CABIN FEVER | Nyx Ulric x Reader

@the-gift-of-ffxv present for @cexane
WORDS: 3,540
SUMMARY: Nyx is handsome, sure, but he also has an odd affinity for getting on your nerves. Unfortunately, you’re stuck together on a reconnaissance mission in Niflheim…for much longer than you expect.
NOTES: Apologies for the delay (take a moodboard as a consolation)! I decided to go with your “anything goes Nyx smut” prompt. Originally meant to be a quick one-shot, but things got out of hand and this is begging for a few more chapters before the actual climax (hahaha I’m so punny). In the meantime, enjoy the first chapter! Also, thanks @glaive-eve for screaming about this with me 💕

CHAPTER 1: not in a million years, ulric

“You’re to infiltrate the Niflheimian research facility located 60 miles south of Gralea. Ulric will be your escort and point of contact throughout the mission, understood?“

"Yessir…but with all due respect, sir, I don’t need a babysitter. Besides, Ulric isn’t exactly,” you pause to find a diplomatic way to phrase it, “…the most suitable Glaive for a reconnaissance mission considering his propensity to attract attention."

Exciting News

Pairing: Mac x Reader

Summary: So I just restarted watching macgyver ever since I read ur imagines I’ve been obsessed! Can I request two imagines about the reader being pregnant with mac’s first kid? The first being where he’s kind just overly excited & he starts dadding it up before she’s even showing? I’d also love to see an imagine where Mac comes home after a long day at the Phoenix & he randomly gives the reader a foot rub not only because he knows she loves it but also bc he finds her happiness/calmness soothing. tysm!

Side Note: I hope it’s okay that I combined the foot rub imagine into the pregnant one. I just think they work really well together. :)

It was a small, well, big shock. Seeing two lines of a pregnancy test was the last thing you expected. Mac and you had talked about the prospect of growing the family, but it was never meant to be this early. Nonetheless, the timing didn’t matter now. All that you cared about was being the best mum you could be.

Staring down and pressing a light hand on your stomach, it brought a smile to your face. You were carrying Mac’s baby, and you knew he’d be overjoyed with the news. The only thing left to do was tell him.

It had been three days since you discovered the exciting, life changing news. And you weren’t expecting the cravings to kick in so early. All afternoon you only craved one thing - rocky road ice cream. Already the baby was taking after Mac.

Opening up the fridge, you grabbed the tub of rocky road only to find it completely empty. Throwing the container in the bin, the craving only intensified.

Huffing, Mac walked in, noticing the exasperation on your face.

“Something wrong?”.

Biting your lip, the only thing on your mind the last three days was figuring out the perfect way to tell Mac. Now, seemed like the best time than any. And you couldn’t be the only one who knew, the anticipation to see Mac’s face when he heard was growing everyday, just like your stomach would be soon.

“I’m just really craving ice cream, but we’re all out”. Shutting the fridge and tapping your fingers on the counter.

Mac frowned, “What are you talking about, there’s chocolate ice cream in the fridge. I brought some yesterday”. To show you that he was telling the truth, he pointed to the tub sitting all the way to the back of the freezer.

“I know, but I’ve been wanting another type of flavour and it’s just weird how much I’m craving it”.

Again, Mac still hadn’t caught onto the little hints. “What flavour?”.

“Rocky road”.

Mac spoke as he shifted through the mail, not the least bit aware of the news coming his way. “But, you hate rocky road”. Casually stating.

Taking the mail from his hands, you needed him to pay attention to what you were about to say. “Well, it looks like for the next 9 months it’s going to be my favourite flavour”.

Lifting up his eyebrow, “Why 9 months?”

Giving up, you blurted out all in one breath. “Oh my god, Mac. I’m trying to tell you that I’m pregnant and your baby is making me crave rocky road ice cream”.

