When galaxies collide

AN: I wrote this some time ago and felt like sharing it because it’s not too bad. While reading, please keep in mind that English isn’t my first language, so  excuse any possible mistakes.

Baz

The way he looks at me is irritating.

His eyes never seem to leave me. They’re following me through the room, a solid blue wall. Blue as crayons. They’re extraordinarily ordinary.

I try not to let him notice how he unnerves me. I try to ignore him and his stupidly blue eyes. His tawny skin and his unruly curls. Everything about him is golden and so bright that it looks like he belongs in space. Somewhere far away. Definitely not here.

Simon

This boy looks like he belongs to another planet. His skin is an indescribable mixture of reds and browns and it shimmers like pixie dust. His hair is dark and way longer than mine and it falls over his shoulders, framing his face, making it look at least a bit softer. Because his cheekbones are sharp and his eyes are hard and he scowls all the time.

He should make me feel uncomfortable. I should be scared by him.

But I’m not.

He seems to be drawing me in. I can’t stop watching him, how he moves around. He talks to no one and no one talks to him. Does he feel alone? It seems like there are galaxies between me and him.

Baz

I finally know where he belongs. He’s the sun that is missing in the galaxy I call my life. He completes my very own sun-system. He still hasn’t stopped looking at me.

And when I hear people slowly leaving the room, I decide that I should be brave once in my life.

I turn and look at him. Right into his ridiculously blue eyes.

My breath catches and for a moment, he is all that I can see. He’s the centre of my everything. He’s every nice thing I can think of.

But then he looks away and the moment is broken.

Simon

His grey eyes seem to have unsettled something deep inside of me. Something I was afraid do wake, something I never wanted to think about. He’s still holding my gaze and it hurts, looking at his face hurts. It makes me think of how much I want to talk to him, screw his intimidating looks.

So I break the eye-contact.

Then I stand up.

And start to make my way towards him.

Baz

Within seconds he’s in front of me, making my stomach turn. I can’t name the look on his face. Is he angry because I stared at him? Shouldn’t I be the one who’s angry?

But then he interrupts my thoughts by saying: “You don’t talk to anyone.”

It surprises me. It’s not even a question, it’s a simple statement. What am I supposed to answer to this? I don’t want to scare him away, he’s even more beautiful up close.

“That’s none of your fucking business.”

Oh great.

Simon

He spits out a rude answer, but I can’t really blame him, since my question was probably the least eloquent thing I could have said.

“Well,” I stutter, trying to regain my composure. “I just wanted to ask if I could sit with you.”

There’s a flicker of something in his eyes and I hope that he’ll say yes.

Baz

This boy is going to be the death of me. Now that he’s standing right in front of me, I can see that his face is sprinkled with tiny freckles. There’s an edge of one of his teeth missing, which makes him look way younger. He’s making me feel sick. But the good kind.

He asked if he could sit with me and if I weren’t so absolutely incompatible with human beings, I would have said yes by now. But I still haven’t answered his question and he’s still looking up at me with his blue eyes, chewing on his plump bottom lip.

Before I can think to much about this, I feel my mouth opening.

Simon

“If you insist,” he mumbles and for a moment, I’m worried that he’s irritated by me and is just surrendering because he wants me to stop talking. But then he shoots me a half-smile and it feels like gravity has lost its hold on me.

I smile back at him, already planning to tell Penny all of this as soon as I enter our flat. Although he seemed so far away at first, almost like he lived on another planet, I can’t feel the galaxies dividing us any more. Now we’re circling around each other. As if he’s as focused on me as I am on him.

But then he frowns.

Baz

He beams at me and I can’t help but try to memorize all of his expression, in case I’m not seeing it again. Or at least, not directed at me.

We’re both silent for a moment, standing in the middle of the empty room and staring at each other. Then I remember that I don’t even know his name.

His face falls when I stop smiling and I immediately want to comfort him, tell him that I didn’t change my mind, that I’m just thinking, but I’m not exactly known to be empathic in public.

“What’s your name?”, I ask, cringing internally at how emotionless my voice sounds.

He relaxes, ruffling his curls as his smile returns.

“Simon. Simon Snow.”

Oh well, at least we both have ridiculous names.

Simon

He grins when he hears my name, and I immediately feel self-conscious. My name is one of the things I will never not be embarrassed about.

I have already opened my mouth to say something when he cuts me off.

“Don’t worry, I’m not making fun of you. Would be a bit hypocritical if you consider that my name is Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch. You can call me Baz though.”

I snort, feeling relieved. His name is as extraordinary as he is and even though there’s no way I’m going to remember all of it, I still like it. It sort of fits him.

Baz

My stomach does a somersault when Simon says, “We match, I guess.”.

We do not match, we absolutely don’t. But that doesn’t stop me from trying.

Okay so I'm gay and I'm all for equality & do my best to be open minded & respectful, but sometimes I catch myself not being so. Like sometimes I struggle understanding trans rights, even though I'm gay?! And sometimes I fall victim to the thinking of conservatives. Like we accuse conservatives of being close minded for not supporting LGBT rights, when liberals don't accept conservative views Ike being pro life... I don't know I just think it's hypocritical of liberals..

Ok so, not gonna lie, reading this was not fun. That being said, I sorta have this rule where if someone asks me a question, even if it’s problematic, I try my best to just answer calmly, hoping that if you’re asking a question it’s because you’re open to new ideas that might hopefully replace your existing ones.

Soooooo lets get started.

1. One of the biggest hurdles for the trans community is in fact the gay community, you expressing some sort of surprise that you, presumably a gay man, can at times feel transphobic would probably not come as any surprise to an actual trans person who has to deal with this all the time. Probably definitely saddens them, but not exactly surprising. I mean, the gay community by and large can still be very hostile towards trans people and some gay people will even casually shit all over trans people as a way of engendering themselves to conservatives as the Cool Gay. “Sure, I’m gay, but I’m not one of those liberal hippy gays, I believe in a gender binary, look at me and how much we have in common!” The thing is, yes, being a cis gay person makes it sometimes very hard to exactly understand what the experiences of a trans person are. The notion of feeling uneasy about ones gender, which for most of us is an aspect of our identity we just take for granted and don’t think about, is probably very alien to most cis people, even gay ones. However, you don’t really need to have an intimate understanding of every issue to simply respect that persons ability to lead a life that they feel reflects their most authentic self. At the end of the day, even if you’re someone who can never understand specifically what it feels like not be comfortable with your own gender, you can still hopefully understand that it’s not really your business to regulate other people’s lives. Conservative arguments about gender revolve around bathrooms - essentially making it impossible for trans people to work in a public building or even go out because once they leave their house they don’t have a bathroom to use. Their reasoning is the safety of others, specifically women and children, which is insane because there’s never been a single instance of a trans person attacking anyone in a bathroom and this whole argument is rooted in the same kind of bigotry that led people to characterize gay men as pedophiles for fucking years. So, I’m not really sure what about the conservative argument makes sense to you, personally I don’t see what right people have to regulate the private personal decisions of other citizens.

2. Next, women’s reproductive rights. Ok, so, the big problem here is pretty obvious just by the way you phrased your question, which was that you seem to view women’s access to their own reproductive rights as like this abstract argument. Sorta like, what should our tax rate be? 30% or 25%…. lets debate the merits of both sides and find out. The thing is, reproductive rights aren’t abstract. They may seem that way to men, even gay men, because men have no concept of how essential these rights are for women since our government at no point has ever regulated our lives and our bodies in order to trap us within certain moral norms.

But yeah, lets break this down a little. Why are reproductive rights so important to conservative ideology? Well, it’s actually not the Christian thing, since Christianity was completely silent on abortion throughout history until we began entering the industrial era. Why the change? Well because the shift from a pre to a post-industrial economy meant having tons of children was not feasible for most people anymore. Prior to industrialization if you wanted to lead a successful life you had to have children, lots of them, because children tended the fields, brought in the harvest, fed your animals, and the fact that kids didn’t always reach adulthood meant you had extra for just in case. Moreover, the industrial revolution made it very hard for families to survive one just one partners income, especially if you had more than just a couple kids. So what happens? Two things - women start going to work to help their families and they also start having abortions with much greater frequency because they literally could not afford these kids anymore. Now, why is this such an issue? Well because society up until this point was heavily invested in the idea of female domesticity, which was essentially a religious fable created by men that said women were the moral center of every family, which is why it was their jobs to raise the children and also to guide their husbands moral decisions. However, the only way women could stay pure enough to maintain this role was by not leaving the house, the public sphere was an ugly immoral place where people had to sell their virtues to get ahead and it was thought that if women were allowed to enter that world then morality as a whole would decay. It’s all bullshit, of course, but it was a very effective way of giving women the illusion of agency and influence while still keeping them locked up in their home. Plus, the fact that women were forced to believe that they were the pillars of morality created a sense of duty for them to stay with their husbands and fulfill their role. POINT IS, ok, so now women are leaving their homes, how do we fix that? Oh, right, lets make it fucking impossible for women to work or have careers by taking away their agency to make decisions about their own lives. Like, oh, you don’t want this fourth baby because it’ll prevent you from being able to have a job and your family will suffer as a consequence? Too bad! Sucks to suck #awomansplace. All that said, did any anti-abortion regulations ever actually stop abortions? NO. Women were still having abortions, the only difference was that they were having them in alley ways and butcher shops. They were getting sick from an infection or a botched surgery and dying and for what?? To have the same sort of basic agency and free will to determine the circumstances of their lives that men have always had as a given and take for granted.

Reproductive rights is essential to every other aspect of a woman’s life. It determines what level of education they can get, what their income could be, what sort of personal freedom they’ll have to go on vacation, or date, or just have a night out with friends, and sometimes it even determines whether they’ll live or die. And that’s what conservatives want. They want to use women’s reproductive biology as a tool to subjugate them and make them less independent, it’s a way of exercising patriarchal control over women by making those women dependent on either a man or government assistance just to survive financially. So, yeah, the lives of women aren’t simply an abstract idea you toss around, debating the pros and cons of, as if it’s all the same.

Call it hypocritical if you want, but I think that’s an awful mischaracterization of things because at no point in time are liberals ever trying to control or regulate a private aspects of a conservatives life. I think liberal ideology is about being accepting of whatever personal choices people make as long as those choices don’t have a direct negative impact on another persons happiness or freedom. It doesn’t mean accept anything without question. If a person wants to impose control on another individual then no, we won’t accept that, because people should not get to build their political ideology based on their ability to exert control into other people’s lives.

ANYWAYS, this has been super long and it honestly doesn’t even cover half of the complexities of these issues so I hope you’ll do your own research and keep thinking about these topics while also remembering that as a cis male your ability to actually understand the experience of others is limited, but that doesn’t mean you can’t educate yourself and try to empathize with those that are different than yourself and imagine how you’d feel if you were trapped in their circumstances.

after watching the new episode i was wondering if it possible for TodoBaku or is there moment that show Bakugou doesn't really mind about Todoroki in the later chapter ? and what's your opinion in TodoBaku ? how do you see their relationship ? Thanx :)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh what a good great unexpected question - personally, I don’t ship it romantically one bit, but it is one of my favorite dekusquad/bakusquad relationships - I guess you might consider it something similar to an accidental sort-of-friendship neither of them seem to actually have noticed yet? It’s definitely a unique relationship for either of them, at least… they make it clear more than once that they Do Not Give A Fuck about the other’s personal struggles, I just can’t see them talking and finding sympathy in each other, but that just ends up giving them a kind of blunt and no-bullshit relationship that doesn’t stop them from working together when needed. I don’t know how to properly explain it, honestly, but they’re fun!

