read his story yet.
And remember that, once a person drinks alcohol, they can’t consent to anything sexual in most countries.
“Either you’re sober or the night is over” as my grandma used to say.