His mouth gaped open, eyes glanced down to your stomach before a wide grin emerged on his face. “Your-I’m”. Spinning you around in his arms, “We’re going to have a baby!”. Mac kissed you and that night he begun searching the internet for books about pregnancy, becoming a parent and baby names.

The days were being counted down until the newest bundle of joy in the Macgyver family would arrive, even if there was still months remaining. Everyone on the team were excited, Jack even joked how the baby would like him better than anyone else. But, no-one was more excited than Mac - the father to be.

Returning home from your morning walk, remaining active was a big deal for you. So the doctor informed you to do light exercise, nothing that’ll put strain on your body. Paying no attention to the state of the living room as you wondered in, you grabbed a bottle of water. Turning to get a glass, that’s when you saw Mac.

He was sitting cross legged on the floor, surrounded by tons of books, pieces of scrunched up paper and a cup of coffee. His face lit up when he saw you standing there. Jogging over, you leaned in for a kiss but instead Mac knelt down to kiss your stomach. “Hey, little man or girl”.

Giggling, “Mac, honey, the baby is barely an inch long, it can’t hear you”.

Standing up, his hand resting on your belly. “I know, I read the books. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be excited”.

Wrapping your arms around his waist, you adored how much Mac was already enthusiastic about becoming a dad. Leading you to the couch, each time you went out for a ran or walk, Mac would always treat you to a foot rub afterwards. Today was no different, he patted his leg and started to massage your foot as he read out the facts he memorized.

“Did you know that from 6 months the baby can hear you speak”. He eagerly mentioned. “Or that still having sex while pregnant is completely safe”. You giggled at that fact, making Mac smirk. “And they say that the second trimester is usually the best one”.

Retracting your foot, you kissed him.

“What was that for?”. He asked.

Rubbing his leg, “For already being the most amazing dad, Mac. I’m barely showing and here you are already reading pregnancy books, thinking of names, baby proofing the house. I just-I’m falling more in love with you everyday”.

“Are you sure it’s not just the hormones talking”. He teased, laughing at his own comment.

“Way to ruin the moment, babe”. Smacking his shoulder.

Softly bopping your nose, "I have something that’ll make it up to you”. Running out of the room, he came back in, hiding something behind his back. Trying to arch your neck to get a better look, he moved further back.

“Close your eyes”. Mac sweetly instructed.

Doing so, you heard the clink-clack of things possibly hitting each other. Curious to know what ti was, you asked Mac if you could open your eyes. He replied with a yes.

In Mac’s hand, he held up a crib mobile decorated not with toys but with paperclips that had been bent into hearts and stars.

“Do you like it?”. Nervously watching your reaction.

Sniffing back the tears, Mac placed the mobile on the table, sitting down beside you. “If you don’t like it we can always get the one with toys, Y/N, it’s okay”.

Pressing a finger to his lips. “No, no, it’s beautiful, Mac. I love it so much, and our little one will love it too”.

Rubbing your belly, Mac put his hand over yours. “I can’t believe we’re going to be parents, this is the best, well second best day of my life”.

“Oh, yeah, what was the best day of your life?”.

Mac cupped your face, brushing his lips against yours. “The day I married you, my best friend, my partner in crime and now the mother of my child”.

More space cowboys AU?!! MORE!? I love everything you write of course but MORE! SPACE! COWBOYS! AU?! I can’t wait! (And I will absolutely wait as long as it takes)

:D Yep, more! I mentioned in my author’s notes that I freaking love recovery arcs! Hurt/comfort is one of my favourite things ever!

I can’t wait to dig into how they adjust to life on the Castle, in what ways they can try to be Paladins again (if they even can, if they even want to), and what this means in terms of their connections to their Lions and their place in this war … I’ve only just started writing a beginning, and creating an outline, so this story is a long ways off from being done. And I expect it to be another very lengthy installment (though hopefully not as massive as Short Change Heroes, holy crap, muse, please).