I don’t know how much spoilers you want so I’ll keep this as vague as I can, but they do happen together more than either of them would like, and their relationship is a really amusing one for me - Todoroki actually cracks jokes with Bakugou around, though always with his neutral face and making fun of Bakugou himself when he does, and the way he has of just straight out ignoring Bakugou’s insults and fire-spitting and answering as if they were having a civil conversation is weirdly entertaining tbh

I wouldn’t say that Bakugou “doesn’t mind Todoroki”, but he does end up having way more important things to think about than his one-sided rivalry with him, and once he starts settling things with Deku the narrative mostly moves to push in that direction, which means that every interaction he has with Todoroki is either on neutral grounds or in the middle of forced cooperation, pushing any antagonism they might have to the background, really - also, the more the story goes on the more Bakugou becomes civil with the rest of the class, so there’s that too! Anyway, they’re fun to me, I wish to draw more of them in the future tbh

Anon said: I do laugh at Bakugou’s reaction on the podium bc visually its animated funny. But u r right that the whole thing is fucked. How is that even appropriate to do to him? And it takes until after his fight with deku many arcs later for All Might to say “we maybe sort of neglected this kid’s mental health.” Like wtf. It upsets me sometimes to think just how much All Might just doesn’t even *see* Bakugou. So much is wrong about this, from putting Bakugou on display to forcing the medal on him.

Blessed words all of them - it’s why I’m such a fan of the idea of Bakugou without even noticing switching his role model to Aizawa, actually? Aizawa’s the only adult figure in the whole manga who’s constantly been there for Bakugou, he has his future and mental health and reputation constantly in mind and works his ass off to try and help him along as much as possible, he takes note of everything Bakugou goes through, every switch in mood and worsening in personality and interpersonal relationships, and he’s always incredibly fast in nudging him towards the right path again - and Bakugou noticed. He trusts Aizawa to know him, follows his directions and accepts his advices, believes he’ll have his back without an ounce of doubt, that’s the tutor/student relationship Bakugou deserves

I understand that All Might has a lot of problems of his own and he’s just learning to be a teacher anyway, but he found it in himself to be there for Deku, while Bakugou has been obviously staring at his back for the whole length of the manga and it took All Might 120 chapters to notice, that’s just plain sad

Sorry this might be long but I just want to vent to someone. I understand that some people not like sjm's books for various reasons (mostly the lack of representation), but what I don't get is that there's an actual fandom of anti-s*j*m. Never before have i ever seen an actual fandom of people who are anti anything, or blogs solely dedicated to hating someone's work. Authors are human too. (1/2)

Just compare her to JKR. She had 7 books in her series and as far as I can remember there’s one, maybe 2, canon black characters throughout the series, and theyre hardly seen, and I’ve never seen an anti-jkr fandom or blogs only dedicated to hating her work. I just don’t understand why anyone would make a blog dedicated to hating a person. These people are human. (2/2)

I understand what you’re saying. SJM is hardly the only example of a book that has bad PoC representation, and few prominent LGBTQ characters. But for some reason, her work inspires anti blogs whereas other books, that have the same issues don’t. It’s something that has struck me as odd as well.

That’s not to say that reading with a critical eye is not important. It really is, and we definitely do need to be demanding more from authors in terms of good rep. (I know this might seem contradictory to my whole “i read for enjoyment” thing but I’ll get to that in a second.”) What bothers me about antis is that they…build this entire identity for themselves that is based around hating something? And I don’t think hatred is the best emotion to have when going into critiquing something.

Similarly, it’s not as if antis are these people who just disliked a plot line or something in an SJM book and put the series down. No, they are clearly people who have read all the books, and keep reading them, and in some way are actively participating in the fandom. That’s what I don’t get. I respect anyone’s reason for not enjoying Sarah’s books- not every book is for everyone, and I can easily see how someone might read Nehemia’s death in CoM, roll their eyes because of how utterly offensive and badly plotted it is and then put the books down forever. And I respect that. What I don’t understand about the anti mentality is that they keep coming back, and reading, and engaging. There is of course room for posts about why we don’t like a certain book, I’ve obviously hated books before too and I’ve definitely complained about things. So when I say anti i really dont mean people who just criticize the things they disliked in acowar or something, I really just mean people who have an entire blog dedicated to hating something. But in order to keep that blog fueled with hatred they have to keep reading the thing they hate and it’s like…wow almost as if you even enjoy that thing???

It’s almost as if engaging in anti discourse is how they make themselves feel better for enjoying portions of this problematic thing? And that’s why I’m a big proponent of reading whatever you want for enjoyment—you should be able to enjoy whatever it is you enjoy without feeling badly about it. Because frankly, no book you read is going to be “unproblematic” in some way and no book is going to be perfect and without valid criticism. It’s almost as if antis enjoy SJM’s books in some ways, but feel guilty for enjoying it, so in order to cope with that guilt, they trash her for everything, and anything. For instance, I adore LOTR, and am not going to feel guilty for enjoying it, but I also acknowledge that the way Tolkien handles people of color (namely by making them orcs…) is shit and racist and not something that we should ever see in any fantasy novel again. You can…enjoy something and also know that it has problems. My blog is generally geared towards focusing on the things about books that I enjoy, because Idk, I got tired of all the hate after acowar, and am finally reemerging into the sphere of critical discourse.

I also think that the anti mentality comes from people enjoying these books, then going on tumblr and seeing what other people have to say that is negative, and then thinking oH SHIT I NEED TO HATE THESE BOOKS TOO. Except…you enjoyed them for a reason, and you can’t…get rid of that enjoyment, all you can do is say “hey well there are some not so great things about these books and here’s why.”

You shouldn’t…blindly hate someone for writing things in a way that you dislike. SJM has creative license and it’s seriously not up to us what happens in the book. I’m not talking about people with valid critiques of how she handles marginalized characters, I’m talking about the antis who HATE how Chaol and Aelin were written, who dislike the way characters develop, who want to burn SJM at the stake for DARING to write characters who don’t act perfectly all of the time. That’s the anti shit that really pisses me off. You can be critical all you want, and call out the things that need to be called out but…you don’t really have a leg to stand on if your discourse starts with “I can’t BELIEVE how she wrote Celaena’s character after CoM, Aelin is the fucking worst, I’m pretending that Aelin doesn’t exist.” I mean whatever, sure, but ultimately people do need to realize that authors get to make their own choices about how their characters developed and uh…whats in the book is ultimately who the character *actually* is and it’s not always going to line up with who the readers thought the character was but…um, sorry? That happens. And yes you’re allowed to be dissatisfied with a character but if you hate her that much, put the book down???

Finally, I think that SJM’s books inspire anti-ness because they are so so SO dramatic as to be polarizing. She’s constantly taking tropes (like the bad boy turned hero) and stretching them to the extreme. She is constantly beating her characters down and heaping trauma on them. There are a lot of *gasp* moments in tog and acotar. A lot of crying. A lot of screaming moments as well. And…while someone like me LIVES L I V E S for drama, a lot of people react negatively to it in the extreme. The books are polarizing because they are laden with emotion and melodrama and that doesnt work for everyone.

tldr; actual critical discussions of sjm are great and we should acknowledge the problems in her books especially in terms of marginalized characters. idk why there is an entire portion of this website dedicated to hating her, but i tried to give you some pseudo-psychological explanations for it.

Loki x Reader: Honeymooners pt 1

Gonna turn this into a multi chapter thing since it’s getting kinda long. The prompt about reader and Loki going undercover as honeymooners at a fancy honeymoon destination that I said I’d write forever ago but didn’t get around to

(So if you’re going under cover for anything, you’d probably want fake names, but I don’t want to make up fake names and I like using Loki’s name so yea…)

A loud ringing from your nightstand roused you from your deep sleep. Your eyes opened instantly, years of training instantly putting you on alert as you recognize a mission briefing call. “I’m here.” You answered.

"Agent, good, head up to the debriefing room,“ Mariah Hill’s voice came through the speaker, "we have your next assignment.”

You nodded, the last traces of sleep leaving you as you remembered she couldn’t see. “Should I grab my partner?”

“Not yet, he’s getting a debriefing packet but there’s classified information we need to go over with you separately.”

You raised an eyebrow. Loki, god of mischief, currently tasked with aiding SHIELD for glorified community service and thus your partner on most missions, would be debriefed separately? If you were working together, wouldn’t the logical thing be to brief you simultaneously so any ideas the other had or questions could be addressed together? You knew better than to ask questions though, Mariah would just end up repeating her orders. “Understood, I’ll be there in ten.”

“Hurry, your transport leaves in two hours, everything you need is packed, so this debriefing has to be fast.”

You sighed as she hung up, failure to plan on SHIELD’s part always warranted an emergency on your part. Hopefully the travel time would be long so you and Loki could fill each other in on anything that had been missed. Still, something about separate briefings disturbed you. No sense in worrying about it now though, time was ticking and you still needed to shower.

Ten minutes later, you were rushing into the briefing room where Mariah sat at a long high-tech table, a TV screen displaying a mountain lodge behind her. “Recognize it?” Mariah asked, looking up as you entered.

You stared at the screen blankly, searching your memory. The lodge seemed familiar in a dreamlike way, but nothing truly stood out.

“Not sure, your history and all, but some little girls grow up planning their dream weddings and honeymoon vacations.”

You frowned glancing between her and the screen. “I’d never really thought about it, I guess. Marriage might come some day, but I’ve had other things to worry about. Maybe friends planned their’s…” You trailed off, not sure what she was getting at.

Mariah smiled, “don’t worry, it’s not a test, just was wondering if you recognized it. That’s the location of your mission. ‘Lover’s Lodge, Honeymoon Resort’, honeymoon destination of only the wealthiest and luckiest clients. It’s such a destination resort that any who attend have to prove they’ve been married in the last 48 hours. Officially they prefer 24, but occasionally travel gets interrupted and they felt like expanding the inclusion list. Newlyweds plan their weddings around when there’s space available here, very exclusive.”

“I’ll bet.” You crossed your arms, not wholly impressed. Sure it was an interesting place to visit, presumably anyone lucky enough to be an actual guest would enjoy it, but that type of feather in your cap didn’t particularly interest you, not when you’d been told of an impending mission and you were very much single. Sure you pined after a guy, but he was millennia out of your league and definitely didn’t return the feelings. Plus with your busy work schedule, dating really had taken a back seat to your plans.

“So what’s the mission?” You finally prompted.

Mariah blinked, “there’s underground seismic activity. Gamma levels are off the charts. We have reason to believe a magical portal of sorts is open in an underground area. The lodge itself exists in a weird jurisdiction and since the portal is believed to be magic in nature, we need your partner to investigate it.”

“Loki.”

She nodded, “he’s uniquely equipped to handle magical enemies and we don’t particularly trust him to do anything solo. The god of lies title and history inspires a great deal of understandable distrust.”

You shrugged, “fair enough. I trust him though.”

“Which makes you uniquely suited to operate as his partner, as well as the other portion of this undercover operation.”

You were starting to get a headache, she seemed to be hinting at something without daring to say the actual nature of what she meant. “So we’re undercover as work staff?”

Mariah smiled thinly, “I was hoping you might’ve guessed… no, the owner needs to be investigated to see if he has any part to play in the operation of this portal and the background checks and period of time it would take to sneak you into the workforce would be far too long.”

“So?” You prompted, mind not quite working.

“I need you to go undercover as guests. Far more freedom to move around this way.”

You swallowed hard, mind reeling. “But guests have to be newlyweds…”

Mariah held up a sheet of paper. Warily, you took it from her, examining it carefully. There in crisp new letters, signed by the state of New York, lay your full name married to Loki Laufeyson. You looked up at her stunned, “what the hell is this?”

“Less than 48 hour old marriage license between you and Loki, thought that was clear. We have wedding pictures as well as several witnesses that can attest the validity of your wedding.”

“You married me to Loki without either of us knowing?” No wonder they didn’t want Loki in attendance, he was sure to be pissed.

“It’s forged, but will fool the admissions there, we snuck a different couple in several weeks ago to make sure. You’re going undercover as a newlywed couple, enjoying all the amenities and making sure to close that portal and if necessary, remove the owner from his position, assuming he is involved. Think of it as a working vacation.”

