yo!! I was just wondering;;; if you had any tips on drawing dudes!! I have a beefy boy of mine I've been dying to draw a full body of but I can't seem to get it right!! if you don't have any that's ok!
Well, step one is to have way too many pictures of just men, random men, sometimes half nude, too many to the point where you should be mildly concerned.
Seriously though, lots of references. Men have an incredible amount of variation, in terms of body type, so really search around for types you like, or that fit your character.
The main difference between an “average” body type, and more heavy set one is how solid it looks. This includes eliminating any sense of structural fragility, broadening it, and just messing around with how fat plays with the body.
And when thinking about muscular bodies, consider which areas are more defined than others, how much weight is on the body, etc. For a more stocky muscular type, keep it round.
So when I’m drawing any sort of guy, there’s a list of what I normally keep in mind. But definitely look around, see which body types strike your fancy more than others. Play around with it! And thanks, hope that helps! 💙
I JUST WENT ON THE RWBY WIKI TO LOOK UP A REF OF SUN BUT I STARTED LOSING MY SHIT BECAUSE OF THIS
I’M SOBBING ROOSTER TEETH IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO WORK IMAGINE BEING ASKED AS A CONCEPT ARTIST TO JUST DRAW AN EXISTING CHARACTER IN THE MOST BASIC, UNREMARKABLE CLOAK EVER AND GETTING PAID FOR IT, PROBABLY JUST AS MUCH AS DRAWING CONCEPT ART FOR COMPLEX CHARACTERS’ CLOTHES AND WEAPONS I AM WEEPING WITH LAUGHTER
Your art is so amazing ;-; I can't ask stuff on your art tumblr since I don't have an account, so I have to on here. Anyway, quick question: How do you draw and line up faces so nicely? Like make the eyes and hair look normal on the head. (Teach me how to phoenix ;-;)
Hello! Thank you so much! I’ll try my best to help you out ^^;; Altho these are not the “rules” (since there are no rules in art, just techniques) so aaa take these with a grain of salt.
Ok so for the faces, just use the basic circle + cross! it’s a useful guide to know where to line up the features and also the perspective of the face!
For the hair, use the circle as a guide to where the hair should be. but don’t strictly follow through the lines to draw on the hair.
Hair has volume so remember it always kinda floofs on the head. i mean it’s not directly connected on the skull right? so draw it a little farther away from your guide. It’s just a guide after all.
For Phoenix – You know, even I’M not sure how to draw him. But let me tell you how big of a help references are! (honestly i’ve been drawing him for 2 years now and i’m still so lost on how to draw him without a reference)
Can you now see my suffering.
I hope I’ve somehow helped you!! (I really can’t help with phoenix, because i’m clueless with how to draw this man myself CRIES but just use references then from there see how its easiest to draw him. you’ll eventually incorporate your style into the character)
Thank you so much for drawing trans people the way you do. Normalizing all trans bodies is something you excel at, and I don't know how to express how much it means to see bodies like mine on your artwork. Your blog is a place I don't feel like I need to physically transition to be loved, appreciated and respected. I've been following you for 6 years now and you've been nothing but sweet and compassionate. Keep it up, I'm really proud to see the things you're creating!!
horgh…ilu so much thank you for this message idek how to express what it means 2 me. im dead..
Hey, this isn't an ask sorry. But nevermind the jealous anons. And don't worry about bothering people. You art work is good, better than some I seen. I mean your better than me because you had the courage to draw and post it! I couldn't dream of doing that. I did like your darkiplier drawing and I'm not just saying it. Proportions are off, but that's normal. (My bro is an artist he helps me) but truly, the colors and the design are well done. You should be proud of your hard work.
As much as I welcome constructive criticism, at least make it true! Proportions are off? Hah. Well, if you look at the original, unedited photo of Mark and compare it to my drawing, you will see that it’s actually pretty much flawless. Nice try, though.
I’ll be waiting for your apology.
(Okay, but silliness aside, thank you for your kindness.I really am trying hard to learn, and proportions are a hard one for me, but they’re slowly getting better. Thanks for reaching out, and have a wonderful day.)
Ok, last thing I'm gonna ask for, and really totally understand if you can't or don't want to do it, but I'd love to see Jamie in your style (in his normal mailman outfit or in the drama zone outfit) (but I know you don't draw guys a lot, and maybe aren't comfortable with that?) Even if you don't want to, thanks for everything you do! 💕 You know I adore your art!
(>////<) plz You’re so kind to me! I don’t draw guys because they are anatomically a bit hard for me, but I’ve tried my best! Thank you so much!! And don’t worry, you have 5 days left to ask anything else, so… :D
What medium do you use to draw? Traditional, tablet, mouse, etc. of course this is if you don't mind me asking!
Uhm… mind if I turn this in a sorta… tutorial thingy? How I kinda like to draw? :”D
I had much problems with sketching digital up to now, so I prefer to draw with pencil on normal paper (the rubber cap on (1) is pretty handy). And that way I can doodle whenever I want and not have to wait until I get home.
I also lineart it along the way because that also works better with traditional for me. The pen in (2) is 0,1 cm and I have one for 0,3. (The one in (4) is just for fancy brush lines :”D ). (And the white gloss paint marker helps great for messed up parts. I love this pen.)
Next is scanning.
Then correcting the lineart and removing dirt.
Setting up the light and shadow values like this greatly helps removing lots of dirt and pencil lines that I forgot to edit. Then I smoothen the lines because over this they get a bit sharper.
And last I set it up in Photoshop for coloring and shading with mah graphic tablet.
Setting the white background to transparent is also pretty handy for colored lineart!
Hi I'm just a simple person who loves your art. It very cool and fun to look at! If you don't mind, I would like too see you draw a dragon. I don't push, but it would be fun too see my favourite creature in your art style! Beautiful ml BTW!🍀!
I don’t normally take too many requests but here you go!! Thank you so much! <3