*hugs* Thank you so, so much for your patience and encouragement — it is such a wonderful relief, and so very kind. *more hugs*

Underwatched Animated Films I Recommend You See at Least Once in Your Life

EDIT: i didn’t expect this post to get so many notes. for the record, these are just my personal recommendations, not a definitive list of best underrated animation. i also did not include anything made by Disney. I know that they made some movies that didn’t get as much attention as their other hits, but lists of underwatched Disney films are pretty common, so I thought I’d make one of films by studios that aren’t household names.

Angel’s Egg (1985)

This movie is a nearly silent film with painstakingly beautiful frames and environmental details. All I can say is that it is a real piece of art worth watching and can be watched on YouTube here.

Les Triplets de Belleville (The Triplets of Belleville) (2005)

An incredibly quirky, strange and humorous French film, also with almost no dialogue. The colors, creative storytelling, and almost caricature-like designs make the Triplets a must-see. The setting and timeframe is left sort of abstract, but it’s a clear transition from last-century rural France to the hustle and bustle of urban America. Lots of homage is paid to cartoons from the 1920s.

Mindgame (2004)

This movie, quite like the title says, blew my mind. It’s also incredibly strange and out-there, but the awkward imagery gives way to real emotion and huge payoff by the end. The colors and animation are delightful, and always tailored to the situation. It is an amazing intersection of an altered state, a love story, a struggle to get home, an existential trip, and an unlikely group of friends. I almost always cry when I watch this. Seriously, can’t stress this enough. There is absolutely nothing like Mindgame.

Le Chat du Rabbin (The Rabbi’s Cat) (2011)

Rabbi’s Cat is a French film based on a French comic by the same name. The comic artist also directed the movie. Honestly, the dialogue  in this is unmatched. Both Cat and Rabbi are witty and have the best banter. The setting is one of the most unique and real-feeling I’ve ever seen a film take place in: a Jewish community in Algeria. It’s wonderful and incredibly charming, could not recommend more.

Tekkonkinkreet (2006)

This movie hits me on a number of levels. I have so much love for the two orphans, Black and White. The story quickly becomes raw and almost difficult, as it touches on a lot of the feelings we see in things like Grave of the Fireflies, but in a much more abstract way and on a much grander scale. Also less sad, but there are very sad parts also. I guess the best way to describe this movie is intense. While there are a lot of sweet, domestic moments, none of the gruesome reality is sugercoated for you.

The visuals are all completely stunning; the art is on another level. Treasure Town is a rich, fantastical environment and the characters flow through it effortlessly, like water. You gotta see this at least once in your life.

Chico and Rita (2010)

An American/Spanish romance between an aspiring piano player and a young singer. The film opens in Cuba and has a vibrant and unique visual style while exploring a multitude of music styles and cultural backdrops. It’s touching and sweet, but does not erase the hardships of being a black music star in America or living through the Castro regime.

Wizards (1977)

Ralph Bakshi is notorious for underappreciated gems. Wizards is set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where magic is real and man has survived the radiation to evolve into fairies, elves, and dwarves. It’s a classic nature vs industry story with Bakshi’s unique spin. My favorite character is Necron 99, the assassin robot turned pacifist. I’ll warn you though, Bakshi films aren’t everyone’s taste (he’s responsible for Fritz the Cat, which against my better judgement I recommend as well).

Wizards was completed during the dark age of animation, and its fascinating to see how Bakshi gets around these limitations to produce something that grossed more than twice its budget.

Memories (1995)

Memories is a three part anthology based on three different manga short stories, Magnetic Rose, Stink Bomb, and Cannon Fodder. While the entirety of the movie is beautifully animated and worth the watch, the best of these is the first one. It is a mysterious, tragic sci-fi horror short film set in space and worked on by Satoshi Kon (so of course its amazing).