“With an ornery god, you do know Loki isn’t going to be pleased.”

“It’s a six hour car trip, you’ll have plenty of time to warn him. And it’s by limo, refrigerator and bar fully stock, all expenses paid.”

“What if I refuse?”

“You’ll be out of a job.” Mariah glared at you.

Your eyes flashed, “I’m one of your most loyal and successful agents, one refusal and I’m out on the streets?”

Mariah sighed, “no, you’ll be heavily reprimanded and demoted, pay cut and put on leave, but please, you’re the only one qualified to do this, we need you.”

“You need Loki.”

“He won’t work with anyone else, there’s no punishment we can give him, all of it has to be willing. Even threat of returning to prison on Asgard hardly bothers him. Please, he seems to like you.”

You grit your teeth, that was the bitter crux of it. That Loki considered you an acquaintance of sorts but would never share your feelings. To have to openly act as though you were madly in love with him, only to return to hiding your feelings would kill you. Worse, Loki would either pretend to go along with it and not see how badly it tore you apart each moment, or he would refuse because ultimately he couldn’t even tolerate you as a friend. Nothing of this mission wouldn’t end extremely painfully for you. “Fine, but I’m getting another more expensive vacation after this.”

“It’s practically a vacation already, other than the portal.”

“And an obstinate Loki. That’s the only way I’m agreeing.” You crossed your arms.

“We’ll take it up with Fury, no absolute promises, but I’m sure we can manage something.”

“Good.”

By the time your conversation ended, you were becoming pressed for time. You practically flew out of the room, rushing down the many stairs and out to the waiting limo that Loki sat in, already looking annoyed. His arms were crossed as he glared sullenly out the tinted windows, fingers tapping in time to some unheard beat. “Sorry,” you panted, scrambling in beside him. A soft smile touched the corners of his mouth upon seeing you, “got held up with Mariah.”

Loki nodded, “for a moment, I was worried they might send a replacement for you.”

“Can’t get rid of me that easily.” You winked, settling in as the car lurched forward.

Loki nodded curtly, that smile once more returning. “I take it there’s a reason we were informed separately.”

“Oh yea, and you’re just going to love it.” Sarcasm dripped heavily from your tone and Loki raised his eyebrow curiously. Over the next hour you and Loki shared the various information regarding the specifics of the mission finally coming to the part you dreaded most.

“But all this could just as easily have been told together, why the separation?” Loki mused.

“It’s our cover,” you sighed heavily, lifting up the marriage certificate. Loki frowned, “I suppose I didn’t think we’d spend long there.” You shook your head, “part vacation since it’s a resort and SHIELD is cheap, and we need to investigate the owner as guests. It’s easier than getting us jobs apparently.”

Loki squinted at the paper, “we’re married?” He looked up at you and blinked.

You popped the cork off the bottle you’d been struggling to open, “only technically,” you said taking a long swill. “It’s a forgery but best in the business. Sorry to do that to you, only way they could think of apparently.”

Loki shrugged, “I could think of worse covers.”

You looked at him, mid drink. Slowly you removed the bottle, “really?”

“They could have placed me with a different agent, which would be insufferable.”

You laughed, “yea, I guess.” Still your heart ached, not sure how to vocalize your feelings.

Loki could see the sadness in your eyes but didn’t seem to realize what caused it. “What if we made it into a competition?”

“A competition?” You repeated.

“Whoever appears the better and more in love spouse, the winner.”

You winced internally but you knew you loved a good challenge. Almost unwittingly, you heard yourself answer, “you’re on, I’m going to kick your ass at this.”

“My love, that you could think to hurt me?” Loki placed his hand over his heart in shock.

You scowled, “you didn’t say we started yet!”

“Fair enough agent.”

“What’s the loser have to do?”

“I’m sure I’ll think of something.” Loki smirked.

Scoffing, you retorted, “yea right, I’m going to win.”

The car ride passed uneventfully, you and Loki having plenty of the finer details of the mission to discuss and plan. “So it’s in a sort of mountainous area, built on a number of natural hot springs that make for quite the scenic hot tubs.”

Loki pursed his lips, “perhaps we might skip the hot tubs?”

You stared at him blankly, “and sauna? I gather?”

Loki nodded, “I don’t care for heat much.” He trailed off, looking away. You didn’t press him, but he had alluded to not tolerating heat in the past, perhaps this was related.

“It’s built over an inactive volcano, I believe, dig deep enough and you’ll find lava but no worries of eruption in my life time. At least that’s what SHIELD’s experts seem to think.”

“Is that related to the portal?”

“More like a fun fact.” You shrugged, “and a tram that can take guests down to the beach, only an hour’s ride. Sunbathing could be fun.”

Chuckling, Loki reached for his drink, “I’m sure the number of newlyweds enjoying the sunset will be amusing.”

“Probably. The tram doesn’t stop, every half hour all night. Midnight swims on a clothing optional beach.” You swallowed hard, trying not to picture Loki partaking in that.

“They really are encouraging intimacy everywhere, aren’t they?” Loki blinked, studying you.

The look he gave you was so intense, you found yourself turning away, if only to hide your blush. “Guess so. At least no one will check on whether or not guests do, right?” You forced a weak laugh.

Loki nodded thoughtfully, “that would be awfully invasive of them.”

Sleeping with Loki, or rather sleeping with Loki had only briefly crossed your mind. It would be hard to get around not sharing a bed but two mature adults could handle that surely, but if anyone noticed? That would be the final nail in your coffin to fake sex with Loki just to maintain your cover, or real but wasn’t mutually desired.

“Agent?” Loki prompted, pulling your mind back to the present.

“Meeting the owner might be challenging if he’s behind the portal.” You forced yourself to change the subject. “Though I believe he greets each couple personally during their stay, guess we’ll have to meet as many couples as possible to increase our chances of running into him.”

Loki sighed, resting his chin on his fist, “wonderful, socializing with mortals.”

-

“Oh! Loki!” You paused, “I mean, darling look! We’re here I think!”

Loki straightened up, roused from his bored stupor and followed your pointing finger out the window. For the past half hour, the limo had been winding its way slowly upwards through a forested mountainside and it had at long last shown signs of nearing a massive resort. The picture Mariah had shown you really didn’t do the place justice for its size and splendor, anyone fortunate enough to visit would definitely have to pay a small fortune.

Loki chuckled at your pet name for him, “So we have, congratulations on our first day of marriage.”

You reached for your phone and opened it, noticing a barrage of pictures featuring you and Loki photoshopped into a number of wedding poses. It had been a small, private affair apparently, contrasting notably with the amount that would go towards the honeymoon but it was evidently about the two of you and no one else.

Loki leaned against you, staring down at the pictures. You could feel your cheeks heating in a blush at the close proximity, you had been this close before and managed to hide your feelings, why was it suddenly different? You silently admonished yourself.

“That’s a lovely dress,” Loki murmured, tilting his head to the side. His long hair brushed against your cheek and you fought back a shiver. “Somehow, I think the dress would look better on the actual you, not this model they chose.”

You furrowed your brows, surprised by the sincerity of the compliment. Opening your mouth, you looked up to ask him if he was acting or meant it but Loki’s attention was already back to the sprawling grounds of the resort. Your mouth fell shut and you stayed quiet.

The limo finally rolled to a stop, the door opening as the two of you scrambled out. Loki left first, turning around and offering you his hand to help you, placing a gentle kiss on it before allowing you to straighten up completely out of the car.

You closed your eyes, praying silently for patience, strength to make it through this mission, then slowly opened them and beamed at Loki. The flirtatious giggle came easy to you as you leaned forward and pecked his cheek. Loki stiffened for a moment, before sinking into your touch as though it were the most natural thing ever.

“Do you have the marriage license, love?”

“Right here, sweetie.” You giggled again, waving it for him.

Loki pursed his lips, eyes darkening, clearly not amused by the pet name. If you were going to suffer, dying for this to be real, you might as well punish Loki with cute names. A hotelier approached as the two of you stood there, no time to turn back now.

pLEASE write out some arranged marriage au's for perc'ahlia. i BEG you

literally all you have to do is ask, so long as you don’t mind a summary of ideas rather than actual fics because…..i would die if i tried. but i have many ideas regarding these two and marriage, and quite a few are arranged marriages. let’s see….

You have your classic arranged marriage, based on a timeline where the de Rolo family is alive and Vax and Vex are far more controlled by their father’s wishes. I like to think of this one as the left overs idea, seeing as it’s founded on the principles of Frederick and Johanna having to arrange a marriage for their third child who will not go out courting, and Syldor having to make a match for Vex before he can feasibly find a future husband for Velora. The deal is struck after months of arguing, when Vex finally agrees to marry some little lordling from the north because, well, the rumors about him are that he can’t be bothered about a wife, so he ought not to mind one that spends more time in the woods than by his side, right? And she’s heard Whitestone is lovely if chilly and distant (thought, really, that’s a virtue when it comes to getting as far from Syngorn as possible, and she even gets to take Vax with her).
They meet as proper nobility and this would be the fic in which Percy politely offers to cut his finger on the sheets. Instead, they stay up most of the night with Percy carefully explaining Whitestone’s traditions and Vex explaining how rubbish some of that is, and the maid finds them asleep against each other in the morning, still propped up against the headboard in casual day clothes, a map and what looks like half a written and scribbled-over argument in parchment pieces strewn across the bed. She’ll have to be checking the linens later, then.

Then we have the canon-compliant arranged marriage that I have seen written in some form or another, where Vex was supposed to be married off to Percy, but then of course the Briarwoods happened and Byroden happened and it never got all worked out. This idea mostly involves me wanting to write Vax being an ass about it on principle and/or Cassandra casually mentioning Percy’s betrothed, which causes a whole slew of confusion and one ill-fated quest to make sure he isn’t still engaged (which of course he is) because Percy really does not want to be engaged to anyone but Vex (which of course he isn’t). The endgame of this whole comedy of errors being Vex holding the papers legally binding them hostage, while Percy tries to grab them back because “It ought to be our choice, I don’t want to push a deal on you that you had no say in.” “Oh, so you’re not interested in making deals you don’t know the full repercussions of now, hm?” “I’m not - It’s not the repercussions I’m working about, it’s - I’d rather make this deal with you - give me the damn papers, Vex!”

I also have this idea for something very Swan Princess-esque where Vex and Percy grew up knowing they were going to be married, but then i also have this love of doing things a little backwards. So Percy is the one who starts falling in love first - in tiny inches, with the way Vex stands straight and tall with her brother when they’ve gotten in trouble again, with her laugh when it’s soft and light and then also when it’s too loud and sudden and she sometimes looks as though it’s caught her by surprise. He falls in love with her messy braid and the feathers in it, her awful-sounding Abyssal and the way it makes their tutors cringe, her insistence on keeping both a pet bear and a table full of cosmetics, the both of which she learns to wield and treasure for how they keep her safe and happy.
Vex, on the other hand, feels only a grudging sort of friendship. Sure, Percy’s alright. He’s clever enough and polite and stopped trying to lock her and Vax out of his rooms years ago (for all the good it ever did him when Vax was more than happy to pick said locks). And Vex knows she’s going to marry him one day, and that will be fine, but she doesn’t expect him to have grown to tall over a year. She doesn’t expect him to have a jawline she can see her lips following or eyes that beg to go darker with passion, and she certainly doesn’t expect his familiar wry grin to punch the breath from her chest when it’s directed at her now. He shows her the siege arrows he’s made (”They’re much more powerful than the exploding ones, you see. You’ll have to test them, but I’ve also had an idea for something like a grappling arrow that I’d like to try if you’re willing to give me some input.”) and Vex remembers the things he’s made and done for her and all the times she never thanked him and he never seemed to mind, and oh. Well. There’s an idea. Perhaps he loves her, and Vex finds herself a little in love with the thought.

