Guys, I did it.
Applying to college was something I dreamed about since I was knee high to a grasshopper. There was a teacher when I was a senior in AP Government who said I wouldn’t amount to anything because I was a child of divorce and going straight into the military.
She said she wouldn’t be surprised if I came home from a deployment all messed up in the head, among other horrid things.
So, I showed her up. I applied to every college in the state of Texas as well as every Ivy League school…and got in on full rides from sports and academics. That was to prove that I could get into college. Then, in 2014, I walked into her classroom after spending nine months in Afghanistan. Again…proved her wrong.
Here I am, six years later, and about to start college.
Don’t ever, EVER, let someone tell you that you can’t do something because of your history. Prove them wrong. Show people that you are more than your past. Do what you want. Go to school and be the best damn whatever it is you want to be. Excel. Be wonderful. Be amazing. Be the best.
