I'm sad you finished the Bokuroo week, you draw them so rarely now and I just miss my boys so much
anon please don’t try to guilt trip me into drawing more bokuro that’s kinda very rude I realize no one really reads tags so I’m gonna just say it here again - as I mentioned before, this period is really damn busy for me because for whatever reason all my fandoms and ships have decided to hold their ship weeks all together in the span of 20 days and I’m a sucker for this kind of events which means I wanna participate in everything and end up being unable to put actual effort in everything else for a while
THAT SAID how productive I am with a specific ship depends a lot on how much they’re appearing in the main story (currently in the bokuros’ case it’s a very pretty round zero), how responsive/respectful the fandom is when I do post about them (the bokuro fandom is amazing!!! Everyone around it that still keeps on trying to make it about other ships and turn my art into something it’s not supposed to be, not so much) and how much content for said ship I can consume through the fandom/how easily accessible it is (there’s very little content for bokuro in general and try and look for stuff in the tags it’s all about other ships/ot3s or ot4s/unrequited or past-relationship/tagged-but-only-as-brotp)
I really, really, really love that ship a whole damn lot still, trust me, but when I have so little inspiration coming from anything that could give it to me and at the same time I got other ships making me super creative, I’m naturally bound to produce less for it. I’m not abandoning it, I’m just asking you to be patient when my creativity doesn’t happen to be focused on them for a while
My overanalyzing of Just Friends and Love Sentence
Okay so I have spent a lot a lot a lot of time listening to the two Love Sentence songs in Star VS and thinking about the meanings for both of them. I need to consolidate these thoughts so I’m going to spout them here.
First of all, I initially thought how weird it is that Starco’s romantic relationship was developed through a platonic song and Tom and Marco had a very clear love ballad to further their friendship. But then I listened to the two songs nonstop and begin picking them apart.
It’s hard to not see Just Friends as a happy song because of the visuals we get with it. Smiling, dancing, lip syncing (I’ll get to that later) but really it’s a song of lost love. So let me explain my analysis. (I’ll be screenshotting the parts we see Star and Marco interacting so I’ll flip between the song’s two scenes)
It was no secret, the way that we feel. A love that’s so pure, a love that’s so real.
Now I’m going to take this as a description of platonic love, friendship love, obvious love that is not a secret and is “pure.” Aka, what Star and Marco have pretty much from episode one. They’re best friends, they say so all the time. They alternate lip-syncing these lines so I’ll take them as a shared message, especially with the “we.”
You showed me your world, and it felt like a sign.
Marco is Star’s guide, he’s the one who’s been the Aladdin to her Jasmine and has shown her the really great place that is Earth. Star lip-syncs this line in the shot we see so I’m taking it from her perspective. Meaning the “it felt like a sign” is what I’ll take to her thinking his actions were a sign of deeper feelings, and maybe they’ll get together someday, even if she thinks this subconsciously.
But you acted too slow and you ran out of tiiiiiiiime.
This is mouthed by Marco, so I’m taking it as him saying she moved forward on her romantic feelings too slowly, because he’s with Jackie now and he’s happy with Jackie.
And now we’ll be… just friends. (repeated a few times)
Sung together again, because that’s what it’s ended up as. They’re just friends.
The next part gets a little tricky from a perspective point because they rotate lines really fast it’s almost like a group sentiment again. Also the second half of the song is just like super vague.
I didn’t mean to hurt you
I’m going to take this as a reference to pretty much every time Star has accidentally got Marco in trouble, but specifically towards the time she spied on him and Jackie and her magic broke Jackie’s skateboard and sent them falling. Pretty much though, Star gets Marco into a lot of hurtful situations and this is probably an apology for just being there, as he’d be safer without her around.
You didn’t have a clue
If this is coming from Marco, it could be about her not knowing her own crush but is more likely about her ignorance towards what’s happening and how often all those incidents were just that, accidental.
So you went out and got busy, and found somebody new
Clearly, this is a reference to Marco and Jackie again. He has someone new now.
Then it repeats the just friends lines, and goes back into the second verse, making them same point that now they’ll be only friends. Then Star tells Marco to go be with Jackie and Too Little Too Late starts playing as she walks out. Star even blows up the sign on the line Marco sang during the duet with Tom. Too Little Too Late is very straightforward though.
We spiraled high on a gust of love, and I knew right from the start, nothing could tear us apart.
‘Til the day you broke my heart (and now it’s… too little, too late. That half of the line isn’t sung during Just Friends though.)
For Star, it’s just what it is. They’re just friends now and no matter what she does for Marco he’ll only see her as “the best friend a guy could ever have.” It’s all just too little, too late.
I made a choice. I wasn’t going to kill for them. So I ran.Right into you. And you looked at me like no one ever had. I was ashamed of what I was. But I’m done with the First Order. I’m never going back. Rey, come with me.