The last thought I’ve had is angst-ridden and only half-formed, but it begins with the Briarwoods deciding to marry off the surviving de Rolos instead of Percy escaping, and he gets shipped to Syngorn. Vex is determined to hate him, just like everything Syldor has ever brought into their lives, but he’s so damn fragile when he arrives, and Vex has never been able to walk away from broken things. He’s her husband, yes, but Vex does a lot more of being his only friend than being a wife, and Percy slowly opens up. The twins are not nearly as bad as he’d dreaded and it’s certainly better than staying trapped in his old home, shadowed by monsters and wraiths, or chained in the dungeon and left to Anna’s tender mercies. He behaves because of Cassandra, but she is also why he never can quite enjoy his new life. Vex catches him, eventually, in a moment where he seems to be truly happy for once - and a breath-taking sight that is, when he’s creating and thinking, beautifully vibrant and casually sharp-tongued - just before he catches himself out and remembers to be quietly miserable.
“Tell me what you’re thinking about when you do that,” Vex insists. “What is it that always makes you force yourself to look guilty for enjoying things.”
Percy tells her, in halting, almost forgotten and definitely avoidant sentences, about his home and the people who took it from him, about the sister he left behind and why he’s never on anything less than his best behavior. Because if word ever gets back that he isn’t, it will be on Cassandra’s head.
“Well,” Vex says, after she’s swallowed down the impulse to simply hold Percy as close and as tightly as she can. “Let’s go get Vax. If we have to go liberate our city, we’ll need him.”
“You don’t have to get involved,” Percy tries. “It’s my problem, not yours.”
“By law, it’s half mine,” Vex says, flippant in the way she knows gets across how serious she really is. “The problems and all. That’s marriage, darling.”
It’s the first time Percy says he loves her, so quietly any human wouldn’t have caught it, but luckily, Vex is half elf.

Okay, I REALLY need some positivity after that episode. We didn't get any Fitzsimmons fitzsimmonsing, I don't even think they talked to each other... And what in the world was that ending??? How are we supposed to wait a whole year to figure out? I'm also scared for what season 5 will be like... What if they mess it up? Ugh. This does not look good. I'm losing all hope and faith in this show. Any positivity would be great! Thanks!!!

Okay Anon, let me see what I can do here for you.

Was that the ending we wanted or even that they built up to all season when is comes to Fitzsimmons.  To many in the fandom it wasn’t enough, but to the writers it was.   “Their’s is a forever love” and “They will only ever love each other” was the pay off they were building up too.  I think they underestimated the toll that the Framework Arc and lack of time together all season was going to take on the fandom.

That scene in the pod is so profound and so epic that it shall live in infamy as one of the best scenes of the series…and no words were even spoken.  Simple touches enough to convey a thousand words.

And speaking of payoff…we did get THIS.  Jemma getting a chance to unload a ton of bullets into Fitz’s kidnapper/tormentor.  Honestly it was a scene I wanted so bad and I didn’t think we’d get.  AND Jemma got a go at Fitz’s horrible father!  She got not one but two of his tormentors!  That’s our girl, no one messes with her man.

We did get Fitzsimmons Fitzsimmonsing a little bit, no not bickering in the lab but we got the fake out parallel from Season 2 with Fury’s tool box on steroids.  They tricked the crazy, intelligent, evil infused former Android and baited her right into the trap that lead to her defeat!.  Fitz got to use the LMD how he intended it for, to protect Jemma.  Allowing AIDA to attack and think she’d killed the real Jemma.  Thus the LMD protected her just as Fitz had intended.  And Fitz got a bit of poetic justice in being able to use her own tech/creation against AIDA.

I also see that scene with Coulson on the Zephyr where he said I know you guys have a lot to talk about but now they have to deal with AIDA as almost the writers way of acknowledging that as well.  They were saying yes, there has been trauma, they do need to talk, but we don’t have time right now.   And its true, they didn’t really.   The bright side is they are going to do what the fandom wants and have Fitzsimmons working through the trauma of the Framework over a period of time and together.

I know some of you will outright deck me for bringing out a Jed Quote right now but I’m going too from the IGN Post Mortem.

IGN: I want to talk a bit about Fitz and Simmons. You’ve put them through the wringer over the past couple seasons, and my working theory is it’s because Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Simmons always deliver such fantastic performances of those traumatizing events. Considering what they’ve gone through this year, are you considering them as a couple who will remain rocks for each other, or are you still planning to throw a bunch more terrible things at them?

Whedon: First of all, it’s the nature of the world. I think even this year with the flashbacks of May and Coulson and the rules we’ve stated through many seasons, that there are rules about agents not getting together for this very reason. Your love will be tested. That’s sort of the nature of the business. I think it’s safe to say from these past two episodes that they love each other and won’t love anyone else, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll be able to repair their relationship and all that pain in between. One would hope that they could because everybody roots for FitzSimmons and the fans do and we do. We love the two actors, and so I think that seeing them together is a reward that the audience deserves, but how that happens, we’ll have to wait and see if it does.

That hopefully will be what we see happen in Season 5.  Fitzsimmons healing together and dealing whatever the crap has happened that has landed them in space.  They were so close to getting out, Shield was out of the Shadows, things were going well, and we had ourselves a Love nest with a breakfast nook…and it was ripped away.  Ripped away from them and ripped away from us.  That is the nature of shows like this. Until they are ready to give us the happily ever after, its give an take.

Ghost Rider was an add on but LMD and Framework were the arcs they intended all along.  The writers knew even back at SDCC this is where things were going.   They teased Darth Fitz back then…”This young man as you’ve never seen them before”.  Ending with Fitz needing to heal was likely the intention all along as well.   I think it was just unfortunate that they continued to give us those bits like “Oh the engagement/wedding will come up again”…it will…just not THIS season.  Its about NEXT season as they come back together personally and professionally.  They should have gone with their standard wait and see rather than put some false hope out there.  Again I think the very much underestimated the toll the Framework Arc took on the Fitzsimmons fandom.   This season they established that they love each other and no job change or memory wiping androids can change that.

Another positive we got was as painful as it was to not have Fitzsimmons together how we’d envisioned we did get to see them both grow substantially in their own stories.  Good, bad, right or wrong, that is something I have seen the fandom want.   They wanted to see each of them with arcs outside of their relationship.  Was it perfect, no, they could have given them the separate stories but still had them come together more…heck be in the same room more.  But hindsight is golden and makes me treasure those moments we did get even more.

The episode was good, it wrapped a lot of stuff up nicely but also left far more questions.  They ran out of time.  We knew it when we were still in the Framework going into 20 that there wasn’t going to be enough real estate left to cover what they had put out there.  I spoke in previous metas as to this is where we felt the bit Ghost Rider took out of the time.   Fitzsimmons weren’t the only ones that didn’t get a really good tie it in a bow resolution.  They resolved what they absolutely had too.  AIDA, Darkhold, Robbie/Rider, and Radcliffe…and set up next season.  Daisy, Robbie, and Philinda also had their arcs suffer a bit at the end (and Philinda took a step back ala Fitzsimmons start over in 3x11).  Sadly that happens and for me 4x21 was the Fitzsimmons resolution for the season and then we will pick back up with them again in season 5.

The writers know the fandom is upset, they know they dropped the ball.   I really do think they thought what we had in 21 was that payoff the fandom was looking for and planned on continuing this next season as this is not where their story ends.  They didn’t break up.  This wasn’t a deal breaker.  It was another roadblock and one only puts roadblocks in the way of something they want/plan to get too.   We can offer our polite feedback and support for the show and characters we love so much.

Now the best news of all Anon is we have a fandom full of absolutely amazing writers that are already hard at work on fix it, missing scene, AU, and this is how it SHOULD have happened fics.   We will have a whole hiatus of recovery fic fest 2K17…now in SPACE.

Speaking of space, they have essentially been kidnapped by some mysterious rogue organization that seems intent for them to work for them.  At least they’ve been kidnapped together this time and will likely be working and sciencing together until they can find a way to get out of they are get to Perthshire.   A united goal!  And who doesn’t love sassy sciencing barely tolerant of their captor/new employer Fitzsimmons.

Its okay to be mad, upset, and disappointed right now.  Nothing wrong with that at all.  I’m there, last night I was feeling a bit betrayed by the writers until I was able to take a step back and take a breath, look at the longer game…and we are in a long game here as we are ENDGAME.  Until then…bring on the fics!

3. Wingman // Klance

« {Part 3 of my Valentine’s collection.} »

The space bar was exactly what Keith would have expected a space bar to look like. He almost expected the Star Wars cantina song to start playing.

“Dude! Check out that giant keg thing! Oh my god, I’m going to get space-wasted!” Lance said, shifting from foot to foot in excitement. “Do they have legal drinking ages here in space? Shit, I don’t have a space-ID—”

“I’m sure it’s fine,” Hunk said. “Look—they’re not even asking for ID. It looks like… self-serve?”

He pointed at where some short alien people were serving themselves cups of electric green liquid from the “keg thing” Lance had noticed earlier. The aliens put coins into a slot and then pressed a button to fill their cups.

“Let’s just get some of it before Shiro and Allura notice we’re gone,” Pidge said. “I really don’t want to get another lecture about responsibility.”

“Psh. They’re still at that space movie theater. We’re free for the next couple hours for sure,” Lance said. He sidled up next to Keith, slinging an arm over his shoulder. “So, what do you say—should we get completely shit-faced?”

Keith rolled his eyes. “You’re ridiculous.”

“Hey, you didn’t have to come along,” Lance said, poking a finger at Keith’s chest. Then he turned to Hunk. “Hey, Hunk—be my wingman for tonight? There have to be some pretty alien ladies in this bar.”

“Uh,” Hunk said. He shot a quick glance at Keith and then looked back at Lance. “Not tonight, man. Sorry. Pidge and I were going to…”

“We were going to play space foosball,” Pidge said quickly. “I thought I saw it when we came in, so….”

“Yeah,” Hunk agreed. “We’re going to do that.”

“Well, damn,” Lance said. He looked back at Keith. “Well, it looks like you’re going to have to be my wingman tonight, Keith. You up for it?”

Over Lance’s shoulder, Hunk and Pidge gave Keith a pitying look. He sighed. “Sure, I guess,” he said. “Why not?”

Why not wingman for Lance? Why not wingman for the guy he might sort of actually like in a not-so-platonic way?

This wasn’t going to end well.

Hey there, I was wondering if you could explain how the interactions between Lena and Kara are "implicitly romantic and/or sexual"? I'm not trying to be confrontational but I don't see their interactions that way (to me they seem like close friends who happen to have a lot of chemistry) and I was curious about how you see it?

Sure, I’d be happy to explain ! And I’m tagging @detectivdimples and @putitonthevideopanel cause you two joined the discussion, so if you feel like reading this long ass post you’ll see where I come from with the romantic Supercorp.

I talked about implicit romantic and/or sexual interactions in the post because I was talking about queer baiting in general terms. For Supercorp in particular, I don’t necessarily see sexual tension between Kara and Lena (maybe details here and there, but that’s it). It’s more about romantic interactions between them. Oh gosh I have to stop rambling and go straight to my point ! Ok let’s do it. Stick with me, cause it’s gonna be a long post.

The show was on S2 hiatus when I started to watch it, so everyone had already discovered Lena and a lot of people were already talking about Supercorp. At first I thought I was biased because of that, but people had also talked about Kara/Lucy and Kara/Cat in S1 and I have actually never seen anything romantic between them. When I watched 2x01 I saw nothing romantic between Kara and Lena, just the beginning of a pleasant friendship. But it started in 2x03.