Here it is, here’s my ACA Open Enrollment Plug:

If you support real religious freedom (i.e. your religious choices are between you and your god, you have a right to privacy)

if you have endometreosis or any other complex reproductive-system-related condition

if you want to keep seeing your gyno, and want to be able to access all the services your gyno provides

They don’t have the guts to say this anywhere you’d notice it while you’re perusing the plan benefits– I actually did try quite hard to go through all the fine print but I missed it. And clearly, New York State expects you to miss it. Because when I signed up, after a couple of months, they sent me this letter, which clearly indicates that they didn’t expect me to already have realized this:

“Fidelis, the health plan you joined, does not pay for family planning services.” (That last is bold and underlined.)

The back side of the letter tells me to go to Planned Parenthood. Here’s the whole text:

(Photo is of a list of places in several counties where you can get family planning services. Note that one of the counties in the list contains no family planning clinics and lists no options.)

I have a primary care physician who does my gyno care. This tells me, in effect, that I’m going to have to find another gyno to do that, because my insurance company won’t reimburse my PCP for a visit where she mentions birth control.

Now, what my personal medical needs are, are immaterial to this discussion, but I am making this post because I know a lot of people are trying to choose plans right now. And it is NOT OBVIOUS that Fidelis is a Catholic company– they changed their name from Catholic Health Plan of NYS for that reason, I think.

So– BE AWARE, because they’re sure as hell not going to make it obvious.

I don’t know if this is legal in any other states, or if Fidelis exists in any other states, but LOOK FOR THIS KIND OF THING when you sign up!! Explicitly CHECK TO MAKE SURE.

I am going to switch away from Fidelis not because I can’t stand to go to Planned Parenthood, but because I don’t want to support a company in any way that feels it can dictate my health choices because of its religious beliefs.

Yo fam we ought to talk. Don’t expect rock hard abs from idols. When they lift their shirts up- hope to see a nice plump lil tumtum from eating good and staying healthy m8. Aight? Aight.

I’ve finished it! Zelda end up getting a bit weird (I don’t know why), but I guess it’s fine.

I didn’t expect this eye piece to get quite populair! And a big thank you and welcome to the people who suddenly followed me! I’ve been losing some followers lately so I got a bit discouraged. But all the lovely comments and notes that I got made me happy! :)

Candy gore - Chase Brody

This took WAY longer than expected, but I’ve finished it *sighs*

I wanted to try out a new body style, and it was pretty fun. It goes really well with the chibi face too, in my opinion :).

I am going to do more of these with the other JSE egos and maybe Mark’s.

Suggest which JSE ego you would like to see next by either reblogging or writing in the notes section ^^. The one with the most amount of numbers will be the next ego I’ll draw like this ^^

Enjoy :)

The Last Jedi: A Beautiful and Exquisitely Emotional Film About the Lows and Highs of Failure

I didn’t feel prepared to review this film after my first viewing, since I felt too overwhelmed by what I had seen and I wasn’t able to properly articulate my feelings beyond the level of mostly incoherent squealing. I have just seen it for the second time and feel much more capable of writing about it now. This review will be chock-full of spoilers, so please don’t read it until you have seen the film for yourself (and I implore you to do so - it’s a brilliant ride).

Reasons to be happy today:

  • Although it often seems like Bruce, who is unwilling to talk to his children about personal matters, doesn’t care very much, we’re all aware that he does. It’s just that his care is expressed à la Batman, which is to say that  Bruce… has a file for that.
  • Bruce tends to treat his children like research projects, especially when they’re new to his household. Part of it is Bruce’s own preference– he doesn’t like to ask for information because he’s more comfortable finding it himself. Sure, it takes a lot of effort sometimes, but isn’t that how everyone operates? No? Well they should.
  • So he doesn’t talk to them directly, and that can be hard for the kids to deal with. Luckily, Bruce is also the World’s Greatest Detective: nosy, motivated, overprotective, and really, really observant. When he pays attention, he can extrapolate that personal information from their actions. The goal is to modify his own behavior to make them comfortable. It’s entirely passive, which suits Bruce (no vulnerability), and it allows him to appropriately parent his children.
  • He stores his observations and notes in individual files on his kids.
  • “Cassandra’s relationship with David Cain will undoubtably affect our dynamic, since he is the only model of fatherhood she has– a poor one. The results of his abuse are obvious. Cassandra becomes uneasy when she feels she has defied me; she shifts into defensive stances, clearly expecting pain. I will refrain from raising my voice around her in the future.”
  • “Jason saves portions of his meals and hides them in his room. Today I took a french fry off of his plate without permission, and he reacted badly. Make sure he always has access to food. Ask Alfred to buy imperishables. Ask Jason before sharing.”
  • “Note: In the past, Tim complained about his parents’ trips abroad. He was always disappointed when they extended them, as it made him feel unwanted. I should take him with me while I travel whenever possible. I should also strive for consistency. He needs to know when I’m coming home.”
  • When they finally found out about those files, the kids were both surprised and touched. Only Bruce could be that endearing and that exasperating at the same time. Truly, this could only come from their father, who continues to update the files as events unfold. Turns out he does know what all of them get up to in their spare time, even if he never actually asks. What do you know

teen wolf 6x19 confirmed that the camaro wasn’t some hand-me-down, wasn’t Laura’s or anybody else’s, it always was Derek’s and Derek’s only. It was 100% his “I’m a badass, I’m fast, I’m cool, the leather jacket is not enough, I need to have some dope car, too” vehicle. And then he felt like he needed to ‘mature” and wanted to be some pack dad or something and got himself a toyota but old habits die hard and Derek Hale loves douchebag sports cars and I, for one, am loving this.

Sometimes as someone who is stuck in one spot, it can be hard to feel connected to your gods/goddesses/deities. However, it’s not as hard as you may think to find some solid methods! Please note that your deities understand your situation and don’t expect you to suffer for them or consistently do things for them!

  • Burn candles or incense that remind you of them. If you are unable to do this, try an oil diffuser or room spray.
  • Use blankets, sheets, pillows, etc. that have colors you associate with them.
  • Make an online devotional blog or altar. I do this [X]
  • Chat with other people who work with them.
  • If your body is okay with it, eat foods that are sacred/connected to them.
  • Hang pictures or decorations that correspond with their sacred animals, plants, or what lessons or teachings they present to you.
  • Write devotional poetry, or make drawings for them.
  • Draw sigils for them and hang them on your walls, ceiling, or put under your mattress.
  • Find a stuffed animal that you feel captures their essence or reminds you of them, and hold it close when you need the support.
  • Research them/browse their tag on tumblr.
  • Keep stones and crystals you associate with them near you – on a bedside table or under your pillow.
  • Use astral travel or dream magic to connect with them.
  • Listen to music that makes you feel closer to them.
  • Watch shows or movies that remind you of them.
  • Pray to them, talk to them, write them a letter. Stay in communication with them, especially in times of need.
  • Meditate.
  • Drink something warm or cool that helps you connect with them.
  • Make a spell bottle/jar that you feel captures their essence. Charge during good days, use for connection and support during the not-so-good days.
  • Make emoji spells to feel more connected to them.
  • Expose yourself to natural light (or gentle artificial light) or complete darkness, depending on the deity.
  • Devote small, everyday tasks to them. (Example for the Greek + Roman pantheon.)
  • Read books about them, or that remind you of them/their values.
  • Make herb sachets for them, keep them under your pillow or hang on your wall.
  • Wear scented oils, perfumes, lotions, or pick a shampoo with a scent or ingredients that make you think of them.
  • @thewitchofthenorse also has a post on this here!
  • And here is a post about nature connection while bedridden, which is great for nature deities!
  • Again, please note that you don’t need to do anything to be connected to your gods/goddesses/deities. They know and understand what you are going through, and are patient.