When Kara visits Lena, there’s this awkwardness between them, not much with Lena, but more on Kara’s side. Lena is relaxed, but Kara doesn’t know if she can sit or not, she doesn’t dare asking for it so Lena is the one ultimately inviting her to sit. Of course Kara is a very new reporter so that might be why she’s acting this way and seems so shy (something she’s not usually, she’s often awkward when people compliment her for example but she’s not shy, quite the opposite). There’s also the “protocole” because Kara comes to interview Lena, who’s a powerful business woman, so she has to be polite. But still. Kara shows the exact behavior of someone impressed. Not everyone reacts the same way, but I can be that awkward with people I have a crush on. In that same scene, Lena has a very playful and teasing smile when she orders invites Kara to try this awful thing that can detect aliens. This attitude is actually pretty ambiguous. I could call it flirty with this smile if the situation wasn’t what it is : Lena is relaxed and at ease, which doesn’t reveal any fear or distrust, but she seems to have suspicions about Kara because she really wants her to take the test. It’s like she doesn’t feel threatened at all but she knows Kara is Supergirl and she wants a proof. So idk about this particular part of this scene, it’s really disturbing and bothering. I think this scene is not the best one, it’s so tinted by Kara’s secret and probably too soon in their relationship, whether we see it as platonic or romantic.

At the end of this same episode, Kara visits Lena again. They have a conversation (Lena is pretty flirty when she leans on the sofa)

and Lena talks about very personal stuff, she tells Kara she was crushed when she discovered who really was her brother, etc… These are things she could say to a friend. But what I see as the beginning of a romance (or a crush, no matter how you wanna call it) is this line : “Finally I realized that some people are just bad. There’s nothing you can do to change that. But you can learn to protect yourself.” and at the exact moment she says protect yourself she looks away while she had been looking Kara right in the eyes for the past seconds. It’s like she actually wants to protect herself in this precise moment, which makes sense, because she’s talking about her past, her family, her feelings towards them, something she probably rarely does. She’s been disappointed by people she loves : her brother, her mother. She cares for Kara and is probably starting to develop feelings for her (platonic or romantic, doesn’t matter) so she’s afraid she might be disappointed once more if she bonds to Kara. After a quick confession, she does protect herself in this moment. And if she tells all these things to Kara and shares her past, it means she wants Kara in her life. As a friend ? As a lover ? We don’t know yet. But right after this part of the scene, Kara looks away as well, she’s embarrassed because Lena is talking about personal stuff. And then Lena has this bittersweet smile and this time, she doesn’t shy away : they share a smile, Kara turns her head down, Lena lowers her eyes at the same time, and then Kara keeps her eyes down, but Lena gets hers back to Kara’s face and she stares right at her without losing her smile.

Another scene, 2x04 this time. Kara rushes into Lena’s office unannounced. Anyone would be at least a bit mad and upset. But Lena just tells her employee to make sure Kara can visit whenever she wants to. imo Lena’s whipped af ahah, but ok, let’s admit this is only friendship. When she gives Kara the paper with the fight club address, she holds it for a second while looking Kara into the eyes. She’s a bit playful and almost teasing. Right before the camera goes to Kara, we see a smirk growing on Lena’s face. The whole thing is so flirty tbh.

Now 2x05. Lena invites Kara to her party. Really nice of her ! And clearly something she would be with a friend (most particularly since Kara is her only friend). But doesn’t she have a phone ? Lena is a business woman, she’s busy, the easiest would have been to call Kara. Instead, she takes time to come to CatCo and invites Kara herself. Um… seems like someone is whipped and wanted to see her crush. So Lena tells Kara she hopes her to come and man hell shows up like ‘hey dudes I wanna come too’ and Kara shuts him down right away. You might think it’s not a proof she really really likes Lena and doesn’t want man hell around when she’s with her, because at that time she was trying to prevent him from causing trouble (and what better place than a party for causing trouble), so I’m gonna admit that and move on. Lena tells Kara it would mean a lot to her if she was here, but before she does, she hesitates for a second, she bites her lip and lowers her eyes.

What kind of friend would do that ? Why does she suddenly look so shy but also ecstatic at the same time ? Plus, she starts talking and says “It would mean a lot to me *looks back at Kara’s face* if you were there.”. The moment her eyes go back to Kara’s face is actually important, because it’s once she’s expressed the way she feels (it would mean a lot to her) that she dares look back at Kara. She’s uncomfortable with looking Kara in the eyes while telling her how important it is for her that she comes. And then, there is man hell. Ironically, he plays a big part in this scene. He asks if he can come and Kara immediately says no. Lena hesitates, she undoubtedly feels some discontent on Kara’s side, she checks her face probably to try to figure out what’s going on, and she eventually says man hell can come. Her voice tone is light, she seems to be okay and even happy to invite him. But once she sees Kara’s head going down, she realizes she’s upset and understands she didn’t want him to join, and her behavior goes from white to black. She seems less assured when she asks man hell what’s his name. She then gets back to her usual composure and assurance, but that’s her first spontaneous reaction that matters : she sees Kara doesn’t want man hell to come, she realizes she read her wrong and made a mistake by inviting him, she wants to withdraw but it’s too late, so she instinctively adopts a more distant attitude with him, before trying her best to act as relaxed as usual. She kindly makes fun of him and then leaves. And how does Kara act ? She’s ill-at-ease because of man hell silliness and the ‘Mike of the interns” thing, she tries to play it cool and to force a smile, but she’s embarrassed and mad at him. But as soon as Lena leaves, she lets her frustration goes out an grab this stupid candy.

2x05 again. Lena meets Alex for the first time. Well, they’ve already met each other but this time it’s a different context. When Kara opens the door and she lets her in, Lena is her usual self : she’s polite, composed, relaxed. But as soon as she sees Alex, her behavior flips. She acts like Alex is an intruder. She tries to play it cool but she clearly can’t and she’s very bitter when she says “you saved my life” as a thank you.

(you’re not fooling anyone Lena) Also, look at Kara on the back (you don’t see her on this gif but you can easily find the video on youtube), because it’s important : she was taken by surprise when Lena showed up, you can tell her smile is a bit forced, but she got this and she seems more or less confident ; but look at her face as soon as she sees Lena’s reaction. She suddenly loses her confidence and seems worried. She understands Lena is misinterpreting the situation so she quickly explains by saying Alex is her sister. I don’t think she’s scared Lena might understand she’s Supergirl based on the fact she knows Alex, there is literally nothing that points out to that on this scene. So imo she’s just worried Lena would be jealous and she wants to fix things even before there’s any drama. As soon as Kara tells her Alex is her sister, Lena calms down, and then, Kara seems more at ease because she knows there’s no misunderstanding.

Let’s jump to 2x08 now, shall we ? The real Hank Henshaw attacks L Corp. Supergirl/Kara is fighting him and Lena rushes into the hall. She has already interacted and talked with Supergirl, she knows her, and first thing she sees is Supergirl getting knocked on the floor. She’s afraid because the building is attacked and the assaillant is strong enough to put Supergirl down, but you can also see the concern and the shock on her face. At first she’s afraid for herself, but then she’s afraid for Supergirl too, maybe even only for her. If Lena ever discovers the truth about Kara and Supergirl, I think she will find out because she feels the same towards both of them (whether you see it as platonic or romantic, once more).

The scene in this same episode where Supergirl asks for Lena’s help to find her mother speaks for itself. I think I have nothing to say : it shows how much they care for each other (platonic or romantic, once and for all). The only thing I have to say is Lena might not have reacted so sharply if someone else had told her her mother was evil…

And now 2x12 with, in my opinion, the most obvious evidence.  The last Supercorp scene has some blatantly romantic aspects for me, but I’ll get to it later. For now, let’s talk about the scene where Lena gets arrested. I’m lazy so I’m just gonna link the post I reblogged and you can read the tags to know how I feel about Lena’s reaction. As for Kara, she once more wants to understand and to protect Lena. She might be her friend, but it’s a little too much for ‘just friends’ imo. In this episode she’s going against literally everyone : her friends (even if it’s been pretty conflicted lately) ; J’onn, who’s clairvoyant most of the time, probably because he’s psychic (why didn’t he read Lena’s mind btw ? I can’t remember if they talked about that) ; Alex, her own sister, that she loves and trusts. She’s going against everybody. I know James says Clark acted the same way with Lex, but still. She seems to care too deeply to see Lena as a simple friend.

When Supergirl saves Lena from her mother, Lena’s first instinct is to protect her. I know she’s a good person, but still. She’s ready to physically interfere in the fight that’s about to start even if she knows she’s just a tiny human being with no super powers.

And last but not least : the last scene from 2x12. I’m linking you a post once again and I’m gonna add some stuff. Lena is teasing Kara for most of the scene. When she says she never had friends like Kara before, she stutters on the word friend, it seems like she’s not sure it’s the good word. Two options : she has considered Kara as her friend for a long time but now it’s deeper and it takes a new signification even if it’s still in a platonic way, or she’s not sure this word still suits the way she feels about Kara because her feelings have changed. I think the second option is the good one, because right after she uses the word family. This is not insignificant. She might mean that Kara is like a sister to her, or it might be something else… some people consider their lover as a member of their family, it’s pretty common, so family could also have this meaning here. But once again, the thing that makes me think Lena means it in a romantic way is her attitude : she says she’s never had family like Kara, and then she lowers her eyes and her face says “oh shit I might have just realized something” or maybe “oops I shouldn’t have said that, Kara’s gonna freak out”.

As I’ve said several times in this post, most of the things I pointed out can be seen as romantic or platonic. The reason why I now say this is queer baiting is this last scene in episode 12.

Now here are the major reasons why I said it was queer baiting :
- Lips biting is something people do when they’re anxious or… it can be done in a seductive way ! Lena showed multiple times she was relaxed in Kara’s presence, she’s not impressed or intimidated. So the lip biting is more in a seductive way imo.
- Lena’s heart eyes for Kara… her gayness hurt me sometimes ! Her eyes are burning with passion in some scenes.
- And the MOST obvious of all : the flowers. In the last Supercorp scene from 2x12, we discover Lena sent enough flowers to overflow Kara’s office. That is typically the kind of thing [insert male western name] would do to seduce [insert female western name] in a romantic movie. The writers didn’t use any ‘thank you’ they precisely picked the flowers, which has a very strong romantic connotation.

Most of the time the romantic aspects come from Lena, so maybe feelings are not reciprocal, maybe Lena is supposed, according to the scripts, to feel things Kara doesn’t necessarily share. Or maybe Katie just can’t help it ahah ! I know there are some tiny little details that come from her acting, it wouldn’t be on a script, it comes from her (for example the way she looks at Melissa/Kara sometimes). But there are other things, like the flowers, that are written on the script, it’s not a choice from the actresses to play the scene this way or that way, the writers made this decision.

I know we all have our own point of view, independently from sexual orientation, gender identity, or anything else, and if people don’t see and interpret things the way I do, that’s fine. I see some of Supercorp interactions as romantic, some don’t, it’s okay, I respect that. Plus, I ship Swan Queen, so I think it’s my fate to ship non canon couples ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Alright, so, if you’ve ever wondered what happens after you send your resume off to a potential employer, here’s what I can tell you. But keep in mind, this is just based on my own experiences. Other people probably do things differently.

Here’s the basics. Whatever job you’re applying for, you should know you’re not the only person applying. Probably a lot of people are. That means two things: 1. They’re probably skimming. 2. You have no idea what might make you stand out.

Every time I’ve ever helped hire for a job, there were loads of qualified applicants. Which means the first thing you do is try to find your no’s, the people you can weed out. For me, I ask, do I want to interview this person. The answer choices are yes, no, and maybe.

On that note, make sure you always, always follow the instructions on the job posting. If you don’t, there’s a decent chance you’ll get tossed in a no pile. If they ask for a resume and a cover letter, send both. If they ask for salary requirements, send them. Don’t give them a reason to rule you out right off the bat.

Similarly, proofread. If they’re skimming, and one of the three things they notice is a mistake, that doesn’t bode well for you. At an absolute minimum, make sure you haven’t done something particularly silly, like send them a letter with the wrong company name in the title, or the wrong job referenced, or notes to yourself about things you still need to add. You’d be surprised how often this happens.

When it comes to resumes, formatting matters. But not like you think. Don’t get bogged down on how pretty the style is. They aren’t going to. But they’ll probably notice if your columns are all janky. Basically, don’t send them something that looks half-assed, because no one wants a half-assed employee. But beyond that, don’t kill yourself over the style. I’ve seen a lot of resumes. I’ve never seen two that looked the same. There’s no magical right way to do it. And it’s the content that matters the most.

So, content. I think everyone looks at this stuff differently. I’ve worked at places that used rubrics, to try to guide people, and get everyone on the same page. I’ve had bosses who go straight to the work history. If they don’t like what they see, they’re not going to bother with any of the rest of it. Personally, I skim the cover letter first, and then look at the work history, to see how it connects. That’s often an issue. If you talk about something in your cover letter, I should be able to find that experience on your resume. If your cover letter mentions that you have a long history working with kids, but your resume doesn’t include a single thing related to working with kids, I’m going to assume “long history working with kids” = “has a sibling” and move on.

The best resume I saw (in my opinion) had skills and qualifications up top, and used it well. If you’re going to do that, make sure (again, imo) there’s a straight line connecting it to your job history and your cover letter. If you’re going to list “self-motivated” as an attribute, make sure that’s demonstrated in you work history. Talk about how you, as a freelance artist, have to seek out those commissions, set your own hours, and meet those deadlines, and you’re the only person holding yourself accountable. If you’re going to list “team-player” as a qualification, talk about being on the volleyball team, and recognizing that you succeed and fail as a unit, that the team is bigger than any individual player (I don’t know that it’s the norm to list sports on a resume, but certainly if you don’t have any work history, or it’s pretty slim, you should have at it. I had a boss who loved hiring team-sport athletes, specifically because he thought they understood the value of teamwork.).Highlights in the resume, depth in the cover letter. That’s what I liked, anyway. Also, if there’s no depth, it just sounds like buzzword bingo. It’s good to have initiative, to be a hardworker, and to be a team player. But no one is going to believe you unless you can actually demonstrate it.

Which reminds me, take some time to think about the things you’ve done in your life that have actually changed you, given you skills, made you a better, or more productive, or more capable person. One of the most formative experiences in my life was an epic failure, but I learned how to handle stress, how to prioritize an eight hour day with twelve hours of work in it. I can apply that to any situation. So whatever it is that has made you you, don’t be afraid to use that. You have no idea what is going to stand out to a potential employer. You may think there’s nothing much to talk about when it comes to being a freelance artist, or volleyball player, or whatever, but I see a wealth of positive attributes.

But beyond that, knowing the job I was hiring for, I would have been all over a freelance artist, or someone who was a writer, because it doesn’t pay a ton, but there’s a lot of down time. So, someone super qualified with lots of experience would probably leave fairly quickly in search of higher pay, but someone who’d really benefit from getting paid to sit at a desk and answer a phone every half hour or so with nothing else do, someone who’d love to fill all that down time with their own projects, now they might stay a long time. That might be a great symbiotic relationship. A guaranteed salary and a chance to work on commissions  or a novel, or whatever while at work is a great deal, for the right person.

My point is, don’t count yourself out before you’ve even tried, I once got a job because one of the schools listed on my resume was in Ireland, and the person I handed it to thought that was cool. I walked in off the street, handed them my resume, chatted for ten minutes, had an interview the next week, and a job the day after.

Which leads me to my last piece of advice. When you’re applying for jobs, think shotgun, not sniper rifle. Apply to so many things you don’t even have the option to take it personally if you don’t get called back, because you don’t even remember you applied there. Applying for one job can talk a long time. But every one after that is a steal. Spend some time writing a good resume and a good cover letter that could be tailored just slightly to apply to most jobs. Proofread, read them aloud you yourself, have people you trust read them. Save them. Then, for every job posting you see, save as CoverLetter2017.01.17 (or whatever system you want to use). Tailor the job title, etc. If there are particular professions you want to work in, create specific cover letters and resumes (i.e. if you want to work at a preschool, have one that highlights your experience working at the YMCA, but if you want to work at a dental clinic, have one that highlights office experience; if you’re applying in multiple fields, have multiple tailored resumes.).

I’ve mostly worked general sorts of jobs, that most people can probably do. I suspect if you’re chemical engineer, it’s probably a very different deal. But if you’re just like, damn I really need a job so I can pay my rent, all of that word vomit up there is the best I can offer you by way of advice.

Oh, and also, get an e-mail address that looks professional. john.smith@gmail.com and mrwizard227@gmail.com create two very different impressions. (Note: I made those up. Apologies to anyone who happens to have those e-mail address. No offense was intended.)

If anyone has any questions, feel free to shoot them over. I can’t promise I’ll have a good answer, but I promise to try.

The whole James Roberts/Megatron controversy is wayyy overblown and people are treating James Roberts like he’s writing Megatron as if he never did anything wrong but let’s not forget the following points:

drimeth-of-bag-end  asked:

Hi there! I saw your post about males being witches and that it is gender neutral. Would you be able to elaborate (probably bad phrasing but can't think of better) on that for me, as I always thought that witch was for female magic users and warlock or wizard was for males. I don't want to upset anyone or be a dick by insisting wrong information.

EDIT

This post came off as super harsh, and it wasn’t directed at you @drimeth-of-bag-end, I promise! I am sorry if it seemed like I was belittling you or getting mad at you for asking this question, because I was not. It is just a very personal issue to me, and I get really invested in stuff like this, and just got way too… I can’t think of the word. But I was not mad at you, was not accusing you of anything, and I’m sorry if this post felt like an attack toward you, it wasn’t meant to be one. I just took the question as an opportunity to get this all out, and oh boy has it been needing to apparently. I hope you understand where I am coming from, and I hope I didn’t offend.

I don’t know what you mean by elaborate. Witch is gender neutral, and always has been. Only in more recent times (16th century) has the word been used to describe a female practitioner of any kind of magic; not to mention, the use of it being extremely geared towards women magic users in pop culture and modern media has not helped in any way.

Let’s start by saying that a lot of people are confused about the origin of the word to begin with - there are many possible ways it can be derived from a lot of old language, from all over the world.

When you look at [the history of the word], you see that it can be seen to derive from Old English - wicca /ˈwɪttʃɑː/ “sorcerer, male witch” and wicce /ˈwɪttʃeɪ/ “sorceress, female witch”. So, right there, inherent in the word “witch” is more than just “female,” more than one gender. When you look past that (because yes, still only two genders, but old language can be awful like that), the majority of the other origins have nothing to do with any gender at all

Not to mention, there is no solid origin as I’m sure you can see, which to me means there is no solid definition. We can’t accurate say where the word came from, so who are we to really say that there is only one way to use the word when we can’t even pin its origins down?

NOT TO MENTION AGAIN. When you look at language in general, saying a word is “masculine” or “feminine” [doesn’t actually have anything to do with gender]. It is a way to classify words based off grammatical characteristics, like how the last syllable is pronounced (hard, soft, neutral, etc.). So, just because a word has an origin word that was feminine, doesn’t mean it was used to describe the actual gender of the people. So, is it not possible that the terms “wicca” and “wicce” were given gender characteristics based solely on their grammatical characteristics, and had nothing to do with the actual genders of the people they were being used to dictate?

[Another page] states: “[…] the earliest recorded form of witch is Old Engl. wicca (masculine) “man practicing witchcraft”; it first occurred in the Laws of Alfric (890). The feminine wicce surfaced in the year 1000.” Yep, so the term “Wicca” originated from a masculine term. I wonder how that makes Dianic Wiccans feel.

[Long story short]:

“The word “witch” derives from the Old English words “wicca” and “wicce” (masculine and feminine forms, respectively).  This later became “wicche”, in Middle English, which meant the same thing as “wicca” and “wicce”, but didn’t distinguish between the genders, being used to refer to both men and women.  However, over time, using “wicche” to refer to men became less and less common, being replaced by synonyms such as “wizard”, “warlock”, and “sorcerer”.

“By the 16th century, the spelling had changed from “wicche” to “witch” and, by this time, the word was almost exclusively used to refer to women, as it still is today.  However, in the Wiccan religion, it is now once again somewhat common to use “witch” to refer to both men and women.”

[…]

“The origin of the words “wicca” and “wicce” isn’t entirely known, but it is thought the words themselves originally meant “wise one”, with the earliest references to these words in Old English always seeming to be associated with fortune telling and “teaching”, based on that foreknowledge.”

So how can anyone tell me the term “witch” is exclusive to women? Some of the origins of the term itself have both feminine and masculine counterparts which then delved off to be gender neutral (but fell out of use because it wasn’t used as often); while other origins don’t even talk about gender or people at all.

Uses of a word change over time all the time - GREAT EXAMPLE, look at [the modern definition of “literally”] (because of how people use it for exaggerated effect), and tell me that doesn’t piss you off. And then try to say that we can’t use “witch” to describe ANY magical practitioner, and confine it to only one gender, and an overdone stereotype that wasn’t even accurate (men practiced magic in the past as well, it isn’t a new concept).

I did so much research for this - I was not fucking around on this post. I have like 20 tabs open. And I have to go to work soon, so this is all I can do for this post, but I hope I’ve made my point.

You said you met Michael Lee Brown twice, how cool! Details?

Yes!! I did meet him!! He’s just….incredible. Like… Okay, here are the details. LONG BUT FULFILLING STORY TIME!!!

SO! I first met him when I saw the show in January. It was his first performance in the show on Broadway and he was filling in for Will Roland as Jared Kleinman (and he was RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING). After the show, I stagedoored. There were only about twenty other people–I mean it was literally a single row deep around those little fences–who waited out for the cast (again, I’ll remind y’all that this was in January. Before the cast album. Before the Tonys. Before any major press, really) so it was pretty barren and the entire cast–except for Rachel Bay Jones, who had to leave early to help her daughter with something, we were told–came out and actually had the time and space to have in-depth conversations and take pictures with everyone out there. I’M STILL FKING YELLING ABOUT THIS YALL AND IM NEVER GONNA STOP but I’m trying to keep it together deep breaths.

So! Michael Lee Brown came out and we all applauded for him (he had also gotten a special round of applause after the show ended because he deserved it) and he was just so sweet and humble. I got a picture with him (which I printed out and is currently hanging up in my room because it’s SO COOL KEEP IT TOGETHER) and talked a little bit. Mainly I just rambled on and on about how much I loved the musical while trying not to cry again and he thanked me about four hundred times (!!!!!!!!). BUT THEN! but then.

I went back home and completely fell in love with the show, back when there was only one fic for it one AO3, which I wrote, and the DEH tag on Tumblr was comprised of 3 posts. And I wrote him a letter, which said thank you about four hundred times as well, and sent him a little picture that I drew.

Then, I was incredibly lucky enough to see the show again in April (how???? that’s a whole different story and I don’t think I have the time or space here I’m still). And during intermission, I don’t know if they do this anymore, but Michael and Colton Ryan were hanging out in the audience; I think they were watching the show too. And I saw them and freaked the fck out and was just like That’s Them That’s Them That’s Them, because at this point I was beyond into this show and it was all so much more intimidating.

And I wasn’t going to bother them, because I was really really nervous about being annoying, like maybe they didn’t want to talk to anyone or whatever. Honestly, they blended in completely with the audience and no one else seemed to notice them. BUT THEN! This one girl, wearing a DEH t-shirt, came up to Colton and very very politely asked for his autograph. He smiled and agreed and signed her Playbill and started to talk to her, like, oh, have you seen the show before, what do you think etc. etc. etc.

So, I figured, that if she could do it, so could I, anxiety be damned!!!! ANXIETY BE DAMNED!!! So, I thought, I’ll just do the exact same thing she did and not be annoying because if I didn’t I would regret it forever and ever and ever and ever. SO! I went up to him and was like, “Hey, how are you?” And he looked at me for about 10 seconds and then said, “Were you here in January?” and I swear my heart stopped. Like??? He recognized me??? I’M STILL YELLING I AM BEYOND BLESS HIS HEART AND SOUL And I replied that, yes, I did go to that show, and that he was completely amazing as Jared in every single way. And he thanked me and asked what my name was. I gave it to him, and then he said, “Did you send me a letter?”

AND I DID! AND HE TALKED ABOUT THE LITTLE DRAWING TOO!!! HE SAID!!! “That was the first fan letter I’ve ever gotten, thank you!” And HUGGED ME??? he hugged me. I’ve been hugged by the one and only MLB and I’m still yelling! ?! I swear to God, Michael Lee Brown is such a good and incredible person, he is so kind and talented and wonderful in every way, and I still feel so beyond blessed. Like? AH

Then the bells rung, signaling that intermission was over, and I went back to my seat and… there’s my story of the two times I met the stunning, stunning person that is known as Michael Lee Brown (AHHHHHHH!!!!)

I realized that K doesn't really focus on any romantic relationships really like most animes do, like they focus on relationships as far as friends go but nothing OFFICIALLY romantic. So what do you think Gora did to drop hints at fushimi and yatas possibly being gay and into each other. Because like I said, they don't focus on that stuff really. Also there's a line in the LSW novel that says yata was relieved Saru didn't have a girlfriend because he would've been beaten to the punch. Thoughts?

The series doesn’t really focus much on romantic relationships, at least not in any explicit manner (which I personally rather like, no one in the cast is just there to be ‘the love interest’ which I think is a pitfall some shows fall into from time to time, and the series focuses on the whole idea of ‘bonds between people’ in general rather than going for any kind of 'okay but romantic bonds are the strongest bonds’ endgame). As for the hints about romance between Fushimi and Yata, honestly I see those in the same vein as things like Munakata’s personal space issues or Shiro calling Kuroh his wife – yes it is intentional, but not in the sense of 'we wanted to make these characters actually gay but can’t because of reasons.’ Like technically there really is no reason any of the cast couldn’t be explicitly gay – maybe they were worried about it affecting sales but it’s not like there aren’t anime out there with gay characters, and since K is an original work Gora can make the characters date whoever they damn well please. I think Fushimi and Yata are written intentionally in a way that could seem romantic because Gora is well aware that there is a significant portion of fans who want them to hook up, and that significant portion buys a lot of discs and merchandise and gives Gora money. And because Gora likes money they want the money to continue, so they’re not going to do anything like give Yata or Fushimi a canon girlfriend (outside of the otome game anyway, which is its own weird little thing) and they’re going to write things that make it sound like Yata and Fushimi are in fact totally gay for each other, and all the people making the official art are going to draw Fushimi and Yata in romantic poses because that’s what sells magazines. So I’d say that yes, I think those hints are intentional but I don’t think Fushimi and Yata are actually explicitly intended to be gay for each other – and if anyone asked Gora straight out I imagine they’d deflect and not answer – it’s mainly just exciting the fan base so they’ll buy more K things.

I'm asking this out of curiosity, how can you just let go of a ship like captain swan? you were a hardcore captain swan shipper and you were part of their journey from the very beginning and now you barely care about them if at all. it's just I don't know i thought you were staying till the end & would even have a hard time saying goodbye to them after the show ends. sorry if this came off as rude I'm totally just curious just cuz you were so invested for years now you don't care anymore

Well, honestly, I have discussed this subject before, and tried to be straight about it, and I’m sure you didn’t mean to be rude and are genuinely curious. Still, though, it’s a bit discouraging?

I’m still here. I’m still active on tumblr, I still reblog CS gifs fairly regularly, and I know what’s going on in the show, and I’m looking forward to the wedding. I’ve made several long posts on my process of stepping back from the show and why that happened. It’s certainly not that I just “let go” overnight. It’s been going on for almost a year, and it has not in the least been easy for me. CS got me back into fandom after a long time away. I don’t need to prove my bona fides as a shipper to anyone; I’ve shipped them since 2012, been on tumblr for them and an incredibly active and prolific fandom member since 2013, written multiple novel-length fics and countless drabbles for them (and am still working on TDH, which is my second-longest project EVER behind The North Remembers), answered thousands of questions, written just as many specs and metas and spoiler and roundup posts, went to my first ever con (way out of my comfort zone!) to meet Colin, and still have many dear friends who have changed my life. I don’t ever regret any of the time I did spend on them. I have loved them for a long time and I still care. I just am engaging with it differently, and I have had to do that for several reasons.

As noted, I was super invested during season 5. SUPER. It got to the place where I was thinking about it almost every waking moment, even as I was trying to adjust to a new city and country and degree study and the ups and downs that came with that. My mood was totally dictated by spoilers or theories or how people were reacting to them or how I was going to have to hold things together during an angsty time with all the people I had to comfort/talk through the pain of the Dark Ones/Underworld arc. It took a lot out of me, to be honest. I couldn’t even enjoy the show quite the same way because I was so dependent on it all working out and the effect this had on my ability to deal with things. I’ve always been honest about my years and years of anxiety and depression and what I’ve had to do with that, and the show was something for me to focus on and to try to get me out of my head (again, during an otherwise stressful year). Honestly, that level of addiction/dependence isn’t healthy for anything, especially what is, at the end of the day, just a TV show. The s5 finale burned me the hell out after all that pain with pretty much nothing to show for it, and I struggled over the summer with the thought that I was finally having to withdraw from it in bits and pieces. I watched 6x01, but… nope. That pretty much put the lid on it that I wasn’t prepared to go back at the same level again, and probably wouldn’t be.

As noted, and as anyone who has read my fics can attest, I have no problem with angst. I love angst, even long-term and complex angst. I love serious and dark and morally challenging stories, they are some of my favorites. But as I have also said, I do have a problem when that angst results, to my view, in no measurable story progress and the endless repetition of long-played-out character arcs. I just watched CS struggle to be together for all of season 5. I don’t want to watch more of Emma Has Walls or Killian Keeps Secrets Because He’s Guilty or Oh Look, They’re Separated and Will Die. It’s just… not interesting to me. So I still love them as a ship, but I’ve almost completely disengaged from wanting or expecting canon to provide any kind of satisfying or well-thought-through fulfillment for them. I’ve written tons and tons of fics (and novels). I write all the time. I analyze things for a living. I am an English tutor and a history teacher. I’m a storyteller. I have spent a long time with these characters and coming up with and thinking through what I want to see for them. That doesn’t mean I’m Better ™ than the writers, but it also means that any effort I put in feels like way more than they are, and that’s not a fun or stimulating way to engage with a fandom.

I don’t do hate-watching, and I certainly am not about to rain on the parade of people who do still love it as much as ever (which as I have said many times, I am happy for them). So it’s just better to focus on things that I DO actively enjoy and which I find rewarding and engaging. This year has been incredibly tough for me since about last November and the Orange Nazi’s election (and before that, really). I don’t need to put my limited and valuable free time into things that are just going to drain me or make me annoyed more than I already am. Fandom, once again and though it sometimes can be anything but, is supposed to be fun. And I am trying to space out my interests and have several different places to turn to for inspiration, rather than putting all my eggs in one basket. As noted, it’s just not healthy, and I have to take care with that.

As also noted, I was truly happy about the CS engagement and I will watch their wedding and probably reblog a lot of gifs from it. But I can look at said gifs and enjoy their cute moments and feel as if I’m getting what I need to, rather than having to slog through all of season 6. And honestly, if OUAT is losing people like me – a super, SUPER dedicated fan with years of investment and high-level commitment and fandom participation and creation – it doesn’t take too much guesswork to see that it’s probably losing regular viewers like crazy as well, and that’s why the ratings have taken a nosedive. I know I’m not alone, because I know a lot of fellow fandom people who just can’t muster up the same level of investment, and we’ve all paid our dues. We don’t have to “prove” anything or get caught in the inevitable “Who’s a Real/Better Fan” drama that just makes the whole cycle even more draining. We’re just engaging how we choose to, over a fictional narrative that has meant a ton to us, but has also changed, and we have as well.

So yeah. I still care. I am still a fan. But I think it’s important to remember, as always, that fandom is a FICTIONAL space, and that the people who engage in it are real, with all the hangups and changes of interest and needs and triggers and emotional reasons that go along with that, and we only interact with each other on a very limited basis through tumblr, which is obviously not face to face and where we curate the content we want to post/focus/present. It’s not objective, and it’s fun and amazing and collaborative, but it can also provide a somewhat limited perspective of who people are, what they’re doing, and why they decide to move on from something. So yeah, that’s where I am.

:)

Your sheith post about it possibly being canon I did read that the writers wanted to take Tim in building relationships and the story. Which I think is cool since a lot of shows rush into relationships without any build to it. Also I don't think it's queerbaiting since as far as I know the writers never said anything was going to canon I just think they like to show support.

hi! sorry this got a little long ;; so under the cut it goes:

A meeting of the Sans
  • sans1 has just created the room
  • sans2 has joined the room
  • sans1: hey sans.
  • sans2: hi sans.
  • sans1: any change over in your timeline?
  • sans2: eh. not really. the kid keeps botching his genocide run.
  • sans1: they still haven't given up on that, have they?
  • sans2: in a way. they always stop at my bro, thank god. speaking of, how is he on your end? you got a pacifist run, right?
  • sans1: yeah. he's studying for his permit. undyne is teaching him the ropes.
  • sans2: niiiiiice. what caught on fire this time?
  • sans3 has joined the room
  • sans1: nothing, but they did manage to destroy an old warehouse the other day. we've been told we're saving the city millions by letting them practice in destruction zones.
  • sans3: hey sans and sans. talking about papyrus?
  • sans1: hey, sans. yeah, post-pacifist and learning to drive from undyne.
  • sans3: nice. what caught on fire this time?
  • sans1: nothing.
  • sans3: really?
  • sans2: i know, i'm so proud of him.
  • sans3: hey sans. still on botched genocide?
  • sans2: yeah. hope the kid gives up soon, it's giving me a heart attack every time they approach papyrus.
  • sans3: yeah... god i miss him.
  • sans1: don't tell me. genocide?
  • sans3: the kid's taking a break from being dunked on.
  • sans2: how many times have you won?
  • sans3: 107. i know it's only a matter of time, but isn't that approaching the record?
  • sans1: dude, i think the record was 618.
  • sans4 has joined the room
  • sans3: oh man, really? so much for my record.
  • sans4: hey guys. dunking record?
  • sans3: yup. 107.
  • sans4: dude, nice.
  • sans3: oh, actually make that 108. brb
  • sans3 has left the room
  • sans2: christ how does he keep that up?
  • sans1: i hear the sanses in the genocide runs get numb a lot faster.
  • sans2: that's hard to believe for me. i still break into a cold sweat when my papyrus is facing the kid, and he always backs down in my timeline.
  • sans4: they're still at that?
  • sans2: yeah. can we move on to a lighter topic of conversation?
  • sans4: ah man sans, i didn't mean to rattle your bones or anything.
  • sans1: tibia honest, i didn't wanna make light of your situation.
  • sans2: heh. want me to pull papyrus in here? he'd hate this.
  • sans5 has joined the room
  • sans4: nah. he deserves a break every once in awhile.
  • sans5: hey guys. can't stay for long, about to head out. just wanted to check in.
  • sans1: hey sans. what's the rush?
  • sans5: date.
  • sans2: oooooooooh
  • sans1: oh oh oh oh
  • sans4: c'mon spill the beans man
  • sans5: heh, alright. post pacifist, toriel.
  • sans4: i can relate. i'm with toriel in my timeline, too.
  • sans5: how long?
  • sans4: about two years, now. first date on your end?
  • sans5: that obvious?
  • sans4: i can't even see you and i can tell you're rattling your bones.
  • sans2: wait, who's toriel?
  • sans1: the lady behind the door.
  • sans1: let's focus on what's important right now. namely, embarrassing sans before he goes on his first date.
  • sans5: wait. what.
  • sans4: i agree totally. hey sans, toriel really likes touching the rib cage. just saying.
  • sans5: oh
  • sans4: and watch it, she's a cuddler. like, you've seen how she hugs frisk? just wait until she gets her paws on you. like being wrapped in a thick, furry blanket.
  • sans5: oooooooooh
  • sans4: and if it goes well, she has this really cute dress that
  • sans5: i came here to have a good time and i'm honestly feeling so attacked right now
  • sans2: guys if i laugh any harder i'll wake papyrus up
  • sans4: alright alright. seriously though, she prefers white wine, she'll expect a kiss at the end but she'll be fine if you're too flustered, and avoid talking about asgore, unless you immediately turn it into a pun. her favorite is the "my aim is getting better" one. if she's comfortable enough to initiate that herself, you're golden. that help?
  • sans5: yeah. thanks.
  • sans4: also, she has this sweet spot right at her thigh. she'll make this adorable bleating/giggle and you know you've got the right spot.
  • sans5: okay wow it looks like time i should go
  • sans5 has left the room
  • sans4: he'll be fine.
  • sans1: so toriel, huh? weird.
  • sans4: why's that?
  • sans1: honestly, i can't see myself with anyone but mettaton.
  • sans4: oh my god, mettaton?
  • sans2: dude. dude. whoa.
  • sans1: what? what's wrong with that?
  • sans4: my papyrus is dating mettaton in my timeline.
  • sans1: your papyrus is in a relationship? mine's aro.
  • sans2: and meanwhile i'm sitting in a timeline where papyrus just has a huge crush on the rectangle.
  • sans6 has joined the room
  • sans1: that's just... bizarre.
  • sans2: and chatting with parallel timeline versions of yourself isn't?
  • sans1: point taken.
  • sans6: hey guys. what's up?
  • sans4: quick, who are you in a relationship with?
  • sans6: uh... gaster?
  • sans2: ...
  • sans4: uh, ew.
  • sans1: whoa.
  • sans6: hey man, don't kinkshame me bro.
  • sans4: dude, he's my dad in my timeline?
  • sans6: your dad? freaky.
  • sans2: oh you poor soul. he was just my lab partner in my timeline.
  • sans1: it's... weird for me.
  • sans4: okay, i'm really curious. how weird?
  • sans1: well, "gaster" is actually the name me and pap used to call ourselves before he split into us two.
  • sans6: oh yeah, i've met a sans like that.
  • sans2: i sure haven't. when does he get on?
  • sans6: time is relative, but i think early morning?
  • sans2: ah. that explains it.
  • sans4: yeah, the only reason i get out of bed in the mornings is because toriel practically drags me out on my feet.
  • sans2: papyrus does the same for me.
  • sans6: so... wait. does this mean, from a multiversal sense, i'm engaging in both incest and selfcest?
  • sans1: hey, this is a judgement free zone dude.
  • sans3 has joined the room
  • sans4: you're the one who said not to kinkshame you.
  • sans3: back. 108 now. man i walked into a weird conversation.
  • sans2: c'mon sans, we've had weirder.
  • sans6: wait, 108 what?
  • sans4: speak for yourself. i'm getting weird mental images with me and gaster, now.
  • sans3: dunks. end of genocide route.
  • sans2: hey, remember when amalgamate sans entered the chat?
  • sans4: okay, i'll admit that was weirder.
  • sans6: and really sad. i think that was the only time alphys ever joined the chat.
  • sans1: yeah. i wonder how they're doing?
  • sans6: amalgamate sans or alphys?
  • sans1: both.
  • Core Frisk has joined the room
  • sans6: well hopefully
  • sans2: wait who's this?
  • sans1: frisk? wait, what?
  • sans4: oh, hey frisk.
  • Core Frisk: Hello Sanses. Sorry, I'm not interrupting anything, am I?
  • sans6: uh. hey kid. this is a little hard to explain, but
  • Core Frisk: Don't bother. I'm not your Frisk, anyway.
  • sans4: yeah, he's a frisk that fell into the core and now he's kinda omniscient.
  • sans1: wait, what?
  • sans3: whoa.
  • sans6: and gaster was worried about nearly falling into the core.
  • sans1: he had every right to be.
  • Core Frisk: I just wanted to pop in and saying the particular sans amalgamate you were talking about a moment ago is doing fine, in a manner of speaking. He insists that he's happy so long as Papyrus is with him.
  • sans1: that's a relief, i guess.
  • Core Frisk: Oh, and Sans? The one who's been married to Toriel for two years?
  • sans4: yeah?
  • Core Frisk: Just a heads up, sans' first date went fine, but he's plotting a revenge prank on you.
  • sans4: wow kid, that's real cool of you to let me know.
  • Core Frisk: Don't thank me. He asked me to pull the prank myself. Undyne is going to be hunting for you to get her eyepatches back.
  • sans4: what.
  • Core Frisk: if you start running now, you may just get a head-start! :-)
  • sans4: ...
  • sans4 has left the room
  • sans3: that was ice cold, kid.
  • sans6: and amazing. teach me your ways, o master of pranks.
  • Core Frisk: Aw, well I did learn from the best. Namely, you. You're gonna teach me that one in a few months when I visit you.
  • sans6: niiiiiice.
  • sans2: hey, kid? you know all possibilities across all the timelines, right?
  • Core Frisk: Yes. Your Frisk will finally quit at the King Papyrus ending. It'll be lonely for him, but so long as you're with him, he'll be fine. You're a great second-hand man and an even better brother.
  • sans2: ...i gotta run, guys. i, uh... i gotta tell my bro i love him.
  • sans2 has left the room
  • sans3: oh, same here. kid's back for more. don't tell me if i end up beating the record, i wanna find out for myself.
  • sans3 has left the room
  • sans1: ...so, does he?
  • Core Frisk: Where would the fun be if I told you that?
  • sans1: fair enough. alright, i'd better head out. i need to go read papyrus his bedtime story.
  • sans6: and then have fun times with mettaton?
  • sans1: i'm ace.
  • sans6: oh.
  • sans1: ...i don't want to know what you do with gaster, do I?
  • Core Frisk: No, you really don't.
  • sans1: heh. alright, goodnight frisk. goodnight sans.
  • Core Frisk: Night, Sans!
  • sans6: night sans
  • sans1 has left the room
  • sans6 has left the room
  • sans7 has joined the room
  • sans7: i missed the chat again, didn't i?
  • Core Frisk: Yeah. Outertale, right?
  • sans7: ?
  • Core Frisk: Space?
  • sans7: oh. yeah. why?
  • Core Frisk: Well... I've always wanted to try out a jetpack.
  • sans7: you can jump across timelines, right?
  • Core Frisk: You HAVE met me, haven't you?
  • Core Frisk: That was a rhetorical question. I know that you've met me. Omniscient and all.
  • sans7: heh. get over here, i'll grab a pack for you.
  • Core Frisk: =D
  • Core Frisk has left the room
  • sans7 has left the room

okay but i saw a post where someone said that “john green writes about vulnerable 15 year old girls who need to be saved by a man” and like…have you ever actually picked up a john green book?

“fifteen year old girls”

  • Looking for Alaska: Leading lady Alaska Young, age 17, and supporting female character Lara Buterskaya, 17
  • An Abundance of Katherines: Important female characters Lindsey Lee Wells, 18, Katherine Carter, 18, and Katrina, 18
  • Paper Towns: Leading lady Margo Roth Spiegelman, 18, and important female character Lacey Pemberton, 18
  • Let It Snow: Leading lady The Duke/Angie, age undetermined but at least 16
  • Will Grayson, Will Grayson: All main characters are (mostly queer) males; supporting female character Jane Turner
  • The Fault in Our Stars: Leading lady Hazel Lancaster, age 16

“vulnerable”

  • LFA: Alaska Young, potentially bipolar, incredibly strong character who refuses help when she doesn’t need it, only shows vulnerability when she really trusts someone (because let’s face it, everyone’s vulnerable in some ways”
  • AOK: fuckin…Colin is more vulnerable than Katherine is tbh, and same with Lindsey. he depends on other people and their approval more than either of them. Lindsey, like Alaska, only shows vulnerability when she truly trusts someone, and that ends up being Colin (and partly Hassan). Lindsey talks about how her journey to popularity was all of her own making, something she did entirely by herself. She didn’t depend on anyone else for it.
  • PT: Margo actually addresses this claim specifically, when she tells Q that he only came after her “because you wanted to save poor little Margo from her troubled little self, so that I would be oh-so-thankful to my knight in shining armor that I would strip my clothes off and beg you to ravage my body.” She totally shoots down the idea that she needed Q’s help and that he could save her somehow.
  • LIS: this is the only one I could actually see an argument for, although the Duke makes it pretty clear that what she does and with whom is her business, and rejects the boys’ claims that they’re just worried about her well-being (which is bullshit)
  • WGWG: how the fuck would you think Jane is vulnerable she’s literally this impenetrable vessel of awesome who comes to her own conclusions about guys without any guy’s help
  • TFiOS: Hazel is only vulnerable in the physical sense, which, granted, is pretty drastic vulnerability, but this is never exploited for the purposes of the story or by Gus. He’s not going to save her, and they both know it.

“who need to be saved by a man” - i literally have no idea how anyone fucking thinks this

  • LFA: Alaska Young is a feminist. Alaska Young is a feminist. Alaska Young repeatedly calls out her male friends for objectifying women’s bodies, for having gender-specific double standards, and for treating women like they need to be saved. Alaska makes is very clear to Pudge that she does not need to be saved by him or by any man. She criticizes him for even having this idea and iterates that the only one who can “save her” is her.
  • AOK: I will grant that Lindsey Lee Wells does not do anything to change the shitty things in her situation until Hassan and Colin come along. But this is because of their friendship, not because they’re men and not because of romance. Having people from the outside take one look at her relationships and say “dude, this is fucked up” and ultimately (accidentally) reveal just how shitty her friends and boyfriend are was what finally made her realize how unhappy they made her. It wasn’t because Colin swooped in and made her realize these great injustices that were committed against her.
  • PT: Again, Margo directly addresses this when she accuses Q of only coming after her to get into her pants and be the hero. Furthermore, to say that it was only a man who went after her to help her is to ignore the whole premise of the entire last third of the book, which is about the camaraderie that comes with a group of friends working toward a goal and realizing the depth of those relationships. All four of them wanted to rescue Margo because they thought she was dead.
  • LIS: When the Duke confesses her feelings to Tobin, it’s of her own accord, because her own feelings were welling up and she couldn’t keep them in anymore. It wasn’t because of anything he did, for christ’s sake, it was because she wanted to. He himself had no bearing on that decision.
  • WGWG: Will Grayson #1 (the straight one) may have been the one who planted the seed of the idea that Jane’s boyfriend wasn’t good for her, but again, it was she who eventually decided he was right and chose a new course. She would’ve done the same regardless of who suggested it.
  • TFiOS: HOW DO YOU EVEN THINK THAT GUS SAVED HAZEL LIKE JFC THE ENTIRE PREMISE OF THE NOVEL IS THAT NO ONE CAN SAVE SOMEONE ELSE FROM DYING LIKE THAT AND YET YOU STILL THINK SOMEHOW THAT IT ENCOURAGES YOUNG GIRLS TO DEPEND ON MEN I CANNOT EVEN FATHOM HOW STUPID THAT IS JUST CHRIST PLEASE READ THE FUCKING BOOK

basically just actually read his books if you’re going to talk shit and don’t make shit up about them please go fuck yourself if you’re that stupid
